Great spot for Mexican fare in a place with an updated, modern vibe. The food is a good, solid example of most of your basic Mexican fare. This is somewhat like an upscale taqueria where you order at the counter and then they bring your food to you. I ordered the Fajita plate with black beans. It was very good, not too greasy, and tasted fresh. The tortillas were hot and delicious. We had a group of five and our orders came out promptly, within about 10 min or less of ordering. We also had to leave earlier than expected and were able to get to-go boxes quickly and get out of there without a hassle, given the unexpected nature of our early departure.Overall, a fun venue with delicious food if youre feeling like some Mexican eats.
I walked in wondering why it was dead, I left understanding. The food was reasonably flavorful and shows the potential for this location. But between difficulties ordering steak and them putting ground beef, my receipt mentioning salsa I never got with my chips and the fact the chips and cheese were microwaved to a solid mass I cant give more than 3 stars.Especially at over $25 per person. Also this seating area is as cold as the Arctic.
My friends decided to Willie’s on Friday night for Bachata lesson and dancing. We had so much fun and the live music really added to the atmosphere. The lesson started around 9:30pm and the live music went on for two hours after. The cover was $15 but it was well worth it.
This review isn’t meant to be silly. The drinks at this place…damn. I’m not a youngster. I’ve been drinking for a minute. I don’t usuallyGet buzzed from a single drink but holy hell. I think the tacos are good, but your guess is as good as mine. Jackie’s margaritas- Thank me later.
I walked by this place a few times and decided to try it tonight. I was pretty bummed out. Beer tasted flat. They got 2 of our three orders wrong. Two orders were taco plates for $16. They brought one taco each. When we brought this up, our server seemed confused. Went back in and looked at the recipe, and they tried to fix it. Sent the plates back out with rice and beans and one taco per plate (its supposed to be two per plate). If it was busy, I would understand some mis ups, but it was dead. Cool little spot on the corner. Really wish it was better.
Friends and I always end up here even on the slow nights and have a great time for the dance hours. Not sure there is anything to brag about other then the lack of complaints I have. Crowds are minimal, people are respectful, just an environment I always get a fun workout in. Cant speak to the food as Ive never tried it.
Love! Love! Loved! That they had a play area for children. It was a little table they could play on with a cubby system of their toys neatly organized in clear bins. The burrito I ordered was delicious. I really enjoyed this place.
Just ordered Uber eats from here DO NOT ORDER from this place. Ordered nachos and received a box of chips with a small serving of barely any toppings. Had so many left over chips I ended up pulling out dip from my fridge to finish them. So disappointed for spending 30$ to open a box of straight up chips with barely any toppings. 👎🏽
Cute place, expensive for what you get though. Serving sizes are definitely on the small side. I think a lot of people come here for the karaoke and the theme (which is cool and fun). Food is decently good, again just not really worth the cost
Aztec Willies is a pretty good Mexican restaurant. The food is made fresh, on the spot which can take a bit, but you know its fresh and hot. The portions are large, and the flavors are great. Nice establishment with plenty of seating, indoor or out. Large bar with big screen TVS for all the games. Nice place
I am writing to share some exciting news about a fantastic venue that transforms and accommodates passionate salsa, merengue, and other style dancers every Saturday night. This place is a haven for dance enthusiasts, providing a vibrant and energetic atmosphere that brings joy to everyone who steps onto the dance floor.Every Saturday at 9:30 PM, they offer salsa classes that cater to dancers of all skill levels. These classes are a perfect opportunity to learn new moves, refine techniques, and meet fellow dance lovers.Following the classes, the place just explodes in rhythm and style. The dance floor comes alive with the sounds of salsa, merengue, and more, creating an unforgettable experience filled with music, movement, and celebration. If you’re looking for a place to immerse yourself in the world of dance and connect with a passionate community, this is the spot for you.
We tried a burrito, which comes with rice and beans. We also had a margarita. The drink was good, and the dancing was awesome. We purposely went to Aztecs for bachata classes and social dancing. Great dancers are found in this place. People are super friendly. Food, ehhhh, not good at all. At least what we tried. A must for social dancing 💃
Servers were great. We ordered at the counter and grabbed a seat outside. Food came out timely and looked & smelled great. The portions were a good size. My friend got tacos and I got the chimichanga. I could only eat half but it was still delicious when I heated it up the next day. Parking can be a little tricky.
It is and always was the perfect place to get a delicious meal, they are open later, salsa dancing on the weekend and now live music every Sunday from 6-8 for the whole family. Check their calendar. Viva Aztec!!!
This place is coming back to life with the new ownership! The ceviche is still the best in town, the nachos are well loved, and the margaritas are great...I particularly love the drink Pasion de Argentina a tequila, jalapeño, cilantro, and passion fruit concoction that you WILL want seconds (and thirds!) of. They are adding a whole schedule of live music plus the salsa dancing theyre known for. Its good to see a landmark restaurant get a new burst of energy!
Some friends invited me to go with them to dance 💃 on Saturday night but I cant so having never been here decided to check it out during the day... Friday around 1pm.The bartender (Dan) was friendly, made great food and drink suggestions, and i noticed him bsing very helpdul to others there. At that time of day its pretty much empty, so sitting at bar is great option.I took advantage of HH prices so when you look @ what I spent know I ordered food TO GO in addition to what I ate and drank inside the establishment!
The food was okay. We sat in the bar area to eat. We went there during a slow time. Service was okay everybody was nice.
Tiniest “super burrito” I’ve ever seen, the size of a soda can. $17 for a soda can sized burrito, not counting the 12 oz which was $3.50. Not coming back here.
Bartendress made good drinks. Karaoke was fun. One of the cooks was wiping his nose all out for everyone to see...gross..food was cold...5 stars for the bartendress and karaoke KJs
I ordered based off the picture and I got food that was as good or better, it was so good I had to order it again, that super burrito was yum x10 youll be seeing me again.
Decent food. Nothing extraordinary, but good. Atmosphere is okay. Its a little bit like a cafeteria, but sitting in the bar is less so. They do salsa on Wednesday nights. Not sure if its every Wednesday or not. But have been there several times when its happening. So be prepared for a very crowded and noisy spot on those nights. However, they have one of my absolute favorite drinks! The passion de Argentina! Its spicy, tart, a little sweet and herbaceous! Its hits it all my friends! I recommend going there just for that drink alone.... And often times I do!
Outside seating was good while you wait for your meal you get the view of the town n ppl moving along the atmosphere was very calming too.
Not very good food especially if youre looking for good or authentic Hispanic/Mexican food. Pretty bland overall.
Food was overpriced , very bland, and small portions for the high price. Cold chips and salsa for 5. Was a joke. I dont recommend this place.
Foods okay but expensive for what you get. Might be better as a bar, I dunno.
I went there few years ago, a good place to eat and meet. And owner is such a great soul !
Absolutely bogus burrito, legit one of the worst I’ve ever eaten. I ate half of it before I literally took it apart to see if there was ANYTHING aside from beans and I counted literally 5 pieces of tomato and probably an ounce of chicken. I don’t ever write reviews but in a town this competitive thats lost so many great restaurants this place shouldn’t exist.
Both items I ordered came smothered in sour cream which I didn’t want and specifically ordered items that didn’t say sour cream.. so that ruined my order..
We had such a great time here the other night! I had never been to a salsa bar before. I was nervous because I dont know how to salsa. It was okay though because there are plenty of friendly people there to show you the ropes. Plus they have lessons! The drinks were good too, albeit a little pricey. We cant wait to go back!
Great big mole burrito. Rice was perfect not too dry, not too moist, black beans were equally good, sour cream was fresh. Served fast and fresh for very late lunch.Excellent side of freshly prepared crunchy tortilla chips and homemade salsa that was mild but had deep cumin and cilantro flavors and enough chilie bite to give a small amount of fire. Not cheap but worth it.I was the only person in the restaurant but it was early late lunch/early dinner. The staff was friendly, attentive and my order was brought to me so quickly that I had not even taken off my jacket.
The last few times I have ordered from here Ive ordered my usual which is supposed to come with a generous slathering of green sauce, but has come with no sauce or toppings. As this changes the price from the unsauced version Im not sure why Im getting charged extra and it looks like this has been common for other patrons as well. That being said NORMALLY this place is pretty good at the price. Huge servings and fantastic churros.
This review is about dance only. Im an intermediate salsa dancer and I find that its hit or miss with this venue. In the last couple of months Ive gone three times. On Friday nights. One time I had an awesome time on a salsa cubana night. One time I left before even going inside because there were only half a dozen people there. One time was so over crowded and people just stepping all over each other. Experience varies. But when its fun its really fun. Depends on who shows up!
Fabulous food, service and prices. Great for families.
My burrito was extremely blah. No flavor to the rice or beans, I got veggie meat, but there was hardly any in it. My order came quickly, and the cashier was nice, but I doubt I will get a burrito from here again.
Front couner (register) employee didnt seem to care about customer service (guy with brown hair in a bun) took well over an hour for 4 carnesada tacos (!!!) because of shift change -- also got no apologies, no such empathy from any employee behind the front couner for taking so long..Mind you the restaurant was almost empty at our dining time. Not worth the amount of $$ spend all the way around.Bar guy was amazing though !
All the food Ive tried so far has been really good, and this is coming from an LA native. The music is also great.I like that there is usually a really good variety.Ive come on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
If you want a salsa, bachata and cumbia music to dance this is your go to. I’ve been coming for over 6 years and I do have a wonderful time. People are great and the atmosphere is friendly. Give it a try, dance entrance is $10.
We went here for our monthly work lunch for my department. Our lunch is only an hour & a half - we were able to walk the few blocks to get there, sit down, order for 12 people, eat, leave and walk all the way back with plenty of time to spare. Really good food, portions for the price and great service
The bartender was playing/petting a dog and did not wash his hands. Food was good, not great or award winning. Definitely worth a stop if youre traveling through or a neighbor, but not something to go outta your way for.
Last minute decision. Was worth it. Yeah, its a bit kitschy and offers dancing classes. But, yknow. The food is exceptional. The Brazilian beef is divine. The cod is some of the best Ive ever tasted. The cilantro was fresher than anything Ive ever gotten from the supermarket. Best of all, they let us dine in in the 40 minutes they remained open. A total class act in hospitality. I can see why theyve been open forever.
Good food and fast, friendly service on our to go order.
Fun place and they just added karaoke on Thursdays
The food is good for a quick bite. Salsa was fresh and spicy. Chips were made in house. Guacamole was tasty.
Seems to have a lot of bad reviews which is odd to me because Ive ordered from there about 5-10 times and its never been bad. Its never been mind blowing, its a little overpriced, but their burritos have been good enough I keep ordering them in my rotation of good burrito places. The main reason I order from here is when Im visiting my mom, she doesnt like Mexican food and I love it, but I can get her an actually good cheeseburger here too, and I can get a beyond meat vegetarian burrito so its kind of the best compromise we have.Ive never been disappointed, solid enough burritos. A bit overpriced for sure but Ive always enjoyed what Ive gotten, never had any problems.
The blonde bartender with a beard who was working last night 5/22 has a serious attitude problem and was shockingly rude. I know customer service sucks, but we were friendly easy going customers who just ordered drinks and there was no reason for him to behave like that.
Got a two taco plate with rice and beans. The best thing in that plate was the rice. The fish taco tasted like it was just frozen minutes before. The steak taco with chipotle sauce was extremely sweet tasted like bbq. Also $5 for a jarrito?! That’s absolutely absurd. Thr live is not worth the food.
Shrimp taco was good, but the fish taco I received (I couldnt choose what type I wanted when I ordered online, but they have fried and grilled; I was given grilled), the fish was bad and I ended up throwing it away after one bite. I say this as someone who likes eating stinky fish (salmon, Bonito, mackerel) and this was not a pungent fish. Disappointing because the last time when I got the fried fish tacos, they were pretty good. Not the most amazing ones Ive ever had, but definitely hit the spot. Enjoyed their drinks the one time I had a work function here. The space is nice and open for larger parties, but always sparsely staffed. Leaving two stars for the shrimp taco and the drinks (it was covered, so I dont know if they were well-priced).
I was really craving some good Mexican food tonight so I got on Maps to find somewhere to go pickup my would be dinner. On Maps it says youre open until 12am. I pulled up at 11:24pm after driving across town and opting not to eat at the Mexican restaurant I was actually near. Very disappointed.
Bar staff deserves a 5, always friendly and smiling. Coming from Los Angeles I love a good burrito and this place has one of the best in the area hands down. I have to dock this place because they took away their Happy Hour special on food after 1030pm. I used to be a regular there at least once if not twice a week but with the burritos being $13 now, Ill pass. They are good but for a place I need to stand in a line to order my food then go find a table its one notch above fast food. I understand quality but still not worth more than $8-$9.Been back since the review and they honored the deal! This was my only problem with the place. Not sure what happen the couple times I went in before...
The only downfall to this place was the lavk of communication from management down to the rest of the staff. We reserved a portion of the restaurant for a 30 person gathering with a taco bar set-up. Manager that took our order didnt tell the staff. They scrambled last minute to get things together. After that, things were phenominal!
I came in one night and ordered nachos, a street taco, chips and salsa. It was delicious. They also have a dance floor where they teach salsa and a bar area. I will definitely return.
Been here for dinner and for takeout. The food is good standard Mexican. Prices are fair. Drinks are generous. The place is a single large open floorplan.
Decent spot to satisfy your Mexican food craving... outdoor atmosphere is nice. However, if you are a family going in, try not to go in around salsa dancing time, may not want your kids around language used by people there and you really have to state your case in order to take your kids inside to use bathroom and they escort you when going in and out since it becomes 21 and over then. Food was ok, waitress was superb, restaurant and securitys ability to keep other people who are in their outdoor seating area especially when they had too much to drink is well-below expectations.
The taco salad was not what I would have expected for $12. No beans, soggy lettuce, tough, chewy steak. Qdoba is much better. I used to enjoy the food here. I know that covid has hit many sit down restaurants hard, but they need to do better. Hope they will improve the quality of the food or people will just frequent the bar.
I’ve been here twice. The bartender was not friendly either time and service was very slow despite only two occupied tables. The food is good but not worth the cold shoulder. My bill was wrong and couldn’t be corrected because there was no manager on duty. The bartender called his manager and he didn’t answer. His suggestion was to come back later to get a refund. Sorry I don’t live nearby. You could’ve given me another suggestion or sent me home with the food I should’ve gotten for the price I was charged. Never going back again.
The Happy Hour is awesome because the prices are cheap. The food is tasty, but hit and miss with some items. The staff is always friendly and accomdating. I went there with my friend that had a bad food allergy, told the server, the kitchen cleaned the entire grill before cooking his food to ensure he didnt have a reaction. It was super awesome of them to do that.
January 28, 11:30 pm arrived at the place, January 29 around 12:30, I ordered a “virgin” pina colada.Bartender lady dark hair with tatoos along the left arm gave me an alcoholic drink when I specifically said that it should be a virgin. There’s a reason for it, I am taking a medication that can not be mixed with alcohol. This made me not able to not feel well and not able to dance and enjoy the rest of my night during my 54th birthday ! This is the most horrible birthday I had to come at this place. I will not trust all the bartender here as some will not listen for what your actual order is. The specific of requesting “virgin” drinks should not be taken lightly as the person may have medications that will react to alcohol. This would endanger the life of the customer. This ruined my night to have a good time and not able to dance after. This lady bartender should be listening more. It made me horribly sick. Good thing that I only drank 1/4 of the glass of the supposedly “virgin” pina colada.Just to be fair, the tall bartender was emphatic enough to apologize and gave me coffee and water.
I ordered $30 worth of food for $10 on an app called too good to go I arrived and I left with two tiny burritos smaller than my hands. I also ordered hot chips and salsa I saw the gentleman place the chips in the fryer while I was grabbing my food to go when I got on the freeway my chips were Stone Cold I thought I was getting hot chips and salsa since on the menu it states that they are served hot.never going back again.
Too expensive for what you get. The taste and ingredients are not properly reflected in their price. It tastes fine, just nothing spectacular and $15 for a burrito and a pop is robbery. Theres soooooo many other Mexican places better than this within a 10 block range. Never had an issue with the staff or service. Never been here for dancing either.
My local place to go for Happy Hour and small bites. Food is excellent and staff is friendly and helpful. There is Salsa dancing on the weekends with live music sometimes. A big dance floor and at dinner and lunch there is a childrens play room. Their menu is large and theres a childrens menu as well. A generous bar completes experience. Sometimes I just get takeout: my favorite is taco salad with grilled chicken.
Say they open at 11, arent open and could care less about getting our business 15 min later gave up waiting, couldnt even come to the door to say one word. I get it you may have issues opening but come on guys...
There is both outdoor and Indoor seating available with sturdy innings for outside seating and cement barriers to separate dining from street. Happy hour prices are reasonable and food was good. Great and friendly service
If I could give this establishment one star; I would. But this one guy with glasses at the front door patted me down like I was a criminal. I felt so out of place. I was beyond distraught as I thought this was just “general patting” as a way of having a safe club. But this guy took it personal as, Willie, the security guy, took it personal when he ripped my bag apart and said I wasn’t allowed due to not dating him previous months ago. Therefore he wouldn’t let me nor my friends in the club. So I wasn’t allowed anywhere inside the clubs due to Willie and his morals or not dating him. I’m beyond disgusted as this isn’t a business moral. Never going back
Awesome drinks, food and music specially when dj Armando or dj Melenko are playing. Always the place to be at specially on a 3rd Friday of the month, cant go wrong, great music to dance and meet your next special someone and just to savor a great 5 star guava margarita!
Food is decent in flavor, but expensive for what you get. The staff are also kind of rude...! Went out last night (Friday night) with a group of people; the music was awful... I heard multiple people complaining about the music and some requested more salsa/bachata, but the DJ ignored it and kept playing really outdated music, kind of like at 503. I felt like most people were just dancing for inertia rather than joy. We kind of felt like we had to dance, after all we had to pay $10 per person to get in... Needless to say, we could only take so much; my friends and I were very disappointed and left early.Too bad because this place used to be fun and not as expensive!
Tried Aztec Willies for the first time. I got take out at around 11:30pm and ordered a Veggie Burrito and a Shrimp Burrito. I noticed when I looked through the bag that nothing was labeled inside. When I got home I found out one of the burritos had been made with Chicken. I dont eat meat so this was a big disappointment to find. I tried to call the store but no one picked up and their voicemail box was full. Feeling bummed and empty now. My dog enjoyed the chicken burrito though. Will willingly change my review if a manager/owner reaches out to make this right. If this review is still here, means no one has yet.
The food here was actually quite good, the customer service nonexistent. We were ignored for several minutes and when we started for the door to leave an employee decided to take our order. I went back to the counter to get additional items and was ignored by the staff again. Wth? Arrogant crew had zero interest in helping us. I understand that sometimes customers are hard to satisfy, but I assure you my wife and I are very easygoing and easy to please. To make matters worse this was our anniversary. Thanks for the bad experience guys.
Ill start by saying, Ive never physically been to Aztec Willies, but have been ordering their food for going on two years over uber eats. I picked them on a whim once, and have been a repeat customer ever since. Are the prices a little higher than Id prefer? Yes, but its worth it to pay for quality fresh ingredients, delicious food (that travels well, for those offering to go/delivery like myself), and to support local business. If youre on the fence or just doing some checking around... give Aztec Willies a try. Theyve never disappointed me, and Id be surprised to hear they disappointed you.
Great food and a memorable place to share a great time.-edited, two years later-A shame that the treatment of the waiterss is so bad if you talk to her in Spanish (both being Spanish speaking persons). Makes you feel unwelcome to be treated like that.
Such a nice place to dance, ear yummy food, and have a drink. I was here last weekend with some friends and we had a great time. They offer a salsa, bachata class before they open the dance floor. We danced all night and all the guys where very respectful. 😊👍
Very nice place .. good atmosphere and best music to dance 💃, salsa, and cumbia 👍 anywhere else you find that..
Went around 5:45pm on a Saturday. Placed an order to go online which was easy enough. On e taco plate was missing cheese as requested, one taco plate was labeled green chicken instead of Chilli Verde pork,A taco order was supposed to be el taco with deep dried cod and instead it was their regular fish taco with the pineapple. They didnt include any salsas or anything and they didnt ask if I wanted any. The place was essentially empty so Im not sure what went wrong but unfortunately we wont be back. Outside of all of the mistakes, the food ended up being only okay anyway. Very disappointing.
It’s 11pm and it says they are open until 12am, I took a cab here for their good chips and salsa and a margarita. They are closed. 1 hour before their posted closing time. I love this place but not when it costs me 2 cabs.
Good food. Nothing fancy or exceptional. Just good Mexican food. But $42 for 8 bite sized mini soft tacos without any side dishes? I get the exacts same tacos with the exact same quality, taste, & presentation for $12.50 at various food carts around town. Highly disappointing Aztec Willies is over charging people to this extent for just some simple tacos.
Their food is good and the salsa is some of my favorite in Portland. However, they really need to be more consistent with whether customers are supposed to order at the counter or at the table. They have attempted to make it so that at lunch you order at the counter and at dinner, the table. But this is NOT consistent, in addition to being annoying. My husband and I went in last night at 6:30. They still had their lunch signs up, and even though it’s obviously not lunch, we went to the counter to confirm where we should order. The man behind the counter said to order at the table. So we made our way to an outside table to wait for the server. When we hadn’t been approached after 10 minutes, even though they KNEW we were here, my husband went inside to check. In frustration, I went in as well and saw a line of people (4-5 deep) ordering. Needless to say, we took our business elsewhere and in the future, will really consider whether or not their salsa is worth their terrible service.
Every time I go there they get my order wrong. I have to repeat it over and over, they repeat it back to me, when I get my order (stapled in a paper bag), I walk home only to find out they f d up again. Yet they understood that I wanted a plastic bowl with water for my dog. Youd think that when 3 fellas repeat my order back to me they would get it right, but Noooo ! Dont think I am going there again. Its too frustrating.
Good spot. Tasty food. Nice happy hour options and great late night food place. 1/2 priced menu and happy hour from 10:30 to midnight. Margaritas are usually pretty solid here too.
We went for food and dancing. The food was decent, service acceptable. Nothing to rave about, but nothing to complain about either. The dancing we did not really enjoy. There were a few people dancing and A LOT of people sitting and watching. Lights were turned all the way up and the environment was not at all condusive to beginner salsa dancers like us.
This was one of the best ceviches Ive ever had, hands down. Superist fresh basic palate with a spicy kick was a sweet surprise but the the miniature avocado softening the song made it perfect. Normally seafood would be raw and fresh, but they inserted a lightly cooked shrimp to just delight during these times. Yay!
Pretty confusing when you walk in. Theres no signs about any kind of table service being offered or even where to order at the counter. Aztec seems to have gone down hill based off my previous experiences Soggy quesadilla with chewy undercooked asada. I get that theres no dining inside but they could at least have had some music playing. The bartender didnt know what a Tom Collins was and did not make it correctly although did taste good.We are limited to seating as they allowed people to smoke in their outdoor dining tents. Would not recommend to anyone.
Just...wow. Everything was completely disappointing. I order Door Dash, of which most of my order was wrong. The Taquitos were incredibly burnt and had no toppings on them (why? I asked for Sour Cream on the side!), the Tamale was the wrong sauce and also had Sour Cream on it and the Ceviche was obviously not Rock Shrimp and had a scant amount of it in the ceviche, of which was also filled with shredded Lettuce and Salsa...which is not listed on the menu.Everything tasted like days old oil as well, compounded with tasting flavorless. I would not go back to this establishment if someone paid me to. I should have known by other reviews, but wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt.
Ordered the tamale combo plate (2 tamales, rice, beans) Its very just... Well plain tasting I guess. No real flavors or spices to speak of. Same with the rice and beans, just lacking flavor all around. With a $17 per plate price tag I kinda figured out would be alright. Pretty disappointed.... And I know plating isnt the most important on to-go orders, but its like that dumped a gallon of some flavorless red sauce all over everything. Oh, and I ordered an $8 side of salsa that never came with my order as well 🙁
Absolute trash! Gave them chance after chance but on New Years Eve they put the icing on my 2021 cake. Found a hair in my kids enchilada plate and FOUR hairs in my mojo de ajo burrito, even took a video of myself dissecting it. I stopped my family from eating the meal and took it all back the next day. I was told to wait on a call but when I went in to get what I assumed would be a full refund, I got the run around and was told to come back again. On my third time back today, again there was nobody to offer help and was told to wait again on a call. The worker seemed to be the only one concerned about the situation and I thank her for her patience. Thomas who cant even face me is a sad excuse for a manager/owner. I do not recommend as it is over priced and definitely not authentic Mexican in any shape or form. Lost me as a customer and I dont wish them bad but I do urge you all to check your food before biting in. Happy 2022!!
Used to love coming here before the remodel when they didnt charge you for chips and salsa. Went here a couple of weeks ago for dinner and was completely ignored by the waitress. It wasnt that crowded but everyone who came in after us got their food within 20 minutes. Finally after almost 40 minutes of waiting the manager came to let me and the other two people I was with know that our food would be on the house because our food went out to the wrong table. The waitress came to us only after the manager talked to us, but left shortly after never to be seen again. We ended up eating and just walking out after because no one came back to check on us. I wonder how long it took them to realize we left...Props to the manager though. She was very apologetic about the whole thing.
One of the most comfortable places to eat. With a delicious Mexican themed menu and convenient location in the lloyd district Aztec Willies is one of our family favorites. They have a great late night menu with discounts and regularly offer music, dancing and dancing lessons on any given day. Its hard to find a similarly enjoyable, interactive, and inclusive restaurant. Great place to eat.
Went for thrice for salsa dancing and was disappointed. The DJ was good, vibe was good but the leads don’t have the curtesy of letting the follows go. They dance with the same follow for 10 songs, exhaust them and dance with them again when they come back. If you’re not a couple you’ll find a hard time finding a follow. Please rotate when you’re done!
I wouldn’t even give this place one star but it’s required to leave a review. I went in for a breakfast burrito that cost $12.00, I paid an extra $2.00 for bacon. This was the lousiest breakfast burrito I have ever had in my life. Literally no bacon in my burrito. I will never return to this place. Taco trucks are the way to go. Vita los taco trucks!
Met some friends there before a Winterhawks game. Parking is tough in that area. Waitress was great and worked her tail off, but the food was not that good. Had some of their happy hour bites, the fish tacos were not good, I would not reccomend those if you go.
I love going to this place with my girlfriend. She’s now much of a dancer but when the music starts she starts to move. I haven’t tried the drinks my self but all my friends say that they’re very good. Hard to find a table but it’s a cool environment.
I love coming here for happy hour and no-frills, good food. Gotta love nachos and quesadillas, and there are plenty of other options. The Cadillac margarita is a favorite for taste and potency. Staff is friendly. Lots of tv screens usually showing a few different sporting events. Great spot for a quick, unpretentious bite and cocktail.
I’ve been a loyal customer for years, and I’ve recommended this spot to anyone and everyone. I won’t be doing that anymore. There are a handful of good things to say about Aztec Willies, but my experience has been absolutely awful with the bartenders (specifically Jen). I’ll say there are equally, if not better, places to eat Mexican food and dance. I don’t think I’ve ever given a 1 star review to anyone, but I can confidently do so this time 💔. Save your money folks, find a good time elsewhere.
Good food but overpriced. Owner is imposing a 5% increase on tabs due to minimum wage increase. Not cool. Last time I came in I waited 30 minutes for my drink which the bartender repeatedly forgot to make. My food also sat on the counter for 20 minutes before bringing it out to me. Its conveniently located.
Clean and friendly! Pretty pricey though, for what it is (hense the 4 stars, although I wanted to give 4.5). Mahi-mahi tacos were pretty good, although lacking in enough sauce so I’d definitely ask for extra sauce. Nice patio area and I hear the salsa dancing🕺 💃 is a blast there. Bonus they have a lil kiddo play area for anyone with kiddos(non supervised). Pretty fast service for food which is nice.
Service was slow. We didnt get menus for ten minutes after sitting down. We had to flag down a waiter to order. Every step of the process was excruciating, and then the food was mediocre. The worst part (aside from bad service) was that the out door tables were supposed to be no smoking but one table ignored that and all four women at the table were smoking. Even when asked to stop smoking they would quit for a few minutes and then start again. The waiters didnt enforce the no smoking policy so we were left with smoke blowing into are hungry faces.
Some weekends they have dancing there and it can get pretty crowded. But their food is so good its worth it to go even when its packed. Ive been in PDX for a year now and its the best food ive eaten here. The wife and I go every Saturday night. Its my favorite place!!
I live nearby so I’ve tried this place a few times. Food isn’t terrible, but it’s very inconsistent even when ordering the same items, and is overpriced. $10 for three small taquitos really surprised me compared to other restaurants in the area. Tonight though they messed up my entire order, and couldn’t get a refund with DoorDash. Decided that’s the last time I’ll be ordering from them since there are better places around.
This place is cool if you like to go dancing salsa on a Friday night, but otherwise, its surprisingly dive-y. The staff is friendly, and the drinks are strong. This place did introduce me to something called a cilantrus, which is an amazing drink with muddled cilantro, but there was only one bartender that would make it for me, and he is rarely there or no longer there, so no extra bonus star for that.
Make sure you get sour cream, when you pay for sour cream. The burritos are under seasoned and over priced, the staff is openly rude to you. This place was WAY better before covid.I dont see any reason to go back, ever.
The food was good but overpriced. The wait staff was very friendly and I could tell they were working very hard. I was completely put off by the whole 5% charge for min wage increase business on the check. Just what is this supposed to do? Shame the wait staff? Thats why Aztec Willies is getting one star. Its tacky and some how I doubt the owners would lower their prices even if they didnt have to pay actual living wages.
Went for drinks and nightlife. It was a lot of fun. I think they shouldnt charge a cover since we buy drinks though. Or make the cover charge like $2 or something more symbolic than anything. And just give the DJs a percentage of the profits that night or flat rate, whatever they want. Other than that, a great mixture of people patronize it and are very approachable. Will be coming back again.
Fantastic food and service! We love our taco Tuesday they need to wipe the outdoor tables with soap and water. Best happy hour and great cocktails!
Great food and beer selection. Happy hour options are amazing. I loved the area for kids to play while parents can enjoy their dinner. Service is super friendly, plates are the right size and affordable
A diverse group of people that just come to learn and dance. Salsa nights here are full of energy and laughter. The bartenders are nice and make a great Margarita and can we talk about the Chile Verde Nachos 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 One of the main reasons I go 😬
I went here to celebrate my birthday. Service was a little slow but food and waiter made ip for it. I would recommend the Blood Orange margaritas. We had the fajitas and enchiladas. The food was so good. The only thing I would say is the fajitas did not come on a sizzling plate and we are used to them coming with sour cream and guac and it didnt come with those but the tortillas were to die for. I would highly recommend you stop by and give them a try.
Great place. Nice outdoor seating with indoor options as well. Food and bar service were wonderful. Cant wait to come back for more $5 margaritas!
Came in two hours before they closed and ordered fajitas and a steak burrito. They had already turned off the grill and couldnt make these dishes. The only meats we could chose from looked like theyd been sitting on the Chipotle-style buffet warmers for hours. We opted to go to Matador instead for fresh food.
The food was very spicy but so delicious. I was very surprised the Horchata was not from a package. I could have stayed there and just drank it all night. The staff was very friendly even during the busy hour we were there
Didnt make my food right and even asked twice to make sure and still screwed up the order forgetting to add cheese, guac, sour cream and I still didnt get the right meat I ordered! But the bartender did make some good Margaritas.
We went in for a late dinner and had a horrible experience. They end table service around 8:30pm, so we had to order from the counter. It took forever for them to acknowledge us, let alone take our order. They were rude and we felt like we were totally inconveniencing them. The food was ok, but nothing special. I cant see myself going back.
Got a smothered burrito. It was good not amazing. Decent for the price. My server was unhelpful when I asked for reccomendations. I asked about portion size and how filling the item might be and got a I dont want to tell you how much to eat response. Sure, but... Wha? I wanted something other than water but the Horchata was out, soda fountain broken so after some asking around turns out I could get a drink from the bar. But limited to a few drinks. Famous salsa, but no free chips and salsa while you wait. Its a menu item. Not going back anytime soon.
Expensive place to go beer 6 dls when other places have them for 3.50 and the food its terrible its so sweet not even close to Mexican real food plus they charge to go in side on weekends because of the dance not everyone goes there to dance. Ridiculous place not recommended at all
It was very crowded and extremely humid and hot. Not a place for the claustrophobic. I had to excuse myself several times. I hear the food I great. The menu looked good and reasonably priced.
This place is amazing if you have kids. Well even if you don’t have kids it’s great too. The food is fantastic and they have a great family atmosphere. In the corner they have a kids play place where you can watch your kids while they play from many of the tables. We will be back again soon!
Pricing is moderate, but I was able to get my carne cooked to my liking. The lovely server at the counter was friendly and helpful! The ingredients are so fresh! I also had the horchata ... it is a little spendy, but they make it from scratch instead of a mix, so the flavor and texture is sooo good and it was delicious! I would totally come back
Been going here for YEARS!!!! But the food was a bit overdone this time and not as fresh tasting as I remember. Asada was over cooked, but the people that work there was fantastic. I may try them again soon in hopes the redeem the food portion.
Good food and drinks selection. Have been told they are famous for their Margaritas and tried!! Delicious!! Also, if you are into Latin Dance (Timba, bachata), check their First Friday of the month! they have an amazing gathering from all over Oregon and good social dance meet!!
I had the fish tacos. Didnt want the mango salsa so I hot the pico. For whatever reason they put bbq sauce on top of my fish tacos! Like what? Gross. I tried to scrape it off best I could and still eat it but was not good. My friend and I paid $30 for 4 tacos and 2 orders of chips and salsa with no drink. These prices are rediculous! Especially for sub par food. My friends go here every week for taco Tuesday and I refuse to waste my money again so I miss out every week. Total bummer experience all around to me!
The food here is flavorful and the atmosphere is chill. Had a couple mole enchiladas with extra pico de gallo in the rice. Even the pico is good here. And then, apparently, on Fridays they have a dance lesson at 9:30-10:00ish and the place turns into a club (Bachata on this Friday). Makes for an excellent evening. I WILL be back.
Ive got to hand it to the staff of this place. They are incredibly friendly!! I also find their prices to be incredibly reasonable, especially during happy hour. Sometimes I just want a no frills burrito or taco and this places fits the bill.
I hate this place!! Terrible drinks and way too expensive. Tecate cans are $7.50 for 12oz. You go anywhere in town with Latin music and they are $3.00 for tall cans 16oz. The staff is nice, music is outdated but unfortunately this is the only place with Latin music all the time.
Weve come to this location for years. Unfortunately prices have increased, potions have decreased and the food was luke warm (the cheese wasnt even melting inside the burritos). They no longer give you chips or salsa with your order. Wont be returning again unfortunately.
We bought a condo almost right in front of this place about 12 years ago. Have gone in to check the place and thought it was a dive. Today I was by myself and didnt want to go too far from my condo in pdx for dinner. But thebartentender was so nice, I decided to patronize it.. I ended staying there and only because of the bartentender, Joshua D. I certainly will go back but only if I see this guy working .
Ordered through DoorDash and half items ordered were missing plus wrong meat was used in burrito (ordered carnitas; got steak). It might’ve been good if they could’ve done one thing correctly. Doubt I’ll waste the money again.
Food used to be much better
Oh my goodness. This is the number one place for latin dancing in the portland metro area in my opinion!!! Great staff! Fun people! Good food too!! The nachos are excelent and the fish tacos are also yummy!! I cant wait to go back!
Great food & Margaritas. Tortillas, salsas & other goodies all made in house. Yummy!!!Pleasant atmosphere with tables & bar seating. I really like Aztec Willies for South of the Border Mex cuisine!!
The food is OK, the place is nice, but DJ CJ is the worst! Bad music, wrong mixes with pauses in between songs and he was just dancing around instead of actually paying attention to his job. Never coming back when he is the DJ.
I have only tried the food once, the tacos were pretty good. I go here for Social salsa dancing, no partner required! Check their website or facebook for current classes or dance nights. Cover $7 as of Nov 2016.
Not incredibly reliable. Cant blame the cooks if they don’t understand but they’ve messed up my order consistently if I order in English- order something vegetation they Give me meat. It’s tasty yet generally over priced esp of your going to get something you can’t eat.
Not good. Im fairly sure the food came out of a generic brand can from Dollar Tree. (Nothing against Dollar Tree) Hot chips were cold, salsa was the 2nd worst Ive had this year. Absolutely no personality in the food.
I ordered a $10 quesadilla and it was awful, no flavor whatsoever and somehow soggy. Don Pedros has better food and its a fast food establishment, hell Id rather have a quesadilla from taco bell than order one here again. Only reason review isnt one star is because their horchata was decent.
Really good Mexican restaurant/bar. Some of the best margaritas Ive ever had. Food was good too.
Ive never eaten here. I only come here for dancing. It brings a large crowd and the music is good. The cover is $9 on Saturday which is a bit steep in my opinion.
The DJ wasnt the best at mixing the music, but the overall atmosphere was great. Plenty of space to move around (if youre small like me), and plenty of differently paced songs to dance to.
Used to come to Aztec Willies all the time. This place is not the same. Service is painfully slow, prices have increased yet food quality has not. Our favorite server George left recently, frustrated with management. Used to be a fine establishment that lost its way. Dont come here.
Ever heard of a Latino club that turns down Latinos from Latinoamerica? This is it. I brought my cousins from Chile here and they said they needed to show passports. They then proceeded to tell us that every other club in Portland will require them to show passports. Since when do people need a PASSPORT to get into a club (probably the most unsafe place to take a passport). We literally walked down the street to Fuse Bar and they accepted their Chilean ID no problem. Absolutely ridiculous.
There are so many good Mexican restaurants in Portland. This is not one of them. We had an expensive and mediocre happy hour, and when the bill came, there was a 5% minimum wage increase surcharge on top of the high prices. Dont waste your time at a place that doesnt believe in a livable wage.
Every time I come here Ive never had a complaint on the food always excellent service and they go out of the way for the customers
Food is really great, but it is SO loud in there. Had trouble ordering and even talking to each other cause we couldnt hear a thing.
My favorite place to go for dancing! I’ve only gone to Bachata Wednesdays but I always have a blast
I think this is the first Mexican restaurant I ate at after moving to Oregon 17 years ago. It was bland then, and when I ate there again recently, its still bland. I had also forgotten that they nickel and dime you for every little thing. If you want chips and salsa, be prepared to pay for it. Overpriced and completely forgettable, all things considered.
Best salsa Ive ever had. Been eating here for 10+ years and have never been disappointed with the food. The soda has never not been flat though, but I shouldnt be drinking it anyway, so thanks for that too, I guess.
Cool atmosphere. Terrible veggie tacos. Heres an idea gang. Try seasoning your food. Not something I ever thought Id ask of a Mexican place.
It was ok. Not great... Not terrible... if you have to have Mexican food and theres nowhere else to go, this place will do. Had to order lunch at the counter, no table service. I had tamales. Way too much masa, not much filling, and the beef was kind of dry.
The service was good, the food was nothing special but the prices are ridiculous, in my opinion. $6 for one enchilada. $14 for a plate of nachos with unseasoned carne asada. No complimentary chips and salsa either. I wont be back.
Still a nice place... if you like bachata only.... dj wont play salsa, merengue, cha cha... only bachata.... not for me...
A couple of coworkers and I came here after work and we were having a good time, drinks and food. Only hours after I came home I got immediate food poisoning. Ive been sick for three days. I only had one beer, one water and one burrito that I shared. The people making the food didnt have any gloves on and who knows when they washed their hands. On top of that, they over charged my friend $4 extra for something he never bought. I will never go there again!
Food was not good and was very overpriced
I got very poor customer service. After sitting at a table my friends were already at, and not be helped for 10 minutes, I got up and tried to ask a staff how to order a horchata. The young person told me that they didnt know and I could do what I wanted. I attempted to clarify if I should continue waiting at the table or if I should order it from a counter. The staff member seemed so confused that I just told them Id figure it out myself. I eventually ended up just sitting back at the table and never was talked to by a staff that night. I proceeded to not order a single thing for myself that night for the duration of my 45 minutes in the restaurant. A friend at my table had to go to the bar just to order drinks and chips for all 8 of us at the table! Then they didnt bring the chips and still seemed so confused about us ordering chips! It was clear there was either a lack of management presence or training to employees. Had this been an opening night for Aztec Willies, it would have been a flop. Never have I seen staff act so confused by simple request for service. Im never going back. Also, my friends Negra Modelo was served with lime as if it were a Corona.
Good service - not so great food. My steak fajitas were chewy and bland. My co-worker got the carnitas burrito. Said it wasnt very good.
I used to go here somewhat frequently. I hadnt been since the pandemic so I talked it up to a friend and took him there about two weeks ago. Neither one of us finished our plates.
Been going here over 20 years. The menu has changed.they removed my favorite taco, but had no problem making it for meanyway. Just had to ask. Ive heard the very best margueritas in town!!!
Such an amazing beautiful spot! Tasty food, drinks, music and a dancefloor... It was cool to watch and eat.The workers were super nice and prices were not badDefinitely would go back whenever I am in Portland!Would recommend to others
The staff was friendly, the food was great. There were a few mix-ups on our order but the staff handled it well and were quite gracious. Would definitely return again.
The salsa really is delicious...the chips, although not warm, were good. The burrito very simple, just beans and chicken.
It used to be good, but has gone downhill. The service and food were terrible. However, the margaritas were good as usual. We wont be eating there again.
DONT GET THE FISH TACO. Besides that its what you would expect. Happy hour is obviously the way to go considering the specials and the TVs showing sports in the bar, but nothing is spectacular. The restaurant is counter service and its busy during timbers and blazers games so be prepared.
Very good food and great staff. Open inside until 2am. They have salsa nights and a full bar. Pretty great place. You should for sure check it out.
I have been finding myself in Portland area a lot lately. If it happens to be a Wednesday, one can find me getting my dance fix here. Its an awesome mixed (more beginners and few advanced) crowd. Its mostly Bachata with one or two salsas thrown in there. They have an hour Bachata class in the beginning that ends around 10:30. If in the mood for bachata dancing or just lounging thats the place on a Wednesday.
I stop in for a drink, my girlfriend and I, I ordered a beer and a shot, my girlfriend ordered a lemon drop, I was served first, she had to wait..... The lemon drop was sub-par to say the least, the service was less than adequate. I dont know if I will revisit again?
So I totally got food posioning here! I had to go to the hospital and thought I was going to die. I called them to let them know and they were so agressive about it to me. DO NOT EAT HERE. I live close by and have heard horrible stories after sharing my experience about this place, bad customer service, food posioning, mean staff, paying for good reviews and having bad ones taking off and over priced. So many better places to eat in portland than this place. THEY ARE THE WORST AND CAN GET YOU SICK.
I love it. They do happy hour from open till 6 and have wifi, so its nice to take a long lunch here
Great food. Plus from 10:30 till midnight its 50% off all food everyday. Decent bar to wait at and grab a quick drink while you wait for something to go
Got an enchilada meal to go. Food was alright but I’ve had better for the price. Kind of a fun environment though and it’s nice that they’re open late.
I had chilies rolleno from the happy hour menu and a classic margarita. Their chilies rolleno and the margarita were both delicious. The room is specious allowing plenty of room between tables. A good place to take kids.
Super fun place to just have fun
I ordered some beef 🌮 and beef nachos I thought I was chewing beef bubble gum... I took it back, dude that re-made my food ad a very bad attitude. Place is only good for tequila dont buy any food.!
Mostly I like this place for Slasa dance in the nights upto 1am. Food is good and drinks too. I prefer having some food and doing salsa 😍. Also good for groups to have fun or spend weekends.
The margaritas are excellent, the food is good. The staff is friendly and it has a really nice atmosphere for hanging out and enjoying friends or family.
Colombian/Cuban night.Food is OK more bad than good. Music during latin nights is really old. They need a better DJ that doesnt play the same songs every weekend. Colombian night is fun for 1 or 2 hours but then the music selection becomes boring and antiquated. I hate it when they play a billion bachata songs then 1 reggaeton song, then a billion salsa songs in a loop. Theres no variation whatsoever in the music set lists. You can get away with not paying a cover if you arrive before 9, but then you have to dreadfully wait for the restaurant to turn into a night club and suffer through the eternal salsa lessons for people who cant dance. If you want to arrive when the mood is in a different state, get there by 10 or 11, but then you have to pay cover and pay for expensive drinks.
They never get my order right, even though I detail exactly what Im looking for. Also, their `ribeye´ burrito is definitely not ribeye, and the food (while passable) is not that great. Been here 4 times, probably not going back again.
