What an amazing amazing place. We went on a Saturday for the 90’s music night and had so much fun.The place was packed but not overcrowded. The bars were busy but the wait not too long. The highlight of the place was the band. They brought the place alive with amazing music. Highly recommend visiting here and having a fun night here. The place has both inside and outside seating options Incase you want to catch some air.People of all ages were enjoying and dancing and drinking.A must visit!
Ill start by saying we had a good time. Also, were over 50, so theres definitely a generation gap (or two 😁). That being said, what we miss is the original format. It used to be about the dueling pianos. Nothing more, nothing less. The kids on stage were VERY talented, but it was obviously rehearsed. It was missing the spontaneity we came to love. Maybe its just a sign of the times.
We arrived at Howl at the Moon just before closing time and found the place still buzzing with energy, though not overly crowded. Despite only staying for about 45 minutes to an hour, we paid a cover charge and got drinks. The music that night was fantastic and very current. The musicians were amazing and did a wonderful job, creating a lively and enjoyable atmosphere. We danced, drank, and had a wonderful time.I just wish we had arrived earlier to enjoy more of the night. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in town! If you’re looking for a fun night out, this is a great place to check out!
Sorry folks, no food here, but outside, there is a taco stand, and its good. It is always a pleasure coming to this place, piano duo wars, excellent musicians and singers, they play upon requested songs, on each table there is a cup with pencils and scratch paper, write your song and pass down the paper to the piano players, drinks ( not much of a drinker myself) are good. Lots of characters and atmosphere is awesome. Age friendly but mainly late 30 s and 40s, at least that Saturday, March 30. If planning on going highly recommend to check their calendar of events
We had an event with Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. We enjoyed the event and the food servers were very attentive. The bartenders were professional. The live piano was exceptional. Overall I would recommend it. Special thanks to Whitney! (I hope I spelled her name right). She manages the events at this location! She did so well we had fun networking and got our businesses promoted!
Cute place, 10.00 to get in. Have to get there at 6 bc seats go fast, a lot of people reserve tables bc they can pay for them or they most bachelor or bachelorette partys so they have minimum seating.Prices are expensive , 1 dos beer is 7.99. Shots are 10.00 soo be aware. I like that u can win happy hour parties tho. Its cute place to go
Didnt order any food so cannot comment on it. The live band was awesome on Saturday night. One of the cool things about them is each play multiple instruments and can SANG! Variety of music that appeases whoever is in the crowd. We stayed until they closed at 130 am.
This was the coolest thing in San Antonio. We has such a good time here, Im considering going back to San antonio just to go to this piano bar again. It was so much fun, and so a great vibe.
I had heard a lot about this place around town, so my family and I decided to go there to celebrate my mother-in-laws birthday. They had a live band, comprised of white musicians, performing covers of popular rap songs, including WAP by Cardi B. To our shock, the band started using the N-word during their performance. We were completely disgusted, although it seemed everyone else in the bar was having a good time. I highly recommend avoiding this place. 10/10 would not return.
This place doesnt offer food but boy is it the most fun bar ever. Every single one of the singer/performers sing, dance and rotate and play every instrument. We had the time of our lives. I was hoarse the next morning from singing so much. We had the best time! Definitely a must visit if you love all genres of music. They played everything from heavy metal to 80s and 70s music. So fun!
Great vibes & entertainment. The servers checked back in a timely manner. Entertainment was def worth while, drinks made just right. If you’re in town wondering where to go, or need a good distraction def worth checking out.
This place was so much fun. It has a dueling piano bar with really Great singers who take requests. They have a wide selection of drinks and everyone has a great time there. The best part is it is right on the Riverwalk. You cannot go wrong here for a nice night out.
We didnt eat there. The entertainment was amazing. Talented musicians playing great music. Very enjoyable evening!Recommended if you enjoy music 🎶.
Had RSVP rail seating (totally not necessary if you get there early). Waitstaff was awesome and very prompt even as it got crowded. The only downside....the music was so loud you could barely hear the singers. Britney had an amazing voice and I wish I could have heard her more over the music
So much fun even when it’s crowded. The band is incredible, drinks are good & song selection is fantastic (& ability to $$$ to request songs or write messages is so cool)
We ended the bachelor party festivities at How at the Moon and it didn’t disappoint! Fun atmosphere, great drinks, and extremely talented musicians! It was like we went to 4 different clubs and a rock concert but we never had to leave! If you have a group of 4 or more I highly recommend getting a package and reserving a table. It was like having front row tickets. All in all- a very memorable experience!
I came here back during Covid times and my friend and I had an AMAZING time watching and singing with the dueling pianos. I paid a $30 cover for me and my parents to show them this awesome place tonight. Even asked the bouncer if there were dueling pianos as I saw a guitar on stage via the monitor out front. This confused me but he said yes. I asked when they started dueling and he said they should be getting started now. So we went up only to be disappointed. We stayed for maybe 3 songs before leaving. I miss the dueling pianos. Don’t come here if that’s what you are looking for as they have become way out of touch of what that actually means. I should have asked for a refund tbh.
We visited for the first time Saturday night & had an awesome experience! The entertainment was spectacular & the performers are very talented! From pianos to electric guitars to drums and the singers all so amazing! Many thanks to all who made our visit a fun night in San Antonio!
Best live bar music in the city. These guys go all night and take requests from country to mainstream pop to 90s. The players switch up instruments every few songs. Amazing. Bar drinks are good and very reasonable. You cant go wrong
It is fun and We had a good time. Would be great if they laid out their tables a bit better for sight lines around the pillar in the middle of the room. Rating is a little bit lower because I was expecting it to be a duelling piano format. It was really more just a band performance; there wasn’t really any duel involved.
We visited from out of town and spent over 6 hours on a Friday night. The band rocked and our waitress Angela rocked even more. We came back the next night and Angela treated us like old friends. So much fun. Thanks Howl and thanks to Angela for making it a great experience!!
I was sad to see that they dont have actual pianos anymore - they have been converted to keyboards. We enjoyed the live music, but I did miss the dueling pianos that used to be there! On a Saturday night cover was $10 per person and drinks were around the same. Wish there was more seating.
We also enjoyed ourselves n forgot and left loved ones just to party dance n play with others.,. Best experience to let loose then spread disease throughout the world to bring home to loved ones .. or those we pretended to love n care for. This is us to enjoy love complete strangers
This place is amazing with amazingly talented artists, who alternately play all the instruments! For a mere $10 cover charge you got a full blown concert with whole super talented band playing nonstop music requests along with their from 6pm-2am. Drinks are reasonablely priced with awesome waitstaff:) what a gem in the River Walk:)
Was there for a private party and boy, was it a party! The entertainment was great! Very talented musicians! We really enjoyed ourselves
We have been to SA so many times and usually do the touristy thing down town every time. We thought we had been / seen every bar in the down town area until this last weekend. Wow, we were blown away by this place. Had NO clue this bar existed. We ran into some gentleman by the Alamo who wanted to stamp our arm with a VIP stamp to get in free, so we went to check it out and we enjoyed a few drinks there. We danced, sang and enjoyed the band what was playing that night. What we did not like about the entire situation was having to go get our own drinks at the bar. It was packed and we not once had a waitress come to our table.
Please dont waste your time here. After paying the $10 per person for the entry fee, $100 in drinks, and $70 to the performers to play general top 40s 90s or early 2000s songs...they stated We dont know those, sorry. Disappointing is an understatement.
Went for a Bachelorette party and reserved two tables. The reservation included free tacos, 10$ gift card, and two vouchers for 1$ drinks. Had a 32oz (bucket) drink for 25 bucks and two 86oz for 35. The drinks actually tasted really good!!! They didnt just throw alcohol together. The waitress was attentive and over all they had really talented people playing live music.
I had an unexpectedly fantastic night at Howl at the Moon, a piano bar in San Antonio, during a work conference. Initially, I was skeptical, but this place goes beyond just a piano. Two pianos, drums, a guitar, and a bass created an incredible musical atmosphere. What blew my mind was the talent of the 4 musicians who effortlessly played all these instruments and sang backup or lead vocals.Dancing and singing along was an absolute blast, and the energy was infectious. Our waitress was outstanding, ensuring our glasses were always full. The bartender even surprised us with chocolate cake shooters, which isnt your typical concoction. It was a night to remember, and I cant wait to return someday. 🎹🎶🕺 #HowlAtTheMoon #MusicalMagic #UnforgettableNight #SanAntonioNights #DancingAndSinging
Some nights the talent is very impressive. Others are not. I asked for Angel from Montgomery . He kids on stage had no idea what that song was. Lol
This dueling piano chain has been in SA for so long that I’m not going to explain the concept. I’m sure there are PLENTY of other reviews that delve into that. I’ll just tell you that this place is an ABSOLUTE BLAST!They open at 6PM and charge a $10 cover charge and the performers start about 6:30pm. Drinks are $$$ - someone had a Margarita, and another had a Moscow Mule and they were $15 each (remember it is a tourist spot). There is a parking garage and a couple of surface parking lots close by.I was fortunate enough to attend with a friend who won a Happy Hour Package there. There are cards at the tables that you can fill out to enter to win one for yourself. I’m pretty sure if you fill out the card and give them your digits, you win, because my friend is just not that lucky (that’s right D, I’m talkin’ about you – LOL).The happy hour package let’s you invite an unlimited number of friends who get in for NO cover charge, each person gets two $1 drink tickets (but there are only a handful of drinks/beers to choose from with these tix – scroll to the end of this review if you want the deets), and an A-OK buffet of taquitos, nachos, chips and queso, etc. There must have been 6 or 8 performers that night (pianists, singers, guitar players, drummers) so they were able to rotate in and out all night long without a break in the entertainment. They were ALL top-notch entertainers.Everyone knows that you can put song requests in (and if you include a tip they will probably play it) but make sure you take advantage of what I call “The Mirror Tips.” You can tip them to write anything you want in shoe polish on the mirrors for all the world to see. It can be a silly statement, a congratulatory statement for a friend, or something to humiliate your friend (I chose the latter of course). The comment stays on the mirror until someone tips more than you paid to have it put up there. LOT’s of fun at this place – but pricey and crowded.I’ll stop rambling now and include the $1 happy hour party drink list as I promised above:Lonestar/Lonestar LightMiller LightCoors LightWell DrinksBarefoot Wines
Really awesome spot. It was packed and yet the bar tender kept us well hydrated. The band was incredible
They ladies that were singing that night were awesome the men not so much but it was a nice place to yell out a good song. The bar was slow to get your drink but all in all it was a ok spot if you like a good dualing piano bar.
Mind blown! Im not sure Ive ever seen a more talented group of musicians. 5 musicians played each instrument and sang songs requested by the audience. 5 stars are not enough
Howl at the Moon is a must visit! The musicians are INCREDIBLY talented and play such a variety of music, you will definitely find something you like. You can also request songs and there are very few they dont know. Great date night, place to meet people and have an awesome time! Stay for an hour or all night.
Musicians were excellent, great talent and energy. A great mix of members. Much better than a typical dueling piano bar! Really knew how to keep it moving without intermissions and stage presence was awesome along with musical abilities! First time here and will definitely come back.
Hey, I just had to share my experience at Howl at the Moon for Halloween, and it was honestly a great time! It was my first piano bar experience, and Im pretty pumped about it.The live music was fantastic, and the Halloween vibes just added that extra layer of fun. Im not usually a regular at piano bars, but after that night, Im genuinely considering making it a more regular thing. It was awesome, and I cant wait to go back! If youre into live music and a good time, definitely give it a shot.
Chilly day. Son went to turn on heater outside and bartender open her open and sarcastically with her eyes rolling states “don’t do that” then closed the window. When we got to her, she asked for IDs to when giving them back, she reached out to my son and flipped it towards him.She has the condescending attitude as she was walking around. Young lady with colored hair.Food was good but her service made for a bad experience.
No food served however can bring in from out side. Hard Rock across the sidewalk
We had a blast at the piano 🎹 bar. Everyone playing that night was amazing. Every member was extremely talented.
First time visiting with some work colleagues and we had a blast. It was a great show, very entertaining, and our drinks never went dry.
This place is so much fun! We went on a Tuesday night and it was crazy busy. We had such a good time that we went again the next night and brought coworkers and prospective clients with us. Everyone had a great time and was still talking about it the next day.The drinks were good (ask about the bucket 😳😂) and the service was great. Our server dropped by our table often so we could order more drinks. The musicians are truly talented. They rotated singing, playing the piano, guitar, and drums. True entertainers, they encouraged the audience to sing along and dance. We’ll be back whenever we’re in town!!
Hadnt been there in years but i gotta say its still an awesome place...atmosphere was great and the music was on point!
Great show 10 out of 10 would highly recommend. A must go to venue if you are on the River Walk in San Antonio
Didnt eat anything, but had drinks. The waitress and waiter were attentive and friendly. The musicians were so talented singing, playing instruments, engaging and fun. They were able to play all requests from rock, R&B to hip hop. The group thoroughly enjoyed everything and shut the bar down on a Thursday night.
Good place with fun entertainment. Drinks were good.
This place was amazing. Great service in the restroom. Great atmosphere. Good music. Definitely will return.
All the other Howl at the Moons are Dueling Pianos but not the Sananto location. Instead there was 3 additional people playing instruments and they knew NO requests asked to play. Dont understand why there was paper there to make a request and they took no request just peoples money.
Price was high for a table on the floor. Drinks weren’t great but great atmosphere.
Very dynamic and high energy place. The band last night was incredible, playing different genres of music, including song surprises that I had forgotten. Drinks were tasty, not watered down at all. People all around us were friendly only one upped by their staff. Came here with my friend from Australia and she left with a very big smile on her face with the American party type atmosphere. If in San Antonio, this is a cant miss place! Good job and good vibes, Howl At The Moon!
This place is awesome! Its got friendly staff, the musicians are talented and entertaining. Its super clean and the overall environment is fun. Theres no smoking so the air was breathable. Plus the place has security so you feel super safe being there. Expect cover charges that range from $7-10 dollars. I went for two nights, Thursday and Friday. Thursday, I bought 3 of the small buckets, which is what theyre known for, each one cost $24.00! I dont even know how much the bigger one costs but I imagine it to be in the $50.00 range. They are pricey but super delicious! Friday night, I ordered Dos Equis, thinking beer would be cheaper but drinks like beer and regular size cocktails cost $10.00 each! Therefore, I suggest maybe drinking a little before you get there or go and have a few and then go somewhere else if you plan on drinking a lot. If not, then have a few drinks and enjoy the show! Oh and also try the shots, the jello shots are good and there was also another one but I vaguely remember the name. I wanna say it was called the buttery nipple or something like that. It basically tasted like butterscotch and it was super delicious. Overall, we had fun nights at Howl at the Moon and I will definitely be going back!
For a dive bar this place is mediocre at best, however, given the location of no other lively places around this seems to be the place where most people go. That being said the music is trashy and repetitive, with a band that learned how to play yesterday. The crowd is consistent with the surrounding and seems hypnotized by the cheap alcohol and awfully singing and moderate performances
For hosting an event bar crawl, they werent prepared for it. Long lines, bartender overwhelmed and a bit short with their comments. Felt like no one knew what was going on. Different answers from different people.
I can’t really rate based off of atmosphere but the bouncers take their job too seriously. I have tried to get in to this place TWO times. The first time I was denied was because my friend had on the wrong pants and the second time was because my ID WAS CRACKED. I had never heard of that before. 10/10 would not recommend there are better places in San Antonio you can hit up.
This was our 1st time there & the piano players & singer’s were awesome & very entertaining- they kept the crowd involved -we had a blast! I would definitely recommend this place & can’t wait to go back. The only downside is they didn’t serve food, but did allow you to bring food in if you wanted.
I just wish we had Howl at the moon in Houston. It costs me a hotel night every time we go but it’s worth every penny. BEST PLACE TO HAVE A CRAZY GREAT SHOW/SINGING/ENTERTAINMENT♥️♥️♥️♥️
GREAT BAR! My colleagues and I fell in love with this bar almost immediately once we found it. Instead of bar hopping, we stayed and enjoyed the evening. It was karaoke night and goodness did they put on a show! GREAT atmosphere that never died!
Ive been visiting this HATM for 22 years. I love how they have kept pace with the times and have grown from a dueling piano bar into a place that plays multiple instruments and has a band that can play anything the audience requests. I will keep coming back, and continue to recommend HATM to friends and family.
21st birthday let me and my man in for free, i danced on stage it was super fun. drinks are fine nothing special wish they were colder. customer service and experience great
So much fun. The performers were so good and so entertaining. Will definitely go back when in San Antonio.
Always a great time. Service was great even with a packed house. Who doesnt love love music?
Over Labor Day weekend, I came here with a group of eight women for a bachelorette party and we had the best time! The musicians are super talented and engaging, with a knack for playing crowd-pleasing songs. Fernando is a really impressive bartender- especially considering how loud and busy it is in there. I could tell hes intentional with the drinks he puts out and wants his guests to be happy! He was also very patient and professional when I insisted on telling him how impressed I was (repeatedly) at the end of the night. Fingers crossed I wasnt *the* most annoying drunk girl of the weekend but probably at least in the top ten!A few tips- if you know youre going (especially with a group), theres really no reason NOT to do the Fast Pass. Its $25 and includes cover ($10), a $10 drink card, a Jello shot ($5) AND skipping the line. If your group is like mine (30 somethings on a girls weekend), youll think you dont care about the Jello shot- but if you stay long enough, the time will come! Also, I highly recommend Ubering (or walk if youre staying close by) as parking at the Riverwalk can be a little stressful!Overall, a super fun place for a night out!
I think I went into more places this visit and enjoyed myself. Make this one of your must see!
The wife and I did not like Charless singing. Hes great on the instruments, though. The other people there were awesome!
$10 to get in. The band was terrible. Too loud inside to even shout at each other. We escaped outside but the speakers follow you. Long Island Iced Tea out of a pre~prepared bottle that was awful. Truly depressing.
The band was amazing. The bartenders were also great!!
Band sucks they don’t even know classics like Billy Joel “We didn’t start the fire” or Nicleback “Rockstar”. Touch up on your songs that is sad. Years ago the music used to be much much better. I also remember it being more of a true piano bar back in the day, now it’s like a full on amateur band.
This place is fantastic! Every time my wife and I come to San Antonio we make sure we come to this bar at least one night. The group that plays here is one of the best live music acts Ive ever seen.
Had a blast, terrific entertainment, will come back anytime Im in San Antonio.
Carissa was absolutely amazing!! Girl needs a raise she was so attentive and amazing throughout the night
They dont know what real hurricanes are. Only go if youre prepared for a really drunk crowd that you may have to fight your way out of. Was fun for about the first hour, after that, not so much.
I went on a day where they had live music they played to the guests interest by taking requests, all ages enjoyed !!
Very versatile and talented musicians performed music from the 80s through todays hits. They like requests (especially when accompanied by a nice tip. Music started at 7:30pm and was still going when we left at 1:30am, non-stop as there were six musicians taking off instruments and rotated breaks to keep it going. Great fun. Cover charge so check the website for details.
Definitely don’t recommend. You pay an entree fee to get really poor performances and drunks. Might as well go to a karaoke bar for free. Not sure why there is an entrance fee or why anyone would pay for the ridiculous fees to have a table reserved.
Rude staff outside, but some of the bartenders inside were very nice. I would definitely not go back though. There’s plenty of better bars around the area. Don’t waste your time. The drinks are also wildly mid and overpriced.
The band was rough, it’s like an amateur night at karaoke. No offense to them but it sobered me right up.The bar itself is nice. Had a syringe shot, decently priced. But the vibes are just not it, it’s giving blacked out, messy, trashy.
Great performers, amazing servers, & about what you expect from a downtown bar/club.
Awesome location on the Riverwalk with dueling pianos. Performers were great and kept the crowd singing. Get there early before a line starts forming. Have fun!
Just visited. Good music and the bartenders was very friendly. The young lady with long blonde hair recommended my wife a drink and she loved it but I didn’t catch their name. Altogether a good time and helpful informative employees.
Entertaining, but the artists are selective on what they will play. I gave 20 dollars for the song Basket Case by Green Day, and they never played it. Couldnt imagine why. They played a Tenacious D song. I was pretty disappointed. Drinks are ridiculously priced for domestic beer.
This bar has to be a world wonder because it is SOOO freakin awesome!!!!!The live music is incredible, all of them are ridiculously talented. My wife and I have been there twice, each time had a completely different group of talent, both were over the top incredible.I cant say enough about this place!!!!!
Went here for after dinner drinks and entertainment. The three woman band was very good, and the male vocalist was decent. They sang some original songs but mostly did covers based on audience requests.
Fun bar with decent drinks. We had a good time even though we were there early in the night. The music was good and they played mostly well known hits.
They cater to the lowest common denominator, which is certainly understandable for the service capitalist that wants to appeal to the most people and have the highest chance of success. I cant say it was bad... the service staff is actually top notch. The problem is that the music is so damned loud that you cant actually talk to anyone around you. The musicians play the most karaoke friendly songs that most drunk rednecks want to try to sing along with. It would also be nice if the musicians would take a 5 minute break every hour to give peoples eardrums a rest. They go from song to sing in very rapid succession.
We went with some close friends to celebrate our 20th anniversary and we had an absolute blast! The entertainment was superb and the service was excellent!
Went for new years.. Drinks were all way way to sweet, I thought hmm ok maybe because I ordered the party type drinks so I tried an old fashioned and it was the sweetest drink if had for the night must have been 90% simple syrup. The live music was very entertaining but if you want drinks get them from another spot.
The sad thing about San Antonio is that it seriously lacks decent night life venues. Coming from a college student, San Antonio can be really boring. That changed when I went to Howl at the Moon. The crowd is definitely older than what I’m used to, but the experience is always a fun one. The drinks are good, live music is always AMAZING and it’s a great bar for the weekend. I wish more venues would take cues from Howl at the Moon. Love this place.
Apparently, skin color plays a big part in this venue’s selection of clientele. Less inebriated than my colleagues, I was denied access to the bar, when vendors who sell to me had invited me to the locale. Unfortunately I did not get to experience the atmosphere, although they were willing to serve my white friends, so I am going to call a spade a spade in this case. I’m calling the people who spend money with me right now to let them know they should not be there.
This location is a whole lot of fun and I enjoy visiting while in San Antonio. Unfortunately tonight(8-24-22) there was a Gentlemen that was a great musician, but his singing was horrible. (Hispanic guy/red shirt)He was off key and many people left because he was so bad. The other guys killed it, but every time he got up I could hear people around me groan. Hope he keeps practicing so he can improve. He had a great attitude and was funny, but the singing is terrible. Also I requested a song and left a tip and it never got played while I was there. It was an hour after I requested it when I left. They may have played it after I left, but I’ll never know.
Was there for the GoJo Purell Event!! We had such a blast!!
This place has truly amazing versatile artists. The most fun that I have had in months. The wait staff was also great. If you like to sing along, you should go. Tons of fun!
By far the best piano bar Ive ever been to. Most have one or two guys who play the same old songs, very predictable and boring. Not Howl at the Moon! This one had a full band that nailed a fun variety of music. Seriously impressed!
Very fun place with super talented musical artists!!
Awesome experience, we reserved a rail seat for two. Cost was $90, with that we skipped the line, has a personal waiter, and $20 gift cards for drinks. Musicians were amazing, they literally know ever song from every genre. When in San Antonio we will defiantly go back. It was a great spot to close out our weekend getaway!
Security team cowards act tough in numbers threatening to call cops when you refuse restroom attendants service. 1v1 they trash 🗑
Amazing experience. Always a good time
Been here three times recently. Came for dueling pianos, got a Katy Perry cover band. Sure wouldnt pay the cover for this. Had so much fun at other Howl at the Moons I kept coming back to this one
I went this past weekend with my girlfriends and we had a blast! Stefani made sure we had a night to remember. Never had an empty drink and danced the night away, definitely recommend coming here!
Overall it was a fun place to go to. I wasnt there long, maybe 2 hours. I would go again if it was something close by. There are better ones, but for it being my first time at a club/bar it was interesting and fun!
Fun girls night out. We reserved seats on the rail and it was perfect. With our reservations we received 2 -$10 dollar gift cards we could use on drinks and it included cover charge. Definitely recommend the reservations and sitting on the rail -gives you great line of sight for the pianos, and everyone in there. Great service. Really enjoyed it.
The place is awesome!!! The atmosphere, staff and band are excellent!!! My wife and I had a wonderful time. Place is clean, enough staff walking around preventing people from smoking and vaping, with is great in my opinion. Also mostly everyone was appropriately dress. Not have to be dress fancy but presentable. I only have on thing to criticize or maybe to suggest management to look into. I know is a modality now to have people in the bathrooms giving you towels and soap. But why do I need to feel obligated to tip someone just to use the bathroom? Then the 3rd time I went to the bathroom the guy told me I was a gold digger? What was that? I understand typing bartenders and musicians but I dont need a guy to give me paper towels and soap and then express his discontent because he wasnt tired. I still give this place 5 stars. Wonderful!!!
Great life music!! Excellent place!
Super cool atmosphere! I love the live music! Drinks are pretty pricey, and there is a door fee. Specialty shots about $9, but really good! Id say over all worth it if youre looking for a fun night! If youre ballin on a budget, maybe not for you
This place was SO much fun! We came for a bachelorette party and had the best time. The atmosphere and energy of the place was incredible. The band played so many popular songs of all genres. I will definitely be back!
The band was awsome. There arent much young people here and they charge a cover. Pretty packed and the drinks are expensive. Other than that the band was amazing.
It was the first time we went to this place and I can said the music was great unfortunately their employees were verydisrespectful and the bathroom attendees was verbally disrespectful and we did not get a Manager or anyone over those employees, they disrespectful womans and that show just how low they were raised Unfortunately. Dont want sound raisist but the black guy who was a security was the worst I strongly believed because we are white.Dont ever go this place
Wonderful pianists. Great music.
Did a silent disco outside of it and it gave you access to both howl at the moon and the club below. I was alone and the time of my life. Amazing vibe, I came straight from watching a Broadway show and the parking was easy. Great location, great music, great people.
My second time going, I’m 26, horrible service, 5 years ago, when I went the first time, the service WAS great, but has gone completely down, employees are unprofessional and very rude! They pick and choose, so be aware of the service here. Will not be coming back, read other negative reviews first, and watch out for the older bartender, made me feel uncomfortable, it’s not a good time if you have to be aware in a space that’s not safe!
It was a fun evening out. The talent these musicians have is absolutely incredible! We marveled at each picking up a different instrument throughout the night and knowing their songs well. So impressive and well worth the cover charge.
We had a GREAT TIME!! The music was the best on the river!
Really cool place, the band play/sing music on request, playing the piano (or both pianos) , guitar, drums and keyboard if and when the song requires it. Also had a jello shot out of a syringe (much easier than those little cups that you need to tongue).
Always an awesome time when I come here! Love how they do requests and have us singing all night. I really enjoy the large drinks they serve and the bar tenders are always prompt and friendly. Eat before going though as they don’t have a kitchen. If you want a good time this is definitely a good spot, especially if you have a group !
It kinda sucked! They had a lot of tables roped off as reserved. We stood around for about an hour after paying $20 to get in. A couple gave us a couple of chairs which was quickly taken away as no chairs allowed at the bar? We used yo have a lot of fun here ...not so much tonite..
This place was a lot of fun with interactive piano playing and interactive audience. There were several large groups there for bachelor and bachelorette parties and the place was very crowded with no one wearing masks. I felt okay being there since I chose to get vaccinated. I would definitely visit this establishment again.
Weve been here a few times. Musicians are always very good and talented, no complaint there. The place had good specials for drinks in the past. Now not so much. Normal drinks are $12, so the crowd is sitting sober watching the band and no one is dancing half of the night. The place used to be packed at 8 and the dancefloor was crowded with people.
A little rowdy. Witnessed a couple of fights. It was St Patrick weekend so shouldve expected it.
Partner and I stopped by for St. Patrick’s day. We requested In The End by Linkin Park to be performed by the dueling pianist and it was amazing! Great staff, great drinks and general customer service!
Was yelled at by the bartender for not tipping enough, though I had tipped over $100 to various employees. They told me they dont work for free. Also, its not as much a piano bar anymore as a bar with a live band. Plenty of other bars with respectful staff on the RW
Absolutely amazing place to wind down after a long day. The band is amazing and totally rocks. Definitely a great place to visit for drinks and great music.
I love this place and have been here many times. Its so much fun! Ive had a birthday and Christmas party here. The musicians here are talented, entertaining and put on a great show. They always have drink specials going on. Its spacious, right off the riverwalk, has great outdoor seating, nice bathroom service, and never boring! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
We love this bar! We were just there this past weekend! We come to the riverwalk every year for a weekend and this is our go to bar on Saturday night! The staff is super friendly and very attentive and when you order a drink you are not waiting around forever, they get it to you quick. The musicians and singers are so upbeat and make sure everyone has a good time. We always recommend this place to all our friends. Cant wait till we come back!
My fiance and I came here on a Saturday and it was PACKED! $5 each to get in. We had a great time and everyone else in the place looked like they were having a great time aswell. Very happy atmosphere 👍Oh and the band was great! and the music they played was fun!
If I could leave negative stars I would. The staff is rude, the environment is trash. Don’t waste your money go somewhere worth the cover fee! Absolutely horrible. Came for a bachelorette party and will never return and would never recommend. Waste of money, it’s embarrassing.
This place is AWESOME! Went on a Saturday night after a concert and it was a fun atmosphere, great music and cocktails. I definitely want to go again next time I’m in town.
Ive been to several Howls before and had a great experience. (Dueling Pianos are usually great.) When we got to the bar, we thought it was Karaoke night, the singers were so poor. Much to our surprise, when we got upstairs, we found out the singers were our evenings entertainment. The entertainers were poor quality, unnecessarily raunchy (and I am no prude), and failed miserably to get the crowd involved. There are so many choices for music (and ive heard them played at other Howls), yet they played non-engaging music. We do not recommend and my party will not be returning.
A group of girl friends and I came to San Antonio just to come to Howl at the Moon and I was not disappointed. We arrived a little early to get our seats & loved that we were against the dance floor. The music was fantastic almost all night & we stayed dancing. Our waiter Eric was absolutely amazing. We were never without drinks & gave great advice on drink selection. I will most definitely be back!
Was very disappointed with the bartender service, drink price and extra charges placed on my credit card. The extra charges did go away and the manager was quick in responding and answered my questions. The 32 oz bucket was roughly $25 and specialty shots were about $10 each, I do not have the exact price on receipt. If youd like a sweet drink to enjoy a bucket is good, it did not seem to have high alcohol content. The pianist was great, did not seem to play a lot of rock music though.
The vibe of the place was good. Depending on the night you go they have different genres and themes. Its a decent size place to dance. The bathroom situation for the girls restroom was fairly decent enough stalls to accommodate a busy night. It is equipped with two bars however I felt the service was a little slow, for the night that or they were under staffed. Either way a place to definitely consider in downtown San Antonio.
Ok. So, this use to be one of my favorite places both the Houston and San Antonio locations. The music was bad and even a staff member was so rude! We put our drinks down at a table. He motioned us to get away from the table as if we were kids. So, much for date night! I will never go there again!!
Horrible service, aren’t allowed to put tables together. We asked to cover our friends first drinks on our tab and the waitress says no they need to pay for their own drinks. Like who do you think they are to tell us we can’t cover our friends drinks. Rude from the moment we stepped foot in their establishment. Wouldn’t recommend.
If you have to check something valuable like a pocket knife your mom gave you for your 21st birthday, do not expect to get it back, and do not expect them to show any courtesy or consideration that they gave it to the wrong person even though you had a claim check with your number on it for your personal item that they apparently did not ask for it when they gave your favorite knife away. The worst part is there a callousness and lack of consideration when they screwed up. It was an “oh well, we don’t have it” kind of attitude. Incredibly rude and incredibly inconsiderate.
I have been to this bar several times for different occasions. I was looking for somewhere to have a Halloween/Birthday party and this seemed like the perfect place!! To top it all off, at a previous time I had gone, I won a VIP party, so I and all my guests had gotten free cover the night of my party! I got a table for us, right next to the stage, which I got at half price. They brought us up to the bar in the elevator and really tended to our needs the entire night. I had a ton of friends show up and everyone was really taken care of. I will definitely be returning, and I have to say that everyone at my party had the absolute best time. They even had a costume contest at midnight with cash prizes, and my friend won second place!! Best bar experience!! Would highly recommend this bar to anyone!! Fun for all!
The music is great but the request fulfillment is horrible. I fill they take money when a request that is about $20+ for a song can not be fulfilled. Bringing family is not where we will be in the future.
We have been to Howl at the Moon since 1996 ever year if not twice a year. We drive from DFW to enjoy our favorite bar. NO MORE. They have turned our favorite piano bar into a retro dance bar. We are so disappointed. And yes we voiced our frustration (15 of us) and the disrespectful young lady at the front door let me know that’s what a piano bar is and have a good night. She was the so disrespectful. And by the way San Antonio we won’t be back. We were here in August and treated with so much respect and gratitude. And now that more people are coming back you screw the ones that tried to keep your wonderful city alive. We will, and anyone I talk to, spend our hard earned money in other cities in Texas. Until this weekend San Antonio was our favorite vacation spot. No more please contact me at anytime if you have any questions
This place is pretty awesome. Ive gone quite a few times and they always seem to have live entertainment. There usually is a cover charge, $5-$10 depending. The drinks are bomb. They have special mixed drinks that can come in 12oz, 32oz and 60oz if I remember correctly. Definitely give this place a chance if you have the opportunity! 👍😁
