Knock Restaurant and Bar

Stopped here after yoga for a quick lunch. Got a tuna sandwich which was absolutely amazing. Tasted like my mom made it. Fries were the good kind of fries. The food was good, but the service was better. Not only was Kenny K attentive and professional, but he was also a delight. Tramble and Cecilia dropped wisdom on me like a dump truck. I learned so much about education, history, politics, culture, and theatre in the one hour I was there. Cant wait to go back and see my new friends! 10/10. Oh also the ambiance was perfection.

Love Knock, it’s my go to when I’m in town. It’s the perfect blend between upscale and chill. Good food, great staff, diverse in ages and energy. Awesome video nights, karaoke, etc. And the location is just perfect. They also have a late night menu. Can’t wait to get back.

Food and drink was good, but my god the person taking our order seemed very rushed to get us out (as in gone from restaurant) despite it not being a busy day.Do not hang trans flags if you’re going to rush two trans people who just want to enjoy drinks and a lunch.

Thanks to Matthew for his excellent service, we were able to order some delicious treats!Calamari, fish & chips, chicken and wafdles, Breadpudding and cole.saw. we drank water and coffee.Everything was great!

Visited Knock for the first time this evening with a large group of colleagues and it was a fair experience. Located in a historic district, Knock is one of several local businesses and shops. My party consisted of fifteen (15) professionals, all with eclectic palettes. The menu has several different options ranging from seafood, burgers, and pastas. Overall, I wasn’t impressed with the quality of the food. You’ll notice several different food options via the pictures I upload. Personally, I ordered the jumbo crab cake, as an appetizer and seafood alfredo. The jumbo crab cake, came on a bed of warm spinach and a tomato based sauce. The crab cake was not jumbo and was okay. The consistency of the crab cake was not to my liking, nor was its firmness and taste. Overall, for the cost, it wasn’t worth the value. The seafood Alfredo consists of scallops, cod fish, and shrimp. I asked could the pasta only be shrimp and the restaurant was able to accommodate that. I was very impressed with my waitperson’s follow-up to ensure that I got what I wanted. Unfortunately, the Alfredo sauce was watery and the shrimp seemed boiled. Overall, it was eatable, but not on my list of favorite dishes. Several of my colleagues ordered the NY Strip, medium well, and some of their orders can me back rare. Rare to the point that we had to send it back. Overall, the staff was friendly, the food was average, but I enjoyed the company of my colleagues in their large dining area. I don’t plan on coming back!

Often filthy or falling apart. Sorry for the toilet photo, but it’s what I found when I walked in; a snapshot in time - they were NOT crowded at the time. Its patrons deserve better.I love the Knock mimosa - swing by for one for Sunday brunch (but don’t eat there 😳). Be careful that the stool you’re sitting on doesn’t fall apart under you, though.Also, the espresso martini is wonderful. How it’s made depends on the bartender, but it’s a pretty safe bet. Try it.I hope they recognize their faults and work to make improvements - including some (ok, a lot of) customer service training, evaluation, and coaching.

I love the place the food is good but tonight this bartender Jeb had a very bad attitude with me maybe cause I’m a Hispanic person not sure but very bad attitude

It turns out the guy sitting next to us at Knock Restaurant and Bar who jumped over the bar and attacked the bartender, had a knife 🔪 on him. it’s an unsafe time to be going out to the Gayborhood bars unfortunately. It’s not worth risking our lives. The cocktails were horrible and watered down also.

If you’re looking for a strong cocktail knock is a great spot! That said, don’t come for the food! The flatbread looked and tasted like it came from the freezer. The calamari was mehhh..overall it doesn’t warrant any type of restaurant recommendation.

I love this place. While there may be a lot of bars in the gayborhood very few make a good drink. Venture Inn used to be one of them before it closed. Knock makes a great martini. It would be kind of weird getting a martini in the other bars. They also have the best selection of liquors. As far as I know they are the only bar to have Plymouth gin. I cant remember exactly the brand ( might be Dolin) but they use good vermouth as well. I always make it a point to stop there for a drink on a special occasion. The food is also really good but it has been a while since I have ordered anything besides a martini. It is especially great during pride because the crowd is more mature and you can get a drink that isnt served in a plastic cup. I also posted my favorite seat in the house. The little round table by the door.

Went to dinner with a friend and we both ordered a cocktail with dinner. I decided on the Watermelon Sugar and they ordered a Knock Margarita. After a sip we both felt the drinks were not what we expected and asked the waiter if we could return them for wine. The waiter said that its the policy not to refund drinks and that Knock had very popular cocktails that were tasty, which is why the policy existed. However, the waiter humored us and went to their supervisor but they still refused to take the drinks back, meaning we had to pay for something we didnt necessarily care for.My question is, if your drinks are so popular and tasty then why in the actual f**k do you have a policy of no refunds? Wouldn’t you want to make sure the cocktails are up to standard? Like what medication did you steal from Judy Garlands medicine cabinet to make you think that policy was in anyway fair to customers who thought your drinks tasted like sugar toilet water?The ambiance was reminiscent of a bad Queer as Folk episode and there was more lipstick on the wine glass then the drag queen we just saw perform down the street.Eff this place and their $42 filet...which was actually pretty good.

Got ignored when we sat at the bar, then we got a “hello” 5 minutes later, only to be ignored again while the bar tender and bar-back were on their phones still not acknowledging us so we can order, so we left. Another place got our business. Best of luck to those who go there or maybe they just didn’t like us ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Great relaxed atmosphere. Good food too. Really loved the shrimp cocktail so much I ordered two. The cocktail sauce could have been a bit spicier. Had too much catchup flavor. Definitely will be back.

This used to be my favorite place, however, since the pandemic the food doesn’t seem as good and the service is not as attentive. The food is mediocre at best. The bread is disappointing. Meat dishes are a better bet than the fish these days— I miss the old prime rib Sunday special! I really hope they can regain their former quality. Knock is an important and essential space for older gay men and anyone else seeking a nice meal in the Gayborhood; the bar is classy rather than tawdry. I’ll keep going back occasionally just to support their existence, but they do need to find a balance between quality and costs in this pandemic-saturated economy.

Knock is by far my favorite restaurant. The food is always superb, and I am always pleased with my food, regardless of what I order! Servers are indeed excellent, and they are always prompt, cheerful, and polite. I cant wait to go back, and Id recommend it to anyone looking for a place to eat and have drinks.

I’m writing this as I’m sitting at my table in Knock Restaurant. I’d give this place zero stars if it weren’t for our server, Blake. He was a doll and a wonderful server. As for the food, my sweet potatoes were burnt beyond recognition, my date’s steak was super overcooked and the mac and cheese wasn’t even done. Needless to say, we are NEVER coming back here.

Knock is a truly special place. The service is impeccable, the dining always delightful. The food quality is superb. The drink menu is quite comprehensive, and should meet most refined tastes. The owner is a super sweet guy. And he created quite the nice ambiance, and the effect is quite noticeable. Good place to celebrate in the Gayborhood!

This is a nice spot to convene before hitting the bars. The bar staff is thin, but they do their best with the folks on hand. If you go here, pick a table with a view towards the street. There is plenty of eye candy strolling pass this corner.

Average American gay restaurant and bar. Quick service and friendly attention doesnt make up for below average food. Frozen fish and microwaved meat are to be expected but preparation is unimaginative and lackluster. Go for the well prepared drinks from a very capable bar. Bunch and burgers are decent especially if you can sit outside on Locust Street. Happy hour and weekends are best for the wrinkle room crowd.

This was one of the first places I went to in Philadelphia. As a older man it was a good place to go too. I found the staff to be friendly and out going. Until Covid came. The last time I was there a bartender was dismissive and kind of Biased to me. The place was not busy at all and there was no reason for him not to take my drink order and bar-food order. A Hispanic bartender took my order and he was aware of the younger insular white bartender. I am a retired professional American gay man of Southern European/Latino ancestry. I was not pleased to say the least with this type of nonsense unacceptable treatment of a patron. I addressed the issue with the supervisor and he and another colleague were understanding and apologized for the behavior of the young white bartender. I have always had a good experience at the knock. I hope when I return at some point that kind of negative attitude or behavior is no longer tolerated there. Most bartenders there are all very polite and friendly.

They pour good drinks and serve excellent food. Weve been here multiple times and every time we have had an excellent meal. Have tried a variety of appetizers and there is always comments all around the table. This most recent trip I had a ceasar salad to start. I really enjoy good ceasar salad and I think this is certainly one of the best Ive had. This most recent visit was with a large group to celebrate a birthday party and was very impressed with how quick they were able to bring out each persons order.

Very nice place for a more laid-back setting. Typically an older crowd (which is the target demo) though plenty of young folks spend time here as well. Its often very warm in there and I dont quite understand why. Its a nice looking interior. The bar and the high tops nearby are almost always full, even before happy hour which often makes it very hard to get a drink. The staff is great but I have definitely walked out after standing at the bar for 5 minutes without being asked what Id like to order.ALSO: I used to order the chicken fingers here and I would tell everyone about how amazing and different they were. Theyve been replaced with the generic chicken kind like you can get in any diner. Thats a bummer.

The food was amazing, everything was cooked to perfection - Ive never had a filet mignon that tender before and their cheesecake is like eating a cloud. The wait staff is very attentive and gives excellent service. There is a bar in the restaurant but you still have a very nice ambience in the sit down eating area. All around a great experience.

One of my favorite places for drinks. The ambiance is warm but perfect in any weather. The bartenders are absolute sweethearts. What takes a star off is the food is a 4/5. I enjoy a Sunday brunch there, but Im always disappointed in the poor little potatoes...they are always on the soggy side. The dinner is also a 4/5, however this shouldnt stop you from trying it out. Its part of the Knock experience.

A local bar and restraint. The staff is friendly for the most part.. An attitude adjustment could be applied to one employee. As I have heard this from many. Drinks are healthy. Food is eclectic but satisfactory. Nice location to guy watch. Outdoor seating is a major plus.

I really enjoyed the food, and the service was excellent. My only issue was that it was a bit too dark for me considering it was 2pm and there seemed to be no natural light coming in.However, that seemed to be an intentional design choice so Im torn about it. Very LGBT+ Friendly, and moderately priced.

I have been here a multitude of times over the years. After tonight I will never dine here again. I cane to meet friends for dinner, i was burned twice with a hot plate because the food runner could clearly care less.My shrimp cocktail was overcooked and a very meager serving for the price. Ive gone to other restaurants of the same caliber in the very same neighborhood, and got way more for less money. The crab cake tasted as though it was going to go bad the very next day.I originally ordered the lobster pasta, which is really lobster mac and cheese, just to be told they are out of it 5 minutes later. That i understand. What I didnt understand was after my server explained this to me, the floor manager came over about ten minutes later to ask and explain what the issue was with my order. When I explained to him that I was already aware and had already oredered something else, he looked very confused. Clearly communocation is an issue.My entree was a steak that was clearly soaked in enough vinegar to salt and tenderize an entire country. Nothing else on the plate had any semblance of flavor, seasoning, or care, mashed potatoes and some wilted asparagus were the sides, need I explain any further?This is just the issues from tonights visit.The last time i visited back in April, two of us went for lunch and split the bill. A few days later we noticed only one card was charged. The waiter clearly wasnt paying attention.The time before that back in October of 2020, a group of us went for brunch. When we got the check we did all the leg work of writing down which card would be charged what amount. We gave it to our waiter. He comes back a few minutes later with an attitude and says to me Hun, this doesnt add up. After I proceeded to show him the math on a calculator, he says Ill try again. Sure enough the math was correct.I get the impression that if you arent a person of a certain group, you arent really welcome. I work in the industry in the same neighborhood and i can tell you with absolute certainty, I will never dine here again.

Very rude and dismissive! Showed up at 8:20 on a Friday after the election. Empty tables and required to order food. Trevor the bartender refused to serve us. Only problem was the kitchen was closed. Meanwhile many tables with drinks only. Recommend U Bar instead. Where gays are always treated with respect! I will never go back!

Terrific selection of palatable entrées. Prompt seating alfresco. Tasty corn beef sandwich was prepared exactly as described. An apparent hot spot for locals, our waitress was amenable and thought provoking about dining and living accommodations.

Great brunch spot and great bar with generous servings & nice selection of alcohol, good entree options at night...nice music, inexpensively priced food (fabulous kale salad with grilled salmon on top) and elegant decor. Ive become a frequent customer. Unlike many bars, doesnt have a hookup feel to it, rather, an inviting ambiance to hang out. Best bar to chat in comfortable seating, with nice separation between bar & restaurant areas. Wed. night, karaoke night is good fun. The General Manager, Larry-- clearly one of the bars assets-- insists on a top hospitality experience for everyone who walks in. In the rare occasion that someone doesnt like something about their experience, Larry will take care of it right away. This spot is a positive presence in the Gayborhood!

Highly competent and friendly staff.Mixed customer base; straight, gay and all inclusive. Fun atmosphere with an upscale feeling. Nice menu with above average quality for product and preparation.I look forward to another visit.

Food was great but 1 bartender seemed mad and not very friendly. The other one was nice and spoke but seemed to be in a hurry. It was a little busy but not much to ask for someone to wear a smile and say hello to people who are spending money at a place of business. Yes a place of business where people are spending their money. I’m on vacation from California and chose this place. I don’t think I will come back. Sorry

Excellent service. Pleasant, professional & competent staff. Never ever have I had anything but an excellent time at this place. I literally cant even TRY to recall something that could have made any of my visits here better.

Food is okay bar food - nothing fabulous. The waiter was rude, unfriendly, fake nice, and frankly made me feel unwelcome since I sat down. No host or manager present, just a bartender who seemed the most welcoming out of the 3 people working as well as 2 waiters with a miserable demeanor. I wont be going back. Plenty of better restaurants only a block away.

I would give this place a one but the lowest is a 1. I call right before I came and asked so we have to have a reservation the gentleman stated no and that they are not busy my friend and I walked in and and the woman who greeted us at the hostess station said to me that they are not serving food at 4pm at a bar restaurant. I instantly felt discriminated against.

The food was excellent on the visit that my friends and I had. I understand that there’s a new chef in kitchen and that her name is Zakia Crawford, she obviously has a PASSION for cooking because we tasted it in all of our courses!!

First stopped by several years ago when a long time friend Michael Ferreri started playing the piano in the back dining room. I usually arrived around 10 pm, so I only had drinks, however the ambience as well as seeing old friends from other bars, as well as Michael’s playing made for an enchanting evening. I have also had lunch there several times, the food is always delicious and the waiters attentive but not intrusive. KNOCK was also the venue for the wedding mutual friends that I attended in 2019. Lovely upscale, yet casual restaurant/bar in the heart of the Gayborhood

We were going to see Hamilton @ the Forrest Theater on a Saturday & had no reservations. Called Knock & they made room. Fantastic atmosphere, great drinks & the swordfish was phenomenal!

My wife and I who were spending the weekend in Philadelphia really enjoyed this restaurant and bar...Great Food at reasonable prices! Great entertainment! Worth a visit.

Waitress was attentive and polite, but felt that it took a long time for our order to arrive as it was simply burgers. We were not in a rush so no harm done but glad we did not have somewhere we needed to be.

A truly good restaurant all round. Excellent drink pour, super burger and other dishes. Friendly staff and clientele. Ok its primarily a gay bar/restaurant but quality wise its a great place at fair prices.

Very nice place. Only stopped for drinks, but looked at menu an looking forward to trying it out. Looks great an other reviews back that up. Service at the bar was very friendy and love the outside tables for us smokers. No designated parking, so good luck! One night I circled for a half hour trying to find a place to park. Other than that no negatives.

Had a table or tables for our party on short notice. Staff was friendly and professional. So glad we went, the waiters recommendations were spot on. If you get a chance I recommend stopping by.

The food and drinks were both pretty good, although not overly exceptional. Our waiter was nice, but very odd and at times uncomfortable. All in all a good experience though.

Beautiful atmosphere. The food was average but our waitress was rude. She took forever to deliver our drinks and put our appetizer order in with our dinner order. She seemed annoyed that the party I was with were there.

Had the pleasure of spending July 4th night at Knock bar for cocktails. We had a great night with Jose/bartender and Jeremy/barback. Delicious cocktails and fantastic service. Theses men work wonderfully together.

I enjoy the laid-back atmosphere and more mature crowd. I usually sit in the lounge area where theres live karaoke on Saturday nights. Always polite attentive service.

Went here on my birthday for a very late nightcap and snack. Pretty standard, unassuming, gay friendly restaurant and bar. Pricey and not somewhere I would go out of my way to visit, but my friends picked it, fair enough.

KNOCK is always a favorite spot when I visit Philly. Staff is great, food and cocktails are wonderful. Service was a bit slow on this visit, but was worth it. I do wish they still had the Arancini on the menu.

Best bar and fast service AND they serve yuengling lager. Caution The other drinks are Very heavy pours. The knock-mosa & Bloody Mary are brilliant. Always have the Phillies or eagles game on. Dining room has white table clothes and respectable clientele w similar pleasant bar life.All ages, shapes and flavors here, reasonable prices and very nicely decorated, great lighting, spot-on owners who hire only the best boys.Perfect sunny afternoon sidewalk dining.Can’t more philly bars be best like this?

My favorite Gay Bar. Clientele is a more mature male crowd. One of my favorite places to go for good drinks, food, and great conversation!

Knock restaurants policy on mask wearing is apparently oblivious to Dr. Faucis recent recommendations on wearing masks even if vaccinated. It is because of the delta variant that he advises masks indoors in crowded places even if vaccinated. Knock is a great example of that. I spoke to Howard and tried to explain why I was concerned. I happen to be a retired MD who appreciates the situation more than he does and I think Dr. Faucis policy is more reliable than the Citys mandates. Howard became offensive and told me he didnt care what my reasons were and that if I didnt like I could go elsewhere. Knock ought to be more careful who they hire to deal with the public. I was a regular customer but no longer !

Sat at the bar and had the flatbread right before they closed the kitchen. The bartender was very polite and the food came out hot. We really enjoyed it and I recommend you give it a try

Had dinner last night for Valentines Day at Knock with my partner who was taking me there for our 16th Valentines day dinner. I rarely complain, and actually I didnt there, I was most gracious as usual.HOWEVER........ it was probably the most miserable excuse for a meal that I have had for years. We were in the mood for steak... I asked the waiter about the special steak vs the NY Strip thats on the regular menu. I asked about the Bourbon Marinade, I was concerned because I prefer to taste the steak, and I said this to him. He described it as being very mild and it on a bone in ribeye. As soon as I heard it was a bone in ribeye, I was like OK! Well I think they must of dropped the bone somewhere, NO BONE IN... I asked for RARE... it was well totally over done and some bonehead even put A1 sauce at the one end of this piece of crap...I NEVER use A1. I would not even call it a steak... it was a piece of MESS.... Some might read this and say, why did you not send it back. I wanted to, however I did not want to embarris and upset my partner. He surely knew after 16years I was not happy...I did say hello to Bill Wood, however I did not say anything but I stewed on this all night and just had to say something.Very Very Disappointed.

Knock has adapted to current times seamlessly. All safety precautions are in place and consistently adhered to from management on down. The quality of experience that weve come to expect from Knock has not suffered because of it.

Food was good but a little slow getting to the table (it was 6 on Friday so not that bad). Place was boiling hot in temp, almost stuffy. Isolated Im sure.

Stumbled into this restaurant with my family while strolling the streets on a nice evening. Very friendly, very professional, very good service and we all had a great meal.

Great drinks, good basic food and wonderful service plus outdoor seating in warmer months

I dont like to give out negative reviews. Let the people find out. I will give it another try on Sunday, will like to see their prime rib.

The service and the food were mediocre. The portions were large. But otherwise there are better neighborhood options

Love this place! Ambience is friendly. Food is decent, and staff become family.

I was there before 8:30 on a Friday and was told the kitchen was closed. I then asked a waiter if the kitchen was open and he said yes. Trevor is NEVER nice! He’s got an attitude problem.

Great bar with great drinks. I will always remember visiting to see Dean, John & Olive.

Great brunch and great martinis. Theres a regular crowd that comes here, so its sometimes hard to get a table for brunch.
