In late 80s my kids and I stayed at Bowen Ranch with my sister in law. Back then it was famous for being a nudist ranch as well as a nudist hot spring. Curious tourists, both near and far, arrived by the bus loads. From the ranch to the hot springs was a mile hike down the mountain and clothing was optional. It was natural and beautiful.
Hey Brent, Jessica, and George. Its Richie. Im back at my house, but will definitely be back over there once I get my van back from the shop. Yall have my number.Review - Love this campground and the hosts are awesome people. Was here for the first time last August and then stayed for about a week at a time a couple times in the past couple months.Camping spots are mostly large and spaced out and not on top of one another, though there are a few in the same area if you are going to have a larger group with more than a couple vehicles.Highly recommend checking out the camping area with the Recreation Tent at least once. More secluded camping spots with a large military style tent (guessing about 16 x 40) that has a sauna, hot tub, heated shower, pool table, bluetooth speaker plenty large enough for the tent, plus a few other amenities. They also have furnished glamping tents available, 3 zip lines to ride, and seems like they are constantly working on adding more and more to the property and existing amenities.
We came to camp here in Mid-July. We expected it to be hot and we were informed to bring our own means of shade due to the lack of trees and natural shade. That’s fine. What we did expect there to be onsite was grills on the fire pits, showers and restrooms. When we arrived, using the directions provided to us (which was pretty specific and minimal confusions), you’ll be met with a few staff that are set up in their RV. It is extremely hot and the camp host did not have a shirt on—that’s fine. He tells you to choose your own camp site and to find one that has a grill if that’s what you want. They may all be taken so beware— bring your own means of cooking if you intend on camping just incase. The showers take a small hike to get to and are a tarp set up on a concrete slab, there’s about 4 shower heads next to one another and a couple plastic chairs to set your items on. It’s a shared space, so don’t expect privacy or to be able to control the temperature of the water. The restroom is a little bit aways from the shower and there’s only one toilet. When I went, it was not clean. There’s no trash bin so there was feminine products on the floor used and open. Gross. Bring your own bag for trash, toilet paper, wipes, hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes. No faucet on camp site so bring a bucket to do dishes and what not. The dirt is compound and dense so bring extra heavy duty stakes and a mallet to really secure your tents and pop ups with. It does get very windy.Bring an extra ice chest with just ice because ice will melt quite quickly. For the hike, if you have hiking sticks I recommend them here because the hike back from the hot springs is very steep and incline the whole way. It’s rocky and narrow paths. Also bring atleast 1/2 a gallon of water per person, as they recommend. You will drink it. Also bring food because if you’re swimming and hiking, you will need fuel. Also remember to take marking tape incase you get lost. There’s pretty much markers on the rocks the whole way but there’s a few splits I marked just because there’s a couple different trails. The listing is a bit misleading but it does have what it says it has.
Wonderful atmosphere, the hike is liberating and the fact that mineral hot springs awaits your arrival to cool off and then a deep mussel Theropy from the hike and shaking off the week in a rejuvenated soak! Plenty of privacy and different heat springs to choose from!(NO Trash or Graffiti) this is Gods domain protected from the human parallel.1 entrance is hike and be back before night!2 nd entrance same price but offers overnight camping and bathrooms a fire pit and drinks!Did I mention the great tents for rent! I loved this place for camping, hiking, being wrapped in nature! The hot springs were some of the best Ive ever been to. Highly recommend!Note: Follow the written instructions to a T. Otherwise, you will get lost. The experience was well worth the time.
This is the original & best place to enter the trail to the hot springs, and also the most reasonable cost wise. The owner only charges $5 / person, while the other entrance point is double or more. You have to swim across a chilly creek to get to the hot springs ♨️.
My partner and I unfortunately did not end up staying at the Deep Creek Hot Springs Campground at Bowen Ranch because we believe it to be a scam of some kind. We followed the host directions precisely, avoided the turn off that led to the “creepy neighbor” site, but when we drove underneath the large Bowen Ranch sign, we were met with a checkpoint with 3 hand painted banners telling us to stop and pay, a military surplus vehicle, and a shirtless man working on a broken down trailer. All of this could have been overlooked, only when I told the man that we were looking for Jessica, the host, he said he had no idea who we were talking about. He claimed that there was no campsite near here owned by a Jessica, but that we were welcome to come back to his site if we couldn’t find it. My partner and I drove through the checkpoint to see if perhaps this guy was just the crazy neighbor just trying a new tactic to prevent us from reaching the real site. But when we pulled through to the coordinates where the campground should be, there was several more military surplus vehicles, and many dirty broken down RV’s. No sign of the brick fireplace or shower amenities promised on Hipcamp. Big hoarder vibes. I then tried to contact Jessica by calling and texting several times - and I never received a response. My partner and I waited for an hour trying to problem solve, but ultimately turned around and drove home because we did not feel safe.
Had an incredible time at Bowen ranch with Brent and jessica and george. Extremely sweet and kind people. Very happy I know to come here instead of the neighbors place who has historically been extremely rude and sketch. The real Bowen ranch has been saved and the vibes are amazing. So grateful!
Came here yesterday and we all had such an amazing time!! The owners were so sweet and helpful and guided us to the trail entrance when we got lost on the way over. There was a bathroom for us to use as well before the trail that was really clean and nice. They also let us pet their horses and had so much respect for the land and for animals. The actual hike wasn’t too long, less than an hour to get down and a bit longer to come back. Even hiking after the sun set, we felt very safe. The springs were beautiful and so worth it!! We came during the fall so the weather was around 50-60 degrees which I think was perfect, I would recommend coming here during cooler weather.
The owners were nice and explained the hike to us before we went. The camping location was close to the trailhead. We enjoyed our stay here
This is a scam they actually are faking out the original deep creek hot springs guy whose been there forever and actually works to keep the springs clean and does search and rescue. Eff this fake place.
My husband and I wanted to go hiking and experience the hot springs as well as the zip lining, we were excited. Went on line and realized there are to areas offering the experience, the Bowen Ranch seemed to be the most credible due to website, however NOT the case!!!The website directs you to pass the green tent and water tower to assure your at the right location…we get there and the registration site looked abandoned with old RVs parked out there and filthy dirty, funny cause the signs all around it are telling you to take your trash with you.No one was there to assist you with maps or directions or anything!!! There are a lot of painted signs to direct you to leave your money in an envelope and placed it in an open mail box??? Very unprofessional. The whole experience was very disturbing, we felt very uncomfortable, it gave off Chainsaw Masquer vibe, not what I wanted to experience. We tried calling this George guy on the slip they leave for you to fill out, to ask more questions, but he never answered and his voicemail stated not to leave a message…If there are beautiful hot springs out there we sure didn’t get to experience them, due to how unprofessional and scary the registration setup seemed…We do not recommend this place, if something happens to you, no one knows your out there, they leave slips for you to fill out but if no one is there to greet you or accept them, no one truly knows your there? It just doesn’t seem like a safe experience to me.Highly risky and suspicious
I didnt go here. Someone used my Google account and hacked everything in my Google account from emails, the stocks market, google apps, cellphone and bank account. Please investigate and fix this problem please. Thank you.
Stayed here in April 2021. Sites were nice, close to hot springs, and hosts were decent. What I didnt like was to see razor wire on the fence. I honestly couldnt see the point. There are lots of wildlife in the area, lovely as it is. Razor wire is not acceptable anywhere outside of a concentration camp or prison. I think the owners dont see the forest for the trees. Will not be returning and wont recommend.
Such a great experience! My friends and I were looking for a place to camp and couldn’t find a spot that allowed us to enjoy ourselves as a group. And then after mistaking this place with the ranch near by we found what we were looking forAmazing view perfect distance from the hot springs and an amazing crew of hosts that gave us the best camping experience.Thank you Jessica, George, Brent and MattYou guys Rock🔥🤘🏼🏕
We camped in the hot springs was beautiful.
If you are looking to have a beautiful experience with nature, DO NOT come here. visiting this campground was heartbreaking. this campsite called “Bowen Ranch” is violating and using the namesake (and address) of the ORIGINAL Bowen Ranch in order to get business. They’re advertising this place to people who would usually be going to a resort or a water park, which this environment is very much not like that. During our visit, we witnessed people leaving trash and getting wasted IN the springs, trashing it. We witnessed people collapsing from dehydration and sheriffs coming from helicopters to save them from the hike back uphill (which is pretty intense). If you’re buying a campsite online, that’s the exploitative camp. There were also people living on the campsite that seemed to be mixed in with heavy drugs and violent behavior. The original Bowen Ranch goes by the honor system and requests cash ($5 for springs, $10 for camp). Again, if you love nature, go to the original Bowen Ranch, and support a family that truly respects the springs. Do not support this business which seems to be run by people that are the wroooong kind of environment for a piece of nature so precious.
Went for my birthday and Matt was super friendly and helpful. Hike was mellow to the springs. Camping spots are spaced pretty far which is nice. They have fire pits and wood for sale definitely coming back!
BEWARE! Slashed Tires 🤬I parked along the forestry road just down the hill from their campground (all perfectly legal) and they obviously didnt like that because I returned from a nice soak in the hot spring to 4 dead flat tires!!Too add on top there was NO CELL SERVICE and the trail was too difficult for AAA help anyway.Only a real psycho tweaker would leave someone stranded in the desert with no water and no cell service!!
We came to the campground via the trail from the hot springs because we were hiking the PCT. We had no reservations and honestly had no idea where we were but staff member Matt was incredibly helpful and accommodating. We stayed the night at the campground which was very pleasant. Thank you Matt and the other campground staff!
Such a beautiful spot with very accommodating owners. So grateful for the showers and toilet. A step up from other sites. The pool was a savior on the hot days when a hike to the hot springs seemed too far.
This place has my business. They have a shower so you can clean up after a long hike. I recommend the showers are warmer in the day time. Very helpful
Excellent and well maintained pay per night camp site. Glamping tents available as well! Clothing optional at the hot spring.
Awesome camp ground, very clean and has a shower and little outhouse. Close hike to hot springs. Thank you!
This place is ran by a tweaker couple who is always fighting also when I return to my car it was broken into and stuff stolen I would not trust them for anyting next time going back to Bowen Ranch
An amazing and beautiful place, well kept bathroom and showers and trail! Thank you!
Very tough hike in and out. Bring lots of water.
The owner of the campground was a very friendly and helpful.
This is NOT the original Bowen Ranch. Dont go here.
Absolutely amazing views and stunning mountains
Beautiful place had a blast...
