Seems smaller than it used to be but I guess that happens in timeWe had an interesting dance lesson. They focused on bachata, not salsaThe DJ was playing some great music all nightNot the easiest place to find. You have to find the door thats not marked that goes upstairs. Its located to the right of the restaurant/ bar thats downstairs and they dont unlock it till 9
I’m a dancer, took my partner that doesn’t really know salsa. We had a great lesson before the night started! He feels more comfortable with the style now!
The men are not interested in dancing with beautiful dark skin women like me. I used to go all the time but got tiered of dancing in the mirror with myself and I have black male friends who have complained about being rejected even when they are really good dancers.
Very fun experience and will be going again with friends! Loved the salsa and bachata lessons on Friday! Its something fun to do to meet people and learn something new. I would highly recommend coming early to the lessons if you need some more practice or are a beginner.
They charge for you to get in and when you order they add tip value that you didn’t give. Charged me double the amount I spent on tip and didn’t tell me. Place is boring in general
The salsa lessons were amazing! (And free) People happily danced well after the lessons and it was an amazing chance to just get out in Philly without spending a ton of money. People were also incredibly friendly and respectful and there were so many incredible dancers!
I so enjoyed the salsa dancing and friendlyness of the patrons it was wonderful.
Update: As of August 2023, things have overall improved at Brasils. I noticed the shift in January of this year and there has consistently been a greater number of people, an increased number of women, and more regular appearance of people in the 20s age group. Some of this is attributable to the appearance of graduate students who are in the city during the academic year, but there has also been more regular, even if still basic, advertisement on social media. Even during the summer, numbers have been somewhat respectable albeit slightly unpredictable.Brasils is open three nights a week--Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday. If it is the first Thursday of a particular month, then Brasils will also be open. Wednesday is a $7 cover and attracts very experienced dancers. Friday is free and attracts a lot of new faces or people who only go out a few times during the year, so skews more toward beginners or less experienced dancers. Saturday is a $10 cover and usually only attracts people who have made it a point to go out. The first Thursday is a $8 cover and often quite busy, although consists mostly of regulars or people who have been in the scene for a while. If youve never been here or intend to bring a group of people, I would highly suggest going on Friday.Original review (March 2022): Good place to dance salsa and bachata and they do beginner lessons on the weekends before the dance floor actually opens up. No cover on Fridays and $10 cover on Saturdays. Canned drinks are decently priced although mixed drinks and shots get expensive. That said, this place would be much better if there werent so many guys and so few gals. As a guy, there isnt a good dynamic when every male in the establishment is literally chasing after a limited number of female dance partners, and it especially screws over beginners who need the partner dancing experience. Also, the diversity of the crowd isnt the greatest as it tends to have mostly older people (30s-50s) and couples with some of the same people showing up every weekend. If the marketing and advertising were better (i.e. an active Instagram account), Im positive this place would get more people, including better representation from the 20s age group. Theres no reason this place shouldnt be more popular when Lucha Cartel and Cuba Libre do similar things and get better turnout due to strong advertising on social media platforms
Super fun for dancing, and the staff and service is amazing! Came for the salsa dancing and was not disappointed! I feel like a pro now. Also had a great time at the bar. We ordered a hookah up from downstairs an they have really good happy hour deals. Kat and Vanessa we two of the servers working when I was there and they were very quick, and super friendly. Cant wait to come back another night soon!
Great spot for dancing salsa on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Some nights include beginner lessons that are set up so you dont need a partner. Simple bar and a great vibe.
I started dancing at Brasils a year ago and havent stopped since. The instructors and lessons are phenomenal, the bartenders are loads of fun, and the vibe of the entire place makes me excited to go back every time. Even the customers, including the first-timers, as well as the regulars are an absolute blast to enjoy evenings with every week. This Latin club has had a lasting impact on my time in Philly, and will remain one of my fondest memories.
So my lady and I went to the Brasils for the first time last night (9/24/2022) because it was recommended by a good friend of hers. I ordered some drinks for me and my lady. When I went to order again the bartender didn’t want to attend us cause we didn’t “take care of her”, basically tip her after it only being the first round of drinks. Then she disrespected my lady by saying that she was Intoxicated and that was another reason why she didn’t want to serve us, mind you we only had one drink. Never will I step foot in there again and would never recommend it to anyone because of the level of unprofessionalism displayed by the bartender.
Great places atmosphere is great. You can also learn how to salsa for an hour Saturdays. But the bartender service is extremely slow I cant stand it. We had this huge jacked guy make are drinks. He was slow and didnt knew how to make drinks. Asked for a kamikaze and got a bay breeze. He needs to be fired.
A bit on the smaller side for a club, but definitely one of the best salsa clubs in philly. They offer free salsa classes a few times a week. Its a great way to try something new and meet new people. I only wish the served larger mixed drinks. The red bull vodka glass I received was on the shorter side.
Great place to go salsa dancing in the city! Free dance lesson every first Thursday of the month. Great instructors and dj!
Great place to dance. Beers are about in line with what one would expect to pay. Saturday night there will be a $10 cover to be prepared going into that.I’m only taking a star off because the motion sensor controlling the light in the men’s bathroom is set for like 20 seconds so I spent half my time in the bathroom peeing in the dark. Not cool 😂
Went to the salsa dance instruction class Wednesday night and had a great time! The instructor was good at directly both men and women and made it fun. Then it was open-floor dancing. My only wish is that the space was bigger. I most definitely go back.
Celebrated my birthday here last night and it was a GREAT time! Good music and the place is bi level. Amanda was a HUGE help over the phone setting things up for me and the BEST bar tender ever. Shout to amanda for being awesome!
Disappointed that I can’t get anyone to answer the phone or call me back. I lost an item there and I have tried all methods of communication. Facebook messaging, calls and voicemail. I don’t live in Philly and I can’t stop by to check for my item. Poor communication
Brasils is one of the best club to salsa. I also like the fact how they provide free 1 hour free salsa lesson and drink specials. I meet a lot of wonderful people who I became friends with at the club. The bartender are also wonderful and make the best mojito’s and drinks.
Fun place to learn and practice Latin dancing.
Ordered a soda and the bartender brought the wrong soda and charged me $7 for a soda when the more expensive beers were $3. Waited 20 minutes for the soda too. It took 10 minutes for the bartender to stop avoiding eye contact and serving tons of people that came to the bar after me and 10 minutes to get the drink since she spent 9 of those minutes casually chatting with a friend of hers that came in. As I it was the wrong soda too. It wasn’t even relatively close like me ordering a Coke and getting a Diet Coke instead. When I tried to politely correct her she she just shrugged and said $7.Last time I go to this place
The best burgers in the area. Friendly staff, nice beach like atmosphere across the street from the Akumal Beach (the beach where you can see the famous turtles).
Fridays & Saturday nights are the best if you want to dance Salsa, bachata, merengue. Starts at 9pm, come at 9pm for the dance lesson. It gets really crowded by 11:00pm and dancing is tight. But a great Latin dance night. We go , dance the lesson, have some drinks and dance till it gets too crowded to show off , then we bar hop Olde City philadelphia.
Very nice place to learn how to dance. I have been going for about a year now, met the love of my life, and am glad they still here after covid. Get back out there and have fun!!
$10 cover for men, forced to coat check and pay extra, expensive drinks, and they refuse to serve water (only bottles for $3). Dance lessons are fun, but not worth it.
Philadelphia Entertainment Photographer - I have spent a lot of time here and what a great night out. The Fast and Friendly staff does an amazing job at bringing a Latin feel to Old City Philadelphia. At first you may be intimidated by some of the great Salsa Dancing that is going on, but no worries, Almost anyone there including the staff will not let you be a wall flower and you will pick it up in no time! Had so much fun learning some basic steps before the party got started! This is a great place to immediately break the ice and meet new people. I would certainly go back
Salsa is NOT brazilian. People in Brazil dont even know what that hispanic dance is (brazilians are NOT hispanics). Many brazilians dont like or dont even know what salsa is (trust me)...what the rec someone decided to establish a place call brazilian salsa???? LOL
I went to Brasils tonight and asked two bartenders for some tap water. They both refused to serve me any. I have never seen a bar that serves alcohol to refuse any client who is asking for water.
Amanda made me the best drink I ever had!! She is truly amazing!!!! Brasils is best place for Latin dancing!!
Great Dance nights! Brasils knows how to host a Latin nights. Good music, good crowd and a fair cover.
I thought it would be brazilian music, but there was playing salsa and other latin musics from hispanic countries, what is nice too, just not what I expected for the place be named Brasils.
Great place to learn how to dance basic salsa moves. My wife and I went there and we had a chill time
The worst place. If you are interested in going to dance to Brazilian music. Its not going to be because there are not only Latin Brazilian music.
Love this place, the dance lessons are very Fun! And they have the best Mojito‘s around .
Has dancing, food and bar. Located on 2nd floor. A little small but nice atmosphere and friendly people.
BEEN HERE A FEW TIMES WITH MY SISTER ..ITS OKAY I GUESS I WOULD GO BACK BUT THE DJ PLAYS THE SAME SONGS OVER AND OVER AGAIN I NEED SOMETHING DIFF U KNOW LIKE HECTOR LAVOE OR WILLIE COLON PLAY MORE BACHATA I NOTICE HE DONT PLAY CUMBIA MUSIC I NEED MORE PLAY SOME CELIA CRUZ ..GET IT RITE:)
The vibe was a little off when I visited. It felt like a boring party in an attic. Cover price was a rip off.
Salsa, Bachata, merengue music. A dance place. Dont expect their drinks quality.
A popping and chill place to hangout with friends. Hookah and liquor prices are decent. Do recommend checking it out
Wack. Not for everyone. Make sure you like the vibe before getting in. $10 cover charge on Saturdays.
On the small side for a night club but music was good. Drinks were reasonably priced.
Great nightclub! Restrooms could be cleaner though
Great Dance nights! Brasils knows how to host a Latin nights. Good music
Nice place to dance lessons backstage and more salsa please
