Great vibes and an excellent happy hour from 5-7pm. All of the cocktails were delicious and very affordable. The grilled cheese and tomato soup combo were great on a gloomy day, with the soup being slightly on the salty side, but still a great dish.Inside is pretty dark, but the back patio was a nice space to hang out while still light out.
Really quite good!! The drink I had was real pretty and tasted great, bartenders and servers were very sweet and accommodating. Don’t order pistachios though. Our poor server brought me meatballs twice instead and looked perplexed by my response that I ordered pistachios. Haven’t quite figured if they actually serve pistachios or if it’s some kind of sleeper cell activation code they keep on the menu for emergencies. Did get a refund for it though! Delightfully confusing. 10/10 experience.
This is the go to place for cheap drinks, amazing service & excellent vibes. Its so queer & gay friendly, plus the cocktails are on point with bartenders who can hang with any order & food that will curb your hunger anytime.Outdoor patio is decent but 🤢it allows for smoking which really kills the vibes. This is the perfect first date spot or a date night in the PDX, happy hour or not these fantastic humans will take care of you. 🌈Let Ben, Lexi or Andrew take care of you are this local watering hole this cuter than any of the expensive tiktok videos that sent you somewhere else 😉
The atmosphere is awesome, great place for a date night! We used the photo booth which was the cheapest Ive ever seen, I think only $3 and the photos get digitally sent to your phone, very good quality pics!!Happy hour is great, $3 drinks and half off bottles of wine! The service was great! I really wanted to try some of their awesome and cheap happy hour food but we already had dinner plans. Id definitely go back to this spot!
One of the most popular HH places in SE Portland and for very good reason! The $4 drinks and eats are delicious and consistent! Go for the grilled cheese if you’re on the hungrier side, it’s filling and very delicious.Since they are well known, ordering can take a while as it stays solidly busy so I’d recommend ordering everything you want all at once to avoid waiting to order everytime.Great place for a small group of friends/co-workers hang out, although they only allow service animals on their patio. Small patio, but plenty of indoor space.
Wish I could give Aalto six stars. It is our favorite, favorite HH place in Portland. It’s a delicious and cheap dinner with drinks. We usually get there right at 5 and grab a coffee next door at Stumptown if they’re not quite open. $3 food and drinks (including the pictured grilled cheese w/tomato soup). Awesome patio with both smoking and non-smoking sections. Get there early because it fills up quickly and food orders can get backed up.
Great music, plenty of comfortable seating. Always delicious mocktails as well as alcoholic beverages.
The best place in Portland for Happy hour cocktails and snacks. I cant say enough how amazing the staff, drinks and food are here. They have the best happy hour in Portland and there is a smoking patio out back! There are the best bartenders here and they also make such delicious food at such a reasonable price. This is a must try in Portland for cocktails!
The best grilled cheese and best espresso martini. Also 5 stars for hosting the boy Tony laboy
What a place! We had such a great time sampling all the delicious happy hour food and drinks!! The happy hour grilled cheese and tomato soup was hands down our favorite but the finger foods were a great add on snack for everyone. We also loved the Jell-O shots! They are on a whole other level and taste nothing like the ones you had when you were in college. We felt very relaxed in the lounge and were really happy that we could all sit down. Will definitely be back!!
Cocktails are $12-15/ drink. This is a cozy place (albeit loud-did the music have to be up that high?). When it got hot they opened the back from the smoking patio and the smell of cigarettes took over the place. If they never did that again Id be happy, but the cool air was welcome.Still, Ill be back. This place impressed me.
Today, my friends and I went to Aalto for their happy hour since they have really good drinks. Unfortunately, we had a very unpleasant experience. My friend was not allowed to order after she showed her OPT card, (she’s living here on a work visa). The bartender, asked for an American ID or passport when her ID is clearly valid and accepted everywhere else. We wonder if this incident was racially motivated. Let’s just say, I won’t be back here ever again!
Creative cocktails and they have a GREAT happy hour. The place is small, so you have to get there early if you want a table, but the flow was constant so I imagine the wait isnt too bad. Definitely worth at least one visit.
Lovely place with good prices and a killer happy hour. Except for first Friday of the month, its not very loud. Romantic date place.
Cute little spot with a romantic back room and very trendy back patio (unfortunately, it is a smoking area). Very good happy hour prices ($4) with a limited selection of drinks - I tell you I was SHOCKED at how delicious the bourbon cocktail was, tasted like a jolly rancher. Have not yet had dinner here.
One of the best happy hours (5-7pm) in town! $4 drink and food specials! Back patio for smokers or people looking for fresh air, an expanded indoor area for anyone looking for a dark place to hang out, and a classy well lit bar area.
This bar is cute but they don’t care about their patrons. They care more about making money. This bar has two entrance doors, and the outer door was broken, and every time someone came in, the door would swing and stay open, blowing in cold air. The manager/bartender on duty, Andrew refused to keep the inner door closed because the bar needed to advertise that they were in fact open, at the expense of their current patrons being comfortable. It’s 45 degrees Fahrenheit outside. We were constantly getting up to close the door so we weren’t freezing trying to enjoy ourselves. We were here to celebrate a birthday. Our mistake. Definitely not returning. Thanks
I’ve been coming to Aalto for at least 7 years now and I always love it. The happy hour is one of my favorites in all of Portland, it can’t be beat. The bartenders are all so great and accommodating. Even when they’re busy their attitudes are always great and they take their time to make sure everyone is happy. Aalto itself is such a cozy atmosphere with the low lighting and lounge seating towards the back. They also have a great outdoor area to sit in if you’re a smoker or need some fresh air. There’s a great photo booth as well. Best tomato soup and grilled cheese! Getting excited to go back for exactly that! They also only allow vaccinated individuals to come inside, thank you Aalto!
Great happy hour. Cute place.
Didnt eat but good patio, good drinks, fun stop.
They have the best happy hour. Their grilled cheese and tomato soup is so good ($3 during happy hour), its probably the best tomato soup Ive ever had and the bread they use for the grilled cheese is top notch. Their cocktails are decently priced too ($3 during happy hour too) I liked the dandy. The atmosphere is awesome with a long bar so you dont have to wait in typical awkward Portland bar lines instead you can wrap around the bar like a regular human orders. The bartenders are chill and they play good music. The patio is pretty sweet considering it is a small place.
Server our recent visit had a tone of impatience and forced niceness, but have always loved this place otherwise, good cocktails, nice setting and ambiance, good grilled cheese & tomato bisque and macaroni meals, especially good deals for the $3 happy hour option!
One of my fav bars in Portland for Happy Hour. The bartenders are great and you really cannot beat these prices. The grilled cheese and tomato soup is such a deal -as are the HH cocktails.
Great for a happy hour outing - $3 drinks and pretty good food. The place fills up quick and is usually busy when I get there, but service is still on point, as long as youre visible and have a bit of patience - theyve got a lot to do. Been a few times now and its one of my go-to spots when friends are visiting or I want a good, cheap drink in a busy but relaxed environment
Amazing happy hour!!! The drinks included in their happy hour arent just boring well drinks, they are actually delicious and unique. They also have happy hour appetizers. The bar is really cool, there is even a more private lounging area behind the bar, with an ordering window back there. Very cool.
Rad bar! Great people/staff. Fantastic drinks. A wonderful chill place to have a drink without feeling overwhelmed or crowded. Highly recommend! ❤️
Great service, great music on Fridays thanks to DJ Tony Laboy
I second the music being too loud, but its honestly worth it for the happy hour. They have a lot of seating but it can still get a little cramped during happy hour when its cold out - that being said, its never felt too congested in the summer because they have a sizable patio. $2 grilled cheese and tomato soup is super tasty, and the $10 bottle of wine and $2 cocktails cant be beat (5-7pm daily!)
Hosted a surprise birthday party here and it was a great experience! DJ was great, back room was the perfect space for about 30 guests, and everyone enjoyed the cocktails. Theres a fun photo booth as well ($3 and itll text photos to your phone). Theyve got a great happy hour with some $3 cocktails (!!!) and delicious snacks/food on the menu (grilled cheese and the artichoke dip especially)
One of my favorite bars. Really good cocktails, good food on happy hour. Love the ambiance, inside and outside.
I hate to give away this secret, but its the best happy hour in town. 2$ grilled cheese, on real homemade bread and chunky tomato soup cup. but a drink too as the 3 listed for happy hour are all artisan and amazing! tip super well cuz its insane they even treat us this great!they totally cater to being a neighborhood bar which I like. hay friendly and a queer event every someday based on a schedule. look it up on their website.they also have a great not super expensive photo booth!
Two words: grilled cheese! It was very delicious and came with an equally delicious cup of tomato soup. It all tasted homemade and fresh! And the happy hour prices are epic so I highly recommend visiting during those hours. As far as parking, its always close by in the neighboring streets.
You cannot beat the happy hour! You have to be bold to get the bartenders attention at times, but they certainly try their best to serve everyone. The crowd was chill, but the music is WAY too loud for a lounge vibe.
One of my favorite little bars for after work drinks. Super cheap happy hour with minimal options but Im never disappointed. The grilled cheese/ tomato soup is delicious. Great cocktails, awesome ambiance.
Sooooo.. my hubby and I are trying to get out a bit more and decided to do happy hour last Friday. Although this place has very few food options on the menu their happy hour drinks are amazing. We tried and slow burn and let me tell you it was amazing! Location was great with many eateries near by but parking was minimal.
Love Aalto Lounge. The vibe is great on slower evenings It is perfect for a date night or intimate meeting. Always a diverse crowd. Drinks are well made.
Everyone has already said this, the happy hour deals are phenomenal. Its nice that there are spots in Portland that are so affordable. However, if you tell me that a mocktail costs MORE than your cocktail, I am going to be perplexed by that. Regardless of if you have to spend 20 seconds making a mocktail because the cocktails are already pre-mixed, it does not warrant such an upcharge on the drink and honestly makes me unlikely to return. It was my first time because Id always wanted to check this place out because of said happy hour. I did get the grilled cheese and tomato soup which was tasty. I think the industry as a whole struggles to offer decent mocktails for folks who dont/cant drink. I want to return, but I want it to be fair.Dont misunderstand me, the servers were very kind and the space had a nice night life ambiance, but I hope that you might consider adding mocktails to the happy hour or NOT charging your customers more for a drink that has no alcohol in it.
God this place is excellent. Before last night I hadnt been in several years and I dont know why I had forgotten about it. I was perusing their website recently trying to decide on if it might be a good spot to meet some friends for casual birthday drinks with my husband and a group of our close friends, and noticed they had a gmail account listed on their website. I reached out to see if they might have space for us during happy hour and received a swift reply which stated they would absolutely reserve us a spot. Reservations during happy hour?? Rare indeed. So then last night when we (rudely) arrived an hour of when I had said we were going to be there in my email, they were already set up for us and the bar staff welcomed us enthusiastically even though (also super rudely) our entire group was not yet present. We proceeded to have an incredible night mostly because the service was incredible and the drinks were delicious. We were paying happy hour prices but definitely not receiving the typical rushed disaffected happy hour service typical of some other southeast bars. It was dope. Then I had to return tonight because I was under the mistaken impression that my husband had left his card at the bar. The bartender that was on went out of her way to check in with the bar staff from the lastnight even after looking in the main areas where they keep cards and not finding it. With the help of their hard work I was able to finally realize that It had been in my own wallet the entire time. Oops. At least I got to have another happy hour drink. This place is excellent. I would love to know if their bar staff goes through some sort of like required supreme kindness and friendliness training because they are just the cutest and nicest. Ill definitely be back as often as theyll have me!
A fantastic happy hour of $3 cocktails (watered down as they might be) and tasty appetizers. This place has a comfy outdoor section that is smoker-friendly. The lounge area is quite dark. It made it a bit hard for me and poc friends to see each other. But a fun place in SE.
Bars in portland come and go, but Aalto lounge and their happy hour stay consistent. The back patio is the first on my list when that first sunny spring portland day arrives.
Best hidden happy hour gem. loves this spot on the East Side, perfect place to grab $3 drinks and food (belmont jewel + grilled cheese) after work with friends. inside can be a little dark, patio is usually pretty full, but overall ambiance and service is wonderful.
Happy Hour prices are tough to beat, very affordable. Theres a nice little lounge around the corner of the bar as well as a back patio thats really lovely. Music was a little loud but we still had a good time!
I like the happy hour here, its a great deal, but it is very limited! There atmosphere is good, and it has a nice mid century modern decor. Great little patio out back.
Went to Aalto Lounge with a friend yesterday for the first time. It was pretty cool. Its a much larger space than it at first appears, with a room with bench seating and high ceilings tucked away in the back.I didnt feel like drinking on a school night, so I had a bitters and soda and ordered the vegan carrot Rueben sandwich. The sandwich was delicious and Im not even vegan! Id definitely order it again. The drink was mixed well, also. There was a couple sitting next to us making out, which was pretty uncomfortable. And the server who brought my food was very gruff, but other than that, it was a good experience and Id go back.
My go to for Portland Happy Hour these days! For $9 you can get two drinks, grilled cheese and tomato soup! The bar tenders are actually attentive as well! Done!
There are very few happy hours left in this city that deserve the title, and Aalto is one.Grab a $10 bottle of wine and sneak back to their secret garden of a patio. At that price you wont even feel guilty ordering the full price chocolate dessert (oh, and its only $6). Dont stop there though, the cheese plate... is an absolute must.Bring your bff or make some new ones, this is a must go to.
It is my absolute favorite happy hour. The place is dimly lit, so dont take a book. But the seating is eclectic and warm. Great for a single person or for a small group
Been to Aalto a few times and I still cant figure out the coffee shop entrance. They have good happy hour specials. The food is really good (grilled cheese and soup is delicious). A fun place to reconnect with friends.
Best happy hour deal in town. Sam and Andrew are awesome old school bartenders who treat you like a regular on your first visit. Intimate and smoker friendly.
Worst place ever. Food is gross and bartenders are jerks. Pretentious hipsters who think they are cooler than everyone in the bar. What a joke. The space is shared with a coffee shop which just screams Im Portland cool. However, there is a no cool in this place only rude people who think they are better than everyone else.
This is one of my favorite spots on SE Belmont street. It has a slightly swanky vibe to it but not too much. I guess you can say its a tasteful hip vibe. Maybe its just me but sometimes it seems a little too dark inside. Theres a small patio in the back and some comfortable seating in the back closer to the bar.
Theyve got $4 happy hour specials with drinks and food. A nice little patio in the back to hang out and an overpriced virtual photo booth
Such a rad bar. Its perfectly dark, well-designed, and has the best happy hour in town. The patio is really nice, the food is great, and its never too crowded.
Amazing cocktails! Altos the best in town! Also the grilled cheese and tomato soup is so yummy.
Great drinks, patio and back room.Anna is a friendly bartender 😎
Please note: I work here.In spite of some inevitable bias, Im going to state facts that would be difficult for anyone to dispute.Aalto is the classy craft cocktail option in the bar-saturated 3300 block of SE Belmont. Its candlelit lounge bridges the gap between the lively cocktail bar and the chic minimalist patio (note: smoking allowed, dogs are not.) DJs spin 3-5 nights a week and are stationed front and center, within the bar itself. The cocktails are affordable (nothing over $10), carefully crafted, and served up by a seasoned and knowledgeable group of bartenders. The Old Fashioned is superb, as is the Scorpion Mezcal version. Seasonal offerings are served up every several months, and are collaborative creations of some talented folks with decades of drink mixing experience. With the cold weather coming, get ready for toddy time (made with house-spiced honey!)There are also a few $3 cocktails available on the daily happy hour, which runs from 5-7. The Dandy is herby and earthy and sweet with house-made lavender syrup and cucumber infused gin; the Belmont Jewel is a neighbourhood favourite with whiskey and a house-made grenadine; the Slow Burn adds a pleasant spice with serrano infused vodka and pineapple juice, shaken and served up.Also available on the daily $3 happy hour are a few light meals, including the legendary (seriously, Im not just saying that) grilled cheese & tomato soup combo. Outside of happy hour, food offerings include little bites (almonds, olives, pistachios) and small hot meals (croissant sandwiches, artichoke dip). Nothing costs over $8.The space itself is tastefully decorated with locally produced art, wood paneling, leather top bar stools, and lounge chairs. Aalto Lounge is named for Finnish designer Alvar Aalto, and the bar gives a nice hint of Scandinavian chic while maintaining a distinctly Pacific Northwest flair. The David Lynchian photo booth is a Portland favourite. So is the minimalist patio with the stained wood bench seating and low-set cylindrical concrete tables. The most impressive thing about Aalto is that it manages to deliver a classy atmosphere, perfect for dates or an intimate group get-together, without the addition of swollen prices or ego. Everything is reasonably priced in comparison to other area cocktail bars, and you dont receive snobbery with your drink. All are welcome, granted that youre well mannered and appropriately tipping!.... (Seriously be nice and tip your bartenders. Its hard work!)
Very laid back relaxed lounge. I visited on NYE and the photo booth was free. Great drinks and bartenders
BEST HAPPY HOUR EVER. Love the wine bottle deal. Amazing grilled cheese. Good cocktails too. Aalto will be a frequented location for sure.
Aalto Lounge has one of the best happy hours in Portland. Food and Drinks for $3 each. Doesnt get better than that for cheap happy hour with a great vibe.
Very rude! wasnt busy enough to be standing for 20min for a can of beer. If your a woman dont get served anything by the short dark hair bartender cause youll be treated like dirt! The Bartenders really need to learn how to be proper to all genders!
They have the best happy hour menu (5-7pm) in compare to most places and really good services. Very chillax and causal lounge. Highly recommended
Good cocktails and nice atmosphere. We went during happy hour and prices are really good, the grilled cheese with tomato soup was pretty amazing
This place had such a nice atmosphere I would love to bring a date here. Great drinks with a knowledgeable staff and incredible lighting. I’ve only been once but I left highly impressed.
Happy hour prices are excellent and the drinks are quite good. The vibe is casual but nice, a great after work drink spot or place to go with friends!
Worst service! The lady bartender charged my friend 2 times because she forgot her food order. Also I said I was only ordering food and same lady... Shocker... she sighed and said maybe shell take my order in a few. I then went to the nice looking gentleman after 10 mins and he never greeted me and made no attempt to get my order. I proceeded to leave. Seriously go to Circa 33!
This place is 70s retro- modern fancy! Seriously interesting atmosphere and a nice patio in back was a suprise. Cocktails are fair priced and awesome!
Really good happy hour food. The ambiance is extremely dark and extremely loud, but I think thats what theyre going for. I recommend the grilled cheese/tomato soup.
The happy hour is amazing! Its very dark, fun, and cozy. You cant beat a delicious $3 cocktail.
Amazing cocktails at a great price, plus you can never pass up the grilled cheese with soup! Perfect seating, plus great bartenders!
Love this place! Good vibes and environment and the patio outside is lovely. Happy hour prices are ridiculous and one of the best in the city.
The Aalto is tucked in on the short, but sweet entertainment block on Belmont. Its a solid bar, nothing special about it, but it does make a good stop if you want to do a pub crawl.Drinks are poured well, prices are reasonable, and the crowd is not so hipster you feel you need to put a bird on it.
We enjoyed a few drinks before going to the comedy in the park.Good times!
Really cool cocktail bar. We didnt get any food but I saved a few different drinks and they were all great!
Such a good happy hour! $3 drinks and food. They also have a great atmosphere!
Is a very nice place to go and hang with friends. They also have happy hour with $3 drinks. Recommend visiting.
Romantic vibe and great happy hour
Happy hour is fantastic! Creative cocktails and tasty food. Happy hour prices are unbeatable!!!
A classic Portland bar with a very cheap happy hour and friendly staff. It’s very loud inside. They have a back patio with concrete seating.
A clean bar in Portland, who knew. Cheap snacks and great drinks and polite service. Ive been here a few times and Ill keep coming back.
Whine whine whine hipsters whine. But yeah, dont really get this place. The drinks are not made too well, just boring and a bit overpriced. Also I know cool bars are supposed to be dark but this place is ridiculous. Singles beware!
Small place, but if you reserve a spot for a big party, its the perfect place. Great drinks, incredible food!
My favorite bar! Lovely staff and great food & drinks for an amazing price!
Best happy hour ever! $3 food and drinks and they dont skimp on quality either!
Cozy environment with great customer service. Clean bathroom with ample seating. Got our drinks fast and bartender was very personable.
Great happy hour. Probably the best tasting and least expensive happy hour drink menu in town.
Best happy hour deals in town! Love the lounge and the indoor ambiance. Highly recommend this place!
As most will say, happy hour is exceptional, otherwise its a good bar to visit.
Great happy hour, exquisite cocktails, and an awesome food menu.
Really tasting drinks, friendly bartenders, comfy seats, and lovely lighting. Definitely go to this bar when you get a chance.
Good atmosphere, 3 dollar happy hour from 3pm to 7pm. Pretzel with cheese is the way to go.

Great little spot for a date night!!! Cool music friendly bartenders...
