This was our first time. We stayed in a private room with king bed. Room was great. Very clean. Staff was friendly. The pool area is wonderful and we liked both the food and beverage service. We made lots of friends 😈. There are some restaurants and a deli just a block to two away and a cannabis store next door. One caution: This is a motel so the walls are not sound proof. You can sometimes hear muffled conversation and noise from next room. But not really bothersome. Also we had a small leak around our toilet and they came quickly to take care of it. Great response. Staff is friendly and helpful. Definitely going to book again!
Amazing place with an amazing staff. The pool area is fantastic. The rooms are decent size and the cleaning crew does a great job making them continue to look great. The entire staff is exceptional. Great location - close enough to explore both the Douglas and Saugatuck area, which never disappoint. The area has great restaurants and places to visit that are close by as well. My spouse and I have been coming for a couple of years now, and look forward to when we can return.
Ive been visiting The Dunes Resort for over 20 years. The rooms are spacious and clean, the pool area is excellent with plenty of seating and a full bar. Great food is available from The Blue Frog and served to you wherever you are relaxing in the pool area. The Deck, Main Bar, Vinyl Lounge, The Club and The Show Bar offer something for everyone. You cant go wrong staying at The Dunes, especially since the entire staff is friendly and makes you feel right at home. Id be hard pressed to say something negative about The Dunes. If you havent been there, give it a try, you wont be disappointed.
We stayed in one of the Dunes Rooms while passing through this area at the tail-end of a summer trip. We knew what we were getting into - mostly just coming for some after hours partying and maybe a quick nap before we got back on the road. The gentleman at the front desk even warned us when we called that The Dunes Rooms are not a good first experience for guests... We were grubby and out later than expected, just looking for something to do to kill the rest of the weekend. We have been to bath houses before, we knew what to expect and decided to visit anyways. The room and facilities we had access to were horrible - not because it was 5 x 5 or because it had no ventilation or air conditioning. Rather, it was super filthy inside and the entire lower floor of these rooms had the most foul smell weve ever encountered permeating them. One of the odors was mold/mildew that cannot ever really be cleaned out, but the real revolting smell was what can only be described as the remains of a pass around party bottom dying in his own mess in a corner somewhere? I am not sure, I have never smelled anything quite so wretched in my life. We joked that it stayed in our noses for weeks, maybe forever - we had to leave after about two hours there (despite only spending about 20 minutes in/near the room), as it was absolutely disgusting. The odor seemed to emanate from the shared bathroom near our room - the only one we had access to, so perhaps we just got bad luck with that... But it wasnt something temporary, it was like the bathroom itself was a sick bottom that had never been cleaned out.We didnt ask for a refund or anything (as they were clear before we even checked in one would NOT be given under any circumstances), and again we knew what we were in for with the shared room... But it was so much worse than we could have ever imagined. We may attend again in one of their more deluxe offerings, as most of the guests we encountered were pleasant and the campus has lots of appealing areas.
My first time at the dunes was a great experience, great music, drinks and great theme parties and staff. My room on the other hand could have been a little bit better, the room was very moist and seem as the sheets seems was damp from the moisture. But out of all will still come back.
A great place to get away from life as usual. The staff is attentive and friendly... there are good restaurants within walking distance. Rooms are adequate and clean... not really fancy, which is part of the charm. Have attended a weekend event twice during the shoulder season... The Dunes Resort is the reason we returned and will return again.
Great place for the right people.Lovely pool.A bit misled on the room, dorm room with no window, no AC or temp control, no ventilation, shared bathrooms (a bit of a line to get to). I have a mold allergy so couldnt breath in the room. That info not much featured on the website or would have choosen a different place. That said, staff was great, lots of friendly people staying there for fun times.Wish the website had been more clear. Left early and the front office staff were very understanding.Id avoid, but if youre there for the party, or you choose the correct room (not the basement) then go for it.
I visited the dunes in early summer and I visited with no expectations and an open mind. I was extremely pleased, delighted and happy to find out that the dunes is a well run organized hotel resort with an absolutely friendly staff and great rooms with a wonderful pool. The clientele at the dunes is very friendly. I would recommend this to any gay queer or homosexual male that is interested in visiting the dunes.I hope to return soon again myself.
We love coming here ! It’s loads of fun with great staff and an amazing pool area . Everyone is very friendly. The rooms are very clean and housekeeping comes everyday to make beds promptly and clean up .Kudos!
Great gay resort hotel near downtown Saugatuck. Huge dance club area, multiple bar areas, and a drag performance space. Nice pool area with full service food/drink bar. Must bring your own towels for the pool. No outside alcohol allowed in the pool area. Overall, I’d definitely recommend this to gay guys looking for a queer weekend getaway in Michigan!
Oh my. I went with my husband for my birthday. Ive driven around the area before and always wanted to go. My friends all told me we would enjoy it!We didnt.Mostly.The front desk guys were very friendly and told us all the info we needed. I was a bit surprised when he detailed how to get to our room but more on that later. The pool area was great, the bartender very friendly and made a great margarita. I really liked this part. But the room. Now, this is a resort, but that room did not make me think it was. We stayed in a Captains Room, which was a few of the rooms that were left when we made our reservations. The photos looked fine. But the room was really really small. No A/C. A tiny fan that really looked like it belonged in a doll house. The room felt damp, as did the bedding. When my husband and I returned from our terrible dinner, we were talking about leaving that night, but I said no, lets go back to the room and see how we feel. We sat in the room for about 15 minutes and said, no we have to go.We got home around midnight and knew we made the right choice.Another thing that really helped us in choosing to leave was the bathroom. There was none in the room itself. There was a communal shower with one toilet and two urinals. This was supposed to be used by the entire floor, it seems. Now, Im not really that uppity or picky, but I really need a bathroom in my room.I think my husband and I were really looking for a resort type stay but the dunes is really for other reasons.I think we will revisit one day but we will have to get a room that is not located in the basement and hopefully will have a window to the pool/outside. We may have to make reservations a year out for this, I think.
Ive been coming to the bar here for many, many years, and I have always enjoyed the atmosphere, shows, and friendly staff.Im not sure what happened, but its suddenly changed. 4th of July weekend, and you charge $20 cover just to walk in the door?? No show, no entertainment (except maybe a DJ)... 2 nights x 250+ guys x $20 = $10,000 for the heck of it? You should be embarrassed at your greed. Then I stand there directly in front of the bartender, waiting for a drink while he waits on everyone else but me. Even taking people standing off to the side and people who walked up after me.Its time to go elsewhere.
Came here just for a night with friends. Great dance floors. A pool that will bring you back to life. Amazing drag show. Goddess bless this place.
I went in June and this was my first time staying at The Dunes Resort and I couldnt have been happier! 😊😁 I loved the location, the room, and the overall experience, cant wait to come back. 🥰
The staff was awesome. Staff member Bruce at the pool gave great tips and city information to us. It was our first time to this area.Inter-Urban transport for $1 a piece sure made getting from the resort to downtown easy. Parking would of been a challenge in town.At the resort, the outside club area was super fun. The memorial day show with Sutton Lee Seymore was fun both nights. For a one person show, she went an hour and half with no breaks. She was fantastic. Her facial reactions alone were great. Now add to that the fact she can sing, dance, do impersonations, and engage the crowd all at the same time. The Office Staff and housekeeping were very attentive. They also were a great source of information for the area.It would be nice during the events if there was a back in/out entrance to the resort area rooms. If your out on the patio and its busy, you have to make your way to the front entrance thtough the crowd to then walk around the building to where you were inside the fence to get to your room. No big deal, unless its raining, lol.
We found the Dunes Resort driving by. We pulled in and they had a room available and ready for us to check in. The king suite was huge. We were very comfortable. The room was clean. The bar was fun, the people were great. It was 10 out 0f 10! We will definitely stay here again. Ready to see the atmosphere when the pool is open. We will be back soon. Thank you
Duplex Suite renovations were an unexpected surprise. new hot tub, central air, strong wifi, fully equipped kitchen.not sure why deadbolt lock was removed.
Lovely gay resort. Really nice amenities, wonderful pool, very nice staff. Highly recommend!
Me and my partner stayed there 5 days had a very good time ...the grounds are very beautiful and the staff super friendly and helpful 👍👍👍
My friend and I decided to stay on a whim and really enjoyed our stay. All of the staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the area for things to do. The resort is very well kept.I was very happy to find out about Thursday night karaoke where the host was awesome. I had a blast. Ill definitely be back and plan out my trip better, they book up fast.
Spent 2 night here midweek and had a very nice time. It was not crowded and easy to play pool and get a drink. We had a 2nd floor king bed room which was nicely decorated and large. The bed was super comfortable! The bar, dance floor, game room and reception area are large and the staff is very friendly. We hit the big pool area and there is also a bar right next to the pool.Have not been here in many years and Ill have to say that it has only gotten much better. Looking forward to visiting again on a weekend when things are a little more lively.
Never stayed at the rooms. Drinks are cheap, pool is nice, and it’s a fun summer get away. A little dead in the evenings though but still fun. Pool parties are the highlight
Although I didnt actually stay at this resort I did visit. It is a very nice local venue 🌈.They have two beautiful indoor bars, actually three if you include the Cabaret, And then another bar out on the patio dance floor. The patio area is ginormous 😱 plenty of room for groups of people to gather in their own little areas. One area even had a fire pit🔥Apparently they have a multitude of room levels.🛏️ Ranging from a dormitory style building to a classic old hotel style to two-story bungalow type units. I also heard that occasionally they have availability to the condos across the street!🛋️The swimming pool area is the best Ive ever seen 👀 at this type of resort🤩 Its just immense. And of course they have a stage and a bar and a large number of cabanas for rent. All in all a great weekend getaway. I can imagine it is sold out on holiday weekends 🥳
My third visit. Friendly staff, friendly guests, fun pool, good vibe. It’s not a five-star resort and doesn’t pretend to be, but it has five-star good energy. You can tell everyone who works there enjoys the place and wants you to have fun. I’m not really a party person and I still have a great time!
Stayed on a very quiet Monday night (September 18). Staff was exceptionally helpful and accommodating, in particular Taylor at the front desk. The grounds are well kept and rooms clean and cozy. Looking forward to returning with friends on a busy weekend.
It was my first time at The Dunes over the weekend and I can’t say enough good things. I had first date jitters, but they were quickly erased. Every staff member we encountered was so friendly and welcoming. The Sunday pool party was a blast. We didn’t stay at the resort on this visit, but will definitely be planning another trip to stay there before the summer is over!
Very beautiful location and common areas, bars, pools, etc were very cool! We stayed in the cottage and it was nice, just some minor things that wouldve made it better is if the living room had a coffee table, there were some extra blankets, and if it was easier to get extra towels. Otherwise it was a nice stay
Rooms do not have windows, there is no ventilation, not suitable to stay overnight.
Very clean. The King room was very nice and clean for the age of the resort (loved the shower dispenser). We just happened to stay while a drag show was scheduled for entertainment and it was a blast. Met one of the owners and he was a delightful, charming and heartfelt man. We will stay again.
We stayed in a lower cottage with our dog. The yard was right outside which was perfect for our needs. The rooms and grounds were well-kept. A surprise to me was daily housekeeping! The staff were wonderful. Would definitely stay again!
The Dunes was a super friendly place in a great location with a wicked short drive to downtown Saugatuck and the lake itself. The retro-motel style rooms are sleek and comfortable. The pool, bar, cabaret, and dance spaces were all great! Will definitely be back agin.
I had no idea a place like this existed in West Michigan. This just made moving here that much better. Ill be back!
What a great destination to reset and relax. We laughed, relaxed and enjoyed our stay. The staff are all amazing. Everyone was kind and upbeat. We met people from all over the world. We cant wait to go back!
This was our first visit and we were very impressed by the friendliness of the staff and guests. Patrick at the reception desk was helpful and professional. Our King room was very clean, comfortable and modern. We normally dont stay at Gay Resorts but after having vacationed in Douglas/Saugatuck for well over a decade we finally gave it a try and are glad we did. Plenty of fun events and a nice pool and bars. We gave them the highest compliment by extending our stay. Well done Dunes!
Did a last minute overnight stay from Chicago and was really impressed with The Dunes. SUPER clean rooms, great facilities and very friendly staff. Will certainly come back in the summer for a longer stay!
Just an overall fantastic experience. Great bartenders, and a great drag show. Great rooms and hospitality.
I just wanted to say thanks to the Dunes for helping me once I arrived at the property and realized that I had booked the wrong kind of accommodations. I was not going to be able to stay in the room that I had inadvertently booked (one of the Dunes rooms with communal amenities), and on such short notice there was nothing else available for me, so I had to book a room at another hotel in town. The staff was incredibly kind and understanding and refunded my previous payment. We will be back - with a correct booking. The property is lovely - and looked like a lot of fun with a large pool, dance club and bar. While it didnt work out this time, we are looking forward to trying again.
Well, I gave you a good review and then I got a phone call from you saying. Your reservation was canceled. Because you irritate the customers I think I irritate the staff but thats alright I normally spend about $600 or 700 when Im at the dunes but send no, Im ex communicated. I dont have to spend 600 or $700 at the dunes anymore. Ive been coming there since 1980. And there nevers been a problem until this last year I guess. Ive never heard of anything before but new rules written
Immediately upon arriving in the room I noticed the toilet was detached from the floor so I notified the front desk. I notified them two more times and nothing ever happened to fix the problem. We also had two cockroaches in the room and were hesitant to leave our luggage the because of it. We only stayed because there were no other options in the area.
The nice thing about the Dunes, unlike other gay resorts, is that you will fell welcomed no matter what level of participation you enjoy in the activities. Theres both a party and relaxation to be had. The rooms vary from luxury cabins with hot tubs to fully equipped hotel rooms to bare bones dorm style rooms (offered in season on the weekends). The staff is friendly and efficient and the housekeeping staff is awesome. I didnt meet the owners but the staff speaks well of them, which tells volumes. Ill be back!
The area was quiet and my wife and I loved that. Unfortunately there were a couple of things that bothered us. Firstly, our king suite didn’t have a microwave .. we asked the cleaning crew but they didn’t have answers. After 3 days, we finally called the service desk, they said that king suites don’t have them but “we’ll have one delivered to you”. It clearly states that one of the amenities is a microwave. Secondly, there was a issue with the water, a worker knocked and said we wouldn’t have water but didn’t give an approximate time when we would. We didn’t have hot water for 2 days. Thirdly, the bed was horrible, the springs in the bed are so prominent. I was in pain every single night. I just feel like the stay wasn’t worth what we spent. It was quiet, but the overall stay wasn’t worth it.
It was fine. Very expensive. We paid $254 for just one night in the standard 2-bed motel room only. This was their cheapest option unfortunately, but it was NYE so thats probably why they jacked the prices way up. There was no coffee filter in our room, so no way to make morning coffee, which I desperately needed after a night of partying. Im also deducting a star for the haphazard way their parking lot is laid out, its almost like a maze, without clear signage. But overall we did have a pretty good time, and would definitely return to The Dunes again, especially if DJ DigiMark is throwing down tunes at the club - it was a great night!
We had a fantastic trip at the dunes. The service was on point - and this is coming from a crew that has worked in service for a long time. Housekeeping was friendly and attentive, bar service and staff were chipper and clean. Overall very impressed by management and all that work together to make this place run as smoothly as it does. Huge thanks from hubby and I :-)
Fantastic resort and facility! The owners take pride in serving the 🌈 community! Thank you for offering a safe place to make amazing memories!
I loved everything about this stay, especially the cleanliness of anywhere & everywhere within the resort. The resort events are an added bonus plus the location is ideal as it gets being tucked in Douglas not far from Saugatuck.
I stayed at the dunes over the summer of 2021 and the service was great! I originally booked a room but when I showed up to check in the room I booked was not cleaned and ready. The manager still took care of me and gave me the keys to one of the apartments they had across the street. I had a wrist band and was allowed to use the pool and get in the clubs no problem. The apartments also had a pool so I didn’t have to walk or drive up to the dunes to take a swim. I was not charged an upgrade for the apartment over the room. The manager also gave me a total of 12 drinking tickets I could use at the bar for my troubles. The environment was fun. I would stay here again.
So this is not just a hotel and this review is NOT for the actual lodgings. This is basically a gay club/event venue with three bars, indoor and outdoor space, two dance floors, ample seating, caberet/stage room, and a billiards lounge. I went on a Saturday night and it was a $10 cover charge, not bad at all for a club this size. The place was packed full of cute guys by 11PM. There wasnt a live DJ while I was there which was a bit odd but maybe it was still early. There were guys in leather and other gear so feel free to dress the part. The drinks were cheap though same as most clubs a bit watery, but is what it is. I paid $8 for a vodka cran, fair price compared to what Im used to. Parking can get really tricky as it heats up.
The staff was lovely - very kind. The rooms (I stayed in a standard king room) left a bit to be desired. The bed was very squeaky / worn - tv was tiny, and i didn’t feel safe, given there was no bolt lock or any other way to secure the door. I had to pretty much slam the door to get it to stay closed. Also - I would suggest investing in some glass shower enclosures. The curtain didn’t adequately contain the water from getting all over the floor. Probably won’t stay here again. Sorry but just being honest. Thx 🙏🏻 Ps - the zero flexibility with check out time is also annoying.
Great set up - very friendly bar staff! Perfect place to visit for themed parties/weekends. Wonderful outdoor patios and decks. Great for outdoor style drinking and smoking. However, I would not recommend the “bathhouse style” rooms in the basement. These rooms should rent for the hour, not for a night. The website doesn’t share all of the details that you should know. Also- beware there is no early check out. No refunds, etc. I would highly recommend touring the rooms before renting them or asking someone that has stayed in the room you’re about to reserve. Better yet- have the staff FaceTime you from the room you are about to reserve.
Everyone friendly and accommodating. The only negative things I could recommend that might need to be looked at are: Room pricing is a little high, cant make reservations or get a room less than a day ahead, call and get no answer and the overflow parking lot in the back should ALWAYS be open. Other than those 3 things, this place is great and I recommend it highly!
Just ok. I wanted to rate our visit higher, plenty of pros, but also a few cons. I simply wouldnt call this place a resort. Theres a connotation that goes along with the word resort, and we didnt experience that level of service or vacation experience. The pool area and bar, cabaret facilities are great. We saw the cabaret show both nights, Big Red was amazing. And the cabaret show was free, so hard to complain. But the second night there was a bridal shower and many partiers in the back of the room. It was so loud, we struggled to hear. Big Red called them out twice to quiet down. I would think an employee, bouncer, someone on staff would be controlling that. Our room. It was a king bed suite overlooking the pool. The room decor is sparse and dated. I think in both rooms and bathroom theres 1 piece of art on the walls. A wicker patio set was the table in our living room. No curtains, just blinds. Both tvs were very small. The towels (2 of them) were very coarse, as I saw another reviewer post. After both towels were used and wet, I tried to get more but theres no phone to call to speak with anyone and my walk to the front desk was met with a closed office. We used our beach towels to dry off until the next day when I found the cleaning woman (who was very nice). Our shower rod fell once, I put it back up. It just felt like a motel stay. Very basic. No frills. And no crowds. Our stay was in the middle of summer, Thurs through Sunday. Both sunny, hot days at the pool saw no more than 20 to 30 people at the pool with maybe 3 people swimming at any time. Im sure they have special events and holidays that draw people, but the bar was sparse, very few people, yet theres a beautiful indoor and outdoor club/bar space. Dont come hoping to be surrounded by a lot of people. The pictures make you think of a packed resort with themes, lots of guys, events, and fun. A destination. We enjoyed touring the towns...but our stay was just ok. It should have been a sign when we checked in with the nice young man at the counter. We paid, got keys....and that was it. I had to ask if there was anything we needed to know, where to go, how things worked with the club and bar. Could you tell is anything to help plan our stay?Just ok.
What an awesome first time visiting this property. Had a lot of fun. DJ John E is AWESOME!!! Keep him there and we will be booking more stays on his schedule.
Clean rooms with daily housekeeping. Havent seen that since COVID.
The staff is always happy and eager to make your stay memorable. The bartenders are amazing and fun and the housekeeping is impeccable! We always stay in the king suites when we make the trip down and they are amazing with an awesome view of the pool
Had a blast! We’ll definitely be back.
Havent stayed at the resort, but the bar is fun! Always something to do! Great LGBTQIA+ getaway in a beautiful lakeside tourist town.
Dunes Resort takes hospitality to a different level! 😉. The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff were all simply amazing. They went above and beyond to help make my stay enjoyable; and assisted with extending my stay on a fully booked weekend!. I highly recommend Dunes Resort. The pool is great; bring a float. Bar and night club make it perfect. The guests are all inviting and welcoming which made it all the better!Chris Hunt
I wanted to give a raving fan 5-review, but as all seasoned travelers know-it’s the little things that separates average resorts from amazing resorts. Why the “ok” score? Front desk service. Every simple inquiry for assistance , for example: i can’t access wi-fi.(Note: we were both taking a working vacation and needed internet access at all times- but their system was constantly crashing). Our request was responded too in the same way, “I’ll get with my manager-give me 20 minutes.” Of course, it was more than an hour and we had to call several more times. Half the time it was never fixed.Next, if you’re going to stay for more than a weekend-bring bathroom towels. The bathroom linens were so course and bleached-they literally scratched our skin. The only raving fan compliments go to the pool bartenders and ladies in housekeeping: friendly, professional, happy and attentive. Great job team! Too bad the front office team didn’t have your dedication to customer service.
While the place looks great in the main bar area our room was very dated. Lipstick on a pig kind of experience. We turned on the heat and a horrible odor came out and set the alarm off. Drinks are over priced as well.
Great entertainment space. Fun and energetic. Grounds nice. We stayed in a cottage. That was so dimly lit it was horrible to be able to see at night. Also a bit dreary and felt dirty. The place just needs a major refresh. Front desk staff were not helpful and not welcoming.
I spent a short weekend here with a friend on a whim. The rooms are tasteful, if a bit bare. The beds are super comfortable with plenty of pillows. The bathroom had pretty decent water pressure and included a liquid soap dispenser in the shower, which while odd, was convenient. The wifi is not free here, which is unfortunate due to the lack of T-Mobile data coverage in the area. The crowd here consists of mainly older white affluent men, some coupled, some not. The pool area is lovely, with a heated pool with plenty of lounge chairs and even a bar! The club is large with plenty of different spaces for various activities. The upper section has a respectable pool table, bar, and some comfy chairs and couches. Down the stairs is the main bar and continuing on is the large confined dance area. The staff is mostly very friendly and welcoming, as are the patrons. In the warmer weather the enormous patio out back is open with its own bar and plenty of open space for dancing and or mingling. Finally, there is a hidden gem of a cabaret bar tucked away in the side of the building. The performer was witty and had real talent. We happened to be visiting during underwear weekend, which made things interesting to say the least.
Love this place! Staff is awesome and the tea party atmosphere is a blast. Love hanging by their pool and having cocktails. The shows in the Cabaret are excellent as well with some seriously talented acts coming through. Saw Coco Peru there years ago and IT BURNED!!!
Stayed 9-13-19 to 9-15-19. Arrived late after driving most of night.. Room C7 ( basement unit) was so damp and smelly (wet carpet ) We should have left it was so bad ( but was exhausted) , we kept the door open as much as we could for fresh air, and limited time in room as little to as possible. Upon further inspection noticed the area under the wall unit/ furnace/air conditioner was saturated with water it was squashy under your feet. ( am sure its still like that, as we just left a couple of hours ago) When walking in socks, your feet would get very wet even in the bedroom area. Nothing would dry inside the room, towels or swimming trunks, bed linens were very damp as well. The room is very updated and was extremely clean, very nice linens, decor was very nice as well. I was waiting for staff to ask about the stay when we checked out 9/15, however he was very pleasant but only asked if I needed a receipt. Grounds and pool area are very nice(extremely) as well. Was my first time there. over all I was very impressed however the room was terrible. Go early and check out the room first, I paid $200.00 per night and found just what I described.
Always a fun time at the gay friendly resort. We have visited multiple times as hotel guests, visited for a night of dancing, attended the cabaret shows, or an afternoon by the pool. Great music!! Most of the staff are friendly. Some bartenders could be more friendly.
Fun atmosphere and safe for a relaxing time. Was able to relieve alot of stress here and have a really good time.
They didnt tell us they had a pet deposit of $25 PER DAY. They just added it to our account...without asking us if wed still want to stay---I wouldnt have!!It was a Thursday evening...totally dead...3 people in the large bar....and the receptionist did not tell me of the cheaper rooms---he just gave me the more expensive ones. If you read the other reviews, you can see that their drinks are veryexpensive too. When I went to check-out in the morning....no one was there. Locked up....so I couldnt get my bill. I called when I got home to voice my displeasure....and the officemanager /Richard/...could care less. He said he was tired of arguing with me.Folks, this isnt the only dog & pony show in town. There are other cheaper nice hotels right down the road. This was the worst overnight lodging experience---by far--of our 8 day jaunt. In fact, I travel for my job, and its the worst in my 28 years of traveling all over the country.
I like coming here during the summer when the pool is packed and the rooms are sold out. It’s always a fun time. The bathrooms need to be degreased between guest stays. And be sure to clean the filter in your A/C unit when you check in. It’s always filthy and stinky.
I cant during a pretty busy weekend with a big event. I stayed in their cheapest rooms which was pretty much exactly how they described, so although they werent the nicest, it was what I expected. The only issue I had was that there was no electrical outlets in the room I was in. Now i did get to see other rooms and they were great! The whole bar area was fantastic and it is truly a great place to visit! Definitely coming back!
Fun resort, but a bit overpriced for what you get. Bare bones room and the building itself needs some work. Drinks are pretty high priced as well. Pool is great and bartenders are friendly. Nice for a weekend get away.
The Dunes is a great place to go for entertainment and drinks. The performers are all very good and the staff is very friendly! During the summer, the pool is open and so nice to use on a hot day. In the winter, they have karaoke and a fun bingo night as well. Just remember, no kids... Its not a family place.
Went for BINGO. Had so much fun. They had drink specials during the even. What I loved was all half of the profits from every game when to the charity of the night. We played about 3 games an hour and you could play for $1 and some were $5
This was my second year visiting yall for my self-inflicted writers retreat. Besides finishing my second play, I also got in some major hiking as well as drinking and karaoke (my LADY IS A TRAMP still seems to be a crowd pleaser). Until next August, I wish you and your staff all the best, and thanks for making me feel like a regular.
The best bartenders and very kind staff are always so welcoming and friendly. Looking for a night out in the town, never hesitate to drop in with your friends. The most LGBT friendly place of Michigan is always looking to show you a good time with friends! Karaoke, Cabaret, Tea Dance, Bingo, Drag Race, DJ Doug, and many many more fun events await you s The Dunes Resort in Douglas. And may I mention, thee best drinks in town, made by the handsomest of men around! Happy New Year!
This was my second visit to the Dunes Resort, and it was just as pleasant as the first. The staff ... whether in the office, in the bar, at the pool or in housekeeping are professional without being stuffy. Our first stay was in one of the cottages (loved it), but for this stay we selected a pool side king suite. It was perfect with a nice sitting room, comfy king bed in the bedroom and large, clean ensuite bathroom. We enjoyed socializing with other guests at the pool during the day while sipping frozen margaritas, daiquiris and other cocktails. In the evenings we ventured into Douglas for dinner (loved Everyday People) and breakfast each morning in Saugatuck (recommend Ida Red in town and Penny Royal north of town).Well return!
So much fun at the night club. The Dunes is clean, the bartenders are great and make delicious drinks. Huge indoor dancefloor. Even bigger outdoor dance floor. Super music, all around good time. Highly recommended.
I traveled to West Michigan at last minute to attend a family members memorial. Not really knowing where to stay I did a little search on Trip Advisor and came across The Dunes. I extended my stay a bit so I could explore and enjoy the area. The Saugatuck/Douglas area was a really nice spot, with great restaurants, awesome beach and this great spot, The Dunes!I didnt know until the day before my arrival that it was Mr. Michigan Leather weekend at The Dunes (was surprised I could get a room), so that made the weekend even more fun! I met some great, friendly people who included solo me in their groups and had an awesome time. Many hours at the pool, great bars (inside and out) that served pretty much everything available, music was really good and I enjoyed the DJ at the tea dance. Every team member was really nice and friendly - from the housekeepers to the bartenders.I was impressed how meticulously kept the property was, my room was spotless and comfortable. Will definitely be back for a bit more time, with better planning to enjoy the area!
Wow!Great hideaway place on Lake Michigan for gay guys.Primarily a gay resortGood music, great pool, fun events. Will be returning
Lively bunch of on the right Nights. All kinds here, no really all kinds.Quite a spread out place, walk around and check all the places. Main dance floor was empty two nights I was here. Caberet bar was pretty lively with Kereoke...some decent voices and some tolerable...but dont knock those with guts.Bring cash if your gonna drink, just saying. Im not a big drinker so one is enuf for me.Bartenders are good for viewing while waiting for drink.Reviews say pool is open to public, just keep clothes on!!Different activities throughout the season.Varying rooms available at different prices, plan ahead, Holiday times are surely popular.Gift shop is loaded with items worth checking out and purchasing for use at your stay, to take home or gift to someone.Gotta come multiple times to experience all the enjoyment you can have, Im sure.
Bartender was very friendly and was very knowledgeable on his drinks. Bathrooms were clean. It was a Wednesday evening so there was only about 20 people in the bar....music was good but no one was dancing.
Nice, comfortable room. Clean bathroom. Good air con. Towels and linens are the weak point in the room, very thin l, but at least they are very quite and clean. Exterior walkways can look dirty depending on the guests in nearby rooms. Found shoes and beer cans scattered outside one room this morning right in front of our car.
The atmosphere is amazing! Never had a bad night here in all the years Ive been coming. Bartenders are always ready with a pour and a smile.
The staff here are so friendly and very accommodating! The bar is fun, the rooms are very clean. This is my 3rd time staying at the Dunes and Ill definitely be back! Highly recommendable!
I typically have a decent time when I come here. Some of the entertainers they have have questionable talent, but there are other things to do. The rooms are quite clean but are grossly overpriced, even in the dead of winter. As are the drinks in the bar.The bartenders are mostly twinks, some are friendly, some are not, and some should of retired 20 years ago.We use to come here every year, but coming every other year or every 3rd year seems adequate these days. Saugatuck as a whole is getting quite old. The merchandise in the shops never changes, the downtown seems stagnant. I think the days of us going to Saugatuck annually is getting long in the tooth.
Such a nice place. Looking forward to them firing up the huge brick fireplace on the pool deck. Hopefully one of the bartenders can bring me out some hot cocoa. Maybe with an orange slice as a garnish. Oh rite, and a splash of Cointreau. ;)
Came here for a mini vacation and had a great experience. The service was excellent, pool and bars were fun, and the room was comfortable for a short trip. An excellent stay at The Dunes and will be back soon!
Friendly staff, good food (glad the kitchen has reopened after the pandemic). Great pool area, well kept rooms and property. One of my favorite places to stay.
The Dunes has definitely stepped up their game like no other gay establisment in the USA. I have gone to different gay night clubs and the Dunes is atill my absolute favorite place to go! It is a 4 hour drive for me, which I do about 2-4 times a year in the summer, but it is so worth it! I love the Dunes Divas as it is the best drag show ever! I also lovwd the Ruby Girls last year and am excited to see them again this year. This place is magic is all I can say!
Their huge dance floor, pools, and bars provide hours of entertainment. Super friendly staff. Only thing that sucks is the expensive covers to big events like tea dances that can be upwards of $25
We just got back from a week at The Dunes. We had a good time and would definitely go back. We are both in our early 50s and only go to gay friendly resorts. The pool was nice, the staff super friendly. There were a few things that were an issue.... the coffe pots in the room. Those little two cup coffe pots are fine of i am on a business trip over night but way too small for a weeks visit. They made a made a mess everywhere . Why dont they have any coffee or breakfast in the morning. I dont think they need to do a seven course meal but.... the pool was nice but why cant we start a tab? Ok the weekends were crowded but it was a hassle. Speaking of the pool... really no smoking . I get it the nonsmokers love to whine. To smoke we had to leave to pool area and you cant take your drink. It really was a hassle to the point that we left in the afternoons and went back to our patio. So we had some minor issues. It was very nice there. The grounds were beautiful and the staff was great. Next time well bring our own coffee pot and hopefully be non smokers . Thanks for a nice visit. Tom and Dave
We made reservations a week ago for New Years weekend Saturday and Sunday (this weekend) . We made reservations over the phone and not online. We had to put half down on the stay. We were never told that theres a minimum 14 days to cancel or anything else about cancelling when making the reservations. Typically cancellations are 24 to 48 hours not weeks and months according to their fine print in their confirmation email. So to make the long story short husband and I both are coming down with colds and dont want to go and get everyone else sick. And were basically told were S.O.L. on the deposit. Well never go back.
The pool was great and it was sunny. It’s great to be out with friends and enjoy the weather. The night bar and dance floor was fun. They have really nice art galleries nearby.
The bar is a a fun place to be, but that is it. We paid for the Wiley Suit with the hot tub. However, this is far from a suit; more like the ghetto. 300 plus a night for a so called suit that smells of dampness and mold, we had to go buy candles and air freshener the smell was so bad. The bathroom is horrible, the shower head sprays all over the floor and cabinet because of the improper design. The sink base is all warped because of this. The carpet looks like it aint been cleaned in years, the walls need a good painting. There was outlets that had no covers on them and when they say fully stocked kitchen, do not listen. The few pans and things they had were still dirty from who knows how many guests ago. Just pulling up to the place is bad. They have overgrown weeds and bushes all over the front. Hell they cant even clean the room at normal times, one day it is at 11 am the next time it is after 5 PM. Never know when you are gonna be surprised and have to leave your room to be cleaned. The hot tub would of been nice if u could even use it. The bugs were so bad you could not even be out for a minute. For the money you pay they should give u what you pay for if I wanted to stay in the ghetto I would of stayed in Detroit. Save your money you can get a much better place for 300 a night and just can it to the bar and pool. This could be a great place to stay if they took my 1200 dollars and put some money into this place. Ie a new paint job, carpet cleaning, dehumidifier, electrical covers, new shower head, screen around the hot tub, clean dishes, a little bit of yard work just to name a few simple things.
Love this place! Clean, affordable accommodations and the staff (especially the owners) are super friendly! And its right by the towns of Saugatuck and Douglas which are in my opinion the most gay friendly in the state, and are really fun to check out for shopping and Oval Beach! For an unforgettable gay friendly vacation at an unexpected location, this is the place to go!
We always have such a great time at The Dunes! My husband finds it relaxing. I find it exciting! We always have a great time, especially by the pool, and especially when DJ Doug is playing (song after song I have to go up and ask him about)! Looking forward to Labor Day Weekend!
Really great place. Perfect distance from Cleveland. We have stayed in both the front and back buildings. Is our secret home away from home.
Fun space to get away and enjoy small town gay life. Great little bar and good music. Great pool. Beds are decent although not the most comfortable in the world.
Nice place. Old but getting updated. friendly staff.I liked it. Bars wont do tabs but do take credit cards.ow they have food service to the pool or your room.
Very nice well maintained facility. Lovely landscaping and the staff is helpful. Lots of good restaurants nearby. We have an enjoyable stay.
What a great spot! Were here in beginning of April, so there isnt really anyone or anything going on- but most shops and restaurants are open. We want to come back to the Dunes Resort in the summer because it has all the ingredients for an awesome time! And the staff are so helpful and sweet!
I booked a weekend trip for my wife and I to celebrate our first anniversary. Today, we got back a positive covid test. When we called to try and reschedule, we were told a flatout no and that we would be charged a cancelation fee.Come on. If it were any other reason to cancel or reschedule, I wouldnt even question the cancelation fee--read all about it when we booked two weeks ago. But we have covid... Happily would provide test results if they had been requested, but they were not.Real classy, Management of The Dunes Resort.
Always an excellent stay, clean and spacious rooms, friendly staff, well maintained property and awesome pool deck. Stayed in October 2020 and cant wait to return this summer.
From out of state and stopped here for a drink as it was recommended by friends in Grand Rapids. Fun spot, great people!
The Dunes never fails to impress with a 4th of July weekend like no other! The staff is welcoming and the crowd is magical. Bring the boys, meet some new friends or both!
This place is as exciting as a retirement home. The guys are all 50 plus and at least 50 lbs over weight. You can have exciting events like drag bingo, a Christmas tree in July or burned out dancers from the 90s who cant give the dream up. Noe runs the events, may remember him from Detroit when he drove menjoes into the ground and destroyed what was once one of the most popular bars in the area. This hole is where drag queens, trolls and old circuit dancers go to die. Save your time and money, its over priced for cheap liquor and bad entertainment. Drive someplace with actual entertainment like Chicago!
Great for a getaway weekend from Chicago. Rooms are overpriced and dated. The gay dance club is fun.
Had a great stay over the Labor Day weekend. Staff was uber friendly. Beautiful pool and best tea dance...ever! Looking forward to returning next year!
Great facility. Nice pool to hang out. The staff is super friendly. A grat place to spend the weekend. Near by town has good restaurants.
Been here a couple times over the years in summer and winter and the place is usually pretty dead with expensive drinks. Bartender was straight and kept talking about girls which disappointed me. Accepts credit cards but cant open a tab yet youre the largest gay resort in the Midwest? Sticking to downtown Saug next trip.
I went for a Loose ends party which was pretty fun. Rented a cabin for the weekend which turned out to be a lower unit. The unit smelled of mold and the carpet in the king bedroom was wet in places. Im sure this was caused by all af the rain we had gotten recently. There was a dehumidifier in the unit as well, trying to dry the place out.
Love it there. Open friendly. Great room rate in winter. Always refer to a discount you see online. They wont just give it to you just because
Great location and a good-looking establishment. I love the pool area and tea dance is a good time. Its kinda pricey, though.
Great location for fun in Douglas. Easy to find. Bar with entertainment ranging from DJs to drag shows. Call ahead to see whats going on as it changes in the off season.
Fun place to meet friends for drinks. Outdoor pool area, patio, outdoor dancefloor/deck, indoor dancefloor, and cabaret. Bars in pool area, outdoor deck, inside dancefloor, and cabaret. It also has hotel rooms.
Best place in Michigan to visit in the summer. Love the pool parties and love the DJs and the type of music they play. I’ve been there for many events and I had the best time ever there.
I only gave this one star because I can’t give it negative stars. I have a very large social media presence, and a whole lot of friends in Saugatuck. I will tell everybody that I know, to never go here again. All I wanted to do was use the ATM. I didn’t have a mask and he said I needed one, So I went by the door and grabbed a mask. Then he proceeded to cut me off, snap in my face, rip my card out of the ATM, and kick me out. All while calling me a stupid pothead.
Friendly, courteous staff. Excellent selection of pool/beach wear in gift shop. Outdoor patio expansion very nice.
Always a great time. Been going there for many years. Great facility and friendly staff. Well be back!!!
Had a great stay at the Dunes for an event. Despite it being off season, staff was great, rooms were clean, and were very well accommodated for our event. Would definitely stay again.
Property has had many improvements and looks great...I staying in lower cottage and it was decent....being near the woods means more bugs....ants and spiders....but comfortable and acceptably clean.
Never a dull time at the Dunes. My fiance and I were there for MML weekend. One of the best places to see old friends, make new ones, and have a blast of a weekend.
You want to experience life of luxury in amount of seconds....take yourself to Dunes Resort. Where the free spirits run it, and a negativity is done with.
Great location, a quick drive to Saugatuck proper. Staff is very friendly, great bar and stockade-style patio. Lots of parking, pool is clean.
Loved it!!! Very nice stay and the 2 bedroom cottage omg!! I was very comfortable there will be back with friends enjoyed my stay thanks!!
The bartenders were friendly and fun. We had a great time talking to old friends, meeting new people, and taking in the scenery.
Great atmosphere, multi area bar with music, dancing and places to just hang out with friends.
I have always loved this place every time Ive ever been there the people were fantastic the resort is wonderful I met so many great people over the years but Im at a point where I financially I can not go there as much as I would love to but please go to this place its awesome
A great way to relieve the lockdown of 2020! Drink a couple beers had a few games of pool check out the scenery went to the bushes run into some trees tripped over some trees had to be removed from the bushes lol!!!😎2020
This place is just overrated!! The drinks are over priced and the cover on the Holliday is the same price of a case of beer. I like to go now and then This place needs to be much cheeper to get my business.
Great resort and hotel. Famous for its cabaret nights and Sunday Tea Dance. Very diverse, mixed crowd.
A great place to stay or spend an evening socializing with like minded friends. Hang at the pool.on weekends...dance parties...all in a perfect setting.
Made me feel like home. First time since I left fort Lauderdale in 3/18Will definitely go back very nice and friendly bartenders
It was my first time visiting and it was a lot of fun! Spacious bar, dance floor, and patio with friendly staff.
Had a great time... Attractive men... Attractive women... Had a few drinks... Looked at some pretty people... Looked at some ugly people... Then came home...
What a great resort. Large enough to not be on top of everyone but small enough that you get to know people. Great service!
Dunes and Dudes! What a great time. Love it there. Great pool and dancing! Summer Sunday patio bar b que is so much fun.
Was not impressed with the staff not vary professional or friendly aka real stuck up. We husband and I just look about. Not like leave to somewhere else . Its what we do with not so good service.
It was a great event and it was for mr. Michigan leather which they have supported every year and the dunes has been celebrating the community for 35 years which is awesome.
I only went to the bar. The cover ($20) seemed pretty steep but the crowd was fun.
Very fun experience. Great amenities and parties. The drinks are very strong and reasonably priced.
The Dunes is a great balance of relaxation, enjoying the peaceful surroundings, and turning it up for poolside parties and nighttime events. Always a great time.
The rooms were nice, but their shower drain seemed awfully clogged - taking a five min shower and the tub started filling up, otherwise it was fine.
Awesome awesome awesome resort, highly recommended even as the season opener, this place must be incredible in full bloom. Well appointed and helpful staff always pleasant.
Great cool place full of active people. Its a getaway with a twist. Faint of heart should prolly stay at a motel 6!
We had a great time at bingo. Friendly and inclusive environment. I cant wait to go again!
Nice hotel located in the entrance of Douglas city. Great outdoor spaces, bar with disco and comfortable rooms.
Had a great time. Friendly staff, room was very clean and comfy.
Was over 23 years ago.Went to a private nude beach that was north of oval Beach.
I love this place. It gets really packed on the holidays so make your reservations early
Staff was super friendly and the place is super cool. Cant wait to go back!
Awesome place, handled COVID very well. Had a great time lounging by the pool, reading, drinking, and enjoying the town
This is the first time I stayed here. The rooms were clean, service good .food excellent and had a great time😍
The staff are always the best and the most friendly! This place is a perfect regular for a great summer venue.
Pool area is great, with the bar just off the pool we didnt have to go far for cocktails.
Attended a leather event with a few friends. Good service and strong drinks. Expectedly pricey. Great time all around.
We went to grab a drink and check out the place we heard so much about. The bar was cool and was a lot bigger than we expected.
I met the owners while grabbing a drink and they are incredibly polite and outgoing. An absolute hoot! Will be back!
Rooms are decent. Internet access sucks. Only allow one device for free per room. Have to pay for extras!
Ive stayed here a few times, and always look forward to coming back!
The door was a bit chaotic during Halloween, but a good time was had none-the-less.
The Dunes is always the perfect summer venue! Its easy to drive to and always has everything I need to not have to drive out for the whole weekend!
Great resort and Gay Haven in the Midwest. Nice little town along Southwest Michigan Lake front.
Great resort. Excellent amenities. Beautiful staff. Fantastic music. Will be back!
The Dunes will always provide an experience different from any resort. Its full of fun and events. Definitely worth a shot.
I have not stayed there. I stop by to use the pool, listen to music and have some drinks.
Rude desk staff, unreliable wifi and very uncomfortable beds. I had to cut my stay short. First and last visit
Good place to meet friends. We enjoy BINGO on Sundays and TEA DANCES in the Summer months.
Great atmosphere, fun place to hang in the summer and relax. Drinks are very pricey.
Expensive drink prices! But a fun place to be to meet new people!
We had a great stay with terrific service and accommodations. Thanks, team!!
Beware when renting a room with a hot tub, chances are it wont work and the staff will do absolutely nothing to compensate you for it.
Never a dull moment. Nice rooms in the staff was very helpful. I’ll be back
Sunday Tea Dance!CleanFriendly staff & crowdGreat timeCongratulations on 40 years!
Excellent place for LGBTQ people to vacation! Drinks are great and the atmosphere is fun and friendly.
What a lovely place, the people and atmosphere was so positive and welcoming
Great resort, awesome staff, definitely a good go to spot for a fun and relaxed weekend.
Attended a drag event for charity. Great atmosphere, great people friendly staff. Would recommend/10
We had a nice time. The weather wasn’t the greatest but still had a great time! Thanks for the memories!
Pricey for the quality of the accomodations. But if youre gay, its a nice place to gather.
Went sunday to tea dance. Nice crowd but dj couldnt get them dancing.😥
Great property! LOVE that they are pet friendly for a small fee
Been here many times over the years. Always have enjoyed my stay.
Love coming here. The pool is amazing!
Great accommodations for the price, excellent staff, and superb amenities make this a must-stay in the area.
I love this place. Great bar, great staff, awesome rooms.
Great place to go enjoy yourself, have fun, dance, drink and meet new people.
They Don’t Play African Americans Music At All I Even Asked The Dj To Play A Song He Told Me He Couldn’t That Sucks $600 Payed For the weekend for me to party in Grand Rapids I Don’t Recommend Black Young Dudes To Come Here You Will Be Upset If It’s Not Techno Music There Not Going To Play It
Nice place. Just very expensive drinks $4.75for beer and $4.50 for water is ridiculous
I am here for a four day vacation and I am having a blast, they have provided almost everything I need, the rest I brought.I will be coming back next summer!!
