Saw Christian Johnson live here and absolutely loved his performance! It was incredibly funny, the stage was perfect, and the lightning was great. The servers here were absolutely lovely - they were so nice and attentive. The food on the other hand was pretty expensive for the quality. An extra three dollars for some bland fries is ludicrous. Also, when I was there, I had made a reservation for one. Got there well before the show time, and was planning on having a great time, but 20 minutes after the show had started, a server came up with a stranger and seated them at my table. It was so awkward and it honestly irritated me. What was the point in paying extra if you had to sit with someone you didnt know who arrived well after the showtime? As an introvert, this was one of my worst nightmares. All in all, it was a decent experience but itll probably be one of my lasts. Great comedy celebrity selection though. I was so happy to see Christian live!
Overall decent experience seeing Nimesh Patel on 7/9/24.Pros: Prices were reasonable, staff was fine. We found parking very close with no issue.Cons: There’s no air conditioning, and unfortunately we were there during a 100° + heat wave. Waiting in line getting our tickets was hot and the stage & seating room was even hotter. Luckily they provide you with paper envelopes to store your phone in during the performance which doubled as a handheld fan for most folks. Water was available at the bar & wait staff came around once during the show to refill water.Lastly, there’s an arbitrary $7 service fee tacked on when buying your ticket online. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but it starts you off with an eye roll.Ticket was $22, service charge $7, then a coke & fries was $13 + tip.
First-time here and late post alert !!⚠️📢- A must-see, in my opinion!- First time walking in was nice, checked IDs, and tickets, and we were then able to go into the lounge where you can get drinks/food.🚗🎟- As we wait for the show to start, note that each guest needs to have a 2-item minimum (2x drink or mix and match with food)2️⃣‼️- I do wish they had more options for drinks for someone who doesnt drink too much.🥤🧃- The sitting was well placed, and I can say everyone can see well in all directions.- We ended up buying some merchandise and getting a photo and signed poster with the 2 comedians we saw!👕👕- This place definitely left an impression on my partner and I and would recommend it to anyone to go check it out.🅰️➕️➕️➕️
My husband and I were in the mood for a spontaneous date night and stumbled upon the Helium Comedy Club. The venue has a great atmosphere. The show was fantastic, filled with non-stop laughter. The comedian took us by surprise with their unabashed adult humor and language—definitely not for everyone, but we thoroughly enjoyed it.The only downside for us was the unexpected 2 item minimum for food and beverages per person. Maybe I missed the fine print on the ticket, but definitely caught by surprised. Having just indulged in dinner and drinks elsewhere, we felt a bit pressured to order more.Overall, Helium Comedy Club delivered on the laughs and entertainment front. Its a great spot for a lively night out, just be prepared for the 2 item minimum if youve already had a full meal which is why I am giving it 4 stars. We’ll definitely consider coming back for another night of comedy!
Great comedians, reasonably priced drinks. The tables are pretty cramped even for a comedy club. But definitely will go back. They do a nice job of making vegan food available.
Love this space. Love the acts. Staff has always been great. This past weekend there was no AC during the heatwave which was definitely a big damper on the night for everyone including myself and the comics on stage. Not sure if this is a regular thing for them or if the AC was just broken (would love to get an answer from the venue, as it was unclear when I was there, whether it was one-off thing or not). It definitely won’t stop me from returning. HUGE fan of everything else, but the lack of AC was a huge distraction from the acts and quite the bummer. LOVE YOU GUYS ANYWAYS!
I have now been here twice for two different live podcast shows. This venue is great. The only downfall is how squishy the seating can be. Its a nice intimate venue, though, so thats a good thing. Their food and drinks are also decent, and the staff is always really nice. Great vibes, overall. I will definitely be back for even more shows.
Fluid ticket booth movement and courteous and efficient staff. Solid drinks and tasty food choices. My qualm was seating a four top at a tiny table, but I understand its about the show. I was put behind a man to which was a head and shoulders above me which prevented viewing much of the show. Ill work with staff for better logistics next time. A great place for Portland nonetheless!
The servers were great and the food was good. Got to see Brad Williams which was Awesome and plenty of laughs. I know it was the last show of the night and they were extremely behind because they did 2 shows prior that day. I would have to admit it is not worth buying a reserved ticket. You pay more and the seats arent better. You are better off taking your chances and getting general admission. The reserved seats went in last. They arent even upfront which I thought would be since you pay more. We had a hard time seeing the comedian and the servers, employees and guest are constantly walking in front of your table so you really dont see much. We should of either been placed in the front tables or put at the tables that are a little higher up. Otherwise why would you oay for reserved seats if not for better seats. From talking to other people who here often they all agreed. Many said its a waste of money. Also I would like to add that most of the people in the front row area did not have a reservation and they got seated first
The comedians are always great, however it feels like a sauna in there on hot days. Please fix/turn on/get AC. Also if there’s a 2 item per person minimum for food/drinks decent food would be appreciated. The food taste like cafeteria food.
Saw Benedict here with my friend last night. The comics were amazing, the staff were all so sweet and attentive. I was honestly shocked. The only reason Im giving it such a low score is that something has to be done about this menu. FOR THE LOVE OF JEEBUS PLEASE hire a professional to design a better menu for your business. Its pathetic when we live in a city that is supposed to be known for its food. We are willing to pay for an experience and food is a huge part of that. I read reviews before coming last night and pretty much every review says the same thing. Give the people what they want!
2 stars mainly for the wasted money. I paid an extra $10 a ticket for reserved seats and we sat at some random table that people who bought regular tickets sat next to us. And it’s not like the server helped us first or anything, we didn’t even get asked if we wanted food until the headliner was half way finished. So I’m wondering why I paid extra for literally nothing? I’d have been happy with at least being able to pick where I wanted to sit instead of just some random side table. Also I’ve come to helium several times and it always boggles my mind that a place that requires a certain number of items bought, in the most vegan city in the U.S. doesn’t make any effort to offer vegan items. $10 for a sad basket of fries? Or even worse, $20 for a mediterranean plate that I can’t have several of the items that come on it? Id love to come enjoy comedy and eat dinner instead of eat first or after.
The talent was fabulous. I wish there were maybe some dessert options on the menu and maybe something a little less fried, like a sandwich or maybe some soup or even a burger or pizza. The pretzel bites were my favorite, super delicious. I was really disappointed by the bathroom, had a very dirty-bar vibe. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Nice and clean and safe club. Bartenders friendly. When its packed it can take a bit to get your order but in general its a very nice fun and safe space to laugh!
Excellent comedy. I’ve been here over 50 times I’ve purchased hundred of tickets and I’ve never been offered free seats. That’s not my complaint though. It’s the chairs they’re so uncomfortable and old that I don’t think I can do it again. I’ve been to comedy clubs all over the country and the Portland helium has the worst most uncomfortable chairs you’ll ever sit in. 2 hours will ruin you. Please upgrade these chairs
Has a two item (drink or food) minimum which wouldn’t be a knock if their food & drinks weren’t the worst ever. All of their food is absolutely terrible - straight out of a freezer into a fryer. Borderline inedible. Their cocktails are similarly awful, tastes like they’re made for high schoolers and are more than 1/2 sugar.Whenever we reluctantly go, because someone we love is there, it’s canned drinks only. We’ve seen some great comics here but I avoid this venue at nearly all costs.
No Air Conditioning during Tim Meadows set 7/7. It was an 98 degree day. He was sweating profusely, uncomfortable, shirt soaked. He mentioned the heat several times and tried to make a joke about it, but it was clear he was in discomfort and that spotlight didn’t help. Even still he provided a great show. The crowd was just as hot, using our menus as fans. Servers took forever to bring water. Get some AC for crying out loud!
Everyone was perfectly nice. However, I never would have bought tickets if I know we’d be packed in like sardines with no air conditioning. If was way too hot inside, I broke a sweat just sitting there.I had to sit in front of my husband with two other people (that’s 4 total) at a two top, which was pressed up against a wall. There would barely have been enough room for two people to have dinner and drinks at the table, let alone 4.I also wasn’t aware there’d be a two-item minimum once we got inside, which for some reason didn’t include the drinks we bought at the bar. I couldn’t eat eat most of the things on the menu (wheat allergy) so I had to buy 3 drinks total.Overall way too expensive for the experience.
Show was good but that’s due to the comedian not the venue. Sound system was not that great, the space was—intimate , felt like I was being shouted at. They don’t do food customization which I’d stupid considering he 2 item minimum. Fries were good. They really should update their POS system though because the staff walking back and forth was not the vibe, they got in the way of seeing the comedian and their screen brightness was high. Would come back tho. Bathrooms stinks and are not clean. Furniture needs improvement.
Loved it!All the staff were super friendly — even Jeremy (I think that was his name) on the phoneOur server was super sweet and she was fast considering how many tables were in her area. We ordered a bottle of wine and a few snacking foods. The woman who was doing all the intros (assuming she is local) was really funny and she did a great jobWould go back here again and again. Thanks for the good service and the laughs !!
So many good performers come through here. Always a great time. They serve food and drinks even during the show. No bad seats, and much better atmosphere than the big venues.
Great Comedy, terrible drinks. Ive been multiple times to the Helium Comedy club over the years. Great environment, shows are very funny, the food is OK, the Cuban sandwich was awesome but it is no longer in the menu. What has not improved over the years are drinks quality, it seem they focus on faster service rather than quality in their bar.
I hadn’t been to Helium since before the Pandemic but went recently/earlier this week for a show. I had the best time ever! The staff were amazing, the food and drinks were spot on 🤌 performance and ambiance was everything I’d hoped for and more! Thank you Helium Comedy Club for existing and providing such a kickass experience 🔥💜✨
I’ve been to many comedy clubs/shows, including NYC and I must say that I really loved this venue. It seemed intimate and all the staff I encountered were very friendly and helpful. It was a seamless check-in process. I just so happened to be visiting Portland when my favorite comic was going to be there. The menu isn’t extensive and there could be some more offerings, but I didn’t go there hungry, but was happy that it was a 2-item minimum and not just a 2-drink minimum like most clubs. If I’m ever in the area again, I would consider returning.
We went during the tryouts for funniest person in Portland. Just like many other people have said, you have to have an AC. There is no way you can get away with not having an AC working when tempatures are even over 80 degrees let alone 95 degrees. These people on stage should at least be comfortable performing. I just cant even imagine what the servers and the people with a spot light on them are going through. Is this an out of sight, out of mind issue? Do the owners not care enough about their staff or customers because they arent around? Lets face it, every business needs an AC if you are open in the summertime. If your indoor tempatures are surpassing 80 degrees, you should not be open. There are temporary solutions you can use to make it better without completing updating the AC. Look into things like Portacool Jetstreams. They are no louder that a box fan. We use these in our warehouse and they cool the place down really well. The only reason for the 1 star is for the AC. For it to go on this long - seems a bit intentional. The servers were awesome and super patient. The food I cant complain because it makes perfect sense for the venue to have easy food to make (I get it). The hummus plate was actually good and very fresh. The venue was really cool... just get that AC working. Nothing ever gets done unless sh-t hits the fan. Well, there was no fan to throw sh-t at, so here I am.
Comedy was great staff did a wonderful job, the food was some of the saddest food. Like its all frozen and poorly heated up. sauces were low grade and didnt help. I didnt know they sold fries that sad to institutions that arent school cafeterias. For the price of food (2 item minimum) it should be at least a step up.Eat a full meal elsewhere, spend your 2 item minimum on drinks and enjoy the laughs.
Super nice club and very comfortable seating. Great food menu. Only downside was we had to park by homeless tents so the whole time we were in the club we were praying our car didnt get broke into. The club is awesome though! Uber or a taxi there would be ideal.
Bought tickets to the Mariah Bamford show on June 27th. When we arrived we learned the show had already started because they changed the show to an earlier time. Person there told us we could just show up to the later show. That seemed wrong to me, so I asked him to clarify and he said it would be perfectly fine to show up for the later show even if our tickets were for an earlier show.No problem, so we left and waited for the next show/. When we arrived they told us we had to be waitlisted, and the guy was incredibly rude, blaming us for missing an email. It was a pretty terrible experience, I wish you could have just made an effort to fix the situation, and at least refund instead of lying to us in the first place. Pretty big scumbag move. I get you oversell your shows but it doesnt give you the right to treat customers like garbage.
Went to see Michelle Wolf on a Tuesday night and had a great time! This was my first time at Helium and I was impressed and am eager to go back. The seats and the service was amazing. There was a two item minimum but do realize this is part of what makes it possible for this comedy club to operate. The area is a bit sketchy but thats outside the clubs control, just make sure you dont leave valuables in your car.
Great! Saw Godfrey, absolute must if you can catch him.Get there early and wait in line if not reserved. They seat preferred the not so preferred as it fills. Worth the wait in the lounge.
Worst service ever! We’re told to we had to buy 2 drinks… we ordered one and then they never came back then came to bring us our check after the show and charged us for 2 drinks and auto 20 % tip for both drinks cause we had a party of 7. I will drive to Tacoma for all my comedy shows moving forward
This is a great club! The venue is tight but open and everyone can see the comedian, the servers were friendly and helpful and the comedy was great! And I had a mix-up with my tickets but the staff was very helpful and friendly on helping me resolve it! Great Experience!!
Its definitely a quaint gathering and very much appreciated even tho perhaps purely from being mandated due Corona Virus rules, as to capacity. Servers were there prior to show time, and worked the show until about 30 mins. prior to end of the show. There is an elevator i only found out about after the show from following some people there but is for disabled bodies and the elderly. (My foot was healing from being broken and removed early from the boot- and I didnt want to be foolish and hinder the healing process. So, tho I got dirty looks and a border spoke to me telling me not to tell staff I was on the elevator without a legit reason, it was nice to know I could take care of my injured and healing foot/heel without having to climb up and down the stairs there if even only upon the exit.Parking can be interesting. I chose to arrive early and grab drinks at the local bar near there and then grab tickets when doors opened and allowed me to, and sit up at bar outside of main showroom floor and chill for 30 mins. Parked along a street behind the club and parallel to the building as well. Unsure of the parking options but I do not believe they are plentiful without a walk unless you score a closeby spot.Seating is first come, first serve unless one buys tickets other than general admission in which case you are lead to your seats. 2 purchases per ticket holder off the menu is required as well. The food wasnt bad!Enjoyed the experience and laughed hard!♡☆♤🤣💪🙌🤗🤣🤪😂❣🤭🤏💯
The comedy is up to the comedian, but the consistency of the venue is perfect. They dont try and sell a bunch during the shows like some venues. Their cocktails have no variety, but this is a comedy venue not a bar. :)
The comedy club itself was decent, servers were nice. There was a 2 item minimum per person not sure if thats an all the time thing. The area the club is, thats the problem. Didnt think about it and had my backpack in my car. Someone broke my back window and stole my backpack with my work computer. So if you go make sure theres nothing important in your car because your car contents are up for grabs.
I have been here many times to see many great comedians always a good time. Have only had a few that fell off and bombed their set. Highly recommend seeing Troy Bond while he is in town saw him both times he has been to Portland. Both times he truly played off the energy of the room to make it unique without feeling like a script.
Good place. Classic case for a comedy club, with two drink/food minimum. Beware, The re really expensive, and the bang for your buck isnt great, but thats how these venues are. All in all? Good.
Great club, and staff. I was there to see Big Jay Oakerson. Good food. Nice room, good views of the stage. Ample street parking.
Nice place, nice wait staff, two items minimum when I went. The end tab was about 70$, including a general admissions ticket and food and drinks. It was pretty cheap for a fun night out with friends.
Had a great time out with spouse, family and friends… really a nice club enjoyed seeing DL Hughley however, the guy that came up before him his down was the funniest absolutely loved him down to earth and his jokes was great and on point definitely should be on a professional celebrity level. I’ve seen D.L. Hughley a couple times and he pretty much tells the same jokes, he really needs some new material
Lots of top notch comedians on the bill, come see someone you like. The food and drinks aren’t the best value or quality, but decent for a comedy club. Definitely will be back
Our visit was our first time to the Helium, and we were able to park for free on the street just a couple of blocks away. Felt safe, especially for Portland. We saw Jamie Lissow, and he was opened by local comedian Tyler Boah and both were extremely funny. A nice surprise! Jamie even stayed for selfies with the full house after the show. The fries were probably the best Ive ever had, and the Philly cheesesteaks were delicious and filling. Waiter Quentin was so great, and all the staff were very helpful and accommodating. We will definitely return.
Went solo to see a show and accidentally sat in the wrong location. My ticket was rudely snatched from my hand without saying anything to me and was redirected. I was then not approached for table service as I was alone and sat in a chair in a corner
Ive only been here twice but my mom has come more often. Their drinks are quite good, and I like that they have service even while the show is going on. The showroom is the perfect size for it not to feel extremely intimate but also not overwhelming, I hope they never add any more seats. Cant wait for the next show.
My first time here for a comedy show. Initially we made a mistake on our tickets, and they were able to move us to a later show, so we would not miss it!All staff were friendly and authentically cared for our comfort.I only ordered a dessert, but it was awesome! Brownie, chocolate and ice cream. Will definitely watch there calendar for upcoming shows.
First time at any Helium club (it’s a small chain) and first time watching a show in Portland. Similar to many other venues on the West Coast. Online payment, security check, get tickets, two item minimum (got fries and a beer), two warm up acts, then the main person.. in this case we watched Andrea Jin.Before and during the show, servers come ask if you want anything then have last call about 30 mins before the show ends, for some this can be distracting, but others, it can be convenient. Staff were super friendly and quick. And after the show there’s a little area to meet the comic if they want to talk. If not, you just walk down the stairs to exit. It’s right off Hawthorn about a block away from Hawthorne Asylum Food Cart/pods, and two blocks from Cartopia. Also a brewery a block up. Plenty of parking when we went on a Weds night. So with drinks and food readily available before or after the show (with taking account of the 2 item minimum) you should be golden.
This was my first comedy show ever and we had a great time! Great ambiance, pretty much no matter where you sit you have an unobstructed view of the stage which is cool. Its like stadium style seating. Food was good ol delicious fried goodness. We had a sampler plate with chicken strips, mozzarella sticks, pretzel bites, fries, and jalapeno poppers and also the pork sliders. Service was great and we had a good laugh! Would make an awesome date night, first date, or night out with friends or family. Also, it was fairly priced.
I enjoy this place tremendously, even if it’s to small to packed in like sardines, food could be better but the service is wonderful and great talent always comes through.
I never buy tickets to comedy shows concerts ever. It was a real experience to sit in the audience watching comedians I never heard of and lmao. I loved the 2 acts and especially the headliner. He shared a experience that happened to me on stage in front of 3,000 people as I was the open act for Luke Ponte. I froze up forgot my name what Color I was who my momma was n 🚶♀️ quickly to my dressing room defeated.I came back 20 years later same stage sold out n got ❤️. Signed autographs as the host for BET TV HOST BRUCE BRUCE.THANK YOU Adam Connelly for inspiring me even more. I am most definitely a new fan with respect for your gift.#comedianbigComedian B.I.G aka The Black Jerry Mcguire
We’ve seen a few comics here Andrew Schulz, Sam Morril, Mark Normand, Jeff Ross, Brendan Schaub, etc. Staff is always super awesome & friendly and the drinks are great. The size of the room is perfect imo, I’ve gone to theaters and Moda a few times to see comedy and yea, the venue is cool but you always feel that disconnect with the comic being so far away/size of the crowd. Helium is easily the best place I’ve been to for comedy. Very thankful to be able to come here after a long week and enjoy some laughs. Hope to be back soon.
The club is located on the 2nd floor and there is an elevator. The staff is great and its in a good location. There were too many small tables crammed together and we got bumped by other people getting seated. There is a 2 minimum purchase for each ticket holder, but there isnt a gluten free menu. I got the Ceasars salad that was lettuce and parm with dressing and a water, my daughter got pretzel bites that were fried and a little greasy with queso, and my son in law got the falafel bites, which was only 4 pieces, and he said they were ok. And the bill was almost $60 with tip, which is a little pricey for what we got. Especially considering the price of the tickets was an extra cost.
Its an average sort of place. Has a full bar. When you watch a show you have to order 2 items from the menu food or drink which is fine. I ordered the burger with fries instead of chips. It came with an ale which I dont like so I had a small cup of hot tea instead. It was $29 for a small burger and a small handful of fries and a very small hot tea. The burger was ok, the fries were delicious and the tea was tea lol. A lot to pay for a little food. Comedian thay night was ok but thats individual preference and not on the Club. Was $42.99 for a reserved ticket. You can get general for less but the site seemed to indicate there was usually a full room and if you arent there early they dont guarantee you a seat so I bought the reserved. There werent a ton of people definitely wasnt a full house. Waitress was excellent and kept very busy.
World’s most terrible security enforcement a friend and I got kicked out because of another person that sat with us at our table, these people are racist towards people with brown skin, an Indian comedian was performing and we were sittting front row and they want to be racist because we aren’t white and kicked us out of the venue, I will 100% be suing this company for racial discrimination, they can have all the camera footage they want but the staff is racist and I promise this place is going to get shut down
I go to Helium fairly often, and love seeing standup here. Front-of-house staff is always friendly and the waitstaff is very attentive. Downside is that you get packed into your seat. I get that you need to fill the front of the house when a show isn’t sold out, but four people at one table is a bit uncomfortable. Would also love to see some seasonal beers available and a bit more light at the table so the menus are easier to read. Still a great place to see a show.
Wife and I have been twice and had a blast. We saw Randy Feltface a few months back and Adam Cayton-Holland on Valentines Day. Comedy was great. Service was amazing. Food was good too. Everyone was just delightful. Front door guy is my fave. He rocks. I recommend you go to helium and just enjoy yourself. The world sucks but helium helps take the edge off.
I absolutely love this venue. The main act has our cheeks hurting.Ive been plenty of times. This was my first time post lock down. The menu is small. Wish there were a couple more options. Mainly the nachos. Its understandable, though.Service was still as great.I cant wait to be back to enjoy another show.
Ive been there numerous times and have never been disappointed. Good food, good drinks, and hilarious comedians. Even had to push through protesters one night to watch. Thats top tier entertainment. 👌
Best place in Portland for comedy. $7.50 for a Corona is a bit criminal but the food is great and the club is perfect.
Show was excellent, the food is horrible. Portland has enough wonderful eateries to enjoy before coming to watch the show. Again, come for the show, definitely not the food. Im not going to allow the food to ruin the 5 stars because the venue is awesome and Mike Epps and his host were awesome!
My first experience here was seeing Josh Blue. He was amazing. The club is very inviting I really think there are no bad seats you can see the stage from everywhere. Would really like some more menu items that arent deep fried. But overall very enjoyable experience.
Super Great!!! Very reasonably priced for a club. The house salad was Really Good! Cant wait to go back! Open mic is Really Great! Very good comics!!
Great comedians...good drinks....food is all fried
Great show, wonderful space, good food. We will be back!
Space is small so when a top notch comedian comes they really love the art and do better than they would in an arena
My husband asked an employee if we could go to the box office and upgrade our tickets to a seat with a better view (there were many open seats available). The employee said that if he just gave him cash personally that he would sneak us into better seats. He asked my husband how much cash he had on him, even suggested a personal Venmo or cash app transaction of $40 to make the “deal”. Maybe it was all on the up and up? It just felt VERY shady and like the employees have an under the table side scheme of some sort going on, making extra cash by moving people to better seats. Our server forgot about our order of pretzel bites. We ended up getting them just as the show was ending. There was a long line and wait to get into the showroom (understandably). People that were getting drinks at the bar were grabbing their drinks and then cutting straight to the front of the showroom line, that was very frustrating to those who’d been waiting patiently in line. Maybe you could have servers taking drink orders from the line so that everyone stays in line in the order they got there? The comedians were good. We did enjoy that part.
Great staff, great show and cute venue. Very tightly packed. Very warm. Pretty sweaty. There is a 2 item per person minimum inside the showroom so bring money, the spending doesn’t stop at the ticket for entry. I do not like this rule.
I had a wonderful experience watching David Nihill perform at Helium Comedy Club. I loved the venue and the service. I will definitely visit again.
Talent was pretty good, service was fast and efficent. We didnt get food but it looked mostly decent as well.Only downfall is the seating. They cram you in tighter then a can of sardines. I get it your trying to get the most money you can but budget air planes have more room.
The show was great, so are the venue and staff. However, the 2-drink-per-person policy is ridiculous because it it too strictly enforced. In our case, we ordered drinks at the bar before going to our table. We immediately went to our table (with the aforementioned drinks still full) where the waitress told us that drinks ordered at the bar do not count as part of our total numbers of drinks. I get why theres a minimum required, but it shouldnt be enforced this way.
Saw Godfrey was so hilarious waiting staff killed it and everything great atmosphere great event definitely would recommend
I miss Harvey’s Comedy Club. Helium Comedy club I guess is big on liberals because every time I’ve went there they’ve taken a stab at the Republican party. I am there to laugh, not talk politics, and I don’t care about your political views.I’ve been there three times and left early three times. I was there January 2024 to see earthquake and ended up leaving early. He was OK. Probably the best I’ve seen in the three times I went there but nothing kept me in my seat. Nothing made me belly laugh. Nothing made me want to stay until the end and my merchandise.
A great spot to watch a show. The drinks are good and the food is on point. The staff is always nice and helpful. I cant believe they navigate that room in the dark. Definitely recommend coming here to see your favorite comedians.
What a comedy club should feel like.Great experience at a Shapel Lacey show.
The people are really nice. However, we had reserved seats and really couldn’t see. They seated people right in front you and the stage is low, the same height as the floor, crazy. No stadium seating, and some people were so far back, almost around a corner, really. The best seats are probably general admission, if you show up first, and get up behind the reserved section, you can get some height. I couldn’t find anything online about seating. And I’ll be honest, the Samoan guy was the funniest all night and we saw Shang wang. Go Samoan, you rock!
I had an absolute blast. My Cousin Tiera and T Ray were the best comedy combo. There was never a dull moment. The staff were nice. They didnt disturb the show or anything. This night goes down in the books!
Fantastic first experience at Helium seeing Adam Carolla, the service was great as was the food. I planned on using cash I had saved, (but forgot to put it in my wallet!) Everything ended up working out fine, since Helium is cashless and I had a credit card handy! It won’t be my last visit, great time!
Well appointed open area outside of the venue for drink & food before or after shows. The stage area has small tables with chairs that are close together, but doesnt feel too claustrophobic. As other reviews have mentioned all seats have a good view of the stage. My friend did have a poor experience with a member of the wait staff who insisted she ordered something she did not (hence 4/5 stars), but other than that, we enjoyed some good drink & laughs.
Attended 1 of 3, cant be missed, Marc Maron Comedy Shows. All seats are great for the 275 capacity venue. He was so funny and played with the audience. All staff were friendly and efficient.
Good spot for a date night. Come early for better seats
The space was nice and the show was amazing. I had a very nice time! Some things to consider:Pro: I get hot easily and I was actually very comfortable the whole night.Con-ish: The 2 item order per serson is a bit steep on top of tickets, but the food was good, and the root beer was really tastey.Pro: entire entry process was pretty simple. We were at a sold out show, and it didnt take long to get our seats and we were there only 45 mins before the show. I would say that should be the latest you show up.Con-ish: I didnt mind the fact that we had to share a table, as our table mates were great, but I do wish that would have been described online for gen admission, as online it states no standing room, all is seated, but my partner and I shared a table for 2 with another couple.Pro: easy to get to and I found parking really close. Also, biggest con of the night, the card reader super detracted from the show. Beeps the later half of the show was very annoying. But over all an amazing night out!
Went to Helium last night with a small group of friends. We arrived early enough to get a table closer to the stage. It’s an intimate spot above a bike shop, deceptively bigger than I imagined it would be. Not the most dazzling ambiance, but the focus is clearly on the comedians. Comics were all male and white, (unfortunately too common amongst comedy culture overall). The headliner was especially good, probed at the notion of masculinity through a biological, ape-like lens. The waiter was super friendly. Nothing too intriguing on the menu, but again, the place is all about the humans on stage.
Been here a couple of times and each time was a pretty good experience. Clean tables, friendly staff when ordering and getting food/drinks, ticket prices are very reasonable, and the atmosphere in the building is cool. I dont know why but I like having to go upstairs as soon as you walk in in order to get to the tickets and bar.Helium gets a lot of great names, and you can see whos coming well in advance by going to the site and checking their calendar. Some names are booked months ahead of time.Only have a few small negative points to make. One being that theyve let Brendan Schaub perform here a few times instead of just letting everyone have those nights off or doing anything else. Another thing is that if someone sells out and its a bigger name, it becomes PACKED and youll often be seated with other people at the tiny tables. So then its 50/50 on if youre stuck with someone cool and there to enjoy the show, or some drunk that responds to everything the comedian says regardless of where youre sitting. Only other minor gripe is sometimes the staff that tells people its time to go home can be super annoying. Stayed after a 10pm show to buy a comedians merchandise, but was just standing aside because they were talking to another fan for a while, and the kid was relentless in telling everyone else that we all had to go.Still, I definitely enjoy coming here and look forward to what next year has to offer. Very glad it didnt close down during the pandemic like a few others did.
Great act, neat venue, and they have awesome staff that were nice & attentive. However the 2 item minimum per PERSON was a huge bummer since the menu was fairly expensive and there was no note of this on the purchased ticket. This seems shady since everyone is on a budget these days. $9 beers and $10 mid appetizers are not worth it. Cherry Limeade cocktail was really amazing though, even for $12.We also were squished into a small table with another party which was a bit awkward but they were sold out. Unfortunately will not be back unless there’s a comic I really want to see :(
Jeff Allen was SO enjoyable. Top quality and proof that clean comedy is possible! Loved the intimate setting at Helium where all tables are good seats. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality food, drinks, and service during the show. We will be back for other dry bar shows.
I recently attended Drag Brunch at Helium Comedy Club and had an absolute blast! The host of the show kept the audience entertained and engaged throughout the entire event. The brunch itself was delicious, with a wide variety of dishes to choose from. The drinks were also excellent - I highly recommend trying one of their signature brunch cocktails! The drag performances were out of this world, with a mix of lip-syncing, dancing and comedy that kept the audience on their feet. The performers were talented, hilarious and had amazing energy on stage - it was impossible not to have a great time. The staff at Helium Comedy Club were also incredibly friendly and accommodating, making the overall experience even more enjoyable.Overall, I highly recommend checking out Drag Brunch at Helium Comedy Club. Its a great way to spend a Sunday with friends and the show is something that everyone can enjoy. I will definitely be returning soon!StefanieBaileymays Boutique
A lot of fun with a lot of rude employees, the food is not bad and the majority of the comedians were fun to funny with the first two being mostly angry. The guy working the door was very rude while my party waited for our last member telling us we couldnt hangout outside we hD to wait inside and after that the guy collecting tickets said we could chill and wait when we asked him and then came up and told us we had to leave if we didnt sit right away so our party got split up and even when there were still open tables thT could have seated us all the ticket guy told us to bad you should have waited. These interactions made a great night less fun, but thanks to Sheng Wang it still was.Have to say if the comedians had blown it and then walking out of there spending as much as we did on watered down beer and bar food would have made this a horrible night and that would have all fallen on heliums employees shoulders. Still happy to give them four stars but if they want that fifth one they might want to talk to their employees and let them know being rude to their customers is not a good practice.
First time going. I went to see a specific comedian, who was hilarious. The venue itself was nice as well. I would recommend a show there.
Saw Jeff Arcuri on Friday night late show, and had a great time. The venue staff and seating were fantastic. The prices on drinks and food are pretty reasonable as well.
Great experience overall. Make sure you are there early. The lounge fills up fast with people prior to a show. I would recommend reserved seating when purchasing your tickets.
Nice venue with friendly and attentive staff. If youre a group of two you will be seated at a tiny table with two strangers which is a little jarring if you dont expect it. Drinks and food are expensive for what you get. They also apparently have a two item per person minimum, so my partner and met that despite not wanting to eat or drink that much. Then at the end of the night the people next to us hadnt met the minimum, and the waiter told then it wasnt an issue. Nice of him, but Im a little upset that Im out $20 I didnt want to spend but thought I had to. Definitely wont be returning unless theres an act I really want to see, and even then I wont be meeting the minimum item requirements if theyre willing to so easily wave it.
Went to see Ali Siddiq. Great openers, set was nice. The show seemed to be sold out, it was really cramped. Get there EARLY! Service was really good even though it was packed. Drinks were great and not too expensive. 2 item minimum per person. Overall, a great night!
I came here to see a hilarious show for the first time last week. Here are the things that stood out to me.Pros:1. Excellent layout. I literally had the worst seat in the house due to arriving late (get there early if you want a great view) and I was still able to see and hear everything without an issue.2. Friendly, attentive staff and prompt service.3. Great visual ambiance, lighting and sound control for such a small venue.4. It was clean, smelled good and everything seemed in good repair.5. Perfect temperature and good airflow, similar to a movie theater.Cons:1. The food is bland and obviously an afterthought, so dont expect an impressive meal. That said, if thats what you know to expect, it wasnt bad. If they put any effort into the food this place could really be top notch.2. The house mixed drinks were... not good. Strong yes, but not tasty. Should have just ordered a vodka soda or something simple but they still did the trick.3. The hightop seats were pretty uncomfortable.Overall, I had a great time and will definitely be back. Despite the food and drinks leaving a bit to be desired, the venue and the staff are excellent. I recommend visiting and having some good laughs.
Im not the biggest fan of comedy club culture in general. Helium nails the experience though. The seating is always packed tight and theres minimum food and drink purchases per person. So if youre a first timer, just be prepared for those 2 things and youll have a great time. The food menu is pretty basic. They dont cater to food sensitivities. We prefer to purchase reserved seats. The general admission is first come first serve seating. If you have that ticket class and want to sit close to the stage, you have to show up very early to be at the front of the general admission line.Reserved tickets have a reserved table. The lack of waiting in line and stress of getting a good seat FAR exceeds the slight extra cost.Im not sure what was happening on the evening we were there. My husband was using the bathroom before the show and a man, a patron, came flying in, ran into the first stall and was violently projectile vomiting. My husband and some other guys checked to see if he was okay. Apparently he was just over served??Then during the show, I went to use the restroom and a couple was being thrown out for being drunk and unruly. The staff was all very friendly and the show was hilarious. We have tickets again in a couple months! Fingers crossed theres less vomit.
We had a blast. Once we got to our table our waitress came to us and also came by during the show to make sure we didnt need anything else. It was an amazing experience.
So fun! Visited for open mic night as a date with my SO. The comics were really good overall (some better than others, as expected) and the service was excellent. I appreciate that it’s a two-item requirement rather than a two-drink requirement. We spent $45 on food and drink for 5 total items, plus tip for the hard-working waiter!
Love the bar before you get to see the show. I would say the preferred seating is nicer if you want to pay more. But general seating you still get a good view.
Waitresses came by twice in two hours.... If thats service let people order at bar
The venue is nice enough. The mixers are trash and drinks are SO expensive. Does Titos taste like peroxide now? The drink was so bad that I asked for a little cup of OJ just to try it before I ordered a screwdriver. And they charged me $4 for just a little cup of juice. Never had a bar charge for a soda or juice but alright I guess. I about choked when I heard that the bill was $117 before tip for 6 drinks. Never thought the highest tab Ive ever had would be from a place like this, drinking for an hour lol. Anyway, the service has gotten a lot quicker so thats a plus. There have been times where it would take soo long to get your server back over to your table. And really, no straws or napkins? not me stirring my drink with my finger because its so bad and then air drying it only to have sticky hands the whole show. 🙃
So much fun! Drinks were good and great comedy. Totally recommend for a night out.. Be warned dont sit in the front unless you like to be included in the stand up 😅😅 and there is a two item minimum to order before you leave the show.
Drinks were good, tavern food was acceptable, staff were super friendly, and I laughed at quite a few jokes. My only minor complaint is the ticket price combined with 2 item minimum purchase. Not told about the 2 item minimum until you are at the door. Turns your $55 night into a $100 night. The staff more than made up for that though.
Great quaint comedy club hosting a wide array of comics, from well known to less known. Per usual, there is a two item minimum per person for the featured events and they have a decent assorrment of menu items... even an option for vegans! One piece of advice: dont sit in the very front unless you want to be included in the sketch!
Show was really good. Venue and servers were nice. Drinks were maybe the worst Ive ever had and they make you buy 2 of them. My friend and I tried 4 different cocktails and somehow each one was worst than the last.
Our first comedy club experience. This is a relaxed atmosphere with a full bar, food and it looked like the space is set up so there is a good view from every seat. Our server was great. We enjoyed the show and the club.
Best comedy place in town! Great headliners and wonderful atmosphere
Finally went to my first show at the Helium and it was great. Everyone was ready for some laughs and the staff were friendly yet took their jobs seriously and with care. Tables are a tight sit if youre not in the back, but the table side service helped - as did the drinks! The comedians were awesome and I cant wait to see another show sometime.
Most recent trip was to see Gary Owen. Had a blast. Sad the bar seats are gone, sad the food is now so low quality. But the staff is all great and we had such a blast, even though the venue room was fuh-reezing!
Plus 1 star for kitchen improvements, the Mozzarella sticks are now perfection. I would still love to see 1 dollar refills on sodas.
Saw Jeff Alen at the Helium Comedy Club, he was fantastic; as usual. Its great to have a local club that brings-in that level of talent.Great appetizers, the drinks were tasty, and every seat has a good view.
The comics on stage for the Portlands funniest contest were pretty much all really watchable! The staff was lovely! Only problem was that I made the mistake of ordering the chicken and fries and the chicken was not good... It was kind of like a low quality large-ish nugget. Also they were out of the beer I wanted.
My boyfriend and I were seated a tiny 2 person table with 2 strangers. They packed so many people in a such a small space that our chairs were touching. The waitress completely ignored us but then waited on the people around us. I finally was able to get her attention and order, then the food was cold and she never did bring the drinks that we ordered. Terrible service, would not recommend.
Fun, intimate place to go watch some comedy. If your come in a group of 4 you will be packed in but the spaces for 2 are nice. The food is excellent; the pretzel bites were delicious and the Mediterranean platter was okay, and the Buffalo wings were very good. The drinks were as strong as you can get anywhere which was a pleasant surprise. I would gladly go back again.
I was not informed about the 2 item minimum per person in the showroom till at the ticket booth. The waitress stood in front of us when taking orders and ran our card so many times the card locked. She also asked if we were sure we didnt want to tip on the card even though we were trying to get cash out.
The servers are AMAZING. Their timing is immaculate. The prices of food and drinks is a LITTLE high but the economy isn’t great so it’s ok. 10/10 recommend this place.
I went here for the first time to see Adam Conover and not only was the comedians amazing but the staff were amazing too. I am a plus size/ large woman and i was worried that I may be squished in amongst other people or given a seat which would not be comfortable for me size but I was pleasantly surprised when without even having to ask was seated in a half booth with plenty of room AND noticed other people if size and disabilities were given the same. It was no big deal, and it was great to feel as if the staff had been strained what to do but not to make a big thing about it.
Paid extra to reserve a table for my partner and me. When we were seated, we were placed at a tiny table with two other people, one person forced to stare at the back of the others head.Other couples were seated together at their own tables. I asked the manager why we didnt get our own table and he said that was a reserved table and it was just the luck of the draw when you buy tickets.Um... No. If I reserve a table, I want my own table. I paid just as much as the people with their own table. If I have to share a reserved table, then charge me half price or less. This is just greedy practices double charging for the same table.Ultimately the manager was accommodating after I pressed the issue and we got a good table to ourselves. So that saved them from a one-star review. But then theres the two-item minimum per person. I realize the place needs to make money, but do not force me and my partner to purchase two items each. I already forked out plenty of money for a ticket and a table. If we had dinner and drinks elsewhere before or after the show, thats our business and right. If we want to share something, we should be able to do that without having to buy more. Id be more understanding if it was a two item per table minimum, but four for a couple? Nah.I wont be back unless its a major act that I cant miss, and I wont recommend others to subject themselves to such a greedy establishment.
The show was great, the food was good, and the drinks were strong. Im giving 3 stars for the amount of people that were packed into the room. We bought a general admission ticket, so I didnt expect to have a great seat, however, I also didnt expect to be jam packed next to a stranger while my husband had to sit Behind me. This was our date night and literally touching elbows with a stranger (Covid isnt a thing anymore I guess) and barely being about to turn around to talk to my husband while we had our snacks before the show was not enjoyable. We spent $130 in total for tix and to meet the two item minimum. Ive never been to a comedy club that seats like this, and Ive been to many. Maybe the next experience will be better, but it will be hard for me to go back.
Been here for two shows, & the staff are quite lovely. But, the 2 item minimum Per Person is absurd, especially when soda is $4 with no refills, cheapest alcohol is $7, & the cheapest food is waffle fries at $8. & its quite obvious that no money going back into the building, especially with how heavily worn down the carpet is in large areas of the Comedy Club. Its a great venue nonetheless, but unless prices become viable on items, or the 2 item minimum is redone, I dont think Ill be coming back.
Pros: Great Comedians and decent servers.Cons:- They dont actually add any alcohol to your drinks and if they do, its not even a half shot.- They say its a full menu when you buy your tickets but end up only offering the appetizers. Portion size is vefy small for the price.I get it, they dont want people getting super drunk and causing issues during a show, but if that is the case then dont serve alcohol at all. I spent $60 on drinks between myself and my gf and I didnt get even a little buzzed. Felt sober the whole show. The show required purchase of 2 items per ticket. Drink or food. But they didnt offer all the food they had and they didnt give out real drinks. To me.. that isnt worth it at all. Not even to see the comic. I am not trying to sneak alcohol into the show. But I guess Id have to advise everyone to do so. Helium Club will definitely under portion you and take all your money without a care in the world.
The door guy taking tickets had maybe the worst attitude I could imagine for a venue. We had a large group, We had never been there and didnt know how seating worked he was rude on so many levels. The comedy was good. Our server was amazing top notch. I dont think I would go back there. The door guy really ruined the experience and the venue set up is not something I am interested in doing again.
Never a bad time at the Helium, venues are amazing. Love the intimate feel the layout has when watching the comedians!
Saw Pauly Shore on June 2nd. Was a great show. The crowd was disruptive and rude to the comedians. They said at the beginning of the show that hecklers would get the boot. But they didnt do a thing. Nothing. Crickets. It was good to see Pauly but the experience was ruined by hecklers and the staff not doing what they said theyd do.
Had a great time seeing Chris Porter. We also really liked the openers. Good and drinks were ok. The spicy rita should be called the salty rita. Would like to return soon
Sean a half dozen shows so far. All acts and serive have been top notch
Great show, good friendly staff. Can see the performer from pretty much every table. Tables are a little closer together than I expected, considering we *are* still in a pandemic. Also, the food is overpriced. Either charge a fair price for stuff youre literally just heating up, or serve gourmet restaurant quality food worthy of the price.
We had a blast!!! Great date night. Our first time here. The wait staff does a great job getting your food and drinks quickly. Also the entrance policies were clear and orderly. We will be back for sure!
Helium was such an amazing experience! Not only was the performer great but the staff was incredible! So kind and courteous and such good service overall. The venue itself felt so close and intimate - you feel so close to the performers. It makes it easy to get lost in the moment and just really get immersed in your time there. Definitely will be going back again!!
Management and the people working the club look to be in a fight. The manager made a spiritual booking for my show. I also purchased a ticket so I can watch the other comedians. I I did a pre-reading for the booking. The waitress was disruptive because she claimed a two-item minimum. It wasnt mentioned on the $5 ticket. The first three comedians cursed during the entire act. Content is poor. I am a white saint 5 star general.
Pretty good place to catch your favorite comedians. It can get pretty packed during sold out shows, so be prepared to be sat with other folks at your table. Service is fast and cordeal. Though Im not a fan of the payment system. Holding a tablet in front of you, staring at you, as you decide how much to tip, is kinda rude. Though I understand the need to clear out rooms, clear out tabs, and shuffle people out, to prep for the next show.
The vibe was amazing. Table service for the price of two items (drinks or food, doesnt have to be alcohol) was really nice and super helpful. A bit crowded for a sold out but nothing the laughs couldnt fix. Would go again. The sign is not very big, so look for the bike shop if you cant find it. (the logo is a bit outdated, but doesnt hurt the review b/c I am not heartless)
Had a great time tonight! The show was spectacular and the service was amazing! The staff is super friendly, and the kitchen service was faster than I expected!
Our show and the vibe of Helium was great. The food and food options leave quite a bit to desire. They only had a few options for food. The Mediterranean platter was what both my partner and I wanted to order however it coincidentally was the only food item on the menu that they were apparently fresh out of for the first show on a Saturday night... Service was still pretty good but we had to go find food after the show. I recommend eating well somewhere else before you come to a show at Helium!
My husband I go here regularly for date nights and its always a fun experience. Expectations are clearly communicated and we eat, drink and laugh..
Attended my first comedy show at Helium. The ticket staff was already having us laughing at the door! Seating and serving staff was attentive. Comedians were hilarious. Food was a tad expensive, so maybe stick to getting drinks to cover your 2-item minimum.
The only bad part is getting there... Portlands overpass system is super confusing
Somewhat disorganized but we had good seats. I see people posting about the drink/food minimums in addition to the ticket but I dont see the problem. They clearly state this in their terms of purchase. Drinks and food were good. The set was nice. I also see people posting about getting asked to leave. I kind of wished that happened at our show as there were a lot of people just trying to have conversations while acts were on. And not in a hush kind of voice but loud enough as if they were competing with the comedian. I would definitely go again, though.
I attended a sold out show. The venue was great and the staff was very nice. I was not impressed by the food at all. $18 for 3 sliders, the meat was room temperature and the buns seemed like they had been refrigerated. My husband got the chicken tenders and said they tasted good but were also cold. I know they were really busy, but it just felt over priced for the quality of food we received.
It is a great club that brings great comics for a fulfilling atmosphere. Tickets are fairly priced, the staff is great, only the complaint is the drink prices, but its probably on par with other clubs pricing.
The place is pretty well set up. Decent prices on food and bar. But given that this is a comedy club and they dont kick out constant talkers (even though they say they will) ruins the experience. I spent the entire evening listening to the comedians with a background noise of people chatting at their tables. Given the number of servers roaming the room taking orders, theres no reason that couldnt have been handled.
I couldnt get any photos inside due to the no cell phone rule. This was my first time ever going to a comedy club so Im not sure if other places squish in so many people compared to this one. Our party of seven only had two very small tables to share. The food we ordered during the show was very Good: waffle fries, mozzerala sticks and pretzel bites. The waitor told us that we had to order a minimum of two menu items per table. The two local openers were decent but didnt make me laugh too much. The headliner Ryan long gave a nice show.
Love this Club!Seen amazing comics here, the management always brings amazing comic and fantastic acts. A safe and socially distance venue! The staff has always been so awesome and the service is fast and on point 👌This club is the perfect place for date night, a night out with friends, and a damn good time on an open mic night if you wanna try your luck. Love this venue. 10 outta 10 would recommend ✌
Saw Josh Blue at helium it was a fantastic show but just so you know it is a 2 item minimum order when you are seated so dont get drinks at the bar wait until you are seated.
Great club on the east side, in a laid back neighborhood. Nice to be able to catch big stand up names at local spot that’s easily accessible. Very cool venue for comedy shows! Small, with limited seating tables, but that makes anywhere, in the room, a good spot. Gets a bit crowded, so if you want a table, if I recall, you’ll want to reserve, in advance?
Amazing place, stellar staff. I am exceedingly grateful to the attentive employees in the lounge who were extremely helpful to me when my husband had a medical issue. I cant thank them enough for attending to us, getting water and a cool cloth for him, and checking on us often to make sure we were okay. I would give a six star rating if I could.
Overall pretty good place. We have been several times and a couple times we did not get a good vibe from our server or it would be 5 stars. Still the best spot in Portland to catch a stand up show
Had my vehicle broken into this evening during the 7pm show. I was less than 1 block from the front doors. Maybe Helium could hire security for a small radius since no designated parking is available. Will definitely make me reconsider coming back. Otherwise Ive always loved the place and Dave Attell crushed, as expected.
Portlands best (and pretty much only - looking at you Harveys) comedy venue. Tickets prices are reasonable, but remember theres a minimum drink order after seating and a bottle of beer will run you $8. Historical the food is serviceable, but dont set your expectations high if youre a foodie. They PACK! it like its a city bus and all your bus experience applies: you might be cold, you might be hot, you might not know the people at your shared table, someones knee might be touching your knee, etc. The staff is efficient and Ive never had a bad experience. Lots of gripes and opportunities for improvement, but well suffer for the laughs and they know that.
They only get three stars for the acts. The absurd Disneyland length line to get in lame. And the food/drinks are as low quality as they can possibly get away with. But you’re forced to buy two items!Try harder guys.
Great first experience here at The Helium. We came to watch Noel Miller, his show was awesome as usual, even had a great head liner! The comedy club itself was very clean, drinks were great and my pork sliders were just as delicious! I have to commend the amazing staff for their efficiency in keeping the line moving and seating such a large crowd with a literally packed house, they were also very kind and super helpful in keeping us informed, food and drinks were served quickly and our large party of six all had a really good time! I will definitely be back and will recommend anyone to see a show here :)
Had a great experience at the club. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Food was very good though I wish they still had their old selection, limited choices. Building was clean and the drinks were good. We had Joe as a server and he was awesome.
Great club for comedy. Buy tickets online. On a $20 ticket (as shown online) I was charged $5.99 for service fee and taxes when buying in-person at the box office. When I asked what taxes are included, he said in other cities there is tax, but here its cheaper (!?!) Not sure how you can advertise a $20 ticket when there is no way to pay $20 for it. Online the service fee was $6.75 so pay the 80 cents and save yourself the headache of dealing with a snarky box office attendant.
Amazing venue. Very intimate saw an amazing show. My cheeks hurt so bad from laughing. They have a two drink minimum which fine. But my spouse and I dont drink and the non alcoholic drink selection was weak. Great place to see some comedy other than that.
Comedy Club atmosphere, tiered seating, great view from wherever you sat. Good job to whomever came up with the layout of the tables. Staff was super friendly, professional and helpful. Food was okay, pub style fare and definitely not made fresh, everything was heated up and had been frozen. Overall, they bring in good acts and it was worth the visit.
Strong and deep pool of talent. Great to see beginners doing sets as well as very talented veteran performers. And it was all entertaining. Minimum food order required.
Fun environment for national comedy acts. Good wait staff service, food options are good enough to enjoy while taking in the show. Decent beer selection.
Staff was nice. One of my drinks was watered down which wasn’t a big deal for me. My other two drinks were fine. Other than that we had a good first time experience at the Helium Comedy Club. Will come back again.
I dont even want to leave Helium 1 star due to my horrible experience with their extremely rude staff. They acted as if entering was like going through a line at Customs at the airport. Their attitude was anything but inviting and came off arrogant and not as I would think a comedy club would want to portray themselves. I spent my hard earned money, time and effort to drive to downtown Portland which is not the safest or easiest location for Parking or comfort level just to be treated like a unwelcome guest whom should be glad to be there. Heliums seating is chaotic, over packed and not organized. The individual seating everyone was rude, bias and a control freak. We got there early for good seat selection and we were moved immediately to the worst table in the back and finally right before the performance we attempted to move tables due to one still being open and he literary physically took our drinks and moved us back to the bad table as the good one sat empty for the performance. RUDE! The waitstaff ALL have chips on their shoulders like they are doing us a favor by even being there. The food is gross and the drinks over priced and frankly I walked out mid show. I WILL NEVER GO BACK and I PLAN ON TELLING ALL MY FRIENDS THE SAME! Hire a new crew Helium or tell the present crew to take a chill pill and inform them they work at a comedy club and everyone going there is going there for laughs and not to feel hassled and treated like garbage!
All the comics were funny and I probably spent more money then I should have.....but the one thing that stood out the most was the wait staff once you get into the venue. They worked so efficient and were very nice, offering suggestions. The food was great and came quickly and I never ran out of drinks. The placed was packed and these guys never missed a beat!Honestly, others can learn.....the staff made it a great night as well as the cooks and backstage staff!
This is a really nice venue! Big enough to feel nice and small enough to still feel intimate. They have a waiting room/lounge where you can get food and drinks before the show with good atmosphere and comfortable seating. The venue itself has small reserved tables on a lower level near the stage and row seating behind that slightly elevated. The servers were friendly And efficient and all around it was a great experience. They even have an elevator so if you have trouble getting up stairs you can still access the show!
Not much to look at from the outside, but indoors was reasonably decent. Not a large venue which was nice. Had a table up front and center for Carlos Mencia which was great. All employees were friendly and the wait staff was prompt while being very discreet during the show. The only things I felt that would have made the night more enjoyable would be a little more comfortable chairs, the hard wood chairs like an old diner got to be a little unpleasant after 2+ hours of the show and a little larger drinks, the 6oz plastic cup for my Jack & Coke was a bit much at $12. Overall I had a great time and will most likely return in the future.
This place is great! Sometimes the seats suck, esp if youre sat behind someone tall, but thats any show when youre a shortie, amirite? The food is fine, Id recommend eating somewhere else first though. Not that the food is awful, theres just nothing on the menu that will help you avoid late night heartburn lol. They typically have great acts come through and even on the rare occasion the act sucks, its still a good experience, esp if they have a local opener. I also really appreciated the door guy because he didnt put up with the pretty girls trying to cut in front of everyone. He sent their over-dressed butts to the back of the line. I enjoyed watching them sulk and pout aalll the way back to where they started, to shiver in the cold with the rest of us 😂 and you know they didnt bring a coat. Schadenfreude at its best.
Great place to see comedy. Small intimate theater, that makes every seat in the house a good one. I recommend getting reserved seats, you can skip the line that way.
My daughter bought us all tickets to go to Helium. Having never been there, I read the reviews here on Yelp. There were so many complaints about this venue, service, and food that I tried to back out as this place sounded terrible. She said she had been there many times and always enjoyed her experience, so I must go.We waited for the earlier show crowd to leave and then we were ushered to our table. Menus were already there and when most people were settled we were approached by a very nice smiling hostess who asked if we had made our selections yet. We had and ordered our desserts and drinks as we had dinner elsewhere. Our choices were served in a short time and after the first two very funny acts she came by again to see if all was OK. We got more drinks and before the headliner was done we paid our bill in cash. She was very thoughtful, all the servers were polite and not overly attentive, the drinks were fine, dessert was good, and the general ambiance was good. The venue is upstairs but they do have an elevator. There are plenty of clean bathrooms. There is a foyer with a bar to wait in before the seating in the theater starts. The before show drinks served in there do not count towards the 2 item minimum you have to order in the theater. There is on street parking in the surrounding neighborhood. This venue is not as large or fancy as many of the older comedy clubs in NYC, LA, or SF, but it fits within the Portland minimalism theme quite well.A good time was had by all.
Food isn’t great (recommend the pretzel bites since you have to order something) & the sound of the scanners get annoying, but good atmosphere & nice staff. Recommend bringing concert earplugs because the speakers are really loud
