This was a family trip during April 2023 and the first time that any of us had been to Mohonk. I had heard tons of good stuff beforehand, including the information that it was expensive, but totally worth it. Im gonna have to agree! At first we did not quite know what to make of the hotel itself but in about half a day... we felt right at home and the place really grew on us quickly. There is a daily itinerary available for guests, which has the dining times as well as all activities for the day. Almost everything is included in the room rate except the spa (which is expensive) and other special excursions etc. We tried archery, ax throwing, the pool (huge and indoor), hiking etc. There were activities every evening as well as movies, shows and live music. Alcohol is not included in the room rate, but was not too expensive. The service was excellent and every single staff member that we dealt with was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the food - breakfast and lunch are buffet with several stations available, so quite a variety of food. Dinner was sit down and a little more formal. There is a lovely gift shop, which also has a specialty coffee bar (additional cost). The area is gorgeous and there seem to be lots of seasonal activities to look forward to. Will have to visit again!
What an amazing place! Really so nice. My wife and I needed a day off, so we went here, and it was perfect. First, we hiked the Lemon Squeeze, we have done it before, but it is so much fun and the views on top are amazing. I had a tennis lesson with Robert, and he was absolutely top of the line. I have had may many lessons before, but he was worth many many times more than any of them. He is so knowledgeable and instructive. The staff is so nice and helpful. My wife really enjoyed the spa which is so pleasant and professional.
We had a very enjoyable experience. The price encompasses all meals and activities. We were impressed with the view and the helpfulness of the staff. They had a wonderful kids club for children aged 4 to 12. We appreciated the opportunity to take our son there and relax as well. The only drawback was that the fireplaces in some rooms were smoky, but guests could choose to avoid those rooms. This was a minor inconvenience for us, and we would recommend staying in a room without a fireplace. The views are stunning, and it is a lovely place overall. I highly recommend it..
Though expensive, the stay offers exceptional value. All meals—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—are included, along with a comprehensive list of daily activities. The food is outstanding, far surpassing typical hotel fare. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style with numerous options, including an omelet station at breakfast and a pasta station at lunch. Dinner is a more formal sit-down meal with a menu requiring reservations. Activities run throughout the day and include options like hiking tours, archery, tomahawk throwing, meditation, and yoga. Some activities, like the Pinnacle Ledge tour, incur an additional cost, but the hotels activity sheet and online list specify which ones. Booking any spa service grants all-day access to the spa, even for lower-cost services such as manicures or pedicures. The staff is incredibly friendly and dedicated to ensuring guests feel comfortable and enjoy their stay. We had a fantastic experience and will definitely return.
We bought a day hiking pass. Its a beautiful place to explore with a variety of viewpoints offering exceptional views of the Hudson Valley. The gardens are lovely. The lake is inviting. There are easy, paved walks and quite adventurous scrambles, so you can easily pick the grade of your adventure. This place is appropriate for young and old explorers.
Mohonk provides an experience that you immediately want to repeat! The house itself is a unique destination. The setting is utterly stunning. Great care has been taken to create luxurious accommodations in a natural environment without compromise or damage to the beauty of the land. A trip to Mohonk is worth the price!
I used to vacation here as a kid back in the early 90’s, so I’m a little late in leaving this review. All joking aside, some of my fondest memories while growing up are here. Daily tea time, board games, arts and crafts, magic shows, plays, browsing the library, beautiful hikes, taking pedal boats out on the lake, ice skating on the lake in winter, spending time on the beach watching the log rollers, and so so much more. Pure and genuine time spent with family without any distractions. Such a wonderful place, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for the memories, Mohonk Mountain House. I look forward to the day I can visit again with my own family and make many more.
So, I loved Mohonk, I’ve been going since I was very young. And almost every year (now every other) we always go for a week (we as in my family) and I’ve always loved it, the food was great. The trail’s spectacular and the service immaculate! But my experience isn’t everyone’s, I haven’t been this year so some stuff may have changed for the worse, but last I knew (last year). It was godly, but for the last few years I have been noticing the food quality has been going down. Mostly just lunch, it’s not that there bad options, it’s just that it’s the same everyday, and it gets very repetitive. Anyways, I’ve loved this place, and I will continue to go. But for the steep price I’d say it’s worth it.
My family and I bought a daily hiking pass. The trails and views were beautiful. The mountain house and like were stunning. My one complaint would be that they do not seem to have a place for visitors to buy refreshments. The feels like temperature was 100 degrees.
We recently stayed for a short babymoon. It was wonderful, food was excellent, all staff was phenomenal from valets, to front desk, to wait staff, to housekeeping. The area is beautiful especially at this time of year, we forgot jackets and the gift shop had great options for the colder weather than expected. It rained Sunday but that did not make us leave early as they still had a number of things to do and enjoy the area and facilities. Really wonderful time!
My niece and I came for the day pass and had a wonderful hiking experience. The trees were magical and the trails were fantastic. We also went ice skating and had a fabulous experience. The skate shop workers were super kind and helpful. We then went to dinner at the main dining room and we were extremely disappointed by the preparation, presentation and the temperature of the foods. The majority of the food we received was either room temperature or cold. The French onion soup, although hot, looked like a blob of cheese in brown water. The bread was warm for a second and became a concrete ball with a soft center. Then came the entrees. The steak was very fatty and it was cold. The pasta dish was cold too. The one good experience was the halibut, it was warm and delicious.I am telling you all of this because I believe the cost of this day was exorbitant for this type of dinner experience. I was extremely embarrassed to have my niece, who was visiting from North Carolina, experience this after I had raved about your restaurant. I hope for future guests you can take more care and interest in your food service.
Came for a few hours using the Summer Sports Pass. It rained, but we still enjoyed the escape from NYC to canoe on the lake, take a short hike, and have tea and cookies.I couldnt imagine paying $800+ for a night here - you can stay at a luxury resort in Hawaii for less, but the $100pp for a day pass seemed reasonable. Plenty of other advertised activities for night guests.
Been there for a university program. Stayed 2days and 1 night. The nature is so beautiful there. Enjoyed hiking, and kayaking. Foods were really good. Pool was clean. But those room looks real old. That was not a problem until i found a centipedes on the roof, directly above my face while lying down on bed. I killed it using my shoe, but couldn’t sleep after that thinking of possibly presence of more centipedes . Another problem I found in the morning, there was no toothbrush and toothpaste in the washroom. I called the receptionist she said they don’t provide those. Later I found out there was a card in the washroom with the towel that if I needed brash or paste, i have to call their housing service which is a different phn number from the reception. At last i got what I needed! It was my second time there, but 2 years ago my experience was better.
Mohonk Mountain house is a relaxing getaway not too far from the city and NJ. The place is clean and well maintained for the age of the place. The food is absolutely delight and in great quality. The service is top tier from all the employees there. Especially Eamon. Eamon made sure that I was attended in all my needs in the restaurant within the house. He went above and beyond with his service. There’s many varieties of activities that are offered to their guests. From swimming in the lake, canoeing, hiking, entertainment during certain hours of the day. You can also do nothing and just admire the scenery of the property. It is such a relaxing environment. The trails has such beautiful scenery throughout the property that you will enjoy. I recommend this place for anyone looking wanting a getaway to relax and unwind.
I have been coming here for 30 years.Love, Love the mohonk. We brought our family this time. They loved it.I had one complaint.... During afternoon tea and cookies...A man was having tea without a shirt on....The relaxed dress code is great but, seriously.
Had the most be beautiful stay here. The place was amazing. The food was amazing. So much to do here too. If you need to disconnect from work this is a great place to do it. Just so you know there are no television in the rooms. So put youre phone away and truly disconnect. You will love this place!!
We had a wonderful few days together here. Its been on our bucket list for many years. However there were a few minor issues that I didnt expect at a top class resort. The first night our room was very warm. The cooling didnt work, so we slept badly. When I reported it, it turned out that the cooling valve was closed. Also the shower was lukewarm. This was fixed. The website and menu had typos on them. Website was fixed after I reported it.Exercise and yoga classes were supposed to be 45 minutes but one was 35 and two yoga classes were overlong. The cheese board claimed local cheeses, but they served a cheese described as Oregon Blue. Also, one night the waitress didnt know what cheeses were on the cheese board.Minor complaints during a delightful stay. I hope you can use this feedback to perfect your visitors experience.
My family had a long weekend vacation at the Mohonk Mountain House and we loved it! The customer service and attention to detail they put forth is second to none. Everyone goes so far out of their way to be friendly and helpful. I lost my hat and did not realize it until we were checking out. The hotel manager personally tracked it down and found me on the grounds to personally return it to me. It was very refreshing to receive this kind of service which seems to be a thing of the past. The food and drinks were excellent and the trails are beautiful and well kept. The hotel has so many activities to keep you busy during your stay. Hiking, biking, swimming, archery, fire pits, the spa. You name it and they have it. I would absolutely stay again.
Mohonk is an absolute treasure. Having lived locally at one time and proposing there ten years ago this August I had forgotten just how special and fortunate we are that places like this still exist in the world. We spent the day visiting on Sunday and took the kids to brunch and hiking the labyrinth/lemon squeeze on Sunday. We corralled some family that lives in Beacon and had an absolutely wonderful experience. As a foodie you simply cannot best the brunch, it’s exceptional. The scenery and experience of being in such a special place is unforgettable…
We cannot possibly say enough wonderful things about Mohonk. Ive been going since I was a child with my family and now my husband and I enjoy every trip we take there. Daryl at the front desk is incredible, thoughtful, caring and detail oriented. He exemplifies the Mohonk spirit we love so much. We also are always grateful to Jamaal and the team in the Dining Room for making magic happen each meal time. Always a delight. This past trip we enjoyed fishing, archery, hiking and of course, the guided tours of the house itself. Will be back soon!
Mohonk is my happy place. We went in the winter when the main activities were hiking and ice skating and it was enough. The place was not busy at that time, we felt that we had the woods to ourselves. I would go back there in a heartbeat for more hiking. The sunrise hike to the Sky Top tower was the highlight of my trip. My daughter appreciated the plethora of most beautiful running trails. We felt very well taken care of, the place was calm and quietly luxurious. We also loved the spa after a day of hiking and running. After just three days I felt recharged and ready to face the world.
We actually had afternoon tea and dinner here. We didn’t realize how magnificent this place is as we drove towards the entrance. We thought it was a big house with restaurant when we googled it. Once we drove up two miles from the entrance to the top, we were approaching a magnificent huge castle hotel. Inside the building the decor was in 19 century style with a lot of wooden walls and frames and filled with antique furniture and chairs. Afternoon tea is included in the dinner. We had tea, coffee and cookies. The shortbread was so delicious. Dinner was in a huge dining hall. Customers can choose from a three-course menu of French cuisine. I would say the food is good enough to meet your expectation. For the entry, I had lamb as my wife had Halibut. We both were satisfied. In addition, dessert was surprisingly good, delicately arranged and not too sweet at all. My wife and I plan to visit the place again in summer.
Our initial impression was not ideal: Upon entering the park we were met by a surly man who instructed us to leave their parking area and return with our tickets which must be purchased online. There is no option to buy it onsite. The site was a bit of a challenge to navigate on a phone and it was not possible to purchase the day of (despite the parking lot being empty) so I bought for the next day hoping they’ll not give us a hard time. This time a woman met us and condescendingly told us she’ll give us the pass despite it being the wrong date. She gave us vague instructions and when I returned to her for clarity, she started her exposition with “as I explained before…”So the gate keepers had a bit of an attitude but I suppose that is the duty of gatekeeping. If you can tolerate the gate people, the rest of the adventure was magnificent! The land is immaculately kept, incredible fauna and flora, gorgeous lakes, a pond that looks like something out of Game of Thrones together with an ancient looking tower that was built in the early half of the 20th century. The workers at the restaurant and gift shop are kind and pleasant and an absolute joy to interact with. There are a myriad of hills to explore and the views are breathtaking. We encountered graceful deer, adorable tadpoles and fish, turtles sunbathing and a rich diversity of birds. The walks are not challenging at all if you hike fairly regularly (2,3 times a month). We bought snacks at the very quaint and charming gift shop which interestingly enough had copious amounts of British snacks like flake and aero chocolate which harkened me back to my childhood. Their prices were great considering they have no competition and could price gouge if they so chose. Aside from snacks the gift shop had candles and jewelry and books and milkshakes- the list goes on and on.The folks working here are so fun and interesting to talk with, just stellar humans 💜Together my friend and I with one car was charged $70 to park and explore. Thats $35 a person. I am happy for this experience. I am glad we did because otherwise we would always wonder. Yet also knowing that there are a plethora of equally gorgeous hiking opportunities in NY state that doesn’t charge - its a thought to ponder. After our adventure we explored the adorable town of New Paltz which has plenty of lovely restaurants, shops , great small-town vibes and homemade chocolate 🥰What a perfect end to this fantastic journey.
Always a vibe and pleasure. Be prepared to not be hungry for days after! Keep up the lake swim, Mohunk! It’s a favorite. We even enjoyed our rainy day.
My husband and I just returned from a wonderful three night stay at our favorite resort. From the first “slowly and quietly” sign approaching the house the feeling of serenity hits you. Upon entering the house you can feel the craziness of the world disappear and calm start to set in.It’s not just the place that makes it so special but the staff. From valet, to front desk, housekeeping, restaurants, the spa, all are happy to help, all have a friendly word and smile.I’d like to especially thank Colleen at the front desk for being very accommodating, to Jennifer in the spa, wow you are just plain wonderful! Thank you for your care and for going above and beyond! You scheduled me with Diane for a haircut and it was great! Thank you snd thank you Diane! I’m sorry I didn’t get up to show you the morning I left. For all of you who kept my husbands “ surprise anniversary” a secret, Thank you too.Thank you to all the 6th floor housekeeping!Mohonk! By far my favorite resort and Spa. I’ve had the pleasure of staying here many times over the past 26 years. It never gets old, it never disappoints. It’s an experience:)
Valentine’s Day stay at Mohonk Mountain House, another wonderful surprise from my Husband. We skated, hiked, relaxed, enjoyed really fantastic meals, and never wanted to leave! The service was impeccable. We were cared for by very gracious wait staff, front desk, housekeepers, valets. Very friendly, very professional!
Everything about Mohonk is amazing. The outdoor activities, the food, the amenities, the peace and quiet. It’s a luxury, all-inclusive summer camp that you never knew existed. Can’t wait to do it again.
$300+ dinner for two and we were seated next to tables full of small kids (doing kid stuff). I really didn’t know that this was more of a kids resort when I booked it. We thought it would be romantic. No!
We had the most incredible time visiting in March before all the crowds and flowers but just after the snow.the hiking is incredibleThe vistas are peaceful and amazingtheres so much to do and so much to learnand so much to eat!! the food is fabulousso much so that if we had known how good the food is, we most likely would have chosen not to book the chefs table. The chefs table menu was lacking. it just wasnt the usual higher end food. for example, the amuse-bouche was basically a potato croquette. the sommelier seemed very nervous because she was shaking so badly and then she kind of made fun of me when I asked her to clean up the drops of wine she spilled; I found that a bit off putting. the dinner began at 6:00 but we were not served any food or wine until about 6:35.... and it went on so long that we missed events we wanted to attend. anticipate that you will be at the chefs table till at least 10:00.a special call out to a few really great servers.... Mordecai, Dominic and Annie.I dont think theres a more peaceful place to be!!!!the lecture about Broadway and Broadway photography was amazing!! thank you, Michael! The rooms are a little bit small but you know what they say. you dont spend a lot of time in your room.... the balconies cant be beat. we were in the back and the view of the lake was so relaxing.we cant wait to return!!!oh and the hiking trail with the guided meditation is a brilliant idea and brings a true zen into your world.
Review for Buffet lunch only:For $$$ per person: Abysmal options. Worst buffet ever. Heard it used to be great. But this is just so bad we had to leave a review in hopes that someone has the ability to improve it.Fish and Beef sliced incorrectly were Ice cold. I Had to ask the manager to heat it up.Only seafood option was cold Mahi Mahi no shrimp, no oysters, no clams, no crab legs, just cold Mahi in an uninspired saffron sauce. Nothing on the hot stations were hot.Glass of wine $18.00 is insane.Pasta station minimal options: spinach, chicken chunks from a can,tomatoes.. nothingHas to be one of the most uninspired brunches Ive ever been to.There were also flies and Nats that joined us.This restaurant needs a new manager or Gordon Ramsey. A mess. The only redeeming quality are their desert options. Clearly the pastry chef is the only one who enjoys their job. Mohonk really should be embarrassed to charge that amount of money. Folks would enjoy golden corral more. For the price of the buffet (our 3rd visit) they should be ashamed of themselves.
How a manager at Mohonk Mountain House, ruined our day with his rude manner and arroganceA warning to anyone who wants to visit this place and expects decent customer serviceWhat happened• My son and his girlfriend decided to visit Mohonk Mountain House for a date. My son also planned his proposal during this trip, he booked a dinner event and worked with an event planner for the proposal ideas. The event planner was very helpful.• The issue happened when we arrived in the morning, we were greeted properly but the assigned person (Diane) who was supposed to help us with the proposal setup was not there, after 30 min searching, we were told Diane was not available and there was no backup plan. Well, that’s a shock with only less than 90 min to the planned proposal time. So, we called for the managers help. This kind of outage was totally not acceptable and Diane is not a reliable professional (or even qualified as the professional).• Brian who claimed to be the manager showed up. He looked at us with disdain and he had no idea what’s going on and no patience to listen to our story. He apologized but no eye contact with an arrogant look like “why are you guys bothering me”.• He then made a few useless comments but was still not willing to patiently listen to us as every time we started the conversation, he became very defensive, and he’d interrupted us to tell us we were not right and repeated saying “how I can help”. Well, that’s exactly what we wanted to tell him the whole story and the plan if he just kept his mouth shut and listened. The worst came when my wife made her attempt to tell Brian the plan and Brian’s face turned very annoyed because by then he probably couldn’t figure out how to help us and he could not think of any good excuses not to help us. Then he just walked away when my wife was still talking to him. Really? Is this Mohonk’s new standard for customer service? Brian was not just arrogant, he was also very rude to a lady.• While Brian was gone, another nearby hotel guy Alec stepped in as he saw our frustration and offered his help, he put on a nice smile and very patiently listened to our story and the plan and walked with us to the planned proposal path. Alec then helped us with the photo spots and hiding spots and also volunteered to stay with us the entire time to help. Alec was super helpful and he really saved this important event! The evening dinner was also good.Mohonk is a nice place for events and most people are nice and great, but we know one bad apple spoils the bunch and Brian is one big bad apple, Brian must be removed if Mohonk wants to continue offering their premium event venue and services as Brian’s clueless, helpless, rude and arrogant personality has no place in the Hospitality industry (or any industries).
Let me start by saying I love Mohonk Mountain House and have been familiar with it since the early 1980s. While over the years we have often visited for lunch, hiking, had family gatherings there and even had my sisters wedding there, this past week is the first time my husband and I stayed there since the 1980s. (I found photos from 100+ years ago when my grandmothers family visited.) I have watched it get even better over the years but our autistic daughter caused us to not be able to stay overnight since the 1980s. She went into a group home so we were finally able to stay once again. My husband has food allergies which act like a contact allergy (similar to poison ivy). Bell pepper is extremely irritating to his digestive system even in a minute quantity. Something he ate set this off despite warning staff and trying to be very careful. This caused him to be out of commission so I did things by myself.I know I am not a foodie. I enjoyed the offerings for breakfast and lunch, but dinner was a problem for me. I found it hard to find something I really liked on the menu. I particularly had a problem with the Gemelli Bolognese. I very much like a bolognese so happily ordered it. I felt like I was eating a very spicy, mouth burning Mexican dish. I couldnt eat much of it and was VERY disappointed. It never listed any addition of heat and was NOT a nice surprise. The beds were wonderful. I enjoyed the antiques sprinkled through out the place. Staff was very friendly and helpful. It was so nice to see the care taken and familiarity with the place. I just wish if heat/red pepper were added to a dish or offering it was noted. (There was possible also a problem with bacon at breakfast since cut pieces could be bacon and some seemed to have a heat to it. This might have been what caused the problem for my husband.)
I was invited to a wedding at Mohunk Mountain House. I was happy to finally get there because it was highly recommended by a relative years ago. The place had the vibe of the hotel in the Steven King movie, the Shining. The wedding was held in the garden, the cocktail hour was held on the varenda overlooking the lake. Truly a beautiful view.We walked to the reception location up a short path, and it reminded me of an area camps would use for crafts and activities like that. The food was not good. Everyone seated at my table were very disappointed, some parts of the meals we could not even identify. The food was cold and tasteless, I think the only passable dish was the fish. Granted, this event space was not part of the main hotel but surely hot food should be served hot. After the wedding was over I did a quick tour of the hotel and I can definitely say that while it has its charm, it isnt for me. I kept thinking when are the 2 dead girls going to show up in a corridor, Red Rum materialize on the walls, or Jack Nickelson come after me with his axe. I also feel that it is overpriced.
This was a trip I will never forget. My husband and I went in November but there was still plenty to do despite the cold weather. Everything was just phenomenal… the food (delicious and accommodated my diet restrictions), the spa (best pedicure I’ve ever had), the room service (they come and build a fire in your room), the location itself (just absolutely stunning like something out of a fairy tale), the staff (so friendly and accommodating), the activities (hiking, ice skating, wood burning, swimming), the history (cannot believe this place has been around for 150 plus years). I cannot stress how worth it is to make your way to Mohonk even if it is for the day. Already looking forward to when we can go again.
Magnificent backdrop setting with a spiralling 155 year old historic resort meticulously preserved to original structure. Unlimited brunch has one of the best selections offered. Top notch service was only matched by the delicious options.Wonderful hiking to the peak and around the lake for endless photo opportunities. Ice skating and nearby skiing, Next will be the cliff scaling for beginners...
My experience at the Mohank Mountain House was exceptional. The resort offers a wide range of activities, including 80 miles of hiking trails, stunning mountain views, an ice skating rink, cozy sitting rooms, relaxing front porches, various recreational activities, a game room, a gym, and a pool/spa area. Additionally, there is a large activity schedule with guest lectures, wellness classes, hikes, movies, and more. The staff is very attentive and accommodating, ensuring a top-notch stay from the moment you arrive. The food is also superb, prepared by very talented chefs. I particularly enjoyed the coffee-maple glazed beef short rib. In the morning, there is a breakfast bar with just about anything you could ask for. Afternoon tea and cookies are also served daily at 4:00. The Mountain House is luxurious, yet they are not afraid to embrace their rich history. The only issue with the Mountain House is the extremely tiny room I stayed in. One night at this resort cost $650 in the middle of the week in March, which is far over-priced. For that rate, I was disappointed that the room I stayed in was barely bigger than the bed and didn’t even have a TV. My small room was nothing like the pictures on their website. Despite this, I found my time at the Mohank Mountain House to be very pleasant. With a plethora of activities available at the resort, youll hardly find yourself spending much time in your roóm. Whether its embarking on a scenic hike, attending informative lectures, partaking in lakeside activities, or plainly relaxing on their porch with a cup of tea, The Mohank Mountain House provides a memorable and delightful experience for people of all ages. I highly recommend a stay at the Mohawk Mountain House.
Overall, it was a good experience. Let me start saying that stuff was friendly, helpful, and kind, so shoot out to them. Its an all-inclusive resort which is good for one or two days then you would get bored of the food , same menus were served the days we stayed. The building has a lot of history, and its beautiful on the outside. The views are breathtaking the hotel architecture, the mountains, the lake all astonishing, and lots of things to do around the property. Itll be more fun to visit in the summer. The inside has a couple of interesting spaces other than that there isnt much to see, understandably. I meant its an old building, well maintained, yes, but the rooms werent spacious, the furniture was cheap (not old just bad quality), and I feel like the resort lacks modernity.Nice place to be once in a lifetime. Just dont stay longer than 2 days, and dont expect luxury.
First day here. Valet staff is super wonderful. But the noise is loud from a lot of kids running around, and it doesnt feel very restful like a spa should .Fitness classes are terrible- you shouldnt expect to get a good workout in. And you cant expect them to give you the class that was posted. The yoga instructor decides that she wasnt going to do the class listed and does something entirely different. Also they have very few classes here when compared to Canyon Ranch. If you are looking for a restful and relaxing vacation away from the real world DO NOT GO HERE. Go to Canyon Ranch in Lennox , MA. They have a significantly greater array of fitness classes and spa treatments. And it feels like a spa should - relaxing, peaceful, quiet...Also the rooms are old, and the food selection is not very varied. Definitely not as good as Canyon Ranch. The positives are valet staff, the food and location - it is pretty here!
I stayed here … don’t stay .. perhaps just go to dinner ( I ended up paying 2000 a night with New York room tax ) the good is that it is a beautiful location. The bad is the rooms are horrible, I had one with a broken toilet seat and a drain that would not drain ! It was so bad I’m going to call my CC because the moment you get there, they charge you for the entire amount you cannot come back and say you do not want to stay that’s how bad it is! What I found particularly egregious was the horse barn carriage ride situation we were coming up there specifically to do never running food feels like dorm. Food may be a step above. The whole thing just left me feeling so anxiety ridden and upset for $6000. I should have been happy. Do yourself a favor. Read this review and don’t go.
17th visit and we keep coming back. Love the vibe here, very historic, laid back. Great food, plenty of activities, excellent spa. MILES of hiking trails. Highly recommended.
Drove from NYC with the intention of seeing Mohonk Lake to find out that it is behind a paywall. $35 just to get into the park area which is a bit wild. On top of it, we were turned away because we had our dog with us. Never heard of an outdoor park not allowing dogs. Just disappointing
For day passes it’s unconscionable they don’t LOUDLY make obvious this is not Mohonk Preserve, which is at worst equally awesome for 40% the price. Entry is timed, so good luck coordinating with separately-ticketed friends.
Beautiful location thats easy to get to. Resort is gorgeous, food and service are good. Room is a little dated and cold. The grounds are breath taking. The building is very cool, some very skilled craftsmen built this gorgeous resort
Mohonk Mountain House is a terrific destination for a quick overnight getaway or family vacation. Depending on the season, there is a variety of activities for all age groups. However, if you are looking to just relax or slow down, there is no better place. The Spa amenities are world class. For those who enjoy the outdoors, there are miles of trails to explore. The Mohonk staff is always attentive, making you feel like you are their only guest.
Mohonk’s guest relations manager Brian, had such an egregiously low EQ and atrocious attitude that it is simply appalling he works in hospitality. My family and I have visited Mohonk before and always had a wonderful time. It was for this reason that my brother chose to plan his surprise proposal there for his girlfriend. On the day of 5/19, we had explicit instructions to meet Diane at noon to walk through the path, 90 minutes before the surprise was supposed to take place. However, when we showed up at 12 sharp, no one could find her. Alec Golden, a nearby employee, helped us look for her for 17 min. After 27 min, it was communicated that Diane would no longer be available for us, AT ALL.If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Ive now learned Mohonk operates under this motto.Hearing the news on Diane not showing up and that no one else had any of the notes my brother worked on with Regina, my dad asked to talk to the manager.Brian from the very beginning trudged his feet on the floor, looking acutely annoyed as if he would rather be any other place in the world than with us, even before anyone spoke a single word. My dad tried to explain the situation and communicate how upsetting this entire thing has been on supposedly one of the happiest family days, and Brian would not even listen, just kept interrupting my dad to haphazardly say “ok so how can I help” like a painful and overpriced broken record. My dad again tried to start from the beginning, and Brian switched his nauseating loop to say so it’s only a couple minutes past, whats the problem? Diane has very important guests that she had to tend to which means to me that (1) somehow 30 minutes has become “a couple”, (2) my time is not valued and (3) we are not “important guests”. Then he looped back to “OK so, how can I help”This is unacceptable for 2 reasons.1. You don’t ask a customer how to solve the problem that you caused; you bring your expertise to the table and you debug.2. As a manager, you take responsibility for your team’s mistakes. Artificial apologies without fixed behavior is called manipulation. “I’m sorry BUT” is called an excuse.- In the hospitality industry, I expected a very basic minimum bar be not only reached, but surpassed. With Brian, there was 0 heart, accountability for his job, integrity, collaboration, or basic human kindness. On top of all this, Brian never made eye contact with either of my parents or expressed any sort of genuine remorse for putting us through this ordeal, and then when my mom was in the middle of her sentence, he started walking away. I even tried smoothing things out to tell him “hey, this is a really stressful situation, I’m sorry if my parents voices are raised but you have to understand how big of a day this is for us, and we don’t want to ruin my brother’s surprise by being on the hiking path when they check in”. I know with 100% certainty that I held a respectful tone, and level volume. Even then, it did not change his aggravated and extremely rude demeanor.Alec who ironically is relatively new working at Mohonk, was the only one that showed empathy. Understanding how stressed and upset everyone was, he sprung into action, becoming the singular reason the proposal was saved. He read the documentation my brother sent us, quickly got up to speed, and physically walked with us to the path identifying new hiding spots to optimize around viewpoints and consideration for my mom and my brother’s girlfriend’s mom being in their 60s. HE was the epitome of care, de-escalation, proactivity, and execution that I would’ve expected Mohonk to employ as a gold standard, the shining light of the day.It is frustrating and absolutely heartbreaking to see my parents be bullied by such a small, ignorant man as Brian, who is supposedly representing a venue as nice as Mohonk. I sincerely hope Mohonk deeply reflects on its identity to evaluate the quality of service they provide. 1 poisonous individual is the most infectious virus, as the chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
We skated at the ice Pavilion and it was just beautiful! It was our 3rd time having a private party there and we appreciated the fireplace outside and the hot chocolate along with skating.Izzy and Ryan were very helpful and took excellent care of our group.9
The food is superb. The rooms are cozy. The service is excellent. There are activities for everyone. The place is beautiful.
Funny they don’t mention service. That was one of the most delightful aspects of this resort. Such a cool, funky and beautiful place.
Day trip with dinner. Beautiful heritage property tastefully updated. Wood paneled dining room overlooks woods and the Catskills Mtns in the distance.
Amazing getaway. Food is superb, so many activities, and the staff is wonderful.
I went to the spa. Ashley was amazing. They had to cancel my appointment due to staff shortage the same morning. I was initially upset that my partner and i wouldn’t be able to enjoy the day. Ashley heard my frustration and curated an amazing experience for us even though they had to cancel 10/10. The manager came and checked on us. We will be back!
We have visited Mohonk several times and most recently spent New Years weekend there. Yes, it is pricey but we found it to be well worth it every time. Our room was clean, quiet and comfy with an amazing view of the lake and the New Years fireworks. All of the food was delicious, especially the dinners (lunch and breakfast are buffets). All of the staff was friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed the guided hikes/walks and all of the live music and other New Years activities. We also appreciated that while the house retains its old-fashioned charms, they are constantly making upgrades such as installing more outlets in each rooms for all the devices we need to charge nowadays. We cant wait to come back!
Would have given you a five star if it wasnt for the room. For New Years Eve and a $2500 ticket per night. I expect the rooms to be clean. the drawers were filthy. broken cabinet door. non functional sink.In my not understanding what a tower room was I explained to the front desk that I was promised a view of the mountains. However I was on the first floor and my view was the parking lot. When I mentioned that to the front desk her answer was look up. I didnt think that was appropriate. As for the rest of my experience, I have to say everything else was very good. And my hats off too everyone at the main dining room. Excellent food and service. Excellent in every other aspect.
My first stay at Mohawk was enchanting. I had the pleasure of visiting with my sister and mother, who had previously been there during Thanksgiving last year, and we had an unforgettable time. The breathtaking location creates a serene and joyful atmosphere that makes for a truly relaxing experience. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Jamal greeted us during check-in and was warm, welcoming, and humorous. Our room was exquisitely appointed, offering views that were nothing short of spectacular. The dining staff were equally delightful, treating us like the only guests. Rodrigo, Mordicai, and Patricia were so friendly that we wished they could join us for every meal. The chefs at Mohawk are undoubtedly culinary artists, as the food was nothing short of divine. They catered to even the pickiest of eaters, like my mother. We also indulged ourselves in the Spa, which was a wonderful experience. Janice provided me with the best facial Ive ever had, and our conversation about our beloved pups made the facial even more fun. Nadine and Julie pampered my mother and sister, ensuring they had a memorable spa experience. I highly recommend the Spa.Of course, no family trip is complete without my sister losing her cell phone, but Luca and Russel came to the rescue like true superheroes. My overall experience at Mohawk was outstanding, and I eagerly look forward to my next visit. The staff at Mohawk goes above and beyond to ensure you have the best possible vacation experience. Its truly a magical place, and I highly recommend it.
$35 per person to visit hiking trails is a crime. The house, grounds, and surrounding trails are nice. It’s a shame someone’s greed undoubtedly will deter some from visiting.
A very special place. My mom worked there during WWII. Celebrated V-E Day with the Smiley family. The only time they allowed dancing back then, according to her.
I’ll start off by saying what I did like about Mohonk — yes, the nature aspect is beautiful and the views are immaculate. The massage I received at the spa was nice. The row boats were fun. The staff was very friendly and the the food did not disappoint… Unfortunately, everything else did.The fact that this “luxury resort” is charging $1200 a night for the accommodations they provide is absolutely criminal. The rooms are musty, outdated and our shower even had mold. We paid extra for a room with a covered balcony, knowing that this weekend’s forecast would bring rain. Well, our covered balcony did not shield us from any rain at all and it was simply unusable. No TV either. Stained carpet all throughout. The dining area is more comparable to a cafeteria and there is only one bar in the entire place, oh and alcohol is not apart of their “all inclusive” offering! While there are at least two hundred guest rooms, the majority of their far and few between included daily activities have a hard limit of fifteen people.Clearly I have a bit of buyers remorse. I expected to be whisked away into a lavish weekend, but found that it is more so just elevated glamping. Save your coin and stick with a day pass, I urge you.
Went day for a spa day with my wife, it was one of the best spa experiences. Highly recommend, cant wait to go back
The last most memorable time I was at Mohonk was in late August 2011 when Hurricane Irene hit. Because of the excessive flooding, we just couldnt get out. Guest Services made a special trip to the pharmacy in town to get refill on BP medication for my friend before they closed the road. We had to book extra nights due to the storm, but we got a good discount. The sun came out for a little bit one day and we decided to walk up to Sky top. Everything was fine for a while and so beautiful, but we thought we were going to be blown off the hill at the very top! We walked really fast back down to the mountain house! It was an adventure for sure. The horse back riding was the only disappointment as the horses were made to walk very slow. But I hope to come again at some point, and loved the rosemary/mint shampoo, lotion, etc. I order from little giftshop often, and they send it out very quickly each time. The food was amazing, unbelievable chef talent exhibited. I loved the sugar free chocolate mousse which was so rich and creamy, I wouldnt have though it was sugar free. I love the cute little stuffed animal also that you get delivered to your room if you have a second or third visit. I got the best foot massage ever at the spa. My feet didnt ache for a month!
This is a beautiful, postcard worthy location. I have been visiting here since childhood. I grew up across the Hudson. I was quite disappointed however with their brunch. I booked a reservation for 6. It cost nearly $600.00! It is simply not worth it! The food here could have been found at any restaurant or hotel serving a breakfast buffet. The service was adequate. I imagine the selling point is the day pass and access to the porch. It is simply not worth it.Their website reads, “Complete your brunch experience with a Mohonk Mimosa, Bloody Mary, or cocktail from our full bar at an additional cost.” We asked for Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas and were told that they do not serve anything from the bar! I was incredibly disappointed, as were the rest of our party.I would rate this experience with 2 stars if it were not for the grounds. I simply do not recommend brunch in the main room at Mohonk Mountain house. That was a difficult sentence to write, as I have wonderful memories from many years ago. Save your money and buy a day pass.
Our 21st visit with our two sons. We come every year at the same time. The food is outstanding, the grounds are gorgeous and I especially love the gardens. This particular year I want to compliment the spa massage therapist Kate and the Esthetician Jan. Both were knowledgeable, friendly, and made sure it was a great experience. Diane and the other spa staff are always accommodating as well. And you can use the lounge area all day if you are a spa guest. Highly recommend.
Gorgeous location! Comfortable rooms with daily service. Staff is friendly and helpful. The trails offer beautiful views and scenery. Many activities are included. Breakfast and lunch are delicious. The spa services are heavenly and the spa staff is delightful. Plenty of places to relax and enjoy the sights.
My recent visit to Mohonk Mountain House was nothing short of enchanting. Nestled against the stunning backdrop of the Shawangunk Mountains, this historic resort seamlessly blends luxury with natural beauty. From the moment I arrived, the impeccable service stood out. The staffs warm welcome and attention to detail created an atmosphere of genuine hospitality. The grandeur of the Victorian castle-like structure only added to the sense of stepping into a bygone era, yet with all the modern comforts one could desire. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the breathtaking views. Whether enjoying a meal in the elegant dining room or relaxing on the expansive verandas, every vantage point offered panoramic scenes of the pristine lake and lush surrounding forests. The carefully manicured gardens and walking trails further enhanced the sense of tranquility.Mohonks commitment to outdoor activities impressed me. Hiking the scenic trails, theres something for everyone. The knowledgeable guides and instructors added a personal touch, ensuring that each experience was both enjoyable and enriching. In conclusion, Mohonk Mountain House is a true gem, providing a perfect blend of old-world charm and contemporary luxury. Whether seeking adventure in nature or simply desiring a serene escape, this historic resort exceeds expectations on every front, leaving me with cherished memories and a longing to return.
Great place with a lot of history. The lake and mountain are beautifully stunning. The hike to SKy Top was amazing. Very clean, great food, great service. We are definitely going back in the summer.
The setting is stunning! I couldn’t get over how beautiful the landscape was. Wow! Absolutely loved swimming across the lake and walking in the woods. The Lily Pond was like a Monet painting. The food is mediocre and the building needs an update. The spa was really nice. Though it was a little weird when the maintenance men came around to service the hot tub while we were relaxing out there.Wonder if there’s anything that can be done about the bees around the Granary. It was really unpleasant to eat out there. The Mentalist John Graham was fantastic. The band called Smiley Cyrus was not good at all and we had to flee when they started playing.Overall a great place for a family gathering for a long weekend where everyone can eat together and there’s something for everyone to do of all ages.
Incomparably unique experience. Part of its character is an aging structure. Great for long, leisurely meals. Prepare to unwind and escape from the hustle, bustle. Unplug. Great hiking. Great for families. Stay a weekend or a week. Sadly, its hard to secure a relaxing spa appointment.
Beautiful place with ultra friendly staff. Food was way above what I was expecting. Looking forward to coming again to do some cross country skiing.Take care on the road up to the fantastic view as its narrow
Food average. Not compared to SkyTop hotel. Boring nights no activity.Secluded bar limitedWalked around looking for something to doNo TV No frigerator in roomI felt steep price for this hotelOld and moldy smell
Great location, great view, historical building good place for exclusive stay. The service is good, but the quality of food is very disappointing, very overpriced for its quality.
This place was the tale of two hotels. Upon check-in, I was really caught off guard by how rude the 3 of the staff members were. No one gave us a list of activities, told us where to go, and when we arrived around 3:00pm they told us our room wasnt ready but then called us 5 minutes later saying it was. Their attitude and greeting felt like we were bothering them, and the folks behind us mentioned they felt the same way. We were also 7 minutes late for archery (we didnt realize it was a 5 minute walk to get there) and the gentlemen was quite rude, saying we couldnt participate because his insurance wouldnt cover him since we werent there for the safety briefing. It would have been nice if he could have offered to review the safety briefing for a second time. I realize that is slightly annoying for him, but when you are at a high end expensive resort, these are the kind of things one would appreciate especially since archery does not appear in the schedule often. The service did get better, the lady serving tea was lovely and the property / lake / views are gorgeous. Rooms were a bit older, but they were nice with pretty views. The place is cool, very historic, but the two incidences of poor customer service kind of ruined it for us.
We had a great time. The staff was amazing. What a unique and beautiful experience. Thank you!
Trip of a lifetime. Came for my sisters wedding. Its a beautiful location. I didnt know until I was told by a relative that Stephen King had stayed here and thats where he got the motivation for The Shining. It was an interesting first night sleeping here but I got more comfortable as the weekend went on. You will enjoy the stay and the activities. Definitely need more than a weekend to enjoy everything. I didnt get to do the Archery so maybe next time.
After coming down with an illness days before my visit, Mary could not have been nicer helping me reschedule my stay with them for about 1 week later. The food was wonderful, the views spectacular, staff were very kind and helpful, and activities were numerous and well-organized. I had a fantastic time and cannot wait to return! The only critique I can offer is that I wish the bathroom had had a fan to turn on while using.
We had a fantastic time at Mohonk and will very likely return. A word to the wise when making your reservation, be aware that you must make dining reservations for all meals if you intend to eat in the dining room. According to the dining room staff, they only take reservations 30 days out. When you receive an email asking you to click on a link to make dining reservations, please include your name, dates you will be dining, and your preferred times for dining. If you try to do this on your phone, the message may be truncated and you will need to do it from your computer. Mentioning this because we had a bit of a miscommunication regarding this process and ended up with less than desirable dining times. We appreciate that the staff, in particular Lisa, helped accommodate our preferred dining times despite the last minute requests. Wed also like to thank Mark from the dining room and Jenny from the spa for helping to make our stay all that more pleasurable by taking such good care of us.
Our family spent magnificent time at Mohonk. It was challenging to enjoy all the available activities with a toddler but we managed to get most of it. Trails with different difficulty level kept the active part of our family busy. The little one was so happy about the lake beach and playing in the sand with other kids. Our 10 year old was busy catching salamanders in the lake. The man of the family was on the mission to catch some fish and the lake had a lot fish to offer. Fish feeding was fun for everyone. Horses, boats, mini golf, music, campfires, inside pool, billiard, and list goes on and on what to do. Our rooms were cozy with beautiful views. Service was excellent, everything was taken care of by the service members. The restaurants were great! No long wait to be seated and served with drinks. It was nice to have menus rotate in the main dining room and all the dishes were so tasty. They definitely carry a lot of healthy options when it comes to food and it’s easy to match gluten free diet and vegetarian or vegan diet. It was amazing to have lunch at the Granary as it’s located right above the lake beach and you can enjoy your food over the lake. The only thing I’d suggest for improvement is the playground area as it seems very empty and not as attractive to the kids.
Our first, and not our last, experience at Mohonk. What a spectacular location. Our room was very comfortable, and every meal is a 5-star dining experience! So many activities to choose from and everything so well executed. Cant say enough about the staff, the food, the whole Mohonk experience. We loved it! I only wish they offered a tour/meet & greet of the kitchen and kitchen staff. Truly amazing what they accomplish in a day! Thank you Mohonk for a memorable 3 days!
Outstanding. My experience at this family run resort nestled in the Shawagunk mountains was nothing short of spectacular. With 85 miles of hiking trails (from easy to hard), a classic beautiful old build with modern amenities, my time here was exactly the kind of unplug and getaway from it all vacation I wanted. The trails are beautiful and accessible and worth spending time on to take in the gorgeous views to be had. The rooms, and the hotel itself, are decorated like its the 1800s. Dark wood, warm colors, comfy chairs, and fireplaces are everywhere. Rooms have balconies that either face the forest or the mounatins. The views are stunning. There is no TV. You dont need one.The food in the main dining room is spectacular. Whether you get something Creative, innovative or something simple and comforting, it is all delicious. The spa is first rate, and the pool is a nice diversion. Some of the folks we spoke with have been coming regularly for over 20 years and I see why. I am already planning my return and Im eagerly looking forward to it.
I have been both a guest at Mohonk and an avid hiker of all the surrounding trails. The entrance fee to hike outside of the main entrance is $15. If you want to get a day hiker pass from the main entrance then its $35 (as of July 2023).I recommend hiking outside of the main entrance if youre physically capable. The hike from Eagle Cliff to Lemon Squeeze is great. You can also tie in Labyrinth and Sky Top into the same hike about 6-7 miles. Its a great workout. As for the mountain house I stayed on a separate occasion. It is EXPENSIVE, especially depending when you book. The price includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a dining hall. The gratuities, events, and exploring the property. Rooms are average but takes nothing from the experience as most of your time is spent outdoors or enjoying amenities.Staff is professional and service is exceptional. They are always around working in the background but never bothering your experience. Have nothing but positive things to say about every employee Ive encountered. As for the mountain and house itself theyre both gorgeous and its a unique experience in the heart of upstate NY. I wish the rooms were more affordable but it is what it is. If you love the outdoors and want a great time give mohonk mountain house a visit, you wont be disappointed.
Обожаю это место, невероятно красиво в разные сезоны года, сохранившийся дизайн интерьера отеля окунет ваш немного в прошлое, всевозможные развлечения на территории не дадут вам заскучать.Безусловно стоит приехать сюда(Translated by Google)I love this place, it’s incredibly beautiful in different seasons of the year, the hotel’s preserved interior design will immerse you a little in the past, all kinds of entertainment on site will not let you get bored.Definitely worth coming here
My recent stay at Mohonk Mountain House left me with a myriad of emotions, most of which are negative and disappointing. While I cant deny the historical beauty of the hotel and its stunning grounds, I cant help but feel that the experience fell far short of the exorbitant price I paid for it.Lets start with the positives - the hotel itself is undeniably historic and beautifully maintained, with exquisite attention to detail throughout. The food was decent, particularly dinner, which was the only meal that offered a menu. Unfortunately, both breakfast and lunch were relegated to buffets. Now, heres where the experience took a nosedive. The service left much to be desired, and on multiple occasions, it was downright terrible. When we arrived, our room wasnt ready, so we decided to have lunch at the buffet. During our meal, my partner and I decided to treat ourselves to mimosas, which were not included in the buffet and came at an additional cost. Shockingly, the waiter presented the bill at the same time as the drinks, almost as if he feared we would skip out on paying. When I inquired about the early bill and expressed interest in ordering another round, he disappeared, never to return. We had to track him down to settle the bill. After a picturesque hike, we were finally informed that our room was ready. However, our room (058) left much to be desired. It had a dated feel, and the view was obstructed by a bush, rendering any hope of seeing the lake pointless. To make matters worse, the bed was horribly uncomfortable. It was so soft that my partner and I felt like we were sinking towards the middle, and I woke up with back pain the next morning. The final straw was the tea and cookies service, available daily from 4 pm to 5 p.m. It was a charming idea, but when I arrived at 4:10 pm, the setup was incomplete, and people were already in line. When it was finally my turn to grab a cookie, I was yelled at, yes, yelled at, for reaching out prematurely. It was a humiliating experience, with a room full of witnesses. I promptly left the room and sought out the concierge, expressing my disbelief that, for a staggering $1,400 per night, I was scolded overreaching for cookies that probably cost them $20.Mohonk charges upfront when you make a reservation, and now I understand why. If I hadnt already paid, we likely would have left.Reading through other reviews, its clear that my experience with poor service isnt an isolated incident. They seem to believe that staying at Mohonk is an honor, but I firmly believe that genuine hospitality should be extended to all guests.Im not someone who shies away from paying for a premium experience, but this was far from it. Im still reeling from the embarrassment of being berated. Its truly unbelievable. Mohonk Mountain House should take a lesson from more modest establishments, where they genuinely appreciate your patronage.
Booked a lunch reservation & took a day trip not knowing how much wed instantly love this place. What a relaxing day of light hiking & boating and just enjoying the relaxing sounds of nature without the usual hustle and bustle. Didnt even see or hear a single airplane or any highway noise. And not surprisingly, lunch & service were also excellent. Hope to go back real soon!
This was such a great experience. I really thought the rooms were quaint and simple but in a good way. The lack of TV in the rooms was amazing as there is so much to do at the resort that you dont need a TV. The fire places were a nice touch. The coffee and tea were nice and the dining was great. I can not speak highly enough about the lunch spread. The trails and activities were really very nice and its great that they let you continue to use the property after your check out. This is a fantastic experience. On the rock scramble we met Kip, the grandson of one of the founders (if I recall correctly) and he was such a nice helpful guy. We kept running into him throughout our stay and he was very friendly.
I love this place. The staff are great, the food is good (and vegan friendly!), and the woods are amazing. I spent hours running and hiking through the woods and still have so much to see.
Mohonk Mountain House is spectacular! The scenery is breathtaking....the staff is excellent and so is the food. My only four star experience was how small our room was....but we could live with it. The rooms are expensive but they have wonderful breakfasts and brunch. We were there for a wedding...so Im not sure if our dinners were for the wedding or for all the people and families.
The Mohonk Mountain House, nestled in the scenic Shawangunk Mountains of New York, offers a blend of nature, relaxation, and tradition. The sprawling estate is notable for its Victorian architecture, which provides a nostalgic backdrop to the modern amenities available to guests. It’s a bit expensive but the experience is worth it.The natural beauty surrounding the mountain house is undisputed. Visitors often marvel at the tranquil ambiance, which is enhanced by the meticulously maintained gardens and trails. The view from the Sky Top Tower, a signature attraction, is described as breathtaking, offering a panoramic view of the Hudson Valley. For those with a fondness for the outdoors, the hiking trails and rock scrambling are often cited as a major draw.I highly recommend you visit at least once in a life time.
Headline: WOULDNT RETURN, BUT VERY GLAD WE DID IT ONCE.The weather is critical to enjoying your stay. Its not worth going for anything less than sunshine. (We stayed for 4 days, with 2 days of rain, and it was a completely different experience across all elements of the hotel). The rooms are perfectly average. The beds are sub-par (make sure you book a massage at the spa). The hiking and tennis courts are the main attractions. Activities are 100% dependent on weather (i.e. anything less than sunshine = all activities cancelled). The staff are a bi-modal distribution of either excellent or terrible, and the service reflects that.Breakfast is the best meal by far, and though the restaurant quality doesnt justify the price point for room and board overall, there are a few dishes that are absolutely excellent. Any decent restaurant should be benchmarked on their ability to cook a steak, and they dont disappoint in that regard.
Spa is the best part of the venue. Overall setting is beautiful, mountains, lake but facility is dated and it’s a family hotel so kids running and yelling detracts from it being a place of relaxation.
If you stay in your room and dont take advantage of the amenities or activities you will feel like you overpaid. We stayed a weekend and even though foggy and rainy enjoyed every minute of it. Food was phenomenal, grounds are serene, staff is welcoming. I would recommend calling to find out the different dining options and activities before your stay so you can setup a schedule and take advantage of all they have to offer. This is a get up and move kinda place and requires a bit more scheduling than your average beach vacation. My only recommendation would be to provide the classes in a larger room so more than 15 guests can attend and ensure that all staff is aware of the requirements as we were told we didnt have to sign up but another staff member told us we did once we were at the door.
My husband and I spent a few days here and were highly impressed with the beautiful scenery all around us. The fall foliage was in full swing with vibrant colors all around. We took the path to the sky top tower at sunrise and the view was breathtaking. The staff was incredibly friendly and seemed to genuinely remember us everyday. The host of the dining hall was particularly pleasant and made us feel welcomed. There are plenty of activities to choose from daily. We signed up for tomahawk throwing and were thrilled to be in such a small group. We got to spend the entire 45 mins throwing and the instructor guides us the entire way. The frisbee golf course is also a must if youre a fan. The course is challenging but fun! We also indulged in high tea (for an extra cost) and it was well worth it. Delicious sandwiches and extras. The carriage ride is another highlight, taking us around the ground and stopping at the most scenic spot. The carriage driver was incredibly knowledgeable about the history. All in all, we had a wonderful experience! Oh and the cheesecake cannot be topped. Smooth, creamy and delicious.
Came here for brunch and a walk on the grounds. Its a buffet, but its notably delicious buffet food. Unfortunately, we didnt realize until the end of the meal that espresso drinks were not included in the price. The hike to the tower at the top of the hill was charming and beautiful - you get plenty of nice views of the house and the surrounding landscape. But its hard to say that any of these things justify the extraordinary price.
Mohonk Mountain House is awesome, very much worth the visit. Dinner was delicious 😋We went when school was on a winter break and there a ton of parents and children.
We visited Mohonk for our anniversary, Sept.24th and stayed the night. The weather was terrible, but the staff made us feel comfortable and they were very welcoming. The valet staff, even, helped us with a car mishap we encountered on the road getting there. A bottle of wine and a beautiful basket of goodies was sent to our room for our anniversary. What a surprise and treat. The Sunday Brunch and anniversary dinner were excellent. The food was delicious and the service was great! A big thank you to Matthias at the front desk ,Carlos ,our waiter, and Scott, for the Spa treatment, and all the staff for making our anniversary celebration special, even though, it rained all weekend. Had so much fog we couldnt enjoy the outside activities was our only regret.
This was my first resort visit out of the state of Michigan. I thought Mich was impressive but New York was just as stunning. This resort was amazing. The food was outstanding (wish there was a cookbook available). The service and accommodations were equally impressive. Well worth the drive and cost. I will defiantly return.
We took our 2 daughters up to Ive skate with a local Girl Scout troop. Beautiful scenery and the facilities are amazing!
Booked a dinner reservation here to celebrate a birthday. Pre-paid around $300 for two. Based on reviews and the website we dressed and prepared for a somewhat elegant experience. What we got was no difference than what you would expect from an Olive Garden type restaurant. Food and as good, not blown away. There were kids running around screaming in the restaurant and people were walking in wearing swim wear shorts and ripped jeans. Made it feel more like a diner in the country.Views are stunning, hotel is historic and might just be better to go to if you have your family. Not for couples to enjoy a relaxing or romantic get away.Would definitely recommend a place like gurneys over here. Would not recommend booking the dinner reservation unless you bring your kids.
My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Mohonk, and we couldnt have chosen better. Upon arriving, we were graciously upgraded to a nicer room than we had booked, which was such a pleasant surprise. Lauren at the front desk was so helpful in showing us the upcoming days events and for making suggestions as to trails to hike during our stay. The food was superb; the menu is well varied so theres no problem having a novel dining experience. Jamal, the maître d, was one of the highlights of our trip; he was so welcoming and personable each time we went to eat. Likewise, we had a great time hiking with the naturalist Michael, and we learned a ton about the environment of the hotel/preserve from him.Maybe the most fun I had was the Labyrinth/Lemon Squeeze hike; about midway through, you reach a relatively non-technical section where you can exit the trail via a staircase, and if you have any fear of heights or smaller spaces, I think this is the place to stop because the last leg of the hike is assuredly not for the faint of heart! We had so many more experiences that were magic, I could go on for paragraphs. We cant wait to visit again.
First time here and seeing the Catskill mountains and everything was breathtaking! Rooms clean and comfortable. Staff up to light fire in fireplace when requested. You want for nothing here. Food out of this world delicious. Plan on gaining a good 5 lbs. A night. Carriage ride fun and informative. Swimming closed as it is late in season. Trees not changing yet which was a little disappointing. Tons of sitting areas to relax, read, play games, have a drink or meditate. Tons of activities all included. Cant say enough positive things about this gem of a spot and establishment. Two suggestions. Put coffee makers in the rooms. Coffee only served 6 am to 6 pm on the first floor, I personally like a coffee as soon as I awaken which is usually 4 am. The other suggestion was to fix the balcony, it was in disrepair causing a trip hazard. I did bring this to the suggestion of management and a work order was created immediately. Love this place, definitely will be coming back
Amazing experience. The staff there was super nice and accommodating. Such a stress free place. Im already planning my next trip with my family
This was about as peaceful and friendly place as I could imagine. Great views, wonderful staff, and absolutely pristine rooms. A good amount of outdoor activities, trails, and a beautiful lake to boat or fish. The classic architecture of the late 19th and early 20th century was stunning, along with all the photos on display showing the history of Mohonk. The food was good, with lots of choices, well prepared and the desserts were top notch.Simply a fantastic resort and I would most certainly visit again.
Beautiful place. So serene and peaceful. I have no complaints about this place. Only thing that made me nervous 😬 was the 2 miles of winding road to get up there. But I made it! 🙏🏼I have to add to use their spa amenities! I had a massage. I took a yoga (private class) and a private meditation session. Wish I had more time to add a facial! Make sure to make your reservations way in advance! I wish I did! And I made mine a week in advance. Two dining areas for breakfast lunch and dinner. Food is delicious. The general store is amazing. Something for everyone! Workers are amazing people! So make sure you plan this trip ahead of time so you can relax and enjoy the whole experience! There’s also a pool. Sauna and hot tub. No TV in the bedrooms. I was a little surprised at first, but I understood it….. this is a place to retreat. Restart. Reset. Calmness. I’d love to come again in the future with my husband and stay longer and enjoy the time.

Mohonk Mountain House is a very special place. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and made amazing memories scrambling through the lemon squeeze, climbing in the Gunks, boating on the lake, and simply watching the clouds roll by from a few different summerhouses. Connecting with other guests and the staff, especially Jamaal in the Main Dining Room, Lauren at the Front Desk, and Michael the Naturalist, was a highlight of our stay. The food was wonderful, the activities were bountiful, and the grounds and nature preserve are astounding! We can’t wait to return in another season!
Mohonk Mountain House is a unique experience. The historic building built in the 1800s transports us to another era. It is easy to relax and let go. The hiking and rock scrambles that go on for miles are gorgeous, exhilarating, and fun. The glacier lake is cold and refreshing. If you don’t want to get in, you can paddle around on a rowboat, canoe, kayak or paddle board. The food is presented beautifully, prepared well and very tasty. Mohonk is a special experience. The staff is great. They are very friendly and very helpful.
Ive never stayed at the mountain house but Ive hiked in the area for many years and it is always stunning once you start seeing the house in the distance. Amazing property and amazing land around it. If you have the means, stay there, Im too cheap to justify the cost of the rooms but they are beautiful and Im sure worth it.
In all fairness, we did not stay at Mohonk, but we never will! It was en route for our weekend getaway. We drove there thinking it would be nice to explore the grounds and grab lunch not realizing reservations were required for entry. The young girl at the front entrance couldn’t have been more impolite and unwelcoming. After letting her know we did not have a reservation, I asked if simply having lunch/exploring for a future stay was possible. Her overall demeanor was condescending from the start when she rolled her eyes at my husband, and in fact, her response was “I just said no!”One would think she’d kindly explain the procedure and welcome us back as potential future guests rather than speak to us as unwanted, misbehaved children. I don’t care how beautiful the setting nor the accommodations are, we travel frequently, and I would never spend a dime to step foot in this place. Unbelievably unprofessional.
OMG. My favorite getaway. Old world charm. Scrumptious food. Luxurious spa. Loads of activities. Breathtaking gardens. Actual wood burning fireplace in my room complete with attendant to light it for me! And did I mention their own lake with boating, paddle boarding, canoeing, swimming? What about the hot tub and pool? Can’t beat it!
Beautiful property! The lake behind the hotel is incredible. Delicious brunch.
Went up here today on a day pass for hiking. The property is absolutely beautiful and well taken care of. 1000’s of beautiful acreage out in middle of nowhere with nothing but sounds of nature. The views are just freaking gorgeous. Me and my son did the labyrinth and lemon squeeze trail. What’s a damn adventure that was , will definitely be coming again sooon. I can’t really speak to the hotel or conference center or any of that because we do not stay there but my intention is to stay there in the next month when we come back again. If you’re looking for a beautiful place to hike trails were very well. Marked property was well taken care of plenty of parking then you should definitely put this on your list
The only negative aspect of our visit was the terrible service in all of the dining venues. Moreover, the servers and, whats worse, the managers had absolutely no training in customer service. At a group event dinner with pre-selected menu, we had to wait EXACTLY an hour after ordering for the appetizers to come out. Some hot dishes came out cold. Steaks came out without knives. Soups, in the main dining room, came without spoons, and, after asking a passing waitress for the spoons, she rudely responded I will tell your server. By the time the spoons finally came, the soups were cold and had to be sent back. Managers had no idea how to rectify any of the issues that we encountered and provided only excuses that made no sense. In all, I rank the food and beverage service 1 star, with the exception of the service at the Carriage Lounge, whose bartenders were very accommodating and did a great job.
Absolutely breathtaking, food was amazing and staff were very pleasant
This is a beautiful place and a relaxing atmosphere and I stress relaxation. The grounds are beautiful and the food is exactly what I rated 3 stars. It’s above average for sure but absolutely not worth $2,000 a night. For the available options of activities which were barely any, and food there is no justification for pricing except they are gouging customers. Sadly, as beautiful and historic it will never again be on my recommendation list until their prices match what they deliver.
What a treasure. We had such a great time. Yes, you’re going to pay a lot for either a day (not hiking) pass, or an overnight, but you will get your money’s worth. She did a spa treatment and raved about it. We walked the grounds and house for a good portion of the day. The lake was enjoyable, we even found paths that were rarely taken that lead to spectacular views. The main dining was nice, good food and better views. Exceptional staff. Will definitely be doing this again.
Day pass for hiking trails.I just bought the $35 day pass for the hiking trails as the minimum night stay wasnt going to work with my travel plans. The hike to sky top tower was the gem. It took me 1 hour and 15 minutes from the hiking trail parking lot. Trails are well maintained smooth gravel. There are several huts/overlooks perched on the Cliffside offering some amazing views of the lake and Mohonk Mountain House and giving you a spot to relax on the way up. The tower is open and allows you to climb to the top. There are picnic tables and a great spot to relax, enjoy the breeze and views. I skipped the Labrynth, but the fox trail offered a more aggressive trail than the gravel paths.I thought it was worth the $35 day pass for the hiking trails.
6 stars for the grounds, 4 for the food (delicious with great friendly service but overpriced). Didnt stay overnight.
Spectacular historic hotel located on a beautiful lake. Fantastic hiking and water activities. The food is gourmet cuisine and the service is impeccable. Not your typical vacation spot but thats what makes it so unique.
It is always one of the most wondrous places to go! Weve gone about 12 times over the years for vacation and today we were there as a group just for lunch. We arrived about 1:30 PM and as we sat, waters were brought to the table. Upon going to the buffet, most items were already gone, I asked when the items would be brought out and they said in a few minutes, as 20 minutes went by and food was still not brought out. Our water glasses were never refilled and we had a hard time finding someone to bring us a coffee. To pay about a $100.00 a person for lunch and to get leftovers at 1:30 in the afternoon was very disappointing and I dont think I would return unfortunately, maybe its better to arrive at noon??
I work in a business where customer service is very important. I have never written a google review until today. I know how damaging they can be to a companies image but what we dealt with was completely unacceptable.I came with my two friends 2 hours away to come to this trail because we saw how beautiful it was. Unfortunately our trip came short when we were faced with the staff. My friend went a centimeter across the stop sign by accident and the girl decided to scream her head off. Was beyond rude to her and started berating her about not following directions. On top of that had an attitude and rolled her eyes multiple times talking down on us and made us feel completely unwelcome. She then gave us a QR code to buy tickets to enter the trail and told us to pull over to the side. Keep in mind she did not mentioned which side. Her unclear directions cause to pull over to wrong side of the road. We then were screamed a second time for pulling over…..After all that we ultimately decided that our experience with Naomi was not worth paying $105. If you are planning on coming here AVOID NAOMI AT ALL COST because she’s rude, disrespectful and needs to work on her customer service skills. We headed over to another trail 5 min down the road. Had the best hiking experience and amazing customer service. Save your money and do not come here.
This is a gem! If youve got the cash, whisk you and your partner away to a very relaxing weekend. So peaceful, great food! The spa is outstanding. Literally the best facial Ive ever received.
This is a really lovely place. While the prices of the rooms might seem high, it’s actually a good value because it includes meals and many activities that are often expensive, including golf, tennis, kayaking, paddle boards, etc. There is a wonderful lake with “lake toys” you can use free and amazing hiking trails.
Mohonk Mountain House is a historic resort located in New Paltz, New York, that offers a wide range of accommodations, activities, and amenities. The property is situated in a beautiful natural setting and features guest rooms, suites, and cottages that are well-appointed and comfortable. One of the standout features of Mohonk Mountain House is its excellent service.Mohonk also boasts a wide range of activities and amenities, such as hiking trails, a spa, a golf course, Ice Skating pavilion in the winter, and a lake for swimming and boating all surrounded by nature in all its beauty! As for food and dining options, I cannot rave enough about the quality and variety of the meals. However, the property can be quite expensive. As for its aesthetic—I personally love the old fashioned and vintage style of Mohonk. I enjoy the lack of TVs in the room, though that may be important to note for some.Additionally, the property can be crowded during peak season, so make sure you take that into account when booking your stay!Overall, Mohonk Mountain House is a wonderful destination for those looking for a luxurious and relaxing getaway in a beautiful natural setting nestled within the mountains. With its excellent service, wide range of activities and amenities, and comfortable accommodations, its easy to see why guests return to this historic resort time and time again.
If you love nature, this is your spot. This magical mountaintop resort in the Hudson Valley is where I go to recharge. More than 85 miles of hiking trails and outstanding cuisine coupled with a world class spa are the perfect antidote to a crazy world. Sitting on a rocking chair on the porch, looking out at the lake and listening to the birds sing is my version of nirvana. A must do and a much needed vacation for the times..
Absolutely one of our favorite places to visit! Always have a wonderful time here when we stay. Our last visit was for Christmas. And although there were some significant issues with one of our rooms, it was addressed and handled beyond our satisfaction. Thanks to the incredible management at Mohonk.Beyond this, the atmosphere here is incredible. Norman Rockwell vibes. You feel like youre far away, in another time and place, but really only a couple of hours away from home.I honestly cannot say enough about their cuisine! EXCELLENT!! 5 ⭐sStaff is wonderful.Stays here are inclusive, so most everything is included in your stay, including most activities and even gratuity. (alcoholic beverages are not included)The spa is amazing and definitely worth visiting! (not included)Best time to visit, imo, is the Fall. (October) Stunning views with the beautiful fall foliage is breathtaking. Plus, the weather then is still pleasant enough where you can enjoy everything Mohonk has to offer.I honestly cannot recommend Mohonk Mountain House enough!*Pictures are from Fall and Summer*
We booked a Sunday brunch for my fathers 90th Birthday per his request. The food was delicious but for the price, we were hoping for something a little more intimate, maybe tablecloths? We also requested if we could get a table somewhat close to the windows. Instead, we got a table next to the cannoli table where our views were of peoples back side. For $135 per person, you can do better than that Mohonk.
Just got back from Mohonk Mountain House last week and just wanted to give my thoughts. First, it is one of the most beautiful resort I think I have ever been to. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous. We are a retired couple who have travelled and cruised often and have been trying to get to Mohonk for a few years.First, the room was very nice, with a sunset balcony . Wi-Fi but no TV which was fine.Entertainment was very limited. Everything is included, all activities, food, tips and their 9 hole golf course, again absolutely beautiful but very hilly and very difficult, but very enjoyable.Mohonk might be a great place for families, groups, hikers, (many hiking trails) but not for us.But what bothered was for the amount of money it cost a night, the food was average at best. Maybe I just expected a little more fine dining, but the menu and food was just ok, and a little disappointing . The breakfast was a buffet and nothing special. Service was always very good..I guess for the amount of money Mohonk cost I just expected a little more.
On 07.25.23, we did a day pass at Mohonk Mountain House, our first time there. The property is amazing and the lunch was excellent! It was a very rainy day and we had the opportunity to interact with Diane Ippolito, Concierge, regarding general questions and our interest in a return visit. She was exceptional in her friendliness, efficiency and customer focus. Staff like Diane is the difference between a visit and an experience. Thanks Diane for being so welcoming!
I probably set my expectation too high, but then the price tag is there. The valet guys were fine, but the front desk (05/04) were rude;Dinner (three course) was good, but then the waiter was rather unprofessional. Never clean the bread crumbs for us, and ignored our meal brought by the kitchen staff for a good 5 mins, to the point even the kitchen staff became impatient. Breakfast good, disappointed buffet lunch. The mountain walk tour was good, so are the boating/fishing crew. The one star is for them.Hotel room was horribly old.
Whether youre looking for a romantic or family vacation, or youre on your own, Mohonk is the perfect place for your next getaway. Located just a couple hours outside NYC, and situated on top of a mountain, this country estate is everything you could want it to be. Mohonk Mountain House feels like a cross between a luxury cruise and summer camp. The instructors are experts, the food is divine, and the hiking is accessible for everyone. We will definitely be back soon.
Was an absolutely wonderful place, wood burning fireplace even the middle of the summer we enjoyed it. Beautiful view of the lake and the mountains and the trees any requests we ask for they did all they could to help us. Lots of trails to hike on. And a nice canoe ride on the lake
We had the most wonderful family weekend! Great rooms, great food, great activities! Our spa experience was the best! And to top it off, there was a beautiful snow storm! We could not have had a better celebration with our family for our 50th anniversary!!
Feeling quite relaxed after a long weekend getaway up at Mohonk. We were lucky to have the fall foliage alongside some beautiful sunshine so we took many walks around the property, hiked up to the sky tower, canoed around the lake for a bit, & really enjoyed taking afternoon tea in the Lake Lounge. The one thing I’d love to see adjusted here would be the meal-planning. We found that the only thing that “interrupted” our leisurely weekend was having to stick to a food schedule as we had to reserve our food times in advance. Any other all-inclusive we’ve stayed at had at least one “come and go as you please” restaurant arrangement for all meals of the day and 24-hour room service which is handy for those that are looking to get away from their normally scheduled lives. We absolutely loved being able to sleep in and go have a casual breakfast by the fireplace in the Lake Lounge and definitely preferred that to taking breakfast at a scheduled time in the main dining room. We were delighted with our Brunch at The Foundry as it was DELICIOUS and I wish we would’ve eaten there more but now we know for next time.All-in-all, would definitely recommend if you’re looking to get away for the weekend and enjoy all New England has to offer. We’ll be returning with our kids, most definitely the same time of year as it was gorgeous!
We have come here dozens of times and the last visit was definitely a bit of a let down. I cant say that they really care about their most loyal and frequent guests. Most of the activities were not available (camp, Beach, granary, stables, etc) and the late checkout was botched. The food was mediocre at best, all buffet with breakfast items being recycled into lunch and more than half of the items are pork or shellfish. whereas it used to be really great during the summer. Considering that we paid full price ($1400/night), it was not worth it.
Mohonk Mountain House is a special place. This was our first visit with our teenage children and parents. Mohonk is set in a beautiful area of the Catskills. The room was clean and comfortable and the service was excellent. The other guests were polite. The WiFi was good when I needed to work. It was quiet with no televisions and drinks being quite pricey. We had a wonderful time and we took advantage of all sports. We even hiked through The Lemon Squeeze (very strenuous and not for anyone afraid of heights). We went hiking, canoeing, kayaking, paddle boarding, took out a paddle boat and then a row boat. We did Tomahawk throwing, archery, mountain biking, tennis, Pilates, Yoga, and my daughter and I did the swim across the lake twice every day, and we tried out the indoor pool.We enjoyed making smores in the evening around the campfire, watched some of the bands, and spent the last night watching a movie outside at the barn. We also went on the Barn Tour, which was interesting and highly recommended. The food was excellent, but dinners take 2 hours, which became tiring. We saw lots of wildlife: ground hogs (all named Walter), salamanders, water snakes, fish, all sorts of birds, turtles, a snapping turtle.Suggestions: we thought it was unreasonable to charge $35 per person to rent an old mountain bike for the 2 hour scheduled guided tour. Its $85 for an ebike. We were told that we could keep the bikes for the rest of the day, but seriously, after 7 miles straight uphill we had done enough. I ended up walking with the bike most of the way.As they had a hard time finding bikes for us, bikes for the tour should be reserved the day before and they should be free. If someone wants to go on their own or rent a bike for the entire day, then thats fine to charge, but not for the advertised tour. Also, as I stated that I had not ridden a bike in years, I should have been given a e-bike. I realised when our 22 year old guide showed up on an e-bike that I had made a mistake renting a normal bike. Overall, I did have an enjoyable time, but I was not happy with the cost or that so few bikes were available for the tour and we almost couldnt go.In the row boats, the oars are almost too heavy to lift. I have rowed the family around many lakes, but it was impossible to go very far with these oars.It seems like a lot of food goes to waste. As Mohonk prides itself on conservation, they should consider what to do with the uneaten food. Hopefully the staff at least benefit.Lastly, a few more talks for older family members would round things out. The House Tour was eh, the Barn Tour was fascinating and informative, and the Kitchen Tour was interesting. However, Michael the geologist could do some talks for those who are less mobile.Overall, we had a fabulous time and will return. It is indeed a special place.
It’s pure greed to charge $35 a person for a day pass to hike.
Our 11th visit since 1977. They gave us the best room we have ever had at a cheap rate, and it was a beautiful suite. Service was wonderful. The food is more upscale than in the past. We are still able to do some hikes. The paths are well maintained. We enjoyed the 3 evening talks which were very informative and well presented.
Went to Mohawk for a job retreat team building sash and it was good. The service when we had lunch time. The waiters were really great. The staff in the gift shop was also really nice there.
Service and food are okay, but for the price, they are very poor, in my opinion. For example, there was a fire pit one evening with roasting marshmallows, but at EXACTLY 9pm, they doused each of the 3 fires with water to put them out rather than allowing guests enjoy the fire until the embers burned out. Same thing with hospitality for cookies and tea from 4 - 5 PM. Its fine that you dont have servers managing the stations after 5PM, but LEAVE THE COOKIES!!! Come back and break it down at 6pm. Dinner - I was here twice, steaks were ALWAYS undercooked for Medium Rare - recieved a NY Strip and Ribeye both very RARE.
What a great place to get away from it all. All inclusive resort (unless you want spa treatments or alcohol with meals). Fantastic hiking trails, including a few challenging ones, to get back to nature and quiet yourself again. Wonderful little rustic huts that are literally anchored to the granite so you can sit and relax and feel like youre suspended over the lake in many spots. The food was outstanding. Only problem was that we werent used to eating dessert every lunch and dinner 😉. Not inexpensive, but when you factor in meals, gratuity, guided hiking tours, nightly entertainment, etc., and dont have to think about opening your wallet for any of these, it was well worth it. Well be coming back for sure. Look for mid-week specials.
The renovated room was gorgeous, service was terrific and overall vibe was peaceful. The public spaces are clean and mostly fresh. It is a truly beautiful spot but the dining/ food situation could use a total revamp. It’s all inclusive but really not that good (6/10 maybe)… charge a little less for the stay and have people pay for their desired meals. I imagine there is A LOT of waste with this current model. Also the mineral pool and outside patio at the spa needs to be replaced and expanded to accommodate the amount of guests.
A very nice property. Service was variable throughout our stay. The food was good, thought not amazing, and the dining room was very noisy. T H e wine prices, in the bar and dining room were steep. Overall, it was a nice, not amazing, stay.
We were supposed to go to their murder mystery weekend. I was very excited as I’ve wanted to do this since I was a kid. However, I got very sick with strep and a very high fever the day before. They were so kind and understanding. Refunded our deposit and hoped I got better soon. The pending refund showed on my credit card immediately. Class act. We will definitely go there another time when I’m feeling better. Hopefully they schedule another Murder mystery weekend soon.
Relaxing weekend distinabut overpriced. We were there on a rainy weekend would have been happier if there had been more indoor activities for adults. Food was good but not commenswith the cost of the stay. Srrvwas outstanding.
We had the BEST honeymoon here. The house is amazing, the trails were so pleasant and the amenities are outstanding. The dining experience was more than we could have hoped for. Our servers Joe and Des are THE BEST. Will definitely be returning!!!
Rooms are small and very expensive but lovely. Dinner in the main Dining room is great, lunch buffet is ok. We reserved a time in the Granary for dinner on Thursday night and were put in the main dining room because the Granary is closed on Fridays, which didnt make sense and just seemed like a miscommunication. So we had dinner Thursday AND lunch Friday in the main dining room (lunch was buffet and didnt seem necessary to make a reservation) and never got to check out the Granary. The hiking was great, the lake was beautiful, the grounds were wonderful. The price is steep, but for a special occasion, this place is fantastic.
Rooms, service and all other aspects of the hotel were amazing. The interior was very old and fancy, seeing how the place was founded in the 1800s, so many activities to keep us busy, and history to learn about the hotel. The food as well the view from the dining hall was immaculate.
The location and activities are worth the price but the hotel is dated. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the Jazz weekend my wife planned. Amazing views and hiking and indoor archery. We plan to go back in the summer when we can enjoy the outdoors more.
My wife and I spent a few days in mid December 2022 for our anniversary. The experience was amazing, helped by a coating of 8inches of snow turning the resort into a pristine winter wonderland. Were already planning a return trip next year. Now, onto our quick thoughts...To go through the things we loved: The grounds themselves were amazing, so much to go out and see. If the weather does turn snowy in the winter, you can rent (for free) snowshoes or yak-traks to make getting around the area easier and you can hold onto them for the duration of your stay and store them in your room. I forever want to do snowshoing now!. The ice rink is also really great in the winter months, we were able to go after lunch after it was freshly cleaned and had the rink to ourselves. The staff were fantastic (warm, welcoming, friendly and quite a bunch still masked). Definitely try to make a trip up to Skytop at least once for breathtaking views of the hudson valley area and the resort itself. The spa experience was well worth the price too, not only for the great massages but also you get access to that area of the resort for the rest of the day you book - providing a nice quiet place to read or go soak in the heated mineral hottub outside. Food was really tasty, the menu itself cycles through and repeats after a few days. Breakfast is a buffet style with some stations of custom made foods (like eggs/omlettes). Some may say no TVs is a negative, but we thought it was a great positive. Some of the things we didnt love: the walls seem quite thin and so were the doors leading to the hallways. Families with kids let them run the halls yelling and its like they are in the room with you. Would have loved a few more spots inside that were quiet to sit and relax - the majority are in high-traffic hallways.Other items of note: Meal times - you need to book your meal times with the resort before showing up and mealtimes are quite prompt (ie: says breakfast doesnt start until 8, the doors will not open until then theres usually a line formed). There are a lot of outdoor seating (balconies off rooms, big patios outside) but in the winter its a bit too cold to stay out there so you lose some nice quiet areas. Also during the winter, youll find some trails closed due to slippery conditions but there are plenty of trails to still wonder around. For those coming from NYC - we took Metro North to Poughkeepsie and then got a Lyft to the resort. We did have a few drivers cancel on us (maybe cause of the snow) but got an amazing woman who braved the fresh blanket of snow to go up there. From what we gather, ride shares dont like to go up there. There is a bus that goes from Port Authority in NY to New Paltz and the resort has a shuttle from the bus station to the resort (and vice versa). We talked to someone at the front desk about taking the shuttle from the resort to the bus stop to make it easier for us to get a Lyft but they wouldnt let us. Instead they gave us a number to a taxi service in the area which was fine.
Me and my husband planned the Lemon Squeeze hike for so long since our close friends already visited it and loved it.But as soon as we got to the gate we were not sure about the visit anymore. The lady was so rude almost offended about our questions, rolling her eyes so my husband asked her to lose the attitude. Instead of apologizing she just walked away cursing. I was totally shocked and I wish I didn’t need to write a review about the situation but this lady should not work with customers, I’ve read several reviews about her …
We stayed at Mohonk last weekend, and had a very disappointing experience and it did not live up to the very high price tag ($1200 night). It seems like the hotel is justifying their pricing by living off of its heritage and name, but the rooms or service are not at a 5 star level.Hotel/rooms: The rooms and hotel are out dated and need a serious renovation. Overall things looked shabby and worn. We also saw a chipmunk in the lounge. He was coming in and out of a hole in between the wall and floorboard.Food: The main dining hall felt like a college dining hall or camp. It was massive and not classy at all. The food was horrendous. We ordered the fish, and they over cooked it to the point of being inedible. It looked like it had been sitting under the broiler for quite some time. When we said something to our server, she didn’t ask us what we wanted, she just brought us another fish that was also inedible and over cooked.Rooms: We booked a lake side view with a fireplace. They put us in a room facing the valet area (not Lake side) and told us they didn’t have any Lake view rooms left, so we didn’t get the room we wanted. At night, we used the fireplace, and the flume was clogged, so as soon as we used the fireplace, our entire room filled with smoke, and set off the fire alarm. We couldn’t even breathe, and everything including ourselves smelled like a campfire. We asked to be moved to another room, and they moved us to a lake side view but downgraded our room. We had to change rooms at 11:30 at night. We complained and the manager gave us a 20% discount which was appreciated, but it still didn’t make up for the poor experience.Grounds: the grounds are very pretty. There are several hiking trails, and the hotel is situated on a lake, so they had a lot of water activities (canoe, paddle board, row boats) included in the price, which was nice.Overall experience: The hotel needs to be updated, the fireplace was clogged and not working properly, and the service was sub-par. We had multiple interactions with the front desk giving us wrong information regarding our room and stay. This hotel is not a romantic getaway for couples. It was loaded with screaming children and demanding families. We were hoping for a quiet getaway from the city, and were very disappointed. For the price, we expected a 5 star experience, and Mohonk did not live up to a 5 star experience.
This historical place is absolutely beautiful. I Immediately felt welcomed. The scenery is breathtaking! I was so impressed with this place. Very thought out hiking/walking trails for all levels. The handmade wood carved covered seats all over the property with their own unique characteristics and outdoor porches with rocking chairs overlooking the lake was so serene. Thank you Mohawk and the wonderful staff for making my stay and much needed relaxation a reality. Look forward to coming back.
This is not to bash the place but it needs to be said for any future person interested in going there. I personally felt swindled. I was expecting a nice Hotel, with great service and great food. The grounds are beautiful, old but quaint. Unfortunately, its oversold online and the image you get of a nice top-of-the-line resort is just not so. This is not a place for younger people. Most of the guests were in their late 50s or 60s. Nothing wrong with that, but if you are a younger couple you will feel out of place. The actual hotel is very dated, most of the rooms are small and motel-like. It seems its been ages since they took care of simple things like replacing the pool sticks in one of the game rooms. The food is terrible. It felt more like food from a buffet than from a respectable restaurant. The drinks were overly sweet and not good at all. Now, the people that work there were all cordial and helpful. With the amount of money, this places charges for a night, you would expect better. One good thing they have going for them is the Spa. Great service, nice amenities, and wont disappoint. My recommendation is to stay somewhere else, and come to this place for the Spa services and to take a look at the grounds. I wouldnt recommend anything else.
Got married here. The hotel is in an exquisite natural setting. Recently visited again and went hiking. Nice trails, some get more challenging. Lovely little streams and shady areas. There’s a lookout on one of the trails and there’s a breathtaking view of the Mountain House and the surrounding mountains.
I’ve been attempting to book a carriage ride at the stables. Very rudely I was told that even though there are many openings for the carriage ride I will not be offered any reservations due to the fact that I am not an overnight guest. This is ridiculous! Due to the fact that I cannot afford the absurd amount that it costs to stay overnight I will not be considered when trying to book an experience at the Mohonk mountain house. This just proves that unless you have money to burn you will not be welcomed to the Mohonk mountain house.
Being local, Ive never actually stayed in the hotel. So this review is based on the grounds more than anything. I have been there multiple times. The grounds are beautiful with some nice hiking trails. Some of the views are gorgeous . the view looking down to the Mountain House and lake itself is something to see.The porch that looks over the lake seems so inviting that we have considered spending the money for the experience of spending the night. But it is very pricey and we just could not justify it.It is a beautiful place to visit. Maybe someday well get to experience an overnight.
My wife and I came here with our 2 kids. The grounds are very nice and relaxing. The food was delicious. However, the beds are horrendous. For such an expensive hotel, I would want to sleep on an updated mattress. They have boards under the mattress and came to change it since the mattress was so uncomfortable and springy. For the price we paid ($1300 a night) I wouldnt go back for this reason.
A wonderful and beautiful resort with first rate food and service. Excellent outdoor activities, hiking etc, boating etc. - just not much to do at night- I would highly recommend as long as you dont need a TV or a nightlife - and its definitely very pricey -
Fabulous food. The menu allows you to pick one from each a starter, a main, and a dessert. The option for some dairy free items were sometimes available and when they were= delicious! The most fun was the granary. Outdoor picnic tables and buffet style food offerings. The staff was amazing. No is not in their vocabulary! They find ways to get you whatever you want. The rooms were great. Modernized yet retain classic elements. devoid of a fridge and a tv you go the weekend without realizing it.Families and couples enjoy everything .My goal was to unplug. Relax and sit in a rocking chair on every porch.Mission accomplished.
The food was very good and the staff was very friendly unfortunately the physical presence of the actual accommodations and facilities leave a lot to be desired. The rooms are stuffy and smell old. The tiny bathroom has very poor water pressure and the water is either too hot or too cold and there is no ventilation. It is also presumptuous for management to assume that because they are situated in the mountains people will not want to watch TV. We had to request a TV for which we had to pay for! For the prices they charge, the rooms as well as the shared areas should be a lot better maintained -there is a difference between old and run down. The library and reading rooms are very cold and bare, the billiard room has missing poles and a run down pool table and is so small that taller people hit their arms against the walls. The game room is a joke -3 game tables and very run down and thread bare. It is located at the very end of a dark corridor and looks like something out of a basement from the 80’s.
My wife and I first stayed at Mononk Mountain House in 1997, during our first year of marriage back before we had kids. Over 18 visits later, we are coming again this August with our kids (25 and 23). Myself, wife, daughter, and son are drawn to this amazing place, and consider it home. We even know the workers who have been there as long as we have visited. Its like a second home. Although its more than that..... It is an amazingly well run, historical, familiy owned massive nature compound that teleports you into a world long forgotten. Their food would put a New York City 5 star restaurant to shame, and their activities are beyond count. Its like going back to camp as a kid, but with 5 star accommodations. We also hosted two family reunions there, one for my wifes family and one for my family. I have only amazing memories and all great things to say about our 2nd home. I can imagine a point in the future when we are visiting and there will also be grandchildren around us.
I really liked the resort and the in-person service and food was wonderful! Id love to go back - just had a bad experience with the call center.I booked a $2,300 room for two nights. Its me and my son who just turned 4. When I called in to make dinner reservations (none were available) the representative added $400 to my reservation because I mentioned in conversation that my son had just had his 4th birthday. Its not the $400 charge, its the way it was handled. I didnt ask for my son to be added, she didnt confirm that she was charging me or tell me what the charge would be. I got a surprise bill after she overhead his age. Theres a page on their website labeled kids say free at Mohonk. Apparently this weekend is excluded and 4 is the cutoff - thats fine, but I think most people would be frustrated by a surprise bill.We also had a not great experience with the valet. They told us they would charge our Tesla (Awesome!). When we got it, it was empty and we had to find a charger and extend our rental. No worries if you cant charge, I just wish they told us so we could have planned our afternoon.Mohonk asked me to reach out publicly (see below), to then privately tell me again that Im wrong. Fine, but this is not a good use of time for either side.
Go for the massage, stay for the burger! Kid you not, the burger they make at The Carriage House is the most perfectly-charred classic burger I’ve had (and I’m burger-obsessed). We came for just the day and got two massages, hung out in the mineral pool, sauna, steam room, and got a la carte lunch at The Carriage House (since the lunch buffet for non-guests is astronomical, literally $270 per person). The burger and the views and mineral pool were the best part. The whole place is so cozy and epic, classic and charming, full of families just relaxing around with books and games for hours - really adorable. Too bad its so expensive to stay here, but glad we got to spend the day. Its so much more affordable and almost the same experience. We explored New Paltz after and had such a full, fun day. Will be back in the spring for hiking.5 stars!!!
We were looking forward to our experience at Mohonk - and we really loved the views, shoutout to Anthony - the very personable and friendly guide who took us hiking, as well as the staff at the boathouse. The hikes are fantastic, and the views from all around - truly breathtaking! The service however is another story. When I booked our dates, I mentioned to the agent about our family being vegetarian and was assured we would be taken care of in the best possible way. For the amount I was paying, I was hoping this would be a lot of fun.The menu seems to cater only to meat eaters, with a few things thrown in like salads and fries for the vegetarian/vegans. The dinner menu had nothing vegetarian in it, and all they could do was a tofu stir fry! Ive been to all-inclusive resorts, and this was quite the disappointment. The service - apart from one or two people in the restaurant, is seriously in need of some training. As we were leaving, the valet brought out our car, and we noticed a bunch of scratches and dents that we told them about - they took pictures and said would get back after checking security cameras, but as I expected, we apparently drove in with those scratches.Pricey place, with peanuts to offer in the name of customer service.
Me and my husband stayed here for our mini honeymoon. Such a beautiful place. The entire staff was beyond accommodating, professional and friendly. Every single person, from the waitresses & waiters in the dining hall, to the valet guys who not only did the valet but helped us with our luggage and basically handled any request we had such as bringing more firewood to our room whenever we needed more. The lady at the spa had such a great personally, just the sweetest. The room service people were a pleasure to speak to when I would call to place my orders and they were cheerful when delivering our breakfast. SPECIAL thanks to Richard who I believe was a maintenance worker. I got sick around 3am one of the nights and my husband found Richard in the hallway and he brought us more fire wood, and gave my husband some supplies to help me with my stomach. He went above and beyond for us in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. The housekeeping women were so friendly and whenever i passed one of them in the all way they would ask if i needed anything. The food was amazing in the dining hall, every single meal from starter to entree to the dessert. The views from my balcony were breathtaking. I could go on and on. Thank you everyone for making my stay extra special. It’s worth the price!
Amazing, relaxing, rejuvenating getaway place. The spa was heavenly, the food was soo delicious, and the general atmosphere was exactly what i needed after a stressful set of months. I highly suggest getting a spa treatment which allows you access to the spa facilities all day - you feel like royalty walking around in lux robes, laying in the veranda with teas or waters of your choosing...the icing on cake is the mineral heated spa/pool that melts your muscle pain or tension away. Tea time is a great pick me up after walking around the gardens or trails, or even spending hours relaxing. There are also daily events always taking place if you are an adventure seeker.
I Used to Love this place! They have gorgeous lake, amazing hikes and the food USED TO BE delicious. To my great disappointment it has changed :(Last time I visited Mohonk Mount Houses restaurant with my girlfriends. We booked lunch at Main Dining Room. It is pricy $140 per person after taxes, but it was worth before, because they had very talented chefs, and food USED to be absolutely delicious! What was our disappointment, when we found out that the lunch is not a Prefix menu as they advertised, but just a Buffet. The manager just informed us that it has changed 2 weeks ago. My question is Why we were not informed about this change. I doubt that we would agree to come for Buffet. The food was simple and absolutely average - sandwiches, spaghettis, chicken, etc. For THIS price, are you serious??Total disappointment! I will never go to their restaurant again, and I definitely will let all my friends know what to expect at this place.
Never visited this place and would love to but I cannot fathom how a hotel can charge $1000!!! Yes that much for a 1 night stay. Its so inappropriate to charge so much to stay at a hotel. I guest even those middle class people cant experience a place like that. Thats price is almost half a mortgage. Hotel should be ASHAMED charging guests that much!!
The place and property were wonderful. The property would be the reason to book a return trip as it is so vast, it cant be explored in one weekend. Though the meals were included with the booking, this is where they fell short. Breakfast in particular was cold. The butter wouldnt melt on your toast. Dinner left one wanting as well if you are a beef lover though the Bolognese is very good. There were other dining options, one of which was the Granary. This is an outdoor buffet with all sorts of wonderful choices and the weather was perfect for sitting outside. The staff is very friendly. We stayed in one of the Victorian Mountainview rooms. Had a great view of the mountains from the balcony. As with most places I find it difficult to sleep on a mattress that is foreign to me. This one a little more so as the mattress was in need of replacement. Very nice shower in the bathroom though the bathroom was small...single sink...no tub. Nice clean room.
Beautiful resort but the service I experienced in the main dining room was far from my expectation. Food was ok but our table was the only table that was not properly cleaned after the meal. Had to ask the server to take the plates away before desert but still would not scrape the crumbs away like they would do to other tables. My appetite was ruined so I did not eat the desert. I was looking forward to come back with my kid this summer but leaving with disappointment.
Mohonk Moutain House was a wonderful experience. Especially this time of year when mother nature puts on an autumn show. I am ashamed to say I never knew about it havingblived only 90 miles away for so many years. You can get a day pass to walk the grounds. We bought a buffet breakfast and walking pass which entitled us to registered as guests for the day. The breakfast was the best buffet I have ever had. The views from the dinning room were stunning. We walked the trails for about 7 miles that day and it was amazing. We arrived by 7:30am and was very satisfied with the walks and coffee breaks by 3:00pm. We are planning to return but next time we will stay the weekend. This place has everything. Its more than a resort, its a vacation destination.
My friend and I drove from Roxbury CT to come hike at the labyrinth. Unfortunately it was exactly 3:01pm and the woman refused to let us purchase passes because the cutoff was 3pm exactly. She aggressively told us that there are no exceptions and that there was another trail not too far away. We pulled aside in the parking lot to lookup the trail she had mentioned. 5 minutes later the same woman comes to our car and screams at us that there is no parking permitted here and to turn to the next lot and park there. So we go there, and then again she comes to us, writes down our license plate on her clipboard and tells us this is private property and she is calling the police. She had told us this is where we were supposed to park… This woman made a horrific experience for my friend and I who had the whole Saturday planned to do this hike. The woman’s behavior was grotesque and unacceptable reflecting the culture that this resort promotes. Don’t waste your money or time coming here because you will be threatened, harassed and unwelcomed.
1st night out of 5. Everything is excellent, Ill try to edit at the end of my vacation but I dont believe there will be any satisfactory updates. Edit: Weve been here for 5 nights now and we had a wonderful time everything was top notch. I almost feel sad about leaving, but well be back maybe next year at Christmas.
The young lady at the West Trapps trailhead where our hike started was helpful and informative. However hiking through the Labrynth and down through the Mountain house felt as if we were poor people out of place. Yall should really lower the prices a bit so it doesnt feel like hikers are peasants mingling amount celebrities. Id stay here for $500 a night but $1200 a night is beyond absurd.
I struggled to rate this three stars. The positives were the staff and the facilities. The negatives were the food, rooms and value. The setting is beautiful and the outdoor activities are very good. However, the rooms were filled with cheap furniture even by hotel standards and the bed was very uncomfortable. The food at the main dinning hall was spotty, some good, some not very good but never exceptional. I expected much better for the price.
We were daily visitors. The place is really beautiful. Not sure I would stay in when looking at the reviews about food and room quality for the price. We could join for the cookies at 4PM. It was quite basic and coffee was not amazing
The staff was excellent! Big shout out to Steve (manager) and Zach at the front desk. The resort is huge. There were a lot of activities to do for adults. My husband and I enjoyed our anniversary celebration very much. My advice is to book spa services or other activities well in advanced. We couldnt get into anything. The food was average and they are able to accommodate gluten free meals. I did knock off a star b/c of the food (I became ill after lunch). Also the room was a bit disappointing. We had a lovely fireplace in the room; however, every time we started a fire the room filled up with smoke. Luckily we could open the balcony door but it made the room cold & dampened the mood. Overall I recommend the Mohonk, especially to couples or families with children over the age of 10. The grounds are beautiful and you really get to experience nature first hand.
Stayed here with my wife and 3 children ages 9 6 2 in the Grove lodge in January. The Grove lodge was beautiful andis very disconnected from the main hotel. This provides for a very private experience. For us with three kids it was quite difficult to gather everything and walk up the hill for meals and ice skating. For a young couple it would be ideal. For a family reunion with 10 + people it would be great as well. There are areas 5 or 6 separate rooms in the Grove lodge. The price was steep but included food and non alcoholic drinks.I took a 30 min hike with the older children which is all they could handle. I also checked out the barn museum which was awesome.I would not recommend our trip to familys with young children, at least not in January when its 9 degrees but recognize the beauty of the grounds. Finally the service is great. Diane helped us plan our weekend which was very helpful and the dining service was great. Check out was painless. They even let us leave our snow shoes in thr room rather than walk up the hill again to return them.

Beautiful grounds, great food, awesome hiking
Worth every single penny.Help staff is wonderful, a night stay includes three meals usually and so many activities / on site amenities including fishing hiking night time fire pits / lit fireplaces tea…Such a serene and naturally beautiful location. I seriously wish I could live here as a guest forever. The stay is a splurge but I intend on returning often in the future. If you’re thinking about visiting but don’t want to stay there is a day pass you can pay much less and use some of the amenities and property to hike and I think I’ll do this during the summer a few times. Currently 1-2 wings and spa are under construction but for that reason mohonk house is offering discounted rates until end of June !
We stayed 3 days in this wonderful hotel with our family. The hotel is a classic one! A lot of outdoors things to do, one pool inside the building, hiking, and a beautiful spa.Staff: people were polite, they were helpful, and dedicate to provide a better experience.Food: three course menu that was totally unique food. The food had the natural taste, not the artificial flavour. Make your reservation when you arrive!Bed&Bath: like a charming cottage with a fireplace in the room. All amenities in the room, but guess what... You dont have a TV! If you want, you can order, but I guarantee, you dont need it because there are many things to see and do outside the hotel.Plus: It was my wifes birthday so they provided a beautiful gift for her in the room. She loved it so much! Thank you!Gift shop: they have a store in the hotel that has absolutely everything you need. Worth it.Mohonk is a Jewel Hotel near by New York. We will advise our friends that this is an excellent option when they are visiting the state. We will back, certainly.
The dinner courses take a very long time. I miss the Buffet style dinner meal , the service was slow during busy nights and the menu options very unique and unfamiliar.everything else was quite nice, friendly staff, amazing facilities and area
