.enrys on the market is one of the oldest and most historical buildings in the area to have food. They have three levels. This is my second time being here, and the drinks are always great, and the food is amazing. The atmosphere is a beautiful old world Jazz vibe. My only complaint is that upon entering, no one greets you, not even the bar stuff they just stare at you. I had to ask if we see ourselves or if we wait on a hostess because we had been standing there for a good 5 minutes with no one saying anything to us. The bartender didnt even take a moment to say welcome to Henrys, or someone will be with you in just a mom .ent they just stared at you. It was definitely not an inviting and very pretentious attitude. However, the food is always great and definitely overshadows the staffs lack of customer service or attentiveness.

Came here on a whim for lunch and were happy with our choice. We ordered the shrimp basket and the chopped salad with salmon. The salad was very fresh and they did not skimp on the shrimp. The bourbon peach tea was good but I dont recommend the rum punch because it was too sour. We came back here later to experience the rooftop. I recommend going around sunset for nice views before it gets very crowded at night.

Henrys has got to be one of the most unique places on Market Street. The building itself is comprised of a restaurant on the first level, a whiskey/bourbon lounge on the second, and a rooftop bar on the third. The restaurant always has good classic southern foods with a little Charleston flare and is delicious. The staff are friendly and ready to help you with anything. The whole building is pretty clean and well put together. Do mind that the lounge on the second level is only open for a few hours during the evening. The rooftop has artificial grass flooring and two bars where you can get fairly-priced cocktails, wine, and beer. The view of the streets below is pretty cool from up top, and the music compliments the general atmosphere. Later at night they do have live music on the restaurant stage and there is always a long line to get in, so get there early. The cover is usually about $20. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Market Street for the food, drinks, and entertainment.

Fun place to drop in for lunch or dinner. I walked across the street from the city market and landed in the perfect restaurant. You can feel the history here beautiful paintings, and Wood bar. Excellent service and the food is absolutely perfect. Clearly there is a presence of jazz and local fan favor in this place. I’m sure lots of history has been made right here at this spot. Definitely a comfortable environment. I chose to sit in a booth like a awkward reclusive emo, but I guess that is the social norm in today’s world. As a non-drinker, I prefer that. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👑👏🏽🐺

On March 30th, 2024 My husband and I stopped at Henry’s On the Market Restaurant. This place is located at 54 N Market Street in Charleston, SC 29401. Our waiter was Mr. Spencer M, and he was so welcoming. We were starving when we went into the Restaurant. My husband and I like to try new things so we did ask question regarding the menu. We started off with a Happy Hour drink there famous Rum Punch. Spencer did suggest the following; We ordered a cup of the crab soup, followed by a Crab Cake Sandwich and I wanted to try their Jambalaya rice. The food was delicious, basically everything. Spencer was so hospital-able, a nice looking young man and very personable. He made our dining experience wonderful. When we visit Charleston again we will stop in for the crab soup which was personally my favorite. Best soup ever tasted thus far. Kudos to the Chef.Spencer you ROCK!!!!MARIAE

Henrys was a last resort for us because we had just made it into town and wanted something close to our hotel. The food was really good, except for my mothers chicken fingers she ordered.I had the blackened chicken pasta, and it was so wonderful. I typically dont care for Alfredo sauce, but this sauce was so creamy and flavorful. The chef seasoned everything to perfection on my plate. My father had Jambalaya, and I believe he liked it. My wife had the salmon sandwich (I dont remember the correct name of it); it was delicious. She gave me piece to try.I recommend trying this place.Overall, it was good dining experience.

Henry’s is a great, cool, classic spot in downtown Charleston right next to the market. There is always a happy-go-lucky crowd and often live music. The building has multiple levels and a lot of different rooms and spaces all with their own unique feel, making this bar feel different every time I go especially if it is beautiful summer day on the rooftop deck, a Saturday night with live music in the whiskey room or a football Sunday at the main bar. Be prepared for a $20 cover or more if they have music on the weekends.

We decided to eat here because of the restaurant’s history. The inside looked really neat but we didn’t get to see the rooftop. It seems like it might be a better bar than a restaurant? Food was good except the mango salsa was more like chopped mangos with some spices, very dry. Sadly there were kids outside our window heckling people to buy roses the whole time which really threw off the vibe.

Another in our parry also enjoyed the shrimp and grits. Chicken o added to the chopped salad was quite tasty. There are more onions than any other topping on the salad, though. And no blue cheese in the blue cheese dressing, but it didnt taste like ranch, so I guess thats what it was. Portions are good-sized but kind of pricey for what it was.

Found this place to eat a late dinner at 9:30 pm, only serve until 10 pm. The live music intrigued us. They offered 2 bands, one on each level; Country/Rock and Top 100. $5 cover. The jambalaya was amazing. I normally don’t eat rice and was planning to eat the meats only, but I couldn’t help myself. It was one of the best dinner dishes I ate on my 5-day vacation. They accommodated vegan requests. The people watching was superb, especially up by the dance floor. We loved the music, and my bestie stayed out later than her curfew, because we were having so much fun listening to both bands. Random notes: The upstairs smelled insanely strong like maple syrup. A double tall drink was $20.

It has been a while since I have enjoyed a restaurant so much that I have been unable to put the meal and the experience out of my mind. As a graduate student in hospitality who has been working in multiple realms of industry for a little more than 5 years, I could write an essay as to why I will never visit any other restaurant in Charleston, but I will do my best to remain brief.Firstly, the food was amazing. As an appetizer, my party of three shared the calamari which was delicious and I will be ordering again (once I have made my way through the rest of the menu). As an entrée, I ordered the mahi and it was cooked perfectly, the flavor was amazing, and the presentation was beautiful. The two friends I was dining with ordered the blackened chicken pasta which they both enjoyed very much. I would recommend everything we ordered to anyone grabbing a bite to eat at Henrys.Secondly, and this is the main point that wowed me to the point of writing this Google Review, the service was of a quality I have yet to find in many other restaurants-- especially at such an affordable price point. Our server was Garrett and he was incredibly charming and very kind when my friends and I were so indecisive about what to order. He kept a close eye on waters and my friends drink to ensure we were never having to grab his attention for any refills. One thing that has become too common in the restaurant industry is servers obviously working for tips. This was not at all the case with Garrett. For context, I have a friend from high school who comes from Tennessee to visit for a week at the end of every summer. This is the only time we see each other during the year and we always have one night where we treat ourselves to a little bit of a fancier dinner. It was very clear to me and my guests that Garrett recognized this was a special night for us and was very respectful of our time and conversation as he remained available to us without the multiple interruptions that many servers make. Additionally, Garrett continued to refill our waters and let us enjoy our evening until we indicated that we were ready for the check. To me, this was a sign of a well-trained server and a higher-end service standard, which was extremely pleasing to find at a modestly priced restaurant.Furthermore, when my friend was brought the seafood pasta instead of the blackened chicken pasta, Garrett went above and beyond to rectify the situation. Assuming the correct dish would be brought out quickly, my other guest and I decided to wait to begin our meal until the last entrée was served. After a few minutes of waiting (which was a great sign that every meal is made fresh to-order), Garrett brought out an order of fries and said here is something for you all to snack on while you wait. This has stuck in my head because it showed that he was watching our behavior and did what was in his power to eliminate an inconvenience rather than offering a free side as an apology to avoid any complaints or bad reviews (not that we would have ever done either). I was just so beyond impressed by Garretts attention to detail that the entire evening has been unable to leave my mind.To management, Garrett and whoever trained him deserve a raise. My only regrets are that I didnt tell this to him in person and that I didnt tip him 100% of the bill-- he did more than deserve it. Henrys is lucky to have him and he is the reason I will returning to your restaurant whenever I am in Charleston.Garrett, thank you so much for such an enjoyable and memorable.

I only WANT to say positives about Henrys - awesome food and people who work there. The drinks are great as well! Atmosphere would have been a 6 out of 5 and the ONLY reason it is the lowest rating is that it is multi-tier open roof dining which is amazing but does allow cockroaches to reach those seating areas... I know this sounds bad but its just because of the open air access, all inside is very clean and its very fun.

We just came here for drinks on the rooftop. This is perhaps the best rooftop in Charleston. It’s large, it has swings, tables, at least two bars, and lots is shaded spaces. Plush because it is so close to the water, there is a wonderful breeze that helps cool you down. You can easily come here and spend your entire afternoon here working remotely or hanging out with friends. Also, they have a private room upstairs (pictured) that would be a excellent space for a celebratory cocktail party (rehearsal dinner, bridal shower, baby shower, and etc.). Her group decided to go to the bar and sit down while they wait for their table. Our friend, who is 7 months pregnant, ordered a club soda for her drink. The bartender immediately kicked her out of her seat because she “was not a paying customer & he needed the real estate”. There was no line for the bar & there were empty seats. My fiancé and I were super excited to try this place out, especially because of the history behind it. We arrived around 8:30pm last night and was ID’d at the door by security, but it was no biggie, we were seated almost immediately. After being greeted by our server, we were told that they were out of steak (bummer, because that’s all I wanted), fried chicken and a couple sides. Again, no biggie, I settled for a chicken pasta. Food came out fast which was great! But, when we received our appetizer (Fried GREEN Tomatoes), it was such a disappointment. Our tomatoes were RED & sweet! Not what we were expecting. We tried to eat it, but it tasted so different. I would have rather been told that they were out of that as well, instead they served us the tomatoes that came with their burgers. Great location, food was good. Matt the bartender/server on the 2nd floor has the sweetest spirit! The experience was my biggest downturn, being moved twice as the only black group eating there on a Monday evening (country night) was a slight obvious inconvenience. But we enjoyed the evening, jazz night preferably next time. If theres a next time for me 💁🏾‍♀️.

Food was average at best. We put our name in at Hymans but it was over an hour wait and it was chilly outside and this was the only place that did not have a wait. My wife got the fried platter and got shrimp and scallop. They were both super salty and a little soggy. I had the blackened mahi and it was okay. The atmosphere was really great and seems like a great place to go for drinks and music when they have it. It was our only not outstanding meal during our 7 days here.

We had 4 days visiting in Charleston and found Henrys on the first day, we had such a great time that we ended up back there all 4 days! Great location, it was right downtown near our hotel on King St. and walking distance. Greg and his awesome staff, memorable bartenders Randy, Kyle, Jordon, and Andre, were always interacting, joking around, and super personable with the customers. Henrys also has several levels with rooftop patios and lounges. We loved the cozy atmosphere of the Whiskey Lounge, the bartenders made awesome craft cocktails and the food was delicious (the She-Crab soup and Crab Cakes, yum!) The atmosphere was always fun and had great live music every night. I would definately recommend putting Henrys on your list when visiting in Charleston!

Henrys has it all. It has a traditional restuarant/bar area for food. It has the whiskey room for a calmer vibe and a more developed palette, including private rooms. And it has a rooftop seating area for live music.Their food selection is a mix of sandwiches and southern foods. I recommend the Gator Bites, which come with fries and a sweet chili sauce.Their service was attentive and considerate, giving great recommendations when asked. Highly recommend this for all sorts of occations.

Let me begin by saying the service was phenomenal! We were seated promptly, greeted by our waitress and served all within minutes. The atmosphere was typical downtown, lots of classic and beautiful touches of original architecture around the building. The staff was fun, and kind! Our food was great! I got the watermelon salad, which was presented beautifully, had all the right components and was a pleasure to eat. My friend got a crabcake sandwich which he very much enjoyed! Overall, I felt the experience was very enjoyable, though I felt it was a tiny bit overpriced, especially for the watermelon salad. However, I recognize that space in Charleston comes at a premium and that translates to higher prices sometimes. Id def go again!

Then after an hour on 4th visit some other employee walks up to the bar told us we had to get up he was moving our chairs. I told him as soon as we finished our wine we’d leave. He called us “grumpy old people”. What a jerk!. We stayed because Jesse intervened and told us to stay put. But I’m not so much of a fan now, except our one great server! Charleston has lots of good places. That treatment was ridiculous. They should have informed us our seats were temporary and they perhaps don’t prefer older clientele??? WTH Henry’s? DO BETTER! We were told that our party, including a person who is disabled and needs the dog, would have to go upstairs and eat outside. There is no national certification for service dogs. We are just shy of completing our training, and if I had put on the dog’s vest “service dog” instead of “in training” no one would have known the difference. We have never been told before we couldn’t eat inside or required to go up stairs with someone who is clearly disabled.

My statement also showed the $20 cover charge, but I’m not disputing this amount. Not the best example of places to dine in the area. Location, location, location. That’s probably what keeps this place afloat. We planned to stop by based on lots of positive reviews. To each his/her own. We stopped by at about noon so we expected a longer than normal wait. The hostess gave an estimated 15 min wait. No problem. Plus we knows that’s just an estimate. We weren’t starving and didn’t mind taking in the sights while we waited. About 30 mins later we checked our place on the list. We were updated with a 15-45 min wait statement. Okay...At about 1 hour we got the call. Not the end of the world. The wait was just longer than expected because people were enjoying their meals. We got seated and put in our order right away. We then sat for about about 30 mins waiting for lunch. I tried to order a few local beers... but the truck hadn’t arrived. 🤷‍♂️So I ordered an overpriced bottle of stuff you can get at a grocery store in just about every city in the US. I also ordered the catfish. The meals arrived and the general consensus from my wife, daughter and I was... meh. Not quite bar food. Not much better than any chain restaurant that can serve up similar menu items. Located next to the market I assume the place will be here serving mediocre food and overpriced drinks for another 100 years. As we entered I heard one of the bartenders telling someone at the bar how this place doesn’t do reservations for groups smaller than 8. He followed that up with the explanation that many of the other restaurants in the area are “fancy shmancy”... and they are not. Yep. I would agree with that statement.Had the three of us walked out with a $50 lunch plus tip I wouldn’t have been so tough on the place. But with a $67 bill for lunch... that’s closer to fancy smancy prices.I would recommend you skip this one and head for a fancy place for lunch or something cheaper for the type of food you will get.

This is after we had to chance down the staff to seat us after disappearing after they said, “let me go clean the table”, which took about 15 minutes, which they then took us to a dirty table they needed to wash. Chili was a special & came in a small container that was decent enough: average. Probably had to get rid of ingredients to make it a special. Recommend to at least go and try it but keep in mind nothing in this area of Charleston is going to be cheap. Was personally surprised when the bill was $70. So management please share this with your employees. Faith, life is hard and we all have difficulties while working especially in the service industry. Even if the smile is fake, smile. Greet you patrons as though you want them to enjoy their experience and spend money at your establishment. Im not sure what the deal was, but it took 20 mins for the waitress to come over and ask if we would like anything to drink. I asked for a drink menu. Every interaction was an attitude or sneer. We ordered fried green tomatoes and when they were brought to us it took another 10 plus minutes to get silverware. You could smell the burned grease smell permeating from the plate. A few minutes passed and finally silverware arrived with our steaks. Once Faith finally came over to check on us, we let her know we werent happy with the appetizer. Instead of apologizing, she grabbed the plate and tore away in a funk. The next 15 minutes she just ignored our table, so the next time I saw her, I asked for a to go box and the check. I thought about not tipping and being rude, but I do feel sometimes were not at our best and were doing everything we can just to make it though the day. The hostess greeted me and immediately found me a table. The server was prompt and brought out my salad while the salmon dish I ordered was cooking. I realized the time was close for me to have a zoom meeting and I requested my order be changed for a to-go instead. The waitress was very prompt in getting everything ready for to-go status and wasnt bothered when I asked to add a bread pudding to it. I rushed off with the food in the bag. I was on my way to Kiowah Island Golf Resort for the weekend, which is where I finished eating my meal. It was all delicious. I have to mention that the utensils, napkins and extra sauce for the pudding were all in the bag. I had ordered to- go at a restaurant on Kiawah Island only to discover when I returned to my room, there were no utensils or napkins. I referred another person to Henrys On The Market the very next day. Next time I visit Charleston, they will be on my list of places to go.

One of my favorite restaurants in Charleston. Great atmosphere. Great food. Great service. And theres lots of space to eat, drink, and be merry. Whether youre looking for live music, a DJ and a dance floor, a night out w/ quality drinks, coffee/mimosas on Saturday morning, or a nice dinner, this is your spot. Henrys has a nice selection of meals to choose from and with very good portion sizes. Henrys On The Market is a must!

Great staff and cool set up. The rooftop is a great spot. Clark, Madison, Jesse and Matt were great! We visited alot of places and Henrys is the only place we went back to a second and third time.

CAUTION - We had a Po Boy and a salad which were pretty good. Looks like a fun place. However the server changed our 11% tip amount on our signed visa receipt to 22%. It actually wasnt great service so 11% was intentional and sufficient. Watch your bills from here!!! I guess they figured the foreign exchange would hide it on the statement. My copy of the receipts are very clear. I caught two of these on our recent trip. I will be taking these up with Visa.

Insanely fast service. Our waitress was really polite. The pulled pork sandwich was amazing along with the shrimp tacos and she crab soup. The upstairs areas looked really nice though we dined downstairs for lunch. We will definitely be back soon.

Nothing to Write Home About! For lunch, we had the Jambalaya ($19) and Lowcountry Jumbo Lump Crab ($23.50). Nothing terribly special for the rather high price and average serving size. Beware...they add an auto gratuity of 20% if there is more than four in your party OR if your tab is more than $150 which is easy to hit due to the high prices. Cant imagine what dinner wouldve cost! The service was just okay, I guess thats what you get when the servers know theyll be receiving an auto gratuity of 20%, zero incentive to offer exceptional service.

A leisurely lunch at Henrys was a very nice break from our walking tour of downtown Charlotte. It is conveniently located near the famous Charlotte Market.

SO. MUCH. FUN. They had a man playing the saxophone to older hip-hop and R&B, he was amazing and brilliant. In another room they had a band and downstairs there was a band and a lets not forget the rooftop!! I was to busy having fun to take pics. Definitely a place for young and older.

Favorite place to end my evening in Charleston. From dinner to Henrys for drinks and music is always my go-to on a night out. Cant beat it. Sitting on rooftop while my husband smokes a cigar, overlooking Charleston, with a glass of wine- divine.

If I could give no stars, I would. if you are a person of color please dont eat here or give them service. im honestly not surprised anymore by the weird stuff in downtown charleston but i refuse to ignore it to where people dont know the kind of people thats working in these establishments and making their food. first off, host was very unprofessional. since when do you have to wait until another person is there to be seated? ive never heard of this ever. it was a party of 2, the other person was literally 3 mins away which that shouldnt matter because i shouldve been seated regardless! Ask for the manager and the manager took forever to come, i explain to him that was unacceptable. I use to be a manager in food & bev for years. so to have that kind of service because of what? is not making sense. i ask him whats the policy of being seated when you cant make a reservation online or over the phone? he told me he was aware of the situation already from the host and said she was new and that she shouldnt have told me i couldnt be seated & then ask me was i offended by it simply implying that because im a person of color. I said excuse me because never once did i felt it had anything to do with my skin but that she was unprofessional. i then ask for his card with his name & number and he refused to give it to me. i ask for his managers name & number and he refused again and said he doesnt have a manager he is the manager. I said okay, walked out and posted this review. PLEASE dont go here or spend anymore of your money at this place due to lack of professionalism. i was so disappointed due to i havent ate here before but heard good things about the food.

Went here for the evening. Their cocktails are great and they have a different atmosphere on each floor. I suggest getting there at least 1 hour before music to avoid the $20 cover though if you want to hear music!

Great place to take in the vibes of Charleston. Drinks were better than expected. Blackened Alfredo was VERY good. Just be wary of trying to get service on the rooftop bar (which was cool, but bring a drink up there dont wait for service).

This place has an awesome staff and great food! We ordered fried green tomatoes appetizer and it was better than my mom’s. I wanted Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp and the waitress made it happen. My wife ordered the jambalaya and ate everything! I have to say the only thing that outshined the food was our waitress! She made sure we never wanted for anything!

My husband and I were in the area looking for our last evening dining spot before we headed home. Promptly after walking through the doors we were greeted by a kind young lady asking how many? Whos face immediately turned sour, plopped the menus down on her pedestal and said flatly .... outside.... and gestured us to the right with her head! Appalled, I looked at my husband to make sure I that I wasnt reading the situation all wrong, only to catch his eyes just as wide as mine. Being the time of day, they werent busy yet. Kind of a calm before the dinner rush. The lighting was stunning and the jazzy atmosphere was definitely right up our alley in relaxation. ( A weekend without our 3 kiddos for our anniversary, relaxation was our theme for the weekend, lol!) Ascending toward the rooftop we were very impressed of course with the beautiful architecture of the establishment. As we reached the multi-layer outdoor rooftop, we came across another group of people who were coming down to the lower garden area seating to get out of the wind of the top portion. Husband and I went all of the way to the top ( now the only ones up there) and the fact that it was a cooler windy day wouldnt have bothered us, however the fact that nearly every single table was littered with dishes and trash (even on the floor) made the decision pretty easy for us, we were definitely NOT going to enjoy a meal surrounded with others left overs everywhere we looked . It clearly hadnt been bused since the lunch rush ( it was nearly 5pm ). As we descended, we asked the other group if they had been waiting long and they all replied yes with frustration and all we ordered a dip appetizer! . We thanked them and decided right away we would be going elsewhere. Entering back into the main building and approaching the stairs, a male server came around the corner with said appetizer and stormed directly in-between my husband and I (causing us to both push up against the walls to avoid being slammed into), without an apology or manners of any sort. That did it.... Icing on the cake. We were out of there and werent coming back. I really dont enjoy giving poorly rated reviews. Customer service is one of my strongsuites and its really disheartening when a place of this stature lacks this very important element. The 2 stars are for location, atmosphere and architecture only.

We had lunch at Henrys today. The She Crab Soup was quite good, however we also ordered the peel & eat shrimp that were absolutely rotten....and they were visibly very rotten yet still served to us. Simply disgusting. Yes they took them back and acknowledged they were rotten but didnt do anything else. We do not recommend this place at all.

What can I say, this has to be one of the best restaurants in Charleston, plus its location makes it pretty easy to get to. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed, features live-music and the staff were incredibly friendly, especially our waitress Amy, thanks again! The seafood is exceptional and all the other dishes we were able to sample were also very tasty (especially the Key Lime Pie). All in all, we were completely satisfied with our dinner and couldn‘t recommend Henry‘s enough!

This was the best meal Ive had in Charleston. The menu had a large selection of fish and other food and the best part is that it was not all fried. I had the blackened mahi mahi and it was excellent. The location is great and the menu had good variety and was delicious. i will definitely go back and bring other people. Thank you for a menu that had options for other than fried food!!!!

Highly recommend to enjoy the sunset and live music on the roof deck at Henrys. Ample seating for all group sizes and plenty of mirrors should you need to check yourself out, ha! We stumbled upon Henrys while en route to King Street and quickly turned around when we heard the live music. We came back the following night just to watch the sunset. Full bar upstairs with plenty of seating, including an outside swing seat if you arent interested in the sunset. Walk no further than Henrys for a delightful Sunday evening!
