If you want old school bar/pub that has a band with an eclectic feel, this is it. They are a unique space and welll worth the visit! Many excellent music acts. Tim Woods is a fav bit they have everything from rock to rockabilly. Open mic nights are hosted by Tim Woods and it is a lot of fun!! Lyndsay is the best bartender and Monty takes your cover(3bucks on weekends) but make sure to drop a buck or 2 in the tip jar for the musicians!! If you love music and atmosphere, get here!!!

Little establishment that makes the most of what theyve got! Love the music vibe and all the old instruments on the walls. I was there for an open mic, hosted by a lovely gal named Lacy May. Great personality and great voice. There was a boy there whose parents brought him to the open mic. I think David H will be a star and this little tavern may have given him a push in that direction!The food was great, I had some wings and a steak sandwich. Service was good. There wasnt a lot of parking and it was a little tight inside. Packed on a Wednesday night.While Id like to see it be bigger and have a little more parking, Im still giving it 5 stars!

Great music and drinks, one of my favorite places

Great open mic night. Lot of talented musicians and very impressed. Will make my way back. Bartender was on top of it and the drinks are reasonably priced. Draft beers were cold and served promptly despite a good crowd. What else can be said? Overall felt like a small hometown bar should.

The music venues are great in this vintage building. The food is good. Their pizza tastes like what Kennywood used to serve. And the decor of Cigar Box collection very interesting.

Just one big giant family. The owner is the nicest guy, the customers are welcoming, plus the food is great! Did I mention the music on Thur Fri and Sat? What about the amazing network of musicians ready to welcome other musicians in and make them feel at home?!?

Very small place, but the food was good and everyone is so friendly! Went on a Saturday night with family and they had a band called Philix and the Hurricanes, they are AWESOME!!! We all had a wonderful time! Will go back!

Havent been here in years. Had do much fun. Met friends who we has not saw in 17 years. The best band I have seen in ages. Crew of the half moon. Wonderful entertainers! Were very nice an accommodating to my service dog. We had a wonderful time. The owners treated us like family.

Keep in mind that this review is based on a Friday night, first time visit. I was there to see one of the bands perform and the place was packed. All of them were very good. Low cover charge. Excellent homemade potato chips!

This is a no frills bar. Definitely a blue Jean wearing bar. Nothing fancy but great bar food and atmosphere. Some of the greatest blues/rock music every Friday at the open mic night. Local talent from all over western Pennsylvania. Acoustic Open Mic night on Thursdays and LIVE bands every Saturday night. Great prices on food and beverages. Rrhe same family has owned and run this bar since 1933.

Jerry B and the Bonetones awesome. Best Blues ever. Could listen to them every night. Sweet and Hot wings awesome at $9.50 a half dozen and they are large!!! Love this place.

This is a great place!Been coming here for years and never had a bad time. Good food, good music, and great people. The upcoming Guitar B Q is two days of music and fun.

Band called hurricanes was great!

Great local spot with an interesting history going back before Prohibition. Recently revamped cigar box guitar museum, curated by the King of Cigar Box guitars, Shane Speal, from his extensive collection of historic DIY instruments. Features friendly staff, open mike nights, numerous house special food items including not to be missed Big A*$ wings, catfish and fried cheese (all decadently delicious)! Sports fans welcome too!

It may not look like it, but this is an amazing place. The staff was friendly and quick, my food was very good and drinks were even better. I highly recommend Speals whether youre looking for a drink or two after a long workday or to sip whiskey and bs with your friends.

A really unique bar with guitar memorabilia all over the place. A good menu found in cigar boxes adds to its charm. Come see the boxing bear as you enter the front door.

Friday nights are a treat here. Band night and open to anyone who wants to play guitar. Food was decent for bar food and the bar made was cool.

Unbelievable music cheap drinks the biggest cigar box guitar museum in existence. A stuffed bear with boxing gloves and sunglasses, its a national treasure!

On Friday 8/23/2013, Speals Tavern offered an open microphone blues night. The band was Tim Woods Band and did an excellent job.I sat in on 3 songs with some other musicians, and except for the sound man it was fun. This sound man, who I never met, nor do I know his name, or care too, was nothing short of intimidating, very threating, spit in my face, rude and out of control. I did not know the protocol of sitting in as it was my first time at Speals on a Friday night.I play drums left handed and when finished playing I switched the drums back to a basic right hand set the sound man called me out in front of the audience for not having the drums set exactly as they were. I said I was sorry.He then walked across the dance floor, over to me, shouting that “he runs the show” and threatened to throw me out of Speals and “Kick my A.. . During his rage he was spitting in my face. He did so in front of the audience. I told him to leave me alone. I packed up my gear and left. I was extremely embarrassed. All because I did not set up the drums to his choosing, but I didn’t know he played or did I know anything about the soundman. He was so rude he never introduced himself. All the betterAs a musician, I’ve know the owner for years and to have someone “run the show” on his behalf needs to rethink the sound man‘s position. The bar is fun and the food is excellent. Being somewhat a guest last night, spoiled a fun evening. I will have to think twice about returning. What a shame the owner works very hard, has a great idea and previously made me feel very welcome in his establishment. What a shame.

The music was lively and fun. We had the best pizza weve ever eaten, and thats a lot of pizzas to beat, but Speals is the best!
