What amazing atmosphere! I went here the day before my birthday while on a 20 state road trip. Voodoo was very amazing! I had made contact with them on the phone so when I got there it was like I was meeting up with all of my nephew, as well as other neices and nephews! I happened to get there on the night of the lip sync battle finals. The Queens were amazing! The atmosphere was great! Everybody called me Auntie and they taught me how to flip my fan, then they gave me a fan!

Went to the drag show for the first time for my birthday and had a blast! It was so much fun and it was my first “big bar” experience. Food was great, drink was great (I’m not a big drinker, fishbowl drink was so good), the “queens?” were so much fun and came up to my family to talk for a bit. Highly recommend going here and will definitely want to come back! 10/10!

We were welcomed with open arms pretty early in the evening after struggling to find a place to go on a Saturday evening- I havent been out in years. My friend ordered a fishbowl and its so adorable I had to snap a picture. Great music, beautiful people (inside and out), and a safe space. Food was fun and entertaining. The entertainers we on point and amazing. Thanks for making my night out fun and enjoyable.

Love this place! Amazing gay bar, fantastic and fun shows like comedy shows and drag shows, beautiful outdoor patio in the bar, plenty of seating, 2-3 bars, and the silent disco downstairs is one of my FAVORITE things to do in Salt Lake City, hands down. The bartenders and fun and they have a crazy and fun drink menu. Cannot recommend this place enough.

This was so fun! I wish I lived here so I could do this more often!Everyone was really cool and made sure everyone knew what the rules were and what was up. I only had one drink, but it was really good. My gf had a couple and they both tasted really good. We ordered food and it came out so fast! The food was good, I had the chicken fried steak, which also came with eggs and a biscuit. I was definitely full enough that I didnt want to ask my gf if she was gonna finish her waffle. The show was AWESOME. Everyone was such an amazing entertainer, it made for a great time! I was kind of nervous because Ive never really been to something like this before, so I felt rather out of my element, but once it got started I had a blast. The venue is small, but that means no bad seats! And all the performers were great, a few talked with us before the show started so that we had kind of a one on one on how things worked. If you want more to eat or drink, you can raise your hand to alert staff and theyll take care of you. They have 2 bathrooms, which were all gender bathrooms. The one I went to had one stall and 2 or 3 urinals. Theres also a patio for smoke/vape breaks. They also have a cash exchange so you can get ones to tip performers, including bundles of 20. You can get up and exchange for more during the show or at intermission.I would 1000% do this again, I wish I could see the lip synch battles and other events!

Since WHYKIKI opened I have attended dozens of Drag Shows and special events. The atmosphere, food and service have always been amazing. I have been to Drag Shows in multiple countries and cities around the world and can honestly say I have seen the best shows here in SLC, Utah at WhyKiki. There have been a couple of times I made errors on reservations for Sunday Drag Shows and the management has been more than accommodating. The bar and wait staff do a great job even on their busiest days! During Pride Week I have gone to WhyKiki the last two years, even though I had to wait in line longer than usual I was still able to get drinks pretty quickly!💚💛🧡❤️💙

I have been hearing about this place for awhile now and finally got to go with some of my girlfriends. Atmosphere was great, drinks were great (a little pricey but so is every cocktail in slc) the bartender was awesome too (unfortunately I don’t remember her name) everything was going great until this random guy would NOT leave us alone… then he and a few of his guy friends proceeded to sit by us, not leave us alone and then got vaguely aggressive when we tried politely to let them know we weren’t interested. Why do I bring this up? Because without asking, this man named Sam I believe, who worked for the bar quietly pulled me aside and asked me if me and my friends were ok, and if we knew these guy(s). He was the same man who checked us at the door and was so observant even inside the bar and took the initiative to covertly, without a scene take care of this uncomfortable situation by asking my table if we were ready to “head to our reserved seating” separating my group from these men without any problems. So professional, and appreciated. All in all, big fan of this place!

It was $64 for the table for 4 for the drag and dinner. We ordered food, which there was a good amount, and I love the P3nis themed items, makes it fun, but the chicken fingers had no seasoning and slightly tasted like cardboard, then the waffles in the fun shape were just basic, slightly tasted like pancake mix to me, which I know is basically the same thing. The show was good, it was the almost famous, It was funny as our buddy kept trying to dance with each of them and they gave him NO time of day hahaha, apparently these drag girls dont like men haha. It was a good different experience, not sure Id go back, not really our crowd or scene, and there is no sugar free redbull or non sugary drinks, which we know were all on a diet so that dont work...haha

With the Closure of Bottoms Up, the city lost a truly unique venue. However, clearly Randy Oveson was not to be DENIED!!! Randy opened up Why KiKi on 1st South just off of Main on May 1, 2021. The bar has some cool island based decor items including a tribute to One-Eye’d Willy in the back patio. Speaking of the patio, what a cool spot, gravel lined, the patio continues the island motif outside for folks to relax and connect. Inside there is your (anything but) normal bar areas. One of these contains a stage that supports a variety of events and acts hosted at Why KiKi. There are also several small private areas for small groups to enjoy. On Sundays KiKi serves up a delicious brunch and one of a kind Drag Show. Our group descended upon the servers Claudia, and Eli like a bunch of vultures. They did a great job pouring Pink Starfish, fishbowls and a full array of local beers and keeping up with the demand. We want to thankRandy again for being such a great host.

Love the silent disco, but some of the staff is straight up rude. Maybe y’all tell people when they call asking about the place, tell them there is a cash only cover so they don’t show up unprepared? Went to the (halloween version) drag show and it was fantastic and so lovely and fun. The vibes at the place were fantastic and I would definitely go again. However, they don’t tell you that you are charged auto gratuity until after you check your phone (for the itemized receipt) so I tipped $40 on my card for the auto gratuity and then another $40 in cash due to the machine/our server not letting us know. Ended up tipping $80 on a $200 tab. So I wish there had been some indication of that but yk.

It had a great atmosphere and tasty drinks but with a $10 cover fee that I didnt know about until I was in the door and then a $17 cocktail I felt nickel and dimed. The onstage performance was spectacular and with 2 areas separated from the main tables and stage I was pretty impressed.I found it strange that the smoking patio is covered but that would likely be due to rugs and upholstered furniture. The staff feel a bit like salespeople with their recommendations being on the pricey side, Id say new bar-goers beware and to people with the extra cash, Id easily raise this to 5 starsFor those without the cash, you can find drinks 1/3rd of the price at other bars without cover fees.

My friends and i went to why kiki for the first time tonight. Being the only one in my group with cash, i paid the regular guy at the front my cover while my friends went to a separate lady who took venmo. the venmo lady turned my friends away saying they “looked too drunk” and wouldn’t let them in. i asked the venmo lady that since my friends couldn’t get in and we’re leaving, can i get my cover back because i’m not staying at the bar alone (buddy systems are essential to keep girls safe on nights like these!) she said that it shouldn’t be an issue and to talk to the cash man. when i tried to tell him the situation, he responded with “this is just like a concert, once you pay you don’t get it back.” i’m sorry but i wasn’t even in why kiki for 5 minutes because they turned the rest of my group away, you’d think i could at the very least get my cover back since i hadn’t even left the front entrance way. i would understand if it was just a regular $10 cover like normal bars, but $30 to get into a bar is ridiculous if you didn’t get to experience the bar at all. unfortunately our first impression of why kiki was not great.

I never leave bad reviews. But after last night I have to. First, drag bingo was awesome! BUT — the bartenders. Ugh. Have they ever bartended before? Like, ever? I asked what kind of wine they had. The gal rattled off some options, but some of them were not even wine. She then follows it up with “we have other white and BLACK wines.” What is she even talking about? I then order a glass. Already a very small glass, and she only fills it half way. Just a bit more than a shot! Does she know the difference between liquor, beer and wine?? Who is hiring these folks, let alone training? And don’t ask for a neat whiskey. You will have it shaken with ice (witnessed that while ordering my wine). For the amount they charge for drinks ($12 for Makers!) they should at least hire people that know what they are doing. This was my 2nd time here, and I just can’t go back. Love watching (and tipping very well) at the drag shows. Amazing! But I work too hard for my money. The bar situation is awful. Please. Hire people that know what they are doing. Or TRAIN them. They are just kids that have no idea what they are doing. Black wine? Please, tell me. What is that? And getting a possible pour of 2-3 ounces?!?! I know we are in Utah. But that is 2-3 ounces less than a legal pour. I will stick to my local neighborhood pubs where they actually care if I come back. So disappointing.UPDATE; Just noticed the owner or management reply. First, I was not part of a “group”. There were 2 of us. Except when we ordered our drinks we did not talk to anyone in the establishment and certainly not about our experience. But I will say it again - the show was awesome. Your bartenders, not so much. If you are going to be rude to people that leave you an honest review, lying on top of that does not do you any favors. But, looking at your other comments, it’s not surprising. I’ll gladly take my money and see shows at Verse.

Went here for a crowdsource comedy show which was pretty terrible. The bartender was nice but our server tried to rip us off $15 until I called her on it at the end of the show. The decor and ambiance is pretty awesome and it looks like the silent disco would be a lot of fun so Ill probably go back at some point. I am however pretty disappointed that before I went I messaged the company twice asking if they had any vegan menu items and they never responded. In case anyone else is wondering, they have chips and salsa, fries and a beyond burger but Im not sure if the bun is vegan. The drinks are in fun glasses with fun names but they are overpriced and watered down

10/10 EVERYONE should go to this bar. The bartenders are hilarious and so sweet, the drag queens and kings are PHENOMENAL. It is an extremely safe place whether you are LGBTQ+ or straight. For most of my life I have struggled to find a safe place to express my identity without being shunned, especially as someone who is in a hetero relationship. My fiance came with me multiple times and has had SO MUCH FUN! Thank you Why Kiki for not only being an amazing bar, but also a safe place for many. 💚

Really fun vibe, with cute bartenders and good service. I love that there are so many different little spaces: the dance floor/stage if youre feeling bouncy, the tables around the corner if youre feeling chatty, the patio out back. It all had a really organic feel to it, and the crowd was good. Drew a really diverse mix of people, and I think everyone felt welcome there. Average age was probably 30-35, so it was also a little bit of a chiller vibe, which I really enjoyed. Drinks were pretty average in terms of cost (maybe slightly above?) but service was really good. Will definitely go back!

There was Drag karaoke, which I could not resist, and the crowd was so welcoming and supportive. I found myself wishing I didnt have to leave for my flight. This is such a fun bar! Ive only been a few times, but its always great. The drag show we went to here was a good time.I will say though, dont buy tickets online without calling them first to confirm. We ended up paying for a table a few days in advance for my friends birthday and found out when we got there that it was a free show (with cover charge at the door) with no reservations on tables. I guess they had a glitch or something on their website where we bought the tickets. However, the manager and security guy made it right and found us a table.I recommend parking at the West City Creek parking garage. Also, inside they have a coat check room for $2 where you can Venmo if you dont have cash.

I love the space and the vibe. Very large inside. Well-decorated. The back porch is great. Friendly staff. Havent tried the food yet but I hear its fine. Super glad they do karaoke. One *huge* downside though: The drinks are crazy expensive. $12-$16 for signature cocktails, Steins are $8+. I suppose that because their space is as large as it is and being so centrally-located their rent requires prices that high. Still, the drink prices are definitely high enough that I doubt I can make this place a regular hang-out; more of a special occasion location. Also, I feel like I see six-plus staff members bopping around but most of the time I need a drink there is one bartender and half the time it takes ten-plus minutes. Not every time, but it certainly happens. I know its a new bar but it feels weird to have this happen. Id be happy to amend my review if these things improve, but it seems there are some growing pains for this cool new bar.

First of, I love it here. The drags are amazing (Im a former drag). Buut my review is particularly for their Halloween costume contest on October 29, 2022.They charged a fee at the door, $30 a person. I didnt complain even though it was advertised as free before 10:30pm (seriously). I paid because their costume contest was a price of $2,500. They probably needed money for it.The MC said welp itll be for $1,000 actually and there would be other prices for second to fifth place.Guess who won the contest? Their own employees. This place lost its entire integrity with me.Shame. Now, for the rest:I ordered one drink here and thought it was the most virgin drink ever, even though I ordered a classic Long-Island Tea. I never ordered another drink again. They not only served it in the wrong cup, I tasted more tea then liquor. This drink has 5 liquors. It shouldnt taste like a virgin drink. I was raised by a bartender, he would have went to the back of the bar and showed them the proper way to make it. Hell, I wouldve been happy to show they how to make it.The food, please dont buy it. Come here on a full stomach. Not worth it at all.Silent disco is meh. Not new to me. Where they have it is so uneven its a lawsuit waiting to happen. The owner is really rude. Even one of his employees casually said that while we were smoking at the back patio. The drags are the only thing remaining I love about this place. Theyre amazing, theyre entertaining, and the MC always makes me laugh. I feel bad giving this place 1 star, but that star alone belongs to these amazing folks dragging to save this place.Shame. Shame. Shame.

Why kiki has been my fave club since it opened, even tho cover is more than other similar places and the drinks are expensive. The atmosphere has always been a vibe. Drag brunch is fun and i would recommend going, but on a full stomach like others have said. The reason for my poor review hangs solely on the security. Mike told my party we couldnt get in because of how we were walking, it was 20 degrees out and my sister and I were sharing a scarf for warmth thus walking hip to hip. As my sister who has tracheal cancer and finally got outside for the first time in years, began to speak, mike remarked that her voice parallels that of someone who is intoxicated she showed him a pic of her diagnosis and he still made rude remarks about her voice. Then stated they are only doing this because the DABC was out and patrolling bars that night. Anyway thats the last time ill ever go there. And im sad about that.

So disappointed 😞 Everyone really hyped this place up and I’m not sure why . Definitely not upscale . Everything from the outside decor to the inside looks cheap. Service was slow, drinks are expensive and have way too much sugar it almost made me sick. We sat in the outside lounge and the chairs were so uncomfortable plus the table was so uneven we couldn’t even play the Jenga they provided. Wasn’t even tipsy but the gravel they used had me falling all over the place in my heels. Won’t come back ...Inresponse to the immature owner1. I actually have several reviews that are 3 stars and above. I rate to my experience which is what a customer is supposed to do2. Looking at other reviews left, you seem to only want to rudely respond to customers who have given you a low rating and rarely respond to those who surprisingly like your established.3. The definition of upscale - relatively expensive and designed to appeal to affluent consumers which your bar is not4. It was not my choice to sit outside but rather the only option given to us because several tables were “reserved” so there was not “ample” seating the night my friends and I came.5. We did ask your staff for suggestions and she didn’t seem to know your menu very well so it was left to us to make a decision. Every drink on the menu is full of sugar and has weird combined ingredients. I apologize if I wanted to come to a new bar and try a new drink . Definitely my mistake6. I would have been willing to give your place another try. However, being a business owner there are better ways to approach your customers negative experiences and you did not handle this well . Wishing you all the best !

I normally really like it here, but today as we were standing in front of the doors, my friend pulled out a personal item and the bouncer who was on a smoke break ripped it out of her hands and claimed she stole it. He took it into the bar and wouldn’t give it back. He was incredibly rude (husky, long beard, glasses, wearing a dark hoodie). I think it’s valuable to mention that I’m a licensed security guard for the state of Utah, and I know for a fact that security services are NOT allowed to search or seize anyone’s property against any patron’s will (especially when that person isn’t even in the company’s building…). I understand that it might have looked like something she could have stolen from the bar, but I 100% know for a fact that she didn’t steal it from Why Kiki. (I also don’t know why she brought it with her tonight, but that’s not my business.) Also, the oh so popular phallic waffles are dry, most of their drinks taste terrible, and today someone even lit a firework in the disco downstairs for some reason and the staff didn’t do anything about it. I’ve had both good and bad experiences here, but this last experience really upset me. This is supposed to be “the place for everyone”, but today I didn’t feel like it was a place I could feel welcome or safe at.

I really enjoyed going out here, really friendly staff and a nice environment to hang out. I was waiting for food by myself for a moment and another group invited me to drink with them. The only thing that bugged me was, while the bathrooms are not gender assigned (great stuff, not the problem), it was really uncomfy using a urinal because the doors provide essentially no privacy from anyone walking by the bathrooms, and the material choice for the urinal dividers is, for some reason, completely transparent. If you want privacy, its the stalls or nothing.

Very disappointed with how they handled this whole situation, my mother was trying to get in contact with this establishment as we had a reservation for this coming Saturday July 16th drag brunch, but we got covid and wanted to see if we were able to move our reservation to the following weekend if possible. After a week of not getting a response my mom finally decided to write a review and filed a dispute on her card, hoping that this could get a response from them, however their response was to call my mother entitled and say she didnt call during business hours and that they dont give refunds (we didnt want a refund, just wanted to see if we could move our reservation to the next week) when her phone records show she called at 5:15 PM during the day they were open and left a voicemail, she also had left messages through their Instagram and even emailed them to possibly get a response in time and had gone through every form of contacting them possible with there now being one day left until the brunch. We did receive a refund but with a message saying to never come back (weve never even been there before) it was just very unprofessional and upsetting. I was really looking forward to going as it was a gift for my 21st. Even if they had said no to being able to reschedule, we would have been understanding and okay with that outcome as its understandable if they had it fully booked by now. It was simply due the lack of communication on their part until the last minute and instead of trying to fix the problem, they insult us and pettily gave us a refund. Please do better.

I think Why Kiki missed the mark. The space is HUGE and yet there was no dance floor (too many tables). The outside space had a DJ and the inside didnt. IMO they could put a DJ inside, create a dance floor, and have outside be more chill. While I did enjoy the vibes outside as well as the many offerings of fruity drinks, service took FOREVER (about 20-30 mins to get a drink from our server). Staff was friendly just not overly responsive. I would give this place a second chance if it made some necessary changes, otherwise, I dont recommend it.

Lots of potential here. Great location and fills a niche in SLC. The bar has a lot of fun spaces (stage, private rooms, back patio, downstairs dance room). Its also nice to see a bar thats progressive and LGBTQIA friendly. Im looking forward to coming back to see how the place develops, because there are still a few kinks that need to be worked out.For starters, the menu is overwhelming and filled with a lot of subpar drinks. They need to downselect or at least organize the drink menu better.Running a Tiki Bar (which traditionally have very strong drinks) in Utah is hard with the liquor laws. But some of the drinks could be stronger. Yes, you can only have 2.5 oz of liquor, but you dont need an entire can of Sierra Mist in each drink.Upgrading the ice to some Tiki ice (smaller ice cubes) would also give a more authentic feel, but thats a minor critique.Lastly, I would strongly encourage the owner to get a PR / reputation management service to go through their reviews on Google and Yelp. I read the reviews before coming here and was shocked to see the owner so aggressively attacking negative reviews. There are responses from the owner calling guests liars, calling out their public profile, and giving play-by-plays of their night from camera footage. The owner is right: most of these negative reviews are BS. But a progressive and inclusive bar should be inclusive to everyone and lead by example. The professional response is: Sorry for your subpar experience, we hope you will come back and we can change your opinion.

Crowd sourced comedy 10/10 this is why I go to why kiki! I bought 1 AMF tonight! It was 17 flipping dollars! It costs less at a freaking ski resort. Fricking dumb! I will be going to see crowd sourced again but will not be spending a dime on their drinks!

Utterly tragic. Here right now. Awful service. Hollow atmosphere. People sitting around waiting for drinks and looking sad. Bar tender had massive attitude. Got another round from a table and waiter forgot our order. AND they had a $10 cover charge. For what? Very much wanted this place to be a success but this is third strike. Never again. Sad.

I enjoy this place because of the inclusive mission it has to be open to anyone and everyone. Every time there is a mixed demographic of people coming together to have a good time. This is something our community needs.

This bar was great. Food was good. Service was excellent, the bartenders and servers were very attentive and helped me pick out drinks. And the patio was almost second to none in astetics and comfortability. I wish drinks were a little cheaper but other than that I will definitely be coming back here.

Haven’t even been to Why Kiki, but was browsing the reviews and was astonished at the attitude of the owner. If a customer leaves a 1 star review- it’s the owners job to make it up to them. Not bully them through responses. Would never feel the need to support a company like that. Lost a potential customer just based on the owners responses. Big yikes. I’ll be looking to go elsewhere.

I dont think good tiki drinks are legally possible in Utah. The food and service was great though.

Honestly my third time here and just as bad as the last two times . I been trying to give this place a chance cause they have potential but they’re just half adding everything they do . The service is so awful the food juat as bad and terrible drinks . The only thing they have going for them are the shows and they know that . But Colin if you wanna say your bar/ restaurant put so more work into that too . Literally middle school cafeteria food . It’s sad because almost everyone around us complained it too and I see the same thing on here and the owner just comments petty stuff . Like maybe actually get together and listen to the people that are spending money there and no returning cause of how bad it was . If they didn’t have drag shoes this place would have been closed a long time ago . I look forward to you sweet comment you’ll leave this 😂

Neat little spot. Didnt care for the music and the drinks were weak, but I expect that in Utah. Wish the atmosphere was a little more inviting.
