A lovely venue that balances the sense of party and intimacy. I went here with a treasured friend not expecting anything but then we were served tasty drinks and also a lovely jazz set replete with some guest jams and also an entertaining performer. The atmosphere was lulling and it made some people in the corner dance and kiss in merriment. As I was enjoying the performance, I was also thinking of all the many decisions in my life and I feel that gentle realisation that I am leading a good life. I reach out to the hands of my friend and he reached back. The words to Come Away With Me reverberated from the microphone. I am happy.
Elephant Room was a surprisingly fun Jazz Club. We went for the Monday night jam session and were pleasantly surprised by the great music. The house was packed, but we didnt have to wait long. We actually had a table, and the service was great they definitely come check on you often to make sure that you dont need anything else. Side note they have these really cool giant Square ice cubes. In general, it was cool vibes and a great crowd. I would definitely go back to visit and recommend.
Elephant Room is a true gem for jazz lovers. Even though there was a long line to get in, once inside, the staff was attentive and stopped by our table almost immediately. Located in the basement of the Swift Building in Austin, this venue offers incredible jazz music 365 nights a year. While they dont serve food, they have a solid selection of over 20 draft beers and wines by the glass. I stuck to my favorite, whiskey on ice with a splash of ginger ale. Parking can be a bit tricky, even with the nearby paying lots, but its worth it for the experience.
A very cool, chill place to let go and relax to the music. When I went, the NOW Jazz Orchestra was playing, lucky me! They play every fourth Wednesday, and well, are worth getting into your plans for the week.Drinks are very reasonable and service is on top of everything.Hint: get there early! Seats fill up fast and there arent a whole lot of them. So get there at least 30 mins early, order a drink, get a seat at a table and enjoy the warm up before the show!!
@tollivertravelsFood & Drink: Enjoyed the sparkling water & the Manhattan. I dont think they serve food.Ambiance: Dark and moody. Feels like New York. Get there early to snag good seating near the front.Kid friendly: definitely not. Pretty sure its 21 and over.Service: Summer is awesome and so was everyone else that helped us. Love this place!
It was late late at night and we caught the last of this awesome Jazz Bar sharing some talented musicians to give our Austin experience a grande finale! Great place Elegant Room and Crew well done. Serving choice liquors with an authentic popping vibe! No food for us so thats hard to rate. Thanks many
Great place for live jazz. It’s a small venue so recommend arriving early so you can get a good seat. If you arrive after the performance starts, there could be a wait. Just walk to the Corner bar for a drink and a seat will probably open up when you’re finished. Service can be a bit slow but the music is great!
In Austin for the weekend and I knew I had to catch some great music. There isnt much in the way of jazz in my city so I picked the Elephant Room as my top must do this trip. It did not disappoint! We arrived a little after 9 and had to wait for about 30 minutes to get in. A few key things to know:$7 cover will be added to your tab, dont worry about it at the doorIts a small venue and few tables have a good view of the stageDrinks are strong! And very tasty. We stuck with the Jazz Juice all night.
We went here on a Monday night when the house band played, led by John Blondell, who played bass. The band was a jazz quintet and they were excellent. Two things stood out for me: 1) Blondells chops on bass were more than just the average bassist. After the show I introduced myself to Blondell and asked if he was a studio musician to which he replied yes. Blondell is also proficient on trombone. 2) The trumpeter was an elderly gentleman named Dr. Jim Hart. Hart was dressed to the nines, spry, engaging, and a very good vocalist as well, not to mention the chops on his horn were very good.My wife and I are not drinkers so we had soft drinks. Food is not served here although they allow food to be brought in. We went to Coopers Old Time Barbeque and had dinner while the band played.I highly recommend the Elephant Room!
The jazz club has always been a gem, known for its vibrant atmosphere and exceptional music. However, it recently underwent a transformation that elevated the entire experience.Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by the person at the front, who not only welcomed me but also quickly found a table for me. This small change made a big difference in the overall service. The staff seemed more attentive and eager to ensure that every guest had a fantastic time. The music, as always, was top-notch, but now, with the improved service, the entire evening felt even more special.I highly recommend this jazz club to anyone looking for a night of great music and excellent service. The recent improvements have truly taken it to the next level.
A unique cellar setting bar with a few tables. Greeted by a friendly bouncer who informed us the Cover charge would be included in our drink tab. The waiter was accommodating as we moved tables 3 times trying to position ourselves closer to the tiny stage. The drinks were good. Dont remember a food option. 🤔They had every night of the week scheduled with jazz musicians from a calendar listed on the back side of the bar menu.
My boyfriend and I had a glorious date night during the 9pm set. The music was amazing, the vibe was immaculate and the drinks were fantastic. Music wasn’t too loud over our conversations either.Would suggest getting there around 9pm or just before for seating since there was a wait for seating at tables right by after we arrived.
Awesome spot. Perfect for date night. Best dirty gin martini I’ve had in town. Atmosphere is low key but sophisticated. Place fills up on a Monday night but they’ll get you in as soon as seats open up. We’ll definitely be back.
In Austin downtown heart, a really very cool place to enjoying the best Jazz music. The best Austin musicians play here!If you arrive before 8pm it’s free admission! After that a little fee admission! It’s one the of cheapest places do see good live music in Austin. On the weekends they have a lot o all star musicians!Come to the Austin Jazz Basement!
I came here with my friends on the 4th of July and it was wonderful! The Smokin’ Tony cocktail was delicious. The music, Ephraim Quartet, was well balanced. The atmosphere was cool temperature wise and decor. The Elephant Room was a perfect way to round out a day in Austin. Depending on what kind of day/evening you’re having, consider going to the Austin Toy Museum and Arcade before hand. Swift’s Attic is nearby, too. In case you want to hit up some totally Austin spots.
Not a good place if you really want to see the stage. Got there by 9pm and the only table available was far back in the corner. You gotta be there around by 7:45 to get a good table that you can actually see the performance. Including the gratuity fee for the stage, the drinks are not even that cheap. For $12 drink, I paid over 20
I just had maybe one of the best night out in austin since I moved here and I honestly wish I could stay longer!! Summer gave me great service!! Normally I only order one drink andi tonight i got three as a treat!! I even had a espresso martini with buron and the one she picked was one of my favorite places, Kentucky for burbon!! I had come by to see the ut guys play and I love coming here too see them!!!I actually wish I can stay even longer!!
An amazing live music venue where the music is the main attraction. Limited seating with one out one in between sets, which keeps the atmosphere intimate and not crowded. Theres actually a no standing room policy. Theres no food service, but we were allowed to bring in food purchased from a nearby food truck. We bought a bottle of wine and had an amazing time. Got to chat with musicians between sets. And did I mention no cover on Sunday! So be sure to tip the musicians for their art!!!
Visiting Austin and caught some jazz at the Elephant Room on a Thursday night. Really liked the entertainment. Good traditional jazz. The venue itself is fine except the customers got pretty loud. Didnt bother us too much since we were able to get a table in the front but if wed sat in the back, I probably wouldve been put off.
One of the best basement jazz hideouts in the world! The jazz musicians Ive experienced are real pros, the service and drinks are excellent. Sit in the front if youre a real jazz afficianado because those seats are for listening. Sit toward the back if you think jazz is background music for a conversation. Well worth it!
Hidden gem in the heart of Austin! This bad is super fun, it feels like an old tavern, almost like going back in time. They have Jazz music every night seems like, and it’s free until 8pm. On weekends they charge a little bit but it’s just pennies when the music is amazing. Definitely a place to check out and enjoy some beer.Only downside, they didn’t have many cocktails to choose from.
Staff 5/5Service and drinks 5/5Music experience 1/5Music experience if youre seated in front 4/5Great place, Great music. But alas, they do not take reservations. So no guarantee where youll get seated. For us, we were seated towards the back. Couldnt hear anything. Most of the patrons arent here for the music. So everything is drowned out in personal conversations. If youre in the very front then have a chance of listening in. But still will be plagued by loud conversations.Again, Great place. But not if youre here for Jazz.
Elephant Room is located in downtown Austin. This underground bar rotates bands that showcase different styles of jazz every day.The limited seats in front of the band fill up quickly, so its recommended to arrive a few minutes early before the bar opens to secure a good spot. Otherwise, you may have to wait in a long queue to enjoy the show. The cocktail I ordered was ok. But I was impressed with their excellent selection of locally brewed beers from Austin. The variety of options available was great, and includes a few my favourite breweries.Overall, Elephant Room offers a great vibe. I think it can be one of your jazz bar options in Austin.
Drink prices are too high. They also charge you by the shot plus an additional 50% markup for a mixer of any kind. Price for a Single Ranch Water is $10 for the shot plus $5 for the club soda and lime juice. If you order a double the price goes to $20 for the shots plus $10 for club soda and lime juice. Servers are relatively indifferent towards you but they dont mind defaulting you to 22% tip which is fine if the service was less Dirty 6th and more uptown(yes i tipped the 22% despite getting less-than service). Is this really the new downtown Austin pricing and service??Otherwise, the bands are excellent but the vibe isnt quite old Austin like the Elephant Room used to represent. I was hoping to rate 5 stars overall but I just dont think thats suitable. Only the interior and bands are 5 stars but other aspects bring the rating down for me.
Really great vibe for a basement jazz bar. This place feels very authentic for the vibe that they are going for. Just be careful! The homeless guy outside will try to get you to pay cover which isn’t the case lol.Great music and drinks are reasonable. Staff are great and if you wanna cash out, it’s quick!
If you like hip/subdued basement jazz vibes this is your cup of tea. Ive always had a fun time hearing love musicians and drinking from a very upscale selection of quality cocktails and beer/wine.Lets just say I travelled over an hour to come here many times. Ill keep doing so.
Very focused on doing great things. Excellent music, they are very careful on the quality of sound they deliver, continuously adjusting sound. Drink are good too. Food? No. But you can bring your own so that also good
Jazz room located in the heart of Austin downtown. Perfect sound volume, lighting level, and good wine list. There is no food, so plan to go before or after dinner. They have 2 concerts a night.
This was top of my list to visit when we were Austin, so we of course went twice. Though quite crowded, service was pretty quick given the crowd, and drinks were tasty. Music both nights was enjoyable.
Not a tourist-friendly place, but maybe with a trained doorman it could improve. The website says “first come, first served”, but the doorman (who was chatting at a table and not watching the door), yelled at two petite ladies that they couldn’t come in and would have to wait behind the door. They weren’t regulars and would have to wait instead of looking for seats.Maybe he’s just a sad person who doesn’t get the Fri-Sat shift and has to work on Sundays, or maybe he’s just poorly trained. If he was my doorman, I probably would have fired him on the spot. Either way, he’s made it clear that tourists and outsiders aren’t welcome here. Best to just find somewhere else for live music.
We were in town for Valentines Day and stopped by the Elephant Room on a recommendation from a friend. We were greeted by a friendly doorman who when we could not find a table due to the crowd was kind enough to get us one right up front. The Elephant Room isnt nearly the size of some of the Jazz clubs in KC but it had a cozy vibe and the band playing that night was excellent. We stayed until they finished playing near closing time. Our drinks were good and not watered down so a tip of the hat to the bartender on duty that night. We recommend visiting the Elephant Room whenever you are looking for a jazz club or intimate spot to enjoy live music. We did not get any food so I did not choose any stars, there should be a N/A choice.
Great OG Austin spot for jazz in a relaxed atmosphere. The Elephant Room is named aptly for when mammoth bones were discovered during excavation of the newer high rise building next door.
I’ve been here multiple times. Met the owner and never had a problem. Tonight I came in and grabbed a drink. The energy of “Tristian” the “manager” felt like he was on a racist trip. I had one minute to finish my glass of wine so he says so-I respond in an excitement way of a “yes one minute to hang” to finish up. He gets offended or somewhat and maybe thinks I’m being smart? But wasn’t and says actually we have to leave. He has an attitude and continues to say we have to leave and takes a photo of me without my concent while I say I have been to this spot many times and never had a problem. I work downtown in the service industry and had always recommended this spot. After tonight I will NEVER RECOMMEND THIS RACIST SPOT EVER!!!!!!!!!I appreciate the response but I will not edit any of the review. No discrimination comments were made but the energy in the room shifted into that realm. While he approached me differently while other customers were enjoying their last drink of the night; but we had to leave? Energy is energy.
Boy is this place overrated.I was recommended to come here on a visit to Austin. Came by pretty early on a Saturday and talked to the host, who seemed a bit grumpy and found out 1. there’s no food served and 2. There’s usually a long wait when the band starts.Ok fine, went to get a bite and came back. Waited 30-40 mins to get in this time. Finally reached the front and got seated by the host in the back corner of the bar. Couldn’t see and could hardly hear the band.First thing the bartender does is snap at me that I took somebody’s seat and need to give it back.Umm.. no I was seated here by the host.At that point I was done and walked out, no sense paying a cover for a band you can’t enjoy and harassment from the staff. From what I heard standing in line the band seemed pretty good, shame I couldn’t enjoy it. Maybe it’s the best club in Austin but by national standards it’s not good.
The acoustics in this venue was great, we enjoyed the sounds of Now Jazz Orchestra. This a band you must see!!! The drinks were strong I enjoyed the side car, it was well balanced!
This is one of the very few places 500 miles around that has a good jazz every day.A cabaret-style environment, how they make this long concrete tube to sound good is a mystery.Yet! Every evening, rain or shine, there is jazz. One of the few places that keep Austin genuinely alive.Come visit and listen!
This spot is a must. Its open late and its a really dope vibe. It feels like the jazz clubs in NYC from the downstairs entrance to the brick walls. I went on a Wednesday and it was free to get in. The weekend has a $5 cover and frankly its worth it. The staff is friendly and the drinks are good. The jazz quartet did some covers and some original pieces. Im a huge fan of authentic jazz and they fit the bill. This is spot I will make sure to visit whenever Im in Austin.
The place was pretty cool. Like an old school speakeasy. Service was a little slow, but not unbearable. They had a line, and we had to wait for about 30 minutes. But all in all, Id definitely come back and recommend that others give it a try.
Elephant Room never disappoints! Its the first jazz club that I started going to when I was in my 20s, and where I fell in love with jazz. Im now in my 40s, and the Elephant Room is still my favorite jazz club in Austin, Texas!
One of the best places I’ve discovered in the city. Most lovely on the weekends and Mondays. The Ambiance of the place is unmatched. The jazz music sets up the mood just right to relax on the weekend. The staff is very polite and makes sure you enjoy every second here. A lot of seating is available but it still gets very busy on the weekends and you might end up waiting for around 10-15 mins if you’re a couple or 30 mins if it’s a bigger group. But, highly recommended to visit if you’re new to the city and finding a place. You’d love it!
We were walking back from the Congress street bridge, after the bats were a no show. While passing this establishment, it was clear everyone was having a blast, so we went in. We sat right next to the stage. The man sitting next to us was a retired neurosurgeon, who was also a gifted jazz musician. He had organized a night of 100 musicians. They rotated in and out of the band. The music was awesome and the atmosphere even better! It didn’t hurt that the drinks were creative and amazing, and were not expensive. I recommend the spicy margarita. We had planned to stay an hour or two. We finally started to leave, and noticed we were there for almost five hours! I love when a place is so good you get lost inside.
Turned away at the door by the scraggly old doorman who wanted to flex nuts because my wife (who is in her 40s) didn’t have ID on her. It was over half empty and pretty dead inside anyway, so we probably didn’t miss much.
Great historic venue!!! How are the Dirty Martinis not on the menu??? Their housemade brine is SO good. Best dirtys ever!
Listening Michael Malone is always a wonderful experience. The atmosphere of the Elephant is dependent on how much the audience is yaking it up.
Great music. Cool vibe, if you are with a group. The place is long and narrow, so not much of a view of the performers.
When in Austin during SXSW, this little joint is a must. Hidden in the basement with good vibes. Live bands and drinks always soothes the soul.UPDATED REPLY: During these times of a pandemic, there isnt too much to be done in a small venue and expecting to be socially distant with sanitized measures taken. Cheers to the doorman, waiters, and bartenders cause the struggle is really real!SN: Yall Please Dont Forget A #TexasSizeTip!!!**SXSW 2023** It was back to being Elephant Room long line and a packed house. Friendly patient doormen and bartenders making good libations. Awesome varieties of jazz bands. The vibe felt like the good ole times before the pandemic. 🤗🤗
The Elephant Room underwent needed subtle changes in recent years. Tables near the front have reminders to keep the noise down and just generally be civilized so the music dominates. In the back, talk all you want. No food here very reasonably priced booze and non alcohol, good beer selection. One of the spiritual homes of great Austin jazz.
Great music, great atmosphere! Bands play from 6 pm - 1 am Mon-Fri, 9 pm - 1 am Sat, and 8pm to midnight on Sun. Finding seating isnt too hard on work nights (Sun-Thu), but Fri and Sat, youll either want to make a reservation or get there by 8:00 to get a table, otherwise you may have to wait in line outside for a few minutes.Parking-wise, youll probably have to walk a few blocks, since this place is in the heart of downtown off 3rd and Congress, so finding parking right next to it can be tricky!
Found it to be quite overcrowded/ potentially overbooked on a weeknight. Drinks were good and so was the service. Atmosphere made me feel like I was at an old jazz bar, I loved it. Just wish it wasnt so cramped.
An Austin classic spot for Jazz. If you havent been, than youre missing out. No cover before 8 pm, so come early and stay late!
Came to the Elephant Room over the weekend. Loved the environment, the crowd and of course the music. The waitress who served us was very nice and recommended a very good drink. Get there early to get a good spot or youll find yourself waiting on the steps until someone leaves. They can get to capacity pretty fast. Its downtown Austin so expect to search for parking. Cozy basement vibes.
If your looking for some good jazz this is a great stop. Awesome club, exactly what we were looking for.
Awesome live jazz in a very chill atmosphere. The wait staff was incredibly nice and friendly. There are about 20 beers on tap and a few well made cocktails. It is nice to sit back, drink, and listen to the jazz or even sit in the back and converse with friends while drinking with jazz in the background.
Cozy place to go during the weekend, my friend and I went here on Sunday and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and jazz performances. Highly recommend the stone walls give it a time period feel and I love it.
Was there for the music. The guy that works the door....wasnt very nice. Band was great !!! Great atmosphere!!!!
Very cool jazz club with great music and ambience. Good beer selection as well.
We were looking for a laid back bar in the downtown area to listen to some live music, and this hit the spot. There was a local jazz band playing and they absolutely killed it. The band was walking around between sets meeting customers and I even heard one of the band members asking if there was anything the couple next to us wanted to hear. Super cool to see that type of stuff.I would definitely come back when in Austin and looking for some good jazz
Amazing place! I actually thought they went out of business during covid. I was very pleasantly surprised to find them not only open, but packed!Like all good things in Austin, its overloved. Expect a wait.
Good vibe overall. Good mix of people and music - solid representation of Austin’s “keep it weird”.
They have a cover charge after 8pm of $7. Not a huge selection of coctails but they have some wines and beers. Have music at night.
Fantastic place. Amazing music. We saw the AMAZING band.. The Paper Moon Shiners during happy hour. Stayed until closing. Second band was also geat. Awesome staff . Delicious cocktails. Just one of the best nights ever. Im from Houston but will definitely be going back to Austin just for this place. Worth all the copious amounts of cash I spent. ;)
I don’t want to leave a review because it’d be great to keep this a secret. Great drinks. Awesome music. Wonderful ambiance. Just a great spot overall. Live band stops at 1am but you can hang until 2. Will return.
Just a great vibe with fantastic music every time. Small and can be very busy, but I frequent this establishment for a reason.
The Elephant room is a long standing Austin tradition for Jazz aficionados. It has several cool factors, the first being that it is in the heart of downtown. Its in a basement which may sound odd but that adds to the charm. Its very cozy, intimate, and unpretentious. They bring in some great Jazz musicians. If you like Jazz, youve gotta check this place out.
Cozy room with quite a few tables with live music playing. We came with some friends on a Friday night, $7 cover fee that was added to the tab. Drinks were great, service was okay but considering how busy it was I wouldnt really expect anything else. The tables closest to the band did have signs saying that they were for listening and to limit talking if you were sitting there. Will definitely be going back.
This place is small and later in the evening, particularly on weekends, gets packed quickly. We got in for the first live jazz set around 6P so not a problem with seating. We had drinks served by friendly staff and very much enjoyed the music. We did not try any food items as we were going to dinner immediately afterwards. We will be back.
Way too pretentious for their own good. Extremely rude service. Waited over an hr to get in just to be met with rude servers/staff and over priced watered down drinks. Additionally my wife and sister were aggressively told that if they didnt sit down that they would be kicked out. Seems rediculous for a Live Jazz bar.I understand not having enough space/fire standards but they were standing to the side out of the way and the band was giving them the thumbs up and were clearly enjoying the encouragement. I feel like maybe they should rethink the concept and space. The atmosphere is beautiful and the live music is amazing, as it is hard to find good live Jazz it is a shame the staff is just plain rude and aggressive.
It is one of the best speakeasies bars I went to in Austin. They have live jazz music. This place is classy and the experience here was rich.
Saw The Brew (Latin jazz band) at the Elephant Room. The Brew is an excellent band, theyve been playing in the Austin area for several years. The Elephant Room is a cozy underground venue with surprisingly good acoustics. We arrived early enough to get a table. The place fills up quickly. Both the bar & table service were good. Good drinks. Nice selection of draft & bottled beer.
Know that the place is amazing, the music and atmosphere are one of a kind and the drinks are memorable, but theres no food.
This is the quintessential underground Jazz experience. Limited seating small room dim lighting good drinks and a good band. Definitely make this a stop on your list. I didnt rate food because we didnt have any
One of the most iconic places in Austin for live jazz. It’s always my first stop in town. They get the cities top talent.
Elephant Room is an Austin classic for a reason! Fabulous music, wonderful atmosphere, and gracious hospitality. Elephant Room boasts an amazing jazz music experience while you relax in an environment permeated with Austins low-key, down-to-earth vibes. Love it!
Great place for Jazz, Blues & locals + Greats! Excellent Bartenders and overall fun, speakeasy atmosphere. Downstairs so limited to being able to navigate stairs. Tables and bar seats. Didnt try Food, just Margaritas & Cider.
New rule: When you see musicians going down stairs to a bar, follow them. Cellar dive with an awesome jazz vibe. We had an excellent evening of fun music with the Boss Street Brass Band. Bring your own food if youre hungry (food trucks right across the street). The owner/host was very welcoming, and the bartenders were on top of their game and attentive. Highly recommended.
Awful customer experience from the jump! Ive been 2 times now and there is no reservation thus if its at capacity you have to wait the line. OK cool no reservation ok cool but whats not cool is if its the right white man and his lady apparently they can cut the line. Ive seen it 2 times blatant questionable behavior 🤔 from the front folks. Get some integrity Elephant room, you jumped that spark for that $$$.
The room doesnt seem like its built for an acoustic performance, but i have no complaints about the spund. Sitting up front can rattle your teeth but only makes you really feel a part of the experience. I sat in the back, and the sound was actually really good. The jazz was great, the drinks were good. But you need to be there an hour before a performance starts to get a good seat. Maybe even sooner if possible. And once you have the seats you better hold em. There was a line out the door of people waiting for someone to leave so they could come in. Its a must visit at least once kinda place, especially if you live in the area. I met people from Houston that drove all the way just for the jazz band. Its the real deal.
Fabulous service, care, and entertainment! After learning of my husbands inability to access the venue in his wheelchair due to a problem with the elevator, we received calls and texts from the manager the next morning assuring us that the elevator was being repaired and inviting us back. We were met outside and escorted to the best table in the house where we enjoyed two excellent jazz shows. Finally, to our surprise, our drinks were complimentary! A manager then saw us safely back out of the building. We were blown away at all of the effort taken to make up for the initial mishap. Managers Aaron, Dario, Ross, and waitstaff were all excellent.
Sarah and her Cats was the slickest Jazz act Ive seen in years, far from a jam session, every song was meticulously arranged with profound subtlety and sublime grace. Tuesday nights you too can catch the best Jazz Cats in Texas. The drinks were good too, But they could have served me sewer water and I still would have been happy listening to that master class of jazz arrangement.
Wonderful jazz bar with live music every night. Able to visit on a Sunday which wasnt too crowded and no cover. Friday/Saturday you can expect a line down the street. The cocktails were very tasty and the atmosphere was great.
The Elephant Room sign is small and barely lit, couldnt find it at first. You enter a glass door that leads you downstairs to the actual jazz spot. Really neat seemed like it was hidden. Almost like a cellar then again they do serve wine haha. Lights are dimmed, live band playing, many choices of wine. We requested Malbec a red wine from Argentina. If I could add a small video clip of how awesome the ambience was, I so would! Not bad at all for a Tuesday evening!
Omg! This place was awesome. If you love music youll love this place, I think I can even come by in my own. If you go at around 8 or 9 pm youll be in a line waiting but its very worth the wait.. youll be waiting around 10 to 35 min depending on the line of course. I absolutely love it.. I will be returning..
Best jazz bar in Austin!I went on Friday and it was amazing. Wanted to go back Saturday, but unfortunately wasn’t feeling well, and Sunday I found it closed :( if I go back to Austin, I’ll go to the elephant room 3 nights in a row! 5 stars!House wine, not my favorite. What kind of wine is it?
Careful with credit card charges ive been overcharged there twice other than that great place. UPDATE so sorry they do hold a charge but then remove it, great communication from owner by the way. Also like to mention that this place is Iconic to Austin went to a concert and the Artist mentioned it and his band member actually got on stage and jammed. This is a must if youre visiting Austin.
The house brine for their dirty martinis is absolutely delicious! There was also an amazing jazz band (Michael Malone’s NuJazzSwing) playing when I went, so I highly recommend checking out the events calendar.
Anytime in Austin, the Elephant Room is always a must stop. In a town famous for its live music scene the Elephant Room stands out for all the right reasons. Anytime someone imagines what the vibe of a small intimate jazz or blues club should be theyd be describing exactly what youll experience at the Elephant Room.
This bar has been home base for us every night we have been in Austin. From Matthew making sure we have had a table every night, to Rosss impeccable service, we have been constantly delighted. The house brine for the martinis is amazing and hands down the best dirty gin Martini I have had in years, if not ever! Can not recommend this spot enough. Great jazz bands and friendly service for the win. (Almost hate leaving this as Im afraid if everyone knows about this spot it will always been too packed to get in!) Shout out to Jason behind the bar as well!
One of the coolest places in Austin. Extreme Heat was excellent.
Its cold there so bring a light jacket. Get there before 8pm if you want to get in and have a seat.
Classic dive bar with live Jazz. The B3 player was amazing!
Ive tried to find a jazz club like this in Tokyo, Stockholm, NYC, etc and Im not sure theres another. There are some absolutely top notch venues like the Village Vanguard that are still going strong, but theres just a laid back vibe at Elephant Room that cant be beat. Low or no cover instead of having to buy a multi course meal or concert ticket. The cell phone signal crushing basement. The ability to chat in the back or shut up and listen up front. Acts every day. Not sure if they do open mic anymore but I used to love that. Go late.
Great jazz bar. Both bands were incredible. Bartender made a great old fashioned. Good ambiance.
Great place for jazz music! The service is very efficient and its a great ambiance. Drink menu includes draft cocktails, signature cocktails and beers. No food here. We arrived early and left around 1am. We came in and chose a table with a stage view. They have an area where you would not be able to see th stage but they have a TV live streaming the stage so you dont miss anything. There is a cover charge after 8p on Friday and Saturday that will be added to your check. If you get there before 8p and are still there after, it will be added to your check as well. There is also free wifi. At some point, around 9p-10p, there was a line to get in.
The best place for jazz in Austin! Been around forever, and is exactly what I think of when I imagine what a jazz bar might look and feel like.
Very sweet bartender working there, made sure all our needs were met while we were enjoying the live music. Cool atmosphere, make sure to bring a sweater!
First the bad news. You couldn’t pick a venue with worse sight lines. There are support beams that cut the stage in half. The good news is the sound is fine and the musicianship is first rate. The Thursday happy hour trio of Tres Musicos is first rate without a cover. Really? Pass the tip jar, please.
The go to Jazz bar for good music and a great atmosphere.
Great vibes, great music, great place to meet new friends.
The music was amazing, air was cold, prices ok
Ok we got here early and had a 40 minute wait with about a hundred people behind us. Basement bar with absolutely horrible decor. Unless you are seated up front, the noise of non jazz lovers kills any vibe. Moved closer which was nice. Now I can truly say they did not play not one classic. I would put them on par with a warm up band. They are not ready for Kansas City or Memphis or a major, but it is Texas.
Underground jazz bar w/ local talent very accommodating with seating and service was excellent. The music was great!
Very fun and cozy spot to grab a drink and listen to great live music. Make sure to bring cash for tipping the live act and I recommend not sitting directly in the front unless you would like interaction with the performers.
I absolutely loved this place. What a vibe!! Band was great, drinks were great. So happy they were open on Christmas Eve.
Cool basement jazz club. Dark, moody, not too loud with a pretty good jazz band. Drinks were good, atmosphere was light, great way to end our last night in Austin. From the outside there isnt anything to see but a few signs and the name in neon in a window that barely shows at sidewalk level. You almost feel like you are walking into a hidden joint going down the stairs. Check it out, no pressure, just people hanging out and enjoying some good music.
This place is not even convenient for playing live music physically. I didn’t like it🙂↔️
Our favorite underground jazz bar! Such a great place to see jazz performances and its a small environment for those that dont like big crowds but is very comfortable and the musicians have been fantastic! And they serve great drinks!
This is the ideal place for jazz lovers. Jazz is still alive and kicking here! We had to wait about 20 minutes for a table but well worth it. Small cover and reasonable drink prices but we came for jazz and we were not disappointed. Low lite downstairs room that contributes to the vibe.
Great local spot for some funky live music
Fantastic time. Low key establishment. Fun music. Great drinks and service. No food. Would go back in a second.
Great place to go if youre looking for live jazz. They also have a good variety of cocktails that you have to try
Nice atmosphere, no cover on a Monday night. We arrived between the early and late shows. What little music we did hear, it was good jazz! Our only complaint: too much darn chatter from the guests while the ensembles were playing.
Music was great, they were definitely experts in jazz! The waitress Aurora was very friendly and suggested amazing non-alcoholic drinks!
Definitely one of the best spots in Austin to hear and see incredible musicians play live. I love how intimate it is. Its always a good vibe.
Amazing band! Manager will not let you dance to the music! This is crazy! You should be able to enjoy yourself and your friends and dance with those around you enjoying the music! Despite Fire Marshall rules they should nicely tell you to move over, out of the aisle and enjoy yourself with the people youre with! Manager was a complete a******! I will never go back there again!😡😡😡
This was my first visit back in 18 years and I still LOVE this place! Amazing ambiance and entertainment. The service was top notch as well. I will definitely keep going back.
I felt like I was at home in Chicago !The service was great, the music was great and even the audience members we talked with were great. I will always visit The Elephant Room when I’m in Texas….. I stay in a town south of Austin, but Austin is a quick 1hr.ride north…. and definitely worth the drive.
We tried Tuesday evening to a disabled elevator in gaining access to the Elephant Room, so we left a review. To our surprise, we had messages from the manager and GM, promised to repair elevator and invited us back. We were treated to the best seats in the house and a clear ticket buying our drinks for Wednesday evening. To say Sherrell and I were blown away is an understatement!Thank you Elephant Room, we are already planning our next trip!
We love the elephant room! What a cool place to visit a basement off Congress to listen to some cool jazz music. His place is very intimate and can get loud. If you want to talk Id suggest sitting further away from the stage. Youre into the music and just want to watch and listen, head up front. Good selection of drinks and the staff is nice and friendly.
How many times can you keep coming to a place and it never disappoints!Tonight was no exception!Only a $5 cover for Saturday night and live jazz!!This band was right on point! Such a cozy atmosphere, just be quick to find a seat or make friends like we did and ask to join a table with free chairs!Craft beer and full bar, a little tight at the bar to get a drink, but once we found a seat, the waitstaff did a great job taking care of everyone.A wonderful date night for sure!!
The music and atmosphere was great. The service, not so much.In response to Aaron:I went there and ordered drinks from the bar and waited for 10 minutes without exaggeration. It got to the point where I wanted to see how long it would take. I was obviously forgotten about. Which is fine, Im pretty forgettable. Then the door man offered us another drink after our glasses had been empty for some time. It wasnt particularly busy, I was just in the wrong place. Like I said, the music and atmosphere were great and i would go back based on that, just need to be a bit more attentive. the drinks I received were quality. The older bartender eventually took care of us.
I regularly attend the elephant rims early show from 6 to 8:45 to hear those Sarah sharp quartet they are so theyre real big songs with their own special twist, the vibe is ineluctable and extremely full of serendipity....💖
Fun vibe with good drinks and great music. $7 cover per person on Saturday. Not sure if it varies by day or musician.Sat in the middle of the shotgun-style bar and found it difficult to have a conversation without leaning in to speak every word. May be better towards the back, but theres a line that forms and a host that directs you to the table, so its luck of the draw. I actually prefer this setup so that Im not stressing about trying to find a place to sit. Will definitely be back.
Great band, good service, rude audience. Not a listening room but more like a loud bar with jazz. Would go back hoping to get a more respectful audience.
Live jazz by talented musicians! Amazing!
No food options, only drinks. Live music is great. The band that played was amazing. Service was nice.
