I did not get any food while visiting this establishment, but I was loving the atmosphere. The staff was friendly and everyone in attendance was just there to have a good time. No drama, no crazy arguments, or dangerously drunk people ruining it for others. I would certainly recommend this location for the vibes and wonderful Pride Community.The karaoke was also a wonderful touch. Very much enjoyed my evening.

I love JRS! Sterling is one of the most modest and caring person there. He checked on me consistently to make sure I was okay. Gave great customer service. Definitely would recommend anyone to get a drink from him. Thank you guys for hiring the best bartenders at JRs.

Its too dark cant see the hot guys and cant watch the Astros. But the Margarits rock and our bartender Enrique was awesome

This is my go to bar in Houston for drinks and always have a good time. The prices, the bartenders, the atmosphere, I really cannot complain. We have been going to this bar for quite sometime but we have our go to bartender, Matthew, that is a MUST that we order from. He always makes us laugh and makes sure we are having a good time anytime we come! We will definitely keep returning!

This has been a go-to spot for me and my friends for years now. I love JRs! the drinks are affordable, well made and the music is a vibe. Karaoke is always fun too!

Been coming here for over 10 years. The bar used to be more well managed before the pandemic, as soon as we were able to go back into bars I jumped out of my comfy couch and got back to JRs to support my local businesses and entertainers. Based on how dirty and grimy it’s gotten lately it seems as if management has let it go downhill. It never used to smell now I smell the dirty bathrooms in the karaoke bar and the back bar, the only place that it might not smell is the first bar. There used to not be napkins all over the bar floor now it’s inevitable to walk anywhere and see napkins all over the floors. This bar used to be my starting bar to bar hop and my restroom break bar because the restrooms were always nicely kept, now that is long gone, like I said they always smell and the soaps are never filled up. On a positive note drinks are reasonably priced compared to other bars but it makes me wonder if my cup is properly clean.Even on its busiest weekend (Halloween weekend) the bar was never that dirty and grimy.

JRs is a really great place to hang out and chill, whether to start the evening, end the evening, or spend the whole evening. Theres different spaces and multiple bars within the establishment each with its own vibe. Matt is my favorite bartender. Hes personable and pours a good drink. The back bar and the patio are both really chill areas to hang out and the karaoke bar is soo much fun. Bathroom stalls, however, could use some TLC.

Not bad for occasional visit. The patio was nicely done. Service was just meh. I dont know what is on the Grill. They dont serve food.

Matt Murphy is one of the best bartenders there in Saturday nights. Always has a friendly attitude! He is one of the main reasons I keep going back to Jrs

Service time, horrific. On a Friday afternoon/evening, at 3:00 pm, both of the 2 bartenders, busy enough to talk to other guests, but not enough time to serve other guests. Waited 10 min at bar to get served. Both bartenders seemed to be busy enough for friends but not enough for customers.Trash service when it comes to day time serving.

Great hangout spot in Montrose where you can chill and have good conversation without all the overly loud music and smoke (though the karaoke area can kinda serve that purpose, and SoBe is just next door). Amazing service, special shoutouts to Matt and Sterling for being goated bartenders! Altogether my favorite place in Houston to hang

JR’s is my place to come after a long work day. Brian is such a sweetheart. I love how he always remembers my drink order. My friends really enjoy the SKKY special on Tuesday . I wish he was always here. Definitely check out JRs for a cute and tasty drink.

Been coming to this bar for a while now and lately it has been so difficult to get a drink. I understand when it can get busy and the bartenders can be overwhelmed with a crowd, but i won’t be able to get any service because the bartender would be occupied on their phone. So happy that there is more than one bar. Went to the back bar and was immediately greeted by Matthew. My friends and I were able to have a drink in hand and great service. Will be coming back with more friends as long as Matthew is there to serve us.

Good drinks !’ Recommended the cucumber tequila agave drink . Roasted corn was good too !

I absolutely love this place but last night I went and encountered a bartender a short Hispanic male that had tattoos that caused a whole scene in the bar that was not necessary . I didn’t have any drinks at all and was acting accordingly he made it weird trying to force me to drink water then he threw my drink out and proceeded to yell at me about being over served when I had be been there for 10 minutes. This truly made me uncomfortable to where I had to leave . This left a bad taste in my mouth about this place .

I havent been back to JRS in so long! Brings back old memories. Decided to come check it out last minute with my spouse & another couple for fun. Took a long time to get our drink ordered. Had a great time watching people go up and sing their favorite songs.

Bartender Christina should be fired. She was quite honestly the worst bartender I’ve ever come across. Not only was she extremely slow, she was rude. Sat patiently at the bar waiting for her to take my order. Watched her and her friends take two rounds of shots, made her friend a drink, got them water bottles everything with a PACKED BAR in front of her. She would take one order then go back to them. Every time someone complained she yelled there’s other bartenders. Do your job first, entertain your friends later. If bartending is too overwhelming, pick something else 🙃

I just showed up and asked for an old fashion. The bar tender said they do not serve that, I then asked what whiskey they had available, and the bartender informed me that he could not serve me. I only had one drink here. He threatened to call security when I complained.

Great patio bar to start the night with. Brian, one of the bar tenders, really went out of his way to make sure I had a positive experience with some killer drink specials.

This is a community staple bar that is so dependable that you can move away for a decade and return to find it here and popular. The bar has had growing pains over the years, but through it all they keep it together and always have a cute bartender to make a pour to brighten your day.

One of the bartenders is so RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL. Me and my brother and a friend were waiting to get served at the bar, as we were waiting he was having a full blown conversation with two other guys and the bartender didn’t even acknowledge that we were standing there, it seems like he don’t have no life and using his time at the bar to vent to customers when he should be serving drinks and move along to the next customers, it was no reason he should be venting and taking out his cell phone to show pictures to customers when you have line of people. I waited for 3 min after he got done making drinks he still was going on and on with the guys and I just politely said, excuse me I like to order a drink and boom he just went off and got the cops and they told us to leave. He came from behind the bar and got in me and my brother face and called us out our names, he was saying all kinds of rude stuff to us. He was a white guy with dark hair, and his bar is located by the side door close the patio in the inside. Don’t go here it’s a rude establishment!!!! I hate to say, but it was giving racist vibes the White cops were on his side and everything we told them they didn’t believe, they were on his side.

First time going,I had a great time. This is definently a place Ill visit when Im in town again. Karaoke night was awesome!!!!

10 years coming here and never experienced anything like this.. the security guy at the back with bigger built straight up confessed that they are friends with someone whom me an my friend (who never comes out) had altercation with. The person tried to intimidate us for stepping on their friends foot and after we apologized they couldn’t take it and followed us through the bar to make us uncomfortable and make comments as if they were going to physically assault us. We reached out to security and the man told us he knew them so he asked us to leave, we were the ones being harassed and threatened but he didnt care about that, we werent even drinking and his friends he was defending were wasted. I have everything recorded and will move forward for hate crime…

The staff is nice. I suppose that one nice thing about this place is that you can take your mom there. She will worry about your gay social life much less. It is as straight-friendly a bar as one could ever find.If you choose to visit, stop by Macys for some cruise wear. The boat kind of cruise, not the gay kind. This isnt a place to meet bohemians or artists. Theres nothing wrong with that, but it isnt my style.

They got two guys a man the door to check IDs when you go to this bar. a short young looking black guy and overweight heavy set white guy that are extremely rude towards transgender and drag queens... Of course the ones that are not doing the show... 😂 The heavy said white guy told me I was banned from the bar but I havent been there in over 5 years cuz Ive been out of town for work I told him he was mistaking and to get the manager. The manager says I wasnt barred and he didnt know what the bouncer was talking about.... This was clearly discrimination towards a transgender person in the community. I usually have problems getting into this bar depending on who is at the front door checking IDs. The crazy part of body is they do drag shows and make money off us transgender and drag queens but when you show up to be a customer the door people treat you very rude. As far as the bartenders they have always been very nice and professional and friendly.... So thats kind of strange. The bar is beautiful with the outside New Orleans look and the drinks are reasonable and you cant have a good time there you just have to get through the front security first. They need to hire some better door people because Ive seen a lot of people walk away because of that short young black kid and that heavy set older guy.

Bartenders stop serving if they do not like your tip given.

It was my first time going and I was enjoying the atmosphere until my friend tried to order a drink from the bar. We wanted to order a drink for my friend and I to split, which was the drink the people next to us had ordered. My friend couldn’t clearly hear the name of it when she asked the people next to us so she said a joke about ordering a “Bohemian Rhapsody” cuz it was funny but not to the short Hispanic male bartender with the tattoos and a bad attitude . He got all pissy and basically proceeded to not getting our drink by choice. When she told him “I want the drink they ordered” while pointing to it, he proceeded to say she was “harassing” him when he decided to talk to his friend instead of doing his job plus what man is harassed by a short woman? smh well he is a short man but still disrespectful . We will come back when this man is fired because honestly I liked the atmosphere of the bar just not him and his “I don’t wanna be here “ attitude cuz why would I beg someone to take my money when they don’t even wanna work for it. In the end my friend and I were motivated to go back to South Beach where we could order drinks with no psycho bartenders.

Laid back place. Super chill. Bartender is supernice. Not too cold inside, just the right temperature. Quick service.

I’ve been coming to this bar for years, love the environment and people that go there are very welcoming. Make sure you go to the bartender Matt, he’s super entertaining and can mix some of the best drinks I’ve ever had!!!

The staff looked me dead in the eyes when I asked if they found a set of keys for my friend and walked off. I had to wait in three lines to even attempt to get someone to help 😒Update the reply was the most dismissive thing i have ever read and I will not ever return

First time visiting. My bill was $34. I left a $6 tip and the bartender raised my total to $50!! Either he can’t count or is a big thief! (The total written was $40) Never going back to this place again horrible first impression. Pay with cash yall do not give them your credit card.

Called because I left my card at the bar and spoke to a rude lady named Robbie. I told her I left my card there Sunday and everyday there has been reoccurring charges for three days straight. Told her I think it was the bartender because they car charging a lot and sense I left it at the bar. She then took offense to it and said will hunny you lost the card. I said no I left it at the bar because I had to run a leave due to a issue so the bartender had it last. she called me a lier and would not give me any ones information above her for I can tell them the issue. I was not trying to go though the bar to get a refund because I disputed the transactions I just wanted to inform them they might have thief on there staff charging high tip amounts on my card.

The bartenders outside do terrible service. I waited for 30 minutes being respectful of the bartender to let them pick the clientele as I know a lot of good bartenders keep track of their line. My bartender was not good, he asked me for my drink order 3 times over the 30 minutes I was there and never got me the drinks. It seems important to note that he served everyone but me and the others who were POCs. Then he took my drinks away at the end.Anyways, terrible service.

My bar tender was amazing ..!.!!!! His service and just customer experience all around as great . I’m very appreciative to Matthew for pouring my drinks in such a timely matter and even engaging in a quick conversation. So it’s like he isn’t in a rush but moving fast..!!!

Love this bar but the bar tender angel makes me hate it. extremely rude and always has a bad attitude. always takes forever to take my order and doesnt listen to what im saying. always closes me out when i ask to open a tab and then pretend he thought i said to close it. on top of that he over charges me. charges me $8 when the other bar tender at the same bar as him charges me $4. will not return as long as he works here

The guy who attends on the outside bar, has a hat named Dickel, he is very rude!! Does not know how to attend customers. We over here trying to ask for water, and he’s over here saying to go somewhere else!! Like why? kicking us out because we asked for water?.... rude as hell. He need to get some customer service training because he really needs it.

I will never come here again!! They tip themselves so beware of your bill and keep your receipts!!! They had tip themselves 9.00 from a 16.00 tab. I tipped them 5.00 because I’m generous. Never again!!! Also their drinks were awful and their service sucked.

Bartenders are great. The ambiance is fun but calm. (In a good way). Only complaint.... is the taco truck they partnered up with. If you’re drunk she’ll charge you 3 times what the actual price is! And will get mad when you question it! I thought it was just me but I told 2 other ppl on different occasions and they both told me she did that to them!!! Just watch her! I’m all for supporting small businesses but not if they’re going to be shady.

Jrs is always a great time! I love seeing Kofi and some of the other drag shows!! However there is a door person I believe Destiny who appears very racist against other blacks and is very rude at times! I do not like that aspect of Jrs.

The manager is so rude! I had friends who performed a drag show and he blatantly disrespected all of them! I have never heard of such juvenile behavior from a manager. This manager needs to be fired! I hope y’all read this comment before going to this establishment. How do you pay folks to come perform and then drown their music out? The way you treat performers is also the way you treat costumers. Consider yourselves warned. I will never darken the doorstep of this bar as long as he is the manager. Believe that!

The bartenders outside tried very hard not to take our order. They kept taking everyone elses order walking up, its very important to mention that the bar was very empty and we were the only POC at the bar. It was so obvious they were bothered by us. They tried so hard not to look in out direction and started stocking after they were done with the white people orders. I have never claimed colorism but it was so blatant i cannot call it anything else. If you own the establishment and have cameras, this was 06/18/22 at about 12:30 or 1am.

Such a great vibe always decorated through out the season respect staff fun karaoke great drink prices “Murph” the bartender is the best quick fast and funny while making the drinks.

A bar for everyone! I was waiting on a date, and my bartender asked if I wanted to create a safe word in case I needed help. WOW! I have never had a bartender show so much love and consideration before. GREAT PATIO with fans and shade, too! Plus great entertainment (dancers, drag shows, karaoke). I always have a great time here!

Do not use your cards here!!!! I am not even from the area and I am being charged when I’m not even there!!! This is the 2nd time this has happened, it has to be one of the bartenders. Some of the bartenders hold your card until you close your tab, others give it right back to you. So if one of them says they are going to hold on to your card, ask for another bartender!

I am from Las Vegas and was looking to go somewhere that I could have a dr I nk and unwind. I stu.bled upon this place and was fine. Got to the back and they were doing karaoke. The Hispanic drag queen was so so rude to us that we were totally taken by surprise. I requested a song the Hispanic mc (on microphone) told me to tip. I obliged with 3 dollars. I came back a hour and a half later to see my position and the mc got irate. Asking me do I want my 3 dollars back, (tell I ng people on the microphone) that I was racist. Then proceeded to roll their eyes the whole time I performed my song. Snatched the mic from me. No listen, this person is beyond rude. Not only to me but other people that werentLatino. .I dont know if they were try I ng to start some type of discrepancy but please watch this person. The way the speak to people and the rudeness is not funny at all. Totally lied and embarrassed our party with the whole spectacle of maccusing me of being racist because I asked what my position was. That was a horrible horrible experience.

Was at the bar buying a round of drinks for friends. I turn around and 2 of my friends were getting escorted out by security. When I walked outside to find out what happened I was told I could not re-enter. I had no idea what happened and I felt so discriminated against. When I asked the manager what happened he would not explain to me the reason but told me to ask my friends. I had nothing to do with the issue but was not allowed to re-enter which was totally unfair. I have been coming here for years but they have lost a true customer. If I could give my experience there last night zero stars I would. Will definitely NOT be recommending this establishment to any of my friends anymore.

You guys actually upgraded the sound system on the patio. It sounds so so so much better and is handling bass so much better ❤️

We arrived for our friend’s birthday and they require you to wear a mask to walk across the threshold but not a single person in a mask inside. But we had to wear one to cross the doorway? They said the owner requires it. Well the owner isn’t getting my money. We can’t give our money to people like this and expect sense to come back. So no thanks. Lost a customer forever.

The atmosphere is great, I dont drink so i just decided to get a frozen margarita so he charge $5 dollars and i decided to give $5 dollars of tips, I just saw my bank account and he decided to charge a tip of $20 dollars and $ 5 of the drink, yall need to be careful giving tips out of your card and the bartender service is not even that great. I would like to talk with a supervisor or a owner.

For all of the ups this bar has there are many downs. I’ve been here many of times and have became friends with those who work there, so this has nothing to do with those who work there. Bartenders are wonderful. Management, they have lost my card and stalked me to me car. I literally had a drunk manager (Darren) yelling in my face and yelling at many others in the face and not letting anyone out the door unless he was ordering uber for them on there phones. He was so wasted he is just snatching phones like it’s his belongings. Darren pretended we ran over his toe(after two drinks) so we would call an uber.. I told him I was about to call the cops on his belligerent self so I could go home.

Lovely place. The dancer was a total sweetheart. Was I too obliterated to converse or do anything, really? Yes. The multiple bartops throughout several rooms of the place, plus the outdoor bar/patio, is kinda neat. Remarkably clean; even the bathrooms.

Bartenders are rude. Heavy set white make with glasses is rude and needs better communication/management skills I will not be returning here and will not recommend to anyone of color

I no longer drive, and as a good Army gurl, carry my backpack everywhere, even to JRs twice, twice last month because I loved the Bloody Mary and the bartenders. Color me flabbergasted when I was coldly turned away from the door today due to their strict no backpacks policy. Maybe they instituted this policy since my last visit, and I have no problem with establishments policies, as long as they are consistent. But, it felt wrong.I hope Mr. Security is never be made feel that way No biggie, Crockers around the corner was happy to take me, backpack, my 60% tip and all.

Definitely a good place for a group esp if you want some patio time. Karaoke on Sundays which is always a plus. Havent experienced personally a super dancy night here though I have heard it happens.

A good spot to meet up with friends before starting your real party on the strip. They have the occasional great drink special.The vibe is overall chill compared to the other bars in the area.

Bar service is on point. Fyi gay bar. The atmosphere is pretty cool, and fun.

Cute space, but think its ridiculous that the narcissistic karaoke hosts think patrons come here to hear them perform a dozen songs rather than let customers participate. Felt like the other participants were filler between their egocentric numbers rather than allowing guests a chance to have fun singing.

Would never recommend going here. JRs is one of the worst bars in Montrose. Rude bartenders who disrespect customers and management who doesn’t know how to run a bar.

PACKED. Taking off a star because they said it’s a grill, but no one was eating and the only food I saw was pizza. Great karaoke venue tho. Super cool stage area, complete with Covid safe screens. Will be going again.

Caters to one audience depending on the night. Waited to sing Karaoke while others sang two to three times. Coffee knew what she was doing. I can change my songs to fit the crowd but be honest and let me know.

These bar tenders are thieves! Went on a Sunday which has $2.25 Well drinks all night and I was charged $11 for a Well vodka! What a horrible place!

Owner came get because some lesbians said I took their seats. Had they asked me nicely, that they were seated there, would have gladly given start back. Instead, was called as whole, owner came, took their side and I just left. Was ridiculous, that just because they complained to owner, that she took their side. Would not recommend to anyone after being a loyal, but dumb customer. Go to Crocker or Blur instead.

Best patio of all the Montrose bars to hang out at, especially on Sundays when they have a DJ outside. Was extremely happy to see they moved over the manager from Meteor, Shawn Forney when it closed along with the two new patio DJs. His happy go lucky attitude as a manager is infectious on the staff and it shows on their faces and in the service when hes working. Cute bartenders, hot dancers, and fantastic frozen drinks!!

Derick the owner is very inconsistent and inconsiderate. I was assuaulted by a group of men and I defended my life. He looked at the situation in the worst case possible and treated me and my friends like garbage (low class citizens as if we are a problem). A very non undersatnding and impatient bar owner . Did not even get to finish having our drinks we payed for before he had police escorting us out. Never again would ever want to go trough anything like this. This isnt what Montrose used to be. Just selfish morals and bad behavior now.

This was an awesome place to Karaoke at. The KJ and KJ Host were pretty cool. This comes from a person who also is a KJ in San Antonio, TX. I read some comments how they are skipped and they have no structure and how the KJ Host gets drunk. But I saw for myself how he wrote down the names and kept watch. His name was C/Koby and he was nice to me. I highly recommend the place and yes there is a wait time but every Karaoke place has a wait time. I definitely look forward to trying out that place again!

Great Place, Worst Service Team:The bar tender gave me Loud “Booooo 👎” because I asked for Pilsener beer!The bar tending team were very slow, after waiting for about 16 mins I got upfront to order a drink; the bar tender asked me to wait little more for him to finish some work, after he finished, he asked me what I won’t, I told home I like pilsener beer if you have any! He replayed “what is pilsener beer?” I asked to list what beer he has so I can order any. I ordered Heineken but for the long wait, I decided not to tip the guy. I took my rest of my cash and looked him in the eye saying I’m not tipping for the long wait time, then I was surprised with a loud “Booooo” with his thumbs down toward meI worked as a bar tender before; the tip dollar is not for everyone behind the Bar!

A bar tender thats works was apparently allowed to ban person I love from the entire establishment for non-safety related personal reasons that have nothing to do with Jrs. If this establishment condones this I will not be returning.

Won’t let men bring in bags, women can bring in big bags, but due to the crime in the area tried to bring my laptop bag, and they would now allow it. I like this bar but think they should accommodate after work professionals.

Good atmosphere, lots of space. The bar service was a little slow, but that’s to be expected with the groups of people coming in all at once. Typical parking for the area!

The new patio with the mister just makes this place OK. The mist outside makes hot nights worse. The only saving grace are that it is actually a bar. So interesting people go here to chat, drink, and play pool.

A group of my friends and I visited the bar last night as we usually do every Saturday but this time i want to express our displeasure with what we saw: bartender removing his face mask while chatting with customers, a bunch of customers around the bar, drinking, talking while no mask on their faces! And after that, we saw no one sanitizing the counter at the bar where all those people were congregating and talking. We will continue to visit the bar but will be even more vigilant.Thanks

When I was in my early 20s and lived a few blocks away, JRs was like a third home to me. My second home was a bar called Paradise where Crocker is now. I miss all my friends from those days. Anywho, JRs always had stiff drinks and lots of people watching. I made many friends here over the years I was running around the neighborhood.

The white man at the outdoor bar had no problem taking cash from the white patrons but when I came through he felt the need to say “this isn’t jack and the box dude” wow classy

It was one of my watering holes in the 80s-2000. Relatively fun place, Karaoke nights especially. Clean place & congenial staff. Drag shows were staid & repetitive (major snoozer). Nothing spectacular but ok.

I went on a Monday night. They had $1.50 frozen Rita’s! Loved the drag show! Atmosphere was great! I will be back for sure!

Okay traditional gay bar. It was a slow night when I was there but the bartender was extremely nice and attentive. The area is very dark so I would suggest a taxi or an uber instead of walking in that neighborhood.

Its a little dusty but i think that is its charm the bar is pretty even but the service is a tad bit understaffed they have alit of people here too and you never know who you will meet

JRs is a cozy neighborhood gay bar with great drinks, a friendly crowd, and good music. Always a pleasure to head out there and meet up with friends.

Service here is very rude, they charge for tap water, and I had a bartender tell me he didn’t have time to explain a drink to me. Would not recommend.

I’m not from around here and I wanted to go to a gay bar. Little did I know this one is for men. It was hard to find another woman, but it’s good music and good drinks anyway.

People get drunk and drive out the parking lot the wrong way and will hit your vehicle and it hard to track down the parking lot attended to even get a statement and there cameras dont work. The lesbian get drunk and is always fighting. Pass it up go to egals

Amazing place to go for HH and to grab drinks with friends anytime. Located in center of Montrose around other gay bars so will definitely recommend this area.

Went to see my cousins drag performance. The atmosphere and the (obviously regular) patrons and the staff were all very lively and friendly.

Always makes for a nice time. The Bartender Jay is amazing, the rest of the bar staff is friendly and accomodating.

My favorite escape in houston, staff is all very friendly, bartender Angel always takes care of me and my friends ask for his spicy drink its like an alcoholic Mexican candy!
