Had a good time here listening to some music performances. The setup is pretty cool open air with food and drinks available. Staff were all very attentive and fun. Food was tasty and not a terrible wait like mentioned in another review. They have special procedures if it is a big/busy night and the staff will give you instructions. Read them :)

What a great place with its own cool vibe. Food was great and so was the service. We went on a Thursday when a live band was playing and ended up staying most the night. Drinks were great too

We worked with Dave and his team at Blue Dragon to host our wedding ceremony in August of 2023. The entire experience was pleasant from all of the initial calls and emails to the days leading up to the wedding. Dave was accommodating, professional, and extremely helpful throughout the process. As a bonus, we were able to hire his band, Uncle Charlie, to play during our cocktail hour and reception.The venue was perfect for our reception and all of the guests and vendors raved about the open-air bar experience as well as the service from the bartenders and music from the band.Pricing was more than fair and we felt we received top-notch customer service and value. We couldnt have been happier with how the night went and it was wonderful to support a local venue so close to my wifes familys residence and business. Cant recommend them enough if you have a private party!

Fantastic service, thank you Spencer! I ordered the fish and chips and devoured them. We went on a Thursday and they had live music and the whole place was dancing & vibing. They have 2 palm trees with blue and red lights that were lit up after it got dark out & it is a whole vibe. It started sprinkling and it passed quickly but it made for a more memorable experience. They have live music Thursday through Sunday with a cover charge, if you’re wanting some entertainment while you eat and drink, this is the spot!

I cant comment on the food as I didnt eat but the servers checked frequently to see if I needed anything and brought water even if I didnt ask for it.I came for Fuego and for dancing. Its an outdoor venue so you can see the moon from the dance floor which is nice. The music was great and the vibe was good.

I have never felt like I needed to leave a review ever in my life… except for tonight… if I could leave 0 stars I would. Bartender (Dylan) was the most disrespectful person I have ever encountered. He took my first beer away after I went to the kitchen to say hi to my old friend Sheldon… I asked why he took it away? He said because he can… Probably because this guy smokes meth…. Multiple people told me he was high and it now makes sense why he acted like that. I will never be going back because of him and I will tell anyone that asks about this place to not go

Open air beautiful courtyard. enjoyed the Savory Brothers. the hammond organ was amazing.danced the night away!highly recommend.

I highly recommend Blue Dragon Tavern & Cosmic… And I’ll tell you way. First the professional service from the entire staff was excellent. I’m from New Orleans LA and good food is part of life. If you’re ever on the big island 🏝️ come over and try anything if not everything and I promise you want be disappointed in fact you’ll enjoy it so much you’ll be the next 5 star survey.. food here is so so so good you won’t believe it until you try it…..

Waited 3 hours for food that was terrible!!! I didn’t know you could screw up a hamburger. It was tasteless and the burger tasted like they boiled the patty. Don’t waste your money!!!! The music was amazing!!!!

What a fun evening. Latin dancing class followed by Feugo ( live Latin 10 piece band). Greta food and atmosphere. Highly recommend Friday night at Blue Dragon.

Went here for some live music and some food on a Friday night. Place was packed. The live music was very good and the service was exceptional, what bogged my experience down was the kitchen. One chef in the kitchen, so food was hour plus wait for appetizers - which is usually no problem except when the chef chooses to be the only one. The waitress we had explained thoroughly that the chef in the kitchen would not let anyone else cook on a busy Friday night, which is crazy. In addition, the food was just meh, which for a 2 hour wait for entrees is unacceptable. Fix the kitchen issues and this was 5/5 experience.

Feb 15 dinner and show was a disaster. I would not recommend coming here.We preordered food, arrived 15 minutes early, and were in the door right at 530, thinking our food order was already in. After checking with the waitress sometime later, we found out that was just for a count and not actually an order, so we had to place our order again.Everyone around us who arrived after us got their food a long time before we did. It wasnt until 745 that two of our four dishes were finally brought out. And 30 minutes later, at 815, the second two dishes came out, only 15 minutes before the end of the show, so late we refused them.Then it took 20 minutes and checked with two staff members to finally get the check and pay so we could leave.If they cant serve what they take orders for, they shouldnt do food. The staff were all matter of fact thats they way it is clearly a management problem. This is a top-down issue. The service staff isnt being given the training and tools they need.The musicians were good, but the sound system was full of background noise and mis adjusted.Overall, the Blue Dragon seems like it peaked a couple of decades ago and is dying a slow, painful death unless someone overhauls the management and cleans it up.

I think the vibes of this place are great but I didnt appreciate the $10 band cover charge, we could easily find another place to listen to a live band for free, especially when its just a small local band. The $28 taco bar seems excessive to me. Staff was friendly and welcoming so I wont rate this lower but I definitely wouldnt spend $50 a person for a bar restaurant.

Music was good, drinks were good, wait help was good. But when you have to wait 2 hours from when you order your food to get it. Something is very wrong in the kitchen! The show was over 20 minutes after we finally got our food.

The venue was great and the music was too. Especially for a Thursday night.Noy giving 5 stars is for our server. He didnt listen to what was ordered. Had to send my wifes food back and they still got it wrong.

I ordered a Cobb salad. No bacon, no onions, no crustini. A half a teaspoon of avocado, a half a teaspoon of blue cheese, two cups of romaine lettuce, a half boiled egg, two slices of cucumber, some jack cheese and 4 mini tomatoes for $18. Plus my salad which takes no prep took over an hour for the waiter to serve. Three people got their cooked entrees 15 minutes before mine. Very disappointed.

Fun open air venue. Not sure what some people are saying about the food being bad, both me and my wife enjoyed our meals just fine. The mixed drinks were top notch. Was a great night and if we werent so beat from sun n surf all day we woulda found ourselves here till close!

Wonderful venue. Chris Murphy and then Elle Rollins were so beautiful, I cried. And look up at the bright Kukolu moon and Jupiter twinkling above.I will go back there.And oh, their tempura green beans are fantastic! L

Blu Dragon Tavern is a fun outdoor venue to see and enjoy live music in Kawaihae! We went twice on our vacation and really enjoyed it.

Nice open air venue. The wait staff is attentive.

Warm greeting. Quick seating even with a good crowd. Waitress was very nice even though busy. Beer good (we tried the pineapple cider and the porter). Food very good ( fish and chips; steak verde). Live music memorable. It was a good meal.

Food was sub-par. We were not impressed at all. Beat salad was two small beats cut in half for $9. Come on! That is just mean. We were disappointed with all the mains as well. The waiters kept telling us how great out food was going to be...so when it was served we were very disappointed. Great place for drinks and dance/live music. Building is beautiful with an open roof throughout. We will not be recommending or going back.

Truly Terrible. We have had some great times over the years at the Blue Dragon. This week it was awful from start to finish. The wonton appetizer was totally flavorless. The sauce was just oil. My steak was cold, tough and lacked flavor. My wife ordered the catch of the day only to be told that they had run out. There were less that 12 people at the restaurant. She had fish tacos which were bland. The band was poor. We paid an extra $10 person cover charge, only to have the band leader tell us 4 times that it was his 3rd night in a row and he was tired. His lead singer was so bad he had her sit out most of the show. When the server brought the bill she left half a pen. The half with no ink. Overall, it was a mess from start to finish. Very sad because it used to be Cool place.

This island is so fortunate to have a venue like the blue dragon in Kohala. A gorgeous open air, comfortable place for dancing and live music, with a full bar and a decent menu. Lets keep it going! Support the Dragon!

This is truly an amazing spot. It is located in a part of Hawaii that rarely gets rain and therefore the restaurant has no roof. The interior and exterior seating look up at the stars and they never close the top. There is love music, strong drinks and great food. Its a fun night out with a spectacular view.

Such a wonderful place for live music & dancing under the stars! Also great for just listening to the music & enjoying the atmosphere. If you knew the Blue Dragon from a few years ago, there has been a shift... It has been redefined as a live music (& dance) venue that happens to have food (pupus, aka appetizers), whereas in the past it was a full restaurant that happened to have live music. Ive seen a number of great bands since they reopened this fall, including bands that have driven all the way from the other side of the island because everyone is so excited to have this wonderful venue open again! If you go to their website, you can see a calendar for the whole month of events and their Facebook page has updates for any last minute changes. I enjoyed the carnitas last night... Good fresh fish also. (The drinks are a bit expensive, but typical for pricing on the Kohala Coast.) There is now a cover charge, which ensures that the band gets paid a reasonable amount. In the past, this was a venue where dancers and music lovers would come and sometimes not buy any food or drinks, nor would they tip the band nor the servers for bringing them endless glasses of water! (Note to dancers & music lovers: If you find a place on the island without a cover charge, be sure to tip the band! And if you arent having an alcoholic drink, order some food or a mock-tail or Coke, however tip your server well... She or he is still working just as hard bringing your beverage & food... And if you dont support the venue, it will close.)Be sure to check out this great place... Such a great way to experience a tropical evening in the open air!

This place has kinda gone downhill. The seats and tables were dirty. The food was just ok. The band was excellent. However, something by the stage smelt like horse manure.

The unique outdoor atmosphere is lively and tranquil at the same time. This paired with amazing food and the best local live entertainment make for an evening well spent. The staff seem to go the extra mile, too, with genuine aloha for guests. Recommended!

Good food, but TERRIBLE service. We had a big group, however there is no excuse for the bill not arriving for more than half an hour after the table was cleared. They OVERCHARGED us by $120, because they could not tell that some of the people in our party already paid for their meals with a credit card. All they could say for themselves was that they are going to change the policy for large groups. Sorry, but it is not going to help us! Beware!

Small intimate setting, not somewhere youd go if you were in a rush. Live music was awesome.

Excellent drinks, great service, good food, awful location, ridiculous prices.For what we paid ($160 for two appetizers and entrees and drinks), Id expect to be really impressed with the food quality. I wasnt. The food was fine, it just wasnt worth what they were charging.We regretted driving all the way up here from Kona only to sit outside bothered by mosquitos and constantly shooing flies away from our plates.

They get a 5 for Entertainment although food was good the menu is extremely limited I believe based on the day so make sure that you check check with them when we were there or they were only serving fries and wings more like appetizers good like appetizers good but dont expect to get a full meal without calling ahead 1st to see what theyre offering highly recommend a visit there great people great service

What a blessing to have such a fine restaurant just minutes from home. Fresh, local and organic ingredients are three big reasons why we eat at the Blue Dragon. The food presentation is unique and the flavors are extraordinary. How about a big island burger with peanut butter served on a waffle? Dont be shy, it was yummy!Last time we ate there we enjoyed a 12 piece orchestra motivating people onto the dance floor all evening long. Absolutely terrific farm fresh food, with excellent service to boot. One of the best meals, soup to nuts, Ive had in a long time. Highly, highly recommended. Absolutely try the tempura avocado with ahi poke appetizer.

There are two reasons why people come to the Blue Dragon. One, they live here and theres nowhere else around; two theyre on vacation and think that spending more always equates to better food. The wait staff was attentive at a four star level and the fresh fruit drinks expertly concocted. Flies and mosquitoes distracted from the less than generous platings for the price. The food wasnt bad, it just wasnt anywhere near worth the price. For over thirty dollars a plate, I expected a higher caliber.

What a FUN venue! Hostesses and wait staff was wonderful. The food truck food options were great and tasty. Curry dish was excellent.

Great environment, great music and even better owners. I remember when this place was boarded up and is now a lively spot with good food to go with friends, family, etc. Great job on the remodel. Thanks for updating a previously closed down spot and bringing life back to Kawaihae.

The Blue Dragon is a fabulous restaurant with incredible locally sourced food, great drinks, an awesome staff and wonderful owners! Having just had our 2nd annual Dinner Theatre at the Blue Dragon, we of Lavaroots Performing Arts are so grateful to have such an amazing venue on the North end of the island. Performing and sharing music and dance at the Blue Dragon is such a treat, and I think all the patrons who go there, have a somewhat magical time, if not completely! Mahalo nui loa to everyone there, we think you are da bomb!

Great atmosphere and even better food, possibly the best of our trip. Locally sourced, inventive and delicious.They just opened a food truck parked outside for lunch on the days the restaurant isnt open and its equally as good.

Back in Hawaii to reunite with my College roommates. We loved it it! Great service and delicious food. Parking was a bit of a problem. But will definitely come again when I get back to Hawaii.

Extremely expensive... terrible seats, stage curtain knocked my wine all over me and broke a second glass when the wind blew. Service staff did forget the bread. Happy Valentines Day.

I love to dance, and the last time I got a chance to dance it up was at the Blue Dragon! Love to take my family that visits there, it can accommodate larger groups and children that want to move around.

The freshly fried fish and chips were delicious. The fish and chips were really delicious, with both the thick white fish and potatoes freshly fried and fluffy.Drinks and food arrived at the table quickly after ordering.We had a piping hot meal while enjoying wonderful music on a full moon night, and the delicious drink (I dont know the name) with coconut in it was delicious and unique to Hawaii. Wonderful heartwarming service.
