A Honky Tonk nestled in the heart of Tucson. I had never been and didn’t know what to expect. All I knew was, my favorite Country Artist Braxton Keith was coming through town on his first time playing live in Arizona and I had to be there. The food was incredible… I made a complete mess of myself devouring the cauliflower app with the dipping sauce. Our waitress was very attentive despite her working one half of the room. I will definitely come back down from Phoenix to see other shows. The meet and greet after the show was awesome. We got to talk to a bunch of the attendees while waiting in line to meet Braxton.
We went to see a live band on a Thursday night while we were in town visiting, and the band was great! Scotty Freel and the Flying Diamonds. The lead singer was good, and they had a younger guy with blonde hair that was amazing! His voice was fantastic, and he played guitar really well too. I think we may see him as a star one day. My husband joked we should get his autograph now, lol. No cover charge and several drink specials. Drinks were good, and our waitress was really great as well. Watching the dancers was a lot of fun too. We will definitely go back next time were in town!
We visited The Maverick while on vacation and we had a blast! The vibe here is awesome, really fun decor. The music was great, and the food and drinks were AMAZING! The best part was the staff, between the bartenders and the waitress, we were treated so well, everyone was SO kind!! Will definitely stop in again if we ever find ourselves in Tucson!
The Maverick is the best in Tucson. Never had a bad experience here in all the years I’ve been visiting. All these low star reviews must be from miserable people. It’s 2024, do people not know that you tip your bartender or server?? Come on people… grow up. Better yet, if you can’t afford to tip - DO NOT GO OUT!
My wife and I are from Missouri and visit Tucson annually, and we love 💕 music! 🎵 This was the second time going to The Maverick and seems were either pretty good at picking a good club or the right night to go to The Maverick because twice now weve had a great time here... great atmosphere, service, and drink specials!🍻
Had a great time for my daughters 21st birthday, the server. Jessica was absolutely amazing. we never had an empty drink. definitely change since I was there, but looking forward to live music on the weekend.
Cool place. Big dance floor. Nice vibe. The band was pretty good. However, I had a bad experience with the older bartender in the back bar. At one point, I payed her $5 on a $4.50 beer and told her to keep the change. She gave me a dirty look and replied in a snarky tone, I dont want your change. Im not homeless. and gave me the change back. This was unnecessary, ungrateful, and rude. Not only had I tipped her $1.50 on the previous beer, but a $0.50 (11%) tip isnt bad for what amounted to an 8 second interaction. From reading other reviews, it appears Im not the first one to experience this kind of thing at the Maverick. While the bar is cool, there are plenty of other cool bars in Tucson with better bartenders.
Bartenders are extremely rude. Also, the bouncers take fake ID’s and sell them to other minors😭 Had a girl trying to use my ID that was taken at Mavs at Fuku.
I love coming to this place! Such a fun time every time! One of the BEST parts is the bartender Briana! If you haven’t been, I’d definitely recommend it!
The Maverick is my Cheers... Its where everybody knows my name (or face) & where I spend Saturday night for dancing & a good time! I like Thursdays too. And Im always greeted with a smile.Im often asked, why do you go so often? My answer: Its a great stress reliever & much cheaper than therapy!Drinks are always reasonably priced. The live music is always great! The staff & bartenders are so nice. The crowd is fun & dancing is always a great idea!! The food is good, but their French Fries are BOMB!!Wednesday is geared (more or less) for the college crowd. Hence the name, Wildcat Wednesday. So, keep that in mind depending on your demographic.Personally, I prefer Thursday & Saturday.Thursday are a bit slower & tend to be a more mature crowd.Saturdays are a mixed bag, but the best bands usually perform on Sat night & so much fun on the dance floor!I often hear, But I dont know how to dance!. Well, they offer classes (line dance & 2 step) on various evenings. And if youre asked to dance, say YES! The men are always gentlemen & will guide you along on the floor. Its easier than you think & so much fun! 😊
Excellent place to walk in and leave the world behind for a few moments. The music the feeling and flow of this place is special and unique. The beverages are cold and the people are warm and welcoming. The west is still alive in this Tucson enclave of dining, romancing, prancing and dancing. Old country, western classics, modern pop, cumbias, norteño and lots of fun night moves for all to have and enjoy…Remember you die once, you get a chance to live every day !!!
Came from NM for a visit and wanted a place to go country dancing on a Sat night. We found this place and loved it. The only problem we had is an entire dance class came to show and practice their moves. Although they were really good and we didnt mind watching them, the flipping, dipping and dragging the girls across the floor made it very difficult to move. I lost count on how many times I got hair slapped in my face as they turned and turned and turned the girls. We love to dance, and we are pretty good at it but found it very difficult for the average dancer to get around the dance floor. Will we be back? Probably, but now we know what to expect.
Woman with the crop top budwieser shirt and blue jean shorts/blonde hair was very racist idk if she was drinking on shift or something but the treatment was uncalled for I litteraly didnt say a single word and got insulted for no type of reason. I shrugged my shoulders and left but I legit didnt open my mouth other than to order my drinks.
Stopped into the Maverick last night after the Tucson rodeo. We absolutely love this bar. Great weekend specials, big dance floor, live music and our bartender Briana was awesome.
Honestly really disappointed, Ive been wanting to come to the Maverick for a while since I found out about wildcat wednesday, so I took a small group of my girl friends here last night and the mood was immediately ruined after being served our drinks by the older female with red in her hair, to keep it simple she was rude and held an attitude all night over a TIP. She talked AT one of my friends Just so you know... we live off our tips so maybe think about that the next time you wanna order a drink from me in the rudest voice We were going to tip her $40-60 EACH at the end of the night based on service like we do at every bar we go to on girls night because all 4 of us are servers and understand those tips can be everything but we went back for a total of 3 rounds and each time she ruined the mood. Everything else was really great drinks were okay, food was decent, music was good, just that bartender.
Bri the back bar was phenomenal! She made my drinks exceptionally and ensured I was happy at all times! She went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of.
Very cute, albeit small country bar, good drink options and food was pretty good. The 3$ margaritas were not good but you get what you pay for 🤷🏼♀️ good music friendly staff and the dance lessons are much more concise than at whiskey roads which I appreciate. If it werent so far I would definitely go more often!
Great place to put your boots and cowboy hat on and enjoy the live bands play on a Saturday and do the two-step!! Went in for my first time 9/9/23, great atmosphere! Only thing that bothered me was the bartender by the pool tables, very rude and wasn’t a people person.
Great western bar & restaurant. Live music or DJ, Dancing and dance lessons available depending on night of the week.
The only thing that would make the maverick ten times better is if it were bigger. I’m sure many have said this before and I am no different in that way. The set up is very very cool with lots of parking and an outside patio in the front that they take great advantage of. On the inside you have a stage on the west side and each other wall with an accessible bar and they even have tons of seating. Yet most of the nights I go, it is so packed that it’s hard to get around and sometimes impossible to dance. I don’t know what is in the realm of possibilities but it would be awesome for them to score a bigger property with the same set up.
Great place! Great bartenders/staff! Reminds me of the old school honky-tonks I grew up in back home in Texas! Havent had the food yet, but it looks good and is very plentiful!
Ive been going into the Maverick for over 35 years. I probably would give it 5 stars if I was 21 thru 35 years old. My point is that when I was younger we sort of pushed out the older folks and it was a lot of fun not having the Slower senior citizens and 60-70 year olds slowing the flow around the dance floor. So when it 9:30 its time to go the younger crowd takes over. But on Sunday evenings from 6pm till 10pm the older crowd seem to do better so keep this quiet dont 7spread the word about our Sundays because that is the best night for the older 2stepping crowd. There are some pretty good bands dance floor is tiny but thats the way all the dance floors are in Tucson.
The bartenders were slow and ignored me while standing around talking . I had one beer in two hours . Whatever the management told them to do cost them money . They need Bar Rescue to teach them how to sell drinks and serve customers.
Good music, decent bartenders, and a huge dance floor with a large stage for live bands to play, which is a weekly event. A few pool tables and it’s also pretty clean for a Tucson bar. It wasn’t that way a few years ago. I’d say it’s recommendable for sure.
At the end of the night the older blonde bartender with red highlights started cussing at a patron because she thought she was tipped poorly and honestly with her attitude the tip was too much. Then after he walked outside and was surrounded and attacked by the 6 bouncers and choked out by the supposed manager. The bouncers went out just to antagonize him as he was walking to his car and went way over the line by surrounding him, pushing him, throwing him to the ground, and choking him to the point of almost not breathing. The bartender had a horrible attitude and has no place in a service profession.
Came in on a Sunday after work for a beer. Sat at the bar because I saw it wasn’t very busy. I was seated for 20 minutes waiting for the bartender to take my order. She spent most of that time talking with another employee at the other end of the bar, occasionally walking right past me to get other people drinks, despite making eye contact with me multiple times. I ended up leaving and going somewhere else.
BEST place by far to line dance in Tucson (where they understand personal space on the dance floor a bit better). Sat nights are FINALLY a joy, as Pork Chop DJd after line dance lessons, so we could continue to line dance for an hour or more before the band started (THANK YOU Porkchop!!).If line dance music available after Sat lessons well certainly be having dinner and drinks, along with a few others here on Sats after this.If you enjoy dancing this is a great feel of honky tonk, neighborhood bar, and a great diverse crowd with no judgment. You can dress country if desired or not, NO one cares. Everything, including restrooms very clean. Bartenders are THE best! Hands down an outstanding find.Line dance lessons start anywhere from 5-6p (check their website for days and times). Makes for a fun evening out, as things start earlier than most places, making it simpler to get to school or work the next day.
Never been to a country club before but the live music was pretty entertaining. Drinks were surprisingly reasonably priced and a lot of space to just hang out with friends. Personally don’t enjoy country music but I wouldn’t mind going again if asked.
Fun place with decent food and good drinks. Great live music. Wish the dance floor was bigger and way more tables, but good for what it is.
Ordered food-Chili frito plate- 5stars maybe a little more cheese.Chips & salsa- 4stars the salsa needs more salt, lime juice & cilantro.Cowboy burger- 3stars not bad but not great, the fries are 3stars also.
1st and last time ever going here. Went there for a going away for a friend getting stationed overseas and my vibe was ruined almost within 20 minutes of being there. In other country bars, the bartenders were polite, sociable and fun! The bartenders here, specifically the female that worked at the side bar next to the outside patio, had an attitude and demanded a tip otherwise I wouldn’t get served. ASKING FOR A TIP WILL NOT GET YOU A TIP. IT WILL GET YOU LESS CUSTOMERS. Oh and the same bartender that demanded a tip also charged me 20 dollars for something I didn’t even get. If you want subpar service and to be scammed out of your money, 10/10 recommend this place!😒
Best country bar since Denim and Diamonds closed years ago!Great place for 2-Steppin.Awesome Bartenders, Jill is the best!
Can get way to crowded to dance. No one seems to keep dancefloor open to dancers. People stand on floor to watch band instead of dance to it...seems to be the new trend. As even the manager does nothing about it unfortunately he told me he knows how to run his bar his way. 😞
Main reason we go to The Maverick is the line dance classes. The instructors are amazing. Art, Elaine, Teri, Karen, Mel, Christine, and Kennedy are nice, helpful, and fun. Classes are 5:30 on Wednesdays, 5 on Saturdays, and 6 on Sundays. On Wednesdays DJ Porkchop plays a lot of the songs that we have learned, so the fun lasts late into the evening. Also, Tori and I learned everything we know about 2-step from Kennedys classes on Thursday and Friday evenings. The dance culture at The Maverick is alive and well. Most folks are eager to take a spin on the dance floor if you just ask!The bartenders are outstanding. After just a couple visits, they remembered my go-to drink (Dragoon IPA). I dont even have to ask anymore; as soon as they see me walk in, they head over to the tap and pour a cold one. Seems like Cheers where Everybody knows your name :) Special shout-out to Amanda!Weve always been happy with the food. The Cowboy Steak and Cowboy Butter Salmon are my favorites.
Bouncer wanted to play 21 questions because my license was shiny apparently, could have asked me for a diff ID if his concern was the validity. Anyway, got told to leave the bar because we couldnt hang out but then they let others hang out there? Doesnt make much sense.Folks can reserve tables which is great but there already almost no seating/standing room. The girls working were very polite though.
I really like this establishment. Its a really good place. Im not a country music fan and a huge Metal head but found myself going back to this place repeatedly
I love country bars but one of their patrons was so racist. We were trying to be nice to her and she legit told us because we were Mexicans to clean the restrooms. Told the bouncer and he said there was nothing he could do about it, crazy cause it’s 2022.
The bouncers are so rude, seems like lots of racism happening within the bartenders. Worst experience ever. This place used to be awesome sad that management is allowing this to happen.
Dancing was fun, only a few line dances in the hours we were there though. Bartender was on top of her game. Cocktails seemed like a good price but were pretty watered down. Fun to just go and watch, or join on the dance floor without feeling pressured. Was crowded on Saturday night, but never felt overly-stuffy.
Environment is good and food was enjoyable. Step up your service for a better rating. Had to create our own food order due to slow service. We arrived at 5 and was first in. Rest of group arrived at 630, but supposedly service was slow due to a waitress change over ... ? Less than 2 hours after opening? Let me know if you would like free customer service training.
The dance lesson before was great for beginners. People came in last minute (10 minutes before the lesson was over) and the instructor let them join and then taught them everything they missed. The drinks were great and the live band was phenomenal! Will go again for sure.
Not a huge fan of country but this place has grown on me. Friday nights are the best, cool security, bartenders are alright. Nice crowd, Lots of regulars. A nice place to have a drink, play pool, sit outside and chill, or dance the night away on the dance floor
So we were visiting from the Dallas/Fort Worth area and decided to try and come out dancing for an evening. I found two different places to go and this one had better reviews so we tried it. For starters the bar was nice and our waitress was awesome! The band that played was also very good. Everyone here seemed to be having a good time. The negatives to our visit are as follows: 1. It stormed tonight yet they kept the front doors wide open in July and it was sweltering inside, especially if you were dancing. 2. This dance floor is kinda small. Much smaller than what we are used to dancing on. 3. They had some sort of benefit going on to save horses (that may have accounted for the crowded conditions) However, I spoke to another couple and they say its normally busy on Thursdays and packed on Friday and Saturday. Glad we came on Thursday, if this was aslower night. 4. This is probably the most important. If you are used to being able to dance around a dance floor in line of dance with people slot dancing in the middle (as it should be) they do NOT do that here. There is no line of dance, everyone just kinda dances in place all over the dance floor. Then you have the crazy few who spin their partner all over with no regard to who is around, elbows flying everywhere! (To be fair you will run into this one at almost any dance hall). As the evening got a little later and it thinned out a bit, it was better. I think there is just a completely different style of dance between Texas and Arizona. If yall come visit us in Dallas/Fort Worth you will need to stay to the middle of the dance floor, leaving the outside lane open for those who dont two step in place. If we are in the area again, Im not sure if we would come back, we might, or we might try the other bar out.
Love this bar. Briana at the back bar is the BEST!! She never misses.
Friendly staff, great danse teacher Thursday night for 2 step & food and drinks were good. Our whole party enjoyed the experience.
My husband and I were just there last Thursday. Never been, and were pleasantly surprised to find a band playing. The Jack Bishop band. They are fabulous, and wed go more often if they were there. Maybe they dont have table service, I dont know, but no one came to take an order, at all. After 20 minutes, I sent my husband to the bar to get drinks, and nachos, as there was a menu on the table. They couldnt make a Pina Colada, (is this normal?), nor was the kitchen open. It was like 8:15... Subsequently, my husband had to go to the bar for every re-fill. That was a big disappointment....But, the band!!! Anywhere you see that has The Jack Bishop Band playing, get there. I see now its Flipside, and I havent seen any positive reviews on them.....Otherwise, nice club, nice sized dance floor, and we enjoyed watching the dancers.....
My wife and I had a great night of family, friends, and dancing. The crowd made ita mature and fun filled environment. The band was excellent and the dancing was amazing. We cant wait to go back and take advantage of the dancing lessons that start at 7 before the band begins to play at 9. We look forward to our next country experience at the Maverick.
Scotty Freel and the Flying Diamonds Too Loud! Tonight we went on our usual Thursday night of dancing and listening to music at the Maverick. Playing most Thursdays now, is Scotty Freel and the Flying Diamonds. A very good band! The loudness level at the beginning of the night was good but as happens in most bars, the volume keeps increasing and increasing such that as we danced near the hanging speakers the sound was so loud we couldnt stand it. It was mainly the bass that was overwhelming and distorting the bands sound. I asked the sound engineer if she could turn it down and she said she had no control. I told the waitress we were checking out because of the sound. I have hearing loss and tinnitus already and this just makes it worse. There is documented evidence that bars normally crank up the volume so people wont be able to talk to each other and when they cant talk, they buy more drinks. As I was leaving I told the general manager Derrick why we were leaving and he said they keep the decibels under the legal limit and its a bar and a band playing music. Perhaps 40% of the crowd at the Maverick is people over 60 years old these days and I know they do not appreciate loud music. It doesnt need to be that loud to enjoy it. I told him Im a good customer that comes regularly, buys drinks, buys food and tips well. They are going to lose good customers like myself if they dont adjust to their paying customers. Scotty Freel band: you are a good band, you dont need to have the sound cranked up that loud to sound good and the bass is too loud and distorting your sound. Ill be spending my money elsewhere unless the Maverick keeps the volume at a reasonable level and I warn future customers that hearing loss is a real thing and be wary of this venue and this band.
Came for the concert. Atmosphere and music was amazing. The food and drinks were great!
Liked instructor and also that they made the women get off the floor when they think they can dance with glasses/bottles held on the floor. Could educate on dance protocol. .leave lane around edge for country 2 step. Waitress 2 nights served without utensils...asked...never returned. Would sell more drinks with more staff.
Went there for the first time on Friday night to do a 1 hour dance lesson for $5. We had lots of fun and learned some new dance moves. The crowd was mixed with younger and older people. They had live music starting around 8pm.
I attended the Chis Cagle concert January 22, Chis Cagle was amazing in concertThe concert was sold out. The Maverick staff, bartenders and servers, security did amazing job accommodating the crowd of of people
Great place for live music swing and line dancing. Good drink specials
Love the live music! Both Maria and Holly were great and attentive at the bar. Rating it 2 stars because you are constantly being yelled at for having drinks on the dance floor and getting yelled at while taking a break to drink on the small ledge by the dance floor “because you’re in the way”. Those rules just seem real silly in an adult environment.
Epic place. Danced all night with some beautiful women. Great vibe and friendly staff.
Best country dancing place in Tucson right now. Food and drink are a bit pricey except for their daily specials. Decent sized dance floor. A good time for sure.
Drank two 16oz Stellas for less than $11 at the airport. Bartender Lindsay got me my first beer before they opened...officially! 5 star review!
Hated it . Some of my friends and i went there on dance lesson night. the establishment and the teachers seem to do everything in their power to make you feel pathetic ,while we were just there to have fun. The bouncer was unprofessional. he was bugging my friend for something stupid , then he started harassing me.i wont be coming back here if they are going to treat us like that
To the point they kick me out because they say I had enough and I saw the point where emt picked her up and non of them where there to assist and they left horrible service and aggressive to the point I felt insicure that alll they want to feel aggressive and have control on their own without someone higher with power. Careful who is there if corporate answers
This place appears to have non stop fun and the dancers have smiles on their faces and everybody dances. First time visiter and will return for dance lessons next time Im here. These people are having too much fun and I dont want to miss this!
Was here on Sat night and they played so much club music that we didnt even get to dance. It was really disappointing and honestly if they keep doing this well have to find somewhere else to dance. Even Whiskey Roads plays more country music than the Maverick at this point.
I love going to the Maverick to country dance. They put on lessons every week which is also fun to attend!
Woman bartender is rude and demands tips.
Went there for a party exceptional service great music
Had a great time definitely stopping by next time I’m in town.
Our group rented out the bar from 10pm to 2am, staff was very unprofessional, treated us with complete disrespect, also let in random people and made everyone who was inside go outside again for ID checks AFTER they already checked them. This is a very poor country bar with trashy management.
Just stopped in after BJs Restaurant for a couple cold ones and to watch my daughter show people how to dance
Great Country Western Dance Class Friday nights at 7pm with Laurence Bonfoey. Great fun for only $5. Couples and singles welcome. And stay after to dance to a great band!!
Love this place I recommend this place to anyone who wants to get Their line dance or that two step on and other dances as well music is great cant lie the bar tenders girlz give great service serving you right!! I receive the Greatest company When I step into the Maverick I know the night will be great!!💃🕴Anyone who drops in will Surely have a Great Time!!
Always a fun place to dance and have a good time. Yee Haw, baby!
Hahaha this is NOT a country bar unless you like line dancing to rap and pop country. Its a college bar trying to be western but this is a joke🤣
Was a great time except for the Senior citizen bouncer straight trying to fight me for some odd reason, even followed us to our vehicle.
Never ever get the chips and salsa. Must be a no name brand chip from grocery store and jazzed up ketchup. So gross...ZERO flavor
This place gives me cringe 😬 nothing but fake wanna be vaqueros / cowboys vaqueras / cowgirl . these are the real once🇲🇽❤️
I dont even like country music but I still had a blast.
Apparently a girl named Taylor Goth slept with all the security guards... Seemed trashy
Great place to go country dancing. Great lessons. Great band. Wonderful dance floor. Reasonable prices. People who go there are friendly.
Always a fun time to hang out listen to live music and dance with friends
Underage peoplemost of the crowd was under 21 which was very weird. The security were using random protocol and were asking inappropriate questions
Music is decent, drinks are great, DJ is kinda rude. So thats the three star..
Lots of fun. But Im not sure what happened. The bar tender at the main bar was extremely rude to me. Had one beer and left.
You get what’s expected from a Tucson country bar! Great 🎶 though! They need a bigger space!
When they have a live band or not its so much fun to dance here! Everyone is friendly and you can ask people to teach you to dance.
Good food and great service but a bit lacking in the atmosphere
I can only say that they need to put sign up that emphasize whites only 😤..... really sad cause I love country music and line dancing.
Really enjoy those bar very laid back good time
What a wonderful place, The Maverick is a Tucson icon and I just love to come here with the girls. Its one of the best country dancing places around!
Lots of creeps starring at babes. Lots of incredible dancing. Saw a guy doing a line of Skoal. Family friendly.
I absolutely love the Maverick. We go there all of the time, every week. They redid their menu recently and the food just got even better.
Love all the staff. The door guy always remembers me and the bartenders are always awesome. Friday nights are my favorite!
Best security and bar service Ive come across in Tucson thus far. Not a fan of country, but its still a fun bar to chill at.
This place is always lit. Good deals for n drinks. Good vibes.
Advertised brunch on Saturday 2/11 and they didn’t even knew about it, seems like the don’t communicate
Super fun country bar! I wish they did more line dances. It is mostly 2-stepping.
No Motorcycle Club Colors. I dont support this place.
I was unsure what the scene was going to be here, but Kennedy’s class is the best! He really brings a unique vibe to the place.
Best country dance club in Tucson. Hot women. Good bands.
Very good sound and atmosphere.Easy going, enjoyed it a lot.
Crappy service. If youre looking for a country bar, I would suggest Maloneys. Better service, price and friendlier service. I know we wont be back here again!
This is a very welcoming environment and the ladies that go here are not only beautiful but they love to dance with you.
We tried ordering a drink at the bar and the bartender said she couldnt serve us for two minutes. Two minutes!? The place was empty. We left wo ordering.
Kinda Trash food wasnt good staff horrible out of state good luck
Great place to hang out with friends and dance with my honey!!
Live band and dancing. Girl out number guy about 2 to 1.
Fun younger crowd on fridays, decent live band. Any other day is just old people slow dancing.
We go wacth the chargers game every week very nice lovely staff super friendly always a great time GREAT food
Love taking their linedance lessons. Art is such a great teacher and so nice.
Please ask that guy vaping to go outside I don’t like the dangerous chemicals he is blowing inside. I’m not the only one who doesn’t want it inside 😾👎🏼
Best place to drink and dance to country music in Tucson
Owner is against $15 minimum wage. Stupid. I loved this place but won’t be going back, stay away.
GREAT place on Sunday to watch NFL.
Racist place refused service to two of my black dates tow separate times because they had a license and not a drivers license.
Had a great time. Good Vibes

Amazing place, great food, staff and ambiance. Definite must go place in Tucson.
Dance lessons are so much fun!
Dance floor is a little crowded for comfort. Only 2 step dancing. Middle aged crowd.
Country line dancing ugh yeah I like it. Plus you can play some pool in between!
Loved the atmosphere, live music and the people.
Live 🎶 music and a packed dance floor . Good times
The band is horibble like get a good band . Wow wont be back
