I recently stayed at this hotel and had a fantastic experience, thanks to the exceptional reception service. From the moment I walked in, the reception staff made me feel welcome and took care of everything efficiently. They were super attentive and always ready to help with any request. I was really impressed with their knowledge of the area and the great recommendations they provided. Overall, the outstanding reception service made my stay truly memorable and enjoyable! Live music, especially on Saturdays night was phenomenal
We went there for a few days vacation, the resort was stunning! I love the rustic Spanish style, it’s luxurious and elegant.Upon arrival, the receptionist was friendly and professional. The room was spacious, clean and organised. However, I felt it’s a bit dusty and my allergies started acting up. Also, the pillows were not too comfortable.Room service was great, concierge (Stephanie) was very helpful and nice. The swimming pool was great, love the service and the location. The place is kids friendly and provide amazing activities for family.Food was good and high-quality, however, not a lot of options.Overall, we are definitely going back, and I recommend this place for family vacation.
Went to a really cool wedding that was hosted here. The staff are the most attentive out of any other wedding venue I’ve ever seen. Food was delicious and everything was pretty well organized. You can’t go wrong if you book this venue for your own wedding!
A fabulous hotel with excellent traditional service. The rooms are very well kept and are very spacious. The hotel welcomed me very kindly and offered great concierge services. I was also surprised to learn that a tailor is also available on site which was great. The location of the hotel is very private and far away from the noise of Del Mar.While the rooms can be expensive, the service and quality is up to par, and it is well worth the experience. I would highly recommend this property to others who wish to have a classic hotel experience.
Historic hotel in a fantastic location. First off, the hotel is historic so you must appreciate that. The grounds and service is amazing, dare I say incredible. Despite its unassuming appearance the hotel is large and lots to do. Several pools, games for kids, tennis, gym, and of course golf. I didn’t golf, but course looks great. The food is really good. I came for business but there were also lots of kids. I think kids would enjoy this resort too if they like pool activities. If you come with family and can swallow the cost, spring for a poolside villa they look really great.
Beautiful property with excellent food at Amaya. They truly care about their guests. One of the few properties in continental USA which stands out for its service. Attention to detail, amenities and activities in the property are out of the ordinary. Loved every moment of our stay here. Thank you so much for an excellent hospitality.
My family had an amazing stay at Fairmont Grand Del Mar this past week! It is luxurious while also being family friendly. My kids (1 and 3) loved exploring the grounds, swimming at the pool, and visiting the horses. The food was great at all the restaurants (albeit expensive), but kids eat for free which was a nice perk. The staff was helpful and friendly. Our room was beautiful, spacious, and clean. The fitness center was great too! I have no complaints other than the parking was a bit overpriced at $70 per day. Overall, we loved our trip and hope to come back someday!
This hotel is fantastic. I booked a weekend here for my husband’s birthday and it didn’t disappoint . Before booking I was a bit nervous about the decor and old school style, however it really works and the hotel is in excellent condition. The rooms are enormous , well maintained and definitely feel like luxury. The bath tub is one of the deepest I’ve seen at a hotel. More importantly our room was actually quiet. We were able to really cut off despite the hotel being at high occupancy. The staff are all very friendly and attentive, nothing is too much trouble. I used the concierge to get some excellent recommendations for food and local activities, they provided me with a lot of detailed information. The lawn area with the wood restaurant is also fab. I would definitely visit again. Thank you for a wonderful stay !
Our recent stay at The Grand Del Mar was nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality that set the tone for an unforgettable experience. We were particularly impressed by the exceptional service provided by Neil, whose attention to detail truly made our stay special. Upon entering our spacious and spectacular room, we were delighted to find a small birthday cake waiting for my husband, a thoughtful gesture that exceeded our expectations.Additionally, Neil went above and beyond to ensure we had an unforgettable dining experience by securing reservations at a fantastic restaurant. His knowledge of the area and dedication to customer satisfaction truly enhanced our stay.Overall, we highly recommend The Grand Del Mar to anyone seeking a luxurious getaway with unparalleled service. Our heartfelt thanks to Neil and the entire staff for making our stay truly memorable. Our experience at the golf course at The Grand Del Mar was nothing short of exceptional. Set against a backdrop of stunning scenery, this course is a true gem for any golf enthusiast. The course itself is a testament to meticulous maintenance and thoughtful design. Each hole offers its own unique challenge, with lush fairways and perfectly manicured greens enhancing the overall experience. One standout aspect of our round was the exceptional service provided by our caddy, Brad. His extensive knowledge of the course and insightful tips on how to navigate each hole made a significant difference in our game. Brads passion for the sport and dedication to ensuring our enjoyment truly elevated our experience.Overall, The Grand Del Mar Golf Course exceeded our expectations in every way. Whether youre a seasoned golfer or just starting out, this course is sure to impress. Our sincere thanks to Brad and the entire staff for making our day on the green one to remember.
Room is spacious and clean. Very four seasons like in approach with toiletries and bath essentials (ex. they have refillable large bottles for easy dispensing).Grounds are clean and tidy. Easy to walk around. There are even some edible lemon trees on site that we notice. Great for decor and enhancing the aroma on site.Food is delicious. Love their weekend activities. Never an issue with breakfast. Lunch was also pleasant there after a day of hiking. So why the 4 and not 5. They really need to enforce pickleball times. Locals who play tend to overstay time and act entitled like they own the place. Literally came twice and twice locals were playing way over their time and trying to ask for more time. Coach giving lessons completely ignored it. Ended up creating a bad experience for us as hotel guests.
From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, you will experience the highest level of service, attentiveness, attention to detail, and hospitality. From the Pool, Room Service to Addison the food is off the charts regarding taste and presentation. The spa and fitness facilities are world-class with fully stocked amenities at all times. You never have to ask for anything because it was already thought of and provided for you. The Golf Course and the Club facilities at the Grand are unreal with the Driving Range being the nicest and best facility in Southern California. The staff at the club is the most gracious, fun, energetic, and polite people you will ever come across making your round at San Diegos only Fazio course even more memorable. Dylber at the Lobby Bar, Jason their new Food & Beverage Director went above and beyond and made perfect cocktails every round. Besm, Vladirmir & Peter at Amaya might be the most professional, courteous, yet playfully hysterical Servers that I have ever experienced at a Restaurant. They all truly make the experience at the most gorgeous property in San Diego, even more beautiful because of the quality people they are.
Elegant with lots of interesting areas to explore. Excellent pools and we had a great group event with the pickleball instructor. Huge rooms with separate shower, toilet and giant soaking tub. Although our roomwas kind of musty smelling and the shower drain backed up - they probably need to clean out the drains. Beautiful golf course nestled into the canyon which you can also hike - some sections need a weed whacking as you have to go through an area with lots of bees from the flowers covering the trail. Pools are nice with comfortable seats but expensive drinks and snacks. Maybe not for the target customer but certainly more than we are used to - $24 for a grilled cheese sandwich for example. There is a small cafe where you can get some less expensive options and the golf club house offers a deal on the weekend - $25 for a burger and beer. A good deal as a beer will set you back $13 and a smash burger $32 - $34 depending on where you order it - pool, room service etc. Beautiful grounds, marble everywhere which isn’t really a bonus in areas like the bathroom or near the pool where it gets slippery. Decor feels dated but I suppose that is the idea - old world. For events there are a lot of cool places they can set up for outdoor eating.
What a beautiful get away place. I didnt get to seeing the whole place, though I did see the golf course and people going off the pool. The staff is friendly and the rooms are gorgeously exquisite. It seems too fancy for a family vacay spot, still there were a few.
Opulent Retreat: Our Mother’s Day at Fairmont Grand Del MarWe stayed at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar to celebrate Mother’s Day and our experience was absolutely grand. From the moment we arrived, the grandeur of the property was evident. The property has a secured gate, and the staff greeted us warmly. We were directed efficiently, and I was immediately amazed by the vastness of the property. The exterior of the hotel is giving an Italian charm, and the main lobbys fountain added to the enchanting atmosphere. The bell service was prompt and efficient with our valet parking. Entering the main lobby, I was in awe of the Italian-inspired interiors. Our check-in process was smooth, and the front desk agent kindly guided us to the elevator. The property is quite extensive, with various wings, which can be a bit confusing. I would suggest adding more signage to help guests navigate more easily, as we found ourselves wandering at times. Our room was a pleasant surprise – spacious and luxurious. The elegant gold accents, particularly the large golden mirror in the bathroom, and the roomy standing shower with a seating area added to the opulence. The separate toilet area, double sinks, and a tub enhanced the bathroom experience. The walk-in closet and the window in the bathroom that allowed for a peek outside was a unique touch. The room also featured a small balcony and a charming tea and coffee credenza with a tiny sink, adding to the room’s luxe feel. Our dining experiences were equally impressive. We enjoyed drinks and happy hour at the lounge, where the staff was very accommodating. Breakfast at Amaya was superb, the Mexican-inspired menu and excellent recommendations from our server was delightful. The ambiance made our breakfast feel incredibly luxurious. We also dined at the Clubhouse Grill, where the food was delicious – the waffle with horchata was a standout. Although we couldn’t secure a seat at Addison, it gives us a reason to return. We thoroughly enjoyed all the amenities the property has to offer, from the pool, hot tub, and gym to the elegant interiors of the hotel. The wine cellar, staircase, and luxury library-slash-bar all contributed to the elegant vibe. Everything about the Fairmont Grand Del Mar exudes elegance and luxury. You really have to see and experience it yourself to fully appreciate it. We had a wonderful time, and my mom was treated grandly on Mother’s Day. Thanks, Fairmont Grand Del Mar, for an unforgettable stay.
This reviews a few months late but we stayed here for our honeymoon and the amenities were perfect, the staff was a delight and the restaurants were 🤌. I loved this place!
Staff was very attentive just before and during arrival. Unfortunately I really struggled to get help in the month to several weeks before arrival. My whole reason for staying here was to enjoy a meal at Addison, and that never happened. Calls went unanswered and unreturned. By the time a real person was aware of my plight there was no helping. Really enjoyed room service and my patio adjacent to the adult only pool.Assistant golf pro went out of his way to help get us back from the grill to the main hotel at lunchtime when bellhops were busy. I will return, but not with out my Addison reservation firmly in hand.
Horrible experience. I dont recommend anyone staying here. I recently stayed at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar for a wedding, and it was a highly disappointing experience. Despite being at full capacity, they clearly didnt have the staff to attend to the guests. The service and management were horrible; the front desk operations were outsourced to India, meaning any requests or issues had to be routed overseas before reaching someone at the actual hotel. This caused significant delays and confusion. Additionally, housekeeping was extremely slow, taking hours to respond to simple requests. The walls were so thin that we could hear a crying baby right next to us, which prevented us from sleeping for two nights. Part of being a 5-star resort is proper room allocation and consideration of where families are placed versus people without kids who are trying to get some sleep and enjoy their weekend. Despite reaching out, the director of operations, Diana Cortese, ignored my email, adding to the frustration of the situation. For the premium price, you’re much better off spending your money somewhere else where your needs will be promptly and adequately addressed. This stay made what should have been a joyous occasion into a stressful ordeal.
The service here is so bad. For the amount of money you pay, you would expect the best service possible. However, it is hard to find an employee at the hotel. Many things I had to figure out in my own. Second, the hotel accidentally charged me extra, and when I called the hotel, they told me, “we can’t do anything about it contact your bank.” I don’t know if you consider this luxury service, but I sure don’t.
Exceptional hotel, exceptional service, beautiful grounds , rooms large and well appointed. We had high tea here it was excellent and we enjoyed my birthday and Valentine’s Day all here at the hotel. Will definitely be coming back and the Staff is who really put the icing on the cake , they are extremely attentive . Thank You all !
My first ever 5 star review for a resort. This place is magical. Beautiful location and beautiful resort. The staff was top notch as well. Had such a great time my wife and I stayed another night. Would highly recommend and will definitely return.
We have been staying at the GDM in the past when the property was first owned by Papa Doug before it was sold to the Fairmont. We used to come yearly until Covid hit then we took a hiatus. We have returned to our Xanadu, The Grand Del Mar, after 5 years to celebrate our son’s 30th birthday and my wedding anniversary of 38 years. There is no better place than the GDM for such special occasions. Some of the management key people are still very present at the property but many of the familiar faces that have been at the GDM for years are no longer present except for Bryan Duncan and Nick who are not at the Golf clubhouse restaurant. These 2 gentlemen welcomed us back like family and extended such hospitality and generosity to us. We thank Bryan D and Nick for their hard work and outstanding customer service! Other shout outs go to other wonderful staff at the property who went over and beyond to get to know us and to hep us—Liz in the gift shop; Eve at the Relaxation pool; Mia, archery instructor; and Lauren at the horse stable. Lastly, the housekeeping staff that cleaned our room during our stay (June 3 to 7) is outstanding…paying attention to every little detail in the room. Bravo to all these awesome people at GDM!The management should also be recognized for their awesome leadership and for ensuring their loyal guests are valued and appreciated. They are extremely accommodating and they always manage to make us feel like VIPs. We appreciate and thank Mr. Hussein and Ms. Cortese very much in helping us with our reservation in ensuring our stay was nothing short of perfection. Recognizing loyal guests is so important in this economy and Mr. Hussein and Ms. Cortese out did themselves. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to them both! The property is still gorgeous as ever, our usual room is in better shape than before with an even larger screen tv. Our room had no wear and tear and everything was like brand new when we first stayed in it when the property first opened. It is truly impressive to be able to keep every inch of the property so immaculate and well kept. The spa adult pool is lovely as before with new lounger cushions and umbrellas. I love the thick lounger cushions so it is really comfortable. Their tiles by the pool are always cool to the feet even when it is 40 degrees out which is so lovely. The bottom of your feet will never be burnt. One of the changes we did notice is that the water temperature is much cooler during our stay in early June and there are no more sunscreen or magazines. Luckily we did bring our own sunscreen but it was a nice touch to have bottles of it at the pool for those guests that may have forgotten theirs. The one thing that I did miss most during this stay is the early morning coffee urn by the front desk for early risers like a few of us who needed a java jolt before starting off our day. We now need to wait until the coffee shop is open at 6am. There is a Nespresso machine and kettle in the room but the Nespresso can be noisy especially at 5am when the family is still deep in their sleep. The menu offerings at the coffee shop has also changed ….now it is more of a grab and go type whereas before they had lovely soups like lobster bisque even and great salads. There were some lovely looking desserts like the chocolate rocher which i will try for sure.It is so nice to see the Fairmont doing so much work to the property…there is now a “Grand Social” on the weekends at the front of the property; the man made sandy beach by the family pool now has been replaced by a games area with artificial turf and lovely ornamental grasses. It also looks like they are building a stage like structure there as well.We like to thank the wonderful staff and management for providing us another exceptional stay at the Grand Del Mar. You provided us with such joy and happiness during our stay celebrating our sons 30th birthday and our 38th wedding anniversary. It is truly our Xanadu and we will return soon.
Some friends invited us to listen to live salsa music at the fire pits. The food was delicious. The setting was magical as we watched the sunset over the hills.
Had an amazing golf weekend with my 10 and 12 year old. Our caddie for the week Eric Moore was absolutely great and made sure the boys had a great time playing a great course.
First and foremost, impeccable service from the staff. I knew it would be good, but it definitely exceeded what I was expecting. The property has an older look to it rather than a modern one, which gives a more cozy feel to it. The architecture is amazing although the best part is the outside area which is spacious and beautiful.
This is one of my favorite hotels anywhere.Every fairmont property brings the right blend of comfort, class, and service. This one may be at the top of my list.
Loved every minute here, and the scent of jasmine air at the property was so soothing. The deep soaking tub in the room was perfection.
This was hands down the most luxurious hotel Ive ever stayed in. Great service, everyone was incredibly friendly, and the amenities were amazing. I felt bad not wanting to leave the property to explore San Diego!
What a terrific place to stay. Beautiful grounds. Quiet, relaxing. Classic styling in the hotel. Welcoming, friendly staff. Loved the workout area, went daily. Everything youd want on a stay. The bartender by the pool made a fantastic mezcal margarita. Was in town for a conference near gaslamp, found it easy to come and go from here to there. Great experience, will absolutely be back
Robert our server was outstanding. We ate at the Amaya. He was professional and helpful.
The best bed ever. Exceptionally clean room (Im super fussy),marvellous spa and delightful grounds. Cant wait to go back!
Stayed here Thanksgiving weekend with my wife. Its one of the nicest hotels Ive been to in California. Dont play golf, so theres a big bit of this place Im sure Im missing out on. Room service and service in general was very good. Loved everything on the in-room dining menu except Turkey club was bland. Gym has benches and decent selection of weights. Treadmills were nice. Everyones got a warm hello. Will stay here again.
We went to a special evening at the Grand followed by a dinner at Amaya. This restaurant has always taken a back seat to its famous neighbor Addison. But let me tell you the last few times we went to Amaya it blew our socks off! Just terrific. Great food. Wonderful servers. Beautiful space.
My wife and I celebrated our wedding at this venue in 2017, and we absolutely cherish every visit we make here. During our recent stay, Neil P. provided exceptional assistance, going above and beyond to accommodate our needs and those of our daughter. His amazing efforts made the setup seamless and enhanced our stay beyond our expectations. Kaitlin D. also contributed significantly to our positive experience during our stay. The staff at the Fairmont Grand is undeniably exceptional. As for the hotel itself, it stands as the finest weve ever encountered, consistently delivering a superior experience with its impressive grounds, restaurants, amenities, and overall service.
Me, my son and 2 dogs had a great time! We stayed the weekend and this place is definitely on my list of staycations now. They let you bring your dog to dinner which is a plus to me. I can’t stand hotels that say don’t leave your dogs unattended but then you cant bring them with you to enjoy the hotel festivities. What sense does that make lol?? Rooms were a nice size, food was good. Everyone was more then accommodating. Thank you for a great time
Kind of eats at me to not give this place five stars. I would never tell someone not to stay here. The Addison is incredible, must go! The Grand Club golf course was amazing as well. Food and service, top tierWife and I just had a really awkward check in experience (emphasis on the bad check in) I won’t get into here. We also had a giant spider and spider webs in our room. Older hotel, not quite our scene.Absolutely stay here, I’d bet if you went, there’s a 90% chance you’re giving it 5 stars!!!
This is an absolutely amazing property. A true 5 star resort. The employees and service were incredible. The grounds are beautiful, expansive, and well kept. Rooms are big with a great sized bathroom. Beautiful gym with high end equipment. We didn’t eat on property, so I can’t speak to the quality of food. Pool service was also great, well staffed and attentive to guests. My favorite part was the beautiful library filled with books of different genres you could borrow during your stay.
Excellent experience, from room quality to service from the staff. Neil assisted my family and was very attentive to the quality of our experience, even including our 19-month old daughter. He and the entire staff made us feel at home and we’re eager to serve. The property is well maintained, serene, and scenic. The pools and other amenities are relaxing and family friendly. We will soon be returning!
The Fairmont Del Mar is a great hotel however their customer support falls very short of the hotels grandiose image. After mistakenly leaving a garment bag during a stay on NYE, my husband and I quickly realized our mistake and called in to locate the lost items shortly after our stay. Two times we called, we were told the bag was not recovered and insisted that they did not have our items.Due to the value of the items in the bag, we decided to drive out to the hotel several weeks later and were once again turned away and told that the bag was never turned in. At this point, we were left suspicious as no serious attempt to look was made (the call from the front desk to security lasted about 30 seconds) and we both heard the person assisting us say yes, that one in Spanish over the phone only to be turned away shortly thereafter, perhaps assuming we wouldnt understand. The following week my husband made one final attempt to locate the garment bag and called in to the Fairmont to ask them to look once more and to inform them that we would be forced to utilize our insurance and file a police report if it wasnt found, due to the value of the items in the garment bag.At this point, the tone of the conversation changed and within an hour we received a call that the bag had been located. Seeing as this happened late on a Friday afternoon, we said that we would go pick up the bag rather than having them mail it to us as we did not have confidence in the Fairmonts ability to ship the items in a timely manner. Two days later, we arrived to the Fairmont and were yet again that they did not have the garment bag or any record of it. After 30 minutes of the manager, Kai, insisting that the garment bag was not in possession, the Assistant Director of Security finally located the bag and came out to explain that it was a process issue while the manager never bothered to come back to offer an apology after our items were finally located despite the fact that it was a very quiet Sunday afternoon and no one was around. To add insult to injury, we asked for the hotel managers contact information to escalate the situation and highlight the suspicious and extremely poor handling of the series of events. Their response was to offer us a 50% discount off of our next stay, as if we would stay there again after our experience. This response displays a stark disparity between the Fairmonts espoused values and the actual level of service, and is inexcusable especially at the price point.Edit: I emailed the contact provided only for him not to respond. After over a week, I sent a follow up email only to be told too bad and that the issue had been resolved internally.Do better, Fairmont.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar. The team, Christian, Kai & Drew were amazing and so accommodating. They went above and beyond for us and our guests. The premises are gorgeous and serene. We had a wonderful stay and look forward to coming back many times.
My wife and I got married here in 2017 and absolutely love visiting whenever we get a chance. This past stay, we were helped by Neil P. He went above and beyond to accommodate us and our daughter and he couldnt have been more amazing. He made everything so easy to set up and it made our stay even better than wed hoped. Kaitlin D. was also amazing when helping us with our stay. The staff at the Fairmont Grand is quite simply exceptional. As for the hotel itself, its the nicest hotel weve ever been to and never disappoints. The grounds, restaurants, amenities, and overall service are top notch.
Gorgeous property, pristine grounds. We enjoyed exploring the coast and hikes nearby. Perfect location
Myles gave us a complete tour of the place, he did an excellent job explaining the history and all services including the restaurant, golf course, pool ,event areas and the spa. Place is magnificent, thank you Myles, we will be back soon.
We were lucky to secure a spa spot for 2 people on Friday morning a day in advance. My spa day at Fairmont Del Mar began with a massage and extended to the pools. The facility features two pools - a public, family-style pool, and an exclusive one for hotel and spa guests, which tends to attract a younger crowd. The spa area has amenities like a jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room. The shower essentials provided had a pleasant aroma, and they offered robes and slippers added comfort. They offer also a yoga classes on the pool that is free as part of the spa package or for hotel guests.Lunch offered flexibility, allowing guests to dine by the pool or at the restaurant. Food was over prices but I lived what I ordered fish taco.Moving between the pools was easy, with the option of using a cart or walking a short distance.I was even able to finish a zoom meeting while I was there. If youre looking for a comprehensive escape, its worth considering.
Phenomenal resort. The hotel grounds are immaculate and you feel as though you are in Italy more than Southern California (as if it’s not beautiful enough). The rooms are spacious and service is top-notch. We enjoyed a few days by the pool; the hotel also has a golf course and stables for horseback riding. The only call out would be that the food is extremely pricey for what it is, but expected at a luxury resort. This is certainly a stay to be remembered.
This is the ideal setting for a wedding - lavish, romantic views, so many amenities to entertain guests in style... Golf, horseback riding, lakes, ebikes, a completely secluded adults only pool area, and a 6 inch baby pool in the main pool area! So beautiful here. Compassion international thanks you greatly for your deluxe hospitality.
The Grand Del Mar in San Diego is one of the most elegant hotels I’ve ever had the pleasure of staying. From the refined decor to the meticulously cultivated dining experiences, it was nothing short of amazing. Christian greeted us when we first arrived and provided an extraordinary tour of the hotel grounds. We truly felt like VIPs as he informed us of at the hotel amenities, activities, etc. Without his introduction to the hotel, I doubt our experience would have been as fruitful as it was. 5 star experience!
The location and venue were beautiful. The staff and service were all excellent and very helpful, they made you feel at home. Neel was particularly helpful when we had to change our plans. He also really engaged with my toddler who already wants to come back again. The room was excellent. The tepee for our son worked so well. I wish all hotels offered this.
My family of four had an absolute wonderful stay. Truly 5 star service and facility. Thank you!
I celebrated my 25th birthday solo at the Fairmont. Before the trip, I sent various email communications to the Fairmont concierge, and each time they referred to me as “Mr.” I replied to each email, making it clear that I was “Ms.” In this day and age, a woman with a unisex name should not be that confusing.I asked time to reserve some spa time and was told the spa would reach out with availability. Then the concierge reached out again, calling me Mr. and asked if I wanted a female or male masseuse. I said female, and signed as Ms. The concierge replied with Okay, I will pass it along and then called me Mr. again. The spa never reached out with availability. While this encounter was incredibly grating, I tried not to let it sour my birthday trip.I specifically asked for early check in and was told yes. Then when I arrived on the day of check in, I had to wait hours to be checked in. I arrived in the morning at 11 am and did not receive a room until 4 pm, which meant I had to cancel an entire day of plans. After I finally received a room, I figured my luggage would already be there, but they were not. I called the front desk to have my luggage carried down. 30 minutes later, they finally showed. Before the trip, I explained that I was celebrating a birthday, but there was no zero acknowledgment of my birthday the entire trip.I could not make dinner reservations since my day was so delayed, so I ordered room service. When they answered the phone, they asked “is this for two? Will your husband be joining?” This was baffling. I was on a solo trip. I arrived alone. I was rooming alone. What husband? It was bizarre. The entire trip, the few occasions I called the front desk or room service, they asked about an imaginary husband I do not have.Perhaps I did not understand their joke. The equestrian centre was closed, which is unfortunate as I I was really looking forward to that.Spiders. I kept finding spiders in the bathroom, in the tub, on the beside table. I’ve attached a photo of one on the bathroom ceiling for reference. On the last day after at a week at Fairmont, I asked for assistance bringing my luggage up. It took so long, I decided to bring my own luggage up, and then someone met me by the elevator to assist. They did not even help load my luggage into the car as I was leaving.I booked with AMEX, and received a letter at the beginning of my stay that outlined the benefits, which includes complimentary breakfast for two every morning, however, I was charged for breakfast. I was so over the entire ordeal that I never even bothered arguing the charge. I just wanted to forget the entire week. It’s not at all how I wanted to spend my 25th. It’s an absolute shame I traveled across the country for an experience such as this. But perhaps I should have had more foresight about how the experience would go considering the email correspondences we exchanged prior to the trip.I give it two stars for the location and the safety.
I think this was the best Fairmont I have ever stayed in. Well kept up. Fantastic staff all around. They really go out of their way to make sure you have an amazing stay. The rooms were quiet and the bed very comfortable. I had a veranda suite looking over the pool. I think it was the adults only pool so it was relaxing. Will definitely return!
The hotel needs updating throughout, and even the grounds need attention. Trash was left full on the grounds near the back fountain, weeds were in the rondel by the fountain. The dining room didnt have table clothes, just bare wood.I was expecting a 5 star property I was disappointed
Fairmont Del Mar exceeded expectations with its amazing service. The lunch options were impressive, offering a delightful culinary experience. Whats more, the property itself is a gem, providing a fantastic backdrop for a leisurely stroll. A top-notch destination for those seeking both excellent service and a captivating environment.
My favorite hotel ever!! Back to 2018, when I stayed in Fairmont I forgot my 2 carat Tiffany&Co diamond ring in the bathroom, I didn’t realized that until I drove back home about half way. I was almost dying when I found I lost my ring and returned to hotel after 1 hour driving, never believed my eyes that the housekeeper who cleaned my room, found the ring in bathroom (a place without camera) and handed in to manager, was kept in their office safe!!! Such a wonderful hotel that never disappointed you!! Highly recommend to everyone who would like to travel to San Diego!
Amazing hotel! Service is unsurpassed, our room ( suite - The Paseo Suite) was beyond belief. It was massive - dining table for 8, living room, kitchen, 2 full baths, dressing area, balconies…. Truly WOW! The entire place is posh, rich, and delightful. Couldn’t say more about this hotel what an amazing experience!!!
Beautiful hotel! Comfortable quite rooms in beautiful surroundings.Dinner at the Amaya restaurant was over the top, thanks to Peter, our server. Peter set the bar for fantastic service and made this a most memorable experience. Thank you Peter!
Stayed at this place for a weekend when I was like 23. Unbelievable place on so many levels, i havent been anywhere as nice since lol 😭
Amazing experience. It truly makes a difference, when as a guest you can tell that your hosts really do care that you are happy. This was a top-to-bottom, amazing staff at the @fairmontgranddelmar. Every interaction has been positive and inviting. They dont try to hide the back of the house staff, they encourage interaction with the guests and everyone on staff, it seems, truly wanted to make sure we had a wonderful stay. Its easy to say well, you get what you pay for but this place is different. I would suggest the Fairmont Grand Del Mar to anyone who wants an experience. Ill be back.
Its a resort that all ages can enjoy together!! Its good.
Incredible. My favorite hotel for a getaway. Golf for the husband, incredible spa. I did a 60 min massage, the rooms are elegant and clean and updated. Ginormous facilities. Horse stables, tennis, green fields for weddings, ice skating during winter months. The hotel was full while we were there and we couldn’t even tell. Only one of two people by the pool and only one other party in the spa.
Great rooms and service was spot on the entire trip. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Would recommend this place for a nice vacation spot.
After an airbnb debacle, we ended up calling the Fairmont for a very last minute, dog-friendly room. Martina in reservations literally saved our anniversary - setting us up in under ten minutes and even leaving a little treat for us at the front desk to kick off our anniversary celebrations. It was my first time at the Grand Del Mar, and I cant wait to go back!
I stayed here with my family about 5 years ago. The golf course was a closed-down wreck, the hallways grimy, the rooms tiny and worn out, the staff non-existent, and we paid $220 for the night. Maybe the place is much better now, but they made a brickload of money off of unsuspecting travelers like myself who expected a beautiful resort stay, and encountered a dilapidated property well past its heyday.
We hosted an event at the Fairmont. The hotel and team were fantastic. They were so accommodating and helpful. Big thanks to Christian, Kai and Drew. We can’t wait to come back!
This resort has probably the best customer service i have ever received. Im so big on customer service, i travel frequently & been to countless 5 start resorts & have not had the politeness, above & beyond service like this place. I will return here & recommend this place to everyone i know.
Beautiful place. Only wished that the swimming pool had longer open hours. We were on a business trip so we were only there for 2 nights. First night arrived late so couldnt swim. Second night got back around 9pm from business stuff. And we had to head out at 8am both mornings so the pool opening at only 7am is too much of a rush to go for a swim in the morning (I like swimming leisurely and spending at least 30 minutes in the pool, and I take a while to clean up and get ready after a swim). Aside from pool hours, if we could come back to this place again, we would!
Our stay at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar was incredible! We were greeted immediately at the front desk by Muriceo and Christian who made us feel very comfortable and offered us warm towels to freshen up. Neil continued our check-in with offering us bottles of water and personally escorted us to our room. We explained to him that we needed a roll-away bed for our teen and he was quick to make the request. My daughter said that the roll-away was more comfortable than the bed she stayed at while at the Grand Canyon. Our room faced the adult pool and we loved every bit of that. We spent the day sunning and swimming. We saw Neil the next day and he remembered our names and asked how everything was going. We were quite impressed. He suggested that we try the cafe for breakfast. The croissants were delicious. I cant say enough nice things about our stay and the service that we received from everyone, especially Neil. We will be returning!
My buddy and I got a deal on “Under Par” that had two rounds of golf and a one night stay. For the price it was well worth it & even without the deal this spot is a golfer’s dream! We checked in got our stuff settled in and had our first round at 1pm. Luckily we finished around 4:30 but it got pretty dark but it was a great overall feel of the golfing here. We enjoyed the city and got ready for our next round at 10am, which is the time I recommend. We had Jimmy our caddy and he was excellent. Ask for him because he was chill, gave excellent tips on the field(distance, club selection and where to aim because of his familiarity of the course). The course was clean, the greens were kept up & the carts are top notch. As for the hotel stay I thought it was a great room, had enough room, large bathroom and a nespresso coffee machine in the room. The hotel had numerous living rooms, libraries and spots to read or drink a coffee. The decor and style was very classic and welcoming. Definitely had a high end stay feel. The clubhouse had a very delicious BLT that I thought was one of then best I’ve ever had!I’d definitely come back here again for a round or two. An excellent hotel with an amazing golf course & amazing customer service!
Overall excellent resort, friendly staff, nice family pool. However service at restaurant Amaya is very slow, they are definitely understaffed - each breakfast entrée took about 30 minutes to get after placing order.
We stay in very excellent hotels rather often, and this review calibrates to other luxury hotels. Overall, this has the vibe of a serene wellness retreat. We will likely not stay again.Staff was 10/10, unbelievable team, personality, and hospitable energy. I rate 4 vs. 5 hesitantly because I enjoyed them so much. Here are some considerations for any travelers:** Grounds are under major repair and construction currently (as of mid-April 2023) impacting setting, path ways, and scenery.** Grounds are incredible(!), but clientele and atmosphere = very stuffy. Not many hellos or smiles over several days. Air of annoyance at kids. Extremely hollow.** Parking was unexpected +$65/day and no self-park - beware!** +$60/day resort experience fee** Tons of nickel & diming the guests feel. Obviously, anyone spending $800-$1000+/night for a room has means, but even affluent people dont like having to just sign this real quick so I can get a tip out of you feel. Get coffee in the morning? Need to wait for the print out, sign your name, room number, tip. Or, horse riding lesson... $300? No, $387 after coordination charge and not including tip -- that sort of thing was consistent. So it gets hard to ask the staff for things because there is a sense everything is a tipping situation. I brought 20 $5 bills and ran out quickly.** Most important consideration in rating: On-site restaurants-- not good. The family restaurant (Amaya) didnt have a burger, for example... only steaks/fish/etc, and the $50 pork chop was poor. Weird menu. A basic meal for a family of 4 was $300. We were budgeting about $1500-$2000 on food and beverage during our stay, so there is a business case for them to improve this, but we ended up getting in the car and going out instead, mainly due to the menu options available and the stuffy dining atmosphere (we were only diners in the whole restaurant at times for both meals). Its super nice but where weve spent approximately the same $$, frankly--its just been much more fun. 100% - look here if primary objective is staying out of the mix or retreating from hustle and bustle. I want to thank the staff for being phenomenal.
This was our second stay at the Fairmont, which is a gorgeous property inside and out. Everyone was kind enough; however, I felt a definite lack of any service that was above and beyond. When compared to other resorts with similar pricepoints/ratings, I feel the value is not quite there. I have been to resorts where we were given a totebag at check-in with small toiletries that we could use (to carry a change of clothes for pooltime, etc); here there is nothing like that. The amenities in the guest bathrooms are very sparse; there werent even any cotton swabs included. Other resorts will even have lip balm, mouthwash or shoe polish wipes. When we checked in, no one told us about the entertainment going on at the Grand Social (I read about it later on my own). When we checked out, no one offered us water for our drive back home (again, usually a common amenity at a resort of this caliber). The first time we went, valet parking was optional. It is now mandatory and priced quite steep at $65/night. Its hard to appreciate the value there when the parking lot is close enough you can see it. Also, we still didnt get to dine at Addison on this trip because they were booked so far in advance. I wish the resort would keep a certain number of tables available for the guests who are paying so much to be there. The best service we got was from our waiter at Amaya (we couldnt read his nametag because it was so dark) and a young man (I didnt get his name, but he was tall with shaggy blond hair) who served us by the family pool - they were both fantastic. Otherwise, this stay left me wanting more.
This property is magical. It was our 3rd visit and we love it each time a little more! Each season has it own charm! We celebrated my 3 years old and husband birthday! The team just made it so perfect! We had welcome milk & cookies and a birthday cake in our room waiting for us. And All the amenities ready for our baby and toddler !Kai at the front desk is very nice and professional, he greeted us each day of our stay with the same contagious smile!Shel at the concierge desk coordinate with the Pastry chef the most amazing custom birthday cake for my toddler ( under the sea creature)In 2 word : Perfect stay!Thank you !!!!!
The views, experiences, and cuisine are all noteworthy, but all are meaningless and wasted without a Grade-A staff at the helm.It is a joy to share that the treatment and attention of the staff really made the difference here, and allowed me to handle all business in a timely and high-quality manner.I would like to render special thanks to their absolutely irreplaceable Mr. Neil at the front desk, and also to Mr. Edward C., the IT Manager whose work behind the scenes brought further success to our operation.
Attended a conference. Rooms are large and comfortable. I used a knee scooter and the accessible room was perfect. The whole property is beautiful and easy to navigate.
Fairmont Grand Del Mar is a very quiet and secure (gated) hotel. Cozy room and friendly staff. We enjoyed our 4 night stay very much.
This property is great but very poor in terms of dinning choices and availabilityAlmost everything we wanted in Cent Anni Cafe was not available at 9 am???. Room service is good but food is below average. Late evening dining options are very limited.
They went above and beyond to make me feel so special on my birthday! The room views are gorgeous and peaceful. We didn’t even leave the resort, we ended up going to the relaxation pool all day which has mediation calming music under water (the best part) and then to Amaya for dinner with a beautiful patio table and view of the sunset. All of the staff we encountered were pleasant and welcoming. Looking forward to planning our next trip back!
Had a fabulous stay overnight at the resort , it is a very beautiful facility with a very european feel . Had dinner at Amaya outside on the patio , was seated outside by Mia who was charming and was served by Peter who really went above and beyond any of our expectation ........thank you Peter
Everything is great. Except for language services and check-in and checkout ,we waited 55 minutes
This place may be perfect; close to heaven. The only thing I can even joke about are the long maze-like hallways that remind me of The Shining. My entire stay here was like it was out of phase with the rest of the world, everything was perfect, not amazing or incredible, but perfect. Bazin is doing something special with this property, and Fairmont as a brand in general.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Fairmont Grand Del Mar, and I must say that my experience at the spa and pool was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I stepped into the luxurious surroundings, I felt like I had entered a haven of relaxation and rejuvenation. The spa at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar is a true gem. The ambiance is serene and calming, with soft lighting and soothing music that immediately put me at ease. The staff greeted me with warmth and professionalism, making me feel like a valued guest from the start. They took the time to explain the various treatments and services available, helping me choose the perfect one to suit my needs.I opted for a massage, and it was one of the best Ive ever experienced. The therapist was skilled and attentive, ensuring that I was comfortable throughout the entire session. The combination of expert technique and the tranquil spa environment melted away all my stress and tension. Afterward, I enjoyed some time in the relaxation lounge, sipping on herbal tea and feeling completely refreshed. The pool area at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar is equally impressive. The pool itself is stunning, surrounded by lush landscaping and comfortable loungers. I spent hours basking in the California sun, taking occasional dips to cool off. The poolside service was impeccable, with attentive staff offering refreshing drinks and delicious snacks. What truly sets the Fairmont Grand Del Mar apart is the attention to detail. Every aspect of my spa and pool experience was thoughtfully curated to provide the utmost comfort and luxury. Whether it was the plush robes and slippers, the high-quality skincare products, or the serene atmosphere, every element contributed to a memorable visit. In conclusion, my visit to the spa and pool at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar was a delightful escape from the everyday hustle and bustle. The combination of exceptional service, a tranquil atmosphere, and top-notch facilities left me feeling rejuvenated and pampered. If youre looking for a luxurious spa and pool experience in the San Diego area, I highly recommend the Fairmont Grand Del Mar. Its an oasis of relaxation and indulgence that I cant wait to return to.Bashar Q
I cannot believe that I was put in a room with peeling wallpaper. For the price of the stay, I was expecting a much nicer experience. I will not be back, as it is clear this property is in dire need of a renovation.
Been there one night of a 5 night stay. The service is extraordinary! I booked the room on a 3rd party discount travel site and the front desked offered to upgrade us from a single king to 2 double beds upon noticing we had our 10 year old son.Our bags were brought to our room and since our key did not work when we arrived we were automatically upgraded to a room with a terrace! The grounds are beautiful! Everyone is incredibly accommodating and the lobby seems like something only reserved for the ultra wealthy.I’m picky about hotel bathrooms and not disappointed. A huge deep tub, large shower and marble everywhere. If you’re looking for a brand new property with very modern design features (like a post-modern museum w/ hidden electronic doodads everywhere), not really for you. If you want to be treated like royalty (or someone w/ old money) in a place that looks as well maintained as any 5-star property, I highly recommend.
I had 2 meetings there in a week. The Entry Gate- 2 side-by-side rows of cars. Looks as though one would have a pass or private gate. The other guard house. Explained I had a meeting at the hotel. Kept asking if I would stay the night¿ Beautiful ! 3 days later... the gentleman at the gate remembered me. And the valet remembered me. Im not that memorable! I think they were trained for that. Super pleasant. Just before big meetings having life easy, happy, non-eventful helps focus and makes you a better you. Exit Gate lol... I needed to drive up very close to the trigger and the gate opened back towards you. Very close. Thought it might clip the benz bumper... lolAs a Delmartian ~ RanchobrattI approve!
A lovely property with helpful staff. The shuttle to the beach in Del Mar was a great perk. Our driver Bob, had lots of local anecdotes to entertain us along the way. Pool is beautiful and pool side staff were great. Food quality and service was very good. A few missteps along the way, but resolved in the end.
This resort is really beyond! Lovely property, and top tiered level of service. However, the rooms can use a bit of a renovation as the furniture and accents seem a little bit dated. The location also has its limitations as driving is required to go anywhere beyond the property. This is a spectacular place, but make sure you have arrangements to get to other places beforehand.
Beautiful place. I loved the art, and the rooms were beautiful, as were the groundsThe adult pool and large hot tub area are a big plus. The food and drinks were good. The bar was nice and cozy. Our bartender was amazing. I asked for something light with vodka. I received a delicious drink! He is a true mixologist.Room service is impeccable. It was fast service. We had a conference and then two others were there. The staff was gracious and kind. The 18% tip was included prior to signing. If you are with a big group, check the ticket prior to tipping. We had a couples massage. The whirlpool, lounge area, snacks, and water made the cold and rainy day shine. One restaurant open for the morning. We would have a late breakfast. The restaurant was closed. Option 1 - walk or take golf cart ride to clubhouse or go to LaJolla. They have horses. We visited daily. Beautiful and high energy.Great walking trails. Perfect.I would go back for pleasureI would have loved some walkability to local places. The only drawback to the tripThe resort was amazing.
Hello Brendan,I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your teams personal engagement and sincere efforts towards a wonderful wedding last week at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar.The entire stay was as close to perfect as we could expect. From our greeting upon check-in, an upgrade to an outstanding room, dinner reservations at one of the worlds best restaurants, superb service from the valet team, a great dinner at Amaya, super pizza at the outdoor venue and as always a wonderfully maintained facility, our time at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar was one we will never forget. Most especially we want to thank Simona, your Lead Concierge for her very elegant and personalized attention for our wedding ceremony. Her service, kindness, consideration and professionalism was more than we expected. She exemplifies 6-star attention and expertise. We are forever grateful for her organization and kind attention to all details of our wedding. Our visit and experience puts the Fairmont Grand Del Mar at the top of our preferred resorts globally. We will most certainly assure that our friends, family and acquaintances are all aware of the preeminent service available at the Fairmont Grand Del MarBest regards
Staff was excellent! Beautiful property, enjoyed every moment of the trip! I wanted to highlight some key members of their team. Ivan from the pool was so attentive. Monica from room service was great! And Issac the housemen helped to answer all of our questions about the property! Last but certainly not least is Mauricio from the front desk, he is an asset to their team! So kind, he went out of his way to make sure that our stay was flawless! Many thanks to this amazing team!
Fairmont Grand Del Mar is your quintessential luxurious hotel. But it was the overstatement of this self-evident fact that most often took away – just a little bit – from the experience. The good: the concierge. Some of the most professional and nice people Ive interacted with in the hospitality industry. Props to them. In addition, the facilities and rooms were outstanding. I had some of the best sleep ever in my life. The food was great too.The could-improve:1) The gym was under repair while we were there; we were advised to check the outside gym instead. This was a bunch of old, rusted gym equipments put into a corner of the resort. It was such an out-of-place experience that it wouldve been better to simply say you had no gym at all.2) The place was missing both a poker room as well as a pool table. When asked about the latter, the staff said the place does not have a pool table because its very proper. A proper place never needs to mention they are proper. And there is nothing not proper about a pool table. Get a pool table.
Amazing experience all around! The property is stunning and the service is exceptional. Cannot wait to come back.
Beautiful location! Kinda weird to say: but the cleanest most well appointed public mens room Ive ever used. We went for high tea, which was typical Fairmont quality (which is very good) - highly recommend high tea: great service, great food, We had an awesome time!!
I love this hotel, however, my experience as only at the Spa and pool. The service, staff, and environment are all above expectation. First, is the professional, knowledgeable and friendly staff at the reception desk as well as therapists. They are a five star team, well trained and so kind. Ill be back soon. The experience is worth every bit of the fees.
We had a wonderful 2 night stay here. It is a beautiful hotel. If you ever go here be sure to take time to take in the architecture of this place. Make sure to look around. Take a moment to stand in the hallway and look up at the ceilings and then forward and how everything just lines up perfectly. Its really quite beautiful. The food in the restaurants is very good and the servers are very efficient and kind. My husband played a round of golf one day and he said the course was very good. The golf carts are really nice with comfy, molded, leather seats! They have a lot to offer for you to do here. They have an equestrian Center and it looks like a beautiful place to go for a trail ride. They have archery, cornhole, and several pools, golf, and a very high-end spa. If you want to go to the spa make sure you book early. I tried to get in on a Saturday and they had been booked up for days. So I was very disappointed I didnt get to enjoy the spa. And if you want to do the pool at least at the adults only pool, make sure you go out and stake your claim on some chairs early. This hotel is not cheap but neither is the service or the atmosphere. We really enjoyed our stay here.
Surprise gem hotel perfect for a weekend holiday getaway! Great service greeted at front desk by Ismael;late night food at the bar with Apollo; massage at the spa by Sara, Shanon,Gitana and Bogdan and Kyoto; poolside lunch with Marisol and special hibiscus margarita by Dominic; Amaya with attentive Matthia.
Terrific ! One of the best resorts to stay at . Stayed for our Daddy /daughter 10th birthday get -away . Hotel was stunning and the service superb . Christian and Neil at the front desk were very helpful and welcoming . John , our driver was fabulous and very knowledgeable of the area. Can’t thank the Fairmont enough for a terrific stay . Can’t wait to come back to paradise .
Amazing resort with a kind and professional staff! It was an awesome place to stay for the opening of the Del Mar season! I plan to stay again for future events! 😇🤩 Thank you to the excellent staff! Addisons is delicious! Tres Bon!
I’ve stayed at this hotel a few years ago and I still think about it all the time. I can’t afford to stay again lol 😅 But I still think about staying here all the time. My brother and I rode hoses there! We loved it! I also loved smelling the fresh cut flowers everyone we entered the hotel ❤️
Probably the most beautiful hotel in Dan Diego. Mauricio checked us in a romantic room overlooking fountains that were spluttering all night long. Only disappointment were the extremely small servings for tea which came up to $230 for two without champagne. Patisseries were very delicious though especially the passion fruit meringue.
Simona Simona Simona! I truly appreciate the wonderful proposal planning she helped me with. I flew in from Texas exactly four months ago. Simona sat me down and went over the whole proposal planning and planned out my vision with me. We had many phone calls going over the plan and additional details, Simona and her team was always there for me.I was able to surprise my fiancée with a beautiful proposal today under the gazebo in front of the fountain. The whole concierge team was amazing and I am glad I was able to ask the most important question of my life here on this property!
The property is beautiful, and our stay was relaxing. The room was dated. The food was disappointing, and did not match the price. We spent over $900 for our Christmas Eve meal for 3. That is a record for us, even for California.
We had our wedding her several years ago and cannot say enough nice things about the hotel. We have had charity events there, birthdays and several celebrations. The staff is the very best and the hotel is the most beautiful in California. We love just a few minute away and still love to stay there. You will truly feel like you can escape from everything! Spa is exceptional and pools are beautiful. Even if you just go for brunch or lunch you must experience it! And the holiday events they started a few years ago are amazing as well!
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar, and I must say it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warmth and professionalism, making me feel like a valued guest from the very first step onto the property. The pool area at Fairmont Grand Del Mar is truly a paradise. Surrounded by lush gardens and beautiful landscaping, the pool exudes a serene and tranquil ambiance. The water was crystal clear, and the pool attendants ensured it was always clean and inviting. The ample number of comfortable loungers allowed me to relax and soak up the sun, while the attentive poolside service made sure I never had to go without a refreshing drink or snack. Whether youre looking to unwind with a good book or engage in some family fun, the pool area caters to everyones desires.
The Fairmont Grand Del Mar totally exceeded our expectations!! We were hoping for a five star experience that included great restaurants, perfectly manicured golf greens and a large selection of spa treatments. All of this coupled with superior customer service, made our trip to San Diego one that we will never forget. Thanks for a special getaway!
Absolutely phenomenal property. Tip-top service, friendly staff, and probably the nicest property I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. Highly recommended! Neil at the front desk is my hero!
Went to the Grand Del Mar on a Sunday night just hoping for a nice drink in a fancy place to end the day. I called ahead of time and was told the lobby bar was open till midnight. Got there at 10pm. Was told the bartender would be right back. We were given menus and while looking over them, the manager was standing over us and putting pressure on us. He finally said yo the bartender “I guess they’re still making up their mind, so I’m gonna…” and he left. The bartender served us our drinks (good but not $30 Manhattan kind of good) and him and other workers were kinda fraternizing and making work talk, complaining, even said something like “man we really need to start making last call for the bar 9:30,” while we were sitting right there. Just came for a nice drink, didn’t want to feel like I was imposing on anyones “chill time” at work. Plenty of places in San Diego to waste money on overpriced drinks, think I’ll choose somewhere else next time.
The Spooktacular was so much fun I had a great time watching the kids dancing and playing everyone had a great time. The food was delicious I will definitely come here again!
My friend and I didnt stay here (she lives near by) but we got a resort pass which allowed us to use the beautiful pool and the rest of the common areas of the hotel for the day. wish I had gotten pics of the pool because it was so beautiful! it had an infinity pool style, and the deep end was 8 feet which was nice! its expensive to stay here but if you can afford it, DO IT
Overall, a very nice hotel with a few, minor service issues. First, the positives. Rooms are clean, comfortable and well maintained. Kudos to the room staff. Any issues we had (extra towels, more shower gel, remote for TV not working), they were quick to remedy. Restaurants were pricey but food was delicious. Really loved the lobster soup. Pool side service was more than adequate and very responsive. A few mistakes made on the busiest of days, but quickly remedied. Separate pools: family and adult only. Movie night for the kids on Saturday night.Where I had issues was with the social club. Service was poor. We arrived at 8:30 pm to enjoy the music, have a few drinks, and have the kids make Smores on the fire. It took 30 minutes for a server to stop by, another 30 to get the Smores kit and the server never returned for drinks. In fact, I had to flag him down to pay the bill for the Smores kit; he just refused to service us. Very poor service. I get that the social club is intended for adults, but the hotel is dog and family friendly, so any discrimination against those with kids reflects poorly on the hotel and their staff.Another issue: on arrival, my friends (our family was traveling with another) were told there was no self parking and he was required to pay the $60 valet fee per day. When I arrived (after our friends) and confronted the valet service, they admitted to using the neighboring lot as self parking. I get they are losing revenue, but really. Dont lie to the guests.Hotel is isolated from everything else, so a car is necessary to get there. It is behind a private, gated community so youll need to rent a car if you are coming by plane to San DiegoAll in all, a pretty good hotel. Not excellent, but pretty good. Not on par with the Ritz Carltons or Four Seasons Ive stayed at, but pretty close. If you get a good deal to stay here, as we did, you should have a good time.
I loved it! My friends and I spent a lovely day having lunch by the pool and getting spa treatments at this beautiful, super-swanky resort. The guys working by the pool were so sweet and helpful. All of the staff were charming. I hope I can come back with my husband for a weekend.
Ive stayed here twice, once for a photoshoot and once for my moms birthday. Both times were absolutely fantastic. The grounds are simply breathtaking. I love walking around this place, it feels like youre walking around a castle. The first room I had included a beautiful balcony, as did the second. The second also had a lovely soaking tub, which I enjoyed every day we were there. Ive eaten at every restaurant on the property and from what I can tell all the food was delicious. My favorite meal here is probably breakfast, their pancakes are amazing! My mom and I visited the spa on our trip and it was so luxurious and relaxing. We also laid by the pool and enjoyed that area very much. This whole hotel is simply wonderful. I will always give it the highest recommendation and I will definitely return. If the managers ever read this, thank you for such incredible service!
I honestly was expecting to give a 5 star review prior to my visit. Im giving 3 stars because the hotel is beautiful and the rooms are nice. My main issue is around add on packages and lack of staff knowledge. We got the glamping package for our room when booking our stay. Upon check in, we were told it would be all set up and we were hoping to see the look on our kids faces when walking in a room with a tent, cookies, lantern, and kids robes. But nothing. Ok fine no problem. We called the front desk and asked for it to be set up while we explored the hotel. Got back to the room later tent and lantern was set up, which was really nice but no cookies and robes. Ok no problem. Called room service for the cookies and robes, got the cookies and no robes (that the kids could take home as souvenirs) at this point Im over it, Im not asking for tht complete package part by part anymore. We were also told wed get a free movie and free two hours at the kids club (included in glamping package). Got the movie credited off the bill at the end of the stay at check out, but I had to be in top of it because it already had been charged to our card. Leave the hotel and see a charge for kids club on our credit card the next day (still no credit for the movie, but that will take a few days to drop off). So now I had to call them and remind them what was supposed to be included in their package. It was frustrating to need to sit there and Mirco manage the ENTIRE package and not even get everything from it.
The place is like a palace super pretty. The pools are really fun
What beautiful grounds and rooms. If you live local, you can pick up a day pass for a fair price and hang out poolside for a day of luxury. Better yet get a spa treatment and really treat yourself.
We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights for our Anniversary and couldnt have been happier. The hotel and grounds are stunning and the service was top notch. We never had a single issue and everyone who helped us went above and beyond . My husband loved the golf course while I enjoyed the spa which was one of the best Ive been in quite some time. SPA was 1000% worth it. Special shout out to the driver Juan who literally made our stay over the top, treating us like VIP. he went above and beyond to make sure we got everywhere we needed to be and even came and rescued me from shopping when I had forgotten my wallet and brought me back (my hero!!). THANK YOU JUAN!!! We truly appreciate your hard work and hospitality. We will be back!
Soooo easy to give this beautiful property 5 stars. You sense as you walk through the door this is going to be more than a special stay.Staff is superb and you can tell they really like each other. Nothing is to big to ask them...so attentive.Suites not missing anything, even scales, bath grains for bath, and tv in bathroom.Privileged to be there when it was announced Chef Bradley received 3 Michelin Stars.
I just booked a room with the reservation department, and I spoke with Jameka Graham. She was very accommodating, patient, and kind. Jameka made my experience seamless which is sometimes tough to do when you are trying to appease everyone in your family. Now, I am looking forward to our family vacation.
Updated reviewstill no work done on the truck 3 months later. just be carful if you stay here hope nothing goes wrongUpdated review2 weeks later still no contact with insurance. I received a claim number with a person to contact however I have called and left a message twice with no response. This is starting to get comical. Wayyyyy to much work for what should be a simple fix. Stay here at your own risk. Again just hope nothing goes wrong because it will take some time to get fixed if it does at all.Original reviewThe location, resort and grounds are amazing. However the service is lacking. During our stay the valet crashed my truck. First issue was they didn’t tell me until I got back. Secondly there was no communication about it the next day until we had to go up and ask. We were finally able to speak with Mike Vincent who assured us a claim had been made and a number would be provided within a day or two. Here we are 1 week later. No claim number. I have called multiple times each time Mike and the room manager were unavailable. Additionally I called the cellPhone provided by the room manager and it went straight to voicemail. We have emailed multiple times with no response. I would think a hotel of this status would have better service practices and provide updates or at least communicate the process with us as they were the ones that crashed the truck. Great resort and building, just hope that nothing goes awry because it’s a head ache to solve of it does.
A true five star resort. The service, food, and ambiance of this place is fantastic. The golf course is world class as well. A staple in the San Diego community both for individuals, group events, and corporate needs. One of the few places where the high price is worth what you get for it!Most recently we had a business lunch here with a mix of appetizers and entrees. The food and service were at the high level Ive consistently experienced in the past!
What a wonderful weekend in Del Mar! I hadn’t been to San Diego in years and was really looking forward to my visit with family. We could not have chosen a better property to stay at. The beautiful drive down the golf course lined road which then opens up to a fantastic fountain and a valet team at the ready. We dropped off our items with Saman who not only took them to our room but even hung up our jackets! The lobby greeted us with very elegant charm and an amazing floral display! Estelle at the front desk not only warmly checked us in but ensured we could find our way around and had everything we needed. I loved the feel of the whole hotel, all the seating areas were comfortable and the staff was friendly. I went to the pool and the water was a perfect temperature, even for a high cloud day. When I got out the pool attendant had left me ice water and a menu - that was unexpected and thoughtful! My family cannot rave enough about Andrew at the lobby bar. His hospitality and delicious cocktails made us keep coming back for more. We had lunch on the patio overlooking where they were setting up for a wedding. I would have loved to experience that! Gently billowing sheers, huge flower displays and a beautiful park like area - lucky bride and groom! We will certainly look forward to coming back here.
This review is a little late as we stayed at the GDM at the end of January 2023. As always, we had a wonderful time! The GDM is our favourite hotels/resort of the Fairmont family , and we try to visit at least once a year, if not twice for an extended stay. The grounds are always beautiful, staff are great, and we enjoyed the pools and tennis courts on many occasions. My 3 year old daughter loved meeting the horses, but what made her feel most special was thanks to Casey, who delivered a plate of cookies to our room from the Fairmont Cookie Monster! It was a such a nice surprise after our day at Sesame Place - she loves Cookie Monster and it made her day even more special! In addition to Casey, Juan at Guest Services also made our stay feel very special as he was always looking out for us and making sure that we were well taken care of. And of course, both Kai and Mia at the front desk were always so kind and helpful. These individuals - Casey, Juan, Mia, and Kai certainly represent the highest standards and is why we always choose Fairmont, and especially the Grand Del Mar. We look forward to our next stay at the GDM. Thank you to you all!
I attended a conference at this hotel and spent 5 nights. I have never attended a hotel like this before, but it was a great experience. Some notable features of the hotel:Extremely friendly staff in all areas-every single interaction was very polite and helpful.Incredible housekeeping- I cant emphasize this enough, our housekeeper was incredible. Most hotels just make your bed and change the towels and trash. The Fairmont housekeeper folded our clothes, arranged our shoes in a row, organized our toiletries in the shower and on the bathroom counter, literally no detail was left undone.Complimentary services-bicycles, water bottles, car service to the local towns, fitness center and exercise classes. I would recommend taking advantage of these services if youre paying for this 5 star hotel experience.Beautiful atmosphere both inside and out-the hotel was gorgeous, the rooms were gorgeous, the outside was well maintained. Now for the potential areas for improvement. We loved our stay, but there was one thing I noticed that would be helpful for management to know: the staff, while very nice and helpful, did not seem fully knowledgeable about which departments covered which things. For example, we decided to do a 1 hour guided hike. We went to the correct location at the right time, and there was no instructor. There was another family there waiting, and they told us that they had also waited there the day before and the guide never showed up. Fortunately our guide did show up a few minutes later and off we went on our hike. Also, we had some confusion with the bicycle rental. I called the valet/car service phone number and they told me that concierge did the booking. Then they transferred me to the front desk, who said that usually someone else did the booking but they could help book and just to come to the front desk when scheduled to start. We went to the desk a few minutes later, and were told that the front desk doesnt manage bikes and that we needed to go outside to rent the bikes. Just a lot of confusion, maybe the staff are new and still learning. It didnt detract from our trip, but it could be improved. Also, for guests that might be considering a splurge for this hotel- this hotel would NEVER be in my budget except for that my employer paid for my main expenses. Something I underestimated was just how expensive everything else was around the resort. The restaurants and bars at the resort, including the coffee shop and pool food, are very expensive even for California standards. Everything was good, dont get me wrong, it was just a lot of money. Also, if you want to bring a car you have to pay a daily parking fee, and if you dont bring a car youll be either taking car service or an Uber into town to get food, or eating in the hotel. So that adds to your expenses. Im sure this is normal for a hotel like this, but it was just a little eye opening for me as this isnt usually the kind of place I stay. All in all I had a fantastic time and I would definitely come back to the Fairmont Grand Del Mar!
I was staying at this place as a participant in Robb Report Culinary Masters event. I tremendously enjoyed it as this hotel managed to be a perfect host. The staff was very friendly, and they handled all questions and requests promptly and efficiently. Im glad the organizers picked Grand Del Mar for this event. As far as the room is concerned, it was quite large with a sitting area and a working desk. The mattress was super comfortable and so were the pillows. There were high quality toiletries, slippers, bath robes, Nespresso machine, and pretty much everything else you expect to see at a 5-star hotel. Wi-Fi was free and the signal was very strong everywhere. In the future Ill definitely stay at this hotel again.
What a refreshing staycation! We were lucky enough to get a reservation for the Memorial Day weekend, and appreciated the hotel for not overbooking in response to Covid and everything reopening. It made everything feel so much safer. The hotel grounds were very nice and well kept, and the rooms had so much attention to detail. However, we were super impressed with the amenities and activities available. I don’t even know where to start! For starters, we were graced with a complimentary dessert delivered to our door upon check in. Additionally, the hotel offers outdoor movie nights, which caters to younger crowds. But it was so well planned with blankets and heat lamps that the experience was enjoyable for all ages. We also enjoyed the little ice cream parlor and appreciate the s’mores kits that can be used along the fire pits. Also notable was the live music provided by the talented Jackie Foster. It was like a private concert, one of the highlights of the stay. They have archery, tennis, hikes around the property, and a very nice, quiet adult pool for a really relaxing experience. Food was really good, haven’t been to a restaurant in months, so it was an interesting experiment to get back to normal.Overall, we were super impressed with the attention to detail from every aspect, and most importantly the staff was super gracious and everybody worked incredibly hard to make this reopening happen. Special thanks to the recreation director Kelly, and Dominic and Jake for their hard work. Will be back soon!
The best rooms! Posh bathroom with soaker tub, separate shower, & separate water closet. The room has plenty of drawer space, & super comfy bed. Friendly, professional, attentive staff. We loved our three nights here!!
I would give this resort more than 5 stars if I could. Absolutely every aspect was top-notch. Every employee you encounter is exceptionally courteous and friendly - they really go out of their way to ensure that your stay is special and memorable. Sure, this isnt the cheapest resort, but you will absolutely leave your stay feeling that you got your moneys worth. This was my first stay at the resort, but I cant wait to come back again soon!
I booked directly with the hotel through their reservations agent. I worked with Heidi and she was extremely helpful as we were figuring out the best dates and set up golf during our stay. From the moment we arrived (and got upgraded!) until they helped us pack our cars to go every part of our stay was spectacular both service and quality of the resort itself. The golf course is top notch too. I travel frequently and this stay was one of my best. Cant recommend highly enough.
I didnt stay here, because I was just doing a quick business meeting here. Visually, it was nice. There were a lot more than normal, people who had french accents. I DID notice that the people of darker hue like me, was sparse.
Spent my birthday here. Impeccable service. Beautiful rooms. Absolutely stunning property. Pools are wonderful, clean and heated. Amazing tennis courts and outdoor gym for during COVID. Staff is very attentive and polite. Architecture is marvelous. Truly pampering getaway. The cafe was underwhelming. I would not expect microwaved, pre-made food at a place like this - even for a “grab and go” option. The one thing I will say, it is very difficult to find the family pool area and tennis courts/outdoor gym the first time you are going there. I also never understood the “trails” and was wandering around the golf routes trying to find them.It was a bit frustrating, I spent a good amount of time lost and wandering around the hotel asking at least 2-3 staff members for directions before someone gave me a map of the property. At any other place, I wouldn’t even bring this up, but for the price point and caliber of this place - would expect someone to just walk me there instead of having me cut through the outdoor restaurant during fancy dinner time in my shorts trying to go for a swim 🤷🏻♀️
By far one of the nicest 5 star resorts in the world. If you have the opportunity to stay here do so. Staff are well trained and are looking for chances to help and serve you. We showed up to the restaurant just before close for a quick cocktail and were told to feel free to order food and stay as long as we liked. Unmatched service across the resort. Includes a Michelin rated restaurant and a world class golf course. If you are looking for privacy and luxury this is the place to be.
The Fairmont Grand Del Mar now tops my list as my favorite stay. My wife and I visited for our anniversary and booked a beautiful room overlooking the adult pool. A few activities I recommend! We had dinner at Addison. This dining experience was luxurious in every way. I can guarantee you that you will not find a more unique experience of food, professional staff and ambiance. We upgraded to the waygu steak and the end of the meal. Prepare to pay over $1,000 for the meal with drinks..worth every penny. We loved riding the rental bikes around the beautiful land that Fairmont owns. If we had more time, I would of checked out all the cool trails they had to offer. The pool was amazing. It was a surreal moment when you dive under the water to find music fill your ears being played. We visited the nearby Del Mar beach and the staff provided us towels, beach chairs etc and later visited one paseo shopping center. We loved waking up in the AM and ordering room service. I have to say that it was always delivered in a timely manner! Huge shoutout to Mark at the bar at Amaya for saving our last impression exit as we were disappointed our reservation for pickle ball was double booked. Although we were unable to play, Mark gave us a great experience to continue our enjoyment of a morning and even Comp’d a Bloody Mary! We hope to book and come back immediately with the kids. They have an awesome family pool and playhouse available for the children.
Very nice property BUT expected more for the price paid. We paid for an upgraded room on top of the standard king bed fee, and was not told when checking in the car parking was $45/day on top of the $49 resort fee (pretty pricey since we only used the internet connection). For what the room costs, it was a bit annoying. When we used the bathtub, the drain did not work and maintenance had to come fix it, you would think things like this would be checked bout before allowing guests. Lighting by the bed was very low when set to full, and made it VERY difficult to read, which we like to do. Although the staff was excellent, I cannot recommend the property as there are far better deals. Expected more.......
4 day business trip - Staff, rooms, layout of the hotel, decor, dining - all fabulous. So relaxing and accommodating. Concierge staff especially helpful. Was able to hike from the hotel into a nearby park, take uber or hotel shuttle into town for dining, a short drive to the coast and La Jolla. Stayed in a suite, which had two bathrooms (large!), two balconies, numerous sitting areas, 4 TVs...coffee was great - espresso machine and hot water pot for tea. Would definitely stay here again and highly recommend.
This is a beautiful property! Highly recommend this place, very friendly and accommodating staff. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Even when we had an issue with the experience, the prompt response was very reassuring.
This place was amazing! I’m counting down the days I can come back. The staff was absolutely top notch, and so kind and warm! You’re greeted by name and are not just some number to them. The property is magical. The room was immaculate. My only recommendations would be, for the spa. I can’t give it a fair review because of COVID restrictions, much of it is closed. It’s connected to the outdoor adult pool and hot tub. But honestly just isn’t on par with the type of spa experience I was hoping for. It’s also an “adult” pool, but the idea is kind of ruined when little children are staying in the rooms with patios over looking the pool, and screaming outside on their patios.I would also recommend updating the TVs. It was pretty disappointing to not be able to stream whatever shows I wanted. And the bathroom TVs look at least 15 years old.None of these things though affect my wonderful stay here. The spa experience/massages were still absolutely wonderful.I also wish they had told me about the fireside lounge having music till 10. I was on the side of the hotel that I could hear the music loudly. I would have much rather left the windows open and heard the frogs and crickets at night instead; I’m a fan of the quiet.
Definitely a 5 star resort in every way you can think, from amenities to staff to price. Some of the rooms are a long walk from anything, but you didnt come here to be in a hurry.Beautiful location where you feel like youre far away from the normal stresses of life and have been transported to the Italian countryside. The buildings are historic, well maintained, and they obviously look after every detail.Like a largr Mediterranean Villa, the building is winding and rambling and will take some time to get to know your way around. On the other hand, you often discover something else wonderful when you take a wrong turn. Again.I regret that I didnt get a chance to hit the golf course. Maybe next time.
One of the best resorts I have experienced for a long time! Gorgeous rooms, beautiful grounds and fantastic service! I spent an afternoon at their lovely spa and adults-only relaxation pool. We had the Spring tasting menu at Le Salon at Addison- it was divine! A big shout out to Mindy in the concierge team- she went above and beyond to enhance our experience! I cant wait to come back and stay for longer.
The property is gorgeous. I was attending a work holiday party in the hole ballroom and was pleased with the facility, the staff, and the kitchen. The buffet fed about ~500 and the menu was solid: beef, chicken, and duck with great sides like maple yams and roasted Brussels sprouts. The only food misses of the evening were the lobster bisque which wasnt terribly rich and the damp salad croutons. On the other hand, Cypress Hill played a great set and the open bar was well stocked. Overall, I would recommend the banquet facilities for any event.
Incredible grounds, facility, and staff. Went for an annual meeting of a surgical society and this was the perfect venue. The conference/banquet halls was spacious and luxurious. Amenities, including hiking trails, the pool, group fitness classes, and the driving range were convenient and serene. This resort is designed to allow guests to fully enjoy all that Fairmont has to offer.
Very disappointed with the coffee shop. I ordered a gelato and I got a few little ribbon scrapes off the top of the gelato container in a tiny cup for $6. I had to take it back and complain. The coffee was okay, the service there was not so great. Its gone downhill. Have been going there a long time. Everything is overpriced.
Beautiful property— elegant, incredible service and very spacious. Would definitely recommend for a quiet getaway! The property isn’t walking distance to much anything else which makes it perfect for a staycation or secluded getaway. If you’re craving the beach, Torrey pines state reserve is about a 10 minute drive from the valet to the sand.
One night stay, had an excellent experience. It was our anniversary, and it felt like everyone had been notified, made us feel special. Exceptionally elegant hotel, and the staff was fantastic. Ate at Amaya because the Addison was booked, and we weren’t disappointed. Highly recommend if you’re looking for luxury accommodations.
Fairmont Grand Del Mar - OUTSTANDING! There are not enough stars for this hotel/resort. We just stayed at this hotel last week. What an absolutely amazing best kept secret resort. It was our first visit to California (from Montreal). The arrival and checkin was so welcoming. Once we step foot inside the hotel it truly is breathtaking. Then we went to our room. The rooms are over 550sqft and a true oasis. Super silent rooms, furniture beautiful and the bed was heavenly.Royalty services, Elizabeth, was amazing, responding to all questions and requests within minutes. We wnjoyed the huge grounds, the awesome pool & bar and the super big fire pit in the evening. We ordered room service and the food was excellent. Our wedding anniversary was exceptionally special thanks to Fairmont! My favorite hôtels.I DEFINITELY hope to return one day again. This hotel is on my top 10 list!
Nothing can describe the place other than pure luxury and service. Staff were hyper attentive, pleasant and thoughtful. The rooms in itself were gorgeous with impeccable room service and thoughtful add ins.Wonderful restuarant with an even amazing bar! Food was alright, drinks were spot on. No hassle throughout the stay and it felt very welcoming
A palatial hotel where beauty and royalty is embedded in every aspect! This ultra luxurious property leaves no stone unturned in delighting the guests, and even sports hiking trails, golf courses, tennis courts and horse stables within premises! An experience of a lifetime!🙌
Course layout is very challenging and well designed, but extremely overpriced. It was helpful to have a caddie. Great practice facility. Facility is well maintained, but there are no views of anything besides houses, so this was disappointing. Staff are extremely courteous and friendly. It was a good one time golf experience, but not likely to return.
Went for a work event and the service was excellent, all the staff was friendly, place looks great outside and in, will definitely need to get a room next time I visit
Very ornate architecture and decoration everywhere you look. Beautiful buildings and grounds. Helpful and friendly staff. Great service. Food was quite good depending on what you order. Service for lunch was good but slow. Not the place to get a quick meal, but definitely perfect for sitting outside with a nice view and taking your time with your meal. Feels very exclusive due to the gated drive leading up to the main entrance. The relaxation pool is adults only and beautifully situated away from children and noise. Huge hot tub with luxury seating. Very quiet and relaxing throughout.
“Resort” is going down fast in the last few years! While room prices are up over 50%, services and attention to detail are down 50%. Rooms are getting old and tired. The Villas are falling apart with upkeep and gardening non existent. The resorts workout center is undergoing renovations during the high season and is closed. Massage therapists at the Spa are terrible and overpriced. Small amenities like lemonade by check in and chocolates during turndown service are gone. This is what happens when a resort is purchased by a private equity firm just looking to make a few dollars on a resale. Management needs to wake the f#*% up!
I attended a dinner appreciation event. The Fairmont Grand Del Mar dinner was prime rib, potatoes au gratin , and asparagus salad. The dinner was average. The dessert was amazing it was caramel tart. The hotel grounds are beautiful well manicured and I was greeted by valet service. The interior of the hotel was very clean loved all the exterior windows I had to ask for directions its very large area and I needed help finding my location. The staff was impeccable and the rest rooms were clean.
I’m currently a guest at this hotel and staying for another night. This has been one of the worst hotel experience of my life, and I travel a lot because my aunt is a travel agent. When we arrived, we called 5 times for them to bring our luggage. They kept saying they’d bring it but never did. Finally after 3 hours I had to go to the bell desk and grab the cart and bring it myself. Meanwhile my baby was crying non-stop because her milk was there and we had none of her diapers to change her. Since then it’s been one thing after another. I cannot wait to tell my aunt to warn all her client travelers about this placeUPDATE: The hotel responded claiming that someone was in contact with me but this is a lie. To this moment, I have yet to hear from anyone affiliated with the hotel.
The property is amazing, the rooms are great and Concierge helped us get to the airport as fast as we can so we wont miss our flights. We got our money stolen from our rooms but Mike went above and beyond to take care of us.
What an incredible experience! I dont know where to start.... I have stayed at numerous 5 star & 5 diamond properties (including Ritz Carltons) and the Fairmont Grand Del Mar wins top honors in every category. Convention and common space is exquisite, rooms are spacious and have all the luxuries, & the property itself is world class and very private. The room service was exceptional and the food was fresh. Above all those things was the great people! Everyone greeted me with a warm smile and friendly face. All were eager to help! I hope to stay here again soon! Thanks and keep up the ☆☆☆☆☆ work😁.
We had an amazing one of a kind experience at Fairmont Delmar . We enjoyed the world class spa and food is outstanding. All the rooms are very very luxurious, spacious, suite-like & grounds are meticulously kept. We felt like we had the place to ourself , but learned they were full capacity! Definitely will be back next time we are in San Diego !!! There is absolutely nothing negative to say about this property.
Beautiful rooms and top service 👌🏻
Tranquil oasis with all the luxury amenities one could desire (large rooms, marble bathrooms, comfortable bedding, friendly and helpful staff, ample food options). I stayed for over a week and one key feature I noticed enhanced the stay was their coffee/snack/cafe shop which was open from 6 am to 5 pm. Having a place where you can grab a snack (Justin almond butter, banana, chocolate, smoothie, fruit bars) was key to an enjoyable stay, as the property itself is not within walkable distance to non-Fairmont stores. When you do want to go off-property they have a complimentary car service (bmw X7). Pools were warm even on chillier days and spa services were top notch. The message therapists were knowledgeable and offered guidance on stretches to create long term improvements. The spa shop had a good offering of men’s clothes (lululemon, alo, on running). Fairmont Del Mar sits near the center of 400 acres, buffering you from the daily hustle and bustle of life. While near San Diego, you could just as easily be in a country estate 100 miles from the nearest city. Enjoyable retreat.
Definitely the nicest hotel Ive been to in the US. Not exactly stiff competition but still. Prices are another story though. Maybe hit up the grocery store before you stay here.
This resort style hotel serves up all the feels of old money and traditional hospitality. The grounds are flawless, the rooms are divine and the hotel staff is impeccably attentive. If you’re looking to plan an event you’ll be assured to have assistance throughout and never disappointed. If it’s a resort-style living vacation you seek, you’ll surely never want to leave. The food and beverage choices are delightful. The pools, sandy beach area, cabana and fire pits set a vibe that says r e l a x and e n j o y yourself. This is a pooch friendly hotel that even has a beautifully landscaped walking trail. Let’s not even mention if you’re a golfer!!!! Hello! The beds offer the most gorgeous sleep one could dream of and there is plenty to do on-site as well as around the city. Last but not least, wear that bathrobe because it’s In closing, if you’re looking to pamper yourself and feel spoiled this is a perfect location. XOXO
Genuine and personable staff in every aspect of this resort make for a really relaxing and pleasurable stay. We had a dinner party on the wine cellar, which was delicious and very special, with attention to detail that was subtle, not showy, and made for a very memorable birthday for my husband! Highly recommend.
Really enjoyed my visit there. The grounds are immaculate and service is excellent. We dont golf, but a lot of people are there for golfing. We took advantage of the horseback riding - first time on a horse. It was really fun and the guide was excellent. The location is outside of downtown SD and outside major touristy La Jolla, but close enough to visit everything. It was great to be at the hotel just to relax and be in a beautiful environment. We only ate at the Amaya and didnt eat at their other restaurants. Amaya was just ok, in my opinion. It was very good food, but I was expecting it to wow me, which it didnt. I eat out a lot in NYC and it wasnt quite the same. Regardless, for the overall hotel experience, I still give the hotel 5 stars!
An absolute beautiful property tucked away in Del Mar with a fantastic spa, pool and a professional golf course. A great getaway for a romantic weekend as a couple or a trip with your friends for a golf excursion.Everything was spectacular except the restaurant on property (Amaya) was seriously suffering from a service perspective. Dinner took well over 2 hours, they overcooked my pork chop beyond the point of ediablity, to which they brought out another that was better, but still overcooked. They did comp most of the meal, so I will hold giving them a review until I can get back there and give them another try.
I have not stayed here but I have photographed slots of weddings here as well as I come to dine or for brunch and I love how beautiful this place is
Dont stay at this hotel. They treat their customers very poorly. Rude front desk, waters had not been changed in the rooms from the previous guest, food at the pool takes 50+ minutes to arrive. I will not be staying here in the future and I dont recommend anyone else too either.
I played a wonderful round of golf at the Grand, followed by drinks in the restaurant. The grounds and course are absolutely top notch. Our experience was enhanced tremendously by our caddie, Joe. After a wonderful round, we enjoyed a couple rounds of drinks in the restaurant. The staff was warm and welcoming. Overall, the experience was fantastic.
We stayed at this hotel last weekend for our 20th anniversary. The grounds are stunning and the room was very nice. We enjoyed dinner at Amaya as well. The service from hotel staff was ok. Nothing particularly wrong but also nothing particularly impressive. We chose this hotel because of reviews on this site that spoke to impeccable service. Unfortunately we just did not experience this ourselves. We found the service to be quite average and for the cost of our stay frankly disappointing.
Very relaxing stay with impeccable service by knowledgeable staff. It was ni e to enjoy late night drinks by the pool watching night sky. I would bring my family back to this lovely place for a special occation. Specifically i had enjoyed excellent California wines! Staff - thanks for making our stay so enjoyable!
Absolutely the best place I have ever stayed. Very luxurious! Its absolutely gorgeous and the staff is very friendly. Room cleaning\turn down twice a day. My sons clothes that he left laying on a chair were even folded. Very nice.
Old world European elegance and excellent, competent service without the stuffiness. Beautiful, serene grounds with great food and hiking trails. Definitely one of my favorite escapes from the ills of the world, to decompress, get refreshed and reinvigorated.
I booked two days for my family to celebrate my birthday. Unfortunately I left my cloth and my son’s fluffy toy in the hotel. I left at 11am, and call back at 2 pm for request if housekeeping can find or keep at lost and found . But no response ever in the 3days 3calls, still no answer, always let me wait the call back. But not receive any call back . I am very care about my son’s puppy toy. He sleep with it every night like best family , that’s made him so sad. I do believe housekeeping has always through into trash . When I travelled in Hong Kong, I left my hair rubber band in the hotel, they had called me back ask if I need come back to take or don’t need anymore. Contrast make me very disappointed with here.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms were a good size and cleaned often. The bathroom was nice minus the shower. Not enough water and pressure. The pool and hot tub were nice. The gym was very well equipped with equipment. Overall very nice place.
Overall, great long July 4th weekend trip with family to San Diego. This luxury resort has all the amenities so that you would not have to leave grounds and still remain busy with activities like golf, tennis, pickleball, archery and equestrian activities; not to mention the spa. Staff was 99% gracious, helpful and friendly to include valets, kitchen, concierge, rooms, and reception. There was one reception staff, straight blonde hair taller of two blondes during the day who was very abrupt and not friendly at all. The resort did experience a hiccup with main waterpipe burst and no shower water over Saturday night. Will definitely come again if visiting San Diego. Location is great to foods, shopping, beach and hikes.
Beautiful hotel, and incredible top-notch service
The property is surrounded with well kept golf course, greenery and trees. However the hotel interior is dated and dark. It does need a face-lift.
Ive stayed here countless times and had business meetings here. I refer all my north county visitors and clients here. The food is great, the atmosphere is peaceful. One of the best hotel secrets in San Diego. This is what a 5 star hotel is supposed to be. Every detail is taken care of. This hotel is set back. Private. The word you think of is truly grand and quiet. There are beautiful lounges and live lounge music, a club M, lovely pools. My friend walks there every day to work. Nice business center and you do not have to be a guest to use their services. As you drive up the long driveway entrance, the spacious grounds instantly relax you. The rooms are gorgeous. Nice golf course too. Perfection. Now for anyone who stays here, you will need a car to get around but Carmel Valley is central to everything in San Diego. You are ten minutes from Del Mar cliffs for sunset and Del Mar Beach, 15 to the race track, 15 minutes to La Jolla cove, 10 minutes form Torrey Pines and to other great golf courses, 20 mins to the airport. If you want to go to downtown one night, fine, but downtown is not my scene. Balboa Park 15-20 mins. Carlsbad is 20 mins north. So it is the best of all worlds.
From the moment you pull in, the guest service is second-to-none. You can tell the Fairmont truly appreciates their guests and cares about their experience. Every detail was spectacular and we were impressed with every interaction and every amenity provided. We would definitely look forward to another stay here for a special occasion or rewarding getaway in the future. The decor in the rooms are ornate and appropriate for the 5 star resort. You can tell it is not the goal to have the most modern look in our room, and that is more than okay with us! We can go to a much more accessible hotel chain for sterile clean lines and boring muted colors. The Fairmont Grand Del Mar has a very special look and feel in the rooms and all around, which is the experience you look for in a 5 star resort.
This hotel is the most amazing hotel in Del Mar. The staff is incredible, the views are amazing, it is without a doubt a wonderful place to stay. The staff are all amazing. They go above and beyond to help you and the servers are amazing. Especially Valdemar at Amaya. The housekeepers are the best. Every time they clean it looks amazing. The tennis courts are the best if you play. You just have to call and reserve a time with the concierge. The whole place closes at 9pm. Even the adult pool, which was surprising, but I think if youre quiet you can stay a little longer. If you ever get the chance, definitely stay here.
Had a 3 day stay here this past weekend. We stayed in the King Bed Suite with the Terrance. Overall had a good day but I would say they are lacking in some general things (that a 5 star resort like the fairmont really shouldn’t be).Pros:1) Beautiful grounds2) Huge rooms!3) Dlbert was very attentive and wonderful to work with! Very patient with my son. Most of the people who work here is very politeCons:1) One of the servers at the poolside wasn’t the most pleasant to work with. I understand that my 23 month old autistic son can be a bit energetic. She said a lil comment to my son, “if you don’t behave, you will not get any pizza.” I understand it wasn’t completely serious but just keep those kinds of comments to yourself next time please.2) The towels poolside were consistently empty. This really shouldn’t be the case at a resort like this. Everything should be aplenty.3) The food service at Amaya was just generally wayyyy too slow. Maybe it’s understaffed? But to wait 40 mins for eggs and bacon to come out this morning for my son is a bit too much.4) No late night room service (we were craving Some food around 1030PM but nothing was available).5) Some services we were looking forward to like the equestrian and shuttle to Del Mar were not available.6) also check in could have been better. The resort is huge and some info ab how to navigate it, where the restaurants are, etc would have been nice. We were lost and calling the front desk so often trying to figure out what’s openI don’t know if I would come again but maybe once things go back to normal and they are working at full capacity, I might try again? A lot of Potential.
From our arrival welcome from Diana, to Mike at valet and Colby at the poolside bar all the way to Cindy at the Spa and Joseph at The Grand golf course you made our honeymoon better than our wildest dreams. Cindys massage was more than just a relaxation tactic but she was kind and thoughtful and insightful and completely knew what I needed and was absolutely a treasure. Colby and Mike were awesome guys would definitely be people I would hope to befriend if I ever make it back to your hotel aka paradise. Thank you for the best 4 days of our lives. We will never forget it. Sincerely, The Miller’s from 314 June 3-7, 2021. Thank you so so so much.
I received a voucher for a one night stay and breakfast for 2 at this facility. I stayed there on December 5, 2020. Checking in was very simple but nothing was explained. The lady who checked me in was not so friendly and very standoffish. She did not explain anything to me. I wanted at least more information on our breakfast situation but when I asked her all she said was that starting Monday 12/7, they will not be serving breakfast. I re-asked at a later time and a gentlemen had the same standoffish attitude. I had to explain that I had a voucher for free breakfast and he finally explained where I can get the breakfast. Even then, he briefly gave me the basic information and that was all.The actual rooms itself were okay. The TVs were outdated. There were a couple of stains on some of the furniture. There were regular towels placed on the floor that made the bathroom really tacky. The overall amenities of the room were below average and can be compared to any average cost hotel. When I booked the actual room, the lady who helped me asked what view I would like and I said anything with a great view and she responded saying that every view is a great view at their facility. Our view was just some trees blocking the golf course.I had breakfast at the Amaya restaurant. The lady seated us right away promising that we will get an shade cover since it was really sunny that day. Our waiter finally comes after 5-8 mins of us sitting in and he finally asks us what we would like to drink. Still no shade cover. I finally had to ask him if we can get the shade cover as promised and he seemed like he was not aware of it and finally did it for us. The food is beyond average for how much it cost.I would say the only pro about this place is the privacy you get. I would not pay the full amount to stay at this place if I was deciding based on the rooms, the service, or the amenities.
“I would give it 6 out of 5!”We loved our stay at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar and will be back. It is luxurious, relaxing and special. The decor is traditional, but faultless. The hotel isnt by the sea, about 10mins from Del Mar. The rooms are very well appointed and maintained. We spent a lot of time at the adult only spa pool, just what we needed to warm up after a cold UK winter. Nick who looks after guests at the pool is truly superb. A real asset to the hotel. He takes care of beds, umbrellas, food and drinks. Hes attentive but super polite and knows exactly when to ask if you need anything. At the weekend when the warm weather came as forecast he managed a busy time and demanding guests/ members well. (Cant actually believe fairmont dont put more help on when it is busy).I had a spa treatment (reflexology) which was great. Very relaxing and personalised experience. The spa areas are segregated (different areas for men and women). In the womens area theres a sauna, steam room and big hot tub. All the extras are nicely done, you really dont need to take anything with you (from apples, to mouthwash, to combs, to shampoo). Its pricey but worth it.The coffee shop and staff there are great. Coffee is really good and if you want a snack its a good quick option.Service has been excellent throughout (with only Amaya just not being quite right). Even before we arrived I got great help from the reservation and concierge team.Lovely walks around the property and alongside the golf course. Large pool are with 2 or 3 pools for families too. Two well kept tennis courts and good size gym. Its beautifully maintained and very tranquil. It really has been three days of peace, warmth and bliss.A few things that could be better but really didnt affect how much we love this place...- we had a deluxe veranda king room, which I thought would be nice to sit on the terrace and enjoy sun/ view. We had neither sun or a view on our side of the hotel. Not worth paying extra for.- we had to wait over 2 hours for our room to be ready. We arrived at 2.30pm they said they would call and we could wait at the spa pool. We didnt get a call and at 4.30 decided enough waiting was enough. Turns out the room was ready, but they had taken the wrong mobile number (and couldnt walk to tell us).- last day wed requested a late checkout before we head to the airport. This wasnt possible because of a large convention arriving that day. We asked to use a courtesy room to shower, also not possible because of the convention. So we asked to use the spa to shower, $40 each. I mean really?!?! This isnt good for a luxury spa hotel. Eventually after persistent negotiation we got our room until 2pm. We didnt need to leave until 4 but this was a better compromise.- separate review of Amaya. I think this restaurant could be great but is just short of good at the moment. If you have breakfast there (there isnt a buffet breakfast) allow plenty of time!Stayed January 2017, traveled as a couple
Given the fact that were still into pandemic, I would say service was still good even if theyve cut back on the frequency of housekeeping maintenance. Their best asset are their hospitality staff (friendly, accommodating). I would come back to this property!
Id like to preface this review by stating that I am not a picky man. I am happy to sleep in any clean motel/hotel just as happy as Id be to stay in a 5-star resort as long as the pricing is commensurate with the cost. The Fairmont Grand was nice, but not worth the cost.My wife and I stayed at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar for a wedding. We arrived later on a Saturday evening, and were escorted to our room by a kind bell-hop. Our room was very comfortable. My wife and I slept well, and honestly the hotel offered some of the best pillows Ive ever sunk my head into. Absolutely no complaints there. We ate at the hotel a few times, and the food is my biggest issue:* We ordered room service for the following mornings breakfast including a daily assortment of bread for $16 - this was a single muffin and a croissant. These were good, but not worth $16. Room service also included a leaky carafe of coffee, so coffee leaked onto the table and carpet upon first pour.* We ate lunch at Amaya, a restaurant at the hotel. I ordered an Ahi Tuna sandwich, which the waiter described as one of the best sandwiches Id ever have. It wasnt a bad sandwich, but for $30 I expected something much better.* There is an ice cream parlor near one of the pools, where my wife and I grabbed a scoop of ice cream and popcorn. The ice cream was good, but the popcorn was stale (which was a surprise, considering the attendant there said that they just popped it). Again this didnt ruin the stay, but it wasnt worth the almost $20 we paid for it.The hotel itself is beautiful (the library is particularly stunning), but there were strange details I wouldnt expect in a 5-star hotel. There were paint scuffs in hallways, shaky door handles, and other signs that the hotel was not kept up well.I dont want to totally discount the Fairmont. It is a wonderful hotel, and the staff we interacted with there were super helpful. If you stay there, it will undoubtedly be comfortable. This all said, I still find that the price was not worth the value of the stay.
My husband and daughters attended a wedding and wedding reception this weekend at the Fairmont Hotel in Del Mar. The grounds, banquet room, lobby ambiance, etc was exquisite and the service was first rate. The staff couldnt have been more helpful. I let one waiter know I was a vegetarian and was so pleased how he remembered my dietary needs.
Incredible resort and the service was incredible. The whole family were taken care of perfectly. It was the best vacation ever.
Definitely my favorite hotel. Hands down. Rooms were HUGE and luxurious, had great family (and adult only) pools, gardens were beautiful, lobby and lounge areas were stellar, equestrian horse trails were nice and good for hiking (horses were cute,) food was great (a little pricy.) Housekeeping was AMAZING and they always brought up treats (Oreos, cookies, and eucalyptus scented towels.) I would definitely go here again in a heartbeat! Love the Grand Del Mar!
