I only come for 80s night on Fridays, so I can only speak for that experience. It is an absolutely immaculate experience with both the music, lights and other sensory stuff like fog creating a PERFECT mood that matches the genre. The people always seem great and high energy, which I think speaks to the vibe of the place itself.
Great venue, but consistently terrible music. They had 3 different deejays and all of them were playing billboard 100 hits from 10 years ago. Would like it a lot more if they actually played something besides Rihanna, cardi b, Kay z etc… at all the stages. Come on do better
Such a cool space, has the potential to be so much better but the music SUCKS! DJs were playing mid 2000s hits, like My Hump by The Black Eyed Peas, no remixing. That’s one thing on a weekday but this was a Saturday night, it’s just lazy and boring. Very disappointing. Will not be back.
Not much of a drinker, but this place is fun to experience! I love the historic building and vibrant atmosphere. They make a great mule, and have different themes for different nights.
The venue itself is fun and has a ton of space. Staff was fast and friendly. Drinks were average price for 6th street but there is an automatic 22% gratuity added for all card charges (makes it easier to not have to close out at the end of the night).
I had a great time here. I’ve been to both the location in Austin and San Antonio now! I need to visit the one in Houston next. I love the music and also the happy hour! 😇
I’m here now and it’s the best night of my life. The music and ambience are magnificent. Definitely coming back when I leave
Good vibes, music, huge back patio but f the door guy who added a 30% tip to the cover charge
Great venue, lots of space, friendly staff, and cool lighting. I love their Friday 80s night, I was very happy to see such a vibrant crowd there. Their TV setup is really interesting, on the larger TVs they played the music videos for the songs they played, and on the smaller TVs they were playing Barbarella.Would recommend and will go back.
A fun place to go out and enjoy a night dancing. The bartender Autumn was really sweet, and managed to make stuff they didnt normally make so I could enjoy a night out. Very knowledgeable bartender and never had to wait long for a drink
Got my phone stolen here last Friday with a bunch of other people. Still waiting to be contacted and to see if they will check the security cameras or file a police report.
If I could give this place a 0 I would the atmosphere and air was really musty. Weird and creepy vibe..
Good bar with dancing but at the end of the night I was escorted out for no reason beside standing outside. Security with long brown hair was on a power trip.Plenty of other good places to go.
Emo nights is super fun and has $2 drinks until 11pm. The bar gets pretty backed up though. Very fun atmosphere and music. Clean restrooms too.
Want to experience a bit of Austin dancing? We dont do square dancing. We go to Barbs. Definitely check out Jimmy eat Wednesdays for all your throwback 90s hits that will bring out your nostalgic emo teenage self and grits and gravy for funky disco and hits from 50s-70s. You cant go wrong with either option. People genuinely have an amazing time and go there to dance. As a woman, I have never been groped or made uncomfortable on the dance floor, which cant be said for places on 6th.
Perfect except for the guy who didn’t let me in with my printed license that is what was issued to me by the state and it takes a month to process a license renewal. They say they don’t accept paper IDs but what is one to do when you roll up with your government issued temporary paper ID? Stupid policy. Good music
Egotistical DJ/owner won’t play anything but what he wants to listen to, even if you’re trying to tip him. My friend had someone try to put his hand up her skirt several times and no one did anything. I wanted this to be good for its namesake but was greatly disappointed!
I would leave 0 stars if i could. before i even walked in, the service was bad. i was in line and a homeless man demanded i paid $5 to enter while the door guy just watched it happened. others in line questioned why this bar would allow for customers to be robbed while the door men just stood accomplice. i’m disappointed that no one spoke up to warn customers that the homeless man was not a part of the bar.
The best club i’ve been to so far. music was 10/10
Though the bartenders were great, I don’t think it’s right that the establishment automatically charges a 22% tip! I always tip servers so I gave them extra because I wasn’t aware of the automatic tip charge. It’s kind of deceiving Barbarella! At least post a more visible sign other than on a receipt you sign in the dark.
Barbs is okay. I go occasionally and people are pretty nice. I would avoid it on event weekends though cause the door people get kinda testy and aggressive though I suppose its a stressful time. Drinks are not bad and priced fairly. 6-7 bucks for mixed drinks. Free water station and unisex WC. On most nights you also get access to Swan Dive as well and a super big back patio that includes another bar. Awesome dance spot!
One of my favorite places in Austin, I go almost every week! The bartender Allie is always so sweet, accommodating, and knowledgable about drinks. Barbs never fails on making it a good night
A hip dance club on Red River in Austin. A good spot to meet up with folk and dance the night away. They stay open until 3 some nights, but only if youre already inside before 2, and no entry or re-entry after 2.
A security guard here was VERY aggressive towards me for having alcohol on me when I didn’t realize I shouldn’t. He crushed my beer and then began to yell in my face and forced me to be kicked out. I felt assaulted and everyone who worked there didn’t do anything to help the situation, so I calmed myself and left with the help of my friends. This is so unacceptable to me that a human especially a vulnerable woman should be treated this way. I would never write a post like this if I didn’t feel violated.
They took my knife upon entering and had too much fun I forgot to grab it on the way out. Couldnt find my way back before my flight out of Texas. My friend that was still in Austin tried to retrieve her for me but was denied. Farewell to my little silver gerber knife. Every time I open a box, Ill think of her
The worst service in all of austin. the workers thrive off of power trips and abuse their patrons. a worker named tommy recently slapped a drink out of my hand and soaked me in alcohol, honestly really scary. there are way better places to go in austin.
My wife and I have been coming to Barbs for over 10 years. Always a great time jammin to the 80s on Friday nights. Love that there is always a diverse crowd of all ages that is judgment free. Bartenders are always great and take care of you. Dress code is relaxed. $5 cover and the DJ takes you down memory lane mixing your favorite music and videos from the 80s. Thanks for a great time Barbarellas, and dont ever change.
I wouldn’t even click one star but it made me. The bouncers did not pay attention to who they let in and out the club. I had one drink and the bouncers looked at me, judged me, and told me I couldn’t come back in. I assume it’s because I wasn’t underage and was out for my first night in ten years. I will never go back to this establishment and I will ensure that none of my friends or family ever visit this place. What a disappointment. 05/11/23 just so you know what poor workers you hire.Richard was kind.
They have horrible guest service. They discriminated against my friend for having braces and being Hispanic in 2023. Consequently, they did not let us in. Highly recommend going anywhere else.
This is my favorite place in the world. It’s definitely changed over the years but still somehow has the same charm it did a decade ago. It’s a place for everyone while also not being for everyone… if that makes sense. The music and dance floor are incredible and always on point. Dance floor can get pretty packed but if you’re not ready to dance, you really shouldn’t be there. There’s plenty of space to stand around out back at the outside dj/stage. This place will forever hold the most special place in my heart!
Barbs has great dancing music and a mixed crowd (all are welcome, come as you’re dressed). The drinks aren’t *cheap* but they aren’t gonna break the bank.Bring cash for the cover. The cover is worth it ($5 as of this writing) and gets you access to Swan Dive next door.Has inside and outside bars.
Amazing Place, I am a Vegas local and typically go to Oddfellows, however I am in Austin for a weekend and wanted to check this place out as they are related. Same cool AF vibe, stellar DJs, reasonable drinks, and overall a good time. Ill definitely be back. If your looking for a night to go and you love throwbacks, come on a Thursday night for Y2K or Friday for 80s.
Very fun club, it had a pretty decent sized dance floor and lots of space outside of that with a huge open outside in the back. There were 3 big bars so you didn’t really have to wait long for a drink. The DJ played songs I hadn’t really heard, but they were actually good and I wasn’t complaining. There were tons of people there dancing and having fun and not just standing around so I’d recommend it for anyone looking to dance, drink, and have fun.
I tried entering this bar tonight, and I was turned away by the door staff unkindly, unfairly, and with disrespect. They made unfounded assumptions about my entoxication level (on a Tuesday) and would hear nothing form me, even as I spoke clearly and more kindly than they had spoken to me.I feel targeted and unsafe in my own city. My friend even works there!!! This is the second time this has happened, although in both cases, I was totally aware and fit to be granted entry. I even waited 30 minutes and tried to show I was sober, by eating a grilled cheese across the street. I wanted to share thid evening with a friend that had never been to Barbs/Swam Dive. Never again. Shame on your staff for making assumptions. This late night, caefully worded rant must have been posted by a drunkard, right? RUDE STAFF WHO TARGET PEOPLE THEY DONT WANT TO COME IN . Im furious, because I was orced to br embarrassed because they judged me on a first impressions, without actually emgaging me in conversation. I hope management sees this and is embarrassed as I was trying to share a spot I used to like with friends. 0 STARS.
Best dance spot on dirty 6th. Staff is kind of dead inside
Terrible front door staff! Like I dont think Ive ever been to a bar were the staff are just rude for no reason like it was to the point were I didnt even wanna enter heres my tip for you front door staff members if you hate your job that much just leave your misery shows not only in your face but in the way you treat the customers who did not wrong barb needs to let go of all those men I wont step foot back in a club like that I come to have a good time not to be disrespected by some high school dropouts! I went the night of 6,7,2022 these workers are losing you money do whatever you like but I wont be back
I went last Friday for the 80s music and I LOVED it. It was such a fun environment and I felt really comfortable. Everyone was just dancing and singing along, it was a good environment.I only didnt give the 4th & 5th star because they need a better sign out from to help customers know where to go and the cleanliness level of inside the bar could be increased. Oh, and the drink my boyfriend bought spilled immediately after the bartender handed it to him and the bartender saw and didnt feel inclined to remake it. I thought that was pretty low customer service--this was our first round of drinks too, we werent drunk, it was just set on an uneven surface.
Got here pretty early one night and was surprised at how small and empty it was! However, it soon started to fill up and the dance floor was an interesting mix of people! I like that they have screens with the music videos up, providing for good conversation if the dancing doesnt suit you. Overall, a fun spot to dance! Just your average drink selection so dont expect anything fancy there.
So many positive things to say about Barbs. Definitely a safe space for women because the bouncers will BOUNCE anyone with bad behavior. It’s awesome. Also? Literally no one is making drinks like they are at Barbs. These drinks are cheap and they are STRONG. Never change, Barbarellas, never change.
Always a great time here. Responsibly priced drinks with great music. Also great that it’s connected with Swan Dive in the back courtyard. Which is great if you want a different vibe for a moment and don’t want to leave and go to a new bar. However, I do wish they would start using glass instead of the hundreds of plastic cups.
This is one of my favorite places to dance in Austin. I love the diversity and atmosphere. The staff is nice and proficient. I really like how there are awesome events hosted here and how you have two different genres playing. Great music and vibes!
It is a fun place to go dance! It’s a great spot to go to with a group of friends to celebrate. I rarely go down town but tend to stop here to get ma boogie on if I do. Drinks are average priced but the staff is always fun and friendly.
I always recommend this place.Cheap drinks, nice staff (staff at doors can be rude sometimes but hey theyre dealing with wasted people so I dont blame them). The music and the sound system is amazing. They have a DJ and great dance floor playing classics, 80s, 90s pop and theres a big patio with two bar stalls , tables and chairs on one side and on the other a DJ playing hip hop so you can switch dance floors and music style.Overall, this is an awesome place.
Every night at barbs is a great night! the atmosphere is always so fun and welcoming. every other bar pales in comparison to it!
I LOVE THIS BAR! Every night of the week is a different theme or decade, they have an amazing outdoor patio area with a killer DJ on the weekends, and cheap drinks! This is definitely the most club-like dance spot off 6th but there’s chill areas around and even a coat-check! There’s a cover after 11:00 on the weekends ($5) and the line can be long but it’s because it’s an amazing spot
The level of misogyny that I have experienced here is completely discouraging. Many of my girlfriends have been kicked out at the even the smallest signs of inebriation despite having a group of fiends to help. One was not even allowed to use the restroom. They are completely fine with kicking people out on the street without hesitation after happily serving them mere minutes before. It’s unfortunate considering I felt this was one of the most accepting queer spaces in austin before. But their complete apathy towards women makes me feel like I cannot recommend this bar let alone enjoy going here again.
The most RACIST bar I have ever been to. Do not go there. It was a horrible experience. Only YT people allowed in there. Got thrown out bc I was speaking spanish with my friends. Embarrassing and disgusting staff. Unbelievably racist place don’t recommend!
I had a wonderful time with my boyfriend on 80s night with a welcoming staff quick drinks and excellent dj. Felt safe with all ages(21+), sexualities included having a good time together.
Interesting club, they have a cool vibe. Definitely more of a club feel than a bar, and a good place to go if you want to dance! Its right off red river by Plush and some other clubs, very easy to find! Cover is typically 10 dollars or under, so not terrible. Pop in for specific themed nights where the music and crowd may be more to your tastes, otherwise just head by whenever and see whats happening. Likely will not disappoint you by any means.
To be honest, this was/is my favorite bar in Austin. I was so excited to share the impeccable music taste and great drinks with my brother for his 24th birthday, and he was enjoying every aspect of it up until the last ten or so minutes.I was with an acquaintance, standing in one spot, and making out near the bar at the back exit. I truly do not believe we were exhibiting any signs of belligerent intoxication and were simply having harmless fun in the moment. Well, after less than two minutes, both of us were physically ejected out the back door and told we were too intoxicated and tersely thanked for coming. My acquaintance was treated very harshly, with me having to literally catch him as he fell out of the back entrance. I had to be assertive in order to close my tab and get my debit card back, and my brother (who had nothing to do with it) was ultimately unable to get his debit card back,I am honestly dumbfounded and disappointed by this experience and saddened by the fact that I probably wont feel comfortable returning to my favorite bar in Austin. As corny as it sounds, this seems to be the end of an era. As much as I try to see otherwise, this seems to be a case of homophobia. This is, ostensibly, an extremely gay friendly bar, but I cant help but feel like that has changed.I was making out with one person in one position for less than two minutes, and was promptly ejected with that person. I am usually extremely skeptical when I hear stories like this, but I am telling the truth.Disappointing experience at a bar I used to love, and extremely saddened. Would love to hear back from management in relation to this experience and the status of my brothers debit card.
Great vibe, diverse crowd and awesome place to dance, dance, dance...One of my favorite Austin bars on a Friday or Saturday night. The retro music videos are a blast to dance & sign along to. The DJ out back is always spinning great beats. I love that you can also go into the back entrance to Swan Dive & catch a live band!Lots of bars, so rarely a long wait for a drink. Really picks up after 11 pm.
Are you looking for a place to dance without judgement? Do you want to be surrounded by people just there to have fun and shake their moneymaker? This is the place for you.Three areas to dance in with different music selections.Excellent atmosphere, guaranteed good time if you love to dance. Themed nights.I dont care for 80s music, and I still fell in love the first time I went there on 80s night. An Austin gem.
Friday nights are great! 80s inside, some danceable hip hop out back and live music at swan dive nextdoor; all connected so you can move about freely. Lots of bars so no waiting for a drink.
Absolutely atrocious music for 80’s night. Don’t ever, ever come here on a Friday night. The dj clearly has no idea what constitutes good music. He should be barred from every single venue in Austin.
If you want to dance your butt off come here! This place is packed on weeknights and weekends! They have super cheap drinks and free cover before 11. My favorite night is Tuesdays because if their music selection. They have themed nights music. Also check out Swandive next door, it’s connected in the back.
Good place for dancing electronic music. Gets crowded after midnight. People dance in a groups, with partners or alone. Laid back style. I didnt try their drinks, instead heard some music and drinks next door at Swan Dive before.
Usually a good time. On Fridays and Saturdays it’s usually retro music videos and dancing indoors and rap/electronic music outdoors. (Not always but most of the times i have been) If you’re looking for a fancy pants place this is not it. If you are looking to work up a sweat dancing your ass off this place is great!
Best dancing in town! Gets crowded on weekends and special nights like Tuesgayz (every week) and Jimmy Eat Wednesday (once a month, I think). The wonderful bartenders are always on top of it, though. Also the best back patio.
I went for a Kanye West themed show one night and had a BLAST! The crowd was amazing, the music was legit, and the drinks were reasonably priced. Its a great hole-in-the-wall atmosphere and location and I was shocked by just how busy it got that night. It was one of my favorite nights with random people so far and I look forward to going back again!
Rude exit bouncer, but usually good vibes inside. The music is usually pretty good too but the bouncer on your way out is very unpleasant and rude. The check in bouncers are ok not great.
This club is dirty and dingy in all the right ways. Make sure to check the night though, as music can vary greatly. Typically they have a mix from indy electronic to 80s pop on the inside and hip hop on the outside. Enjoy cheap beers and a crowd that loves to dance!
Avoid this place and go next door. Pretentious staff, Soundtrack was good though. I intentionally kept paying twice the price for my drinks to take care of the bartenders. The blonde bartender at the main bar kept serving loud people that I was ahead of while waiting for service. Being polite and tipping didnt matter. The guys at the main bar as well. Service sucks. I was even told off by the bartender when I mentioned that she kept serving people I was ahead of in line. So much for being polite. Theres plenty of bars next door and in the area that play 80s and have proper service without attitude. Go to those.
I was just manhandled and groped by security towards the end of the night before the rest of the crowd was asked to leave. If you are a woman I would recommend steering clear of this establishment unless you want to be grabbed by security for absolutely no reason at all other than being profiled.
Went there last Friday, 10/23/15! Great bar. Open till 3 if I recall. Cover is $5 if you get there at or after midnight, but if you get there before midnight, you can get in for free, which is why my friends and I typically get there before midnight to get our hands stamped, then barhop and come back around 1:00 or 2:00 and get in for free! They play some current pop music, but also a lot of stuff from the 80s and 90s. Got an outdoor area with music if you want to get some breathing room or dance outdoors. Drinks are decently priced. Dance floor can get ridiculously crowded towards the end of the night, so claustrophobics beware.
I like how much bar space is here. there is a sufficient amount to slip in and make yourself noticed and get a drink. the dance floor is also quite large so you can move about even if there is a crowd. there is a good mix of music and patrons.
If you are looking for a place to dance than this is it! I was really upset when The Stage on sixth closed down. However, this place provides a nice substitute for anyone looking to listen to some oldies, and boogie on the dance floor. I do like DJs, but it would be nice to see some cover bands every once in a while here. I do always have a great time when I come here.
I only go for Tuezgays and i always have a fun time. more dua lipa, gaga, and Ariana tho plz! haha its a fun place to sweat out on the dancefloor and forget your problems. not so glamourous, kinda crusty and funky, but it adds to the charm it doesnt scare you off. unless youre a germaphobe
Great place to finish off your night, they stop serving alcohol at 2am but let everyone stay and dance until 3am. Even after it closes you can still walk right out and get food at the food trucks and trailers right across the street. Would definitely recommend coming here with a group at the end of the night!
Best Dance Club in town! Especially love Grits n Gravy on Thursday nights with Pop/Soul music from the 60s and 70s. Get your disco nap in cuz the place does not start rocking til after 11 pm!
I heard this place was racist but I didn’t believe it. A friend and I were going out had maybe 2 drinks a couple of hours before going to this place. We went in danced a bit and then went to the bar. When we got there the bartender said I had been cut off, however the person I was with was not. The only difference between him and I is that I am black and he is white. We tried a different bar in the same and and they said I was was cut off too. I was totally sober. Looking back I was the only black person in there, my sliver hair probably didn’t help. Don’t go if you care about places that treat people like that.
Before COVID, I actually came here fairly regularly. At least in different points of my life. Have had fun dancing, good outdoor area and has themed nights. I’ve enjoyed just about all I’ve seen. Tuezgays is fun. Not the CLEANEST place, but...what do you expect with this kind of a club. Lots of things going on. Probably a little sketchy stuff as well, but you just have to be aware and it should be pretty good. It’s a rambunctious place. Crazy times. Very crazy times. It’s that kind of spot. Pack in to the dancefloor and go at it. Or, just chill somewhere else if you want. Get some fresh air.
Psychologically disturbed, power-drunk, vindictive female bartender at the back bar had me kicked out for absolutely no reason. I was standing at the bar, patiently waiting for her to serve other customers. She came to me and I gestured that the guy next to me was first - I am from Scotland and generally employ impeccable bar etiquette. I can only conclude that she did not appreciate being told who to serve first because she then ignored me very deliberately as I leaned forward to make myself more visible from behind a pillar, passing by every few seconds to say Im not serving you.Realizing quickly that I must have upset her in some way (I didnt use any foul language, was very patient, quiet and polite) - perhaps she didnt like the cut of my jib - I was well-dressed in a blazer and collared shirt - I moved to the other end of the bar. She noticed me then trying to get served by her male colleague, walked over and commanded dont serve this #%$hole. Then used a flashlight to alert the drone bouncer to eject me, still for a reason she had not articulated.I am not used to being treated like this so asked politely to speak with the manager, Jimmy, who echoed what the bouncer had told me. Theres nothing I can do. When I assured him that actually, he was the one person who could do something - like not give his bartenders unconditional power over customer ejections when they could clearly see I was sober, polite and cooperative, he mumbled yeah, I guess I give them too much power. Sure. Fine. Come back another timeDisgraceful. This place is actually a great time but I cant abide arrogant management who take their customers for granted and place their staffs whims and vendettas as a higher priority than their clientele.
Great vibes, great bartenders, very clean unlike a lot of the comments state. highly recommend and if you show up before 10:30 no cover. love this place!
A little dingy, but Thursdays 60s/70s night is amazing. When you get the entire dance floor down on the ground during Shout, you know youre playing the right kind of dance music for a Thursday.I recommend a traditional shot of Fireball when they play Great Ball of Fire.
We were here a few years ago during past ACL fests and SXSW. This was a fun club that played throwback music from the 70s, 80s and early 90s. Now its just a another 6th street area club that plays predominately rap music, even on its old throwback Thursday nights. The two stars are mainly for the music. Though, the service wasnt so great this go round due to staffing issues I presume. I have to give it one plus in that it was not as full of douchebag UT bros as in previous years.
Barbarella is such a cool place and they stay open an hour later than other bars. Multiple areas with different music make it an enjoyable experience to come with friends and dance. Jimmy Eat Wednesday events are so much fun!
This is the most racist experience I have ever had in my life in a place that considers themselves inclusive. They declined a person purely due to her pronunciation of her Mexican European heritage and an accent. It is shameful as any place to treats any human in such a dismissive way. I am ashamed to have to have this interaction from a friend solely due to her race. Her and my experience were indefinite racism. I thought as a city we were better but sadly this is not true.
Favorite dance club ever. Yes it’s a grimy so don’t wear nice shoes. But there are 3 spots really to Barbs: inside main area, outside area, and Swan Dive. Each is different music and there are bar areas throughout.
I would recommend all people avoid this bar. Overpriced drinks, no draft beers, and aggressive/hostile service. Read on:Well this is the review no one wants to write. I showed up to this bar at night after a very long day of travel. While I waited for friends to show up I drifted off and my beer was taken away. No problem with that at all. However, several hours later, as Id continued to be an awake and attentive social presence, after ordering (please and thank yous) several rounds of water, I was still denied in ordering myself or the bachelor of our bachelor party a drink. I spoke to the bartender, and he said it would look bad on camera if someone sleepy a couple hours ago was later served. I tried to explain that Id like to stay and be an active patron, as if Id just walked in. I was told that he would know I hadnt just walked in so I was not welcome.Flying to Austin from DC on a very early flight left me groggy, and I understand not overserving someone who is falling asleep at the bar. I lose understanding right around the Id remember that you were once tired reeeeaason to refuse service to someone/an extended group for hours and hours, regardless of any updated ascertations. It was very clear I was not falling asleep at the bar. The bartender agreed. However, because Id once been tired, I was not allowed to order myself or anyone else any drinks.
Late Saturday nights at Barbarella are a staple of the city. If you havent closed the night on the dance floor here, you are truly missing something special. The music and scene are unrivaled for channeling the spirit and eclecticism of Austin. Youll see all manner of people celebrating the groove, dancing with fervor, and jointly contributing to the mighty sweat mist that permeates the place. The only takeaway is the crowds entering and at the bars but that same popularity is half the draw. The Tuesgay parties and Thursday Grits n Gravy are also locale favorites if you can afford to be out late during the week.
Honestly I would recommend it if you know what you are getting into and want to have to deal with bullshit all night. Some white dude with dreads said it was his bar and kicked my friend (person of color) out when literally all she was trying to do was find the bathroom. Other than that the music was decent but not great and we did find some freaks who knew where the grungy after party that lasted until 7:30 AM was. So, yeah. Its awful but often times awful can be your scene.
Come here to dance. Thursdays (Grits and Gravy - 50s to 70s) are my favorite. I can always count on dancing to Clearest Blue on Saturday nights. Fridays are for 80s. If you want to grind, go outside. Its got it all.
Honestly lady at the door said I wasn’t fit to enter because I smiled at her and showed my ID and there were several folks in front of me. Hadn’t had a drink for the night yet so not sure what her problem was. Ruined a night for my friends and I.
Last night Saturday the outside dj was amazing every song he played had the crowed going! From new music to oldies! I don’t go out often but this was definitely one of the most funest nights. Def older crowd 25-45yr ish the inside had some alright music but the outside was amazeballs!Read on the not safe place i think if your shy and don’t do good with crowds you will feel like it’s unsafe but if your cool with a crowd you’ll be alright. It does get super packed.
The dance floor was packed but we didnt arrive until after 0130. Maybe its an Austin thing but even after buying drinks you cant get a glass of water. Also strange unisex bathrooms that were not so clean. Guess my age is showing...
This place is an 80s/90s fandom of music and good vibes! Great prices for drinks and if you arrive early enough, you dont need to pay cover! Their are multiple rooms connected to each other so make sure to explore the establishment!
Its a fun place to dance. Especially on Thursday Grit & Gravy nite. It got that high school vibe to it!!!! Sort of like that movie Shes all that Texas style!!! If you dont know anyone...you better off bring friends with you. Unless youre very outgoing and try very hard to be sociable. I dont know anyone that go there. Mostly young crowds in their 20s and 30s. If youre young at ❤ like me...Go for it! You can dancing with your self ( which I do a lot ) like Billy Idols song.
Awesome place to go out. It closes later than the usual clubs, this closes at 3am but the last entrance is at 2am, so be there a little bit early. Great for dancing and the outside patio is very cool!
Eh. Till around midnight. Then it was poppin. Pre stamp to save a buck and cut threw the line.( we arrived with a party of 10) Restrooms were a bust with broken locks, one missing toilet seat ,dark lighting and lack of tp. ( its a busy club and understandable) The bartenders are spot on with drinks and shot portion evenness. Outside patio might need some extra seating around the perimeter. All around great night.
Good dance scene, line is a little long but its just cause theres tons of people to meet! Outdoor and indoor spaces. (Secret you can enter from outside of the club to the left which usually has shorter lines)
Careful what days you go. Some are free before 10:30 some are not. This should list there events on the front. Definitely can be managed better. You’ll have a good time.
Love their events, however do not drink here I do not think they clean their bars properly and I always get super sick even if I have just one or two drinks.
An austin staple. Dark dance floor, cheap drinks, multiple stages. Where I learned to dance in my younger days. Grits and gravy (50s, 60s, 70s, 80’s) night is a must.
A group of my girlfriends visited Austin for the first time this past weekend. There were 7 of us- and were very excited to spend our late night at this club. Our IDs were checked by a very unfriendly bouncer.- half of us then received a bracelet by a women and entered, however- She looked at my sister and said “she is not allowed in”. We were completely baffled. We were well dressed and not acting inappropriate. My sister had made a comment to me about the bouncer needing to be nicer- so we assume it had something to do with that? But we never got an explanation from the women, and she wouldn’t let me in to go get the rest of our friends so we could all leave. Basically this place has a huge chip on the shoulder. They lost business from 7 ladies looking to have a good time. Definitely their loss, not ours- we had a fabulous time at several other bars!
Pretty fun place! Had a $5 cover on Tuesday which had a themed night. Lots of rooms to explore. Bartenders were nice to all the tipsy people😅. Definitely going back.
Fun time on a Tuesday, but had my iPhone stolen out of my ZIPPED purse on the dance floor. Not their fault but also crappy that those kind of people frequent this place. HUGE damper on an otherwise fun night.
Didnt have food bur had a blast drinking and dancing.
Fun place , nice music, and friendly bartenders . Weed should not be allowed inside the dance floor because it stinks. Also , the door men probably need to get laid, say thank you or smile once in a while because if it wasnt us customers you will have no job.
This place is known to many as “Barbs” this place is........interesting. I have indeed been many times, especially in my “heyday.” Ha. There are different “themed” nights, such as “Tuesgayz” where it’s mainly LGBTQ+ community, but still all welcome regardless. And then they have retro night, as well as others. Jimmy Eat Wednesdays on like....the first(?) Wednesday of the month which is basically emo music from the 2000’s. Regardless, this place gets PACKED. And stays open until 3 or so if you get there in time. Alcohol has to go at 2, but, extra time to dance, and for many, trying to find some one-night-stand. A big open back area that connects it to Swan Dive, where bands play (including mine, ha.) But yes Barbarella is that dingy-yet-happening dance club where you will get sweaty, dance and possibly find that special someone. 😂 They used to sell bottles of champagne; I would always buy one and share. They don’t do that anymore, I’m assuming due to lots of broken glass on the dancefloor that would be so hard to clean while people are drunkenly dancing to the kick drum. But yes, for the most part, I’ve enjoyed this place. It’s just...”one of those places.” Gritty, sweaty, nasty, but sometimes in all the right ways
This place is probably my favorite spot to go out to dance. Every night of the week is themed with a genre of music--Im partial to Saturdays, New Noize, because they play familiar, fun, indie jams. They have a huge back patio with bars, food trucks, and a dj. It can get pretty crowded and hot, but I think thats the point.
Indoor themed nights as well as an outdoor dance floor. One of the only places you can count on that people will be dancing and that there will be toilet paper in the bathroom. Drinks are ok but dancing is a blast.
This is such a great fun video bar with an indoor dj spinning edm or 80s on weekends, and hip-hop outdoors. Cheap drinks and the go-to for all Austin locals trying to stay out to 2:30am. Always enjoy
Visited on a night where we had a broad mix of high energy hits from the 60s and 70s music along with their music videos playing on TVs around the room. Kind of grungy and dark inside, but the energy in the room was great. There is some limited seating at the bar. There were TVs showing a super strange movie from the 60s all around the dance floor, and every once in while I would look at the people I was with and wed share a look that said, WTF are we watching? It actually just helped with the vibe. Overall, was lots of fun.Loss of a star because while the drinks are cheap, they werent that great and Im bougie. #nolongeracollegestudentNote: Dont forget your ID! Lots of college students come here so they are strict about having photo ID.
LOVE barbz... I go here all the time. Of course people have had bad experiences, it’s a kind of grungy dance club. But for all my friends and me, it’s consistently a great time. If you want to dance and make out on the dance floor— yes barbz!
This place has one of the best dance floors in Austin if you are looking to dance to a bunch of music videos with good lights. I also like the more affordable drinks. Great job guys!
Do you like Indie/Techno music? Do you like to dance? Do you like to sweat your ass off? Then this place is for you. This place is so much fun with a large group of friends. Drink prices are great but I normally stick with a Lonestar anyway.
Bar service is good. Some customers are rude, wanting service before others. Those are usually the complainers. They wave in the bartenders face while they are making drinks. Then get mad when the bartender tells them to wait their turn.
The music, the music, the 80s music! I finally made it here to dance and had a blast. The floor upstairs is really sticky (don’t wear flip flops a’la me) and the scene isnt quite as fun, so stick to the pit downstairs unless you want some solitude and hepatitis C. Definitely a place to BYO friends and wiggle your hips.
Barbarellas hosts one of my favorite nights of the month (Jimmy Eat Wednesday) so they automatically get five stars. Barbarellas can be very hit or miss so do your homework and figure out what event is happening before you go. They plays mostly 90s/2000s music on the weekend and the place gets packed out after 11p. The dance floor, lighting, and sound system are good. Drinks are reasonably priced as well.
This place needs closure. The goods times were way long ago when the bartenders were actually decent humans and the hipster hype was manageable. The place in unbearable now and they clearly love it that way. End the bad vibes please! Enough is enough hah
Pop punk heaven on wednesdays. Nice bartenders and fun crowd of young people. EDIT: occasionally they have bouncers that are a-holes, so watch out for that. one bouncer couldnt tell the difference between the issue and expiration date on my license. he refused me entry, claiming by pointing at the ISSUE date that my license was expired. when I pointed it out he started yelling to the crowd that I tried to make a fake to get in, inciting some other random people in line and around to yell at me also. That was pretty messed up and made me feel unsafe. HIRE BOUNCERS THAT CAN READ :) Ive gotten in since, because my license is valid. I dont know why I still give this place my money after that. I just want to see my friends and they all go here.
We went on a Tuesday (5 men) and didnt know it was Tuesgayz, so when we arrived at 1:00 it was very very crowded. Its the perfect place to twerk, but maybe not to dance, since most of it is electronic music.
Ive never wanted to jam to 80s pop so hard. The main dance floor gets absolutely packed, but the patio out back and adjacent club are all connected so you get three experiences at one place.
The worst service ever I don’t recommend anyone to visit at all. I was treated with a disrespectful attitude and when I tried to talk with the manager he was disrespectful as well. I don’t know how what customer service they have but they hit me and kicked me out even tho all I was trying to do is to talk to the manager. To all woman out there never visit this place you might get hit or insulted.
Music, people, drinks, service, everything was awesome except the place really needs some air circulation! Such a nice place but it was so hot. Bathrooms also need some care guys.I also loved the videos playing on screens
I visited this place mid december 2021 and while it was good I came to recognise that I have been charged approx £500 at this bar (1 transaction). Spoke to my bank who told me that this transaction was forced through by Barbarella without me knowing. Do not trust this fraudalent place and if you do decide to visit then keep a really close eye on your bank statements afterwards.
Fun bar. What’s with the cash only at the door? What year are we in? Also, the coat check in lady takes Venmo, but the front only takes cash, and then the bar actually takes credit card. Seems like shady tax evasion. Some of the bouncers are a joke. But, other than the annoying cash only and weird form of payments, the music is good.
Hollie is the best bartender you will ever have! She’s the sweetest and is super quick to give you the best drink you’ll ever have! Definitely recommend going to her above everyone else!
When Obi-Wan Kenobi used the line you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy to describe Mos Eisley, he actually was talking about Barbarella. Ive been to plenty of dive bars and dirty music venues, but somehow Barbs puts all others to shame. I think its safe to say that one never starts the night out planning on going to Barbs. It just happens. And then you wake up the next day wondering how your shoes got so dirty and then cringe about how many layers of grim must be on that dance floor. If youre going to come here, try swinging by around 10pm to get your hand-stamped so you can avoid the chaos after midnight. Or just sneak in via the neighboring Swan Dive that shares a backyard area.Drinks are dirt cheap. You can get a bottle of Champagne to carry around for like $12 and everyone will be amazed that you have it.Hopefully you like listening to The Cure.
At the end of the night the alleged DJ walks up to me from behind, where he felt it was appropriate to thrust his pelvic area into my gluteus maximus! When he didnt get the response in which he was hoping for, the Alleged DJ proceeded away from the main bar area. After going around a wall, he told nonvisable staff that he was being harassed. At that same time, a friend and I were already proceeding forward towards the main entrance. I believe that was the worst service I have ever received at any bar not to mention the money I spent on a tab with a friend there!! One of the most disgusting experiences Ive ever had in my entire life happened on that night
Does anyone know if they accept a Paper ID?LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Barbarella!Cheap $3.00 cover on Saturday nights, a beer variety, and amazing music both inside and outside.I have never been on a night other than Sat but Im confident that the place is great any night.Im still wondering if Barbarella has drink specials as well?If youre ever in San Antonio check out Brass Monkey, same owner if Im not mistaken.Same atmosphere just smaller bar. Sunday night $2.00 you call it, .75 wells on Thursdays, great DJs ALWAYS!
Famous BBQ in Austin! Arrived at 11:30am and waited two hours for food. Little did we know that you can pre-order online for just a few bucks more and avoid the wait altogether. Either way, get there early as they sell out of meat fast.
Flawless energy and crowd. So diverse and fun.
What happened to Thursdays Motown Night? What happened to the good DJ that used to play every Thursday and actually played Motown music? Thursdays were awesome, now its just a cluster of oldies played to drunk young college kids. Fridays and Saturdays are better and yes, Barbarella is still the best and only place to dance in Austin but they need to improve their DJ on Thursdays.
It has a special place in my heart for taking touristy friends to show them an overwhelmingly populated party with hipster costumes wall to wall but its impossible to deny how fun the dance floor can be when accompanied by the right friends. Glitorous keeps tuezgays packed and the space itself seems to have a consistent draw.
I’ve been here a few times and have always given in the “trashy but fun-ish rating”. However, my friend and I tried to go here tonight and after I was let in, she was denied access. We were both sober (having had maybe a drink in the last hour) and acting normal. The real issue began when we asked the bouncers why she wasn’t let in. Seems like a normal question, right? One bouncer said he got his orders “from god” when I asked him why she hasn’t been let in, and another called us dumbasses for asking and screamed in our face (yeah, 250 pound dude against 2 women, what hot stuff). In my job, if I talked to people that way, I certainly wouldn’t have it anymore. Seems like a couple of pathetic guys taking it out on the women in line to get off. Won’t be going again.
Very aggressive dance party on the weekend nights, smoke and lights, great music, multiple floors/rooms with whatever music youre looking for. Probably best to arrive a bit intoxicated or it can be overwhelming..
Barbarellas is a fantastic bar/dance in in the heart of Austin. They are many themed nights throughout the week and month that are highly noteworthy and a ton of fun!! Usually, their Tuezgays night every Tuesday is one of the most happening things to do in downtown Austin on almost any given Tuesday night. Also, the Jimmy Eat Wednesday Emo Night on the first Wednesday of every month is an absolute blast!! It will make you a fan of that music even if you never were! I couldnt recommend it any more!
Always a high energy spot to dance. Good vibes, great DJ, fun videos and lighting. They have a rare coat check and self serve water.
Best dance bar in Austin. Have $5 cover charge, cash only but totally worth it. The music is always good and the place is lit on weekends
My favorite spot to dance in Austin. Love that you can choose between hip hop (outside) and 80s/electro (inside). Be prepared to dance your a$$ off and sweat a lot doing it!
So the bouncer didnt let me know even though Im 31? He thought my ID was fake. I sent a private message to the page on Facebook, and they didnt even reply. Im assuming that whoever is in charge doesnt care about potential customers that are ADULTS and want to consume inside of the place. Thanks God I will never get my business there anymore.
Great place for dancing. Grungy and super laid back vibe. Drinks are reasonably cheap, spacious inside with a backyard as well. $5 cover
Barbarellas music is usually great! They also stay open an hour later than the other bars. A lot of the times it can get too packed to the point everyones dancing sweat is all over you.
First bar I’ve ever been denied access to for being Mexican in Austin. Would not recommend, save money and go somewhere else.
If I could give less than 1 star I would. $5 cover when the bar next door had no cover at all. Ridiculous. Don’t go to this bar. You can get the same drinks at the same bar next door with no extra fee. Plus, confederate flags are tacky.
Love Barbs seriously. We have a Meetup that we bring to Barbs, because we are guaranteed fun, good dancing and a safe space. The owner and workers are all very nice.
FIRST TIME HERE, we had a blast. Diverse crowd with all ages. We will definitely be back!
Best place to listen to 80s New Wave! Great dance floor and Hip Hop out back in the patio. Every Friday is the 80s music. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
Great place in ATX to work up a sweat and get your dance on with 2 dancefloors, one inside and one outside. The music was bumppin and the people were into it, overall awesome dance environment.(The smell of weed doesnt hurt either lol 😎).
I never have a positive experience here. I am never served a drink. I can see the bartender overlooking me, and serving others. I have had that experience 4 times, that I end up leaving. Truly a trash location.
Fun place to dance. On Jimmy Eats Wednesday, there are a lot of teenagers. Beware if you dont like that kind of thing. If you do like teenagers, thats cool too.
Dance floor was great, crowd for the most part was great, the two female bartenders were maybe the worst Ive had to deal with. Service was terrible but overall atmosphere was alright. Left such a bad taste in my mouth though so, one star. Good job girls!
If Im out late on Tuesday night, Im probably at Barbs. If you live in Austin, and you are out late on Tuesday night, you are probably at Barbs. Lots of people, music and dancing inside and outside. At least in my experience, the people who hang here are the most approachable and friendly people at any bar downtown.
So much fun! Barbarella makes you want to dance your heart out. They play an awesome variety of music. Be prepared to get really, really, really hot dancing like crazy with a huge crowd of people.
Me and my boyfriend always have a great time here! We come here to dance not to drink because the booze is yucky if it aint in a bottle.
Good music but the female bartender there (never got her name) is super rude. Why she got a job interacting with lots of people is beyond me.
Music is great. I love the dance floor. But when Im tired of dancing I like to hang out on the back patio where theres never a line at the bar.
Would recommend to anyone on a Friday or Saturday. On a Tuesday, no. We flat out got ignored by the bartender for 45 minutes. Usually, I love this place. Now, not so much.
Best dance club in Austin. Thursday nights (Motown) and Saturday (todays hits) are the best. They also do Tues-gays, Jimmy Eat Wednesdays, and 80-90s Fridays
MEH, Many told me about Barbarella since I am fairly new to the Austin area and I have got to say, I am a bit disappointed. Barbarella is decent, I mean 80s night is pretty much the only night worth going, even though there is sometimes a line on the weekends, but only a fraction of those people actually dance. I can tell Barbarella used to be a better spot but from what I see, its dwindling... I will definitely still check it out to see if that changes.
Great place. Definitely my end of the night bar! Get in before 2 and you can dance till 3 most of the time
It’s Friday night, Luther Vandross just transitioned to New Order, you’re boogieing with a beautiful woman, the drinks are flowing and you know in your heart that there is much trouble in this world, but not in this place
Young crowd, sometimes hipster-esque. The DJs usually play alternative/ACL/SXSW popular indie and electronica, like LCD Soundsystem, Robyn, Arcade Fire, Grimes, Justice, etc. Upstairs, I have heard anything from NSync to Spice Girls-- old skool hits! The venue itself is kind of dingy, but the crowd is fun-loving and not too shy to dance. The drinks are cheap, the bartenders are pretty attentive, and there is a large screen where an accompanying music video plays with the tracks. The bathrooms could be better. Lots of food trucks nearby.
My favorite club in Austin! Loved Friday nights specially. 80s music. Everyone is very chill and nice. No attitude at all!
Its a very fancy place! Wear your best shoes!
Barbs has really degraded over the years. Maybe its just lost appeal to me personally, but it seems like the crowd has diminished as well. The backyard DJ draws a much bigger audience, and thats kind of devolved into a narcissistic pageant show. Cheer Ups doesnt have the sweaty basement aesthetic but I think were past that in 2019 anyway.
I loved this place! I went for Tuesgays and there was great music and great energy. I loved the lights and how they move along with the music and how the bar is separated from the dance floor so there’s there’s no pushing and shoving.
Cheap drinks, the crowd and nice staff make the place a four star spot. The times I have gone were very big retro dance nights(Tues.).
When asked what my hearing impaired friend wanted to drink, he told the only female bartender I want a rum and diet & a lone star she repeated the order to him x4. She took it as he was drunk. I came into the picture mid way and explained that hes hearing impaired. She didnt care and instead called a guard to have us removed from the establishment. I literally almost fought a guard over my friend . I am extremely disappointed after spending over 100 dollars on drinks at this place. its funnny because my friend actually has his TABC bartending license and understands the standards. That girl needs some retraining ASAP.
Barbarella....ohhhhh Barbarella. I hope you like smoke machines and shoulder-to-shoulder crowds, because this place has a monopoly on both of these. This is an 80s-blasting hipster gravity well, with overpriced drinks and more drunk kids in bad glasses than a Matt & Kim show. That being said, just stop caring and go dance in the lasers to David Bowie. Its actually pretty fun.
Went to visit a friend in Austin and she brought our group of friends here to dance on a Saturday night! Being from NYC theres no shortage of dance spots but Barberella set itself apart as an indie dance hall, with music videos streaming from every angle from the dance floor and a stage where any and all were welcome to dance all night with no judgement (honestly, I saw a guy in a Kilt here dancing his heart out like he had no reservations in the world!). Prepare for close intimate crowd contact and strobe lights that will make you feel like youre living your best life in a Dua Lipa music video. I mainly stayed near the front main dance area but its my understanding is that it goes a lot further back and there are other areas to explore. All in all, if youre looking to wail out with your friends or just wanna get your groove on, then look no further than Barberella! Extra points for playing the original Barberella movie on repeat from surrounding screens all over the place.
Really good bar. It can get a little packed but it has a nice outdoor area that is good. Has different areas that play their own music independent of each other.
My friends and I got physically assaulted at Barbarella’s and then kicked out for reporting him. It would be nice if there were even one safe space for trans people in Austin
Fun place. Atmosphere is great. Bathroom space isn’t the best but it’ll do 😅
On weekends 80s dance music inside and 90s gangster rap outside. You will love/hate yourself for going to Barbarella (Barbs). Its usually $5 cash only cover and it connects to the Swan Bar next door. Dont bring your drinks to the dance floor they will spill.
I lovr this place on certain days! Some nights are more fun than others. Tuesgayz happens to be one of my favorite nights here. Good crowd, good mix, low judgement.
I love barbs. Its a great place to end the night and dance because they stay open until 3am after the bars close. Highly recommended!
The drinks were a little watered down, and when I went to the bathroom there was NO TOILET PAPER, I would suggest stacking extra rolls in each stall. Other than that it was a cool place.
80s Night is Classic. I graduated in 1984, so many good memories. And songs I dont remember or missed! Good Times!
Never have I wanted to give a business a zero, but, I so wish I could now. My son has Type 1 diabetes and was at Barbarellas last night with his girlfriend. His blood sugar was dropping very quickly and needed sugar immediately. I know this as I have real time blood sugar values for my son as he wears a continuous glucose monitor and I have remote follow on my iPhone as well as my Apple watch from anywhere in the US. I have also been a healthcare provider for over 30+ years having seen thousands of patients living with diabetes. The staff of Barbarellas would not listen to my son or his girlfriend that he needed some Coke due to having very low blood sugar. He was lethargic and disoriented. The staff of Barbarellas kicked him out as it was their determination that he was drunk and disruptive. Wouldnt believe him and put his life at risk even after he showed them his insulin pump tethered to his body. As his father I am absolutely outraged. As a doctor I am outraged. This place needs to be hit with an ADA lawsuit, no question. It is an absolute joke that this place markets itself as inclusive. It is the opposite, close-minded staff that are extremely rude and uncaring. DO NOT ALLOW DISCRIMINATION AS THIS. BOYCOTT GOING HERE AND VISIT THE MULTIPLE OTHER ENTERTAINMENT VENUES IN AUSTIN INSTEAD. Boycott for your family or friends affected by diabetes as it is the right thing to do. I am at a conference in Minneapolis and my son called me at 1:30 in the morning from outside Barbarellas so very upset. He felt so violated. Luckily, the business next door immediately helped them and avoided a serious medical emergency. I will personally go in to Barbarellas when I am down in Austin come the first week of April, I will voice my displeasure as a father and provider. For my son and anyone else who has felt discriminated against, PLEASE, dont give this place any further business. An absolute awful place that deserves to be closed down. Maybe an ADA lawsuit will give them a wake up call?
Okay; where am I? How could cover charge be $3...oh look its the random guy who bought me a shot! Hey mate whered your friends go? Why is it so smokey in here...damn lost again. What kinda music is this? Its like the Fresh Prince had sex with regular Prince. Man I am thirsty who just grabbed me ass? This €5 Lonestar tastes like heaven. Oh my God the air outside is at least 100% less smoky than inside. #ILoveAustin. Is that Nick C.? (everyone in here looks like Nick C)...2am What do mean time to go?! I have been Euro Training bro. Wowzers this Philly Cheese Steak from Grub House (with Richard discount) is dope.
In general I dislike clubbing. Like ALOT. But my friends dragged me here and I found myself having a decent time. With the recent reports of them bashing a transgender and deleting comments off their FB Im a little less inclined to revisit until I know the issues are solved, but as a club in and of itself I liked it.
Many of my friends have been drugged here and the business does absolutely nothing when multiple concerns are voiced besides attempt to cover it up and block the victims. This is not a safe place and Id advise you all to go somewhere else, Barbarella Austin does not care about your safety.
Was in here Friday night and now I have 100 dollars in charges from them for 4 Jack and cokes! They had a problem with their pos system that night and claimed they couldnt close my tab well apparently theyre still racking up the bill!!! Disputing, disputing, disputing!
This is a pretty cool place to go on Friday nights! You have to wait until about 11 pm though because before that it is pretty dead. A good place to go with a group of people!
Love this place! Went to the one in Portland, OR and just had to check this one out. Can say I was not disappointed at all (other than having a girl try to pickpocket my friend and I)
One 80’s Room, one Hiphop room, one Rock room: great music, always a good time. $5 cover. (They’re Tequila shots are deathly though)
My favorite bar in Austin. Great place to meet people. Staff is friendly, and the vibe is everyone belongs. Really cool spot.
Its an iconic dirty dance bar where folks actually dance. Different music every night. Not a high end place but worth the visit.
Me and wife approach one female bartender and I just wave at her so she can see me because it was really crowded, well the female bartender ignores me all time and for second time I try to call for her attention and she yelled at me STOP !! Very DISRESPECTFUL! Actually iThe female bartender is located at the main entrance bar! Very disappointed with her bad attitude. I left the bar.
Its a club you can dance in sorta. If you like people younger than you bumping into you and spilling their drinks on you, then go here. At least you avoided dirty six.
Such a fun atmosphere, the dj was not djing tho, rather just pressing play on the next track once the first one is done. But the songs were fun either way!
Love it!!! Barbs in Austin is so much fun compared to Houstons Barbs! The crowd on Friday for 80s night is fun. People singing.
I mean, do you give a 1 star review because the doorman was a total piece of ____t.Or do you practice good karma and rate 5 hoping maybe one day you get to see this place
Do not go here lol! Legit so many other amazing places to go. Legit avoid here. Terrible vibes, did not look out for girls, cover fee, drunk Dj, legit just avoid this place
Used to be the best bar in Austin. Now drinks are over-priced, staff is annoyed and theres always a cover. Even on a Tuesday...
Love this place ! Outdoor area is full of people dancing and great music! 80s nights on Friday. A mix of everyone. Great place ♡
I miss this spot so much! I have loved Barbs since moving to Austin. I love how they provide a fun space for our community with Tues Gays and Emo Night
Drinks are over priced, but its a great dance scene. Most attractive night is tuezgays which is the gay party scene night, but all are welcome.
If you’re trying to have a chaotic night in the best way possible, look no further. I encouraging withdrawing cash and leaving your debit card and dignity at home.
I always have fun, no matter what night I go. I recommend drinking before you get there because the bar is always packed.
Went there on a Saturday night. Place is usually packed and gets too hard to order drinks. Good enough music
Great layout. Inside/outside with multiple bars. Great dance club, floor is usually full and everyone having a great time!
Its not flashy but I had an amazing time here. Plenty of pretty people and fun, current music mixed in with some classics.
Great late night drunk destination. 80s / 90s music on the dance floor, hip-hop/rap out back, always busy. Pretty dirty
