This is a true Dayton original! Every square inch is steeped in history, from the rivers edge canoe livery to the ballroom upstairs. They have a full kitchen and a dandy fireplace in the den. Applications are way behind if you want to join, expect to wait months or years. Hopefully you will get an invite to some event from a member friend.
Historic Dayton Canoe Club. Wonderful access to the river. Parking is a challenge, but worth the short walk to tour the historic club.
It is pretty old so it has a lot of character. The Mens group from our church meets there once a month. One of our members belongs to the club. Nice facilities.
This is a historical building and still serves the purpose for which it was built. Theres a lot of history to absorb inside, the members are friendly and they enjoy their beer & harder stuff. They lovingly maintain & restore the building and will answer any question you may have. The oldest part of the facility is from the early 20th century. The canoe storage lockers are adjacent to the boat slips. They even have a canoe that belonged to the organizations founder. If you like beer, canoes and interesting characters, you belong already so might as well just go pay the nominal membership fee & get on the river. They host events throughout the year, traversing the scenic waters of the Great Miami & Stillwater Rivers & even traveling to rivers beyond the greater Dayton area. If you know the word zymurgy, youll be interested to know that the group has a dual identity & the club a dual purpose: D.R.A.F.T. (Dayton Regional Amateur Fermentation Technologists, in case you were curious) meets & functions in the building along side the canoe club. In fact, you may be hard pressed telling them apart. Im sure you dont have to participate in both groups but Im pretty sure both are included in the privileges of membership. This is a very laid back crew: participate as much or as little as you like. It aint Animal House but the partying is no less epic. Dont let the knowledge, craftsmanship & general competence of the members scare you, unless you have a repellent personality, that is! In that case: this review doesnt exist.... Nothing to see here....!!! 😁
A hidden gem in the gem city. Private club run by very neat people. Really enjoyed the birthday party we attended there. If you are a real canoe or kayak enthusiast and a real Daytonian these people are cool as can be.
This is a private club in a recognised historic building, founded circa 1912. The Canoe Club shares this space with the Dayton Regional Amateur Fermentation Technologists club (D.R.A.F.T.). The facilities have been painstakingly maintained by master craftsmen and has kitchen, large dining hall and a rumpus room with antique pool table & fire place. The basement offers a 2nd rumpus room with a Pepsi machine, stocked with cans of beer, as well as storage for canoes. This is a great club for any canoeing, fishing or home brewing enthusiast, as well as families. Im not sure what memberships cost. Its near to downtown Dayton, by the river. It offers no parking onsite; cars must be parked on nearby streets, situated perpendicular to Riverside dr.
Wonderful and very historic. Many of the greatest people from Daytons history frequented this club.
We hold a mens group here. It is a very nice place. Lots of old time charm.
