This place is great for catching a show! While the drinks and food arent exactly cheap, theyre not crazy expensive either. Compared to what you usually find in NYC, its actually quite reasonable. The cocktails are crafted with care, and I especially enjoyed their Mc Donald style shoestring fries – theyre crispy, very generously portioned, and perfectly seasoned. The sound quality is good, creating an intimate atmosphere. Pro tip: make sure to snag a good seat for the best experience – just steer clear of the columns! Overall, its definitely a spot worth checking out for a night of entertainment.

The food, the drinks, the vibe are all great. But the sound mixing is TERRIBLE. You can hear the INSTRUMENTS really well - so well you cant hear anything else like the voices. EVERY SINGLE TIME - the sound mixing means you cant hear the voices. Doesnt matter that many people in the audience complain - it never changes. So, if its instruments you want to hear - great! But if you want to hear singing - pick a different venue.

A wonderful NYC performance venue that I’ve been to many times for the kind of artistic performances you wouldn’t find anywhere else. The food, the drinks, meh. Two drink minimum per person or drink and food. Drinks are kind of stingy. It adds up quickly …so basically when you factor in the cost of your ticket plus the food and beverage minimum you are not getting out of there for less than $100 -$125 a person for a less expensive show or even up to $150 for a higher price show. Still a great time but I just wish they could improve the food quality.

Patrons beware - poor audio engineering so very loud, so when buying tickets be sure to get seats in the back because they dial up the sound a lot, too much for a venue this small. We were at the tables in front the the sound drowned out the singer. She was great but the amplified sound drowned her out sometimes.Plus, this is more of a cabaret style theater. Not sure why they’re trying to go for club volume, especially given that it drowned out the musician I came to hear.

Most the greatest indie broadway shows played here before opening. Stars have graced this stage. The atmosphere is great here and the service is excellent. I really enjoyed my time here, I would recommend you to come to their hilarious shows, Def once in the lifetime would not hurt you if laughter is not your thing Def dont come here because they might make you peep your pants in how funny they can be while performing. Drinks are amazing, I love the curry cashews, I would be back only for that. It was phenomenal to be here.

I came here for a musical performance, but they were issues had nothing to do with that that made my experience less than pleasant… First of all, trying to get tickets from their website when you’re blind is practically impossible and I actually had to contact someone who was able to order the tickets for me! The other big issue is that when I arrived, it was impossible to pull up my actual ticket even though the email I had stated my table and seat, an employee seated me at the table, but a seat facing away from the performance so that my back was turned to the artist for the entire show! I believe this was done because the person figured because I was blind. It didn’t matter what direction I was facing, which is not true… Other customers were seated incorrectly at my table due to this and the person asked them if they wanted to move which they didn’t and didn’t ask me what I wanted! If the performer goes to this venue again, I will unfortunately be forced to return, but otherwise I’m never coming to this place again

This is not a pub. Hostile staff.I (musician from the Netherlands, Europe) was invited by my daughter (US) to visit a pub with live music in NYC for my birthday. As a live musician, I was excited to visit her and go to a pub and enjoy live music, nice atmosphere, good beer and american food. A pub where you can go to, talk about life at home in Europe, in the US, having fun with the musicians and a great night.Expectations were set …….It turned out to be an “artistic” event were the music was the main purpose for the audience, who looked like intellectual non-binary discussers who sushed us when we were sitting in the venue, talking about life and other general non-intellectual stuff. In the meanwhile the musicians were playing their introvert-sensitive stuff, guitar badly strummed, which was good enough to function as musical wallpaper filing up the emptiness of space in this strange atmosphere which was definitely not a pub.So we decided to leave quitely after paying the bill to the “waiter” and saying politely goodbye to the sushers in front of us. The “waiter” was a slow guy, but that’s another story. In the lobby we were stopped by a woman of the staff, who immediately attacked us verbally and was very mad about us. In her words, she had been “monitoring” us constantly during the 15 minutes we were sitting in the audience and instead of doing a pro-active action at the moment she was irritated by us, by explaining us the purpose of the “show”, she waited as a hungry lioness for the right moment to attack and strike. Our explanation about our expectations of a pub with music, did not break her wall of ignorance, so we left the venue and went to a great pub with good beer, food and most of all a great atmosphere and superfriendly staff. The evening ended good for us, leaving sad and bitter people in Joe’s-not-a-pub.You are not what you want to be by just saying what you want to be.

The drinks are super expensive. The worst part was that we got terrible table behind a column, and the waiter told us that we can maybe talk with the box office, and claimed that these are cheaper seats and that the partial view is indicated in the ticket selection. But it was not cheaper, nor indicted. So that was annoying...

Great venue for comedy (I was there to see Jeff Hiller), though somewhat understaffed...rushing maniacally to serve your two drink minimum before they kick you out. I got my first drink later than halfway through the show, and the second just as the comedian ended his set, and lights were on and people expected to leave just as I was taking my first sip of the second drink (and they were tiny, ice-heavy cocktails for $19 a pop). The waiter was terrible on top of it, but the venue gets a bad review because there is no customer inputted tip amount, the custome must select an option. I think this place is ripping people off now. Ticket prices are the same as they were ten years ago, but service shouldn’t be rude just because the venue has gotten cleaner over the last ten years. One star- for the service and then the pay machine. The space was clean, nicely lit before the performance, and has a very chill environment with the candles and decor. Now, the food was tasty, but the price is high even for the area. We ordered the tacos (nicely seasoned, tender pork, could use a bit more depth in flavor with some additional ingredients, but tasty and I liked it), fried macaroni balls (slightly too salty) and fried calamari (never can go wrong and this is no exception). It came out to 51 dollars, but you are paying for the show/dinner experience so I didnt mind. I did not realize that one of the 2 seats I booked would have a HUGE column blocking the entire stage. The floor plan did NOT make that clear. Also, every performer billed when I got the tickets decided to not show for the actual show! Hello? I want my money back!So the few songs performed were last minute, sloppy, off theme, and unrehearsed, and some talent was great, others kind of less than mediocre. Then, to totally ruin our supposed getaway from reality, the last (out of 10?) songs turns out to be about the school shooting - total politics. So this is what I flew a friend to NYC, and paid to see to get away from problems were going through?! NEVER AGAIN. You blew it suckas.

I just got home from this location after seeing a wonderful performance by Jamie Leonhart. Her show was great, but the restaurant service was incredibly poor. Tl;dr: Go for the show, try to avoid ordering food if you can. When we got the tickets, they were for the last table available in the venue, so my coworkers and I expected it to be busy. Half of us arrived a little early, and were seated while we waited for our other half to arrive. Seeing as how there were only two of us seated at the time, our waiter stopped by and only dropped off two drinks, stating he would be back shortly to take our orders, etc.In the meantime, our other two friends arrived, and we waited about 10 minutes for the waiter to return. He dropped off two more waters, and asked what we would like. All of us ordered both food and drink, except for one who had yet to decide on anything. Our waiter said he would put our orders in, and then come back in a few minutes to grab hers. This all happened shortly before the show began.About 10 minutes later, after the show has started, our waiter returned to take the last order, but didnt bring our other drinks.5 minutes later, a random waitress dropped off the drink that was ordered later than the rest of ours, but nothing else.Another 10 minutes later, we finally get the drinks we ordered. No food had yet to be dropped off, but I assumed my simple fry order was just going to be delivered with the more complicated orders of my group.About 30 minutes after that(approximately halfway through the show), still no food to be seen. Our waiter returns, says the reason our food is taking so long is because the health inspector showed up at the start of the show and shut down the kitchen in order to inspect it. This is surprising to me, because not only did this show start a little after 7pm, but Id never heard of a health inspector halting restaurant activity at the height of a profitable night to conduct an inspection.Show ends, over an hour after we ordered our food, and nothing was brought to us. We asked that the order just be cancelled, and we decided to just go find cheaper food elsewhere. We were told its no problem, they apologized, etc. We mention that we didnt meet the $12 food/drink minimum that was set when the tickets were bought, and were assured there wouldnt be an issue; our waiter would just charge us for what we got.We receive the checks, everything is in order, I owe $7 and change for the one drink, cool. I put a $10 in the book, and my friend pays his bill with a card. A few minutes later, another waiter that we are seeing for the first time returns his receipt and card, but I dont get my change.A few minutes after that, our original waiter comes and asks if I got my change. I said no, he apologizes and runs to go get it. He comes back, tells us to have a good night, apologizes once more and is on his way. I open the book and I see that I didnt even get all my change back. All in all, I enjoyed the show, but the service left a lot to be desired. Our original waiter was a nice guy, but his kind attitude just cant make up for the rest of this places shortcomings. My parents have worked in the food industry since before I was born, so I like to think Im pretty accepting and patient when things happen at a restaurant. But Ive never NOT received a meal, poor communication, and only partial change on a bill before.

Five star performances with a 2 star overpriced menu. Please give us a way to order a small bite and a drink for the requisite $12. Or create a menu so enticingly delicious that we want to spend $30+ per person!

Saw Christin Milotti here on May 27, 2013; she was amazing, backed by a pianist, two guitarists, and a drummer. Thats about as many musicians that can fit on the small stage. This club is stylish, high-ceilinged, and perfect for a date night. Booked a seat online for the table in front of her mic stand; good value in a city where you can pay much more for a much-inferior venue and no guaranteed seating. Sound volume at the front table was comfortable and not overwhelming.Tables are tightly packed together; my seatback was touching the seatback at the next table over. This isnt all that much different from the Village Vanguard or Smalls. Birdland is much more spacious, in comparison, and a small tick more stylish and sophisticated. As other reviewers have noted, theres a $12 food or a two-drink minimum. I had a chocolate panna cotta, which was excellent value at $9, and a sparkling water, which was not -- also $9. On the other hand, the service was prompt and friendly.Id definitely go back.

Joe’s Pub is home to one of my favorite events in New York City, the CMA Songwriters Series. These concerts occur about twice a year and feature some of the top country music songwriters, in an intimate setting, playing their hit songs. If you even vaguely like country music, these shows are seriously awesome and you should go check them out.The venue has communal seating, lit only by candlelight, giving off a dark and sultry atmosphere. And, while I don’t expect a music venue to have great food, Joe’s has a surprisingly tasty menu.My favorite menu item, Joe’s Pub burger, comes standard with a burger lover’s trio – cheese, bacon and caramelized onions. Instant heave. This burger is enormous. Joe’s Pub doesn’t shy away from toppings, as melted American cheese envelopes the burger, oozing down the sides and onto the plate. Gobs of caramelized onions and a healthy serving of bacon top the cheese and beef combo. At first bite you realize how tender and juicy the beef is. The bacon adds a hint of salt as the cooked to order meat dissolves in your mouth. The buns are nothing short of a challenge. They are enormous and put up quite a struggle for those trying to consume all vertical layers of bread, onion, bacon, burger and cheese in one bite. The fries don’t disappoint either. These thin and crispy potato sticks are doused in salt, perfect to keep you ordering more beer. The VerdictI love country music and that’s more than enough to keep me coming back again and again to Joe’s Pub. Seriously, the shows are awesome and you should check them out. A major plus is the delicious food. Joe’s Burger is my go-to meal every time I’m here and it always lives up to my hopes and dreams. Don’t think this place stops at your typical bar food either. The kitchen puts out dishes such as grilled branzino, orecchiette and flat iron steak as well. Great food at a great concert venue, check.
