Stevie Rays Blues Bar

Our favorite bars are the ones that offer live blues, so we stopped in at Stevie Rays to grab a couple of beers and take in some live music. The atmosphere is cool, the service was excellent, and while the band, All That, was good, it was not blues. We didnt have any food, but the beer we had, Falls City Hipster Repellent, was really good. We will probably stop in again next time were in Louisville, hopefully therell be some blues playin.

Teresa was my bar tender yesterday when I was in. She’s such a sweet heart, very personal and caring. She deserves a raise, by far best service I’ve had at a bar! Atmosphere is great. I got to meet Johnny Edwards that was awesome, nice guy! I highly recommend this bar even if it’s a little bit down on whisky row!

This place was such an amazing Gem! Very hospitable. Lovable and tasty drinks and a huge variety of bourbons as well. Amazing live music! Mona the owner was such a sweetheart! She is really involved in the business and it shows how much love she puts into it. Would definitely recommend!

Nice bar playing live music on weekdays. They have a full bar. Did not try their food though

Bartenders(owners) are very friendly and will mix your cocktails the way you like. Also the band played good music. We had Cadillac Margaret, a dram of Bakers 7yr. Very Fine bar.

Was hoping for some good live music on a tuesday night. Appears it was open mic night as different people from the audience took turns, sometimes with the house band(?) other times full band changeout. Some better than others.No wait staff so ordered drinks at the bar. Well made old fashioned with Old Forester bourbon, but nothing spectacular.

Very nice laid back bar. Play live music and have a back patio and little tables out front. Drinks are reasonably priced. Wait staff are very good about keeping drinks full ! Enjoyed our experience here !I didnt order any food so Im not sure about that !

You can order your own food, we ordered pizza. Handicap accessible too!

Friends and I were invited to Stevie Ray’s tonight and our experience was absolutely awesome. Everyone from the sound guy, who insisted to let us on stage to take pictures, down to the talented bartender who made a killer cocktail, was absolutely a pleasure to be around. The music was superior, the guest were all friendly, the building was clean and stylish - I mean this place is really cool. It was a pleasure to be invited out and be able to experience this gem myself! I can not wait to be able to put out flyers myself and point more people in their direction!-Audrey(Mae) Icenhower

Very fun, lively place and the music was top notch. The waitstaff were checking with us often. The only thing I would suggest as an improvement would be featured cocktails and a list of cocktails and beers.

I had an incredible time with the live music. We spent the whole night dancing, super recommended, a good atmosphere and interior decoration, the musicians sang HPBD to my colleague... everything was very good, come enjoy!

I honest have so much fun there. It’s more for the older crowd, but I can fit either way. Recommend 100% to all my friends.

Went to see Lori Jane and the 45s,they were SO fantastic. such fun music and,what a voice! Great spot too,friendly environment and excellent wait staff. Also the female saxophone player was amazing and such a joy to watch.

Great place, great live music. They allow food orders to be delivered there from outside places. Great drinks made by great bartenders.

This place is a shell of its former self. Staff overcharged me ($40 for 1 shot and a coke chaser) and refused my refund, not to mention they dont even play blues anymore. Last time I was there (3 weeks ago) they were playing Michael Jacksons Billie Jean 😂

Always show Stevie Rays a little love when were in Louisville if we can possibly swing it. Had a great time listening to Bag of Hammers, stepping out into the Voodoo Garden, and sipping the absolute best Bloody Mary I think Ive ever had that I didnt make myself.

Love this bar! The open jams during the week never disappoint. You never know who might show up to sit in with the house band. Great bartenders and servers. Nice atmosphere. If youre downtown, be sure to stop in! Live music six nights a week.

Great place to come and enjoy some blues and just relax. Love the atmosphere! Very clean restrooms. The lady at the door was very polite and made us feel very welcome. The bar service was great. Very fast and friendly and the music was awesome of course! We will be back for more.

Fun place to visit if you are downtown. Something different to experience. Live music most nights.

I was in town from Philadelphia and felt remiss if I didnt catch some live music so I was excited to see their World Famous Tuesday Blues Jam and the tunes did not disappoint. The music was so great and the vibe of the place is very cool. If I was local I would be here all the time and will definitely visit again next time I am in town.

I don’t know if I had greater expectations than I should have, or if I was just really let down. I moved to Louisville and was told this was THE spot for local blues. I went Saturday night looking to see King Bee and The Stingers, a band I saw prior and was very impressed by.The 7$ cover was cheap, so no big deal there. The crowd was mixed, but not in a good way. You had plenty people that were clearly there for the music, but you also had loud, drunk, and pushing each other around obnoxious frat crowd ruining it. I sat down and ordered a margarita, just had a cigar and wanted something citrus. What came out was really bad. Clearly using a mixer/canned stuff to make, it was overly sweat with sugar and no like citrus taste. There was also WAY too much mixer, and you couldn’t taste the tequila. They had all the ingredients to make a margarita from scratch, I don’t know why they wouldn’t. No beer on tap. Ordered a pour of Bookers, but was I was also most too sick from the margarita to finish it. Between the loud younger crowd and the bad drink, I left before the band I came to see started.The music is great. They need to improve the atmosphere and cocktails to match. Can’t see coming back.

Went here on 11/18 with a Friend after the comedy show. I paid for two tickets to get in and then went to the bar and ordered one drink. I cashed out and paid what I thought was 11 dollars and a tip. The next day I checked my bank and they charged me 40 dollars! I couldnt believe it. The bartender was a jerk too!

In town for a visit last Saturday and went for an evening out with my wife. The music was exceptional, and there was a great overall ambiance in the bar. Highly recommend.

My first time there. The live music was real nice. The waitress and the lady at the door were real friendly. I wouldve stayed for the second band but it was too long of a wait for someone whos not really a bar person.

Went on a Friday night. The bar and seating were packed due to live music as to be expected. It took a bit to wrangle a server after scoring a table, but that was too be expected given the crowd. Server was quick, friendly and attentive. Bar was clean and lively. Overall great visit.Bathrooms couldve used some attention but not horrific.

Andrew Ashers Hall of Fame Celebration night! The music was Live Jazz Music!One of the best Jazz Bars I have been to in a long time and we found one in Louisville, Kentucky!!Even though Andrew has passed on, The People of Louisville, Ky. Have His Love of Celebrating Life!!

Great place to hear good music and dance.

The bar and atmosphere was great. They have local bands playing on some nights, which I do enjoy. The selection of spirits is good and the pricing is typical of many bars in the area. Overall it was an enjoyable experience.

The owners are outstanding. They were doing everything from waiting, to bartending, to cleaning, and even emergency medical. I had a conversation with one and you could tell that he truly cared about the people and not the money. Wonderful experience. Oh yea, the music and dancing was exceptional as well!

We went last night & heard a remarkable band Bleu Phonque ALL were remarkable but Paul McGarry ( sp ) was n another zip code...Atomic Groove Machine was a cherry on top to end a incredible evening. Had Johnny Edwards singing( Foreigner fame )...Tony Susnick stole the show & was in a different ozone.....GUARANTEED he has the Extended Warranty on his axes...probably putting new strings in as I tex...Stevie Rays was Rock N that night...Good Times !!!

Great place to hear live Blues 🎶 music. My little brother Gregory plays the drums there. Truly enjoy listening to him and the jazz and blues bands. My dad was his biggest supporter of his love for the drums.

We enjoyed an evening of drinks and live music last Friday. Wonderful to be back in a live music venue. Our waitress was new and very nice. She got everything right.The $3 Evan Williams pours were a welcome treat after a dinner at Jack Frys.

Was there 7/29/2023 , Had a few drinks , band took a break, then there was an EMERGENCY they said ? We all had to leave and the lights went on !! Music was good, beer was cold, service was good !! WONDER WHAT HAPPENED ???

Great place for live music. Seating is a little tight and after 9:00 everything gets pushed up against the wall and Im surprised its not a fire hazard. Otherwise great place

I love the atmosphere. I love all the music they host and that they have TWO open mic blues jams per week! The musicians and staff behind the bar and the sound are excellent!!! My ONLY complaint is (like EVERY other blues jam Ive been to in the U.S.) it starts, 30 minutes to an hour late

Great atmosphere and music. I was pleased to see the cleanliness of the space, including the restrooms. There is also a roomy outdoor space in the back for smoking or to escape the crowd. Bartenders are all very friendly and very good at repeated, frequent enough checkups for customers both seated at tables and the bar

Went to Stevie Rays for the first time to jam with some of my friends during one of their open mic nights. Staff was great, everyone was extremely nice, and the music was awesome. It was nice not getting mean mugged from across the bar for a change. Go check it out! A lot of great local talent and some from out of town. I think its my new favorite place!

Loved listening to live Gary Cain last night. The atmosphere was awesome.I have sound sensitivity issues so the loud music was tricky to listen to right? Wrong! There was a fountain area in the back that was accessible so I could listen to the music and enjoy myself!Reasonably priced drinks as well.

No Nashville! Band was ok. People working and bartender awesome! No food however. Stale pretzels from Kroger only option. And for love of GOD, get some comfortable chairs! Overall, decent.

On are way home from a Wonderful, and Beautiful Adventure in the Black Mountain of Ashville NC. We stop in Louisville Ky There is a little historic area called Bourbon Row this Stevie Rays is there. Our 4th stop of the night. It was totally a Awesome night cap to our day. Service could have been better, but it looked like they may have been short handed. But the drinks, live music, and the feel of the place was Amazing!!!

A $6 cover isnt too bad for 2 bands but the place could use a little updating. It is a long time staple on Main Street for good music. Since they dont serve food, youre allowed to bring your own food, which is very nice. Mona, at the door, has always been just lovely!

Was visiting Louisville for one night and found this place just a few blocks from where I was staying. I wish we had a bar like this in Asheville! Great music (and it started early, at 6:30, which is great—went till late too) and friendly service. Plenty of room on the dance floor. Can’t wait to go back one day!

Wanted to check this place out because my husband is a huge Stevie Ray fan. Loved it here. Very chill spot with some live music. Im not too crazy about the city of Louisville...but the only reason we will be back is because of this bar! Loved it!!

Charged a $7 cover charge just to sit at a half empty bar. Im sure that is policy, but its not a good look to want recurring customers.

This place was really cool small venue with a really great blues band. Drinks were a little pricey plus it was $6 a piece to get in but I think worth it. Well worth a visit

Was here for an industry event last night. Dont know who the band was, but they were absolutely JAMMING. Dance floor was packed. Probably some of the best live music Ive heard in a while. Drinks were solid too and the bar staff were top notch.

Live music is a treat especially when local artists pour their soul into their craft. The wait staff is EXCEPTIONAL: thank you you Becca and team! The vibe and energy at Stevie Rays is chill and Easy like a Sunday Morning.

Its a nice place for blues enthusiasts of Louisville. Its a friendly place and people respect those who are having a nice time. They have a small dance floor which becomes crowded when things gets going. You have to go through that dance floor obstacle if you are to go to the restrooms. You wont get any tables on weekends if you come a bit too late. No bar chows though except chips which they would hand out to you in packs. But there is a food truck right outside the bar. Music is good, drinks are good.

Great evening bar with good drinks and right band playing. Good casual crowd having fun. Dancing friendly atmosphere. Problem you have to locate parking nearby but not a great problem.

We stayed at the courtyard Marriott a couple of blocks down and walked to Stevie Rays. It is a real good time. We had good weather and that made walking and enjoyable.

Nice little bar with a great atmosphere. The bartender was friendly and they had a decent bourbon selection. They had live music, a decent blues band, and a mature crowd. I will return.

Wow, Stevie Rays, what a delight. It has formerly been impossible to get prompt service on a busy evening waiting at the bar but now that SRs has implented waitresses coming to the high top tables, the system has improved! Enjoyed the cover band and being surrounded by others also there for the music.

My favorite bar. Love the open jam nights. Lots of regulars. Very mellow place. Great place for couples. Been going there 17 years and never seen a fight or anyone make trouble.

I complain to friends all the time about this place, however, sometimes the bands are awesome and super talented, and sometimes they hire bands that should be playing at wedding receptions ...and thats on weekends. Id like to think Stevie Rays is too cool to hire bands that play the song Brick House, but sadly, thats not true. It would be great if they would set one night a week aside for jazz, but they dont seem to have the balls to try anything like that. The thing is though, the place has a great vibe, and I would have given it another star rating, but my last two visits were disappointments.

LIVE BANDS USUALLY NEVER DISAPPOINT. Only one bad experience, Live Band sang all their own original songs.. one cover (prince) which the dance floor was full. But other than that great atmosphere

Fantastic! There were jam bands there the night I found it. No cover. Excellent ambience. Outdoor fenced Voodoo Garden with a fountain!

Sadly they stopped playing blues on the weekends; its just a mix of cover songs. But the music is good. Its nice to just go and chill and not be bothered by a meat market. Fyi you can still enjoy blues during the week.

I love the blues so much so this place is great for a fan like me. Live music all the time with mostly local talent. The music selection is vast because each band is different because they play together from putting their names on a list. The place is clean, cool, and will have you wanting to come back. Dont get spoiled

This place rocks. Best music venue in the city. Service is great and prices are reasonable. Fantastic atmosphere and always a good older crowd. The place for adult entertainment and dancing.

The only thing that could make Stevie Rays better is more space. Every time Ive been there its impossible to find a seat. Of course, that just speaks to the popularity of the place, but I know we would have stayed longer tonight to listen to the great band (Nobodys Bizzness) if we had been able to find a table.

There is no other bar/club in Louisville quite like Stevie Rays. This has become a regular haunt for my wife and I as the vibe and atmosphere are as chill and welcoming than any establishment we have been in downtown. I cannot recommend their version of Liquid Marijuana enough! Refreshing, delicious and strong - basically a 2019 updated version of a Long Island Ice Tea. Trust me, TRY ONE (or two)!

Came here probably 9 years ago and saw a band called The Kingbees.....been a fan every since. Blues bar supreme.

Atmosphere is cool, dance floor is large.. Some great bands playing here.. My only complaint is the drinks are extremely overpriced.. My boyfriend and I had seven drinks and the bill was $100

This place is horrible. They played no blues music. They had a DJ playing music from the 80s. There was a coverage charge for live music when there was no live music. The bartender called my girlfriend a racial slur. If you ask locals they will tell you the place has gone down hill. It was recommended to us by our hotel concierge.

Very nice place to hear live music!! It is true they dont serve food but there is a food truck out front that serves delicious sandwiches and burgers. Even filet mignon sandwich..and they bring it to your table.Next time we wont eat before we go..so we can have a hot brown sandwich!!!

Overrated in my humble opinion. Dry,typical and bland. Wasnt the atmosphere I was looking for. Indy has a nice blues bar called the slippery noodle and a jazz club called the jazz kitchen on college ave. These two spots gets two thumbs up!

Awesome place to go and listen to music and an even better place to play. If you are a live musician and looking for a place that will take care of you. This is it, what a great gig.

Great blues bar. The best part is seeing the same older black man that really gets into the music every time I go. Buy him a drink or something if you see him, hes about 6.2 and dances a lot with his jazz hands. I love it

Yes, its known for its Blues Music, but be aware if you want to participate in open mic night. Whomever is running it follows an unethical methodology of playing favorites. Seriously -- who let this joker run this? There should be clear cut rules as to who plays, based on when they get there, what instrument they play and genre of music they want to play.

The band leader said he had been playing there on Tuesdays for 30 years.... thats crazy and they are fantastic!

A lot of local music with a sprinkling of celebrity. Not just blues, but rock and even some jazz. If you like blues, the Tuesday night blues jam is free. Saturday night blues has a cheap cover charge.

Stevie Rays is a Louisville institution. Friendly people, music all the time. Centrally located in proximity to killer food and lots of bars. Guaranteed to have a good time!

Birthday party for Tom M. was rockin and the( joint) was hoppen (litterly) the music was flowing and the blues were blowing, thru the horns, the alcohol was flowing and then I got drunk !!!!!

The place was hopping and the music was very good. I will definitely check it out again.

Great place for live music, but no food service here other than a food truck out front.

Love this place - has the perfect dive bar feel for blues, and the live music/bands are great.

Stevie Rays is a great blues bar, with a friendly staff and a great sound man. Tuesday nights is the blues jam open to anyone that wants to get up and play.

Staff was so friendly and accommodating even though we came with a large group. Thanks for a fun night!
