This establishment is huge! Their big seller are their wood fired pizzas. We sat out on the patio which overlooks the river. It was a beautiful view.My inlaws and I had the Cuban sandwich. It was just ok in my opinion in comparison to an authentic Cuban sandwich. My wife had what I believe was called the Big Greek pizza and absolutely loved it.Our service was pretty mediocre. Focus seemed to be on other tables as we waited a while to get our food order in.We also found that it was just down the river walk from an amphitheater which had a free concert. So that was a fun find after dinner and a beautiful walk.
Terrible management! We tried to come in and poor hostess didn’t know what to do! When we checked in they couldn’t seat us, which would have been totally fine, but they didn’t have a wait set up and couldn’t give us any info about how long/when/if we could sit down. The girl at the front was very nice but we asked if we could talk to a manager to just figure out how long the wait is and there was no manager to be found. We ended up going next door and had a delicious meal. Very disappointed and they should definitely work on their management.
We used to come here frequently previous years and food was excellent, now not at all. Food was honestly the worst I have had at the lake. Food was cold, reheated mac and cheese for the kids. Chicken was dry and cold, sodas were flat. You can definitely get a better sub at Sheetz. Terrible bar food. Will not be coming back to this place again. $140 wasted.
Food was okay nothing special and a bit overpriced. Service was lacking and had to ask multiple times for things. We had an infant had to ask 4 times for a high chair before they brought it and was unable to get a second beer. Fries were the best out of everything we ordered and Cheesesteak and Burgers were decent. Restaurant was loud and the staff slammed the sliding door multiple times which should have just been left open given how hot it was inside.
Terrible service experience. We sat and waited for just a pitcher of water for 1 hour. And then an additional hour for our food because they forgot to put our order in. Our tables were also soaking wet and not clean. One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a while.
This is a good casual bar and grill place to eat. I had the crab cake sandwich and it was really good. My wife had asked for a medium rare BBQ burger but got a medium well done one without sauce. It did have good flavor though. Next time well work on the communication a bit more.
Would not recommend. The food was simply terrible bar food.I ordered fish, bake potatoe, and veggies, I couldnt even eat the potato as it tasted terrible, the fish was ok, and the veggies came right from a frozen bag Im sure. Our waitress was kind. Looking around its just dirty and if its visibly dirty out in the eating area I dont want to imagine the kitchen area. Good music is what drew us in but would never return.
Food was perfectly fine, I was a bit disapointed in the beer selection. It had an okay atmosphere with plenty of outdoor seating. Service was good, but otherwise nothing remarkable about the experience. I can recomend it as a decent place to eat. I ordered the Napalm burger but wthought it was bretty mild.
Great food and great prices! The entertainment was great as well. The only issue was that it took awhile just to get our drinks and there were a few things on the menu that were unavailable.
Lively spot with decent drink prices, only about five minutes away from the Wisp ski resort. There was a $5 cover charge for the nightclub section. They had a mechanical bull which was popular with the patrons. Ample parking on the premises. I visited late on a Saturday and the crowd seemed mostly in their mid/late 30s with music selections matching that demographic. There was a decent crowd all the way until closing at midnight. Definitely worth visiting again.
Delicious food -friendly waitress! Probably The best teriyaki sauce I’ve had was on the rice. Excellent crab cakes! Very filling! Great atmosphere, nice spot on the lake to enjoy drinks and great food! We ordered chicken wrap, crab cakes, teriyaki rice, Asha a couple of burgers for our table. The burgers were huge and delish! Crab cakes were fresh and very tasty! Battered onion rings were yummy too!!
I guess all the 4 star and 5 star reviews are for the bar/beer. Because the food was barely edible. I got the peel and eat shrimp as my appetizer, and some of the shrimp weren’t even cook through, the center on some shrimp were still raw/clear. Also got the half rack of babyback rib as my entree. It was tough to chew and swallow, and the meat on the rib did not have any flavor, there’s no rub of any kind on the meat. All the flavor was from the sauce they splatter on top on the rib. I wasn’t expecting a competition winning rib coming here, but I can honestly say this was the worst babyback rib I’ve ever had. Definitely won’t be back again.
We stopped here for lunch. It wasnt as nice and homey as what I thought it would be. It wasnt very busy. We sat at the bar. Bartender was very nice and attentive. The hostess though was getting paid to sit there, not very friendly and not very welcoming. The food came out quick and was good. We both had the brisket sandwich. Restaurant was clean as well as the restrooms.
Short staffed. Food was over an hour late. Drinks were over an hour late. Absolutely unacceptable and horrible. No silverware for food, no water. The staff is complete chaos. Food is absolutely horrible. Completely horrible. The chef has to run out in the middle of our order to buy more supplies. This place is so bad and incredibly unprofessional. Only plus was the backup musician (who was a customer) to play country music.
We came to Deep Creek Lake for the long weekend. We ate a late lunch and wasnt hungry until 8pm. Most restaurants close by 9PM. This was one of the restaurants that closed at 10PM so we came here at 8:15pm on Sunday 5/29. So it seemed like only 3 women were waiting on all the tables. We sat down and waited 15 mins just for someone to stop by to offer us water, and another 10 mins to take our order, and another 30 mins to get the food. So We didnt get food until almost an hour after arriving at the restaurant. The food wa pretty good though, the fries were on point, I loved the fries. I got hot wings with mango habernero sauce, and it was good, not as hot as they advertised though. My husband got a philly cheesesteak and he said it was ok.
We went on a Sunday late afternoon. We sat at the bar and it wasn’t too busy. The bartender was attentive. The place appeared to be clean. The food was so delicious! I didn’t get a picture of it, but my husband had the brisket flatbread and ate the whole thing. We had mozzarella sticks, fries and coconut popcorn shrimp. There was a little mix up with out food, but they fixed it right away. We will definitely be back again.
Have the wings to begin, then with steak you got to add shrimp, fries and chips then you will go home stuffed, in fact you may need a take home box like me. Brandon the bar tender was awesome he kept checking in and he’d update people on their food status and he was fast. It wasn’t crowded considering it was early evening.
We had such a great time here!! Came 2 nights during our trip to Maryland. We ate in the bar area and enjoyed live music and great service! Later we headed over to the night club part and enjoyed some drinks and dancing and an awesome DJ!!! The bartenders were awesome even though they were slammed! Thanks for a great time!!!!
Service was terrible. Two different employees came up to me after I walked in, I explained I placed an order. One just walked away, the other told me where to go then walked away while I was asking a question. Then come home and find out the $14 teriyaki bowl has a portion size for a small child, pictured below. This entire experience was horrible the food was cold, it took me 4 minutes to drive home.
We were in the area on Saturday and found your place for lunch while driving around. Yes, it’s a bar setting, but we had the absolute best service, and the food was delicious! Our server was AWESOME and so attentive and knowledgeable! I’m sorry I don’t remember her name. We actually went to a more upscale restaurant for dinner and the food and service was not even close to your restaurant. Thank you! You helped make our weekend getaway enjoyable!!
We were hopeful this place would work out since it was walking distance to our stay. Unfortunately it was not a good experience. The drinks were so watered down and weak. The food was horrible. For example the hot Italian wasn’t even warm, it was dry, hardly any meat etc. I understand it’s bar food but one of the items needs to be good - I.e. drinks or the food. The server Jackie was a sweetheart and the only plus to that experience. A total waste of $120.
Food is better than youd expect! Service is lacking, there is few staff and its usually very busy, as the location is popular. However, they still maintain a clean environment, reasonable service speed, and quality food and drinks. Definitely worth a visit for karaoke night on Thursdays if thats something youre into.
Id heard all week about how good their burgers are. I know they were swamped, I know they couldnt find one of the servers when we were there but my burger wasnt made well at all. It didnt have the sauce. I had to ask for it. It was over cooked and worst of all it was cold. My husbands shrimp tacos were amazing. This was our date night and I ended up getting ice cream for dinner somewhere else.
Disqusting bathrooms , never cleaned, just always dirty, makes ya wonder about the rest of the restaurant. Bartenders are fantastic & friendly, drinks great, food ok .
I HAVE NEVER FELT MORE DISCRIMINATED IN MY LIFE.THE ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.LONG STORY SHORT.IT WAS 5 OF US , WERE NOT FROM HERE BUT HAD TO BE HERE FOR THE NIGHT DUE TO WORK.AS SOON AS WE WALKED IN WE JUST FELT ALL EYES WERE ON US. IT WAS MADE KNOWN TO US WE DIDNT FIT IN.STARTED OFF WITH DRINKS.DRINKS TOOK FOREVER TO GET TO US, THE BEER WAS FORGOTTEN, NO BIG DEAL THOUGH, OUR WAITER WAS PREGNANT AND TOLD US SHE HAD A FORGETFUL MIND DUE TO HER PREGNANCY, UNDERSTANDABLE.WE ORDERED OUR FOOD AFTER SHE CAME BACK WITH OUR BEERS.A GROUP OF 5 CAUCASIAN MEN WALKED IN , AND THEY RECEIVED THEIR ORDER BEFORE US , MIND YOU , WE’D BEEN WAITING FOR 35 MINUTES BY THIS POINT.WHEN KINDLY ASKED ANOTHER WAITRESS WHAT WAS TAKING SO LONG, OUR WAITRESS THEN SHOWED UP ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER SAYING SHE LOST THE TICKET SHE TOOK OUR ORDER ON, YET AGAIN USING THE PREGNANT EXCUSE , STATING SHE FORGOT WHERE SHE PLACED IT, IN A VERY NONCHALANT , COULD CARE LESS TONE.ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!IT TOOK HER WELL OVER 45 MINUTES TO TELL US SHE LOST OUR ORDER!SHE THEN PROCEEDED TO VERY RUDELY SAY THEY WERE CLOSING SOON AND IF WE WANTED TO PLACE ANOTHER ORDER. CANT BELIEVE THE NERVE!BY THAT TIME WE UNDERSTOOD WHAT WAS BEING DONE.WE HEADED OUT AND SPENT OUR MONEY ELSEWHERE.WE WERE ALL BORN AND RAISED IN THE STATES. ITS HONESTLY MIND-BLOWING TO BELIEVE THERE ARE RACIST RESTAURANTS IN THIS DAY AND AGE.WE PAY OUR TAXES AND OUR MONEY IS JUST AS GOOD AS ANYONE ELSES .THANK GOD WE LIVE IN VIRGINIA AND DONT HAVE THESE TYPES OF PEOPLE/PLACES IN MY AREA!PLEASE SAVE OTHERS THE HUMILIATION AND POST A SIGN THAT SAYS “PEOPLE OF COLOR ARE NOT WELCOMED HERE”DONT SPEND A PENNY HERE.
Wife and I went there with a small group. Dont waste your time. The lady working was trying to hustle the bar and serving but the food was horrible. Crabcake was the worst ever steak was chewy and well done. Pretty much everyone in our group had bad food and then we all spent the evening not feeling well. Need some quality control.Update: We visited at 1145am and there were very few people there, to the point it was almost empty. Also it took nearly and hour for food and appetizers came out at the same time as food for our entire party.
We went to the wine shop on a Bachelorette party wine tour, and the owner did our wine tasting. Both he and Patty were super friendly, helpful, and informative. They had a number of delicious wines to try, and I loved that it is a wine/used book store! I will definitely go back next time I am in the area!
We have never been here before. We also read the recent reviews saying they are short staffed. We knew going in it would be a wait so we did everything we could to help and make the experience better. We ordered our drinks at the bar before finding a seat (with only 2 servers working at the time). We knew what we wanted before she got there and had our card ready when she brought the check. When we wanted a refill from the bar we went to bar to get it for both non and Alcoholic drinks. Our server Brandi was super nice and absolutely did a great job. Yes it is a wait but they informed us about it and we chose to make our own experience better by making it easier on them.
Granted, its a bar/tavern, but dont recommend going unless its for a drink. Most of the food was not made in-house (aka the chicken wings, brisket, and burgers), and was mostly processed. Food lacked flavor and seasoning. Ordered chicken wings that were supposed to be tossed with bourbon BBQ sauce... most of the wings were not covered, and the sauce not only lacked flavor, but the wings had no flavor themselves, but coming already pre-cooked from out of state, guess you can only add sauce. (adding in response to the business comment: our waitress was the one to tell us that they were prepared from out of state so she could claim the kitchen had no responsibility for the way they tasted). Food came out lukewarm as well. The wait staff was also limited and not the kindest. Went with my family, and 3 of the 4 of us also did not feel the greatest after eating there for the evening.
This place looked great because we stopped and got some bottles of wine downstairs. That earned us 10% off the bill. When we walked in, we were like the 3rd table to be seated. We ordered drinks and everyone in the party of four only ordered appetizer type food. Fried pickles came out in 25 minutes. The rest of the food took over an hour to get. Two or three tables that came in after us, finished eating well before we were done. No idea what happened, server never came to explain anything. We asked for our check for what we were served and magically the rest of our order showed up. Not sure what its like normally, but this is what we dealt with.
Food was very pricey but the staff was terrific. Would recommend to all
Food was delicious, the presentation was excellent and service was great
Went in for drinks and appetizers and sat at the bar. Food was really good. Atmosphere was very nice as well. Bartender was not as attentive as she could have been but we had a lovely time anyways. I’d go back again for sure.
Weve been going to the black bear for twenty years. This review will be for black bear 2023. The black bear got a new chef a few years ago and the food has drastically improved because of it. However.... This place is constantly understaffed and is consistently our least favorite place almost anywhere when it comes to service. Its NORMAL to wait fifteen minutes before you see the wait staff. Every time we go there we tell ourselves never again. Then we eventually get our food and we are very happy and it erases our memory. I have nothing against the staff there they just very very badly need more of them.
Stop for a drink Friday night. We got a Cherry Rum ?? (something) mixed drink, 2 drafts and an order of fried pickle chips for $30ish. Cherry drink was good(pricy to me @ $13 but could be average for the area), draft beer was cold, and the pickles while good dipping ranch seemed a bit watered down. Service from the bartender was good, she was busy, servers who all walked by seemed friendly with smiles and hellos. Stop again? Sure, probably skip the pickles though and try something else as the regular meals coming out looked great. They also had an acoustic musician there for the evening, who was good as well.
Nice local bar with a fun atomosphere. Long wait for food only to be told the nachos we ordered would not be coming due to the queso not being thawed. Other than that, the wings and the drinks were good.
Rude bartender. If you are not from the area, I suggest not going here. It’s very clear they cater to locals and find annoyance with people from out of town. We were there at least 20-30 min at the bar. The bartender(amy?) avoided eye contact the entire time, and went to multiple groups at the bar a few times before getting to us for the first time when she accidentally met our gaze. Asked for shots - she went around to a few more tables of locals and got order and their drinks after us, completely skipping our order. Then went to do dishes which is when we decided to just leave. I suggest you go elsewhere if you are not local- you will not be wanted or respected.HIGHLY recommend honi Goni bar down the road. Twice as busy and was served within a minute of being at the bar.
Wait staff is very polite. The food is excellent, and the few times Ive been there have always been pleasant. Ive seen some good musicians there too.
This was our first time here. We had a party of 6 and seated us outside right away. The server was nice and took our drink and appetizer order. She came back and said the sampler that we ordered was not available. So we took a few more minutes looking at the menu and when she came to take our order, she said they were out of ribs, steak, and shrimp. It was Father’s Day, the main reason we went was for the ribs, which is what my husband wanted. So he had to change his order, he got the crab cake sandwich and fries. 2 of our party got the fish and chips, 1 got the brisket sandwich and 1 got the grilled chicken sandwich. We had to wait over 30 minutes for our food and it wasn’t even busy. They were very skimpy on the fries and they were over cooked. My husband said the crab cake sandwich wasn’t bad but not worth what you paid for it. The sides for the fish and chips came out after they were finished eating and the grilled chicken sandwich was not good at all. I know it wasn’t the servers fault at all, but it was a very disappointing Father’s Day dinner and definitely not worth what we paid. We don’t recommend going there, we definitely won’t go again!!
We went on a Friday night and waited about 20 minutes for a party of 8. Live music was nice but absolutely a bar atmosphere. Waitress was pleasant and attentive. Four people ordered fish and chips and she had to come back about 10 minutes later and said there was no fish. Two people had to send soup back because it was cold and the hamburgers we ordered all came out well done and the fries and onion ring sides were Luke warm at best. Lots of better food options at Deep Creek lake
There are only a few times in life when you have over a three hour wait to discuss the fabric of time instead of eat. We were in too deep to leave after hour two. When the food came three hours later, it felt like the burger had been cooking the entire length of time. Cheese not even melt though somehow. Eventually they turned off the lights because it was so late but thank God they turned them back on just in time to see this awful food. The restaurant was so empty I dont understand how my $340 bill took as long as it did. I highly recommend to avoid even though it seems like there are slim pickings in deep creek lake.
Food is great service is amazing wings are the best!
We are dinner here. They had karaoke and one of the ladies in our group sang. She nailed it. Everyone in the establishment was very impressed with our friend who sings exceptionally well.
I think that these brew pub places places are usually hit-or-miss. The chicken sandwich was good but not great. The crab cake was supposed to have lump crab meat in it but it had none at all. It was made up almost entirely of the small shreds of crab meat with filler of course. The taste was good but not great. On the plus side the service was actually very good and that helps make the experience a lot better. If this review was helpful to you please give it a thumbs up.
Great place to visit while in Deep Creek. The food was excellent, and the drinks were reasonably priced. Our server was friendly and helpful. Theres a nightclub attached to it.
Granted we went in late for dinner. but we were seated after talking to the hostess and given menus. Then we’re summarily booted out because the kitchen was closed and we had a child with us. Won’t be back, and don’t go close to 10pm or you’re out. No idea how the food is.
This is the most unknown and underrated restaurant in DCL. It is so unassuming that after 15 years, we just discovered it. It’s very akin to “Cheers”, as they have regulars that are super cool but also very welcoming to new comers. All that aside, the food (from a foodie) is wonderful. It’s pub fare but amazing pub fare. Everything is fresh (so no stale buns) and even the ranch dressing (that accompanies the delicious fried pickles) is made in house. I highly recommend this place but also want to keep it a secret :).
The best blackened chicken sandwich. They have karaoke some nights and live music on others.
The people and service were very good. But dont assume this ranking to imply this is a 4 star restaurant, it is a bar that serves bar food. It can be what you are looking for but its a bar and nightclub first.
Food is good. Service was professional and the wait person checked on us frequently enough that we werent left waiting or wanting. The prices are better than most in the area.
We were looking for a quick bite on the way through Deep Creek. Restaurant looks interesting and not too crowded. Very full sandwich menu. Outside dining deck and full bar. Moderate price. It was a good brisket sandwich and Im sure well stop there again.
We specifically called ahead to ask when their kitchen closed because we knew we wouldn’t be back before a certain time. They told us the kitchen closed at 10pm. We showed up at 9pm and they told us the kitchen was closed. Then we heard the security guard ask the other one why they closed early. We would have stopped somewhere else in our way home.
The food was fine. Be warned that they are short staffed. We had to wait 30 minutes for a waiter to take our order because of a miscommunication on who our server is (despite us trying to wave a server down and multiple servers passing us and seeing no one was waiting us.) We waited an additional 40 minutes for our food. They were out of the appetizer platters and all fish. Also, they ran out of the large cups and had to serve us in smaller disposable plastic cups. If they get some more staff I think it would fix these problems.
Love coming here when we visit Deep Creek. Food is always good and service is decent. Atmosphere is fun, every time we go there is live music and the locals are hilarious.
Service was quick, drinks were strong and tasty, food was on point. Coming from out of state for a quick weekend getaway. Best place so far!
Server deserved five stars. Everything else was an absolute zero. One of the worst restaurant experiences of my life. Majority of the food was inedible. Took nearly two hours to be served. Restaurant was clearly very short staffed. Thats not uncommon. Based on the number of upset customers I saw...they would be better off staying closed until they can work things out. They have at least one spectacular employee but I cant imagine she will stick around through many more shifts like she had last night. Just awful all the way around.
We were not greeted when we came in the door. We found a table. When the waitress came over she said we couldnt eat because they had suddenly run out of all food. When I asked for other restaurant recommendations in the are (as we were travelers) she kept reiterating that she had no food. Eventually mentioning the steakhouse next door. The whole time food was coming out of the kitchen in all varieties and being served to patrons. We ended up eating in another establishment. We will not be back.
Way more bar than restaurant judging by the decor. We didnt stay once we heard there would be a long wait.Seems lack of workers is a common problem around DCL.
I am no one to leave many reviews unless a place is particularly good or poor, in this case it was the latter. Service was exceptionally slow on a night that was busy but not slammed at all. Waitress was too busy elsewhere, not sure if they were short staffed but it was poor service. Appetizers came out with the food after over 40 minutes, wings were cold and wrong flavor on one order, burger came out rare on another and the appetizers were cold. My soup and fish sandwich was okay but nothing over the top. Would not recommend.
Burgers and wraps were good (nothing spectacular).
Just had a crab cake sandwich from here for lunch...and wow!!! I wish it wasnt over, it was that good. It was fresh and delicious! The fries were so yummy too. Great sized portions. My kids are very satisfied with their cheeseburgers and chicken strips too. But if you come here definitely get the crab cake sandwich! We live out of state and come to visit family every so often...I will 100% come back here!! Thank you for an amazing lunch!
This was my first time here and my last. I understand restaurants are short staffed but there was no reason for my family to have to sit there for 30 minutes to even get waters. And then almost another 30 minutes to even get our orders taken. On top of that our waiter not once checked on us but could chitchat with others. And the manager was one of the absolute rudest managers I’ve ever come in contact with, instead of fixing the problems she decided conflict was better. All I can say is if I could leave no stars I would, one of the absolute worst experiences Ive ever had. But I will give props to the bartender for stepping up and taking our orders, at least someone there cared...Let’s respond shall we, we arrived at 4:30 to maybe 1/4 of the place full. There were plenty of servers in the establishment including the fantastic bartender that helped us with all our drinks and food orders. Our waitress was busy talking outside with friends and would disappear in the back for roughly 10 or so minutes while we lacked drinks and hadn’t even ordered food. She had 3 tables, we watched as she neglected all 4 tables the evening. It became busy after we were there for an hour without ordering food, the issue isn’t being short staffed it is the fact that there was no standard within this establishment to actually serve customers. Instead we blame being short staffed, something that every restaurant in the deep creek area has been facing all summer yet they all seem to be doing perfectly fine within their reviews. I, as well as many of those that attended dinner that evening, have worked in the food service industry and can tell the difference between short staffed and slammed, and just plain poor service. Call it what you want, we will be pleased to watch your episode of bar rescue in the near future.
We had lunch on Saturday, July 3, and the staff was very friendly and we really enjoyed the food. My daughters ordered grilled cheese (which was not on the menu) and french fries, my husband had the Philly cheese steak with coleslaw, and I had the ham and cheese wrap. We all commented how good the food was. It was clear the kitchen was a bit overwhelmed with orders, but they had a full house and were trying to manage everyones needs at the same time. I was pleased the wait staff were making an effort to touch base with us as we waited for our food to come out. I loved the decor and its a charming little village.
Waited for 25 minutes to even be acknowledged by a waitress or bartender (our party waited at 2 different spots). The female bartender went to wait on a group of guys that stepped up to the bar after us. Decided to leave and go to the Greene Turtle
Really enjoyed the food, a more affordable option than some other places in the area. We liked the Sampler, brisket sandwich, toasted italian cold cut, and crab cake sandwich
A great atmosphere at Black Bear Tavern & Restaurant. It sits across Deep Creek Lake facing The Wisp Ski Resort in McHenry, MD. Food was good. Plenty of indoor & outdoor seating. Great Bar too! 😎😎
This place is absolutely amazing and we will definitely be back.
Expensive food, cooked to perfection though. I ordered the stuffed crab mushrooms for an appetizer and there were maybe 6 on the plate, but they were super tiny.. the taste was absolutely delicious though, brought out so much of the flavor.. best Ive ever had. I ordered a salad for my main dish and the ingredients were extremely fresh. The people in the restaurant upstairs were extremely loud.. so we could barely hear the jazz music playing and they all ended up having birthdays... Oye, nothing against the restaurant though. The waitress we had was over her day.. wish she was in a better mood.
Where to begin... the food is fantastic, the ambiance is welcoming, and the staff is so friendly! We really love this place and always look forward to stopping in when we’re in town. I love that they remember our family and always ask how everyone has been. Do yourself a favor and order the Napalm Burger (my favorite) or the Big Bear Burger (my husband’s favorite) the next time you’re there. They’re fresh, delicious, and HUGE! You won’t be disappointed. FIVE STARS!!
The food was great, but the service was absolutely OUTSTANDING! Our server was prompt and guided us to dishes on the menu that worked for us, even going as far as telling us that we probably WOULDN’T like an item based on our questions. She then went out of her way to recommend a restaurant that is local to where we live since she used to live in the area. And when I didn’t think it could get better, she took my daughter’s meal off the ticket because it was t properly prepared - and we were clear that it was unnecessary! What became obvious to us is that this restaurant is well-run. The owners clearly encourage their employees to listen to their customers and help them - not just sell them a meal and move on to the next customer. And on top of that - they actually empower their employees to do right by their customers. And did I mention the food was great? I thought so! We will definitely be back and I encourage you to patronize them as well.
When an individual orders a crab cake meal, they expect it to be warm, not cold. Well the crab cake, along with everything else we ordered in our party of 8, was ALL cold. The crab cake was even burnt, and still cold when it hit the table. Our server was flirting with the bar tender, and the only server who wasn’t running around like the others. I read the owners review and they just make excuses for their poor service. Someone in my group ordered a chicken sandwich and received what appeared to be Tyson’s frozen chicken patty on a piece of bread, and that too was cold. No sauce, no lettuce, just that. We read the poor reviews before going, but we still decided to give them a chance. It took 30 mins to get drinks, over an hour on the food, and it was cold and mediocre to say the least. It was to late for us that night, but I recommend those reading reviews to go somewhere else. My group wished we had.
Great service and good food. The Fish Sandwich was hot and fresh with a very large piece of fish. They also have a great selection of bottled beer, so I was happy even on a night when their tap wasnt working. Really appreciate the Tesla charger as well! Thanks!
Don’t waste your money. Service was very slow. Food was borderline edible. Broccoli cheddar soup (soup of the day, not on menu) was like drywall paste. Mashed potatoes were cold. Dog water, after 3 requests, was delivered with warm/hot water in bowl. Rare steak was delivered medium well. Total bust.
Hostess was nice and let us know we would need to wait 30 min for a server. Server completely ignored us and served other tables. Order then by other server an hr later. Food took over 2 hrs to come out and terrible quality. Staff seems unsupported by management. Bartender was nice as we just got drinks at bar.
Phenomenal food, people, and environment! I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the restaurant. Our hostess, Hannah was fantastic! She was kind and very energetic. Moreover, I highly recommend the crab cakes! I ordered the Crab Cake Dish and I relished every single bite! Also, the Hush Puppies were delectable. They have a porch area with a live musician. Great place to just sit around and hang out to have fun.Next time I visit Deep Creek, I will definitely dine there again.
1 and 30 hours to get our food:-(. Will not be back.
Cant say we had a great experience here. The waitress was not attentive at all and never returned after dropping our food off until it was time for our checks. I ordered the $20 burger which was burnt when I asked for it to be cooked med rare. The beer I ordered was listed under bottles, I received it in a can which ok no big deal to me but maybe correct that on your drink menu. It wasnt crazy busy or anything so not sure what was going on. On a positive note the menu had good selection and there was a nice selection of beers as well.
Pros: Good service, waitress (Brandy maybe?) was super attentive. Cheese sauce on the nachos was delicious. Waitress brought a pitcher of our drinks to make our life and her life easier. They were very willing to put on our game we wanted to watch.Cons: TV’s. These were the absolute worst TV’s I have ever experienced. Every TV had a blurry picture. TV’s are cheap these days, so I was taken aback when one of the workers told me they were very old. They did not have high definition. We ate, paid, and went to Uno’s to watch the rest of the game. The restaurant could replace every TV for probability under $2500.
The only thing worse than the food was the service. We were seated right away, waitress took our drink order and that was pretty much the last we saw of her. Had to get someone else to take our order. Got our food about an hour later with no silverware. Manager did not see this as an issue. Will never go back. 0 stars would be fair score. My response to you. The place was not packed as there were empty tables. Watched our waitress talk to a friend for at least 15 minutes while we were waiting 45 minutes to just place our order. Asked waitress for silverware and yet she still did not bring it out to us. Had to go to the bar just to get refills of water as she NEVER came back to check on our drinks while we were waiting to order or at any other time. We had to get somebody just to place our order. Should have walked out before we even placed the order, but since we always go here we waited it out. Big mistake. If the hostess was not the manager, then why did she not get the manager? Asked if we ever worked in the industry does not help the situation especially when 2 people have have and they agree it was the some of the worse service they have ever seen. But by all means keep making excuses.
I waited 45 minutes for my bartender to bring my food. She delivered a sandwich that had been sitting for at least 25min. When I asked why she would give me a sandwich like that her reply was, Ill take it off your check. I will not return.
Definitely fantastic dessert! Iced tea was weak. Steaks were cooked ok. Sweet potato casserole was excellent. Bread was good. Service was friendly. Hostess sat us in the middle of the room, so not my favorite- I would have liked a window seat. But a decent steakhouse
Music was too loud. Rap music doesnt fit the crowd. Its not about the bartender music choice, its about the coustermer enjoyment and service. Play acceptable music. Druken pool players screaming when they made a great shot.. not acceptable. We loved our servers. They were very nice and helpful. Cream of crab was not as thick and no chunks of crab as before. Its sad to see the place go down hill. We may never come back! Good luck
We always have loved their food. We had crab cake dinners and crab dip. It was out of this world. It was a nice and quiet evening. We were the only people there at the time (6pm). Were very surprised we were the only ones there, because they are usually always busy, but it was my birthday and I felt special. 😉 LOL if your ever in McHenry MD give them a try. Im sure you will love it too.
We had a lunch date this past week and it was a very average experience. The establishment was preparing for the evening so it was not busy. The waiter was attentive and kind, and our food was delivered promptly. However, the food was just average. I ordered a fish fry dinner expecting a sizable portion for the price and my partner ordered a fish sandwich at a reduced price. However, when our meals came, we both received the same size and cut of fish, except his was on a sandwich for a reduced price and mine was nothing more than just the one piece. I was not pleased to pay more for less food, and again it was nothing special. Overall, a very average experience.
We popped in for lunch one day and overall had a good experience. The inside seating felt a bit cramped and no one greeted us when we came in, we just wondered around until we found a table. But our lunch was so good! Crispy chicken wrap and a burger, and the fries were SO good! Good prices, too.
Black Bear has a nice menu and a beautiful setting. The indoor seating is pretty nice, but outside has consistently been a little unclean and sort of cheap-feeling (referring to my experiences using this seating in the spring/summer). I dont mind waiting a bit for food, but our meals came out and werent hot, and also tasted a little bland. But really, it should at least be warm when its served. So, I wasnt impressed - especially for their prices. (edited for clarification on times visited).
Food was just so so, wasnt as described on menu, meaning missing sauce or condiments, not cooked as ordered. Food was rather bland. One of our guests ordereda salad with chicken on it, no chicken. Someone ordered fries and never got them. Kitchen service was slow. It was a Friday late in the afternoon, around 5:30 p.m.ish. It took about an hour once orders were placed to come to table.
We came at 1:30pm on a Wednesday afternoon. The place was understaffed with two servers and it took a half hour to get an order in. Food portions are very small. Kids meals are very small and overpriced. Our server was never around. She never came back after our meals were out. I am a small lady and I was still hungry after I ate my open faced turkey sandwich. One slice of regular bread and a little bit of turkey hardly any mashed potatoes and gravy. Horrible. Do not go!!!! Complete rip off.
I like the set up because the bar is big. It waraps around the entire restaurant. The burger is very good. I highly recommend it. The beer selection is limited. I think there were about 5 beers on tap. But the biggest problem is the service. The bartender was good but she was waiting on the entire restaurant. They need to hire more people.
Our 1st time there. 10 of us in our group and it took us 2 hrs from sit down to leaving. We all had burgers, which were very good. Bonus 1/2 price on Thursdays. 1 order of ribs and shrimp. Definitely not quick with service especially being there b4 the crowds showed up, were there b4 5pm. Side tip... if you have issues with smokers/smoking may want to avoid this place. They allow smoking on the outside dinning area but it definitely blows in the windows/doorway when they are open, which while we were there was the whole time.
Staying in a cabin near by & decided to visit some local restaurants. We loved it! I had wings & asked to mix 3 flavors, no problem. My girlfriend had a grilled chicken sandwich w/a crab cake on top, it was delicious! Service was outstanding, friendly & accommodating. It’s a sports bar feel. Great food!
Food is edible and decent. Wouldn’t say the service is good though. We sat there for like an hour and a half for our food and had to keep asking for refills on our drink. The thing is the place wasn’t pack at all, there literally was only one other family in the restaurant. I felt bad for the waiter because there was no one else there helping her.
Service was top notch! I ate there with a big group of 13 and they had one waiter take care of my table and another huge table which is too much to put on just one person. I understand the short staffing situation because I work in the restaurant business too. My main complaint is the food I ordered “The Whaler” and the first time it came out completely uncooked after one of my family members orders the same thing and it comes out perfectly cooked. Then I told the waiter and he took it back and no more than 2 mins later it comes out again. Which is way faster than it should’ve took to cook another one and it was also uncooked but not as bad as the first. You shouldn’t rush the cooking. Due to the cooking mess we got a lot of things off our total cost which cost the restaurant money. So either the chef should get his act on or get fired.
This was probably one of the worst places I have ever eaten. We had to wait an hour to just get into the restaurant, but to be fair it was rush hour and we had a party of 8. Once we were in the restaurant the waiter only served us 3 times. Then we waited 2 and a half hours and didn’t even get our food. Eventually someone in my party went up to ask about the food and they said they were platting them. After that we waited another 20 mins until we eventually left without our food. I you read all this thank you for listening to my experience.
Oh boy. Terrible service. We were in today to place a carryout order and they were slow and disorganized. Food took about double the time they quoted. My wifes burger was just a bun and patty, they didnt put anything on it that was supposed to be there. My American Burger was really good which is why they are getting 2 stars instead of 1. We were ordering along with our family members and their order took 3x the quoted time and a meal which they paid extra to upgrade to fries came out with chips but they let it go because at this time it was pushing an hour and was supposed to be ready to eat in 20 minutes. The awful and disorganized service outweighs the taste of the one burger they cared enough to do correctly. Do not recommend.
Cute, rustic and friendly little place. Outdoor seating looked inviting but the folks I was with wanted to be in air conditioning. The food was really good and the staff was friendly and on top of stuff. I will definitely visit again next time Im in the area.
We were only in the restaurant for about 20 minutes because we ended up just leaving. We waited for several minutes at the entrance before someone finally said we could seat ourselves (no sign or anything). The waiter was somewhat rude, and after multiple trips to the kitchen he started listing off all of the items on the menu they didn’t have, which was most of the menu. Another thing that was slightly off putting was “Kraft Mac & Cheese” being listed as a side, just seems extremely cheap. Ultimately we canceled our appetizer and left. Definitely wouldn’t return.
Got a steak dinner. It was o.k., not great, but not bad. Waitress was nice. Filled out a 20% tip. My card was charged 43% more instead of 20%. Not good.
Went to Black Bear on 4/19/19 around 4 pm. Placed our order (party of 4) and had horrible service. Three of us were served relatively promptly. The 4th person waited over 15 minutes for the waitress. When she came by, I let her know I never got my food. The waitress was surprised, then made a comment that my crab cake had burnt and they had to make another one. When was she going to tell me that! She was very casual about the fact that everyone had already finished eating. She didnt even give us a discount. $74 dollar meal. Thank you, Molly the Waitress, for ruining our meal.
Reliable sports bar within a lake and ski area. Lots of activities for kids. We were pleasantly surprised at how fresh the food was prepared! On Sundays, the kitchen closes at 5 pm.
The only thing worse than the food here was the service and manager. Sat immediately and took nearly an hour to even put in food. Once the food finally came out we had to get a manager to get us silverware because the waitress didnt bring them. The manager then yelled at us because they were short staffed and we dont understand the food industry. Manager didnt even know their menu. This used to be a great restaurant. Wont go again.
This is a great place! We are locals & visit frequently. Shana & others are so great & hard working! Sometimes visitors dont understand how busy it is. Every business is understaffed so give them a break if you have a little wait time. Enjoy the atmosphere. The food is great too!!
Deep Creek is a wonderful place to be. The food was good, but the service is inefficient. Both times I have been there, it seems you do not get acknowledged for at least 5 minutes or so, but you are not aloud to seat yourself. Others that came after us were waited on before the wait staff even came to the table. I explained these things to the server. She apologized, but it is unacceptable in the food industry.
My buddy just got a place just a few minute walk away from Black Bear Tavern, so we went over there for the first time Saturday night.Great local atmosphere, has a separate night club area with live music practically every night it seems. There was a five dollar cover, but more lively than the regular bar. In the nightclub, there was maybe 25 people or so, but this is the shoulder season with skiing season over and warm weather not here yet.Had a decent selection of craft beer, With a ginger beer cocktail on tap that was really tasty. We did not have their food, so I can’t comment on that.
Black Bear was a very good restaurant. It was empty when we got there, because it was 3:00 on a Monday. The waitress was wonderful. My grilled Reuben and my husbands mushroom burger were very tasty. It was worth the stop.
We waited over 25 minutes for our first round of drinks. We couldnt get another bottle of bud light because the waitress was incompetent. The mixed drinks were not very great. The food took over and hour to get and it was all cold and frozen. The chicken sandwich was worse than the ones you buy from the freezer section at Walmart. The French fries were definitely frozen from a bag. The crab cakes were cold, extremely cold, which is unacceptable. The teriyaki bowl was just Uncle Bens long grain rice and grilled chicken from a bag!! I ordered to a Medium Rare burger and it was charred beyond belief. Honestly the food was terrible and the drinks were subpar. I do NOT recommend this establishment at all. I would give zero stars if possible.
It was okay. Food was good. Had to wait a long time to get it. I understand with the under staffing being a problem. There was only one bar tender serving several people. One of our orders wasnt filled properly. All good though.
Horrible service. New waiter didnt know anything about menu or service. While 4 working employees sat at a table talking the entire time, not once offering to help. After being served our appetizer and eating 3/4 of the fried pickles, I asked the waiter for utensils and napkins to clean my hands. He replied, Can I just bring it to you with your food? As I then had explained to him that he had already served us our appetizer and thus the need for napkins. I also had to get the condiment tray personally, as the waiter told us 20 minutes prior, that he didnt understand why no one had given us one at our table. Food was burnt, and the top of the bun was about 4 inches to the side of the bottom bun, with the burnt burger, cheese, and crabcakes angled as if they were a set of stairs. I could go on.
Food took a long time to come out, but that can be chalked up to staffing issues which is understandable considering the whole pandemic thing. Food itself was goodWhat wasnt good was the live entertainment. Maybe it was a friend of the owner or something because I dont see how this duo got the gig on their own talents.
After walking out of a reservation at Mountain State Brewing due to improper social distancing, my daughter and I took a chance at Black Bear. Im so glad we did! When I mentioned to the hostess (later found out she was the owner) that we were hesitant to dine indoors, she placed us at a corner table near the front door and made sure the waiter was extra careful with covid procedures. The entire place was spotlessly clean and guests were spaced properly. If they had local beer on tap, I would have given them 5 stars.
Not feeling this place. Semi slow service at 4:00 on a Saturday. Food was very bar like, so nothing to rave about. Water and Tea taste like it came from the lake. Music was turned up as if it was evening hours.Good place to mainly hang and have drink/bar food/watch sports, but not to have a really good meal - However for they type served, prices are at the medium level .
The fact that a manager could yell at customers who are basically paying for their service is absolutely disgusting. i understand being short staffed but to yell at customers instead of trying to understand their issue and explain the situation to them which would have helped a lot better is just horrible for business. they definitely don’t care about their customers or their money. don’t recommend coming here unless you want to wait forever to get service & be yelled at by the manager but in that case bring your own silverware and water because you’ll be waiting for them as well.
To an out-of-towner showing up on a Monday afternoon, it seemed completely dead despite the bar being almost full of local patrons or employees. We were the only ones sitting at a table (by the fireplace!), and werent expecting much, but our server was incredibly friendly and attentive, and the fries were addictive.
First time here in Deep Creek. Thought we would try the place out. Also was not waited on! Large group of young girls come in after us and got drinks and waited on before us! I walked out! I understand you are busy! But you need to work on customer service!
The best menu and service! Our Friday night go to. The club next door is an awesome way to dance the night away. We miss the old menu, but its still pleasant to sit on the deck. Great cocktails as well.
The bartenders were fine, we had a problem with the pool table and Jessie was very kind to help us fish the balls that were missing out of the table, left it open for us and we enjoyed some nice appetizers and plenty of cocktails and someneat Whiskey drinks.1 star for only one reason. The business provides a Tesla Destination Charger. The rules posted state I must be in a business on site to use the charger and I was complying 100%. I watched the owner of the Tavern pull up in a Model X, park next to my car which was plugged into the charger and proceed to peer into my car in a unfriendly manner (I was sitting at a table I could see from my car) as I watched. First, a waitress was directed by the owner to ask me if I was the owner of the Tesla. I said yes, and she said that is fine.We ate our apps and drank a good bit, played some pool and I received a message that my car had charging interrupted. At this point I had a drink/dinner tab opened. I closed out, paying a 100% tip on the tab I had and let the bartender know that I found it to be very unwelcoming to provide a charger as a draw to your business and then make it feel like as if I am causing an issue the whole time I am spending money in the establishment. So maybe the owner will learn some ev charging etiquette from this review. There is a difference between being defensive against bad actors and outright being pushy against genuine customers.Once again, no issues with service and food itself.
This is not a family friendly restaurant to start with. Service was slow and very mediocre at the most. Took about 30-45 mins after being seated to even get our order taken. Then about an hr before we got our food. Most of our food was cold when we got it. A couple of us got stomach cramps over night lasting into the next morning. I definitely would not recommend nor go back to this place. Wish I had read the reviews before we decided on this place as the negative reviews were pretty accurate to our experience.
Black Bear is not for everyone - but that is kind of the point. Its a bit of a dive bar for the tourists but a trusted go-to for locals. A blue collar feel with some of the best prices on the lake. You can kick back here, be a little loud and be yourself. I didnt give it 5 stars only because the food quality/selection has declined since covid. Hoping it returns over time!
This place is a must go! Hannah was extremely friendly and prompt with her service. The food arrived quickly and cooked exactly to our liking (i dont know why so many other restaurants struggle to cook a medium rare steak correctly!). The portions where large and the prices fair. Not to mention the live entertainment to top off the night! And by far the best part ... THEY HAVE FREE HIGH POWER 72AMP TESLA CHARGING!!!! Immediate win for both the customers and the environment.
Great music. Service was very slow, despite there not being very many tables per server [ I even asked if they had another level of seating thinking that was a possible reason]. The food was barely acceptable. 2 tries for a burger and I gave up. Others chicken was so overcooked it was rock hard. Etc.
Not very well managed. Half of our order came out an hour and twenty minutes after ordering, other half came out 10 minutes later. Server forgot 2 of our 5 appetizers. No plates, silverware or napkins were left at our table, we had to flag down a busser to get what we needed. Nobody seemed to know what was going on there. Only giving one star because 0 isnt an option! Dont waste your money here!!!!
Half price wings on Weds which were really good. Great burgers and other menu items. Great staff and atmosphere
Service was friendly but slow. Looked like the bartender was also the only person waiting tables. Saw a couple walk out without being acknowledged. Only had appetizers but everything was frozen and fried. Sauces seemed to be from a bottle, not made at the restaurant. Might be an ok place for some drinks after a day at Wisp.
If you have kids with you, dont make the mistake we did and stop here!We stopped here with hungry elementary-aged kids because it was the first place we saw. We waited for a few minutes (it was around 1 pm, so after peak lunch rush)-- the place didnt look busy, but just possibly understaffed? A hostess came out, looked at us frowning, and said it would be at least a 30 minute wait but probably longer.I was a little surprised because there was no one else waiting, but based on her attitude I figured this just probably isnt a family-friendly place. That was pretty much confirmed when, as we were walking out the door, she immediately sat the group of 4 adults that were right behind us.
Food was okay but service was horrible. We’re from out of town so was excited to try this restaurant out. Hostess finally came to front then said I’ll be right with you. She never came back. Waited around 10 min and another girl came and seated us right away. Waited a longgg time for a waiter. Placed our drinks, appetizer and burgers order. Waited for 30 minutes and waiter didn’t bring appetizer. When asked about it he said do you still want it?! So appetizer came to us a little cold. Asked the waiter for napkins and utensils and he brought them back but just tossed the napkins in between our food. Never said much. He just wasnt friendly or acted as if we were worthy of his time. Never got a refil which is no big deal but was expecting better service. Restaurant wasn’t even busy. Bartender seemed to be the most courteous of the staff that was around. I always try to give waiters the benefit of the doubt but he nor the hostess just really didn’t care.
Best part of town! I ate here twice in two days and if I wasnt leaving town, Id do it again. Our server Hannah was always smiling and ready to help, the hush puppies hit every spot, the live music played a great acoustic set of nostalgic music, and the owner Laura treated us like family.Lots of families, professionals, and locals having fun. Both my thumbs are up!!Check out the TESLA chargers in the back!
The only good thing about our visit was the view of the lake. The food is just ok. I had the Reuben...very small for the price. The reuban comes with bland potato chips, no fries. My son had wings, basically they were burnt. My wife ordered a burger with cheese, lettuce and pickles. She got a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato. The burger itself was the highlight of the food however. She said it was cooked to perfection. I would have asked for pickles but our waitress was missing in action. She took our drink order, brought us drinks......then disappears till the food was ready. (40 minutes) After bringing us our food she then went to get us refills. We were done with our sandwiches before she returned. Service is horrendous in this place. If you are not drinking alcohol you are non existent to the staff. This visit was on Sunday morning at 11:30 October 15th. There were 2 waitresses, one bartender, and a girl at the door. (I have no idea what she was doing) There were 2 tables besides us. There were four people at the bar.i work in beverage and service, this was reciculous. We will never return. There are far too many quality restaurants in Deep Creek, and the surrounding area to ever stop here again.
Decent bar food priced fairly, definitely return on my next visit to the areaUpdate, been coming here on a regular basis and noticed a decline in staffs abilities. Waited over 15minutes for a server and walked out. It was a Friday night with plenty of open tables...Might have to give them a timeout. !
Ate at this restaurant with a party of 7. Was there for over 2 hours. Bad and slow service. Had to obtain our own drinks from the bar due to lack of attention, food came out cold, and incorrect. Extremely unhappy.
Waited for 30 minutes for waitress to take our drink order by then we knew what appetizers and entrees we wanted. Watched her take the order of the party that came in after we did. She said she couldnt gaureentee that our appetizers would come before our meal because they were short staffed. Ended up ordering drinks at the bar.
My son and I went here on a whim. He tried to recreate the burger he got there and it cant match up. Good job guys. Not crowded when we went and service was good. Will eat here again next time were in town.
4 words: Hot Butter Garlic Wings. I’m still day dreaming about them. So impressed with the food and the kind and caring service! I could tell that safety of guests and employees was top of mind. I’m so glad we found this place while driving through on vacation at DCL - I wish there was a spot like this in my hometown!
Appetizers were flavorless & my party & I could agree their tapped beers weren’t a great choice. They did have gluten free options which I was quite surprised. My recommendation, don’t go for the gluten free pizza but choose the regular one if you can.
This place is Fantastic. Every time I visit I have a great time. The atmosphere is Awesome, People, workers are AMAZING. It is definitely the place to come and enjoy yourself ans time up at the Lake and Slopes. Club side is the place to be in the evening. Will be back every time I come up to visit.
Great food. Good pricing. A nice place to sit, drink, eat and relax. Older place with windows overlooking the rear, outdoor seating in seating which I always like. Really good food as mentioned above and service was also good. A easy stop and an easy fun place to get lunch, dinner or just drink at the bar or at a table. Go for it, it will be worth it and you will enjoy this place.
Went there to get food to take out and most of the order was incorrect. The burger was good but the wings that we got “hot” were just fried plain wings, not a drop of seasoning or spice. For the price save your money and go somewhere for food.
Wish I could leave zero stars. Just left the restaurant after waiting an hour and 20 mins and never receiving food. Party of 6 sat next to the pool table almost impaled by people playing multiple times. Took 15 mins before we were greeted by a waitress. Gave her our drink and food order at that time. She quickly delivered the drinks and than disappeared for 45 mins. She appeared to take someone elses order. When we were able to flagged her down 10 mins later, and asked were our food was she says sometime took one of the burgers for our order. We told her we would give her a couple more mins and we were leaving. She said she understood. 10 mins later she came out with some food and says this is what I found, one appitezer and 2 slider meals. The plates were so hot you could not touch them. She said she was not sure when the rest of our food would come out maybe another 5 mins. The appitizer was cold everything else was obviously sitting under a heat lamp. We decided to leave and not wait for the rest of our food. It was the worst experience we have had at the restaurant. Will not be back, had planned to stay and play golf, and drive go carts at the fort but did not want to waste any more time at the location. To sum up waited in a noising environment, no one asked if we wanted refills, never received out parties order after 90mins and what they found under the heat lamp was inedible. Will not be back dont recommend for anyone wanting good food, definitely do not go with your family. We did not feel they wanted families there, our party was 4 adults, 2 teens and they could not be bothered to wait on us.
Great food, atmosphere and cocktails selection, music good...staff a little short.. but ours was attentive and kept checking on us! even the bartender. great place
Nothing advertised was accurate. Advertised Local craft beer and 1/2 appetizers only for there to be no local craft beers available and a majority of the appetizers excluded from being 1/2 off. The signage listed that Samplers, and Chicken Sticks were excluded but we werent told that Crabs, Shrimp and Steak on the Nachos were also excluded until we were given the bill.
Would not recommend this place. Only giving it one star is because of the waitress. Poor girl had to keep apologizing because they were out of almost everything! I wish I had taken a picture of the chicken sandwich they gave me. A cheap hamburger bun, and 2 chicken tenders on it. It was a joke.
I love this bar. The most amazing place in all of Deep Creek. It is a must go. And please ask for Joni or talk about her. She is amazing and she is the best person/bartender I’ve ever been served by in my life.. please go! She makes the bar.
Nice Tavern however they seemed a bit short on staff when we arrived. However the staff was friendly the drink I ordered was a bit lite however it was still good. And I had the Juciest flame broiled burger Ive ever had.
Horrible place, waited a half hour for a table and then Once we were seated they forgot about us. Took another half hour before we ordered drinks, when they finally came the forgot 2 drinks so we had to get them ourselves. Placed our food order and took another half hour to receive that. There were only maybe 5 other tables of customers in the whole restaurant. Totally horrible service.
Mediocre food, mediocre service but the prices are cheap. Not what I would expect at a lake town and honestly I was disappointed
We were looking for a place to watch both the Steelers and the eagles since they were both playing at the same time. We opted for the local sports bar over the chair restaurant. We were seated promptly and ordered our drinks and an appetizer special. Unfortunately, when the food was delivered the server notified us they were out of wings. They just substituted our garlic parm wings with chicken fingers. Did not ask if we preferred something else. The food was just ok and service slow. Will not return in the future.
I used to stop in about 5 times a year. On my last visit the young bar staff seems to only want their friends to be there. They make sure out of town guests feel unwelcome. That may be why its empty in 2021 when other local establishments are busy. If i was the owner i would be very worried about the current staff.
The atmosphere wasnt great and the bartenders didnt know what they were doing. I ordered a special gin cider drink that took her almost 15 minutes to make and she said that I needed to stir it when she handed it to me.
The Food was good. Prices were reasonable. The staff was very friendly. The service was rather slow. It took a long time to get our food.
Slow and inattentive service. Had to go get beer from outside bar after getting tired of waiting for server to bring it. Outside bartender more interested in socializing than tending bar. Waitress brought a National Light beer after ordering a Natty Boh. Food just a 2.5 average. Not even that busy the night we went
We visited Deep Creek Lake for first time on Jan. 29 @ 6.00pm - not very crowded. Black Bears food and service were excellent (had the surf and turf). Live music (Dustin M.) was incredible!
Food is the same as Smileys, except a little pricier. More of a full service bar. BE SPECIFIC when ordering if you have allergies. Steak and burgers were ordered with no black pepper. My order is never right even though wait staff shows what was written. WiFi offered, staff attentiveness hit or miss. Outdoor seating.
Love the food, service and atmosphere. Can watch sports (GO PACK GO 💚💛) tourist always complaining no reservations.. wellll most dont do reservations, so quit complaining and get over it and you will have a fantastic time and probably see it was worth the wait!!
We had a great time inside at the bar on Saturday night. The issue was when we went outside to grab a drink, and we didn’t realize the bar was closing. My friend went up to the bar and the bartender told her to “get your stuff off my bar.” When my friend asked why, the bartender said “We’re closed. Get. Your. Stuff. Off my bar.” I believe the bartender’s name was Kelly. We won’t be returning because of her rudeness.Edit: I don’t give two craps if profanity “isn’t tolerated”. Take your bartender’s side all you want. She was extremely rude and we will not be returning. Nothing profane about her behavior at all. She was just rude.
We did curbside pickup only. So really didnt get to experience the bar, live music, etc. Food was lousy. Probably better after a few drinks. Service was lackluster.Side note - Its a very big building. Signs on every entrance to pick up food at the Tiki Bar, which is not very helpful if you dont know where the Tiki Bar is! (its on the left / North side of the building btw).
We had a really delicious meal here. The wings were awesome. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Would definitely visit again.
There was a huge line to be seated so we sat at the bar, so glad we did! Great service and fabulous food, these were the best shrimp tacos I ever ate!
I can not rate the food. We Sat for about 30 minutes before a waitress came over to say she would be right back. 10 minutes later we walked out. Unfortunately we didnt have any more time to waste. There was maybe 5 people at the bar and 3 tables outside taken up. No excuse for service to be that slow.
This place could be brilliant, but it is poorly managed with inconsistent service (generally bad, but occasionally great). A few staff members are seasoned & brilliant, but the others are quite clueless, likely hired for the high season and apparently given no training whatsoever. The food is often very good, especially the crab cake on a portobello mushroom, but again it is all unreliable (apart from the crab). Nonetheless, its definitely worth a try if youre in the area.
Went there simply because of the Tesla charging option. No complaints with the food. We had lunch and went to explore the Deep Creek area. Came back 3 hours later with the intention of charging car and guess what, spending more money and enjoying some night life. After my brother ran our plan by one of the owners, a second owner showed up and cussed out my brother and banned him from the property. There was no heated exchange of words. The owner flat out unloaded profanities . My brother even offered to pay additional for charge and we would still spend money with him. Again...cussed at. I could see his issue if we werent spending money or others were waiting to charge their Teslas...but that was not the case. Im not the Tesla owner... I however was the one who was going to spend more money there this week of my vacation. Not now, not ever again. Cant put money in the pocket of someone who is that disrespecting. Besides, Mountain State Brewery had better food .
There were 5 people in our party tonight. we were all very disappointed. I had the 2 sliders, the portobello was merely warm on a plain roll, and the other with Mahi was on a soggy roll. My husband was shocked when he received kraft macaroni and cheese as his side, that was the best you could do! we have been coming to your restaurant for years, but never again. Worse meal of my vacation 😒
Ill be completely honest. The food was okay. But a bit overpriced for what you get. And I received the worst service Ive ever gotten while there. I dont know if the waiter was new and they were short staffed or what. But Ill never be dining there again.
Absolutely awful. We had to wait an hour and a half for our meal that arrived cold. There were only two families eating in the restaurant at the time. When there was some confusion about an order the waiter go an attitude. They were out of fish, crab, and ribs, which made up half the menu. Would not recommend to anyone in the area.
Awesome server (Thanks, Zach M). Unfortunately, it is run by someone who cannot take criticisms over an order of wings being bland and a margarita that several other people tried and agreed that it had little to no alcohol. In addition with an ice cube that hasnt been blended (but thats just details, whatever). Zach tried his best to resolve the issue but I understand, all he can do is get the manager to at least let him know. Instead, dealt with an owner (or the owners son) who thinks just because his daddy owns the place that he can treat any customers like that. Unprofessional, sour attitude; having sarcastic remarks like informing us that he would call the police if the bill wasnt paid- well, NEVER ONCE voiced that it wasnt going to be paid and NEVER ONCE was disrespectful to the staffs. To act like that towards a customer that was just concerned about the quality and price of the drinks is just straight up immature.Word of advice, fix your attitude and dont just pick and choose the customers you want to be nice to, because it is one hell of a small town here. ✌
The food was good but not great. The prices were reasonable and the service was great. It is a great place to have a beer and watch the hockey game. Very easy access to Wisp Resort
The crab cake dinner was delicious. The only down fall was they sat us under an air conditioning vent and our food got cold very fast.
I had a very tasty crab cake sandwich. My brother had the haddock and thought it tasted good. The service was good. I would go back again.
Grossly overpriced. My sons burger ($10 + $1 FOR CHEESE) was clearly just a frozen patty on a stale bun. He couldnt eat it and we took him to McDonalds. Nobody liked the food. This place counts on you being trapped with limited options and presents itself as top notch. Even the soda was flat.
Server was great the food was horrible. I got the prime rib on the special.... ugh i can get better prime cooked at a grocery store. First it came out well done and not seasoned, then i told the server thats not how prime is suppoed to come out. Its supposed to be medium rare/ medium. He brought me back another that was medium -ish with a cold center... like out of the fridge cold center. So instead of ingesting spit or a side of from unda cheese, i decided to eat the left over prime rib because i was with a group that already had their food and i didnt want to incovience them. Plus i was starving and didnt want to wait another 20 mins for food that may contain human fluid in or on top.
Bad. They seated us next to a servers work station by front door so atmosphere was terrible for us. Food was not good to put it mildly. Really crowded and overpriced.
Went there to eat dinner the food was terrible. If you hammered drunk you might enjoy it. Waited a long time to get our food and service was bad. Will not be going back
To any group of women: Avoid this place. The crowd inside is made up of locals who take advantage of the fact that youre tourists. We had an actual assault within our group and the perpetrator was not immediately removed. Security is lax for the amount of issues that occur here. Even our shuttle driver kept messaging to make sure we were okay. This is apparently a well known fact that local guys go there to prey on women. Avoid, avoid, avoid!
Wisp Resorters beware!! My friend suggested we go off the resort to a local charming tavern but that proved to be a fatal error! My party waited over 20 minutes for our first round of drinks. The waitress or bartender clearly forgot - probably the waitress as it became a common theme throughout our torturous meal. The women’s restroom smelled like a locker room. When our sliders arrived, they were hard & rubbery, and the “buns” were actually hotdog buns cut in half. My friend forgot to add fixings when she placed her order, so she requested lettuce & cheese right when our food arrived ... thinking the waitress would get that to her quickly to enjoy her warm food but no, 15 minutes later she returned to let us know they were “out of cheese.” Long story short, after another unnecessarily long wait for the check, we left hungry. Don’t waste your time, the most basic fast food is more satisfying, better service & quality!
We ate at the restaurant then went on the Go carts and went for the wine tasting book store. Had the pleasure of tasting superb wine with the owner of Black Bear restaurant and had a blast their along with the sweet Lady as well.🇺🇸❤Cant wait to return.
Waitress was very pleasant but food was nothing exceptional. Prices were not unreasonable. Nice view f the water while we ate.
Overpriced average food. Not worth it but there are so few choices around Deep Creek Lake. Be careful what you order everything is an add-on, and we spent $60 a person without drinks or desserts.
For only having 2 very hard working waitresses on the floor, they busted their butts. And the rest of the staff reallly pulled it together. As a team . I was very impressed !!!!Food was fantastic ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
Waited over an hour for food that was cold When we got it. Crab dip tasted like tuna casserole . Well done burger was blood red inside. The whole dinner was just plain lousy ...GO SOMEWHERE ELSE !!!
Horrible service took forever to get drinks and food. One meal want even what was ordered and the Burgers were burnt on the outside and raw inside. Steak sandwich was bland and flavorless. Go to McDonald’s it would be better
Stopped by for an afternoon drink. The Tesla charger caught my attention. A few friends and I enjoyed the pit stop and friendly staff. Would recommend checking it out if you’re in the area.
Menu has changed since adverts with Google. Now, the usual frozen, fried bar fare. Dont go for the food. Their sign out front says it best, Soup of the day: whiskey.
Food wasnt spectacular, wait time was long, but service was very good and the staff was very kind
My daughter Katie and 14 of her best friends celebrated her Bachelorette party on August 14 and the Black Bear were wonderful and the atmosphere was excellent! We were able to get the VIP area which allowed the girls to enjoy letting loose and be in a safe club too. Thank you for making her night a huge success!!!
Very good waitstaff, good food. One person was served fish that was overcooked and dry, but management took it off the bill no questions asked. Enjoyable visit.
Great crab cakes and the biggest burger Ive ever seen. Good environment and friendly staff. If youre in town I recommend stopping in and trying it out.
