Have been wanting to come here for a couple of years, and happy I finally stopped in. The place is very clean, spacious, and AWESOME drinks. I think the stools are creative and comfortable; just maybe a bit dangerous if hammered! Food portion is decent, tasted fresh and nice 😁 I shall return, and it will not be in years or months... it shall be much sooner.
Honestly, I cant rate the food or drinks since I never received any. I come to Baltimore each year, and this time, I was covering fleet week. I walked to Edgar Allan Poes grave site and museum and wanted to see the last bar allegedly that he was either on his way to or the last bar he actually went to. (Depending upon the sources) Never the less this was supposed to be the Poes trifecta for the day. It was a beautiful walk from the Inner Harbor and the area, and people were kind and inviting. Upon my arrival, still early in the evening. (there was still daylight, but the sun was setting) I arrived, and the security guard was the last bit of welcoming that I received. The security guy gets 6 stars!!!! Once inside, I could not get served to save Edgar Allan Poes life! I went to the top bar, but the bartender, she seemed to be more interested in her conversation with another patron. There were only 4 people at the bar... I went back down to the lower bar and sat on the end (7 people at this bar) same service. The bartender kept walking around and talking to staff, acknowledging I was there, but, never came over. I literally sat and googled dive bars and food near me. I found another bar and another food area. I made some social media posts caught up on emails and never was asked for an order. The security guy eventually came in and looked at me greeted me again. After another few minutes of giving the establishment a chance. I packed up my camera gear and ended up eventually at bar 1919. (FYI Completely different experience !!! Review on that place to come!! 10 stars!!!) Anywho, this was my experience and would not bring any of the crew to this establishment... Go where youre celebrated and not tolerated...
A poet’s last stop — and as I stepped out its narrow door onto the pleasantly cool brick street at the end of the night, I too felt (in the most respectful way) that I could be found mysteriously expired in the gutter the next morning.Seemingly a hotspot for tourist and townie alike, conversations at the bar ranged from a crash course in local brewing history to an overview of Maryland’s waterways and nautical culture, with brief interludes about the word “yuppie” drifting back into the local lexicon and when a man can and can’t pull off a mustache. The oldest continually operating saloon in the United States (open since 1775!), the Horse saloon is aware of its connection to Poe but lets you forget it in favor of saddle seats, a visual horse gag for the times, and live music all night. The walls are plastered in a blend of east coast and old world Americana, and the bathrooms were a step up from what I’ve come to expect from my usual dives. At one point, a young woman came in and asked where another popular local bar was, and while others may have told her to pound sand, the bartender gave her wholly non-sardonic instructions on how to get where she wanted to go. I liked that. For one night in a city I had no business being in, this little hole in the wall felt like home. Check it out if you appreciate colonial history and local color. I’m told the beer isn’t as cheap as it was just a few years ago, but where is it?
This is a must go when you are in that area of Baltimore. Such an interesting and funky place to be. Supposedly it was the last place Edgar Allan Poe visited before they found his body. The bar is like something I havent been to before. The seats are horse saddles and its amazing!!! The decoration is quite interesting and they have a lot of cool things on the walls. They have live music and the place is fairly big so they have multiple areas for you to sit down. We went during the day and it was fun, I can imagine at night must be even better! We didnt try the food so we dont have an opinion about it but the bartenders were friendly and super chill. Ill definitely recommend this place even if its.just for one drink and have the experience but definitely recommend it 🔥🔥🔥
Cute pub with an interesting claim to fame. You can see it in the decor which is quite unique all over the spacious place. We just came in for a drink to check it out. They have quite a selection of craft beers and two bar areas. Friendly service. No one was eating so we didn’t try to get a meal there. Seems more like a watering hole.
Stopped at this bar for a quick drink. We were robbed blind. I had a double Titos and water it was $24. My husband had a domestic beer and a shot of whiskey. Our total bill was $43. Service wasnt great either. So many other choices. No wonder the place was empty. Will not be back.
You should probably stop in here when in Baltimore/Fells Point. Fun upbeat atmosphere. Bartenders are friendly. The stools at the bar are saddles. Be careful getting on and off them - we saw someone tip over - perhaps should have done side saddle. There were two bars. We didn’t eat anything. I’m not even sure they have food. There was live music which was nice. Many beer and cocktail options. According to the internet this was the last place Edgar Allen Poe was seen alive.
The Horse is an awesome place. They have good food drinks and service. The staff are all so nice and I always have a good time. Definitely stop by! Clint is the best bartender
Only one bartender was there, but he could handle the low volume of business and wasnt overwhelmed. But he could really check his ego at the door. Customer service wasnt his thing. They had live music there, which is why I gave 4 stars on the atmosphere. Also, I was a bit irritated with the musician there bc I tipped him $10 or $20 bucks for a song that he said he loved and will see if he can sing but never did. Oh well, I wasnt too bothered but I would have expected for him to say I cant play that or if I cant play that, is there another song youd like me to sing? It was a cool place to see, though, but it didnt give me a reason to come back.
This historic Baltimore landmark brings, iconic vibes, and mystery mixed with extreme spookiness to you’re evening. The original watering hole of Edgar Allan Poe is dark, eerie, and ominous feeling. The fact this legend used to come here all that time ago and get wrecked is just un fathomable , In the best way. The servers are good and I enjoy myself here.
This slab of history still stands the test of time! Staff is accommodating and friendly, also giving great tips for other places of interest to check out, these bartenders may as well be tour guides😂. The live entertainment is awesome, and the decor had me staring at novelty signs on the walls for nearly a half hour. So great to have a drink at the bar where Poe was last lucid👌🏾
Historical bar more than 200 years old. One of the oldest continuously running saloon. Also has literary connections as it is famous as Poes Last stop. Apparently this this place was frequented/liked by Edgar Allen Poe. There is no food I believe. But draft beers are great.
Edgar Allen Poe’s ghost is supposed to haunt this bar. I didn’t feel any tingling on the back of my neck like there as a poltergeist. I did feel my shoes stick to the floor. Sticky shoes aside, this is a neat bar with some historic signage / and some other things that are a bit more modern. They had live music the day I was there and can definitely pick good acts. I have to imagine this place gets packed on the weekends.
This historical bar has a very cool atomosphere. Pretty big place that was cool to walk around and look at the decor. I got fish tacos and fries, which were pretty good! They do have live music which was pretty loud, couldnt really hear much but luckily they started playing as we were ready to leave.
This is said to be the oldest continually operational tavern in the United States. It is also believed where Edgar Allen Poe had his last drink. Theres a chair that is called the Poe chair even though it is not only modern but just like all the other chairs. This bar has a country and western motif. One glass of millers draft was 7.50.
Would never return the guy was extremely rude and I had to resist my urge to respond. Didnt provide a happy hour menu this is definitely not the place for happy or future dine in arrangement. #thereisaidit
Amazing cocktails, and the place was very lively even on a week night. Will definitely go again! :)
Great atmosphere (love the skylights!), good drinks (even freshly-pressed orange crushes), and music 7 days a week- not much more you’d ask for in a bar that is 249 years old
After touring the Westminster Hall Catacombs we stopped here for lunch. The live music was great, everyone was having a good time, and the bar food was good - spring rolls and buffalo flatbread pizza hit the spot.
Great bar historic landmark with saddle bar seats, and live music. If youre looking for a place that has more of a local feel, this is it. Well be back.
Our drinks were on point. The live band was awesome. The bathroom attendant is a nice touch. Will visit again
I’m torn here. The atmosphere is pretty fun. Still…it’s a dive bar. $8 for a Miller lite??? $22 for a Long Island? No wonder Edgar died after coming here. Best to stick to places around here that are worth the money and don’t rip you off
I stopped in yesterday, Feb 18, 2024.I enjoyed the live music and the saloon themed aesthetic.I ordered a Blackberry Gin cocktail and my husband ordered a Sagamore Whiskey Sour cocktail. That is all we ordered. Although the cocktails were good, I was shocked to see the bill come out to about $32 as there is no pricing transparency on their menu. There was a servicing fee added as well as extra charges for using card for payment. The establishment offsets their cost of transaction fees for card use on its patrons. Just for a comparison, I bought 6 drinks (4 beers and 2 shots of tequila at Koopers Tavern up the street for roughly the same price). Of the 3 establishments I patroned at, this was the only one with a card use penalty. I would not recommend spending here as your purchasing power is low here. Your money will go further in many other establishments nearby.
Nowhere to tie up my steed but loved the atmosphere. Great tap options and cocktails. Most definitely will be back
The oldest bar in Maryland is tucked away in the now posh and gentrified heart of Fells Point. Come check out the awesome interior which has the feel of a Western bar, and have a few drinks with the ghost of Edgar Allan Poe, the same who rumor has it had his last drink here before he fell unconscious in the street outside and died four days later.
I visited the Horse this weekend. I haven’t been in a while but I had a great time, yet again! My friend and I sat at the front bar for our first drink and met one of the Managers named Jules (?) when he decided to check in to see how we were doing. It was such a nice gesture, especially for such a large bar. I feel like it’s one of the few bars downtown that has great music (whether live or DJ) and dancing. I danced the night away! I will definitely be going back soon!
So this place was just okay. The bartender had very little personality. The bar itself was actually pretty cool and I guess on a busy night it would be happening. The best thing about it was that its rumored to be the last place that Edgar Allan Poe had visited before he died. Would I go back? It would have to be an occasion.
Love this bar, the vibes, the people. Eric, Jules, Tia, and the crew at Horse are amazing. Had my wedding afterparty here and they went above and beyond for me and my guests. Everyone had a blast, the music was bumpin, the service was top notch. Highly recommend this awesome and historic bar!
Extremely rude service. I definitely feel it was because of my color. I wasnt even greeted as I walked through the door
My friend and I stumbled upon this place while walking around Fells Point. It was one of the only places we found that had an accessible entrance! (My friend uses a mobility scooter.) Tia was our bartender and she was so personable and attentive. Anton was playing live music and taking requests. And we me the owner, Eric, who bought us a round. We had a really great experience and would definitely come back if were ever in the Baltimore area again :)
Awesome and great bar. I’m glad I made the trip to it. Highly recommended to anybody who comes to Baltimore
I really liked this place. Up front theres a bar and lots of tables and chairs that you can sit at, have drinks and listen to music. All the way in the back theres another room that also has a bar but its more like a night club with lights and dance floor. Thats where we spent most of the night. Drinks were great and flowing all night. We had a blast.
A great place to go for fun! The bartender and live music were awesome!
The bouncer was incredibly disrespectful and aggressive. He threatened me and my female friends to the point of it almost being violent. I willNever and I mean NEVER come back here. And there is a lick of racism
Daughter is studying at Ohio State University in history so this was a must stop after DC. Loved it
Enjoyed this place. At first, our server Mark was obviously not into serving us. Not sure why he seemed so grumpy. Then Brian came on and he was great! Band was good. Thanks for the hangover!😉
Dropped in while in the city last time to have a drink at Poes last stop, historically speaking the place is amazing, the bartenders and servers are very friendly and willing to share ghost stories and local lore. To my scholars, goths, and nerds: I know it has the spooky associations, but be aware before going that the place is currently a Western/cowboy theme. It might save you the jarring shock that it gave me lol.
It has an weird layout but is also very cool to check out. This is the last place Edgar Allen Poe drank before he was found unconscious on the streets of Baltimore. It gets very crowded on weekends and usually has live music. Food is pretty standard Bar fare. Definitely worth a stop in for a drink or three.
A very unique bar, style-wise. The stools at the bar itself are styled as small saddles, and the interior is quite unique. The drinks are quite good, and the staff are friendly, and really know their business. The atmosphere is comfortable, and the interior is a nice size, leaving plenty of room to move around.
Funky little Tavern featuring Edgar Allen Poe atmosphere.
An actual bar with a soul. Kudos to The Horse and Team for providing Baltimore with a go-to place to enjoy music and people. The staff is always friendly and the patrons actually have a smile on their faces. Till next time!
Just as a saloon should be, small intimate with a friendly bar tender
Great place, was a lot of fun. Live music and great food.
Here with friends last night (12/8/22) and the live music was so F**KING LOUD, we tried going to the back and they had speakers back there too making it even louder!! It was good music well played but turned up way way too loud. The kitchen was closed at 10pm, 3.5hrs before closing time?? Those who ordered chugged there drinks and we left asap. The place was dead, maybe 5-6 customers, wonder why?? We found another open bar with food. My head was pounding with pain, It was the equivalent of someone standing next to you screaming in your ear, even woke up the next morning with a headache!!If the music is to chase away customers then mission accomplished!!
My favorite bar in Fells!! Sarah makes the best orange crushes!!!

Would absolutely not let a friend in that we had with us because “changing your shirt isn’t gonna get you in here”, but we had not tried to enter the place prior to that moment. After showing a valid ID, trying to explain, and showing that we were all from out of state they still insisted we had tried to get in earlier that night. Clearly unprofessional establishment, the man working the door had a gun so we couldn’t argue with him too much, and he clearly knew he was wrong and just told us to “just go to another bar man, you aren’t getting in here”. Absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable behavior by a bouncer that clearly can’t tell the difference between different patrons trying to get in
2 Natty Boh drafts that are not even a full pint cost $18.14. No thanks!
We were just hanging out in Baltimores Fells Point neighborhood, and stop in for a couple of pints. They had live music playing, and its a quaint old tavern. Service was fine - they had several selections on tap (out of a few that we would have enjoyed trying). Will plan to return on another visit.
Nice place, friendly staff. Disappointed the kitchen is CLOSED and has been for months. Fix this google.
Had a great time here before. However, recently returned and the music was so deafeningly loud it was unbearable. We held out hope that when the band went on at 10pm, we would have some relief. Nope! The band played and the absurdly loud music still blasted from the other end of the bar. It was hard to tell what you were listening to at that point.Cool atmosphere and nice servers, but they really need to get that under control. I felt bad for the band trying to compete with house music.
Very cool bar and they had live music when I went with a group. It was very loud of you were trying to talk to people but had a great vibe to the place. Bartenders were great as well! Only complaint was the bouncers were pretty aggressive and not very friendly. They pushed the crowd out half an hour before close and stopped letting people in an hour before close. Otherwise a pretty cool place to spend an evening.
Such a great experience, our Bartender Brian was amazing!
I hung out here back in the late 80s through about 1993. It was my favorite place to go. Live music, lively atmosphere, great bartenders and yummy drinks.I love the history of it and hope to visit again the next time I’m in Maryland.
Been here multiple times at night. Music is always a little too loud and you can’t hear after leaving. They’ve never seen IDs from other states so be wary especially if it’s vertical. One time I was just standing and some little meat head picked me up and threw me out the bar, dude must’ve had a headache from being in there. Guy didn’t say anything or tell me he was staff, just started touching me. I’d recommend going to some of the other bars in the area.
Fun bar great bartenders, Nathan specifically! Owner/manager a little ruff, non personable...possibly a complex of some sort but overall everything else was fun. Great live bands!
Good live music, great vibe and fascinating history.
We were visiting Baltimore from Philadelphia for a few days. We decided to stop in for a night out. We were not disappointed! The atmosphere and staff were awesome! We went back a couple more times during our stay and we will be back for sure!
The bar was awesome, we had a big group and came in trying to get some drinks. The bartender got all of us really fast with no issues. We werent feeling the slow country music when we first arrived but whoever was DJ must of felt the vibe because they switched it up pretty quick. We ended up dancing in front of the bar all night after that. I barely remember leaving, kudos all around. Well be back most definitely.
I had a great time at The Horse You Came in On. The service was quick and the food was delicious. We loved the crab dip, pretzel bites, and home made potato chips. There was live music playing in the middle of the day which I consider to be awesome. Dana, the bartender was exceptional. She made certain that people at the busy bar and tables were served quickly. And shes adorable. She has such a kind spirit. It was a blast overall. I recommend it for a quick lunch or a long night. You cant go wrong.
I love this place, the music they play is great and I also love the idea that you can text your photos and you can see them on the screens. The staff are cool and very friendly. The place is safe, the security team are really working hard to make it a good place to party.Never eaten there and I am not sure if the serve food. The only thing that I really dont like is the space and how crowded it gets sometimes, but since this how clubs are I couldnt give lower than 5 stars. If you are planning to party in Baltimore make sure to try this place, you will love it.
You can enjoy seeing the historic site -- the location has been continuously used as a pub/tavern since 1775. Does that imply they were active during the prohibition era?!? I wont say a thing if you dont! The original bar is right up front and used when theres a bigger crowd. Youll see it as you walk in the front entrance. The staff is friendly. The place has a fun atmosphere and the background music doesnt interfere with your conversations. Their sign which reads beer and bullit area delivers as advertised!
Great live music and beer selection on tap. (Even ciders on tap, theyre my favorite). The staff is super nice and treats you like long time family.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff and always seem to have the best live entertainment. Its one of those places you never get tired of going to and always run into familiar faces there.
Awesome place. Went early when not real crowded and got a preview of the band. At 11pm, it was packed and the band was killing it. Lots of dancing, drinking and fun. I wish we lived closer...
Great atmosphere, the night we went ,, there 3 music venues at the same time in separate bars.Dance, Dance , danceIts definitely a place to visit, we will be back
I have only been to this place once but the owner made us feel very welcomed and the food was great. We even had a couple shots of their infused vodka or tequila...not sure what it was actually but it was delicious. If you are looking for a good place for a good time with great food this is simply a must if you are even in Baltimore. I was really surprised about the negative reviews so I figured I would come here and let the people know what a good time I had. The staff was great, the food is priced well and was amazing. I have recommended this place to several of my friends. A+
Great local venue with live music. The guitarist that was playing when I went was decent but pretty funny in between songs. Food was good, beer was cold, bartender was friendly. I can see why this place is popular. Ill be back.
Pretty cool bar. One if the places Edgar Allen Poe used to drink at. Went on St Patricks day and there was live music and a lively crowd but not too many people that it was uncomfortable. They serve food but I didnt have any while we were there but the stuff they brought to people looked good. Will definitely be back!
Been going to this bar for years, I go for the ambiance and history more than anything else. This location is the oldest, continously running pub/saloon in America. Great live music most days of the week, the spot really blows up on weekends. Its a staple destination in Fells Point so if youre visiting the city its somewhere you dont want to miss.
I first came here after deployment in 2017 because someone I was deployed with loved it, and it was one of the best experiences Ive had in a bar. The history, culture, and atmosphere are hard to beat in the longest running bar in the U.S. Ive been here a few times since, and nothing has changed.I am upset that I went there 30 minutes before closing last night and they wouldnt let me in. I get it though, but i was sad.
Always a fun crowd. Live music everyday.
This location has a good crowd, good drinks and creative decorations. On some occasions there is live music. They entire establishment host 4 bars with ample amount of space and seating. Weekends are typically busy. Sunday’s are very relaxed with crowds coming in and out.
This bar is unique. A lot of funny quotes on the wall. Good collection of bottle drinks and cocktail menu at good prices. The night i was there, the live band was awesome and the crowd was quite lively. I loved that it was not too crowded. It is a great place to unwind
Came all the way from Philly to hear Mike Newberry, Steve Decker, and Brandon Sturm play. They were excellent together and should consider starting a band. We drank and danced all night. Thanks for a great time.
One of the most unique bars in the city. Just a wonderful cool spot. Always live music. Plenty of things to look at on the walls. Always clean. Very professional staff. The door staff is always very professional. The owner is one of the nicest people Ive ever met in Baltimore. Hes very passionate about the business. And he does a great job with his staff. Nothing but good things to say about this place.
Great atmosphere. Fun throwback to the old saloons. Afternoons were mellow and nights were wild. Service was excellent. Shout out to Mark one of the bartenders. It was like having a private tour guide to the city.
Went here and was amazed at how the sound system works! Theres live music then there is a semi club scene and then there is a semi hip hop area too. The drinks were good and not too expensive and the interior is cool to look at. A LOT of history here too Edgar Allen Poe took his last drink here , so you might want to check it out!
They charge seven dollars for a Miller light bottle and eight dollars for a 12 ounce Miller light draft. Not sure what else you need to know. Great place for douchebags with more money than brains. Despite advertising to the contrary, they haven’t served food since mid-2022.With a few exceptions the bartenders range from surly to suck. Live music much of the time, Including late afternoons during the week. Consider only if desperate and Cat’s Eye stage is barren.Worst is a woman who sneers pretty much non-stop, and kept my change as a tip without asking.
Came here for my birthday and we had a blow up alien (not huge, maybe 2 feet tall) with us and they would not let me in with it. While that was a little annoying, as I had just taken it into a different bar with no issues, I respected their rules and left it with the bouncers behind a flowerpot. However, when we came out to retrieve it, the bouncers had let someone else take it. While it was not a super valuable item, it was very disappointing that there was no respect for my property and will make me think twice about going there again.
Really good bar. Our bartender was awesome. Always kept checking in on us and we kept joking with her because she kept checking to see if the level of our glasses.I love that there was also a back dancefloor and a coverband on the other side of the wall. Was way bigger than we expected. Would definitely stop by again next time we are in town.
Nice place to hangout with friends, you ll see good options of beers but not many IPAs. Live music is always a plus and place is jam packed on weekends.
I love the Horse. They always have live music and the bands are really good. I usually go for their happy hour which is Monday through Friday 4-8PM. They have the latest happy hour in the area which is a major draw. You can get apps at less than half price and dirt cheap beer. If you stay there later it turns into a legitamate club with a dancefloor. The early evening is more my place as it is a little more chill with live country music.
Love this place so much! A must to go if youre in the area.
Great place with great history on a cobblestone street with claim to fame as Americas oldest bar. Its also said to be the last place Edgar Allen Poe had a drink before stumbling home to his death. Fun atmosphere with very interesting decor and the live music was exceptional during our visit. Food is decent enough bar food but nothing so special that any of our dishes were a wow. Had a great time there and will definitely visit again.
This is supposedly the oldest bar in Baltimore, but its been redone and frankly the decor is a bit hokey. However, the beers were good even though the selection was a bit sparse. There was live music which we enjoyed. All in all, mediocre bar. I liked it, but wouldnt go out of my way to go back.
Great atmosphere and bartender. The stools are horseback saddles and fun to sit on. The $5 happy hour specials were great and the cinnamon whiskey was very smooth. I dont normally drink whiskey however they flavor their own and it was very nice and smooth. I also sampled the green apple and honey ones.
Staff was friendly. Drinks were good. This was my second time coming here. Its more chill on a Sunday afternoon than on a weekend, if youre not into crowds.
Very interesting place to go to once. Lots of history. There is live music, sad to see so few people there on a Thursday night. Food was hot but basic pub food. Very clean restrooms. Bouncer was a funny guy.
The server was great, the food was pretty good, and the atmosphere was ok. Its fun to visit these old places, so its worth checking out if your in the area. My Philly Crab Steak sandwich and Sweet Potato Waffle fries were worth the trip, but Ill probably try another place when Im back in the area.
I love this place, David the bartender is amazing. Dana the Bartender is Awesome, and Mark the Bartender is a bit shy at first but then he is cool and also very cute.Their happy hour is awesome the cowboy fries are so yummy and the wings are finger licking good. They also have live music.
The bartender was very rude and gave me a rush service. I asked what did she say cause I couldn’t hear her and she rolled her eyes and caught an attitude. I was very confused about her attitude was trying to enjoy my evening in Baltimore. It was more frustrating when she took my friends orders was very pleasant about it
TOO LOUD! They need to turn it down! My whole body was vibrating from the sound of guitar strum?! Why? Unpleasant, we needed to leave 3 minutes in, which is a bummer because the place looked fun and we wanted to enjoy our time there. The loud music ruined the experience, just unnecessary
I loved this saloon! You can feel the history (if that makes any sense). It was a very cool experience. The bartenders were really nice. Drinks were good.
This place has an awesome atmosphere in the heart of Fells point. Its a large old saloon (oldest in Baltimore) that has a great vibe. The beers are priced Right and they make a mean mule. The food was also very good I recommend their Old bay wings. Will be back next time Im in Baltimore.
Thanks for a great time!! Dropped in for lunch... off season on a Saturday and the saloon was almost empty. Fun time to walk around inside and see all the stuff in the walls. Great signs, loved those. Had the grilled fish tacos which were really good and bought two Ts, mens and womens. Nice soft material, very nice. Loved the tagline.
Interesting history and quirky decor were great, however the live music although very good was far too loud to be able to sit, drink and comfortably chat with friends. If it had been just a bit lower we would have stayed a lot longer chatting and drinking but we moved on to a venue where you could hear yourself think!
The live music was decent but the place wasnt worth the 25$ cover on NYE. The good thing about this place? Lot of sections with different music playing. Youll likely find your taste of music playing in one of the sections. Drinks were pretty standard.
Nice casual bar, has an interesting history and a saloon kind of vibe while still managing to be modern and not cheesy, which is pretty impressive for a place that has saddles for barstools. We went on a Wednesday and they had love music, which was nice, and the bartenders really know their stuff, the food was pretty good too.
This Saloon is absolutely my favorite place to visit in Fells Point. I always start there during my bar hopping and end there late at night. They have great merchandise for you to purchase and I never leave there without purchasing something for myself and friends from hoodies to shot glasses. The staff is amazing, the owner is amazing and they make you feel like family. We had taken some friends there for their first visit from Pennsylvania and they as well loved the Horse You Came In On. I would definitely recommend this place to visit 💯💯❤❤
First time in the area and first time at this bar. Mike the bouncer at the door was very welcoming and professional unlike a lot of bars in Fells point with aggressive bouncers. Brittney took care of us while we were there and did a great job! Will be coming back!
After hearing about the history of this place and seeing the neat exterior, I came in with some friends for dinner. I was pretty disappointed with the interior. Reminded me of an odd cross between Texas Road House and Applebee’s. Definitely not the “ye old colonial pub” I was expecting. The whole vibe was a little strange and the smell.. oh the smell. I think it was an air freshener but the whole place smelled like some sort of flowery baby powder body spray. Such a disconnect with the name and exterior. The food was decent and our server was nice but I wont go back.
I had a great time , definitely recommend the bartender name Vy , she did a great job at keeping my cup full and making sure I was good. She was on top of things and managed to get to everyone at good timing despite there being more then 6 people requesting drinks she kept her cool and kept that rhythm going throughout the night. She’s amazing 👏🏼 Will definitely be visiting more often.
One of the best values for happy hour hands down. Very cheap drinks and food, both of which are above average. Happy hour tacos were a pleasant surprise. Barstaff is casual but attentive, and they often have music. All around solid Fells bar.
Really nice ambience and the bartender was very kind knowledgeable and friendly. The happy hour is sadly limited to two types of beers and they have no food .
This place is awesome. I was a major tourist taking pics of everything! We ordered some appetizers that were all pretty good, not great but our drinks were awesome. Everyone is very friendly here. I definitely want to go back.
This place is never not a strange combination of chaos. Theres one spot in the place where you can hear 2-3 different songs going at once. But I think its a lot of fun. The setup is neat. the history is neat. there are purse hooks and lots of places to sit and lots of places to dance. Also, there is a 100% chance you will get to hear some dude with a guitar covering Sublime if youre there during live music, so theres that.
Great place for drinks, music, and dancing. Bartenders are great even if they get busy. Prices are fair. My review may be geared towards people who like to dance, but in my opinion that is what the Cantina side is for. DJ Q is awesome. Hate to say it but DJ Har V is awful! An occasional throwback is great! but its like we are in the early 2000s the entire night when he plays. I know when there is music playing that gets everyone hyped, people are more inclined to drink and stay! All I can say is if no one is moving clearly it sucks, sorry! Fridays tend to be better if youre looking for more current dance music.
This is a little hole in the wall with delicious food. I have Chile Lime Tacos and they were done very well. The food in inexpensive and the the service was quick. I went on a Monday afternoon around lunch time and it wasn’t busy at all and there was live music. Please go and buoy the food at the bar Edgar Allen Poe has his last drink.
Very creative layout of the bar, as well as very good drinks. It’s very packed , but it’s worth going every once in a while. Also it was Edgar Poe’s last bar he went to before he died, and his ghost haunts the place, maybe cuz no one offers him a drink anymore.
Id possibly give a good review if your bouncer at the door wasnt so ignorant. All I can say is Im glad I didnt come into your establishment to spend my money today. Its a shame because Ive been a hand full of times over the years but today after the comments and undertones of your bouncer it will be a while before I come back. You really need to screen your security staff better and teach them to respect your customers.
The website said they were closed (COVID) so we were pleasantly surprised they were open! I love this place for the Poe history, my wife loves it for the saddle stools & country theme. We will always stop here whenever we come to Baltimore. Staff is so friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!! 💓
There was a guitar player who was too loud, but pretty good. We were charged $28 for two shots and two beers, but didn’t receive a receipt so we don’t know how much anything cost. The bartender was personable.
My wife and I frequent the Horse often and we really enjoy ourselves. The live bands that perform there are amazing. The food is really good especially the burgers and the wings. The Horse definitely offers something for just about everyone. I highly recommend The Horse You Came In On, whether you want to hear live music , a DJ, have a few drinks, or a quick bite, you have to stop by and check out the oldest saloon in Baltimore.
Live music offers some refreshing perspective on nightlife. Different sections of the bar play completely different music from each other, offering a better chance of finding your desired vibe. Not much room to sit outside of the bar area itself.
This place is great BUT watch the bartenders when you order a drink. They will substitute your alcohol. I ordered a casamigos shot and they gave me a lower end tequila. On another occasion I ordered Malibu and sprite, they gave me a different coconut rum. For most people thats fine but if you have allergies or food sensitivities, let me tell you it doesnt end well for the night. Other than that, the live music at The Horse You Rode In On is good and the bar is western themed and its cool. The Horse You Came In On has a good dj as well.
Awesome place the bartenders Tea and Ryan were excellent and the doorman Ty recommended the Edgar Allan Poe veer which was fire 10 out of 10 would go again
Awesome historic bar with a great spirits selection and fantastic ambiance and vibe at this hip hangout. It gets crowded because of its destination fame so be prepared but they have multiple bar areas to handle the crowd and that helps. There is something for everyone here and its definitely a place to stop by.
We loved it! Brian can make a very nice whiskey and 7. Seltzer was good too
I was there a little over a week ago. The bartender Stephanie was very attentive. Neither I nor my friends had to wait long for a drink and there were a lot of people there. She was always friendly and cool under pressure. Thanks, Stephanie!
There’s no wonder Edgar Allen Poe had his last drink here then died. Dreadfully boring and expensive with a bad choice for open mic when I came in. I’d choose the ditch as well.
Haha super cool bar. Lots of wall plates with the coolest quotes, many bars, fast service, good music and very crowded the Friday night we went. We were in Baltimore for the night and went bar hopping and really enjoyed this one. Seems like its been happening for ages, according to the locals!
We went this past Sunday. Very cool bar, music was great and the beers were cold. That’s all I need! We were in for the weekend from St. Louis and our server/bartender Nathan was awesome!!!
Your bouncer cost you 7 customers that will never return again. It’s a shame because this was always one of our favorite spots to visit when we stay in Fells Point.- Another Bar Owner
Talk about customer service from Nate at the bar mixing up amazing cocktails(margarita a must) and then you roll into the most unexpected experience when it comes to the food. Talk about elevated bar food to the next level with Chef Don putting all his passion in everything! A must stop!
Great selection of beer. Kitchen was closed but by what I saw that kitchen must have some great food. Menu is perfect and has a great Baltimore variety.
One of my least favorite bars in Baltimore. It is a spot that I go when friends are in town for the first time and like history. Otherwise, the place has gotten way to crowded and is starting to lose its character. It used to be a fun bar with live music and a place you could go to and hang out and meet people and have fun.It feels like theyre trying to make it more of a club scene now,.
So whether you are from Baltimore or just passing through our great city a must stop by place is The Horse You Came In On Saloon. The minute you walk through the doors the aroma of Jack Daniels hits you along with friendly greetings from an amazing bar staff. You need a minute to take in all the nostalgic theme and history the place offers. They have a wide variety of spirits and beers both bottle and draught to quench your taste buds and pallet. As you move through out the establishment you will visit 3 more bars all themed a little different which makes this place so awesome and cool. They have live music all day in the front of the location and during certain nights they have a DJ in the adjacent bars in the rear of the location.Let’s now move to everyone’s favorite topic the food menu. There are so many items to choose from and unlike other places some are better then others no not the case here they are all equally delicious. The owner Eric has taken his Saloon Kitchen and perfected a menu to suit his bars needs! From the amazing wings to the sliders to daily made homemade salsa and chips for just a few starters. The chef has created amazing entrees that are paired perfectly to give you that wow knock out punch to your taste buds the moment you sink you teeth into any of the food. Just recently they decided to add weekend brunch from 11a-3p with a killer taste bud loving menu. The steak and eggs are a personal favorite of mine but it was hard not to get a second course because of how tasty the brunch menu is especially when they hit you with a suburb Cinnamon French Toast!!! Next on the to try list is the Crab Benedict stay tuned for further reviews!!So if you a native to Baltimore or just in town for few hours swing on through and check out this historical bar in Fells Point. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
Located in the historic Fells Point, I had visited this bar 5 years ago and recently went back for my 2nd trip. Not much has changed other than they blew out a back wall and added in another bar and more standing/sitting area. In total, they now have 4 bars. From what I remember, they had large jugs of pre-mixed Jack Daniels drinks (as this is a Jack Daniels bar), but this time around, they did not have anything pre-mixed and I was told there wasnt a Drink menu. This is an overall fun bar, especially at night, but I came back during the day time for the Live Music and Jack Daniels drinks. For those reasons, I wasnt entirely thrilled with my visit this time around. The Bartender was not helpful with explaining their Jack Daniels drinks, especially as I was under the impression that this was their specialty. I was also upset since I found out as I was leaving there was a drink menu available.Overall, the bar would get 5 stars, but this time around is was only a 3 star experience. The live music is always great and the drinks are normally well worth the visit.
Great spot for a cold beer during a day off sightseeing ... After riding around on the water taxi, it was nice to stop a minute. The neighborhood is just lovely! Ms. Beth down the street at Zelda Zen, told us this was the oldest saloon in the USA! I dont doubt it ... Housed in a colonial era building with cobblestone streets ... Oh the history!!
Ive only been here on Fri-Sat nights. Its a decent bar with good bartenders and it has different sections with different vibes. Drinks are overpriced (~$6 for a Miller light) and they have 2 of my least favorite things: a bathroom attendant and a no-hat policy.
Love the atmosphere and live music. Food and drinks were top notch. Definitely looking forward to a return visit when we are in the area.
If I could give zero rating I would. Terrible service, stole money for no gain. My experience went as follows- walked in looking to celebrate friends birthday, so I got up the the bar and requested a beer. Bartender told me itd be $5, so I took out $6, and handed her $5, then waited for my beer. 20 minutes went by, and Id have assumed it was too packed if not for the fact that several people around me were helped, and left, in that timeframe. So I started trying to get her attention, and she made eye contact, ran over, and said no tip no service I told her *waving extra dollar* that I cant tip on services that arent rendered, and requested that I just have my beer, its been 30 minutes now (looking to get a Budweiser by the way, not even worth $5 for a single beer, but it is a bar). So after about 40 minutes, having asked 3 other bartenders, and seeing if anyone else was seeing this happen, she had security escort me out (which I have to say was a pretty nice guy, didnt get aggressive or unprofessional, simply sighed and came to walk me out). So while walking out he apologized, and said I probably shouldve tried to hit another bar. Unfortunately, its a bar, so Im going to rate it based on services rendered, and food/drink quality. Well I was never given the opportunity to sample food or drink, and the only service rendered by any of the staff was being escorted out so the one bartender could steal my money. So at the very least, the security showed compassion and professionalism, while the rest of the staff seemed pretty stuck up and unprofessional.*Note- I hadnt even been able to check out the other bars or rooms, all of this happened trying to get my first beer of the bar right off the bat. So I cannot speak for the attitude and service rendered in the other bars inside, only the first one*
I do like this place but I feel that it would be nice if the music could have more of a variety of genres! This isnt something necessarily the theyre fault but alot of drinks get spilled on the floors so the floors are super slippery. Other than that, I must say Security has been stepping it up lately!
Tacos were great. Decent selection of beer and high end liquor choices. Live music was excellent and 3 bars with darts and a pool table. Lots of history, this was a great accidental find for us.
Amazing bar/pub! Great atmosphere, amazing staff and great beer selection.
Fantastic atmosphere, the live music was pretty loud and it got crowded later in the night but its a great spot to hang out early in the evening.
