Nice atmosphere, stained glass on the ceiling. Don’t forget your ID… Live music while you wait. It is easy to see the stage, pretty small venue and it looks like the 7pm shows sell out faster. I ordered both drinks at the same time. The only thing I don’t like is the 2 drink minimum, I know it’s standard at comedy clubs but I still don’t like it…🥴Also parking here can be a little difficult (no parking lot, we found parking on the street off Girard Ave - don’t park at Pavilions)
I love The Comedy Store! It is an iconic venue in San Diego. I used to go pretty regularly but hadnt been in years until this year (2023) when I attended Whitney Cummings, Michael Yo, and Pauly Shores shows. It was great to see that it hadnt changed a bit. The venue is still this neighbourhood hot spot that brings in top talent old and new. If you havent been know that a queue forms before doors open. Seating is first come first served and based on the size of your party where you are seated. There are no bad seats in the house. There is no food served at The Comedy Store but they do sell fantastic popcorn and have a full bar and make pretty good cocktails. If youre looking for a low key night out or a date night this is a great choice. Keep up the good work, Comedy Store!
Nick Swardson was amazing!!! The venu is great to get up close to your favorite comedians. I would say the only thing they can improve on is getting better chairs. They definitely make enough money to improve the chairs. Other than that the service was great in the location is pretty good as well. You should just go down two streets and park. There is plenty of parking if you go two streets past the comedy store towards the beach. Make sure not the park in the grocery store parking lot. Its a two drink minimum.
The Comedy Store is a good venue for comedy. Nice and cozy without feeling like you’re in a sea of people. I recommend arriving early by 30 minutes or longer if you want a front row spot, depending on who’s up that evening. Entering and finding a seat was smooth. Drinks were nice and strong with a good variety of mixed drinks, beer, wine, etc. -1 star because they only had popcorn, but that’s all I’d ding them for. There’s nearby soft serve & coffee across the street for a little post-show treat. Parking up any of the nearby streets is close and your best bet, because the grocery store parking log behind the Comedy Store building will tow.
An impromptu date night landed us here on a night where several comics took the stage. The security out front is quite intense. Hes just doing his job - making sure youve got tickets, and know all of the rules, and are IDd upon entering. Once past him, to the left is the show area. Youll be seated by a friendly staff member. Then a wait staff member will take your drink order. Its quite efficient! The show started promptly at 8. There was an MC and several comedians. Mostly local. While there was not supposed to be heckling from the crowd, the woman near us couldnt help but blurt out comments and have conversations with her party, during the show. Annoying, but we still enjoyed the comics.Parking is on the street only. Free. Do not park in the grocery store lot as YOU WILL BE TOWED. The venue warns of this as well. We parked on the street, just around the corner. Easy, peasy.Overall, a fun night. Talented artists. Great venue. We would catch another show here.
Loved the atmosphere at this place. Taking away one star for the front door guy who was a bit aggressive and rude to my friends (but looking at the comments here it seems hes been at it for years so I guess the management here just doesnt care). What I didnt love was the drinks which also factors into taking 1 star away. They were pretty gross. I ended up just going for tequila on the rocks after 3 paid for drinks that were just disgusting. Would come back for a good comic as Willie Barcena was AMAZING and we had the best night. I have just learned my lesson to go for an easy drinks or beer and dont expect too much out of the bar here.
We were guests on Sunday (April 14, 2024) and were told we could not enter the comedy club with a backpack. This would have been fine, if we had known of this policy beforehand. We were told upon our arrival that backpacks were not allowed AND that the information was posted on the website (by the bouncer at the front, who was extremely rude to us). This was news to us since we searched the website for this information several weeks before we arrived. I have searched the website today, and cannot find the information at all. This “no backpack or luggage policy” does not exist online at all - it is not on your website and it is not posted on tickets purchased for shows. We did not drive to the venue, so we could not easily stash the bag in a vehicle, and were not offered any accommodations or alternatives for where to place the backpack, besides outside with no supervision from anyone. They told us it was our fault for not having a secure location to place a bag - even after telling them we arrived via public transportation. We did not have a location to place our bags and the club refused to hold the backpack for us, since they have had issues with “luggage” in the past, and we also volunteered the security to search through the bag. In my experience, when a business does not have a policy posted publicly, then they have accommodated guests that do not know local policies. While local guests may know this, how are out of town guests supposed to know this rule? I would understand if the show was sold out and there was very limited space. This was not the case. The club was maybe at 40% capacity (this is generous), so it wasn’t like they were crunched for space (for a BACKPACK). Staff was extremely rude and blamed us for not being aware of an internal policy that they do not post about. This is ridiculous. Please let the club know they should publicly post policies that turn people away from the door, even after we have paid for the show that night in advance. Unacceptable way to treat out of town guests. Please do better. I will not recommend this location to my friends or anyone visiting San Diego after this interaction.
Very good experience at the comedy store. Employees were very friendly and made the night memorable. We bought our tickets on a website that they mentioned was not one of the verified resellers so our tickets did not show up on their system. This happened to a few others but they decided to honor our tickets that night. Made for a really great experience seeing Max Jobrani
We bought resale tickets off of vivid seats in May for Tony Hinchliffe two days after they went on sale. Our friends got tickets from the comedy store ticket website and yesterday messaged me saying they got an emailing from the comedy store saying resale tickets will not be allowed and at least one name on the tickets has to match the id being presented at the door. I tried calling the venue but it just kept ringing so I reached out to them on instagram. Nowhere on their site does it state resale tickets are not aloud. If they dont accept resale tickets they shouldnt allow sites like Ticketmaster and vivid seats to sell them. Their response was it says it on the tickets we sale.
Laughter packed venue. Located in the heart of the beautiful LaJolla right next to bars and restaurants this comedy club is a great venue for the lovers of stand up. They book top list comedians and their opening acts are pretty funny as well. Their drinks are decent. I wish their food menu would be more interesting.
Had a great time seeing Nikki Glaser. The show times are a bit off, but the comedians we saw before the headliner were great. I enjoy going out to laugh and Im never disappointed when I come to the comedy store. Its definitely a great place to take a date or a few friends for a weekend out. Cant wait to come back!
I’ve been there a couple of times and have always had a blast, the reason for my review today is about a mistake on my part and their response to it.I scheduled the wrong date for a show and sent them an email about it and was responded to promptly, with an easy solution. In a day where it’s hard to get a human response, I was very pleased with how easy it was to get a solution. Thanks!
Tonight my wife & I went to the Comedy Store, to see Chad Prather and Jesse Peyton. It was quite the surprise to walk up & find the headliner out front, chatting & taking pics with fans.We got in line, & were seated right in front of the stage. The opening comedian/host was actually really funny. The setting was very comfortable.Jesse Peyton came on & was awesome! I think that I blew Captain & Coke out my nose a few times. Then Chad Prather took the stage - I dont think that I stopped laughing the entire set. Ive been a huge fan for a few years now. I watch his show, but his shirts, & love his music. Im so glad that we got the chance to see Chad & Jesse. The club is casual & comfortable. Drinks were good, & the total bill was less than expected. What a great date night! I think well be back soon!
The comedy store offers a very cool, intimate experience to see a comedy show. Friendly staff and tasty beverages galore. Kyle Kinane was classic as always, one of the best comedians and storytellers of our generation.
Had a fantastic night out seeing a comedian we had been wanting to see for forever. Wonderful intimate space and huge laughs. Nice waitstaff and pretty good popcorn!
Performance was good, but the place was outdated, restrooms smelt disgusting, and they pack you in like sardines. Also, no parking and old food served is popcorn.
Went here to see Nick Swardson and what a excellent performance!Even the comedian (opener) kept us laughing from beginning to end!Almost non-stop laughing for overan hour! All the hostesses, hosts, waitresses, and waiters were great!Thank you all for what you do!
This club lived up to my expectations.Had a great time. Staff took good care of me. Everyone there had a good time! Laughs came easy with the comedians I saw. I paid for a VIP seat and meet & greet; worth it!Ill be back again to see more comedians on my list!(My fancy beer was $7, popcorn is $4, not other food options, lots of food options in the area)
LOVE this venue! So intimate and fun! The comedians were fabulous and the servers were so friendly. Highly recommend this location for a date night or fun with friends and family. A+ Comedy
Great venue for a comedy show the two drink minimum seems reasonable until you get the check just a little too expensive for me
This place used to be good but their bouncer has been ruining the experience for EVERYONE who he talks to. Very rude, very mean and all in all seems to be a sad little man that’s upset about his own life but takes it out on others during work. I highly suggest avoiding this place unless you want the worst service and the worst attitude in San Diego
I was the first in line outside but got put all the way in the corner because I was by myself. I asked to move, they said their middle tables were for groups of 4. Thats fine. Halfway through the show, I saw two seats front row center. I asked if I could move there since no one was sitting there. They said those seats are reserved for VIP (I guess even if they dont show up?). I asked to pay to upgrade my ticket to VIP. They said the show was sold out. The people that bought the tickets werent going to show up during the feature act. Cmon. So, instead of getting more money and a happy customer. They wasted my money for coming by myself. Really cool. Also, the waitress was really rude about enforcing the two-drink minimum when I was going to order more anyway. Never coming back here. Only reason I gave 2 stars is because the venues well-kept.
First time, it was fun! They put their heart out and is funny. Is you cannot handle jokes about anything is not for you.
La Jolla Comedy store has been a fave of mine since I lived down the block on Fay Avenue 3 decades ago. Though Ive long since moved away (try finding a $750/month rental within a days drive of La Jolla now - ha!) I love visiting when back in town. Staff is uniformly efficient and friendly, and there isnt a bad seat in the house. Parking, as everywhere in coastal SD, can be tricky, and tables and seating are first come, first served, so plan to arrive early, and prepare to (hopefully) laugh a lot. For well-sold shows the line to get in can be lengthy, so bring a hoody or jacket for the id check and ticket scanning wait.
This place is great. There drinks are decent and the service was good. The comedian was hilarious.
Went to see Ian Lara. It was a great show. The drinks were good, and the staff were friendly. I didnt realize that they only serve popcorn. Wish there was something else to help absorb some of the alcohol.
Caught a show here tonight! To start, parking is all street parking. Do NOT park in the grocery store lot. You might have to circle the block a few times. They dont serve food at this venue, but they did have popcorn for sale ($4). There is a 2 drink minimum (sodas/tea/coffee $5, bud light $6.50, corona/Stella $7.50....everything else goes up more significantly). I would rather a higher ticket price, and the option of 2 free drinks, than to be forced to pay for something I dont want. But i get that booze makes people laugh more lolIt was a decent venue, sort of small, but personable. The staff was helpful in finding seats. The wait staff were skilled at being unnoticed during the show. My only qualm is that they asked for my credit card when we ordered drinks, then they automatically charged everything to my card, including my friends drinks, plus popcorn that we never got. It took until after the show ended before I could get the servers attention to take off the mis-charge. Never got a chance to tell her that she should have offered separate checks for the other persons drinks.
We visited here Saturday night September 16 2023. Comic was great! Loved him! Super funny. Waitress was rude and bossy. Drinks were TOTALLY watered down. Two drink minimum per person also. Didnt like that. Some people dont drink and they were out of tea. Really?
You cant go wrong when you attend a fun night at the Comedy Store. Pretty Funny Ladies
Great venue for a girls night out! We loved the two comedians we saw. Great service, lots of staff to help with drinks & clearing tables as we finished our drinks. My only reason for not giving it 5 stars was the lack of food and our $4 stale popcorn. There is no other food there and we had come straight from work without time to have dinner. The first half of the bag of popcorn was fine— but after that it was stale. The bag isn’t that big either, for $4. I realize it’s not a full on restaurant — it’s a comedy club. But having a little bit more in the way of easy non-stale choices would be great.
Amazing comedy club always the best comedians staff is extremely helpful and attentive every time I come its a blast
We’re visiting from out of state and wanted to see live comedy, so I booked tickets via the website. Come to find out the show was for the Randy Jones Foundation and featured several comics, all of whom made us laugh aloud the whole time. Great experience! We had Mai Tais and Irish coffees, very good. Even came in fancy glasses.
We went to see AGTS (Americas Got Talent) Season 13, 2018 finalist Comedian, Vicki Barbolak. The show on a Thursday night was sold out, we got there early and was first in line as they have only open seating. Our party of 4 was seated in a front center table. There is a 2 drink minimum. The cocktail server was efficient, friendly and even graciously took our photo. Drinks were a generous pour and we all ask for call premium liquors which they carried. Win, win.The seating is tight, but comfortable. There isnt a bad seat in the house. We enjoyed 3 other comics before the main act, Vicki. She killed it, funny, funny woman. Big out loud laughs from the whole audience. She even is a local San Diego talent and has relatable humor for any age. She has honed her craft for over 20+ years, getting a start with the well known Mitzi Shores (Owner of the Comedy Store Franchise) support.Good wait staff, bouncers courteous had a great time. Highly recommend this location.
If you know, you know. This place has seripus history. The whos who of comedy have performed here. Great night of comedy non stop laughs. Standard comedy club 2 drink minimum, bartender is generous with the liquor 👌 thank you. Nice staff, and great seats anywhere. Highly recommend. Only wish the show was longer but thats how it goes, your out early enough to keep the party going at another local spot if you wish. Thank you The Comedy Store for all the years of brining the best comics and giving local ones a shot.
A true institution and staple in the comedy world. Saw Fahim Anwar’s set here the other night and it was such a fun, memorable, and hilarious time! Wait staff was swamped but efficient and friendly. Seating was how it should be; tight and comfy enough. The atmosphere is prime for laughter and I’ll be back many more times. Hopefully on stage some day, a boy can dream.
Comedians are always hit or miss, but we caught a great headliner with some good opening acts.Place is the same as its been 15 yrs ago. Not bad, but could use some tlc upgrades.Service was extremely slow and took forever to get drinks. Popcorn was killer, highly recommended.Overall good experience and still a great place for date night.
Maz Jobrani is an amazing comedian. If he comes to your city, dont miss him.
So funny! I always laugh my face off here! Had a great experience this past Valentine’s Day at their sold out event!
Great venue, great talent. I always have a fantastic time when I come here. The drinks are good, the service is good and the bathrooms are clean.I just wish they recycled. They dont recycle any of the beers, or soda cans or anything that people consume here. I recommend taking your empty containers with you to recycle at home.
I love the La Jolla Comedy Store so much. So much, guys. It’s less intimidating than the Hollywood one but with all the same quality laughs. The servers are super friendly, the door staff is comprised of mainly stand-up comics who work really hard to get better at what they do while providing a good show experience to the audience. I love this place and have been going regularly for over a year, at least 2-3 times a month. Tuesday and Thursday you can usually catch a great free show and support people who are going after their dreams. Every once in a while, the audience sucks and heckles and I hate that for us but staff can quickly intervene to address it. Go whenever you’re bored, yes there’s a two drink minimum and I definitely just get water and coffee bc I’m not a drinker and I still have a great time and it is still less than $20 so it’s cool for a fun night out.
Tony Hinchcliffe, best show I’ve ever been to!
Saw Katie Boyle there on Sunday evening ,absolutely fantastic and very funny 😁
The staff here is great. Wonderful service, quick and efficient. We saw Tony Baker here and the crowd was so fun. If you get their early enough you get a seat right in the front! I dont drink and the non-alcoholic drink selection was good. Great coffee too!
Always a great venue for comedy! They do pack everyone in. Two drink minimum is a bit much when you prepay for tickets... place is a bit old but thats part of its charm. Staff at the door is a bit rough, but inside they are great.
Show was good, but main headliner did not stay after for autographs, which was the whole reason we went. Service was decent, but took long to get drinks. And ended up being overcharged, which we disputed but thankfully they fixed.
This is going to be short and sweet cuz theres not a lot to write about it. We went to see Ali Saddiq. The chairs are not the most comfortable. Make sure you have your ID and your tickets. Otherwise youre not getting in. We got there around 5: 20 and we got in line and were second in line at 5:45. Doors opened at 6:15. Make sure that you do not park in the Vons parking lot because if so you can be towed. There is public parking by the CVS thats right down the street and is like a minute walk away. Theres also street parking if you get there in time. The street parking was free. PLEASE BE AWARE THERE IS NOTHING TO EAT IN THIS COMEDY CLUB. Its the first time Ive ever been to a comedy club and theres no food. Well actually, you can buy a small paper bag of popcorn for $5. I dont know why you would do that but you can. I put it in all caps because I searched for days trying to figure out the menu and there isnt one. Theres a two drink minimum and it doesnt have to be alcoholic. If you want sodas coffee, hot tea, iced tea or bottled water, its $6. I suggest ordering both of your two drinks at the very beginning so that way you dont have to worry about being interrupted or trying to find your waitress while the show is going on. Unlike a lot of comedy clubs. This one only had two people per table at least for the ones right in front of the stage which was really nice because trying to share those tiny tiny tables with four people just would not have worked. We got the VIP so we were right in front which was awesome because he likes to talk to people and he doesnt make fun of you. He just brings you into the conversation.
The La Jolla comedy store is one the landmark venues for entertainment in San Diego. Theyve hosted almost all of the legends. The venue itself is nice and intimate and the drinks are pretty good for a comedy venue. The design is simple and retro and the vibe is good. I think it largely depends on who you see there for how your experience would be. The pricing is not too bad with the two drink minimum especially considering its La Jolla.
Traveled to San Diego and thought to check this place out. Took me 20 minutes to get here. Rude security staff let me know I cant bring a bag inside while it was not mentioned on the ticket page. Had nowhere to leave my bag so I had to head back. More like the Tragedy Store.
Bars great, comedys great, the 2 drink minimum guy at the door, not so great.
I would give a 5 but our waitress Megan was the worse.we barely got our drinks she was too busy with her boyfriend.. and I think she was drunk... theres a2 drink minimum and we got our first one right away. didnt get the second to almost the end of the show. We asked for her and tapped her but was ignored.she brought 2 drinks and had to go up to her about 15 minutes later to ask for the other 2. Worst service ever
Another great show. Whittney Cummings was hilarious and very personable during and after! Not a bad seat in the entire venue. Great openers and great staff. Weve enjoyed ourselves each time (6?) weve been to the store and will keep coming and telling our friends.
Definitely had some good laughs. Will go again for sure
Like most comedy places, the seating is awful because you are squished together next to strangers and the servers are walking around trying not to step on you. But the place was a lot of fun, the comics were funny, and the show was entertaining. And apparently dont park at Vons or youll get towed!
The intimate setting and experience is always great. We have always had an amazing time laughing so hard we cry. No matter who we have seen, it has always been great. The staff is amazing and attentive. Alcohol prices are of course a little high, but worth it.
What an iconic place. The vibe is pretty much exactly what you want for an incredible night of comedy. The ceiling over the floor is really beautiful and all the staff seemed pretty cool. Def plan to go back, and please invite Jason Ellis back, he was killer!
In picturesque La Jolla. No shortage of places to snap photos: nearby beach, sleeping seals with their babies, high end car dealerships etc...Saw Tony Baker and laughed my biscuits off! Tears in my eyes, stomach hurt and cheeks sore. I hadnt laughed that hard in YEARS! Friendly staff and decent venue.Drinks were okay and the seating was a little cramped in spots but other than that, a really great place to see talented comedic artists working their craft.
My first night in San Diego started here and it set the standard for all comedy clubs I will go to in the future. Good atmosphere and so much talent. I was in tears laughing and had a great time. Strongly recommended that this is a stop for anyone who is in town for a short amount of time and looking for a fun way to start your evening.
I have come here a few times and have always had a blast. I have received some of the best medicine, laughter, from this place. Do not be afraid to come solo!!!!! Just like a movie, you are not talking to anyone and should be there to enjoy the entertainment. No one cares and youll sit with one of the many other solo enthusiast.
Went on a Thursday with multiple up-and-comers. It was great, a 3 hour show for $10. Made the two drink minimum seem like a steal. The popcorn was surprisingly good!
Visited this club last weekend to see Dan Cummins and Jon Hock. The venue is spacious for seating but they dont serve food there other than popcorn, so the tables are smaller. 2 drink min. For 3 of us and our bill was around $60.Reasonable prices and friendly staff. Will definitely return for other comics!
Great small venue, outstanding acts, efficient service and good selection of drinks at normal prices for area. No food on menu but I didn’t go there to eat, I went for laughs and drinks. Solid spot and will definitely return.
Have been here a few times and always enjoyed the show. Two drink minimum with tickets, which is pretty standard for comedy clubs I think. Small venue probably seats about 200 people. If you like comedy, check it out.
I love this place. They always have fun acts available. They require a two drink minimum but that is why the tickets are so cheap! Plenty of places to eat nearby before the show just in case.
Great place. Hubby and I came out for a comedy show on a Thursday evening. Alot of good talent, no complaints. Not alot of people and not too big of a crowd (which is good). Beware of the 2 drink minimum per guest. Overall I am happy I was able to experience this place.
Been going here for YEARS, this place is great!! I love it. And funny, I totally noticed the door guy was deuschy!! I remember thinking- Its not studio 54 relax! Lol... Its great to be proactive, but 7pm entry for sober ppl is unnecessary to be a bully- the idea is to have fun, not unnecessarily be put in a sour mood. Other than that, this place is fantastic and you should definitely check out a show. I saw Pauly Shore here years ago and it was over of my favorite comedy shows ever.
Sometimes their comedians are funny, other times, like tonight (pretty funny women) they are not funny at all. Very old and used up depressing jokes. Like really not funny. There’s also a two drink minimum which is silly especially for those that don’t drink like myself and my husband, so we end up getting $7 small Perrier bottles. Lame. I really wanted to laugh tonight….
It was a fun free show that started as an open mic. Two drink minimum and they were a bit pricey for the atmosphere youre getting. The open mic was of course a little rough but the other comics later that night were hilarious. All in all, a very fun time!
Most horrible rude and crude doorman. His behavior you would perhaps expect in the ghetto but certainly not in an establishment in upscale La Jolla. Absolutely a huge embarrassment for this establishment. He should be taught manners and customer service. I would have given 0 stars if there was an option.
Had a blast, Mary was an amazing opening act. And Dan was phenomenal. The service was amazing. Atmosphere was great. Popcorn was fantastic. Cant wait to go back.
Such a blast! Enjoyed this venue
The staff was extremely rude and condescending. My group got two tables and brought them together. Instead of just letting us know that its against their policy to move the tables, one of the bouncers came up and said, Yea, thats not happening. We were way early for the show, a simple explanation or tact would have been nice, rather than act like we had tried to move our tables onto the stage or in the way. The waitress messed up 4/4 of the cocktails we had ordered, everyone in our group switched to beers hoping that they couldnt screw that up. There is a two drink minimum, the drinks were very over priced, Ive had cheaper craft cocktails at Polite Provisions or Raised by Wolves that are way better, bigger, and most importantly... what I ordered! The Comedians were decent, the atmosphere the staff created just killed the vibe and experience for me.I would not go back unless drinks were reasonable prices for what they are serving and they is a change in staff and policy.
Lucky to have front and center seats for Jim Breuer! He was amazing. Wait staff was good. Good drinks & popcorn. No food so be prepared
We attended the comedy store while in town to visit our son whose in the marine Corp. The facility was easy to find, although parking was not. We found the ticket prices to be decent, but the drink prices were ridiculously high and the size and quality of the drinks were lousy. With a two drink minimum per person, it was a high priced disappointment. Luckily the comedy was entertaining otherwise the comedy store would be a one star experience.
So I came here to check out Donnell Rawlings. I couldnt stop laughing from the opening act to the headliner. There is a two drink minimum. If you get there early youre probably going to be seated in the very front. The service was great from checkin to seating. I highly recommend this for a night of fun and laughter.
Went to see Tony Baker who was hilarious!!Very basic place as far as decor; tables, chairs, e.t.c. Good, local spot to see some up and coming comedians. Its a two-drink minimum per person, and I dont drink, so I was pleasantly surprised that I could order hot tea.
Its a two drink minimum, I went on a Wednesday night. The opening acts had a 3 minute time frame so there were a ton of different ones back to back which I liked. But omg so many of those were painful hahaha. The two main headliners were good. There werent any that had me falling out of my chair but I had lots of good laughs. Nice setting.
Dont really have anything to compare it too, but some friends and I went on Best of San Diego night and saw a handful of comedians half of which were pretty funny. There were no breaks between them which was nice.I was hoping that there would be open mic or something after but they turned the house lights on and everyone had to leave. So other than the night ending sooner than I expected, it was a good time.
Loved the show it was fun but I think having to buy drinks that are non alcoholic for five bucks is to much. I had just gone to dinner and I didnt want a drink but you have to buy two minimum. Other then that the place is great.
Great intimate setting. Prices a lil steep for the 2 drink minimum.
So the comics we saw were amazing, but I think the review needs to be more about the venue as you could see mediocre comics or really funny ppl here. First of all, zero food options except popcorn? Serious? Its kinda a dump, Im a little biased having gone to a bunch of Hollywood clubs but its like they are not even trying. When the doors opened someone started barking orders at us and uncomfortably stuck us inside for our stamp, the seating is weird so I was not next to my girlfriend but on the other side of a table when another party joined us at our little table. 2 stars because they are able to get good acts, but only 2 because the venue kinda blows
Had a lot of good laughs here. A good date experience. Typical night club atmosphere with tight tables and chairs, two drink minimum and the quality of the comedy depends on who they book. You can find soime good young talent here if you pick the right night. Not a place to really come alone. Best with a date.
The comedians are fantastic! Almost always absolutely fantastic! However this review is about the store and the person working the front entrance tonight was an complete jerk to basically every single person in line. If Covid-19 hasn’t taught us all to be kinder to each other than something is seriously wrong. For no reason at all, the man working the front entrance tonight was rude and nasty to basically everyone. Please have him get an attitude adjustment or please hire someone kind to work the front. The comedians and the patrons deserve that!
Love The Comedy Store, its comics, servers, staff, and vibe. Saw Jordan Coburn and Ryan Hicks tonight ( who were so funny) and other very talented entertainers. The staff are friendly and the beer is cold. Thats a perfect evening out.
Great spot to catch local acts. Requires tickets, Vaccine or negative test, and there’s a two-drink minimum. Saw some really funny guys. They’re also strict about not engaging with the talent.
The night I was there they had a great comedian and the drinks were pretty darn good. Lous music was great . The mixed drinks were about $10-$15 and as usual there is a two drink minimum… There was plenty of space as its a fairly large comedy club
The acts were great. I just didnt like that fact the womens restroom only had 1 out of 2 stalls working. The floors were unevenly broken which you had to be careful with heels on. I mentioned to staff about the one stall not working and they seemed too busy to care women had to crowd and wait to use the bathroom.
Drinks are overpriced, the fat server lady is rude, chairs are very uncomfortable. Comedians are ussually top notch though. Over all a good time
We recently saw AGTS 2018 Finalist Comedian, Vicki Barbolak. OMG she was hysterical, great comedic timing. There were 3 other comedians before Vickis headline act. It was a packed house. The staff, ushers, bouncers and cocktail staff were excellent. Worked the room well and everyone had their drinks (which were name brands I might add) and munchies well in advance of the show beginning. We had a party if 4, accommodations were good, however seating was a little cramped. But not horribly overcrowded.Cocktail waitress was very accommodating snapping pictures before hand for our group. No cell phones, heckling or rude behavior during the performances (dah!). We were given photo opportunity after the performance which was nice. Definately would recommend and will go again, parking can be a little dicey but there is lot parking behind The Comedy Store.
This place would have been amazing if the bouncer didnt interrupt the show to tell my friend and I to move. Why could this not have been done before the show started? Or at the very least in between comedians. I will unfortunately never go back as long as that bouncer is there. He ruined our show and our night.
Great stage, always has good performers, drinks are priced fair. Front door guy can be abrasive but its expected. The security is tight. The place only servers popcorn for food so eat before you go. Joey Diaz is a regular; say no more.
What a gem the Comedy Store is! It is special to have such a happening place right in town that locals can walk to, where you can get a good laugh -- many, many of them (which in and of itself is priceless in this day and age) -- and a choice of two cocktails, glasses of wine, or something nonalcoholic, in a casual L.A. club atmosphere. I have enjoyed going to the Comedy Store for many years (always on the weekend). Humor is a personal thing, and not all styles of humor are for everyone, but there is no doubt that these very funny professionals give their all to the audience through their honed craft. If you dont care to be surprised or youre feeling unsure about the headliner comedians style, you can always Google or look for them on YouTube to see what their style is ahead of time. We all love a reason to laugh, and I highly recommend that you get yours at the La Jolla Comedy Store!
A classic San Diego comedy club. Great acts from southern California and around the country. Good selection of beer wine and cocktails. Get on the mailing list so you can be notified of free tickets. Its also close by so many great restaurants. Be sure to eat before you go. The only food served is popcorn. There is a 2 drink per person minimum.
The place is an older comedy club that is run down but hosts some great stand ups. Two drink minimum, but you can get popcorn or non alcoholic drinks. They jam the seats in so you could be elbow to elbow with strangers.
Fun spot. Decent prices considering they force you to buy two drinks. Somebody needs to tell the bouncer he works for a comedy club in La Jolla. He seems to think hes manning a FOB gate in Afghanistan. Super tough guy. LOL.
The bartenders were gracious, the drinks werent overpriced, and the comedy was outstanding! If you ever have an opportunity to see Nate Craig, Chris Fairbanks, Brady Novak, Jim Hamilton, or Corey Higgs live, I highly recommend it!
Always a sure bet for a fun night out. We saw Chris Franjola here a few days ago and he was hilarious! Casual atmosphere, not a huge venue, 2 drink min per person. there is some real talent coming through here!
The comedians were very good, very funny with polished timing or a great take on the topic. One in particular took his topic, being gay, to a level the entire audience could enjoy.
Really fun date night. Went on a Sunday for Regular Irregulars, show was free. 2 drink minimum. Sort of pricey drinks $11-14 per cocktail. Wait staff was a bit slow but it was kind of busy.
Typical comedy club, overpiced two drink minimum, but dont expect much. They were not serving hot drinks and only had coke and sprite for soft drinks. The act was great! See Erik Griffin if you have the chance, go, you will not be disappointed.
Went for Mothers Day show and we all know it meant alot to Pauly to be that night. Great show! Pauly Shore is that man , so damn funny! I was honored to be to there ...
Awesome Comedians!Parking is difficult for two Physically -Handicapped Seniors as my Dear Husband had to move his car from The Vons Parking Lot and missed half - of the Show! There were surely Lots of Laughs, however there was almost no Vodka in my three drinks as it tasted like pure Cranberry Juice!Other than those two complaints, I would still recommend going to The Comedy Store in La Jolla.
Saw Rafi Bastos on Friday night 7/29. Sooo funny!Thank you.Love the intimate feel of this place.
Comedian lineups can get really good depending on when you go. But usually always something worth it on weekends. $20 for a ticket but also a 2 drink minimum per PERSON. So that can add up.
Doorman was pretty rude. Gave two stars because waitress were quick getting our drinks. Not sure I will come back to same location. Show was great though. Plenty of laughs.
Really cool spot. No cover service was fast and the comics are bad to excellent. Every style and joke type is done here, if you dislike one set stick around; theres someone here that will hit on a style/topic you find comical!
If I could I would give this place a -5 rating. The Nazi doorman has zero personality and zero customer service skills. The manager has no managerial skills. They pack you in like sardines. The decor is out dated and dingy. The drinks are over priced and low quality alcohol. Do yourself a favor and save yourself the hassle.
Great show great popcorn and great service
Best comedy place Ive ever been to. Reasonable prices, great comedy, and an intimate setting. My one and only complaint, and I dont take them down a notch for it, is the live music played before the show, while good, is way to loud if you sit next to the band.
Not too shabby. The comics make this place, as well as the pianist/announcer - great stuff. The beer selection was decent, mixed drinks were average. Price is very reasonable.
The comics were a lot of fun but the people who worked there were not interested in customer service at all. They were very short with customers and the waitress walked through the entire place, loudly taking orders while the main comic was up. I was pretty disappointed by the comedy store but not by the comics.
Great line up of comedians. Seating super tight tho. Bring a jacket they cool it way down, perhaps a bit to much
My experience from entry to exit was disarmed from the horrific and aggressive bouncer that made me question where I was spending my money. I was interrogated at entry beyond the typical protocol of reviewing my credentials. It’s a place I planned to spend money and laugh not defend my right to participate in a social occasion. With all the opportunity to view comedy online for free, I would have hopped for more care to the thespians. #boycotthisbouncer
The show here was absolutely amazing I have never seen stand up comedy before but I know I want to go again. The only thing wrong here is there customer service. Idk who the waitress working tonight was or care to ask a name in my mistake of enjoying myself but I know there is a two drink minimum and there is no reason to harass me about it. I sat through an entire set and couldnt enjoy myself. Of course I couldnt stay mad. Great set you guys
Such friendly staff and the comics were so funny!! This place is iconic! I dont know a soul whos been and had something bad to say about it. Tickets and drinks are fairly priced.
Great atmosphere, and Annie Lederman rocked! Great price for such close quarters with the entertainment!
Best comedy club in San Diego in my option. I come here at least twice a month for the last few years. The comedians arent as well known here which is a good thing if you follow comedy. Theyre also free to work the crowd more and try out new material. Tickets are free if you sign up for their mailing list.
The show is good, the space - nothing exciting, drinks are pricey and the only thing to eat is popcorn. The face control is a scary, big, type with no sense of humor, whose normal way of speaking is like scolding - surprising choice for a comedy club.
I originally wrote my review as a quick quip to note behavior that I found shocking but thought may have been a one off situation. However, after reading fellow patrons reviews I have become aware that the assaulting and aggressive behaviour that I experienced by the bouncer has been well noted by others. Some of the reviews noting the bouncers harresment of guests without warning or clear understanding to why were posted over a year ago. In my opinion the actions of the Bouncer who attacked our table in an incoherent mess of a way - was justified for adjustments in his position. Now knowing this is his M.O. I am schocked that any established would not only allow for this but clearly condone it. There were witnesses and fellow staff that saw this man stand in the corner and pump his fists in my direction when I quietly got up to address the confrontion with another staff memeber- the man was yelling. He approached our table asking questions that seemed to make no sense to myself or my party/ he never addressed who he was or why he approached during an act - and seemed to get angry when I told him I was uncomfortable with him standing so closely to me in the corner of the dark club. He raised his arms - sensitivity training is clearly needed- I am beyond appalled and very annoyed I didn’t get money back- the entire experience was ruined. If we were not meant to sit were we wear sitting the tables should have been labeled as resevered and we should have potliely told before the show started no man handled during the act.The acts were funny and the wait staff was great but the rest of the staff was abhorrent and rude. The bouncer was extra awful and ruined the whole experience for me and my fiend. I have never had such an uncomfortable, unprofessional experience.
Open mic was really fun, and so was friends and family. I had a great time and staff was excellent. I will definitely be back
I’ve never written a review before but also never been this ticked off about an establishment and how it’s run. I was very much looking forward to seeing Whitney Cummings perform. I’m a big fan and didn’t realize she was in town until a day before. Tickets were sold out so I did what everyone does and turned to Stubhub to find tickets. Sure enough there were two left so I snatched them up. Got to the venue at the La Jolla Comedy store and had a shockingly disrespectful experience. I dealt with a complete jerk. Beyond rude. They don’t accept stubhub bought tickets and they acted disgusted that I had bought tickets off of stubhub. I have purchased tickets through stubhub (a billion dollar company) for years and never ever ever had an issue or been turned away from any venue big or small. I have a marketing company with hundreds of employees who we buy raffle prizes often for different events going on in town. I can say that the La Jolla Comedy Store will be one venue we will never buy tickets from again. I would advise anyone else who asks to take their business elsewhere.
Folks wont accept international ids (wont admit you into the show) and its not mentioned anywhere on eventbrite or the printed tickets that you need to get passports. They have already turned away 3 people in front of us. What a way to earn free money.BTW, everyone who mentioned about the doorman being idiot... they are absolutely correct.Note : this is a review of the location and not the comedians who perform here.
If there was -5* review, This Place Would deserved it! The doorman is like from the horror movie, no emotions and talking skills. The comedians are great, but the customer service is the worst I have ever experienced in United States. Drinks are overpriced and management has no managerial skills!
Went to Lou Brockmans 25th anniversary celebration and it was awesome! So many great comedians, amazing variety of both performers and spectators. Headliner Vicki Barbolak, Lous wife and Americas Got Talent standout, was amazing and I got a great picture with her. Never pass up a chance to catch a show here!
I like the intimate setting. Huge deal breakers for me is that they dont have food. Other than that it was ok. Took long to get drinks. Then server did not come back around.
Love this place, we go a lot! The only thing we dont like is those uncomfortable chairs theyve had forever! My butt and back are usually aching by the time were halfway through the show. Everything else is awesome!!
Absolutely best time! Staff is amazing ! Attended open mike night. So many great sets! Loved it!
OMG, This couldnt have been worse. I have gone to comedy clubs my whole adult life, and frequent the Comedy Sore and Improv in Hollywood. This is an embarrassment. Either get pros or close your doors. But these hacks are embarrassing.
Had a great night with my wife. VIP tickets for Mal Hal & Anjelah Johnson. You cant go wrong! Only issue i had was the damn light in my face lol. Other than that we had a blast.
Came here once for a stand up. Wont be able to say who was here. But, it was good and funny. The drinks are as expected. Parking is always a problem because its street parking. Recommend that you start looking from about a mile away and park in the first spot you find.
Comedians are funny but staff was rude. Seriously only half of the room was full but they would not let us spread out a bit to have a little more leg room and I am 6’5”. Observe the obvious.
TSA accepts my passport that expired 2 months ago but this special place will not. Rude and incompetent. Not recommended. Keep your overpriced tickets and drinks. Ill make sure to never walk in this place.
The PREMIERE Comedy Club in San Diego with house hold names from television and the silver screen. In a part of town where you can have any type of fun you want, and cap it All off with a good laugh. You can find a great discount if you sign up for their online always via email and get updates about their amazing supposed they have nightly.
I have been there 3 times over the last year and each time the SAME opener/host has the SAME jokes.. walks like a duck talks like a duck? Angry old man? 3 times and different shows!! How can he possibly not have new material?? Waste of time and $$. Fortunately the other acts and headliners make up for it. Great waitstaff too.
You love to go and support the comedians but hate 2 drink minimum. $6 for bottle water and $5 popcorn
Amazing! Loved the staff and the performers! Everything was perfect. Great venue. Look forward to next time!
Really nice classic two drink minimum style comedy club. Ive seen some national headliners here but I think what really shines is the locals. I think this is the local hub for up and coming comedians. Ive seen a number of repeats but theyre the kind of locals that have new bits in each act. The only thing that detracts is that it is in La Jolla, so getting there is a pain and then parking. Driving to a two drink minimum place seems kind of lame but there are a ton of cheap motels around. Or have a DD. Simple enough problem to solve, but you are going a long and specific way to have mandatory drinks.
Always good. Well-run classy place. Always a good time. Jalen berries but thats for you to decide before you go. This place is a perfect place to take a date and just enjoy yourself I loved it often
Such an awesome night out! Have a couple drinks or dinner near by and walk to an amazing comedy fill night. Wait for a popular comic to come visit or take a chance to see a relatively unknown comic, you cant go wrong either way!
I didnt love the surprise charges and the popcorn was absolutely disgusting, but we go for the comedy, right? The acts were far better than I expected.
Great talent and decently priced drinks
Good mules here, the Mandarin one was my dates favorite. Great size for a comedy show, not too large, not too small. Bar in the front to relax before/after the show.
It was great! I laughed so hard! I know thats the comedian not the place but the service was great. The chairs are a little uncomfortable but other than that I had zero complaints!
Have your ID at the door ready, the greeter is big, stern and does not like to mess around. Once inside it was clean. We had great servie and a fun time!
The inside is very old and grimey, for being in such a nice location they could do with some renovation or at least a carpet/upholstery cleaning.
I took a date here and most of the comedy was pretty good. Overall it was a good experience. If you get on their email list they send you a code to get free tickets every now and then
Bought VIP tickets for a 7pm show on a Thursday. They said the show was sold out so we had to share a table with another couple and it took over 45 minutes for them to take our drink order
One of my favorite places to see live stand-up comedy in the country. Super laid back vibe in a place steeped in comedy history. Brings some of the countries best comedians. A must visit for comedy lovers
Bouncer on the door (apparently the manager) was very unpleasant and did not accept our Irish driving licences as a form of ID. Passports only for non Americans.
We saw Jason Lawhead- hilarious! Great spot, friendly staff and despite it being cold outside they made the best of the space to continue having shows! We had a blast
Thursday night with the savages was great. Good sets. Light crowd but the comedians made good with it. 2 drink min with reasonable pricing.
Had a great experience at the Craig Conant show.Quick service, funny comedians! The seating was a bit tight and uncomfortable.
The preshow piano player had great banter with the crowd, and was more fun than the opening act. The headliner was top notch!
The comedy is always fun, but I wish they could serve up anything to eat there. I would want to stay longer and drink more if I werent hungry through the shows.
Comic named Ifty hit it our of the park. Excellent. Top tier comedian!!
Worst experience ever. The staff was horrible and the comedians were too. They lied about who was going. I would not recommend.
Excellent comedians come down from the sister location in LA. A lot of new material, very cozy and tasteful interior. Full service bar, not a place for dinner, light snacks available.
Get there early to sit in the middle section. Sitting in back the voices are distorted. They have the volume way too loud. They are demanding that everyone pays for 2 drinks. The show was very nice.
Was there with a date. The first impression was the rude idiot at the door that spoke to us as of we were being processes into detention.Of all the acts only 2 were funny, the others simply werent.I would expect more from an entertainment venue that is in lajolla.
Kinda really crowded but I think its really great that they have some affordable drinks! Water is $5 but so is soda so, why not?
Always an enjoyable evening out. There is a two-drink minimum, but the prices are reasonable, not to mention the fact that you can order non-alcoholic beverages.
All of th comedians were funny, but Tony baker was excellent. My wife loves him and I think hes funny
Didn’t get to see the show because the club requires passports as a valid form of ID for non-Americans (it doesn’t say this on their tickets)
Went on last Saturday in May 2016. All lead ins and main act were awesome! Always like going there when visiting San Diego.
I love the atmosphere, as well as the drinks. Most of the comedians are great. Always leave feeling better than when I came in.
Funny as hell... VERY VERY COLD inside. The security and attitude of the staff is a little off-putting but Id go again. Good drinks!
The comedians were great. It is a shame that the staff is so incredibly rude. From the doorman to all the male staff inside, there was a noticeable lack of customer service.
Great comedy. Great service. Absolute fun.
The back alley is great - love being to see live shows in person again! @malhall was great, so were the opening acts @nickhoffcomedy and @leoflowers2000 !
The most iconic comedy club in San Diego with a legendary history of comics that have graces the stage there.
The comics are great, the security is really terrible. I would recommend finding the comics at a different venue.
A nice small place to watch well-known and up and coming comedians, show their talent, on the small stage
