I was there a couple days ago for the TWRP concert. They put on an awesome show, but the venue obviously overbooked the place. It was PACKED. I didnt even lay eyes on the drummer until the last 15 min of the show, due to the sea of 6 tall people in front of my 52 view. There is no slope to the floor, just sardine like conditions, ensuring Id only catch fleeting glimpses of the other band mates as they moved around on stage. (The pictures I got were from holding my phone up above my head.)
Fantastic place The service at Skullys Music-Diner was top-notch, with friendly and attentive waitstaff. Overall, I highly recommend Skullys to anyone seeking a fun and lively spot to enjoy a great meal and live music.Pros:- Delicious food- Fun and eclectic atmosphere- Live music- Friendly service- Generous portion sizesSkullys Music-Diner is a must-visit destination for anyone looking for a unique dining experience that combines great food, music, and atmosphere!
Ive always loved independent places that arent big chains and Skullys is THE BEST place to go for a night out! They are always supporting small/up coming artists and all around they have a great atmosphere ❤️❤️
My sisters and I were there before the reggae band was present.. so it wasn’t a lot of people there but we still decided to get shots. We decided to go across the street because the bartender told us the live band wasn’t going to be there for another two hours… and before we left an older security guard TOLD US to COME BACK. So we decided to and that is what one of my sisters were trying to explain at the front door… but it was NO problem PAYING. Wayne, a security guard there, escalated the situation to a WHOLE other situation….Wayne verbally abused us, strangled me , hit my sister and yelled at my other sister and her boyfriend when he was simply trying to explain that it was that kind of situation. The other security has no decorum and no empathy for us, describing Wayne ( the security officer that attacked us ) as “his boy” basically telling us to get out… his word over ours. Police report has been filed.
Attended a concert in December of 2022 and purchased meet and greet tickets for the artist performing, after the show had ended they told everyone that was waiting for the meet and greet that it was off because too many people were on the stage during the show and the show went on too long. Never even got a refund. Its a shame how people that wanted the meet and greet got punished because of the venues inability to coordinate a concert/ hire proper security to actually do their job and keep people from going on stage. Aside from issues related to meet and greet, the concert was amazing.
Great place to see a show and get a bite to eat. Very clean, well-maintained. The only issue for me is the lack of seating in the concert area. They do tell you this when you buy online tickets, so youve been warned
I attended the Scarface concert last night and everything was so professional. I appreciated the security who actually checked individuals to ensure safety. The opening acts and DJ were really talented and I was entertained and Scarface did not disappoint at all as he was genuine and appreciative to the fans. This being his farewell tour made it even more special for me since it was my uncle was passed away that introduced me to his music!!! Great venue
I recently visited Skullys Music Diner and was thoroughly impressed! Skullys have a great atmosphere you get a vibrant and electric feeling with a perfect blend of live music and people there.
Went for the Jesus piece and sanguisugabogg show. Crazy packed and overbooked. Everyone had to funnel in on one side of the bar to be able to see the stage. I’ve been to a lot of crowded shows before and this was insanely uncomfortable and shoulder to shoulder. The entire front area was where the only seating is and was completely empty because there was no view of the stage. There is no way it’s safe for emergencies and definitely not handicap friendly (maybe on a slow night) with that many people there. One guy in a wheelchair was forced to be up against a wall and people kept tripping over his wheelchair trying to get through. Lots of wasted space not being utilized and the floor/bar area needs opened up more.
Saw the Spill Canvas here. Was nervous because I saw some reviews of the the place being super crowded and not being able to see, but had the opposite experience. We were able to get close to the stage without being too sardined in with others. Staff were friendly.
First off, this currently is NOT a diner, despite what the name says. They closed the kitchen 4 years ago and have not reopened it. So dont do like me and go planning on eating while you enjoy the music. The front section has booths and tables similar to a 50s or 60s diner where you cant hear the music well. They have a well stocked bar.Down a short hall is the music area. The floor is about half the size of a gym floor with a stage across one side. The sound was good.2 things I didnt likeFirst, there is no seething in the music room, so you have to stand the whole time.Second, they allow vaping. There was so much that there was a haze in the room and my throat hurt for 2 days.
Tonight the security officers strangled my younger sisters, unprovoked. We are here to buy drinks and invited back from the reggae band security. We were there to celebrate her new arrival. He hit both of my sisters. There needs to be a change in security and/or property management. Security Guard Wayne was the aggressor.
Skullys is THE best! Great staff, great set up, ALWAYS great times. Absolutely a unique and irreplaceable music institution. Always so excited to be there, feels like family!
Old & aggressive men work here. If you’re a woman and don’t enjoy being yelled at or hit - run. I swear it was terrifying. Maybe aggression related to dementia, drugs, a huge lack of emotional regulation, definitely a lack of self awareness. It kind of felt like some of those ex military men or police who can’t control themselves anymore and miss fighting and having a sense of authority. Again, run.
This place is great! Good selection on beer and alcohol, easy access to street parking, upstairs and outdoor seating, and lots of events to attend. Came here for a show and its got a lot of room so you wont feel crowded. It sucks that the road is being worked on at the time being but there were lots of places to park on the street. Will definitely be back!
Went to this venue to see angel hill and caskey they didnt check my tickets, they booked way too many opener acts. Angel hill only got to play 3 songs and main act caskey got his set cut short he had to keep asking to get the sound turned back on for 1 more song, then the venue cut the sound as soon as the song ended.
I usually go here for either Space Camp or Ladies 80s. I have also attended for other concerts as well. The parking isnt great so, if you can, carpool or get there early. The last time my friends and I went to Ladies 80s, the DJ was not great. I think he may be a new DJ than who they had before. He played a lot of songs that were definitely 80s, but not bangers. He may be new, so no worries.
Skullys was a great place! We ended up going because Bull Winkles was closed down for some reason on a Saturday night 🤔 such good vibes
I wouldnt havent even given this place 1 star if I didnt have to choose between 1 and 5 stars. This place has the absolute RUDEST employees. We went there for a concert.. the bar tender kept yelling about there being another bar up front because she had too many customers. The sound guy literally argued with the artist and then muted him. While the artist was on stage. Then the security guy was mad about the meet and greet because they needed to set up for another show. They just have no customer service skills what so ever. The drinks were not good drinks. All in all it was just a horrible experience. The show was great.. the venue, not so much!!!
Didn’t even get the opportunity to enter because they were charging $20 per person and every where else was free. So I went directly opposite and got me some drinks and had a good time!
Never been to a hardcore show that’s been overbooked as severely as the Jesus Piece and Sanguisugabogg tour. Obnoxious security, as when a guy hits me and my friend in the throat (normal occurrence for hardcore shows), security pulls the guy away from me like he did something wrong. Security tells me and my friend to “stay away, seriously”. Venue is too packed to do so.
I love skullys. Always a good time. Good drinks good food great live music events. There is nothing not to love about skullys. Ive been going there for at least 15 years.
Staff is rude. There are betters venues and bars in Columbus. Patronize them instead. The bathroom are pretty bad. The doors dont work. Bring a buddy to hold the door.
Been to a few shows here in the past year. They need to move the bar to the far left wall and open it up. The visibility to the stage is awful. The corridor from the front to the back stacks up with a full floor and ya cant see anything. Front is wasted space cause if youre there for a show, ya wont be up there. Bathrooms need an update. Small, dark, cold and dirty beyond belief. Wont see go agin even if my.most sought after show is there.
Another bogus pay to play venue. Steer clear, they tried to scam $550 from a small touring act. Do not give them your business.
I was here in Sept 2022 for the Front 242 show. No issues with checking in and getting the wrist band since there were no actual tickets. Was even allowed to leave to go across the street to the burger joint and come back. Show was great. Very small stage and venue overall so that made my 1st time seeing 242 even better. My only concern was the lack of security screening. There was absolutely no checking of bags and purses, no wanding of anyone. In todays environment of high crime and such and especially with this venues location, they really need to have security measures in place. You can bet I had my escape route planned as I was waiting for the show to start.
Not the same anymore. Back in 2019/2020 there was good vibes and positivity everywhere. The last few shows Ive been to at Skullys in the past year and a half something bad has happened. Weather someone tried to steal my painting from me, another girl was acting super disrespectful over the rail and acted like she owned it even though she was just standing in front of it and not even dancing. It makes me sad because really good edm DJs come here and the bass is LIIIIIT and the lights have been upgrading. But the crowd is not the same anymore. I dont see that many real wooks anymore either. 😕 It breaks my heart because some of my favorite DJs play here and I love hanging out in the smoking section. But Im never going back here again because of the kind of crowd I have been dealing with here lately. Bluestone is way better 🤷♀️
Always a good time!! Love that the smoking area is out back and not on the street like some places.
Great place to hang out, enjoy live music 🎶 and have a drink. Being a Diner, we expected they would have food, but they dont.
If youre a single woman, there are sooo many creeps. They do make strong drinks but not worth it for the money and dont be surprised if your debit/credit card or ID get lost and you get charged way more for your tab. Pretty much stay away unless you want to risk your safety. The area surrounding isnt great and its equally the same inside. For the bands that play there, the sound guys are the worst in this city and Skullys takes almost all of the money the bands earn. Too bad because the venue is cool but its a total wash. I wish someone would buy this place out and make it a great place to go. It would be closed by now but they just feed off new college students who want to get drunk and totally take advantage of their situation. Seriously, be careful and please leave a review of your experience because this needs to stop.
They picked a good band. That alone gives us the five stars.
So I came here to see Haarper, sinister and Sxmpra perform. Its a nice little place located close to ohio state university. From what Im told they normally have food but the people I went to see are more of a jumping mosh pit style of music so there wasnt any food available. They had the bar open though so that was a big plus and it brings me to the reason why I didnt give a 5 star...it was crazy hot the whole time we were in there. Every performer said something about it and needed alot of water to help them get through it. And a person literally had to be taken outside from how hot it was! But luckily the security was fast and helped and got her some water. But when I got the bar for some water i was expecting 2 cold bottles of water...no 2 small cups of water...but hopefully the take better measures to realize it gets hot and sometimes people may need water if they dont have money. Overall though Id highly recommend going here to see anyone live the sound system is good and everyone is very professional...now I gotta come back and try the food.
To be a music venue I was highly disappointed in the fact that they were unable to not only pull up my purchased tickets from an online purchase, but they were also unable to take cash for payment after making me re-purchase two new tickets.Super unprofessional to not be able to use an ID, email, and the physical credit card I used to buy said tickets, in order to pull up my ticket information at the door- after having lost my phone earlier in the day. Will not be coming back to a venue that is behind in such simple tech.
Jim was Amazing and so accommodating to everyone. Its hard to find venues with workers who care about patrons and take time out of their busy shift to answer any questions/concerns. I hope there are more concerts I am able to go to at Skullys just for the staff.
Here to see Southern Culture on the Skids. Skullys no longer has food, just an FYI. Doors opened at 7pm. I asked if there was any seating and was told chairs could be brought in from the dining area and placed along the wall but no seating in front of the stage. Also there is seating upstairs. We pulled chairs over to the railing and had great seats. Everyone was so friendly and accommodating. I’m completely impressed. Often bars that have concerts have uninterested bar tenders and staff. Not here. Everyone went out of there way to make sure we were happy. The bar tender upstairs was awesome!! The opening band came on stage promptly at 8. Good band, good vocals. I’m listening to them now so I haven’t heard SCOTS yet, but hey, we know they will be great.
Came here for a crankdat concert in January 2023. the venue is intimate, but very cramped if it’s a busy night. that wasn’t very nice and you could tell they were trashed.
I had a great time here for a packed event. The event space is fantastic, I love the overhead balcony.Parking InformationSkully’s does not have designated customer parking. There is a city lot with meters to the north of our location; there is also street parking (metered & free) in the surrounding areaBag PolicyNo Large Bags or Backpacks Permitted. Small Purses will be searched and permitted at the discretion of the venue.
Love this place !!! Jim was so amazing and welcoming to all of us waiting for the show and gave us access to the restroom and welcomed us all. The venue is amazing and it’s a safe and fun area to spend the day!! Highly recommend!!!
It was cool went for reggae night. I didnt now they lost their lead ,but still good vibes
Really solid concerts. We had a blast, but be careful on the second floor. Im not sure if they clean the wooden floor properly, and it is absurdly slippery. The one night we went there were people falling all over the place. Lovely atmosphere, but make sure youre vaxxed.
Place smells of urine. Shut the power off during the main acts performance.
Had a pretty bad experience here. According to the tickets, the show was supposed to start at 6 but they didn’t open the doors until 6 so everyone got there hella early and we were stuck out in the cold. The sound was trash and the first performers mic kept cutting out, they completely ruined his set and messed up the whole vibe. Lights on stage cut out completely several times during the performances. Would not recommend this place for performers or concert goers. Could’ve just been a bad night for them but their whole business is to provide a good venue for a show and they did not do that
This venue is a huge dumpster fire. Its disgusting, falling apart, the staff are super rude, the sound quality is terrible. I would rather not see my favorite bands if they decide to play here. I will never be back and neither will my friends and family. The King of Clubs on Busch Blvd is an excellent venue. Im glad they opened. Hopefully they will put worthless venues like skullys out of business.
Had such a amazing time here! Jim made us extremely welcome and was a pleasure to talk with! This guy needs a raise! Such a wonderful environment. Definitely recommend coming here.
Skullys, man I was highly disappointed. This must go to attraction, was a nightmare. Website details are entirely outdated. Plywood on front door, they closed down their diner, no heat, so I didnt even stay for the show.
The music could be more hip-hop and r&b I didnt recognize any of the music except 2 songs . No real dancing going on just a lot of jumping up and down .
We got to see The Red Jumpsuit Apperatus here and di the VIP seating. The venue was smaller than what I expected but that packed us in for an awesome concert. We were pretty much able to reach and touch the band(which I had to restrain my wife from doing lol). We were right up on the stage front row. There isnt really seating standing only but again it was awesome. Venue dud a get job hosting.
An event was listed as being $10. Even came up as $10 when I went to order from Event Brite. I chose to get at the door in lieu of a $2 fee. We were then charged $20 EACH at the door. The only stall door that closes properly in the women’s room is the handicapped one. Although it closes, it doesn’t lock. The bartender was rude. The only thing positive about the place is the sound. If it weren’t for wanting to support the band playing, I would NEVER set foot in this place. TERRIBLE
Drinks are pricey but the bartenders are super nice.
Literally, my favorite Music venue in the short North Columbus !!!!
Went during the Kpop Club Night and it was an absolute blast, the dj was awesome and the bartenders were kind and fast. Will definitely be back!
Extremely disappointed with my experience here. Our tickets stated that the show started at 6, so we got to the venue around 5. Online, Skullys hours are listed as opening at 1. However, when we arrived we had to wait outside in the cold until they opened the doors at 6. As a music venue, they should know the difference between when doors open & when the show starts. & if you open at 1pm, why were the doors locked upon arrival for over an hour?We couldn’t even get a drink before the show. Then, when the opener finally was on stage, the sound was completely off and he had to change his whole set because of them not being able to fix the sound for him. The sound was still majorly off for when the headliner performed, AND the lights completely cut off, I mean an entirely dark room, twice during the set. Worst vibe of any show I’ve been to.
Performing here was awesome the sound was beautiful and then venue itself was sweet would definitely want to come back
Hello recently went here feb 15 to see the BabyTron concert with my 3 friends. We purchased tickets and they didn’t believe us. One of the people up front checking our tickets then said “goodbye losers”. We will never be coming here again. I hope we can get this person fired.
Wouldve been nice to be informed of the vaccination policy. Im fighting to get my money back for these tickets. IDC if its up to the performer to inform us, ( Ive emailed them as well) but it should be on your website vaccination /test requirements vary depending on the performers there was nothing. Ive been looking forward to this night for months. Really sucks and feels like a big scam
Cool venue for a cool concert. Caught TWRP there a few years ago and it was probably my favorite ever concert.
This place rocks! Best venue to see a band at anywhere. Foods good too!! Owners are cool.
My main, personal dealbreaker here is that they dont serve free water. Its a totally unexcusable safety risk just so they can make extra money off bottled water. I have female friends that have told me that they have been repeatedly groped here and none of the venue employees will help them. Those facts, along with the location being a minor pain, mean that the only time I will usually go here is if a traveling artist I wanna see is playing.
Great sound, nice layout, friendly staff. Excellent place to see a show.My only suggestion is that the dance floor could use some texture. I nearly slipped on the beer soaked floor leaving the venue after a sold out show... otherwise, great!
Great service Fabulous Food!!! Thank you Skully’s for a Sunday to remember!
We had a group of 20 that came into dance for 80s night. We just wanted to dance to 80s music. The songs that were played were not well known songs of the 80s. We requested songs such as Whitney Houston and Journey only to be told that they didnt have any songs by them. Really? I asked a bar tender if I could speak to a manager. I waited. I was ignored. So another bar tender asked what I needed. I told him that I would like to speak to a manager to ask about the 80s music. I was told that if I didnt like the music that I should leave. He pointed to the entrance and told me to get out. I was told that they have been playing this music for 80s music for years. As someone who grew up in the 80s, the music played was not representative of the music of that time period. I was not being rude. I just wanted to speak to someone about the music and the DJ was not being receptive to requests. Our group was very disappointed because we really wanted to have some fun dancing to popular 80s music. That bartender was extremely aggressive and the manner in which he conducted himself was unacceptable. If you are going to have an 80s dance night, please pick music that is truly 80s dance music.
No food, no chairs... good sound. I wont be back.
Amazing atmosphere and great staff. The bartenders are especially awesome at trying new drinks and are really good at giving suggestions to those who dont know what they want
We enjoy the space here. Although it can get a little over crowded on the right night. We may love the food trucks outside more than the club atmosphere itself. ...Were old!! But weve never had a problem here. Nice staff. Clean place. Nice patio area. Hard to park here when its crowded.
Great shows, courteous staff, excellent pricing
Ladies 80s the best for years and yearsLive it!!
Very spacious, everyone was nice, plenty of seating despite the crowd. It was a very wonderful experience overall, I would definitely recommend.
Went to see Front 242 play. Merch only took cash so tried using atm inside which was not working but yet still tried to take it out of my account, so beware. Bartenders were super nice trying to keep up. One of the bartenders had to come to my resue and throw a guy out because he was drunk and wouldnt leave me alone even with my husband by my side.
Went to concert here , drinks are cheap . Definitely small place
Just got back from a wonderful CD release party with great bands and great performances and an audience that encouraged both.Things must be erratic because we had none of the bad experiences that some people complain of, altho I am sure they are reporting what their experiences were. We ordered food at 9:30, 30 minutes before the kitchen closed, and it was delivered with courtesy. It was what you would expect at a music diner. A reasonably good burger with maybe over-peppered string french fries.Drinks were delivered with courtesy, and when we asked for more tonic in our gin and tonics, we got it without a problem. We asked for water at the bar and got it without anyone saying anything negative about it. Ditto when we asked for ginger ale instead of continuing with alcohol. The venue is great for the music, but it is not large. Full mirrors on the walls make the place seem larger than it is, but they do also have a small balcony area to watch the show from. The music area is separate from the small dining area--a dance floor with no seating. Excellent speakers but amped too high, I think. It is a good idea to bring earplugs, in case you need them.Based on only one visit, I thought this was a really good music venue, better than the vast majority that we have in Austin, where I also live.
Update:The number given by the owner goes to a full mailbox that no one answers. The number on the website never has anyone answer. Both emails listed including the one the owner gave me have not sent any replies. Where is my money owner????? Im obviously getting the runaround. Next step is the Better Business BureauThanks for having an event through a ticket vendor that didnt list the required covid test or vaccination card for entry. I would have had the test if it was written literally ANYWHERE in the information given to me when I purchased my tickets. Thanks for wasting my time and money because you are too incompetent to put that on your ticket as required for entry. Now Im glad I missed the show and didnt hangout there. No more of my money for you.
Great place for people who love bands and drinks. Right on campus near several other venues. Sunday night for reggae is the best time to go. Just be careful if folks have Monday off cause it will be at CAPACITY.
Really awful communication. In line, guy yelled at us all and told us to get out either our vaccine card or proof of a negative COVID test and our ID. I was lucky I had my vax card on me, but my partner did not. The guy yelled out again that we shouldve gotten and email stating that we needed a negative test or vax to get in. I got no email, and if I did, it was probably months ago and went to spam. NOTHING on their website says anything about covid info. Hell, their calendar page is empty. On their Instagram they said to check the ticket issuers website for covid info. Nothing there either, and nothing stated when I bought the tickets. I know for a fact I am not the only one who went through this same thing at this same concert, Ive seen posts from others on the artists blog. Wasted 6 months of anticipation to see one of my idols only to have to leave because I wasnt comfortable going into this dump by myself without my partner, who couldnt even be let in with a mask on the whole time. Improve your communication, update us, be active on your website, honor your guests. Walked away crying. oh, also, not getting my $50 back :/
Nice little place. Very personable. Came here for the Cash & Maverick show. Good food and very friendly staff. Easy parking right next door. The street is under construction, but hey, its Ohio! Lol. Would recommend stopping in for a burger and fries or Mac and cheese bites. They also have all day breakfast. 10/10 would recommend.
I love this place. I got tickets to see my favourite musician, meet him, and attend his sound check. It was the most intimate, treasured experience I have ever had. I got him to write in me and I hopped over to the tattoo parlor across the street before the concert to have it done. He signed my guitar and took a photo with me, and took the time to actually get to know me. While I was waiting for the actual concert after my tattoo, the musician I liked sat right next to my partner and I in the booth beside with his other bandmates and crew members. It was dreamlike... amd I am not even old enough to drink. The concert was spectacular and I pretty much cried the whole time. I could not have had this experience without Skullys. I came all the way from Toronto and I was not let down. Also, the food was not bad. During the day it is pretty calm but at night it is like a whole other places. I also like how the cash desk is filled with fake ids. Love it. The people there are very friendly and it is in a super good location, right on the strip where there are other cool stores (such as Magnolia Thunderpussy). Feels like a classic diner with a nightclub twist.
I sat waiting for 6 hours, to watch a performance to only watch them be bumped from 5pm to 7:30pm to not performing at all. Whole other performers weren’t ready taking 15-20 minutes to set up or showed up late as hell. There were huge delays when performing should have been happening! However is in charge of the performers (specifically Sunday) and booking them needs to tell them you are bumped if you are late. PERIOD. Then as the people I waited to see finally were able to go on, they pulled the plug, and not able to perform. I understand with Covid-19 regulations things have to be wrapped up at a specific time; however, having said that, this is why timeliness should be the expectation.I WILL NEVER EVER COME BACK. This place needs a major overhaul...... don’t waste your time
Small venues are great for the most part, but Skullys is really good. They make their own food, lots of booze choices, and the prices are very good too. The people here are very nice, so I dont know what a lot of other people are talking about. Maybe dont get hammered at a show in a small place and act like a fool, and you wont have problems. Id definitely come back, and I can vape indoors, unlike in NY where I live, and vapors have to go out with the smokers...
Could not ask for a better small venue to randomly see Unknown Mortal Orchestra tonight - kudos to you Skullys!Pros: Excellent sound and sightlines from anywhere except the front/entrance area. Fast service at the huge bar. Nice small balcony with small bar so you dont need to go back downstairs. Two outside patios at entrance and behind stage to get some air.Cons: Expensive drinks, but what do you expect at any venue?!Also very few people watching the show from their extended arm on phone screens blocking others views. Refreshing that people were actually paying attention to the live performance and not their electronic devices - refreshing after years in the iPhone infested SF.Overall A+ live music experience in Columbus, go here for a show!
Nice venue, sound was amazing. Only issue was lighting but all around a great time. Will go back again.
Horrible horrible place. We paid over $80 for a special event. I was hesitant to go because of the negative things I’ve heard about this place, I went anyway because I felt safe with my husband. First off, I was 20 at the time and my husband was 25 so of course he was drinking and I was not. We stood on the balcony area, waiting for the main band to come out. My husband got a drink and said it was too watered down. He said it’s just coke. I took a very small sip to see and it was really watered down. So he went back to the bar and got it right. That was the only sip I had. Keep in mind, no place has EVER reacted the way that they did over a sip. In ohio it’s legal for a spouse to buy a drink for the underage spouse and it’s legal for them to let their spouse have a sip as long as they’re around. We told them that when they made a big scene about it and I said I wasn’t drinking, they could even do a breath test and they didn’t care. We were humiliated and announced as underage drinking to every other staff person as we left the building. I told them the ohio laws and they said “we don’t care about the laws”. We then asked for our refund because we didn’t even get to see the band, and they REFUSED! Didn’t even give us back the entrance fees! Almost $100 wasted, because my husband let me take the smallest sip of his coke. If not for that whole experience, I would still rate this place low. Horrible staff, bad management and the security guards acted like it made their lives exciting to kick people out for stupid reasons. It’s sad because some of the bands are really good. Don’t go here, don’t waste your money.
Smaller venue. Good selection of beers. Been around a long time saw my first show here in 2008–has not changed much. Seems to be attracting more popular bands.
Bands take caution! Played a show here in August 2019 and both bands playing that night got their vans broken into - one parked directly behind the building, one on the street adjacent to the soccer field. Otherwise this place is a great place to play, just have someone guard your vehicle!!
If I could leave 0 stars, I would. Absolutely disgusting inside. This establishment has terrible management, is understaffed, security doesnt know what they are doing nor do they care. I saw the review about someone getting kicked out for stumbling, while I have seen people throwing up wherever and just returning to the bar or to dance (repulsive). The super loud to the point you cant hear anyone at all. Crowded, sticky floors, putrid smell, and dicey clientele. My friends and I will not be back, and I recommend to anyone: spend your money at a place that isnt just visited because of a convenient location that has liquor.
Killer venue for intimate to moderately sized shows. I’ve seen quite a few shows at Skullys and the levels are pretty much always good for listening (some places just seem to turn everything to 11). For a concert venue, this place seems pretty reasonable for beverage pricing, too.
I love live shows at Skullys. Ive had some unforgettable nights at this place. If youre not hitting up Skullys, do you even rage, bro?
Went to a show there, but wasn’t allowed entry without proof of vaccination. This was nowhere on their website. They said the entertainer was requiring it. Ok, they still didn’t post this on their site - I looked in advance multiple times and could have easily gotten a negative test done. November 2021. $137 x 2 down the drain.
Security cant tell the difference between being drunk and a disability. Literally the only thing the person I was with wanted was to find the restroom. She staggered a little due to her disability, and was told she was Too drunk to be in the venue. Had a talk about it with the security outside while she was getting her debit card and identification. Nothing was done to rectify the situation after speaking with them and explaining the issue.
The only time I go is for reggae night. Every time I go during the weekend I leave unsatisfied. They are charging to get in and people are not even dancing. The music is all over the place and the place is not very clean. Its like they completely forget about the bathroom. They could at least have a female go in and change the toilet tissue.
Just really upset that they stopped having hip hop night here. Will it ever be back? There isn’t any real places for people who like hiphop to dance, so it was the one and only reason for me to show up here every month.
Ok, So, we went here for a concert. Not being familiar with the area, we came early. You can call ahead for parking suggestions, and the person I spoke with was generally helpful. However, their website does NOT say that on days they have ANYTHING going on, their menu is quite abbreviated. And I mean really abbreviated. You cant even substitute your fries with a willing surcharge for onion rings, though onion rings are on the appetizer menu, available on event days. Ordered one each, beef and a turkey Reuben. Got both turkey. Fries were alright, nothing major. No slaw, nothing. Drinks. Beers on tap were mostly IPA. Whiskey sour was the smallest drink ever. Oh, btw, there is also NO happy hour pricing on a day with ANY event, so, dont come looking for any good deal. We had several rounds and our food, which was all I ate that day, and not much. The show was great, (Front 242), and we saw some of the band early, and bought a shirt beforehand. The bathrooms were clean and stocked, which was nice. I give it two stars for not being able to provide a dinner without notice. The guy on the phone the day ahead who suggested we eat there shouldve mentioned it. Also, very few dining tables. Not a fully-fledged diner. Concert hall, not sure where 800 people were supposed to fit. We ended up being fourth row back from the stage and got a good performance. If you need a place to sit, a stool, whatever, forget it. I saw a whole two in the concert area. I wish I could give it a 2.5, but its 2 or 3 here, and it wasnt a 3 experience. Sorry!
Great for live music. Great sound, nice stage. Nice sized bar. I have also come for brunch or lunch. It was a long time ago, so cant remember what I got. But I do remember it was good, because I got a reply from them correcting what sauce was on my sandwich.
Skullys is a lot of fun and a great intimate place to see a show. They offer decent food and have a nice upstairs with pool available. Theyve got a big patio out back which they cover and heat in the winter. Prices tend to be kinda crazy expensive so Id stick to cheap beer if you dont want buyers remorse when its time to sign your credit card receipt.
This venue would be great for small, local bands and djs. The fact that they even try to host larger artists is a disaster waiting to happen. I attended 12th planet this past weekend. It was sold out and there was over 500 people packed into that tiny dance floor. It was really dangerous to have all of those people in such a confined space and I and many other people couldnt enjoy the music we love because of the over crowding. I will never return to Skullys Music Diner.
If they learn how to turn their A/C on during sold out events Ill change this review to 5 stars. Love the atmosphere, love the workers and security, not being able to breathe during live sets due to too much heat is the only thing that separates this venue from being one of the best in Columbus.
If you are coming to Columbus and love going to intimate, local type shows, well this is your place. During the day its a really laid back diner, with amazing food. After the sun goes down this place turns into the phatest party downtown. Highly recommend checking this place out. Oh, and the sound system BUMPS, for all you audiophiles.
Went there for a concert. Gave money to get in and an hour and a half after the start time no band was playing. Everyone was standing around listening to the tracks playing over the speaker wondering what the heck was going on. My friends and I asked for our money back as we paid for a service that was not provided. They refused to give us our money back even though we had waited, bought a drink (so contributed to their business), and were leaving because we got so tired of standing around and wanted to enjoy our night. Very dissatisfied and disappointed with Skullys. I honestly feel like they stole from me.
MUSIC VENUES NEED TO SERVE THEIR PATRONS WATER, FULL STOP.No parking lot of note. However, after the bar didnt accept my temporary ID (which is annoying but understandable), I was refused water from the bar. Heres the thing... Water is a necessity, especially at a concert venue. You dont know whos gonna be on what at a show. You dont know who might need it.To not have water readily available is ridiculous, unsafe, and a dealbreaker. I see on Facebook there have been numerous complaints about the lack of water. Are the bartenders washing their hands? Are there any sinks at all? It is inexcusable to tell someone we arent serving water at a concert. I will be telling everyone I know about my experience.
I attended the 2000s Indie themed night at skullys on Saturday 12-8-18 and I had a very poor experience with the security. I was concerned for the safety of two women at this bar and there was a man that was aggressive and predatory and did not seem to have good intentions. I sought the help of the bartenders which referred me to the security that didnt seem to take what I was saying super seriously. I was expecting more out of the security as they should be trained to deal with situations like this however, it felt as though I had to tell them what to do. I left immediately as I was concerned for my safety also.
Nice people. Good drinks. Great music. The live band is the best part !
Its amazing how the outside is so deceiving the inside I really big they play all different music according to the nights you go ARE there... the bouncer was nice the the drinks were a bit late from the bartender in the inside of the club..... but the outside bartender was fast they have a nice patio out back with plasma TV s inside the club they had a upper level stage floor it was cool the crowd was pretty different Id say. You get all sorts of people in their young and mid age college groups
The food is just not good and the staff isnt very friendly. 75 percent of the beers on tap are IPAs which is rather disappointing. I know the hipster crowd is in to that but they need some variety. The music is usually pretty good though.
This place is horrible, unprofessional and overall a mess, save your time and go elsewhere.
It isnt so much the place but what the DJ brought to the (turn)table. Ducky is a small EDM artist but oh my God does she know how to go hard. Easily was the most insane fun concert Ive ever attended. Woke up the next day feeling like trash because I raved so hard. And I mean that in only the best way possible.
Great staff. Vibe is poppin
Went to a concert last night with my buddies who are all 25 years old. The staff did not let one of my friends in with a paper copy of his I.D. (Which the dmv gives you for replacing your licenses) they ended up kicking another friend out for arguing why he couldn’t get in.Long story short, staff is terrible, they have a bunch of no bodies working who enjoy abusing their “bouncer” status. HIGHLY DONT recommend.
Went for a show, great place
Horrible. I went to try to support my friends band and get video footage of them performing. This venue was for all ages. I brought 7 people. My younger cousin and niece were in attendance with me. I thought it would be a good experience for them since theyve never actually been to a real show before. Then, the door boy refused to let them enter the venue because they didnt have I.D.s..? SERIOUSLY SKULLYS? KIDS dont carry I.Ds. Thats common sense. Especially at an event thats supposed for all ages! 0 out of 5 stars.- REPLY: This was on November 15th. We arrived at 5:45pm to support Deadbeat which was scheduled to go on stage at 6:00pm sharp.
Great place to see a rock show
My favorite spot to go dance my cares away every Sunday love the live band with reggae music
Went here for Sad boyz on Wednesday and the heavier set bearded male bartender was fast but extremely rude. Any question asked he would fire back with a condescending response as if you are supposed to know the answer. It wasn’t even busy when we got there either so I’d hate to see his demeanor when they are slammed.
Id recommend finding somewhere else to spend your time and money. The staff at this point doesnt care, EVERYTHING is overpriced, and they charge performer $3 for water. NO BAR SHOULD DENY PATRONS WATER, LET ALONE PERFORMERS. It used to mean something to play at skullys or to go to Skullys...now its a husk of what it once was. They were rude, and have really started to show how POORLY managed the venue is.
First experience at a bar/dance club> Security definitely handled things well when someone caused problems and when drinks were spilled they wete cleaned up quickly. Felt comfortable and was a great place for my friends and I who are only 18.
Went to the ice nine kills show Sunday night. Its a decent place if youre of age to drink and wanna stop by for a few beers, but what turned me off was the fact that I saw a husband and wife in line with 3 boys who had already paid 35 dollars a ticket for the 5 of them, who had to pay an extra 5 bucks for each child because they werent old enough to drink. Thats just ridiculous. Same thing happened to 3 teenagers who bought their tickets and had to dig out their pockets for change to cover eachother to get in. THEY ALREADY PAID 35 DOLLARS A PERSON FOR THE SHOW THEY SHOULDNT HAVE TO PAY A 5 DOLLAR COVER CHARGE JUST BECAUSE THEY ARENT OLD ENOUGH TO DRINK FOR AN ALL AGES SHOW.
Today, I played keys with SDenise at Skullys. The gig? Great. Other musicians? Great. Service from the venue? 😭😡😡 We walked in the door and one of the men in charge was reluctant to give me enough time to set up my equipment. We arrived an hour early, but we didnt get to soundcheck as planned because of the venue being slow to let anyone in/ set up. The sound man forgot to mic my amp. After spending 15 on drinks and 20 on merchandise, and 24 on tickets, on top of moms tab, and playing for free, we were treated without any respect at all when we left. I went outside to load the car and a security officer named Chelsea locked us out of access to the car. Was very rude and hardass. I had over $1500 (and over 100 lb) worth of keyboard equipment that I needed to load up into the car. She didnt see I was a musician even though I was holding my synthesizer in my arm. Wth? Another security officer asked her to let me out, and we got out. When I took my next load out, Chelsea locked me out again. Meanwhile, a third officer with brown hair in a man bun rudely kicked my mother out of Skullys bar, as she was drinking her beer. Hustled her out, so Ihad to haphazardly pack up my stuff and leave. Other musicians complained too. Would not recommend. Feel gross giving Skullys advert with my live videos. Only positive was that one security officer, who was African American and wore a mohawk, helped me open the door and was professional in dealing with me.
Here for a show. While, a little small for more well known bands, great place!I was worried about other reviews but all the staff I encountered, 2 bartenders, guys collecting tickets, entrance secutirty & a couple waitresses.....all very nice! Overall good experience!
Ive only been here for events, and at those times I wouldnt dare to bother anyone for a menu. This place is what it is. First a venue for music and events during the nights and weekends then a place to grab food when nothing is going on. Again I cant speak for the food. The environment is dark with a decent patatio out back. To me there isnt really anything special about this place, but I will continue to go for concerts.
Great venue!! The concert was awesome!! We tried several appetizers, all good 😋 I was especially impressed with the selection of liquor and they even have my favorite bottle beer.
Ordered from this place on Postmates. Didnt get my food and they said they were temporarily unavailable after ordering, yet the transaction still went through. So basically they took my money and I didnt get my food10/10 if youre looking for a reason to piss away money for no reasonUpdated Review:The owners have since then replied to my previous post saying they are not affiliated with Postmates. I am not quite sure how I was able to order from here though, maybe someone had set up a dummy account in their name. Regardless of that, I do not hold anything against the owners if this was truly out of their control. I will be extra cautious when ordering off Postmates in the future however. I commend the professionalism of the owners and how they responded to my aggravated initial review. I apologize for the harsh initial review. I may not know how the service of this establishment is in person, but the owners seem to have a good head on their shoulders8/10 for the professionalism of the owners0/10 for whoever made that fake Skullys account and took my money
I love the owner Michelle but last time I was in Skullys was 2 days before Christmas and I got robbed out on the smoking patio by 2 thugs and there was nothing protecting me or any kind of security/cameras/etc. It was dead, maybe 10-15 people and the only reason I paid $15 that night was it was a benefit show for the food pantry. Kinda stings writing this but I think I should be honest. This is the most Ive thought about Skullys since then. Is it my responsibility to tell the owner? Should I have done something other than leave when they screamed at me to do so? I went out the back door before they took the money in my wallet too. Thanks Michelle. great establishment you run there. Real classy, Ill bet Jesus approves.
Welcome to Skullys Music-Diner: Columbus, Ohios Unique Food, Live Music and Entertainment Site.Voted #1 BEST DANCE CLUB!BEST PLACE TO ROCK N ROLL! BEST PLACE FOR HIP-HOP!AND BEST LADIES NIGHT 14 YEARS RUNNING!$5 SURCHARGE UNDER 21 (SOME SHOWS EXCLUDED)
Vibe was good, ran out of ice by 9 pm! Woman’s restroom didn’t have paper towels so we had to use some from the men’s restroom, when those ran out we asked the bartender if he had more and he said no...
Someone please inform the bouncers about Ohios new ID changes. They no longer print the ID in the BMV, they mail it to you and it takes weeks. Which means people who get their license renewed when they turn 21 wont be able to come in at all. This is despite the fact they hole punch the word OHIO in your old ID and give you a paper ID, explicitly telling you these two things together are your ID until your permanent one comes in the mail. no none of that matters bc the idiot bouncer will just be like uhhh this id is expired 🤓This isnt a mystery either lmao Ive had other people confirm that they were able to get into other bars with the same form of ID no questions asked. People have known about the new ID law changes for MONTHS. You people run a /BAR/ how the hell do you not know about this? Do the owners of this place live under a rock? It seems that one of the bouncers did know, when he smugly laughed as my friends went in without me, saying You arent the first or last person that this has happened to ??? So you guys must know there is an issue on some level at least? What are you doing???? And youre costing yourselves money too, considering a lot of people like to go out when they turn 21 so its just like I have no idea what the logic is here unless you just like ruining peoples nights?? really what the hell is wrong with you people lmfao
Went there last night. Ordered two beers. Turned around to hang my coat on my chair. Two to three seconds top. Bartender grabbed my drink n threw it away. I explained he just threw away my new beer. He told me beers dont belong on the bar. I explained to the second bar tender next to the first and was shrugged off. Instead of replacing a three dollar beer, they charged me for the beer. I closed tab n left no tip. Money went to a different bar. Save trouble n go to a better place! !
I asked a bartender at Skullys for a cup of water after a couple of drinks during an event and he informed me that I neglected to see the notice by the entrance that said they will not serve water. I could, however spend $3 on bottled water. Think about it, he said, if we gave out free water all night, the cost of all those plastic cups would really add up. Apparently the $5 door cover was not enough offset the cost of a cup of water. They also hold both your credit card and your ID when you open a bar tab... whats up with that?
Check the website for shows, arrive a couple hours late, and youll probably have a good time. Sometimes they have well known artists playing here and it can get cramped. My biggest compliment is their tab system. Afraid to try their food.
I went here for a concert once. I came to see Jars of Clay. It was a great experience. Its the perfect venue for bands that arent super big yet. Its a great place to bring a date.
Idk y’all there’s this one bartender who I’ve seen 3 times and helps me every time- and I genuinely just want to go back to see him again hahha so IF you’re reading this (you wore a button down with ducks on it at a hundred drums)- let me know 😂
This place is so sexist I had on the same shoes as a guy and was denied entry because I was born with a vagina! He told me that females can’t come in with sneakers which I find to be gender bias bc vans are made for both sexes! The bouncer legit said when I asked why is because of our sex parts! My friend who is a dike got in with the same shoes but she got it!! What’s next I have to have a certain amount of my legs out in order to get in to a club I’m paying to get into! Smh!’
Great music venue, although it does get pretty tight at popular artists. The food is AMAZING also! Make sure to stop by if youre visiting.
Sounds good but the bar area gets way too crowded makes it very hard to use the restroom
One of the worst venues in Columbus. Its a neat space, but too dark to find your friends. The floor is always sticky, and the bathrooms are usually broken. Worst of all, I know four girls who have been drugged there.
Terrible experience. Went in with three friends, took them 15 mins to say anything to us, they bring us menus and say they will be back with water and to take our orders. Then literally never came back. We ended up leaving after another 20 mins went by. Place was not busy, the employees simply didn’t seem to care. We are from out of town and was told this place was great, only to be let down and not even get to try it. What a joke of an establishment. Would not recommend !
The stage area is wonderful and perfect for letting loose with a few friends. The food is good and the service welcoming. Anamanaguchi was great live!
Lay back spot with great music and beverages
Clean club, easy parking. Saw A Band Called Death movie screening and live show. Not too crowded, friendly staff. Would come back again.
This place blows the food is not portioned right for the price, the ladies 80s is a joke free for women but $10 for guys come now what a joke, get a dj that can justify that price and maybe it would be worth it. Skullys use to be a good bar to go to now its just another waste of a bar just like many of them on high st.
Saw a concert here and really enjoyed its smaller/more intimate setting for the show. Employees that I interacted with (bar staff lol) were very friendly.
Just make sure you stay on top of your parking, cause the city will ticket quick.
The venue itself is not bad but the security/ushers there are bullies, trying to show authority for no reason. I wish skullys did something about that. Almost always a bad experience.
Sounded terrible. It looked cool, but lets face it, I was there for the music.
Cool bar. Nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Dropped in for a couple drinks. Close to restaurants and shopping. Off the main drag of High street. Would definitely stop in again
Been to countless shows here, and love this place. Its not large, but thats why I like it. Good acoustics, ample bathrooms, and 2 bars to order drinks from.
I love this place when they do Ladies 80s I think they should do 90s music. And have both on a weekend like Sat or a Friday night. If they have those or bring back ladies 80s id be back.
Fun venue but the dark ages had more light.
Came to skullys for an edm show. The artists and music was great but the production quality provided by skullys was trash. All visuals on a projector that you couldnt see clearly because of the lights. Sound system sounded terrible with all the bass
Great place! That need a kitchen tho
Saw Des Rocs here. One of the best concerts Ive been to, small and cool venue!
The diner name kind of oversells the food aspect, but they do have decent bar food and the stage area is pretty cool. Tons of room for the merch booth, and they have a second bar for the stage area.
Some of my best memories are of playing shows here. The food isnt bad either. This is a great place to see a show.
Nice, small venue for concerts.KFlay was awesome as usual!
Cool spot to hangout every Sunday night . It’s live Reggae music night.
Wouldnt accept passaport as id im pretty sure it is discrimination and Im very upset with what happened. The guy on the front door was extremely rude. Ill never come back there again!
They wont give you water for free, you have to buy a bottle. EVERY bar Ive been to will give you water if you ask or has a water station. Not here.
Saw Geoff Tate there last Tuesday. Nice place, pleasant staff, reasonable drink prices. Parking is a bit of a pain.
It can get really packed during shows and sometimes inst as enjoyable. Been here for a few concerts and its always provided a subpar experience compared to other locations.
Todays my first time here and I had so much fun. Parking seems to be the problem as my car got towed as well. But hey!! Im coming back here next sunday
This place is alright. Went to one of their Halloween parties. Descent atmosphere, food isnt very good, customer service is average.
Went here for the first time about a month ago for a show. Had a blast! Layout is perfect and theres plenty of room.
Worst piece of shyt buisness ever they pay their employees under the table there chef rarely wears gloves the flat top grill is covered with nearly a inch of black gunk is poorly cleaned and so is the grill so if u order a sandwich beware they pre cook your bacon and let it sit while he pics off of it with his bare hands the best part is the music if u visit piss on the floor kill a rodent for them
Fav place to go on Sunday. Hope you like reggae!
Love the chill atmosphere on Sunday reggae music was nice
A Few nights Ive been here in the past very live and energetic and awesome shows and the staff was real cool Ive had a awesome time 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿 Very live indeed
Dope venue with lots of awesome shows and events.
Cool place, nice bar and food and cool place to see a band. Alot of people begging for things like money and cigs around there though that pissed me off after a while.
Love the live band but its getting expensive to get in😳
Fun time at J Roddys Xmas to the Bone Show.
They took tickets before the show started making getting in quick and easy. Cute as hell and really nice. Ill be back.
Had a blast. Flex Crew was awesome as usual.
This was my first time at this club. And I have to say that I truly had a wonderful time. Great atmosphere! Great staff! Great time!! I will be back
Excellent venue! Awesome little place! One of my favorites in Columbus! This place is a new regular for me.
This venue hosts gr8 and very talented underground and up & coming artist friendly staff and performs i attend many concerts here
