We liked the atmosphere and piano on the ground floor even though the layout is a bit cramped. Very hard to get a drink. The bartender was friendly enough, but they definitely needed more than one bartender on the 4th of July.
Every city needs a gay piano bar. Philly has Tavern and I love it. The service isn’t always great but it’s always a lovely time.
Honestly the vibe wasn’t even all that bad . What disturbed me the most was how the bartender by the name of Chuck continued to serve all white customer around me as I waited patiently for him to acknowledge me . It seemed race related but anyways .Thank God for Tommy! The bartender that was very impartial and did his job well. If it wasn’t for him I probably would’ve have left .
Been to this bar a couple of times when visiting Philly. Really enjoyed each visit. If you enjoy a piano bar, this one is really nice. The drinks are good, and when I was there, the piano was wonderful. Terrific piano player, who had a lot of music books for people to choose from if they wanted to exercise their pipes. The player was great, and had a terrific voice and style. A very good song stylist.Drinks are good, and the bartenders attentive and quick. There is a restaurant downstairs (reachable from separate entrance from the street) that was excellent! And if youre lucky enough to have John as your waiter, its even nicer. Id highly recommend the Lo Mein dish!Overall, a very fun place to spend an evening!
Went to The Tavern with friends because my friends kept telling me how great this place was and they had a guy playing the piano that allows you to sing. We arrived around 11:00 ish and went straight the the corner where the piano and seating areas was. The place was PACKED and the atmosphere was a great vibe. Everyone was singing and having a great time singing along. I instantly felt like I found my tribe. As my friends kept telling me to go up and sing I waited until I felt comfortable enough to go and request a song. I stood along the wall by the piano waiting to come up and sing. As a singer who has worked on a cruise ship for 10 years I totally understand how hectic guests and patrons can be and I never want to be that person. I believe a young guy by the name of Malik came up to sing and then motioned me to come up to the stage. The gentleman on the piano made an announcement on stage etiquette and to not just come on stage, as I understood his concern the delivery was a bit harsh. I go up to request my song and he totally bypassed me as in looked over me to get the request of the young lady behind me, I politely said I think I was next, he said in the most snobbish way Well she has been waiting a while and Im going to let her go. Instantly my friend asked him how could she cut in front of me and I have been waiting as well, he then said Sweetheart everyone has been waiting you can choose to sing or not its totally up to you, and proceeds to start playing. I felt disregarded in that moment and no longer wanted tot be there. My friends felt embarrassed as they kept raving about this place. Im sure this place is nice but the guy that was singing was not very pleasant. I know it can be difficult trying to please everyone but to blatantly be rude and dismiss someone for someone else is not okay. After the young lady finished singing, he then took a hour break, he didnt come over to apologize or event try to explain his reasoning. I hope someone from management sees this and discuss this with him because you could potentially lose your crowd by him not being a nice person. As a fellow gentlemen I tipped him anyway for his efforts and out of respect for the craft. I will not be coming back to that establishment simply because of the experience I had with him. Very disappointing.
I went here 2 Saturdays ago. Not the worst, but definitely not the best bar gay bar Ive been too. I got there around 12am. Had to stand in line for a bit. When you go in, they make you go to the right up a steep, narrow set of stairs (beware if you are claustrophobic) that leads into a bar & dancefloor area. It was SUPER packed. It was uncomfortably packed, like fire-hazard packed. I literally had to push people out my way to get to the through the crowd.I eventually made my way out that room and went downstairs. Theres a piano bar. It was crowded but not uncomfortably like upstairs. The vibe in the piano room was okay. I didnt love the performers though. They werent bad, they just werent my cup of tea. I had one drink and left.TLDR: Dancefloor area gets uncomfortably packed. The piano bar section is cute, but the performers can be kinda boring. Not sure Ill go back.
Visiting Philly and went here with some friends. I’ve never been treated so poorly by staff at a bar. The piano host was extremely rude to my friends and made comments that are not appropriate for any business. It was truly a night to celebrate and the staff dampened the experience unfortunately. Won’t be returning. Also don’t sing unless you like being hackled and made fun of.
Bartender refused me water after buying one drink. He said I have to spend money at the bar, I cant just come in for water. Even though I had the drink in my hand I just just bought. Extremely rude, and eventually bargained to spend $15 on water, which is ridiculous. I understand bartenders can get a lot of rude people, but when someone asks for water after only having one drink (not drunk), refusing such a basic need is outrageous.
A staple of the Philly gay community and one of the best places to gather and to meet new people. The Piano Bar is fantastic (especially when Max is playing - go see him on Tuesday nights after 9).There’s one or two piano players I don’t care for - they don’t know even basic show tunes; IMO, a pre-requisite for a gay piano bar…you need to have, at least, a few Sondheim & Jerry Herman hits in your repertoire.Don’t sleep on the restaurant on the bottom level! Very cozy, attentive & friendly service, and really good, uncomplicated food. A hidden gem, especially for a cute little date night in the gayborhood.
I had my credit card in the first floor in n open tab. I got a drink and when coming upstairs they made me go outside to make an hour line. All my friends were upstairs, it was raining and my coat was upstairs. I asked them many times to allow me go in but they were very mean.
Definitely a fine place to have a cold drink and watch a big screen tv. Weve been there so often over the past two years. They have a piano bar upstairs. Great atmosphere and awesome service. Their food is absolutely delicious. We usually go to the downstairs bar. Clean bathroom. It is located in the gayborhood. But so many straight people go there as well. Definitely a place where we typically end up in conversation with someone. It has a friendly vibe and is very safe. I highly recommend this establishment. Youve got to try this place.
Bartender get me banned and tried to tell the security guard that I did not pay my bill when really he was just mad that I didnt tip him because he made rude comments to me.
Tavern is my favorite gay bar in town. I feel safer here than any others in the area. My girlfriend and I always have a great time.Plus they do line dancing upstairs once a week. It’s the best!
We were here for a large lgbtq sports tournament. While the bar itself is great and the DJ on Thursday night, 7/13, was fabulous...However.. I have worked in lgbtq bars for almost 18 years...I have never experienced such awful security like I did here the 3 times we went, different times, different days. Every other bar this was not an issue except for here. Consistently throughout the weekend we heard of negative experiences. You have an amazing venue that I wish could be duplicated across the country...but please re-evaluate your security.
The staff is incredibly rude and awful overall. It started when my friends and I wanted to order food, which the staff was obviously annoyed with. We were then given an attitude when we wanted to sit at a table to eat our food. Were we expected to eat our plate of food standing up? (The entire section of dining tables was empty aside from one.) Don’t offer food if you don’t want people ordering it and if you’re going to act incredibly inconvenienced when they do. We then moved upstairs to the dance floor and after 15 minutes of dancing an older security guard came over and told my friend she was being “too loud” which was not true. Also, I’m sorry, what is “too loud” for a club?? We were not even two drinks in by this point so we were well aware of ourselves. We moved down to the piano bar to finish our drinks before leaving and this man had the audacity to follow us. So we left. Absolutely ridiculous and so rude. 0/10 would not recommend coming here and we will not be back.
Wonderful piano bar! The drinks are incredible and the service was superb. The pianists and singers also added a wonderful sound to the atmosphere.
Pianist was begging for tips and was heckling those who were singing. I was here on September 27 night in case you guys wonder which pianist. Bar is great but pianist ruins the experience being pissy about tips and announcing every second that they don’t get paid enough. Not even funny
I used to come here all the time when I lived in Philly about 15 years ago. A lot has changed but I still had so much fun. The piano players are extremely talented and so were majority of the singers that volunteered. Upstairs is great if you want a dance break. The bartenders are friendly and quick. The rest of the staff are also friendly and professional. Missed this place and cant wait to come back!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! There are three different floors with three totally different vibes. Its pretty much a one stop shop. Its also on a street that cars dont drive on, so you can spill out safely. Definitely a must every time I visit Philly! Great food and drinks! Excellent piano bar! Fantastic dance floor/club! ...go visit, youll thank yourself for it ;P
Show Tunes Sunday is always a great time until 1AM comes around and the lights abruptly turn on signifying that the 2nd floor is closing…not sure when this started happening but how lame. What kind of major city Queer bar/club is this!? This forces everyone to flood downstairs to the piano bar, where I have to also add, there’s only 1 bartender! Luis is great, friendly, and direct but he needs the extra help. Tavern did have 2 bartenders in the past, I guess cutting costs where they can…? Philly is too big of a community to really have such a small selection of Queer spaces nevermind ones that really don’t provide enough resources to its patrons and staff.
Went out for my birthday on Sunday the bartender was really great and the atmosphere was cute, which is why I gave this place 2 stars, but the little man at the piano was violently rude. He had people signing up to sing show tunes, but then denied me and my friend when we tried, and then when we sang along with him, because I guess he decided to sing some solos? He told us to leave, despite the bouncers and the bartender stating how weird that was. Maybe my understanding was wrong from all the other people singing along, but it seemed blatantly targeted that the Black trans folx were kicked out for participating in the fun. Hate to say that I will likely avoid this place at all costs, even though I love showtunes and a piano bar.
I can really only speak on the piano bar. Every time I go I have a fantastic time. Never overly crowded. Drinks are on the higher side as far as price but they’re delicious. Staff has always been nice. The pianists are always amazing.
Been coming here for over a decade. Left the city after college and come back every chance I can. The nicest people and the most wonderful gay owned and gay managed business. Dance floor with piano bar and a lower level restaurant. Buffalo cauliflower was exquisite. Every time I hear Whitney’s “Million Dollar Bill” I think of this place and smile.
Great Piano bar and the nite I went a wonderful player/singer.Loves Camac alley - so cool.Bar tender - Overtly rude.I’d heard rumors of Philadelphians being unfriendly. This guy perpetuates that.I’d avoid this place in future.( and BTW - lots of wonderful people in Philly. )
Wow, such a disappointment. I visited this bar on July 13 ,2022 as I read it had a cabaret bar on the first level and dance floor on the second level, and I wanted to go out and dance. There was one line to get in. We waited 20 minutes to get in. The younger patrons in front of us were carded, and the younger patrons behind us were carded. Once we were waived inside the foyer, there were two doors. The staff did not communicate how to access the dance floor, instead guided us to the cabaret section. I now know that there are two doors in the foyer: one with a with a door handle and window, yet another door with just a deadbolt. The obvious choice was the one with the handle which showcase the bar. Once inside the cabaret section, we attempted to take the stairs from the cabaret to the dance floor, but we were told by a male security member that we needed to go back outside and wait in line. I explained that we did wait in line and inquired how does one know which area they are accessing while coming into the place...he replied that I have to wait in line. I told him again that I did wait in line, yet for future reference how do I know which bar I am accessing...he responded that I opened the wrong door, and I must wait in line for the other. Interesting, the patrons in front of me and behind me were not in the Cabernet section of this bar. Later, I couldnt help but notice that the same bar personal I spoke to would open the deadbolt door for younger looking persons, and he would not for older looking customers. I noted the older patrons experienced the same dilemma we did. After witnessing the biased treatment, I finished the one cocktail I ordered andon my way out I said to the same security staff member: the gay community suffers from enough discrimination; I find it disappointing that this establishment seems to be discriminating on age. His immediate response was to shove me and tell me that I am out of here. Despite his physical aggression, I kept my hands in my pockets. I then expressed my frustrations with a new hire security staff member, and I have to say he was caught off guard. At least he understood my position and was willing to bring over management to make things right, but the damage was done for me.
I love Tavern but why did your security guy on 01:50 AM on 01/07/2024 fought me outside for waiting on my drunk friend? I dont understand. He even touched me and lifted me OUTSIDE and moved me over the street. Say thanks that I didnt call police for that. Just for WAITING MY DRUNK FRIEND OUTSIDE! Ridiculous! You at least owe me an apology.
Excellent service . Great food. Wonderful libations. A great place to spend the evening.
Do NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! Upon finding a safe space for queer LGBTQIA+ people they have homophobic security ( many other guests complained). When talking to a manager. It was very obvious that he had no care In his LGBTQIA+ customers. The security targets and attacked Gay customers. And when told. They sent their dominative Manager over. NOT TO CHECK THEIR EMPLOYEE!!!! But to ask what song I snag to make him feeluncomfortable! And when talking to the manager about his rude and aggressive security guard who was literally targeting people, he ran up on us even more aggressive!! Do not. I repeat... IF YOURE A TOURING COMPANY. AND APART OF THE COMMUNITY. DO NOT GOT THERE!!!!TAVERN ON CAMAC IS NOT A SAFE SPACE!!
We came here after watching the opera for late dinner, and it didnt disappoint. We were at what you will call the basement, as above is the piano bar, although they also have a bar downstairs. I had dark beer plus a burger, which was nice, except that the fries tasted greasy. Fine, helpful service by the lone service staff guy that time of a Friday evening. That space is rather quiet, which was awesome.
It was great that they had a piano − it created a fun mood. They didnt have any good wine though. I tried some beer instead and it was gross. The experience ended up being a disappointment. Idk why its so common for gay bars to have the same drinks menu as a dive bar 🤷
I’d give 0 stars if I could. The bartenders fully ignored me and my girlfriend because we are women. They served men who came up to the bar after us and blatantly chose not to engage with us. We were the only women at the bar so the misogyny was obvious. We left without ordering.
Fun fun fun! Piano bar! Great entertainment ♥️
I am a big fan of Tavern on Camac in all regards except the space (it’s sooo small, leading to a very crowded piano bar and dance floor upstairs). The atmosphere is really great, and the crowd is usually really chill. The downstairs piano bar, where you can go at night for live singing (which you can even participate in!) is really fun.The dance floor upstairs, although small, is great fun to dance on (they also play subjectively better music than some other places like Voyeur and Woody’s).There is even a restaurant downstairs for hanging out in when the upstairs gets too crowded, or to go to for a nice lunch or dinner.
This is a sad representation of a piano bar. The downstairs on a Saturday night was nothing short of dissapointing. Its no wonder that it was nowhere near crowded. The one bartender we had, after ignoring us for 5 minutes, was rude, short, and did not know how to mix a drink. The piano player played notion prior to 1997 (unless someone else was singing by request) and it quickly explained why the average age inside was what it was. If you want to turn this into a successful gay piano bar, then hire the right people and change the atmosphere. The only saving grace of this place was the upstairs had a decent mix of music and did create that younger vibe.
Cute little stop. Full of history. But the speakers sound awful and the piano is pretty badly out of tune (though Grant did his best to make up for it - definitely 5 stars for Grant)
I was reading the reviews and noticed all the bad comments saying women are not welcomed here and that is total bull. I am a woman who is straight and I work here never once was treated badly or never seen any discrimination going on here. This is my first time working in a gay environment and I never been treated with such respect that I got my boyfriend a job here too. He is even comfortable working here and is anti-gay. I got on here to read the reviews about the food I cook and read more about discrimination that is not happening here or I would leave. I hope I don’t get in trouble for commenting but I had to speak up when I know the truth. I was hired on the spot a female. So if women was not welcomed here for a short stay then why have I been here for months and staying. With all the prejudice going on in the world I won’t allow a few hateful people to ruin the reputation of a good place to eat by accusing them of sexism.
Security is definitely much friendlier than the last time I reviewed so Im back to loving this place on a regular basis. I do wish someone at the bar would order more of my favorite South Side Cucumber Seltzers though. 😉
I attempted to come here to get drinks last night while exploring the neighborhood as I am new to Philadelphia. I was told by the security guard at the door that I could only get drinks to go...the bar inside was serving lots of other customers so the only plausible reason I could come up with for being turned away at the door was that I was female? I was dressed nicely, and was friendly and respectful and really just wanted to have a drink at what looked like a nice bar in the gayborhood. Being from San Francisco I just didn’t think it would be a problem that a women might want a drink from what looked to be a fun gay bar. I’m still really confused by the whole situation but the security at the front door was so incredibly rude to me and made me feel so unwelcome. I will not be going back.
One of my favorite bars, Im here at least once a week. Sometimes the bartenders think a good drink means a heavy handed drink, but they are generally okay. The food downstairs is amazing, I highly recommend the porchetta and the grilled cheese with tomato soup. The piano bar is great fun for any day of the week, but upstairs is hit or miss. Check out the upstairs on Tuesdays and Sundays for Karaoke and Showtunes Sunday respectively.
I came here based on a book called “Unique Eats and Eateries” written by Irene Levy Baker. The restaurant is in the basement of building that also houses a piano bar and a dance floor, but both were not in operation when my wife and I dined here on a Thursday night. We were one of two tables and the service was fast and efficient. They have a full page selection of craft beer and wines at fair prices. The menu is simple, and with some research before we went, we ordered the fries (amazing), cheese sandwich with tomato soup, and the Wedge Salad. All of the food was perfectly cooked and had great taste. The fries were as good as you can make them. The wedge needed a little more Blue Cheese which the server immediately brought.I highly recommend the Tavern as a great place to eat in Center City.
Worldly folks, local communities finest, well rounded conversations from all corners. Surprising and fugal price for house specials, stunning chef favorites. Charming tight gathering center for welcomed socializing. Best in the biz bartender!
Super fun bar with a very welcoming vibe! I always feel comfortable here. Everyone is supportive of each other at the piano bar and the pianists are absolutely incredible.
The fat disgusting DJ on Saturday night is a bigoted disaster. Remove them from this establishment immediately!!!
Piano bar was up and alive. But.... the basement bar/restaurant was the worst of all the places we have been to during the day. Bartender/waitress was NOT friendly or talkative at all. She only spoke to the 2 workers there and gave the most ackward stink eye to the male patrons as if we were not the paying clientele that she wanted. Leaves Much to be disired when coming to a gay friendly bar in “gayborhood”.
I’m sorry why are y’all so LESBOPHOBIC????? Y’all want to kick my friends out for having a good time and “being too loud” and “disrupting the patrons” tell that to your 4x4 dance floor. Stop complaining about people like a bunch of Karen’s and making people uncomfortable in a safe space. I am an ally and I will not stand for this!!!!
The drinks were great! Our bartender was amazing and the piano player was very good.
Visiting and did not have a great experience here. I went from the upstairs to the downstairs bar not realizing that one of their stairwells is one way. They told me I couldnt go back upstairs and would have to wait in their long line again. What sort of a rule is that?
Tavern on Camac is great because of the piano player who invites guests to sing along to requested tunes. Its also great because downstairs is a cozy pub-like spot and upstairs is a club space. The crowd gets prettier as the night moves along. Just know the bartenders are cute boys who probably never took a class about how to make drinks. Both a Moscow Mule and Sidecar stumped them. #Philly #Gayborhood #Bar
I have been going to TOC for a little over a year now and I love it! My favorite spot is downstairs at the bar to enjoy an amazing meal and great drinks with Eddy! Its nice to get a table as well when I have friends and family visiting the city. The piano bar upstairs is wonderful and has a great vibe. I recommend this place to everyone!
What a fun place!!! Very friendly patrons and great piano music. Had a fantastic time singing along! Cant wait to go back.
For dinner - Had the cod. It looked disappointing but was actually really good with the chutney. My drink was good too. The servers, well, seemed tired and worn out. The piano bar service was much better but i wouldnt suggest going for the piano playing, was actually karaoke at one point.
Was looking for a local place for a bite. We strolled down this little alleyway, and found a diamond. This wonderful place has a piano bar. They make da best (heavenly) scallops! Their sides are a gastronomic joy to indulge in, the Brussels Sprouts and Acorn squash were scrumptious. The manager was cordial and such a pleasure to meet. Great place, but make reservations si vous plait , as they fill up fast!
What a great meal in a great setting. Everything was cooked to perfection. The staff was warm and welcoming. Don’t forget to go upstairs and enjoy the piano bar after dinner. Great night out.
Yesterday, my husband, a friend, and I went to Philly to celebrate our wedding anniversary. After having dinner at Knock, my husband wanted to go to Tavern on Camac. So we went and since we live in Wilmington DE, I could not drink because I needed to drive back to Wilmington. Our mutual friend, from West Chester met us in Philly and she also had to drive back to West Chester, ergo, she couldnt drink either. We, my friend and I had already had one drink with our dinner at Knock. So my husband was the only one who could drink. We bought him a drink at Tavern but apparently he was not drinking fast enough and we were not drinking at all because we had to drive. This did not sit well with the bartender because he approached us and unceremoniously kicked us out of the bar stating If you are not going to buy drinks you cant stay here. As we exited the bar, I suggested to the security guard that they place signs stating the minimum purchase required and how fast these need to be consumed. Having a sign at the entrance gives patrons a clear idea of what consumption requirements the establishment has. I hope the manager at Tavern seriously considers this advise and train the bartenders on how to treat customers.
Had a lovely meal in this nice gay friendly restaurant until ... after we paid the bill (for 6 people), the waiter asked us to leave because he needed the table for a reservation coming up. This occurred under 5 minutes after the bill was paid (we were in the process of putting our jackets on). -2 stars for this fatal mistake. Wont ever be back.
Line dancing on Fridays is always a blast!
This bar is okay with Asian hate crime. I am let down by the owners and management of tavern on camac after last night seeing the person John Hildalgo who hate crimed my friend for being Asian. He punch him in the face and broke a drinking glass in his face and hit another person and was told he can come back after a month. We reached out to gay bars in Philadelphia to ask them to not let John Hildalgo or his friends into bars after hate crimed somebody. Stephen who says he owns tabu tavern u bar knows what those friends did and allowed them back anyway. Tired of Asian hate :(
The night was going well, got a couple of beers. My boyfriend even sang a song with the piano man. Then, the bouncer decided to come over, even though we didnt see him the whole night, not even at the door when we got there, and ask for our IDs. We were all of age by a couple years, but he decided to argue and harass us because three of us were from out of state. After, he was extremely rude to all of us so we decided to leave and he harassed us the whole way out of the door. Just shows how poor attitudes can ruin an establishment.
Its sad this is the best bar in Philadelphia. On the first floor, a sea of white men wearing gingham shirts meet to relive the tightly buttoned social moires of highschool theatre. On the second floor, the DJ aggressively makes way for Jesus by mixing beats beyond the dancing abilities of our terrestrial bodies. In the basement you can contemplate Philadelphia over swirly deviled eggs. All the while locals draw the wrong conclusions about went wrong with their own lives, its Philadelphias greatest gay bar.
Visited TOC at 8pm on a Sunday and the female bartender blatantly ignored our party of 8. Unsure if she is prejudice towards straight people or what her issue was given the bar was only half occupied. Feel personally victimized and will not be visiting this located again unfortunately. Also a bartender in Philly and will vocalize to others what a terrible experience we had.
The best piano bar in Philly. Friday and Saturday nights can be busy around the piano on the main (first floor). Second floor is a dance floor those nights, and has a popular show-tunes video sing a long on Sunday nights.
One of the most diverse locations in the gayborhood. It includes a wonderful restaurant downstairs, a piano bar on the first floor and a night club on the top floor. Creative chef and some of the most delightful bartenders in town.
Ambiance is cool and its nice how much they have live performance, but they clearly dont want women here. Regardless of your age, if you look like a woman, youll be carded-- tho the guys you come with wont be. Be prepared to pay for water.
This place should have their liquor license reviewed. I was in here one time when there was a patron next to me that was intoxicated. He was intoxicated to the point that he was touching other patrons in an unwanted manner. The bartender witnessed this and ignored it. The bartender then continued to serve the patron drinks until he fell down and could not talk on his own. Ultimately, the police and ambulance had to be called and the patron escorted out because this establishment served an intoxicated patron drinks beyond what they shouldve been served. Then, my roommate patronized this place. They served him many drinks. Again, even though he was acting out, touching other patrons, yelling, kissing strangers, they did not stop serving him drinks. He is lucky I was there to cut him off because the bartender did not. He left speaking incomprehensibly and could not walk in a straight line. I was afraid he might walk into the patco train tracks. When will too much be enough for Camac? They might have blood on their hands from serving too many drinks and someone walking out and not even realize it.
Tommy is the BEST bartender in the Gayborhood! He always pays attention to his patrons and makes sure to serve everyone in the order they arrive. He makes fantastic drinks and is very friendly. Honestly I come to Tavern on Camac just for Tomy’s drinks. You can find him on the left hand side of the upstairs bar.
The oldest Gay bar in Philly, Pennsylvania and perhaps the USA.Alway greattach piano players who let you sing. (If you have a good voice that is)As one person complained... they had a sassy bartender... OF COURSE THEY DO IT IS A FUN GAY BAR.
We absolutely love this place. Wish their policy on how to use the stairs was different/friendlier/explained/removed haha. But good drinks, music, and bartenders.
I had been going there for years but something is wrong there now. I went outside and the security guard wouldnt let me back in much to my surprise and to the surprise of the bartender and my friend who was still inside. I told the security guard that my tab was still open and I had just gotten another beer. He made me stay outside while he went in to bring out my tab. I still tipped the bartender generously because he did nothing wrong. As I waited outside, others were allowed to stumble in. I couldnt help but notice that they were much younger than I. I will never go back.
Awesome singalong night upstairs, with so many great classics: Disney movies, Grease, Sound of Music, Rent and all kinds of other movie musicals. Gets a bit sloppy by the end of the night. A sassy bartender gave me a dirty look for ordering water (??)
1st and last time for this bar. Friend ordered a Cosmo from bartender Michael (upstairs bar). Bartender served my friend a completely different cocktail. When my friend responded I ordered a cosmo, bartender (Michael) stated Im too busy to make a cosmo, drink that and turned his back to us. Classy......
Nile Weber at the piano late night on Thursdays and early evenings on Saturday! He is amazing on the piano,on the mic,and reL Crowd pleaser! Sassy bartenders are great putting up with the influx of loud screaming women!
Chris provided great cocktails and great conversation. 10/10
Went during line-dancing tonight!!! Very fun until someone came up to my group of friends to tell them not to line-dance because they were disrespecting the “dancers”! Real buzzkill so we left. That’s all I have to say about that place.
I went there and they told me my Id was fake when I’m literally there all the time. The manger mike is racist and allow white people not only to say the n word in his bar but also all them to be chased out like an animal. I literally only there Micheal Raab
ToC is both independently sufficient and wholly necessary for any big gay night out
Great food downstairs and if youre into piano bars then this is the place for you. The changes done to the place look great. Ive been going to this place when it used to be Raffles.
Fun but the music is always meh. Nothing distinguishable, watered down music that no one really knows what theyre dancing to
Yes, Kyle is sexy but also nice to everyone. Always fun club/bar with a handsome and friendly staff. Love Sunday nights with Michael and show times.
Tavern is by far my favorite gay bar in Philadelphia, I enjoy the fact that I can choose between live music and dancing and theres never a cover!
Love that Incan choose to have a quiet meal, chat with friends at a quiet barb or have a lively dinner entertained by the awesome piano tunes, all in the same restaurant. Just change floors, ha!
The best place for Country Line Dancing in Philadelphia area! It’s Fridays 7-10p, with lessons at 7pm.
Great piano player and many singers with talent! Went this weekend from NY Thank you for a great visit
Out of all the LGBT bars in Philly, this is the best. Nothing world-class of course, but it’s the best you’ll find in Philly.
Really friendly and fun place with an upstairs and downstairs bar, came here on pride and the vibe was great, there was a lot of diversity and welcomeness
Not sure .. gone back four times since they re-opened.. not sure but something is wrong with the bartenders... there seems to have no knowledge of mixed drinks.. (for some of us to dont drink beer this can be bad...) and there is is clique going on there... and had a friends drink cleared by the bar-back guy and we politely told the bartender but it seemed like he thought we were lying (mind you we had been there for an hour listening to the piano)..NOT RECOMMENDING ANY FRIENDS TO GO BACK THERE OR
Its a lot of fun if you want a piano bar and then a dance club this is for you.
Fun place. Had my bachelor party there. Dinner was great, dance hall was fine, piano bar was great!
Had a great time Sat Dec 16th after Philly Gay Bingo, bartenders were so kind, and really fun. Loved the entire evening..will be back!
The atmosphere here is usually cool. Be careful of the drinks though. They are strong AF.
Tavern will always be a staple place for me to reccomned to new buyers in the neighborhood. Love the piano bar!
Had a renewal confirmation for my state drivers license with my expired license and they said it wasnt legal. Really? If its good enough for the US justice system how is it not good enough for their bar?
Love the live music. The Painists and singing pairs are always mesmerizing. They have great cocktails here too!
Great atmosphere. Terrible drinks, but that’s what you expect from a gay bar.
Worse music ever, they were playing Disney songs on pride weekend night. I cant believe it 🤦🏻
I wouldn’t normally recommend a restaurant in a gay bar. But the restaurant downstairs is one of the best Gastro pubs in Philadelphia. And I’ve eaten at them all😄
This bar seems to be a fan of discrimination. Dirty looks, blatantly ignored, served others who came in after me. I walked right out. Will NOT come back
Great place for drinks and phenomenal ambiance with the piano players
Cool place. Musics a little dated and clearly noone around here has ever heard of house music so if you need me call me..music sucks =)
Very fun bar, just don’t go when Jimmy Depre is the DJ!!
The upstairs DJ refuses to play Beyoncé at a gay club. Please replace him.
Fun place. Dancing. 2 stepping and hustle dancing. Fun fun fun. Great gay place. And everyone is friendly.
The door guy was amazing. The music was great. Had a blast. Love it will surely be back.
Refuses to play music unless it’s from 10 years ago but not in a good way (refuses to play new Beyoncé)
Delicious burger and excellent side salad. Texture and dressing of the side salad was perfect.
Usually the nights that I visit here, its Drag Queen heavy. It is always a funny and great time.
Excellent! Never fails to be the same great service and food and drinks, every time I come here. And I havent been here in over a year.
Had to call the police on this placeThe security guy Joseph denied my access because he does not know how to read a covid vaccine proofAnd worst than that the owner who is calling himself mike an older man was trying to avoid me from going into my hotel room which is next doorPolice cameStay away
Visiting from london we had a great evening great drinks and great staff
This was such a good time! I enjoyed every second of the piano tune!
Went last night and didnt like it. They had 3 chicken tenders for $9-10... thats ridiculous.
Dance floor upstairs, piano bar downstairs. Nice crowd and fun.
Rude
A little piece of heaven with a piano and a chill atmosphere!
Weekday piano downstairs is relaxing
Great piano bar. Great fun place.
Probably one of the best bars in the city of Philadelphia.
Great drinks, great atmosphere, and great music!
Great piano bar and great food
Pretty busy, at the time was hard to get a drink
Do you have to pay to get in for the upstairs room?
Awesome dancefloor on Friday.
Most boring music ever!!!
Fun on Sunday.. Broadway days!!
Great piano bar!
Super friendly staff & great environment!
Communication is key, keep that mind.
Best crowd ever!!
Loved the bar maid
