Im going to have a bit of storytime so Ill put general review first and those that want to stay for the rest, can.So I only went to one spot to dance so Im not the best Denver club judge but this one was great. Intimate vibe with nice amount of dance floor space and great DJs. I got a rum and sprite for 8 bucks (which as a new yorker was amazing)and a beer was the same price. They had water for free! I know that probably sounds like a strange acclimation but water can be $8 at a NYC party. The attendees were also chill, at least while inside. Now for storytime. It was my last night in Denver for a work trip and I wanted to do as much as possible that night. When I first arrived I literally just came from exploring the red rocks and hula hooping at the amphitheater stage and I wanted to keep up the dance vibes. I was crushed when the security guy told me they werent allowed no matter how skilled you claim to be. Luckily it was a sectional hoop so I disassembled it and got inside with the warning that they better not see me use it. Fair enough. I brought silk fans also 😉I get a drink and start to vibe. The dancefloor was the husk to the musics soul, you could feel the heartbeat as the music vibrated the floor. I go all out dancing, not caring whos watching because Im in another state, whos to judge? I have another drink and Im ready to bend some rules, I assemble the hoop. Im flowing to a couple of songs and Im thinking maybe they see I wont do damage and I can keep going. Unfortunately not, someone comes up (I believe the manager)and gives me the face so I stop. They said the fans were fine (very grateful for that) so I used those for a bit. I started vibing with this nice couple who were killin it on the dancefloor and before ya know it, it was time to leave.I usually call my Ubers before I head outside but I wanted to enjoy the fresh air. I walk across the street, looked at the night sky and thought wow a whole night out and not one creep. And then this guy comes over and compliments my dancing and said he was watching me all night. Could I come to his hotel for one more dance? I politely said no but thanks for the compliment. Then he asks again and again and now its becoming weird. 2 guys come out and yell compliments from across the street and I contemplate asking for their help, but I feel the threat is low so I yell a thank you back and continue my strange encounter. He tells me his Uber is 1 min away so I say Ill chat with him until it comes but Im not coming with him. When it finally arrives he tries to pull my arm and get me in the Uber with him. At this point Im pretty stern with my no and even told the Uber driver take him, I dont want to go with him and he wont leave me alone. To that the Uber guy replies can you just close my door? As were struggling outside it. Thanks Uber. The guy who wants me gets out and closes the door behind him and the driver whisks away leaving him with me. For some reason I still felt the threat level was low enough to not run back into the club like some damsel in distress. Theres other ways to ditch a dog. I realized this whole time I was a fool, Ill just book my Lyft. So I did and its a 5 mins away, lets hope I dont have to fight this dude beforehand. So I fake entertain him with more convo and a false promise of coming back with him. Then I go to take a pic of the outside of the building (for memories) and I ask if he could take my picture. As soon as the impromptu photoshoot is over, he passed my phone back and my Lyft smoothly pulls up next to me. You called your own Uber? He questioned sadly. Yes love cuz you werent getting the hint, no means no. But have a goodnight. Yes Im way too polite to creeps but I wasnt in the mood to get rowdy, I was having a good night. I opened the door to the Lyft and told him, make sure he doesnt follow us and we drove away.Security should be outside when a event is in the final hour imo.If you made it this far, thanks for reading and I hope you come and check this place out for yourselves!
I visited Denver a few years ago with my dad and our friend took us to a Thursday night show at this venue. I got to see one of my favorite Denver-based producers play a show and even got to meet him on the dance floor and shake his hand! This experience on top of the quality of service at the bar and quality of sound and vibes on the dance floor is one of the biggest factors in me deciding to move to Denver a few years later. The Black Box is truly a gem in the heart of Capitol Hill!
One of if not the best sound systems in Denver. Gets a lil hot in the main room but plenty of seating in the lounge and patio. Happy hour ($2 off) for first hour of every show is nice too. Minimal production but the amazing music/sound sets the vibe right
The Black Box is the best venue in Denver. One of the best sound systems around, friendly staff, and world-class talent. Highly recommended checking this place out if you’re in town.
The black box holds a special place in my heart. They’re always bringing great artists to Denver and giving smaller artists a chance to make a name. I’ve been going to the black box for years. They’re always finding new ways to step up their production and atmosphere at the box. The staff is always very polite and service is 100%. I will be coming back to this venue for many more years to come
Excellent Dance club with chill staff for a cozy club in the armpit of Denver. Parking could be a challenge for some and being on the 13th Drag strip could be a safety issue but thankfully there is a barrier in front of the club. The sound quality is good but to me is just too loud. Id love to see the dBs reduced in the main room especially or else I will be coming in with some noise cancelling headphones or just staying out in my car admiring the view.
They arent playing around with the free before 9 pm on Submission nights. We were coming back from city o city and were like 3 minutes past 9 and had to pay, which sucked. But its such a good venue and the show was great so 🫡 learned a lesson for the next time.
Hands down one of the best indoor venues around!! From the absolutely insane sound system to the culture and community within the blackbox is king!! They always strive to bring in new edm from all over the world to keep things fresh! Must hit if you’re in Denver!
The Black Box is without question the best club in Denver. The intimate underground vibes can’t really be found anywhere else. They constantly and consistently provide the best shows and DJ’s for their fans and consumers. The Black Box sets standards for inclusivity among other venues with their regular open deck nights and N/A beverage choices, as well as a dope smoking patio and I can’t forget about E Tuesdays every week with the creative village in The Lounge that features live painting and local artists and vendors! Sound over Hype!
Gotta get down here if you havent been. Sound is dope. Primarily drum & bass shows here, but dubstep as well. Truly a good vibe!
This place consistently has great EDM music. I like the aesthetic of Black Box as well. I would actually give Black Box 5 stars, but heres why Im giving it two. While this is a place that plays a lot of black music, there’s a lot happening here that causes me to feel uncomfortable as a black person. And hopefully this goes without saying, Im not speaking on behalf of black people. I’m just here to talk about my experience. One thing that makes me feel uncomfortable is that a lot of times the crowd isn’t that diverse. For example, one of the first jungle shows I ever went to here was incredible. But I noticed that no one was dancing. I thought that people must have hated the music, but at one point everyone cheered. They liked it, but they weren’t dancing to it. Despite EDM being considered dance music, I realized that Black Box wasn’t a place that was known for its dance scene. I believe that if Black Box did have more of a dance scene, there would naturally be more diversity and it would be a more welcoming space to people of color.Overall its a bit hard to walk up into a club where you hear black music sampled by white people for a white audience. It feels a bit exploitive. But I try to look past this because the music is such great quality. Despite this there are experiences here that make it harder and harder to look past. Almost every time Ive been here, Ive had a white person ask me, Are you so and so? And I have to explain to them that they must be thinking of a different black person.Recently I was minding my own business when another white person walked up to me and told me that I looked angry. In a venue where they largely play black music, I have so many uncomfortable experiences due to the lack of diversity and awareness. If Black Box fixed these issues I would give it 5 stars, but until then.
It’s a good place sound system is amazing but the chick that worked the ticket booth took my Kandi and told me “you can see when you leave if it’s there but I don’t know if it will be* if you understand how sentimental our rave Kandi and trinkets are you know that that ment a lot and for her to have that attitude twords me and my friend is not okay
The Black Box is my absolute favorite venue in Denver. Cleanest and most crisp sound from an indoor venue I’ve ever experienced! Will forever be grateful for the true dedication to the underground sound🫶
Unfriendly staff, the bartender served the wrong drink and then poured it out and made two new ones but then charged me for his own mistake, double priced me, and then poured me two drinks with ZERO alcohol in them. The Black Box is not a friendly or chill place, pick somewhere else if you planned on enjoying your night
One of the best music venues ever. The sound system is phenomenal, and the vibes are always on point. I am forever grateful to The Black Box! Their loyalty card is an amazing deal too.
The detail to absolute sonic clarity for a show is TREMENDOUS. Acoustically treated from the walls to your balls (or ovaries)! Good stuff
The Black Box is simply the best club in Capitol Hill. Its no frills, dark, loud, great staff, and the crowd is always great. The music selection tends more towards dub, Dnb, future bass, and occasionally some house. Really chill patio area out back! Get there early for bigger shows as they can hit capacity.
I witnessed a female being kicked out, she was obviously messed up. Her phone was dead. They wouldn’t allow her to contact her friends and pushed her out onto the street. She sat out there with no help in distress obviously messed up. There’s no reason someone couldn’t have went to found her s/o. People die from this. You can’t kick a half conscious young female out on the street and not allow her to find her friends. Riley strain’s body was found this morning from this exact scenario. Please do better. I’ll never be back.
As someone who enjoys smaller shows, this venue is amazing. Its a comfortable venue without too many bells and whistles that has a nice atmosphere and is well thought-out. The music sounds incredible on their funktion-one sound system. I tend to feel overwhelmed when there is an excess of really bright lights at a show, but that is not a problem here. Lights are mellow and the music is played at an appropriate volume (bring earplugs though.) Seriously, come check this spot out.PS: I dont drink alcohol and I was very excited to find out that they have a long list of non-alcoholic options, from sodas, to juices. So thank you for doing that. I feel seen.
I had no idea what and where this place was until tonight and now its probably one of my favorite places in Denver. The crowd was great, friendly, and liked to dance. The music was deep dark and heavy on the bass, just the perfect. The sound system was top notch and I was amazed how rich the bass was without having to scream to talk. Only Beta can give this a run for the best sound. It just look like a little brick building but is much bigger on the inside than the outside.
Hands down the best venue in Denver, great vibes, great people and even better music!
Metal barstools are the only seating for General Admission. There is free drinking water.
This is by far my favorite venue I’ve been to in Denver. The staff is incredible and friendly, from FOH/security to bar and beyond. The system is legendary and I knew about it before I even moved here from the east coast. The fact that blackbox not only brings in international artists that sell the venue out but still also have free nights in the lounge and even $10 shows on Tuesdays is a total win. This is a spot for the audiophile like myself (where you can immerse yourself in not only reputable artists but support locals as well) or a chill spot to spend a fun night out with friends without getting too expensive. Nicole has and continues to do an fantastic job. I cannot recommend this place enough.
Great sound system and vibes here. One of the best clubs in Denver.
The staff is great. But the crowd has too much negative energy. And for Petes sake get separate mens and womens bathrooms...so awkward.
The club was loud and bassy but the patrons were pretty boring. The staff were kind and welcoming.
The Ryan Celsius show last night was crazy! The sound system is great, staff are super nice- the only reason I cant give the venue 5 stars is that they used to be friendly to flow toys (I spin staff) but they no longer allow them. I understand safety but its kind of unreasonable, I personally dont spin if Im within 7 feet of humans or walls, safety first, you know? Maybe have some sort of flow sign up form. Other than that, great venue, probably the best in Denver right now
Great environment. Cool art. Lovely patio. Friendly & efficient staff.
This is the best venue in Denver. Its an institution that holds down the underground feel that makes you feel like youre in an intimate spot somewhere in Bushwick. The sound system, people, and the overall vibe are all great. I only wish they played more variety of music genres. But even if youre not into dubs like me, you have to visit at least once when in Denver. Keep up the amazing work.
The black box is a club like no other. Showcasing the absolute best of bass, from newcomers making a statement or legends doing what they do best, the black box is the only place in Colorado you will be able live the experience proper. Their basscouch Soundsystem is unmatched. The staff and security are always welcoming and super helpful. cant say enough positive things about this staple of Denver.
This is my favorite venue in denver!! they book amazing artists (local + global), have a pumpinnnn sound system, two rooms + a smoking patio. staff is great, the atmosphere is great, and the vibes are always on point. come dance at the home for the underground 👾
Went for a show sound system thumped a little crowded but hey thats why you get there earlg
The home of the underground never ceases to disappoint. The lounge is a great place to hang and have a drink with very reasonable prices, places to sit, pool and usually free or cheap cover. The main stage has the best sound system Ive ever heard, the best setup in Colorado, and become a literal spiritual experience for me. Dont worry if you havent heard of the DJ playing tonight, just go and be ready to get lost in sound.
The Black Box is the only venue for dnb and edm in Denver!
This place is so cool! From out of town and found this gem 💎
This place is special, the first time I set foot In this venue I knew I would for years to come. Heading to Makoto tonight, insane to think thats really happening.
Nice spot even on a Tuesday night! Saw some cool underground Dub step acts. Nice outdoor area to kick it in. Bartenders were very nice and she was even easier on the eyes 💋
If you like dubstep, this is the place. The sound system is amazing, the energy and vibes are so good. The floor literally vibrates so you feel the music not just listen to it. Ive only been there a couple of times, but the experience is great.
Best sounding venue in Denver!! Impeccable staff and vibezzz! They book the underground artists we love as well as many international acts from a wide variety of genres. Definitely a staple of the Denver experience.
Dont go to a show thats gonna sell out if you hate being squeezed. Folks dont really dance like they should. This venue has the best sound system in the time zone if not country as far as actual venues go. Still rating 5 stars bc its not the venues job to make attendees enjoyable.
Great sound system and vibe. Excellent underground scene
First time coming to a show at this venue. I was super excited until i Got kicked out for using the bathroom with my friend because all the other stalls were occupied. The “manager” was intoxicated to the point was slurring her words was yelling at security to kick me out, then proceeded to block the door to the club area when i let her know that I needed to grab my belongings from the other person that i was with, luckily i had my phone on me. I get that they have a rule about multiple people in the stalls but she could have been more professional.
Fav club in Denver! The sound and artist selection is top-notch. Everyone is friendly (including staff) and plenty of fun dancers. Great AV and thoughtful touches like fans/water. Floor vibrates. Free concerts in the lounge and pool.
For being the first time, they do have a really good sound system but the service is horrible.
Best bass music venue in Denver, hands down. Consistently killer lineups, legendary sound system, intimate vibes in a well treated and dimly lit room.
Dang, I’m impressed! My first time at the Black Box and my jaw dropped to the floor with how perfectly balanced this sound system is. If you’re into music with a proper amount of bass and enjoy getting your internal organs vibrated, this is the place! Very underground vibe, so if you’re an old school raver like me, you’ll feel right at home. The staff is extremely nice, including the security folks. I wish I can come back and see a techno show on this sound system one day. Please send my greetings to whoever does the visuals, really cool stuff! Highly recommended!
This place has solidified itself as the ONLY place to be for true bass music. Bringing up and coming artists as well as well established artists you will see at bigger venues but get the intimacy of a small show!
I love that The Black Box always has a save environment for me and others around! The staff/security are always so helpful when anything is happening and needing to take action. I go out alone a lot, and there are some weird situations I have ran into. it’s nice to know there are people who care and look out for the community!
Fun venue with a good sound system. The sound had good bass and the treble want turned up to high. There is metered street parking and a medium size lot next to the venue that I think cost 12 bucks for the night. The staff was friendly and drinks were reasonably priced. Ill definitely be back. I hope they have more Phonk shows!
Hmm I paid $5 tickets not knowing that all the action is in the main room. In the club, wasnt informed if we could pay the difference and go to the main room because I would have. I was just told, if you dont have a wristband then go to the tier. I always dance to electronic music but didnt because in the side tier room it was like 20 men , and 3 women, 2 women left & I felt like Magic Johanna if I were to dance in the tier, but didnt want to make my date jealous. Ill come back and dance the main room next time since my date broke up with me anyways. Lame. Also the music was low energy all the way till 1:30am when we gave up & left due to the same repetitive beats. Not at all what I was expecting after reading raving reviews of others. Ill update with two more starts, making it five, after checking out main stage next time. Hire me as a tier DJ. I could do better. For realz!! Long drive from another city for this?! Trust me I know electronic music from all over the world. I think there was just a lack of communication/ understanding but I was afraid to speak up at the time not wanting to get kicked out.
Denver is too spoiled with the Black Box, the underground thrives here because of them. Also if Ternion Sound makes a vip for a venue, you know their a big deal…
Horrible experience everytime without fail. Even when I like the artist the energy of the venue has gone completely downhill. This place is dark dark dark. Will never be going back here ever again. Its a succubus venue. Dont go here unless you want your life force drained or have a low enough vibration to tolerate it 🤷♂️ Good luck 👍
This is one of the best spots for electronic music in Denver. The staff is friendly and the talent that comes through is spectacular. Come have a great time!
Best venue in Denver with the best staff. Hands down.
This is one of my favorite venues in the whole country, and its certainly the best in Denver. Loud clean sound which was just recently upgraded, underground bass music, fun and respectful vibe, enough space to dance, reasonably priced drinks. Thanks for doing so many things right that most clubs get wrong, Black Box!
While vacationing in Colorado I made it to the open decks which take place every Wednesday. I didnt get to experience the main room but got to play with the sound system in the lounge and it was incredible. Everybody I met there, both attendants and staff were all extremely friendly and supportive of all of the artists who were there. I cant wait to attend a big event here in the future!!!
Came here for The Get Down and was impressed with the venue and staff. They had plenty of N/A options and drinks were reasonably priced. Lucked out with free parking two blocks away. Bartender was super helpful and friendly. Looking forward to come here again and enjoying great House music.
Legit spot. Securitys not too overwhelming but are serious. Sweet art. Never been when I was super busy so its a chill club to hang out and dance
This is hands down my favorite venue in denver, colorado. such an intimate place, all the staff is so amazing, the sound is always proper and there are always diverse artists playing here. i go all the time because it’s one of my favorite places to go!!!
I came to watch Dillon Cooper play an after party for Hendrix from the X-Games. It was dope!
The Black Box is Denver’s best underground electronic music venue by far!!! The atmosphere is always great and they have an amazing sound system!!!
Best venue Ive spent any significant time at by FAR. Staff is super helpful and dont put up with bad actors in the venue. Sound system is above any other in town as well!!
The Black Box is the place to be always! Top notch sound! Amazing vibes from the crowd to the staff! And the best underground music 🎶 venue anyone could ask for seriously! Love it!
Great sound system and great ambiance for some filthy drum and bass. This is the place to be for underground electronic music in Denver.
Best venue in Denver (if not the entire country)! Top notch sound system, consistently killer lineups, beautiful art throughout, & the best patio in town. Really couldn’t like this place more.
First time here since its been renamed and no question, the sound system is great. Fun bars (both rooms) nice vibe, good crowd - so for now, 5 stars. They seem to offer music thats on the edge, so even if I dont like it all, they get props and stars from me. Glad to know its here in town!
Very easy going place with casual dress code, small bars in both rooms, fun DJs and super nice security. Youll find a bunch of people that like to enjoy the place strictly for the best sounding music.
The black box was a great experience! We went there for a rave they were hosting and wow, their sound system is top tier. The drinks were great and the bartenders were all nice.
Just went for the first time. Sound at the main room is excellent, the best I’ve experienced in Denver so far. Great acoustics and tuned really pro. Part of the staff could be more polite (a bartender in particular) and discrete (security).
Ive always had nothing but positive experiences here. The music attracts some of the most interesting yet extremely respectful individuals.I can go from raging on the dance floor to standing completely grounded and meditating and no one disrupts your person or space.Truely Blessed to visit this venue.
Awesome new club in the Denver scene. Big yet very intimate space. Lounge has a full bar, DJ stage, lighting effects and a game area. The main room has a full bar and youre able to see the main stage from anywhere in the room. The sound system in just perfect for the space. They also have a cozy comfortable back patio. Will definitely be back.
This is the best night club in Denver to dance your ass off at. If you want to hear the best drum and bass, heavy bass, and dub music this is the place.First the sound system is quite awesome. Not to mention their ambiance and drink selection coughs Princess Yum Yum coughs are on point! Bonus points it is owned by a bad ass lady who knows good music.
Great local venue. Lot of solid acts come through here. Big ups Sub.mission
This is by far my most favorite venue! Besides the great music acts, the black box offers a chill and safe environment . The security guards are cool but know how to do their job and are not mean and condescending like they are at most other venues. The water is cheap and there is a water fountain to refill. Even when the show is sold out, there is still sufficient space for you to dance in. Their setup is getting better and better with more visuals and lasers being added. The patio area is also a cool spot and I love that theres a lounge incase you want to step away from the large crowd. My only complaint is that theres no coat check and they dont allow gloving.
I always have a great night from start to finish. Security is nice and efficient. The bartenders make a nice drink, not paying for all soda which is awesome. The soundsystem is amazing and the artists they bring in are even better !!! love this venue.
My personal favorite drum&bass / jungle / dub /electronic venue in the area. Sound is absolutely top notch in both rooms (big respect to the soundguys). Recon & Sub.mission crews rep Denver to the fullest with their choice of headliners.
When no one is dancing , the DJ sucks. Anybody running this place get that?
First time here, and in Denver, venue was very comfortable, huge selection of drinks and the sound was phenomenal. Hopefully gonna be back for more shows!
Great venue! Gets a little crowded but theres still plenty of room to dance. There is a patio out back for smoking which is very convenient, it is open until 1:30. Overall if you get a chance to see a show here, dont miss your opportunity!
Sickest intimate venue for bass music in Denver. Excellent sound, dark room, and a focus on the music thats above anywhere else. Highly recommend VIP, the booth is elevated and you have your own cocktail waitress for some shows!!
This place is beyond magical! Best sound system in Denver and an acclaimed international bass music venue destination. They debut artists from around the globe and share quality love for sound, not hype 👌💕🔊✨.
Went to see Scotty (ghost) last night for reconDNB
I love me some Drum N Bass. They oblige.
Great vibes, amazing sound, plenty of space to dance, cool lighting, cozy bar right inside the venue. sometimes the AC blasts a little too intense so layer up. still one of my favorite places for deep dancey bass music in denver.
Really cool spot for an EDM show. Great sound system with good bass. Neat artwork all over the place. And a clean womens restroom!
This is the HQ/family dance spot for bass music in the United States. Unreal sound, unreal booking, and you can meet some gems of human beings by just hanging out there. Tell all your friends but tell them to not tell anybody else.
Out of all the music venues Ive been to I dont think any represent the sound system culture better than The Black Box. Often showcasing local, underrated and upcoming artists, The Box is paving the way in the electronic and bass music industry. The owner, Nicole, is one of the most educated and involved people in this space and this venue is a like a trophy awarded for doing music right for so long in Denver.
Hands down the best venue in North America. Has the best set up for dubstep/Edm Music. BASS THAT SHAKES YOUR BODY FROM HEAD TO TOE. from the staff, security, attendees and Djs, the place has family Vibes. Its own community where u can be free to express yourself, and dance safely. Big shout out to the black box !
The BEST club to experience electronic music in the state! Amazing staff and sound. Always bringing in world wide talent throughout the year especially in dubstep and drum & bass. Visit here if you like that stuff :)
First time in Denver, came for the first night of Caspa. Absolutely fantastic experience. The sound was better than described or expected. It was a bit crowded, obviously for a headliner, but other than that, great. Will definitely return the next time I’m in Denver
By far one of the nicest sound systems in a venue open to the public in the United States, capable of putting out deep bass tones crisper and more full than anywhere else Ive ever been. Truly a standard that other electronic venues should be judged against.
This is easily the best venue in Denver. Staff is respectable and all around great people. The music is always amazing and it has the best sound system in the city!
This is my new favorite indoor venue! The Funktion One sound system is just mind bending, the space to dance is comfortable with A/C on full blast, the back patio is a cozy place to rest your feet from dancing and the staff are really great as well!
The sound is great and the atmosphere is nice.. but they cut my boyfriend off and did not give him his card. We ended up having to call the Denver police non emergency line just to get his card back. The bartender was not cooperative and it took us awhile to get his card so we can leave. The security was treating him like drunk trash that needed kicked out when in reality him and i were just trying to have a good night out.
Kickass venue. Some of the rules, like no/re-entry, will change from week to week I guess. The experience was great, love the two beat spots, pool lounge, and outside section. Masks are recommended which is hilarious because this translates to where one at the front door, then lose the dang thing
Great place for EDM, good vibes and option of 2 rooms. Bonus for notes in bathrooms encouraging people to let staff know if anyone makes them uncomfortable and it will be dealt with discreetly. Safe place to go out solo as a female. My only suggestion would be to make patio accessible from both sides of the club.
The best venue in Denver for underground electronic music. With two rooms available, sometimes there are two events on the same night. Oftentimes the smaller lounge room is free, meaning that one can wander between the two stages if necessary. Ticket prices are cheap and the artists that are brought through are top notch. Oftentimes, visual artists set up in the lounge area to sell their pieces, which only adds to the creative environment. There is a smoking friendly back patio available as well.
I love having 2 stages to switch vibes between. But nothing beats the main room sound system!!!! Truly a wonderful place for a great night of music!!!
Deepest darkest beats and a venue to match 🔥🔥 Ive been frequenting the Black Box since they opened and its hands down my favorite place in Denver. Always super clean, great deals on drinks, and the sound system is ON. POINT. Funktions are an experience and definitely worth checking out. They always have the best music, too- even if I dont know the artist booked, they never dissapoint. ⬛ Sub.mission thank you for doing what you do 😁
Came from out of town and checked this place out. It IS a cool spot and has a great system (bass is good) - not as big as I thought it would be though.
By far one of the best venues in colorado! Top notch sound system, awesome shows that are very proper, and fairly priced drinks. Nicole at the black box knows how to host a proper venue, hats off to you Nicole and a successful first year at the box! Cant wait for more :)
The vibes are immaculate, such a good place to experience sound system culture, and the security here make it super safe and fun!
Amazing venue with friendly staff. We love the options between the main venue area, lounge, and patio. The decor on the patio is so fun.
One of the best club there is! Came from Sweden and had the honour to attend one night and play. Great calibrated sound system and enough space for the crowd to breath. Lovely people who runs it as well.
So many good events are at this venue because of the good vibes everyone has! I love coming here because I know its a good venue, good people and no fights. The music that gets played here is by far the best in Denver! I love the Black Box!
This place is just the best, best sound for bass music, great drink selection and the crowd this place attracts are just great people, Im sure the people that run/manage this place are fantastic as well
Best venue in Denver, bring artists from all over the world you would never see booked anywhere else in the state, on the nicest sound system this side of the Mississippi. Sub.mission, who runs the venue, is one of the strongest labels in Denver, curating to a niche group of people who know what they like.
Best venue for Electronic Music in Denver! Place has one of the best sound systems in the big room. Chill.people, no Bros, cheap drinks. Great staff
Staffs great. cheap tickets get night
I had the opportunity to see Big Chocolate recently, and I must say that it was quite an amazing treat. yes, pun intended. The sound here was great and the concert was so beautifully personal because there was such a small yet incredibly engaged audience! Will definitely return to The Black Box!
Went on a Friday night to the Hip Hop side. Security was rude. We wanted to peak inside to see if it was worth our time. He said, No, we dont do that. Reluctantly, we paid the cover to get in, and regretted it immediately. The place was empty and stayed that way until at least 1 am when we left. DJ was okay, he replayed songs though.
Amazing vibes. great music. quality sound. beautiful space. everything about it is 10/10. to top off i have never felt more safe at a music venue. such a special spot!!!
My favorite venue in Denver! Always has the best underground artists coming through, the greatest sound system, and the most fire vibes!!
This is a really cool venue. Two sided. It would get a 5-star review if it wasnt for the staff constantly telling you not to sit on the concrete flower boxes. They are massive albatrosses that stick out from the venue but were built without using proper concrete? So they wont let you sit there and theyre pretty shity about it. And the space is in dire dire need of seating in the back. So ruining all that seating seems like a poor decision. As soon as you can sit there Ill give you 5 stars.
Saw Kirby Bright play at the Back Box. That place is quite nice inside and two different sides for different vibe. There is a large wrap around patio and this place has a great sound system.
Usually there is a side of the club with local talent open for free. Smoking session outside with a little food window that is open most bigger nights. There’s a pool table (maybe two) and vendors usually around on both sides. No reentry. Sound quality here is awesome.
Great sound and two stages with two bars. Enough room to breathe and consistent drink deals. Bass is heavy and clean. Does not destroy your hearing either.
Best venue hands down in Denver. Vibes are always off the charts due to people being very educated in the specific artists and experience they are trying to bring. We all about Sound not hype.
I loved this venue until Halloween 2018 when the venue focused on capacity over quality. Halloween 2017 was unforgettable . I guess they sold out this year. I paid to get into a show 2 months before so I should get in and not wait 45 minutes after i needed to go to the bathroom. The sound system is spot on and no lies there but money and getting people to pay seemed like higher priority than quality. Lots of rolled out ravers who seem to like experience over music, the point the black box. The filmore or ogenden would be a fsr better choice.
The best night club in Denver for sound quality and presence!!!
Great venue to see Cutting Edge electronic Acts. The atmosphere of the place perfectly fits with the music being presented. Artistic, but not pretentious at all. The bartenders are just friendly enough which is a plus.
Bassheads rejoice. Cheap tickets, affordable drinks and a thunderous sound system in an intimate setting. This place is a symbol of denver electronic music culture and it’s always a treat.
First time at this spot. Definitely enjoyed the show Ziore slammed! Cant wait to see his next show!! Bartender was cool with a few chill spots to lounge.
Great rooms but bar staff sucks. Had some extremely shady stuff go down with my debit card by bar staff. Now I have to spend the next few days clearing it up with my bank. Its unfortunate because of all of the good reviews Ive read. Maybe they dont like the Rap crowd? Parking situation is really bad.
Great venue, stands on its own merits, no hype needed. Sound is top notch with emphasis on quality bass. Staff is friendly and attentive, good selection of of local brews. I highly recommend visiting.
Nice place to perform for underground artists and rappers! I performed at a recent event, called the showcase tour! It was a rap competition concert and I thought it was a great experience for me. I highly recommend this place for anyone thats interested in performing!
Well run electronic music club. There are two stages, both of which are pretty small. It is a very intimate experience. Parking around the venue can be a bit of a hassle. Pay attention to all of the street signs to avoid getting ticketed or towed. Better yet, take a Lyft and party responsibly.
The best independent venue in denver and my fav overall, hands down
Incredibly accommodating, friendly staff, great bookings, my favorite local venue that absolutely respects the sound, artists and community
AMAZING! Sound system is phenomenal! Loud with a perfect sound. Mungos Hi Fi was a good show here, squad had a great night!
Nice size, very diverse crowd, beverages were decent price. Had a good time. It was my first concert! If I was invited to this venue again, I would definitely go again.
I love this little spot Ive been going to venues all over Denver for a long time and Im so happy that there is a little spot with great Dance Music on any given evening and am super happy they made it through the storm.
I waited 8 years to see Spoonbill live. It could have happened in a school cafeteria and I still would have loved it, but this was a cool place. The intimate size, amazing sound, and well priced drinks were an added bonus.
My home away from home! Its always the best experience! My favorite place in Denver w some amazing sound
The Black Box is like home. Have never found a more accepting community of people that will make you feel like you are family. Truly a place where you can be yourself and get down to some of the best electronic music in the world.
The door gal was a bit unwelcoming and drinks were meh. We were early for the night but didnt stay long because signs stated no mingling. Not sure why we paid a $15 cover to sit at a table and pay for overpriced courtesy sized drinks.
The spot to be in Denver! The Black Box constantly has big events going on with one of the best sound systems in the country! Definitely a must to check out.
Great venue. Nicole is the best bartender this side of the Delaware Water Gap.
Decent location, friendly workers but 3 stars because they definitely need someone to keep an eye on the ladies room; I went to each one which were located on different sides of the building and they both were disgusting. Also, the DJ is not that great.
Always a great time, everytime! The Black Box is, in my opinion, now the undisputed king for underground-like experiences in a decent setting. If youre a fan of music that ventures into the Bass Music genres...look no further! Not only do they bring some of the absolute best talent in this niche-- the local Deejays are the best of the best, period, hands down (meaning that they are actually the most talented, put the most effort into their sets, and are truly doing more than pushing a few buttons). Oh...and the Bass Couch! Yep-- bottle service while lounging on a comfy couch where you can more-than-adequately (for 99.7% of folks) FEEL that bass? Indeed. Its at The Black Box! Now its time to look at the coming lineup and pick a day! Boom!
Dope 350 cap venue! Has some old school function ones for great sound and a cool atmosphere. The squad had a good time the other night and will probably go back on night this weekend. Check the spot out!
Incredible basscouch soundsystem, and best talent booked CONSISTENTLY! always an excellent experience, great staff and amazing crew. black box is my #1 music venue for electronic Music! BIG UP SUBMISSION!
The sound here is absolutely fantastic. I have not heard a better sound system anywhere in Denver.
Feels like home. Plus the incorporation of studio lessons for producing, sound design. Djing and vjing... like wow this place goes above and beyond other Denver venues in this way by giving back and trying to engage the Denver electronic scene into creativity
Love the new mocktail menu!
Good sound, 2 stages and 2 bars. Only accept cash for the tickets, bar takes card and cash. There is a outside padio to smoke, neat place. No free parking close but thats downtown for yea.
This venue has 2 sides (dual room). One side is a bar with a small stage, dance floor and pool table. The other is a full stage with Basscouch sound system, dancefloor and bar. The staff is exceptional and the venue has a laid back vibe to it while hosting a wide range of artistic and music genres.
Awesome little spot. Great acoustics as well as a lounge area away from the sound. Cant wait to go back
With an underground style venue like this bringing amazing DJs and producers you dont need to go anywhere else. The vibes are super friendly and Ive never had a bad night in my 15+ visits.
Incredible sound system, I got to see Caspa here and it was absolutely brilliant! Love this venue and they bring in some awesome talent, lucky to have this place in Denver 🥳
Not many words to explain how dope of a venue the Black Box is, you definitely have to experience it for yourself. 👾💜 A Denver gem, especially for anyone who is serious about sound system culture !
Theyve done such a good job with this space. Super cool vibes, fantastic line ups and the sound system on the main floor is straight up banging.Clearly run by people who love music.
The best play most innovative that I have seen in years. The interactive quality was unsurpassed... the fourth wall ceiling and floor were magically blown away as unsuspecting audiences joined in the performance
Amazing venue for some original dubstep! Staff is very professional, kind, and helpful!
Friendly staff, great teas. Lots of tasty options. Stays open until 12 so great place to chill after dinner, cool little lounge area to hang out in.
The best bass and electronic music venue in Denver. The best in drum and bass, dubstep, trap, techno, underground hip-hop and more. Fo realz!
This is the Go To spot for bass music in the Mile High City, with two rooms of wonderfully crafted sound systems, skilled VJs, and plenty of acoustic treatment, come enjoy one of the finest sounding rooms in town.
Bought tickets for an event my son was to perform in on 10/6/21 and was told you have to be vaccinated to enter. This information was not provided on the flyer, the tickets, OR the venues website. Im vaccinated, but we have friends and family who purchased tickets and now they cant attend. Horrible advertising and sharing of pertinent information!!
Some of the best sound around, drink specials on Tuesdays, awesome patio, Capri sun at the bar :) clientele generally great people, staff is quick to respond to those who arent
Best venue in Denver! The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and the music is bumping every night! Can’t wait to go back
Its a small venue that often gets sold out and packed for shows on the weekends but its got the greatest sound system with the deepest bass you can find in Colorado.
Super cool spot. Great music. Unique and cool decor every corner from the moment you walk in. Overall rating... dope!
Best venue in denver for real dubstep, has very heavy subs, and great artists who play, plus every Tuesday is free if you get there before 10 and are at least 21. And Tuesdays have really good well known artists play usually
This place is ok...cant stand the desgusting people who come here though. The hippies over run the place and when they dance next to you they overwhelm your sense of smell with a mix of palo santo wood/beer breath/body odor. Also be prepared to have nasty hippie sweat whipped at you from their sweat drenched hair as they head bang to literally every song. Other than that there is really good music at times. Just wish those idiots would go sell their DMT elsewhere so people could listen to good music in peace. Haha sorry just being honest😂😂😂
One of the best experiences you can have in Denver....Met some of my closest friends and saw some of the most amazing performances to date...lifelong fanboy🙏🙏
Incredible sound system and world class bookings in an intimate setting. Truly the gem of the Denver dubstep scene.
Decent place for events. The one I attended really didnt have much space to sit. It was definitely an open club with a dance floor and threat was it. All the seating was out doors in the back which was limited
If you love bass, then the black box is your home away from home. They always have top notch acts, the venue fits the vibes they search for, and the sound system is unreal
Black Box is my favorite venue in Denver. Ive been going to sub.mission shows since 2008? The owner Nicole curates this venue like none other. Weve enjoyed spending multiple NYEs and multiple multiple multiple shows at the Black Box. Want to specifically give a shout out to Sally, the lovely VIP host, who takes great care of me and my fiancee and any other friends we make on the Basscouch!
The lounge area is a small room of awkwardness. I havent been to the main room, yet as it is a little expensive. If one were to go, Id save up for the whole building as the lounge area has music that gets outblasted by the neighboring room and does not have much to offer. There are better clubs nearby if one is looking for something more formal. The black box is mainly emo / punk teenagers and young adults. My friend told me to visit it, but I was certainly out of place. Not my cup of tea, but if one were to go, wear party clothes that are not formal.
Besides the no gloves policy (which is silly...) the venue is fantastic. Very intimate setting and great sound system.
Cool vibe fun. although the heavyset security lady was EXTREMELY RUDE! Im holding open the door for my disabled husband after I entered and she screams close the door! I try to explain what Im doing and she has the audacity to holler at me again. We will not be back. What a shame.
Best sound in Denver! You will feel it and hear it! Love this club, all the pretty girls (and boys) come here to shake their butts on Fridays to that Whomp Truck sound! 🎵🎶🎧
$15 for the lounge and I left early cuz there was like no one there and the box office said the lounge was almost sold out. Maybe thats what they were going for for the atmosphere? but I was looking to dance.
Used to like this place a lot, but last time I went there they were extremely rude. They have a NO RE-ENTRY sign on (insert emphasis) one side of the door. If you walk out and the door is already being held open for you, or your with a crowd of people, it is very easy to miss. They expect you to see through the door and read the sign on the other side if you are walking back in. Upon entry, they immediately suspect you read that sign through the door and accuse you of being some re-entry criminal mastermind with grimaces and anger. Instead of realizing their anger is from having to retell people the same thing over and over all night and just making a bigger sign or being sure to inform people on their way out, they just smolderingly vent at their customers when they walk back in. Furthermore, this re-entry rule is new, so veterans will be completely oblivious.
Super cool place. Space felt large and open. Sound was good, a little quiet. The decor was really interesting with lots of leds and projection mapping. I would visit again!
