Bang Bang - San Diego

Had a good time, and went to grab a few drinks with some friends... a nice atmosphere, and good music. Unfortunately, the mood was disrupted by one of the hostesses constantly reminding us that the table next to us was reserved which we fully understood and expressed to her on more than one occasion. A group of about 15 (us) exited because of how uncomfortable she made us feel but everything else was ok...

Went by here at the mention of the concierge at the Grant Hotel.I guess it’s a sushi restaurant by day and a dance club my night.It was worth every penny.The food was excellent. The sushi was great. There are some interesting Nippon inspired drinks on the menu.Once food is over, the club picks up and it’s a really good experience.Highly reccommended.

Went for a good friends birthday dinner. Definitely loud! We were there at 830pm on a Saturday. Turns into a club after dinner. Our dessert got rushed because we were over time to clear the table for the dance floor. Food was excellent! Super fresh sushi. The only thing was the waygu in the appetizer was SUPER tough which was a bummer, still super tasty though! We ordered big, had a group of around 8 and bill was like 1300.

Bang Bang? More like Boy Bye..I had a terrible experience eating here. The ambiance is cool and it seems like it would be fun for the nightclub aspect but I do not recommend eating here. The cooks have absolutely no idea what they are doing.We ordered sushi, chicken katsu, and salmon. The sushi was ok but the chicken katsu was dry and flavorless. It tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. Also, they did not bring the slaw that was supposed to come with it. The disaster of the whole night was, however, the salmon. Everything about it was wrong. The rice was not coconut rice, it was jasmine. I did not get the steamed veggies it was supposed to come with, and to top it off the salmon was undercooked!! Gordon Ramsey would make a scene.The only good thing was that the server was extremely nice but overall this was one of the worst experiences I had in San Diego. They also overcharge for the shots so beware of that. Its a cool place but definitely just come here for drinks - the food is awful.

Went for happy hour with a couple of friends. We got there around 5:30 and were seated within 10 minutes. Got the spicy tuna from the hh menu (good) and salmon belly nigiri(great!). Drinks were pretty good. Wait staff was attentive, and were able to make alterations for a friends avocado allergy Atmosphere was cool, if a little dim and a little loud (as clubs typically are, but it was still 6pm and a dining area)

Nightclub meets sushi! I enjoyed this place for what it was, I love dance music and I love sushi. The decor is fun and memorable, even the bathrooms are entertaining. That being said its pretty loud and I dont think Id want to eat dinner here again. There was an obnoxious drunk guy dancing around the tables trying to get womens attention, not what I want when eating dinner. I had the hello kitty roll and it was very good. The service was great, our waitress was really lovely. We were celebrating 3 birthdays and they did not skimp on the free dessert! Just wish they had a vegan option, lol. The restaurant turns into a club and if youre there for dinner theyll give you wristbands, it wasnt really our vibe and we left right away after checking out the dancefloor though. Definitely a good place if you want to eat, drink and dance to untz untz untz.

We went here for my cousins birthday. Loved the rooms. Our server was awesome. If you want to go there for hangouts or get together this is a place.

We were there for drinks and a snack, not there for dinner. Interesting vibe with Japanese themed drinks and decor. The entrance was unique, Bartender was nice. The cocktails were all too sweet for me (Ryan gosling, cool as a cucumber). But they came in cute cups! The white ceramic cat is especially adorable. Our group got the crab dumplings and enjoyed the flavors.

We had a wonderful time celebrating our anniversary! Sushi was wonderful, our server was fun and the place looked a amazing! Loved the sake and One Night in Bangkok cocktail. I loved my Cobra Kai and Hello Kitty rolls. The amount Fuji dessert was fun as well.

Youre definitely not coming here for the food, because its below meh.However, the atmosphere is really nice. The music is on point, tables are nice, the dancing area is nice too. All the staff are well dressed and nice.

Seriously delicious sushi! I can’t wait to go back sometime for happy hour. The drinks are so well crafted. I love the entrance which is up a set of inconspicuous stairs. The inside of this place is gorgeous!

Made a great time for my wife and I on her birthday. Very loud and dark in there so don’t go for intimate conversation. But accommodating and fun environment. After around 9 or so turns into a club so be sure to get there early if you want to sit down.

Came here for some food and drinks at around 9, turns into a club at around 10:30pm. We sat by the bar, which all the bartenders were super nice and accommodating. For food: had the wings (must try), sushi and nigiri sampler. The cocktails were also very tasty- need a wifey, was what I got. Super delicious.The night we went was house/electronic music, not sure if that’s always the case. But very cute atmosphere, definitely check it out!

Cool bar, overpriced, loose rolls and not very tasty. Costco rolls are better. The beef fried rice needs more flavor and better fry, the rice seemed too wet. The drinks were very good and so were the wings. Won’t be back.

I wanted to LOVE this place. And I did love the service and atmosphere. Unfortunately, however, their food wasnt great. We ordered off the happy hour menu. The spicy yellowtail roll tasted NOTHING like yellowtail (and Ive been eating sushi for about 50 years.) It tasted like some random leftover fish (tuna maybe), marinated in the spicy stuff. And it was dry (go figure). The fried rice had no flavor. Zero. Only the tempura shrimp was good.Maybe the regular menu is better.The place is adorable, however. Cant beat the atmosphere here.

Came in after Pride Fest with a large party. The service was great, we enjoyed our buckets of Bud Light along with the cheesy, cheesy bang. Would definitely come back again soon.

Food was not amazing but good. I wouldn’t go out of my way but it’s great if your close. Long stairway to get to it (I didn’t see an elevator). Hip vibe, cool decor.

I think this place is a fun venue as a bar but I would highly recommend NOT to eat the sushi there. I should have known when they weren’t allowing patrons to sit at the sushi bar. Probably to hide the poor quality of sushi they were preparing. I was not feeling well digesting what they called “sushi.” The rice was dried up and stale as if they made the rice balls a week ago. I have literally had better sushi from a convenient store than here. Otherwise, great bar and fun place to meet. It is mostly a younger crowd.

Amongst all of the suggested review locations that were submitted we selected @bangbangsd for our first stop and it was ridiculously good! While its entrance is rather nondescript, all conventionality ends at its door’s threshold. Somehow it seems fitting that you immediately ascend upon your entrance because, unknowingly, the experience you are about to have will certainly be elevated above your expectations. Although our Review Team sincerely doubts that you could make an error when ordering off this menu, our shining stars this evening included the: Japanese Tea Pot, Warm Crab Hand Rolls, Creamy Fried Shrimp, and Bang Bang Chicken Katsu (and you need to dip that last one in the spicy mayo). Worst food I’ve ever had. I don’t know know how people can say it’s good you pay 25$For a 8$ roll . Place is dirty and grimy. Left thinking I’d get food poisoning and bill was over 300.

I wish I could give 0 stars.Bought tickets to an event here & you still have to stand in line with people who didn’t buy tickets. There’s no disclosure in the terms and conditions of ticketing purchases that says you’re not guaranteed entry. It’s ridiculous that they let dozens of people into the venue who didn’t purchase tickets, while selling tickets for $40 per person and not ensuring the capacity for the ticket holders to enter. Absolutely awful system and it’s a huge scam, disgusting business practices.

Great atmosphere and AMAZING SUSHI like I was seriously blown away, the vibe is very night club bar. I would recommend making a reservation as I was just lucky enough that the bar was open.

Go anywhere else. Julien the manager knew these girls who cut us in line and we said something, so they kicked us out because they said I went into the wrong restroom?? Had no proof and wouldn’t listen to anything I said. All I wanted was at least a refund. Unbelievable. Don’t come here. Save your money.

Terrible security, bad line setup, tickets are pointless as they oversell the venue to non ticket holders in the same line so the floor is packed worse than any other club in SD. Place has gone downhill in the last year. Stop letting massive groups cut your entire line.

Jesse was the best part of Bang Bang but so were the puffs and the karate kick roll. But actually, Jesse was so knowledgeable, attentive, and personable. 100/10 would recommend and visit again and again.

Really cool place....worth the effort to climb the stairs to get into the place. Fresh sushi...new types of rolls and great service....little pricey...but the normal for downtown San Diego.

I really enjoyed my roll, the environment and the service was attentive.The place has some good photo spots with spots of neon, the great lanterns and even the doofy AI art portraits of musicians are fun.My food was great! I got the Hello Kitty roll and it was best of all of the food my group of 6 got. It was fantastic. Everyone else had the Yama Gucci, the Kill Bill, fried rice, gyoza and a couple others I cant recall. The rolls are all fine but the price is offering you a little more than just fine so they were let down.That being said, the biggest disappointment were the orders of fried rice. One with egg and one without. They both had gone without any protein added in (the menu also says nowhere that you can add any to it. That knowledge only came from the wait staff. I opted to get a roll rather than the fried rice because I thought it just couldnt have a protein added.) It was bland and a little mushy.The music played inside was a great constant bpm that set a good and constant vibe in the place. Id go back again based on how good my specific order was.

If I could give it less stars I would. We were celebrating my niece’s 18th birthday and there were about 10 of us. The bill was $500. Mediocre service and one would think for $23 rolls of sushi, it would be exceptional. It was way below average. Then no more had 10 minutes gone by after we paid the bill and they literally told us to leave because there was another reservation. Save your money and go somewhere else. This place SUCKS. it’s rare that all of us agreed that we will never go back.

We went to this after seeing it in Instagram. To avoid crowds we went on Wednesday night and it was pretty empty. The music was chill and the decore was not bad, but felt like every other downtown bar/restaurant. Dark walls, gold lights around the bar, and some kitchy decore to make it stand out.The happy hour was well priced for downtown, but the sushi was mediocre at BEST. The regular menu items are basically the same thing spicy tuna and jalapenos rinse repeat.My sister got the chicken katsu plate and it was really plain, the sauces were out of a bottle and it wasnt worth it.The drinks were not bad, but Im glad we got the on happy hour.Despite what Instagram says I wouldnt recommend it, and Ive got to agree with the graffiti in the bathroom, I give it two years.I saw several reviews saying the service was bad, so I wanted to add that our server was awesome! She was very pleasant and prompt. I wish I had gotten her name, but she was great.

During our first visit to Bang Bang, the service provided by our waiter, Jesse, was outstanding. Jesses warm welcome, expert knowledge of the menu, and attentive yet unobtrusive service greatly enhanced our dining experience. His recommendations were delightful, and his personal touches made our evening truly memorable. We left feeling not just satisfied, but genuinely cared for.

Id come back! You can have dinner and go to the house/techno show for free right after if you ask your waiter for a wristband :) Very trendy restaurant for date night

Awesome place for yummy sushi and a fun vibe. The staff is awesome and the music is on point. Turns into a club on the weekends.

Bang Bang is definitely billed as a trendy place to go, but beyond that and more importantly the quality of the food and drink and the overall experience is really just excellent.First, the food, especially the Sushi rolls were some of the best weve had. The Kill Bill and Hello Kitty rolls especially were to die for, which is apt for at least one of them. The Bang Bang puffs and Tuna Tacos as appetizers/entrees were also amazing and tasty.We ended up trying one of their group alcohol drinks which is served in a heavy Japanese kettle and you get classic tea cups to serve the iced beverage in and besides being a fun way to present and drink a large communal cocktail, it was delicious and lasted the entire meal!Last, the decor is just a combination of beautiful and cool. Some great designs with Cherry Blossom Trees, but also a club atmosphere with Godzilla references around.I heard it turns into a night club after dinner service, but definitely dont skip out on the dinner and food because its fantastic!

If youre more interested in the vibe than the food than this is the place for you. I was pretty disappointed in the food overall. Ive had better take out sushi.

We did not have the best experience here and we were very sad because we were really looking forward to coming here. We sat at the bar for a while before we were asked what we wanted or even offered water. I asked for a Diet Coke and a water and the guy gave me attitude asking if I wanted them mixed together. The food was decent but the drinks were expensive and watered down.

I had the best experience at bang bang! My server Michael made sure me and my friends had the best night! He recommended all the best food/drinks and he was so excited about the nightclub that it really rubbed off on us! 10/10 will definitely be back

Terrible food, terrible drinks, and amateur service. It took an hour and twenty minutes to get two sushi rolls and the bar tender didnt know how to make a basic old fashioned. The one other drink we ordered was supposed to be served in a tea pot and instead came with a big spoon to scoop your drink that barely fit.The only thing that was decent was the Live music and decor. Super disappointed. I hate to see businesses regress this bad post pandemic. But it was terrible.

What a fun and instagrammable little spot! Came here with some friends just to listen to some music and check out their fun bathrooms I heard all about! It was a Friday night and we were able to walk right up, show IDs and enter the venue. You walk up stairs to get to the venue and there are two rooms. One room seemed very chill with some cute lanterns all over the ceiling and the other room was dark and definitely the dance/rave room. Maybe I am old but I could not see anything in there. The bathroom was super cool. There was no wait and juts like me others were there to gram it (yup, we are those girls). Each stall was themed and you could tell the theme from the outside door. Please be sure to check out the Ryan Gosling one! All in all, a fun time and chill vibe.

What an environment! Is all I can say, if your looking for a really cool , different , and unique experience I recommend bang bang, the atmosphere and service were great and they really do get packed so make sure you dont miss your reservation or they will cancel you, the food is ok to be honest over priced sushi for mid flavor , but great presentation 👌 didnt get a chance to go for the night club , so Ill be back for that

Cool ambiance for dinner. Menu was pretty standard as far as sushi/Japanese places go. Prices were about average as well. After dinner the place really starts to liven up a bit and turns into a fun club. Great place to start your night or work into your night of bar hopping throughout the Gaslamp District. (Be cautious of the stairs though!)

Weird vibe, servers didnt want us to take advantage of happy hour. Food and drinks were good.

Very hip, trendy kinda vibe. DJ was too loud for dinner, though. But a good place to celebrate bday (bec they give mochi ice cream) or just hang with friends. This is where we started our bar hopping night in Gaslamp.

Really cool atmosphere but got old after waiting for our food for 1.5 hours last night for dinner. I guess a chef cut his finger? There weren’t many customers even there so confused how it could take this long to put a piece of fish on rice? The food was pretty good but again, super long wait with no “hey sorry this took so long let me take XYZ off your bill?” The waitress was super nice however and was empathetic to our situation but regardless myself or my friends will not be returning after the extremely poor overall experience.

Didn’t try any of the food but this place is SUCH a vibe for drinks! We got a bottle of sake and it was a very reasonable price! The atmosphere is the main appeal of this spot. Very trendy, and photographable. The service was very good as well, though they come around and ask you to leave right at 10 when the place closes. (I know plenty of spots that let you hang out for a second and collect your stuff before asking you to leave). Other than that, we had a really nice experience and I would 100% come back!

I went in for a short happy hour sushi session and the staff was awesome. They really made the difference. The sushi was really fresh and they gave it the TLC it needed. There wassabi is quite different and refreshingly good. I just heard of this place as a nightclub but honestly Id go back for sushi any day of the week.

Made a reservation for a group and didn’t know until days after that we have a fees per each person in our group. That’s ridiculous! At least mention it before hand!

Definitely a fun and exciting vibe for happy hour or dancing, but dinner was just ok. Almost all seats don’t have backs. I thought the vegan roll and shishito peppers could’ve been more flavorful, my boyfriend really liked the short rib plate. Our server was great and attentive. Not sure it was worth the price. Would probably come back for happy hour but not for dinner again.

I am very torn as to writing this review. I love this place (or at least I did), the vibes, the drinks, the food is good too, but, my last visit really turned me off to wanting to come back. My husband and I love going to San Diego and enjoying the nightlife and all it has to offer in the Gaslamp District. Places are themed and thought out and just so much fun to go to and we just happened to stumble upon this one about 3 years ago thanks to Yelp. Our big thing is Tiki and Tiki drinks or craft cocktails and we only heard good things; so we popped in!The first time we were here, we sat at the bar, shared a roll and a bowl (drink). It was amazing, no complaints. But our last visit, we talked this place up so much and brought good friends with us to show them a good time and the uniqueness of Bang Bang! As we were brought to our table, a very large roach crawled over the booth, the host snatched it up so quickly and it was gone; but... that feeling you know that there might be more just stuck with me the whole time we were there. I know, the building is older and so on, but I just could not get it out of my mind. My friend and I made the men sit on the booth while we sat on the stools hoping there would be no more. Thank goodness, there were not or I would have been running out of there. It is not what I want to see when I go out to eat or drink.Our group ordered drinks and some ordered food and the drinks we great the sushi rolls were just ok. We will be going back to the San Diego area, but I do not think Bang Bang will be on my list of places I want to go back to. I just cannot, I do not want to pay that kind of money on food and drinks and keep thinking in the back of my mind the roaches that might be in the seats, walls and on the floor. I just cannot. If you can, then give it a shot, but I will not be back here.

The Asian fusion food here is such a joke tbh. The only decent item was the wings. We waited for a long time for our champagne glasses. When they finally got here they were wet and smelled like saliva (smell was strong). Also the $15 champagne bottle online was priced at $200 so it was..simply put.. not worth it.

Went for a night out with a bachelorette and was seated 20-30 minutes late for an 8pm reservation (even though their policy is only 25 minute grace period for their customers - which they made sure we were aware of). Proceeded to then take quite while to get drinks going, but the real issue was that the people who ordered sushi received it over an hour after those who ordered from the entree menu. I understand that things can pile up in a restaurant, but there was no consideration. The management team should understand that food should not go out (especially for a group of 14) until everyone’s is prepared. We had a reservation for a table immediatly after but the energy of the dinner was thrown off by some people famished & others just finishing their meals at completely different times. I don’t expect great service at a club but this place is so small and the service during the night told us it would be at least an hour to get more cups in addition to be promised a champagne bottle that we never got. I would not go back, would not recommend to a friend & really dissapointed in their carlessness.

Great Place! The Food is Fresh and cooked to perfection! The Sushi is AMAZING! The drinks are powerful but balanced with Fun names and twist on the the same old same old classics with new and exotic options to boot! The STAFF is what stands out the most! SO Friendly, they enjoy their jobs and make you feel at ease to have a wonderful experience. Taylor maaaade our night!

A large group of us came here this past Saturday for a bachelorette party. When we arrived our table wasn’t ready we waited 20 minutes for our table. They took quite a while to bring us our drinks they kept coming in threes. We ordered sushi and entrees after we had appetizers which were mediocre. Half of our group ordered sushi, half ordered entrees. The entrees came out first and the sushi arrived to the table 45 minutes after half of our group had their dinner??? Who wants to eat without the others having their food?? Nobody knows how to manage anything here it was a pathetic joke. They kept saying sushi staff was behind and a longer wait after we ordered our meals we wanted to all eat together we wouldn’t have ordered sushi if this was told to us. They offered us sake for the inconvenience who wants sake when you’re starving waiting for your meal?? We then had to leave right after paying the bill so they can set up the club which was a joke of a club. I don’t recommend this spot to anyone!

A good place to go, nice decor and ambience, very modern Tokyo style. A big discount ball on the dancefloor which gives a good touch

Horrible experience. My friend that paid for a table got kicked out because some guy opened his bathroom stall and started telling him off and then the staff said they would kick the other guy out. Instead the girlfriend started PUNCHING my friend and they kicked MY FRIEND out. Unfair. Disgusting. Low standards. He was PUSHED down TWO FLIGHTS of stairs after spending hundreds of dollars there. Clientele is low-class. I would not recommend nor visit ever again.

Our Daughters Birthday evening was fantastic. The waiter (Jessie) was prompt and courteous. We shared our meals and the choices were tasteful and prepared timely. Everyone enjoyed the feast... Great job!

Rice was cold and crunchy. Fish in my tuna nigiri tasted sour and waited 45 minutes for it to be brought to the table. Definitely disappointing since it was highly rated and reviewed. Bartender was nice. If you’re just coming for a drink it’s good.

Cool atmosphere great service and excellent sushi

The food was good and the lights are pretty but we waited FOREVER to get our rolls. I got a regular salmon roll and my friend got a veggie roll and it took well over an hour to get our food. i actually wanted to get a second roll but was scare of how long it would take. We were there an hour and a half and saw our waitress 2 times and never offered us a refill. We wanted dessert and instead of asking us if we wanted any they just brought us the bill.

Amazing atmosphere, decor is an absolute delight and the food is amazing

Fried rice was mushy. Roll that was supposed to be spicy/hottest on the menu was not at all. Lots of stairs to get into establishment. I would prefer valet parking.

The restaurant charged us a service charge AND large party charge for only 6 people. They took over an hour to get our food and when it finally came out, they said we had 10 minutes to finish before our reservation time was up. Will not be going back.

Atmosphere is standard club type. Its fine if you like that kinda thing. Food wise, we got several sushi dishes and fried rice and it was mediocre at best. I get comparable sushi from my local grocery, no lie. The fried rice tasted just like white rice with some green beans in it until I put in soy sauce.If you like clubs with tables, its cool, but if you like sushi, go else where. Perhaps Im not there for the right reasons.

We all had a great time The service was slow and I you have to double check your bill before you pay we got overcharged but the food and atmosphere were 10/10.

This restaurant is something Ive never seen before. It is very unique and the food is amazing!! The style and the background are just so cultured and beautiful. I loved the servers and people there. The food was delicious!!! And I loved the cocktails as well!! Everything was very tasty and fresh !!!

Something is off about this place and I’m going to guess horrible management. The food was actually amazing. Drinks were STIFF.. place was kinda rundown, staff seemed on edge, confused, worn out.. not sure what’s up but sooooo much potential for that place!

This place is very cool. Dimmed lighting and overall a vibey spot. The sushi was great. We did have a new server on the job but she did a good job and another experienced server assisted throughout out dinner.

Small venue but great service! Sign-up for the guest list if you can because paying a $20-40 cover is not fun especially if your gonna be bar hopping through the Gaslamp. Drinks are about average at $13 a pop but its a cool atmosphere for photos and a drink or two.

The experience was extremely sub par. While the atmosphere and visuals of the restaurant were entertaining along with great music, the food and service was where my fiancée and I had most of our issues.The foods prices were a bit all over the place with the rolls being more expensive then they were worth and the the chefs choice being surprisingly underpriced. However the chefs choice fish ended up being much lower quality then expected.The drink were also a bit over priced with how watered down and bland they were. The looked neat but thats all I felt we were paying for.Our biggest gripe was the fact the a few other the staff were consistently taking shots during service. Our waiter seemed to be the most inebriated during our time there.Needless to say my fiancée and I agreed not to return to this restaurant as it is also a decent drive away from where we live in a place that is hard to find parking in.(I appreciate the reminder and have updated the review accordingly. I also Im glad you are making the attempt to save face for the sake of the other potential customers you have in case they read this review. I was planning on deleting the review on OpenTable as well but I feel as though it needs to be on both sites now. I personally did not witness the drinking from the place I was sitting but my fiancée swears by it and I have no reason not to believe her. I am certainly not out to get your establishment, especially because I have only been there once and I am even more unsure of what I would be gaining by lying in this situation. I hope you and your staff can continue to uphold a professional dining experience in the future but based on my initial experience and the response I received from this post I dont see that happening anytime soon. I would say good luck but I dont think you want my sympathy.)

Arrived in time for happy hour. Half priced standard rolls and pork buns. I found everything to be very tasty. Our waitress had a great energy and took great care of our party. By the time we finished, the gorgeousness started filling the place up. Would have been fun to stay and watch whatever would have unfolded

Bang bang is a true gem. We came on a Friday night with a reservation and everything from the food, the music, and the aesthetic was magnificent. We ordered the garden snake tea pot for two and we each had so many drinks, its def worth the price and it was one of the best tasting cocktails Ive had. Our server Jessie was so lovely and kind and treated us wonderfully. We ordered calamari, spicy garlic edamame, beef fried rice and a ceviche sushi and everything was top quality. I cannot wait to come back and try everything else.Ps. The club parts vibes were so relaxed and fun❤ thank you to the awesome staff for a magical night!

Amazing decor, location, staff,drinks and the sushi rolls were some of the best Ive ever had! I highly recommend this place! We also went to the DJ show they had that night, the dance floor is a good size, the Disco ball is super cool! I dont believe this place is handicap friendly however, you have to walk up a flight of stairs (they look like a French subway, its pretty cool) from the street to enter.

We came here to see Mad Zach, which Im sure is not the typical DJ that plays here, but this guy is amazing, so props for this club booking him! The club itself is very cool. There are endless things to look at, from Hello Kitty and Ryan Gosling themed bathrooms stalls in the girls bathroom, to the huge variously decorated hanging paper lanterns on the ceiling in the bar. The staff is all very friendly and professional, and this place overall had a good vibe. The crowd is super basic and annoying, but a typical club-goer would probably love it. I had a good time here :)

Came for the nightclub.If coming early, I always suggest putting yourself on the guest list. Otherwise it’s like a 20$+ cover.I like how there’s 2 separate rooms, so the music isn’t blasting while trynna get drinks. They were just projecting like twice and city scenery on the wall, and the bathrooms are themed in each stall.Sucks you can’t order the specialty drinks while it’s a nightclub setting. There’s places to sit. Yay!

Total rip off. They literally charge people $40 PER PERSON just to get inside to buy drinks. The moment my friends and I left, I notified everyone waiting for the line about how much they charge just to get in and everyone left as they should.If you’re going to go out and “party” and drink, just go to Tipsy Crow. They always have free entrance and good music downstairs.This place is a rip off and a sell out to other business establishments who charges people to get in.

For the first time being out in San diego Michael came through not only with the recommendations for dishes at Bang Bang but also where to go in the city for the weekend, his energy really was a great way to start the vacation and he showed he actually cared and gave real time recommendations honestly shout out to michael

Fun spot for it all. Bang bang is made up of three rooms, one room for the bar/ dining room, one room for a quaint sushi restaurant, and one room for the dance floor.

This place was super neat. I love that its hidden, if youre not looking for this place you will most likely just walk past it and not even realize thats its a sushi bar.The atmosphere was super nice, Im pretty sure it turns into a techo club at night.Our waiter was super chill, unfortunately I dont remember his name (has long blonde hair and was wearing a head band) but he was super sweet and very apologetic that our food took a long time. At first we were kind of annoyed that the food was taking forever but he explained that a party had ordered a GIANT sushi boat and that really put the chefs behind. We did get the chance to see the sushi boat and if you happen to go there with a large party GET THE SUSHI BOAT!!! That thing was massive and looked legit!!! (Its def for at least 8 people or more) Needless to say we were pretty understanding.We got a few of the specialty rolls and the tuna tacos, everything was very good and tasted fresh. I only took a picture of the tacos because by the time we got the rolls we inhaled them.I recommend this place for a fun date night or a birthday dinner.

(nightclub review) we came to visit here for the overall night club experience that happens on the weekends, i guess. this place has a great overall vibe and the sound system is awesome. you come here and are instantly up close and personal with the DJ. there isnt a bad spot in the house although i suggest you come early to beat the crowd

The atmosphere was awesome, and the food was good however we had reservations at 9:30 and they didn’t seat till 9:50 which gave us almost 10 minutes before the kitchen closed

The servers are very unfriendly, they dont allow anyone to sit. The music though was amazing, I guess thats how San Diego clubs are, I noticed the staff is almost always unfriendly.

First club we went to for our friends 21st birthday and the bouncer wouldn’t let her in after midnight. Claimed it was California law. It’s not. This went on for 5 mins til he eventually let us in. Ruined the place for us from the start but the drinks were expensive and the music pitiful as well. DONT GO!!

This rating is for the restaurant only. All the food was pretty good. We got the sushi boat but it was so dark we never knew what we were eating. Definitely a place to check out for the vibe, music, and friendly staff.

Honestly I was expecting better. The customer service is lacking proper manners and language. I don’t need to hear about your hygiene problems while you’re at work serving food to customers. Also, food is over priced for what you get. Food is okay, but lacking appealing impressions. Paid for food by card and when asked to sign our waitress already picked himself out a $3 tip. Yikes how desperate.

I went here with a few friends and had a joint celebration on 12/17/2021. Our food was phenomenal! The crab rolls and my favorite rolls were the west coast philly and the Yama Gucci! I dont drink but they had a great selection of nonalcoholic drinks which I appreciate! I had the strawberry lychee lemonade which was bomb! The atmosphere was beautiful with the flowers and disco ball club theme. The music was low enough to have a conversation which was awesome! Of course visit the cute bathroom with each stall having a theme from hello kitty to Ryan gosling. The cherry on top to this experience was our waitress Liselle L! A lot of things I can say about her!! She was so kind, genuine, BEAUTIFUL (make up on point) and a vibe!! She was so efficient with our order but also knew how to make my friend and I birthday celebration memorable because she has a great engergy 😁. We need more people like her who are just good vibes!! Thank you!!💙☺️ One of the best sushi places Ive been and Id go back forsure!

Didnt make a reservation but they accommodated us nicely. We got a water jug and ordered as we sat down. 4 tables around us ordered too. We all waited 45min - hour for our food. We all received it at the same time. We scarffed it down it took so long - we were starving. It was yummy though. And my husband enjoyed his drink!

Cool Deejays play here. Good house music often. You can only pay for the tickets with cash though, even though the bar accepts cards. They have an ATM with a 5 dollar transaction fee. The drink prices are pretty steep as well, and the bouncer with the overly manicured eyebrows is an arrogant prick. But the bartenders are pretty, and the music playing here is usually good. Also cool wallpaper in the bathroom.

The environment here is amazing. The decor, the artwork, it is something you have to experience. That being said, the food is also fantastic. It is a bit pricier than the smaller and more popular sushi places, but it is higher quality food. The service was average though. I expected better for the cost of the restaurant. I would visit again if I knew there was a special.

The ambiance was cool but the service wasn’t the best.Right when we got there we had to wait 25 minutes past our reservation to get our table. It took an hour for our food to come and we didn’t get one of our dishes and one of the waiters, Jess, wouldn’t take it off the bill until i talked to the manager. Fun club, not the best restaurant

Good sushi with a varied menu that also included creamy shrimp (awesome) and braised short ribs (didnt try) among many other items. Happy hour prices until 7:00 PM which really helped minimize the tab with 7 people.Darkly lit in the main area due to the club nature of the establishment.

Great music. Subpar overpriced sushi selection with a hipster spin on rolls. Drinks were delicious but expect typical gaslamp prices ~15 per cocktail. Beautiful environment and ambiance. Will look impressive in your feed.

Great venue, sushi and bar. Rather pricey but it is downtown. Unfortunately they have a time limit on tables and we had to give up ours for the next reservation.

Id like to give this venue another try. It was a very hip atmosphere with the huge disco ball and lighting effects as well as an school decor. The bar was almost speakeasy like with its retro dim lighting. I wasnt a fan of the dj the night I went by my friends though he was lit!

Time ruined by bottle service girl on a power trip. Some sound advice from your customers who wasted well over $100 on tickets and over priced drinks - the next time you shine a flashlight at the back of someones head and they dont notice you try one of these popular phrases, excuse me, pardon me or even passing through!. Instead of scolding grown adults like toddlers. How do you expect anyone to see a flash light BEHIND them in a room full of flashing colorful lights. We were swiftly escorted out following this interaction. Ive gone to so many shows and spent so many nights here at Bang Bang pre COVID. After a year+ long hiatus due to the virus I was super excited to get back to what was once one of my favorite spots downtown. Really disappointed.

This restaurant slash bar slash night club is probably best known for the Ryan Gosling posters that cover the entire walls of the girls bathroom. After seeing everyone post drunken snapchats in the bathroom next to him, it was a must see.My friends and I came to bang bang for dinner. A little before things got really turnt, but still during the evening. The space itself is pretty cool. The music is loud. The lights are turned down low. So, even if youre just here for dinner, expect that dance club vibe.The food was good but it was definitely expensive. We got a few sushi rolls and appetizers. Everything tasted fresh and delicious, but it came with a price. We ordered some sake bombs for the table and found it was cheaper just to buy the whole bottle of sake. Overall, pretty fun place. Would definitely like to come back and check it out later at night.

Awesome trendy atmosphere! We came here for dinner and ordered the whole menu and two huge punch bowls. Those punch bowls creep up on you! We ordered a huge selection of sushi rolls, pork belly buns, tuna and avocado tacos, and fried rice. Its a fun place to go and dont forget to go to the bathrooms! There is the famous Ryan Gosling bathroom and hello kitty style bathroom. Its fun and picture-worthy! After dinner, check out the club in the next room. Beware, it might be foggy but dance the night away!

They may give your credit card to a stranger.I bring my friend to Bang Bang, we enjoy drinks and have a fun night, and when it’s time to checkout they say that his card is nowhere to be found. After they asked to check our pockets (we didnt even get the check, but we did it as a courtesy to them) they started escalating the question until they found what happened.It wasnt Lexie, our server, who messed up but her manager John Frank. John gave the card, which has a picture of my friend (an Indian man) to a stranger (white girl) who took it, signed the check, and left the place. So now we are told that my friend will have to block his card, get a new one, and consequently to call all the businesses with pending transactions on the card, plus the recurring charges, and update the payment information.When confronted with what happened they refused any cooperation and any fair settlement. Now, when I screw up I am accountable for it – when you do, you are. Probably they dont care about customers in Bang Bang, as long as they sell their alcohol.Who likes to get their card stolen? While the intentions of the girl who has the card were (probably) not criminal, still John Frank’s behavior was irresponsible, and he took no action to make up for the mistake. I am so sorry for my friend, and I had no other choice than to write this review.Note that I like the place, and I am sure that John is a good manager and Lexie is the sweetest bartender ever – we love them – but you can’t do nothing in front of a situation like this and just throw your mistakes to your customers.

Made reservations, upon arriving we were greeted by 3 people who worked there but didnt help us. When I asked to be seated at the sushi bar area the waitress acknowledged what i asked but still tried to walk us over to a table in the middle of the club area. When we got sat at the sushi bar area we sat and waited over 10 minutes as we hear whoever was working that area mingle with other coworkers and never asked us for our orders or if we were interested in any drinks while we waited. At this point, my wife and I walked out. Im all for a club but that wasnt our intention and I guess our reservations were too late to be taken as a eating reservation and assumed we were there to dance and not eat.

I really like Bang Bang, the ambiance is nice, love the decorations & they happen to get some of my fav Djs every few months so thats why I go back.The hugest downside (which I cant really fault them for because its not really in their control) is often times the crowd that shows up is disrespectful or just too immature to make you feel like you really wanna be there. (picture 18yo that have a fake ID - grinding - twerking - pushing - shoving crowd) so I never end up having as good of a time here simply because of that.

Went with me and some girl friends, a security guard (woman) kicked out my friend (woman) for telling a man she didn’t want to dance with him. She didn’t even let my friend tell any of us that she was getting kicked out. Threw a singular girl out on the streets by herself. THERE OWN STAFF. Be careful when you come here.

Bang bang was fun with cool vibe and tasty food and drink. The giant disco ball sold me right away. Only been once back when Claude vonstroke played in 2014 but it was the greatest time. Highly recommend to my friends.

Super swanky sushi spot. Delicious fried rice too! Great for a group gathering. Really moody. Also, weird as it is, youve got to check out the bathrooms - theyre decorated with some crazy wallpaper like Ryan Gosling photos and Godzilla decor.

If I want to have a good time feel like dancing and listening to great house music this is the place to go. Friendly staff,great bar service, plenty of drink options. I love it!

Great service! Food is okay. Nothing spectacular. Mixed drinks are more miss than hit. Sangria tasted like fruit punch Gatorade. It was slow for a Saturday night at 6.

Love the atmosphere. I got the spare ribs and they were burnt to the griddle. The sushi was good though. Trust me on this one: the bathrooms are worth the visit alone. Hey girl!

Bang Bang is very well put together. The restaurant has three different rooms that offer a totally different experience. They have a small sushi bar area with large visual screen and very interesting lights through the restaurant and club area. They often have big name DJs and a great night life for dancing and music. Great atmosphere, big time for the hipsters. Good place to have a good time!! + have a few drinks. Best sushi ive had in my life, fish is kept very fresh. Could be a fun venue with the right artist and if the staff kicked out weirdos.. was there for 40 minutes and experienced more weirdos in those 40 minutes than I have all last year, from old creepy guys hitting on girls to full frat bros banging on bathroom stalls saying “police” until someone opened the stall. Probably won’t be on the top of my list of places to go in SD.

So I found this place on instagram when some friends posted pictures of the womens bathroom stall (Ryan Gosling is plastered on the walls). I was fully expecting the mens room to have an equally appealing décor. Wrong, the mens room doesnt get a 2nd thought, and actually its kind of sub par with the sinks, and s. They definitely didnt put enough thought into it.The name is sure interesting, kind of fun to say and easily worked into pick up lines. Asian fusion, but really more Japanese with the sushi, sake, and the Japanese Whiskey (The Far East is doing some great things in the world of Whiskey, putting old traditional houses on notice at competition).So the stair walk up can be dangerous and jammed as though it may seem roomy its not when you have women inching their way down in heels. It feels a little subwayish with the tiling, but it is pretty cool. Its a sushi restaurant with a private dining room off to the right in the hidden door. Unlike the décor of the rest of the place, this private room is bright, with the full ceilings and traditional lighter wood bar. The bar bar uses dark wood and flooring, tall square tables for sharing, but its dim. The big ceiling lamps actually mask how tall the ceilings are. You can see the upper ceiling window way up there through the clouds effect they are going for.I guess for being somewhat new they get a bit of a pass on service, but I have to tell you their bartenders are slow, partly because they have too many seats at the bar and it boggles me when walls of people belly up effectively funneling people to swarms. Take 20% of the seats and move them to the group table behind for better flow. Barbacks work hard, but with 3 bartender on a weeknight the wait shouldnt be 20 minutes.I love Whiskey and Scotch and to see a Hibiki Manhattan peaked my interest, normally I wouldnt use such a fine spirit, but it works well. Easily my favorite drink so far. Punch bowls are huge, but sloppy and a little expensive. Polite Provisions got this one better, their punch bowls are less sticky. A little more thought on the recipes. Limited beer selection, nothing craft which is not cool. $9 vodka tonics seems normal-high. DJ plays pretty boring hipish remixes and no Hip hop. Grab a table on the back wall to get away from the crowds and a better view.The dance section is really more of a lounge when not cracking, but Im not sure they will without good music. Places like Voyeur, Fluxx and Bassmnt stay packed because of the music, the newness will wear off. Its kind of like 3 different places combined with a few commonly shared décor notes.Ill be touching on the food in subsequent outtings as this review is strickly for my drinking visits. Sometimes cool and hip doesnt cut the mustard and I hate to say that the décor can only go so far without faster and better service and perhaps some better music. I know some people really like it and I was anxious to try this place, but will probably use this for a show off spot for out of towners versus my go to or hidden gem places.Though not specifically pro or con vape as people do vape in here, they are usually discreet ego users. Dont bring the clouds as Id like to keep it friendly until not. 2 bartenders and a barback didnt say it wasnt ok and didnt ask me to stop, but security may be a different story. Ill find out for sure if they had real managers working.

Mediocre sushi at a premium and hella expensive drinks. Turns into a club, the club was decent enough. Kind of cramped and not my style but I could see the appeal I guess.

11/9/19 - Had a reservation at 9:15, wasnt seated until 9:45pm. The server took forever to bring us our sashimi. I mean how long does it take to cut a slice of fish? After dinner around 11pm, I went to another room where there the DJ was spinning.  Shortly after, a group of 4 ppl pushed past me; 2 going in one direction & 2 going in the other. I thought it was weird that they decided to squeeze in where I was b/c it wasnt crowded. 1 min. later, I reach down to grab my purse only to find it wide open! One of them went into my purse & stole my phone while the others distracted me.  Never would I expect this to happen in San Diego.I told a security guard that there are people stealing phones. Dude looked annoyed and just asked if I was staying the whole night b/c thats when they can check lost & found. I knew they stole my phone b/c it was turned off immediately after it was taken. Also, why would I stay somewhere I felt unsafe?!? Security couldve looked up camera footage to see who they were & caught them, but they didnt do anything! The lack of concern/safety for their patrons is disappointing. I guess people dont care about anything unless it affects them. If you ever set foot in here BEWARE! I felt helpless and just left out of frustration.Another thing that didnt make sense was that we bought tickets for the show that night but no one checked for those tickets when we got done with dinner. We spent an extra $40 on tickets that we didnt need.

Came here for our 3 yr anniversary. All the staff were super kind and was very good service. The food was absolutely amazing. I would 10/10 recommend this restaurant.

We were a group of 8 and they made us pay 90 dollars for food we didn’t get as an upcharge for the large group and they charged us 22% gratuity. Overall not worth the 560 dollar my group of 8 had to pay for the amount of food we bought.

This bar looks cool and sometimes has a decent sound, but that’s about it. The service is horrible! I waited 20 minutes for a server to come around but was ignored. Servers forgot which order went where and who ordered what. Just disorganized. And then when I did get to order, everything was WAY overpriced.Overall, just not worth the attempt at trying a new place.

Place is pretty nice inside, Japanese themed through out. Seating wise is tricky, no staff to direct where to sit. Dance floor small aswell, if you dont like cramped spaces chill at the back and your fine. Good house n techno djs most of the time. Food is good, just kitchen closes @10pm.

Killer new sushi bar/club in the Gaslamp. Fantastic on so many levels--food, decor, music, clientele. Must say I really appreciate the model-server hybrid approach as well. If its Fri or Sat, just make sure you dress to impress.

Go to a different club like Bloom; this club does their very best to scam you over bottles as well as allowing harassment, etc.I couldnt have spent my money is a worst place - I hope BB shuts down asap.

Drinks aren’t good and overpriced. Sushi isn’t good, small portions, overpriced. So loud that you have to scream over the music to speak. Untz untz (electronic) music too, not a fan of that.

Food is meh. Lobster dish came out way before everyone elses food and was pretty chewy. That awkward do I eat yet got old after 20 minutes. Cocktail? Excellent, if you love 3 sips of sours on ice. I was really bummed. Oh well. Service was good, but I still wanted a burrito afterwards. Point is... 🌯>🍣

I was here for the first time last weekend... GREAT experience! Reminded me of a mix of a Tokyo, Hong Kong scene... more so a restaurant I was at in Hong Kong last year.From the ambiance, food, victuals... the staff and chefs. This place is AWESOME!!Ben was so helpful... he was most impressive. I think he said he is the GM or one of the managers... not sure. If so, he has put together an AMAZING team. I dined here and also was at a photo booth party... so much fun. The team is first class, very helpful, and simply cool.The team / staff struck me as most impressive... the ambiance and vibe was fun and inspiring... and Im definitely going back for the Sushi.THANKS Ben and everyone at BANG... Food was good and the ambiance is fantastic. Service was a miss this evening as they forgot our miso soup until after we finished dinner. Ryan Gosling restroom makes this place a must in San Diego.

This place has an amazing happy hour. I heard that they turn this place into a night club once the sun goes down but I didnt stay for it. The happy hour has a great selection of food and drinks.

Walked in with reservations and it took 5 min to just get acknowledged, and then waited at our table for over 10 min. No one came to take our order or even just let us know that theyll be helping us. This completely turned is off that we ended up leaving too just find a different place.

Good sushi but very expensive and the first sushi place Ive ever been to that did not serve ginger and Wasabi with the sushi. Very dark if you like that in a restaurant.

I went for a drag brunch which is an excellent experience that i highly recommend. I got the salmon poke and was genuinely surprised, it was actually quite good. It was a great time all around

Hostess was rude.Took 20 minutes to get menus and 1 hour to get food in a empty restaurant. Food was ok at best. To complete my horrible experience it only took 25 minutes to pay out.

This is the go - to place in town for EDM and fabulous sushi, period. Johnny Shockey is my number on favorite contributor to the local night life and EDM scene, his list is the hottest girls, the most hip people that like EDM and his people are all really good at what they do, both front and back of the house. Its a CLUB, with EDM music, so pick another place if you are not into EDM and looking at the prettiest girls in San Diego, period and the EDM people are the NICEST of ALL the people that go out on a regular basis.

I am not a sushi person but still love coming here for the wide variety of cocktails and non-sushi selections. The pork belly fried rice is by far my favorite item on the menu, and the atmosphere is super chill.

The food was amazing chicken fried rice with avocado !!! There is a section that opens up for dancing and music at 10 on the weekend it’s not very big & is really loud . Such a fun place to go the bathroom stalls are individually decorated .

Where i start … looks like stuff not really motivated you can feel the energy on Entrance no one is smiling , Bar women looked like she worked 24 hour strait …. Music sound just sucks all you can hear its Bass …

Cool techno club, service staff were very friendly. Security was a bit standoffish when asking them a question but I understand they deal with some crazy people sometimes. Would go here again.

My first, and apparently, final chance to see the Jane Doze was here in October 2014. For my first nightclub in SoCal, this place was amazing! And just minutes from my holte and pub for the weekend..

Sushi was expensive and just ok. Its got a clubby vibe to it and was pretty loud. Sake bombs were ok, but the cups get stuck in their skinny glasses and finding a waiter to get a new one is a challenge.

Bang Bang is awesome for a night out. Great place, lots of room, awesome disco ball, and good drinks. Not the cheapest in town, but super fun and funky.

The wait isnt bad for ticket holders. Sound is great and international artists often play here. The disco ball is huge.

Cocktails, punch bowls, and a decent dance floor make this place s highlight of the night. Cant comment on the famous bathroom buy theres plenty to enjoy regardless

Super cool atmosphere and themes, food was amazing as well as the service. And on Friday and Saturday nights If you buy food you get free access to the night club.

I came exclusively for the Ryan Gosling bathroom (which did not disappoint). Drinks are pricey, but on-par with other places in the Gaslamp. Too clubby for my liking.

Cool place to go to on industry nights. Especially on Tokyo Tuesdays since its happy hour all night. A pretty cool line up of live performances throughout the weekend.

Solid food, cool decor, turns into a fun nightclub at 10 with a reasonable door / security staff that did a great job. Would come back for sure

Fresh sushi expertly prepared. The uni topped scallop is the perfect bite! Go to Bang Bang, sit at the sushi bar and eat whatever Chef prepares for you. You wont be disappointed.

Very nice place had awesome margaritas, didnt care much for the flower pedals but, overall I will go back

Great Sushi Happy Hour in downtown San Diego. I highly recommend the happy hour shrimp apitizer, Bruce Lee Roll, and Hello Kitty roll. Super vibey decore and a cool date place.

Great service, over-priced average sushi and blaring dance/techno. Not the place for a nice evening of 17$ a plate sushi. If your 20ish and wanna dance while you eat this might be your place....otherwise skip it.

When places are this cool its a bit intimidating but have no fear. Bang Bangs uber sexy hip decor is a great setting for amazing punch bowls and sushi.

The sushi was amazing, however the service was awful and the food was quite expensive. It does have an interesting ambiance with the lights off and some interesting music and decor.

This place is awesome. Good vibes, good people, good music and both Conan and Wes treat people with respect. Will definitely be there again.

Got the party roll special for a party and five and everyone left full and satisfied. The rolls were great. Stick to the party menu when with big groups to save $$$

The food was great!! Although it was dark inside, the colorful lights and great music gave it a club vibe.

The bang rice is killin. Had chicken & shrimp. It was a Good amount of food but not too much. Great spot with a real chill vibe.

These clowns charge a $30 cover on a Thursday night. Avoid this place at all costs. No bar anywhere is worth a $30 cover on a Thursday night. Clowns go here.
