This place was great. Its kind of tucked away, but worth the drive. I have been looking for an authentic Puerto Rican restaurant for a while and glad I could finally find one. The hours that you see here could change though not sure how often that happens. I had tried to make arrangements to come here a few times with my friends before finally being able to stop in on a Tuesday night. The downside? Parking & parking lot is overall not good, needs to be maintained and or paved. But food? Excellent 🫶🏼💯
The pernil (roasted pork) was good, and the arroz con gandules with yellow rice. The fried pork was kinda dry. The horchatas were really good, and the empanadillas. The mofongo was ok, it was our first time trying it, will probably give the leftovers to the pets... But the desserts were really good, the flan and Nutella empanadilla.Street parking was easy, and the ladies room was clean and well stocked.
Local place with lots of well locals. Always a good sign when going to a resturant. Not many Puerto Rican resturants in Detroit. Don Luis Mich Ave gone but awesome. Store front church on Michigan Ave gone but awesome. Ordered postelitios/empanadas with ground beef and cheese. Also arozz con gondules/rice pigeon peas. Got home and first bite of rice and postelitios was dry. They had some sort of dipping sauce on the side. Did not help much just dried out meat and rice. Nice people great atmosphere but the food needs work.
Comida en la madre! I reviewed this place some years back and was not impressed. We recently went back to give it another shot WOW food was amazing and the place smelled clean. Keep up the good work. We tried several different food items and everything was delicious. We will certainly go back!
The food was great. Great flavors in the dishes we ordered. Good prices. The place is a hole in the wall. Atmosphere was super chill. Needs better lighting and maybe a window. Above all amazing food.
The food was amazing!! Theyve updated the chairs since Ive last been there, and they are horribly uncomfortable. The bathroom lock on the stall doors needs to be fixed.
Although they didnt have adequate parking, hot sauce, or the drink that I wanted, or soap, or toilet paper in the bathroom. This place still deserves a four star rating. I went for the food and was not disappointed. Surprised in fact. The food was so delicious and flavorful it made up for what they didnt have. I will definitely be back.
I ordered Pernil and I asked the guy when I got that it tasted and looked old he said its fresh and I threw up 15 mins later in bathroom. I told him and he didnt even blink or care and charged me still.
My 1st time there, I was greeted with a smile almost immediately, The lady (bartend/waitress) was very nice, & was patient while I figured out the menu. Also very helpful to answer questions I had. Very nice experience. I recommend this lovely place to anyone that wants to stop by for a few drinks. Or, just for a nice dinner... Great job, Rincon Tropical!!🍹
Great pet shop, super chill staff, and everything is reasonably priced
Small hole in the wall place but food is outstanding, along with the friendly service. My second tube and both trips have been absolutely phenomenal. I hate places like this because theres literally 30 things on the menu that you will want to try. If you go once you will definitely be going again to try something else.
My wife and I really enjoyed the food! She missed the authentic cuisine from where she used to live. She loved this place and wants to come back!
Comfortable and clean. The door doesnt work for handicap and at times the elevator is down.
Food is 10000/10000 !!!! Amazing every time I get it!!! Love love love rincon tropical. Authentic Puerto Rican food!! Just never is open so I can’t get food :(
Food was delish!! Service was top notch! The place could use some updating, but it wont stop me from coming back again.
This is a very nice place.Food was excelente, love the Pollo Campero and The Sopa de Res.Service was fast considering the amount of customers it gets. Very very friendly staff and smiles for everyone.Place was very clean and seating area as spacious and countable but not a big restaurant.Large parking in the back and also street parking
Is sad when we have Puerto Rican restaurants but the food is not good when puertorican food is really good I had rice with pernil and my friends and it was cold n dry like it was a left over plate. No flavor . I had friends tell me puertorican food is no good so I proof them wrong I went n bought what I needed n cooked rice w gandules n made a pernil n potatoe salad n they loved it. I bought monfongo from here too n it was good. They just need to work on their food with seasoning n not burnt the meat or overcooking , I just hate that people buy puertorican food in some restaurants n think that’s how our food really is , you just have to be dedicated to cooking n love doing it to work as a chef making puertorican food n you will have so much customers n please don’t serve pork that’s old you could get sued , I’m still going to give this place another chance in about a week n see how the food taste but if is still the same way I probably won’t ever come back.
I was here at this restaurant 5yrs ago but didnt return bc the food wasnt that great but Im very sadden to say that its not good at all now. And I say this as constructive criticism bc I always want mi gente to do well. We came in and the place looked so dark and it didnt feel clean at all. I ordered few dishes. The Carne Guisada was extremely dry tasting. The Chuletas de Cerdo estaba ok it only came with one chop for a dinner portion. The Mofongo was very good, I truly enjoyed that. My Canoa de Carne didnt look appealing at all so I didnt eat. The alcapurrias looked very greasy and overcooked so once again I didnt eat them. What I was really disappointed with was the Mollejitas y Guineitos side dish. It literally looked gray color weigh no flavor at all, the bananas were so mushy and overcooked. No color, no vinegar nothing. Just tasted like boiled vegetables. My empanadillas de Carne was another issue, the meat had no flavor at all!! And when they were fried they were not sealed correctly so it cooked the insure with the meat. I say this to say, Puerto Rican food has so much flavor, color, peppers, olives, so many ingredients and this place is just doing the bare minimum to make Our food but MI gente, you know YOUR food could be so much better! And the cleanliness in the bathroom is an issue. The young lady at the Bar was extremely professional and very friendly. Her service was optimum!
I was at the bar upstairs a few Fridays ago. It was a nice small bar not too many ppl. The DJ played a really good mix of all the current hits. From banda to reggaeton and bachata. I would take my friends but they charge $20 and this isn’t a place I would pay $20 for.
Excellent place to meet new friends and dance all night.
This place fell off over the last few years. Asty time has better food and cheaper. This place doesnt give enough meat. They serve you kids portions for almost $20 meal. Asty time was closed on Monday so I decided to come here instead and it was a huge mistake. I rarely leave reviews, but Rincon Tropical is doing its customers a disservice. They suck!
Great food! Love it! However don’t pay over the phone because they tipped them selves 20$ on my husband’s card after he picked his order up. I love there food! Always great just very unhappy and disappointed that they did that to my husband.
They need to step it up. My daughter and I ordered tostones and carne frita the tostones were burned, its sad because this is one of the few carribean food restaurants here in Detroit and if the customer that comes for the first time to enjoy a Puertorican meal will be very disappointed. First of all its not authentic Puerto Rican food, and it seems like they dont take pride in cooking my food to really give people a taste of my ISLANDS delicious food!!!
Been craving mofongo, ever since I left Puerto Rico this past August, for my birthday, I guarantee you you won’t be disappointed!
It is a shell of what it once was. Service was terrible. We received our drinks after 25 minutes. We received our appetizers 75 minutes after we arrived. There were only three tables with people at them. I am Puerto Rican. 🇵🇷 we go to PR restaurants not only because we love the food but to support our people and culture. I think this place in a span of four years has forgotten that. I also think that being the only PR restaurant in the area has caused them to lose what made everyone love them four years ago. Its sad.
Great food, friendly. The wait can be long but its fresh and worth it. Fair price and good portions. Never had any thing bad here.seem owners since I wrote this butbdame great food a few more options still good. still not fast food but good home cooking
Im Puerto Rican and moved from Philly to Detroit.. honestly was hurt that there wasnt any Puerto Rican food until I found this spot..just like my grandmas cooking..well not exactly but close enough..lol..I love the food
The Best food in Michigan, if you want real Puerto Rican Food. The staff is great and price is reasonable with huge portions. Love this place!!!
I live a half a block down the street you can see the bar from my porch every weekend they are out there arguing fighting and shooting it just happened tonight three different guns one including an automatic weapon not to mention my grandma lives directly across the street from me and shes part of the neighborhood watch. She complains about this place frequently...
If youre looking for authentic puertorrican food, take it from a puertorrican, this place is great. We make the trip when possible because it tastes like food from back home.
Hard to find the place, kinda hidden by a mechanic shop but go and eat here, they have seating available plus a bar. Food was delicious, flavorful and hearty, decent portions, arroz con gandules was a go-to item for me, pork meat was wow, pork chops were moist. Ill be going back very soon.
The service was great and the lady was very nice as well as attentive with us. But I am Puerto Rican and I’m sorry none of that food tasted like a Puerto Rican made it. No alcapuria is shaped like a pastelillo 😒. The beans tasted like Dominican beans🤢 which is not what I came for, no offense. Let a REAL Boricua run the kitchen please. It’s false advertising as well as the music they played. Nothing gave me Puerto Rican’s vibes. A lot of mosquitos 🦟 while eating.
The experience was just lovely. The music, the atmosphere was positive. Felt like home. Food was absolutely delicious. I wish I lived closer. 1 hour drive is definitely worth it. Ill be back soon and recommend this place to everyone.
This was my first time eating at this restaurant and the over experience was poor! I ordered the pernil with rice and beans. The rice and beans was tastie. However, the roasted pork meat was half grease. I told the waitress about it and said nothing! In fact the waitress never checked on us at all till we finished our meal. The sanitation in the kitchen was lacking and needed attention! The overall conditions of the restaurant was fair at best! They were out of several items as well. My first visit and my last visit!
We loved it! Be sure to try the beef empanadas. The roasted pork was excellent and tender. The Chicken Fricassee was delicious also! I would definitely recommend and will be returning for more.
Great place. The food was amazing. Very authentic Puerto Rican food. The music was excellent as well. Perfect for dancing. My only complaint is they need a bigger beer and drink menu. Other then that its a gem
All good.
Food was ok at best, service was TERRIBLE!! Empanadias were empty and bland!! Never again!! Waited over an hour for sandwich. People came, ate, and went as we still waited. The restaurant was not clean at all, had about a million flies flying around, I can only imagine what the kitchen looked like!! So gross!! P.S bleach, a rag and windex goes a long way!! TERRIBLE!! Dont waste your time or money, Detroit has MUCH better eateries!!
I love their food! Its Rican/Dominican food and its delicious! Very clean, reasonable priced and portioned food. They cater and it is excellent! The nightclub is off the chain. This is not a suburban spot. Its just not....and quite frankly thats what I love about it! Its authentic Carribean food with an authentic crowd and authentic flair that will always have my business! La comida es para chupar los dedos!
Absolutely awful! The fish is not fresh. They give you a mini Red snapper for $21.99 and it taste sooo fishy and spoiled! I decided to try this restaurant because I have not been able to find a Puerto Rican yesterday in Detroit. This is NOT authentic.. Its nothing like Puerto Rico! The Talipia was also spoiled. it was just so bad! The shrimp empanada had one small shrimp in it, so it was basically empty, so its just fried dough. SAVE YOUR MONEY. most hole in the wall places have good food but not this place.
The restaurant is in a rough part of town, next to an oil change place. The inside is very rustic. You go here for the food and not the place. The menu has everything that is offered in the island, but the food is better in Puerto Rico. However, you keep coming back because this is one of the few places you can get it in Michigan.
Extremely crowded upstairs .. bar is small. Limited liquor choices. Drink prices are high. Barely any room to dance.
Food was good. Good portions.
Rubber band was found in my dish thank God it wasnt swallowed while I was eating. When I let the waitress know she took it to the back, then came back and was like Im sorry it came off the cilantro . There were only 4 leaves of cilantro in the dish, so im still confused on how a rubber band got in. Customer service was terrible no manager nor the waitress tried to fix the situation .We still had to pay full price. Health dept. May need to inspect that kitchen but no one sees. NEVER AGAIN check your meals
Food was ok. Had bbq ribs. Meat was dried out and was likely prepared days in advance. Tried trifongo for the first time. It was good. My problem was that were flies EVERY where. We could not enjoy our meal. If it was that many flies in the dining area, I can only imagine what was happening in the kitchen.
Most horrible experience ever!! 63 dollars for a dollar store pan of white rice that was under cooked and cold. Not to mention there was a long strand of curly black hair in the middle. I have straight blond hair. I sincerely hope that they reconsider not only their food prices but the quality of service and health habits.
Great food! Sorry no pics to post 😞 I just have an empty container lol. We had the rice with roasted pork. OMG 😲 so freaking good!
If u have a big family u dont want to go food is expensive
Mouth watering. Flavorful. Best Puerto Rican food Ive had! Great place to go during the week when theres a family feel. We got the deep fried pork chunks. Need I say more? And the Mofongo was full of multiple layers of flavor! We also got deep fried plantain cups filled with pork a and cheddar cheese. Yes! Thats a thing! And its delicious! My friend and I came here, but well be back next time with more people!
I order closed to 60 dolllars worth of food for the family & this is what I experienced.. The relleno de papa was good but they fried it in the oil they fried fish so it had the taste of fried fish in it.. The bistec encebollado was ok they didnt seasoned it so i had to tweek it myself at home & it was a lil tough to chew. the mofongo was good with the shrimp and the baked chicken it was ok as well. & the pork chops taste like fish as well but was ok..only advice that i got is dont fried the chicken or steak or any type of meat where you fried fish.. Will i go there again.. Probably not Ill rather cook at home but since its the weekend i wanted to invited the family out for a change.
Well the food smells good but its not the greatest. It wasnt terrible. But definitely disappointed. I might try them again. Sometimes its just one bad experience, but that doesnt mean its all bad.
If you think this is good Puerto Rican food, your mom never hit you with a chancleta before. There has only been one other experience that fairs worse than this ‘restaurant’.Additionally, as a former secret shopper for in house restaurant reviews, there are so many reasons to avoid this place:‘Fresh’ juice = powered mix & waterA microwaved appetizer advertised as serving 4-8 people consisted of 1-2 pieces of carne frita, tostones, Sorullitos, and something that can only be described as floury, pasty, mushy, fried ball of potato and cheese.2 beef and 2 chicken pastellios were tasteless and also microwaved.40 minutes and $45 for fried appetizers to-go, they forgot the maduro and another 10 minutes to get reimbursed bc patients had run out.Beyond disappointedSave your money
They charge 10 dollars to walk into the place and other 30 dollars if you want to sit down in there even if you purchase something you still gotta pay to have a seat in there but standing up is free. Next they will be charging people to use the restroom. This place is a big rip off
The food here is awesome, from the moment you hit the front door the aroma will bring memories of being in Abuelas kitchen! So happy to finally have a place that represents what real Puerto Rican food should taste like. Keep up the good work!
Excellent authentic puerto rican food here. Nice family atmosphere
The best Puerto Rican food in Detroit! I have been coming for years when it was just a little spot around the corner. I told the owner when I first walked in that he would be in a much bigger place. Now he has a spacious restuarant, bar and night club. So happy for you ❤🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷
Fine place. Clean and friendly. The food was excellent. I wish they clean the back and side of the building to make it more attractive. Remember that the first impression is the outside of your business.
I went there this week I bought 4 empanadas 4 acapurias 1 pulpo empanada 4 relleno de papás and 1container of pulpo salad and it was all nasty The empanadas were dry and it didnt have no taste the acapurias where burned the relleno de papás need more seasoning and the pulpo salad wasnt too my liking 😒 I only went there just to see what kind of foods they have but it doesnt taste nothing or look like nothing like Puerto Rico and Im puerto rican full blooded Im what it Im making my own self With better taste also Not going there no more it even make me sick to my stomach sorry I couldnt take pics because I have through all to trash but taking a bite from each one made me feel sick to my stomach
This week is Southwest Detroit Restaurant Week and we love Southwest Detroit. This particular restaurant, is down the block from my barbershop and right next to this restaurant they were working on cars! I at first was like WTH? Strip club is right across the street and a liquor store on the corner. Don’t be alarmed though. The food was very good and the prices weren’t that bad. I learned a long time ago - never judge a book by the cover. It’s location is kind of Latino hood-ish, but the food is well worth it and the servers were very courteous. The music was great as well.
Rick our waiter was amazing! The food is very tasty. As my daughter describes this place. I quote when I come here I feel like homeThanks everyone!
OMG, I Have not had authentic Putero Rican food like this since I moved from Miami. I only wish they had a location closer to the westside. It was worth the drive..will be back soon.
The food might be good but the parking lot was dirty. Their front step had garbage strewn on the step. We overlooked the parking but this made our decision to not go in.
I love this place. Their prices are good and the food is awesome. Tou get great portion size. The staff is always so nice. The Rellenos are one of the best kept secrets!
I absolutely love this place! The food is so good, and worth every penny. The service is slow, but definitely worth the wait. Regardless, Rincon Tropical deserves 5 stars!!!
Great food, relaxed place, treated us like family. Ricky and his staff were just wonderful. Great steak
Well the service was fine and the food for the most part was good but the jibaritos left something to be desired (Wheres the meat & the flavor?) Which is why I give this place a generous 3 stars...
Absolutely lovely experience, wanted to try this restaurant, came with my family to celebrate my birthday, staff was extremely patient and friendly, thanks for the great hospitality 💜💜
As far as I know. This is the only Puerto Rican style restaurant in all of metro Detroit. Also, the food is amazing and authentic. Ive been there twice, many more visits to come.
We went there to eat the food came to our table black as coal my husband is puerto rican and i ask him is this the way it cooked you can guess what he said and we could not eat all the food there cuz the flys inside we both had broken plates we had to ask for a plate for our 7yr old like if he was not there so i well want to say is that we never eat there again!!
Great service, kind and very friendly.
Great food! Slightly pricey but the best(possibly only) authentic Puerto Rican cuisine around! The Mofongo is delicious!
Meh, if you want good Puerto Rican food. Get on the freeway and head to Chicago or Ohio. REALLY wanted to like this place. It’s a shame that you have to go out of state for some decent food.
Ambiance is not for all but I felt right at home. Food is great and couldnt ask for anything better. Just like being on the island, excellent comfort food. I will definatley be back!!!
Love this place! Good was very authentic and the atmosphere very nice. Bistec encebollado riquísimo! The girls are so nice and attentive. I will go again whenever I visit Detroit!
Hiden gem. Always a great time.House DJ is amazing and the owner provides top notch service.Always a great time.
The vibe was nice and chill downstairs but when we got upstairs thats when the wow factor kicked in!nice set up!it was live!the people who ran the place were pleasant and respectful.
Great food. Awesome waiter. Nice music. Cool environment! We loved it!
100% authentic Puerto Rican food. I love Papa Rellena and Arroz Con Gandules. Plus in the weekends, they have the greatest hits of Salsa, Bachata, Reggaetón and Merengue. A full bar of tropical drinks and the especially the Mojito. For what else you can ask to have fun on Fridays or Saturdays.......... 🤔 a dance partner!!!.😁😆
Great food! Everyone is friendly. And its not expensive. One of my favorite places!
I love this place! Food is amazingly delicious.
Great food great staff very pleased w the food and presentation. I would recommend
Place charged cover for only 10 people to be in there. Also the bartender either had no idea what I was talking about (red dye 40 allergy) or was just plain rude. Either way this place was horrible
Omg best Puerto Rican good Ive had. Waitress was friendly, prices good you get good portions for the money. Nice atmosphere.
Food really used to be good here but lately food been tasting poor hope it gets better soon i love eating here
They didnt have rice. The one person taking orders took her over a half hour to get us something to drink. Terrible service
Great food, truly authentic Puerto Rican food. Kind of pricey for where its located. Not a great neighborhood.
Food was amazing, traditional Puerto Rican food. Home made.
If you want some island food I recommend you this restaurant, they do have a small parking structure but the food is great. _puerto Rican and Dominican cuisine
Food is decent to good but they have a fly issue. I couldnt enjoy my food comfortably because I had to swat flies away from my food.
Great staff. Great owners. Great vibe. Family friendly with a beautiful night adult twist... Great food
Great staff great food first time and Im from philly loved and my wife also her first time eating Spanish food thanks again will be back
THE SERVICE WAS GOOD BUT MY DISH IT WAS SO SEASONED AND WHEN I ASKED FOR MY BILL THEY TOLD ME THAT I WAS 27 DLLS AND TODAY CHECKING MY BANK ACCOUNT THEY CHARGED 37 DLLS.
Best Puerto Rican restaurant I have been too. Friendly atmosphere and waitress. Good service.
The food is delicious , the plca foes needs more cleaning but the service is perfect and food is soooooo good 👌👌😋
Worst Puerto Rican place ever takes too long to cook and it takes 2 hours and people that are cooking are talking and laughing and one person is doing their job.
This food was beyond delicious, so glad they are back open!
The place was OK. but what struck me is their food and portioning. I felt like Im paying less than what I got. :-)
Nice to get other types of Latin food other than Mexican. Food was great and not at a bad price.
Love the food the service is not the best but nice place.
Food is good. Pero too long to service!!!!!Y no vendan churrascos Chicago Fajitas por (skirt stake) sad
Best Rican food we ever ate. 🔥 🔥
Friendly waitress, excellent service, and good food. Certain foods can use extra flavor.
Third time dinning at rincon tropical good food but you have to wait at least 2 hours to be served and again good food, i wish they would improve better service
EVERYTHING was amazing 👏🏻 🙌🏻My new favorite restaurant. 😍
Go to asty time its better quality food.these people put to much garlic powder in my mofongo and made it taste bad
The food was really good. I will return back there again.
It is a very bad food my fish is raw not flavor I do not recommend it at all
This place really bat just see the pictures food doesnt taste like Puerto Rican food
I guess the lack of variety has these people thinking this is good PR food.... No it’s not at all, by any measure. This place would not last a day in NY posing as authentic lmao
Always great fresh food and fast service. Super friendly staff!
Very nice and very delicious foods from Puerto Rico delicious foods
Best Puerto Rican food in town!!! Friendly service each time ♡
The food is so good I love this place their empanadas and rice is a must try
Clooooosed. Or....we couldnt tell they were open?

Great food great atmosphere. Delicious traditional Caribbean food
Best Puertorican food Ive ever had off the island!
Great place to visit in Detroit for some Puerto Rican food and latin music. Dance the night away.
Great Eats and staff
Best Caribbean food in South West Detroit and verry friendly respectfully with the customers .
Security guards don’t know how to do their jobs. Also aren’t badged. They are disrespectful and make false accusations.
Best typical Puerto Rican/Dominican food around.
Very good food, fast and friendly service
It was ok they were nice some what. Drinks were good.
It was fun at one time but what itreally needs alot of TLC.
Appearance inside is somewhat lacking. But food is excellent.
