I can only comment on the night life as I did not come here for food. We came on a Saturday night for drinks and live music and the Rusty Rudder did not disappoint. Beers/seltzers were about $9 a piece. The staff were great. There are multiple bars at this location, live music on the back patio and DJ inside, overall, would come again for the night life and recommend if youre looking for a great time and great music. Also Stealing Savannah was awesome, catch them at other venues in the area (DC, VA, Maryland as well)
Good food and drinks. The live music was nice, and they seem to have a great bar scene. You cant beat having a drink here at sunset. The view was amazing. It was busy and we were told a 40 min wait. We were seated after 10 min! It was a much longer wait for our meals, but it could of just been super busy. Its still worth a try.
I loved the outdoor dining at close to sunset. The music Full Moon was a good vibe but sadly took a break shortly after we arrived. The food was just meh and my husbands salmon overcooked l, fried brussels no seasoning, with; no follow up water refills or check in. The lemon meringue crush was delicious and so was the view.
Fun bar/restaurant with outdoor seating. Nice selection of drinks and food. We went for appetizers and drinks around dinner time and the portions were huge! Our server was very polite, but even at dinner time it was quite loud with the music and other guests. The bay views and watching the sun set was totally worth it though!
What a great place! It has it all! Except parking... We held my sons rehearsal dinner a couple years ago and people are still talking about it. Visited this restaurant last Thursday. Never disappoints. Plus they had a band there! The view is also incredible!!!
Rusty Rudders is definitely THE spot to go to for nightlife in Dewey! This is my second year in a row coming here, and it never disappoints. The music is amazing, with two dance floors—live music outside and a DJ inside. The drinks are good, and the vibes are incredible. Huge shoutout to DJ Knappy for absolutely killing it! This place gets busy, but it’s definitely worth the $10 cover at night. If you’re looking for a great night out in Dewey, Rusty Rudders is the place to be!
The Rusty Rudder is right on the beach with lots of outdoor seating. They have live music and they day we went to the band was really good! I had the little neck class, and they were delicious. I also got the beet and goat cheese salad, and it was delicious and HUGE! My only complaint would be my friend ordered beans to add to her salad for protein, and they gave her one tiny condiment cup. We didnt say anything, so thats on us too. Our waiter Cody was very attentive and checked on us frequently. He also recommended spots for us to paddle board!
My family of 4 visited Rusty Rudder this past weekend and had the BEST service I have ever had at a restaurant. Our waitress name was Tish, and she is an angel on earth I am convinced. She had a radiant joy & very close attention to detail. Our drinks were never empty, she apologized for wait times that were not her fault, and she was so personable. Outside of the great food, the service is even better.
I used to visit Rusty Rudder 20-25 years ago when I was younger and hanging out with my single friends. I decided—since schools back in session and our son is away at college, wed drive down to our local beach towns and hang out. I was reminiscing about a couple of places that used to be the old stomping ground, so to speak. My husband wanted to try checking out some live music, so I suggested we go to Rusty Rudder. We happened to catch two different artists back to back who were performing on a Sunday evening. This gave me a chance to look at Rusty Rudder from a new perspective since I have different things going on in my life now. I felt there was a good vibe for off-season and on a Sunday, when I wasnt looking for anything too excitable. We both wanted to kick back with drinks and music after being on the beach all day.First, accessibility: there is a ramp leading you to the outdoor seating or their general bar area, and thank goodness for it. I noticed a few individuals who had to use it coming in or leaving. Their bathrooms were behind what would be considered the stage or performance area where theres a secondary bar. Its a bit of a narrow space to get into. I dont know how someone would navigate it if they had a walker or wheelchair. I will say they were clean, though!Theyll allow you to bring your dog out to the outside deck there as long as they do well in public. Thats a plus! When youre sitting there, its a great view of the water and the boats going by. It started to rain after we showed up, but we were seated under the covered deck. The young ladies—who were the hostesses, and the gentleman who was our waiter, were both friendly and accommodating. Its still a good spot for drinks and entertainment!
Great vibe and service but if Im going to be honest the food leaves much to be desired for a fresh seafood experience. Its very expensive as well. My advice is to get a drink and an appetizer since they are massive and leave it at that. Paid $70 per person for a upset stomach
Meh. Our bartender acted like it was a burden to serve us and was very short with us. He was more concerned with talking to his friends and petting a dog than doing his job. I didn’t like leaving bad reviews but this one is warranted. The atmosphere was the only plus For there being so many choices, I would definitely go somewhere else. Never again.
We only came here for a quick appetizer . The boardwalk fries in a huge margarita glass was cool. But it tasted more of a step up kfc fry then a boardwalk style fry. They were good but not the boardwalk style I was looking for. The chicken fingers were good . Service was fine. Cant judge the eat of the food cause thats all we are. To call it boardwalk fries is a shame .
Im not sure why this has a 3.9 rating. Their food is actually damn good. The atmosphere is obviously amazing. Maybe the negative reviews are so theres no wait 🤔
Just not what it used to be. Quite expensive, poor service, poor management and the 2.5% “convenience” fee to use a card is absolutely ridiculous. Be aware that the menu prices are for “cash only”.I watched a server give a beer to the wrong table, and after that patron touched the wrong beer the server took it back and gave it to the correct table. ALL WHILE THE MANAGER WATCHED! She shook her head but didn’t do or say anything about it.Oh and the crab dip did not come with enough naan bread, asked for some more and were charged for the request. Serve it with the correct amount the first time.Again, poor service and worse management. Not what it used to be. We won’t be back and that’s a shame.Be warned….
Love the outside seating area that is partially covered to keep sunburn away but can still see and hear band play. Food is delicious though a little pricey compared to some other local options. However there were more drink options here than other local places too. Frozen strawberry daiquri hit the spot!
If i could give 0 stars I would. Music was trash, food was overpriced for how bland it was. Waiter was absolutely terrible, very rude and clearly hated his job. He rolled his eyes anytime I asked for a drink and told me he had better things to do then wait for me to pull out my money. Honestly the worst experience I have ever had at any restaurant or bar. Has gone way downhill since I was younger. Do not recommend.
Saturday night was the first time Ive ever gone to the Rusty rudder and oh boy it did not disappoint! The two DJs inside were sooo good.... they had me dancing all night long. Cant wait to come back to the rudder to see them again!
We had a great night until one of the security guards aggressively kicked out one of our friends after he had done nothing wrong all night. The second they closed, a security guard shoved our friend and put him in a choke hold to drag him out of the bar. He didn’t resist and there was no need for that level of aggression. We brought up the issue to other staff members, and they responded with, “Well, we’re closed anyway.” They had no intention to resolve the issue and clearly did not care of about the quality of their staff, the safety of their customers, and the environment that it sets. I’m never one to write reviews, especially negative ones, but Im really disappointed in the staff.
This is a must stop when you come down to Dewey Beach in Delaware. The food was amazing and the service was outstanding from Jake I. I believe he told me a different name. The band that was playing outside was awesome. They really got the folks going at the tables. My wife even got up and danced. This never happens. We will definitely be back. Like I said this is a must stop when in the area .Please like my post and click follow me.
Very disappointed! First time! Flies galore. All over our food. Bar was never sanitized or wiped clean. The language on your employees disgusting. Loud and out of order. Went across the way. Totally the opposite ! Never again. Very dirty.
Everyone I know told me to go to Rusty Rudder when I came to town for Memorial Day. Turns out they DO NOT allow dogs in the summer. I have literally never heard of a restaurant that allows dogs half the year on their deck. Trust me when I tell you that I have been to many beaches on the east coast with my dog. So, we did take out. The food was okay and expensive. I’m always expecting high prices at the beach and was disappointed with the portions/food quality for the price. I can easily get better food at home for the same price. The staff was really frazzled when I went to pick it up. Mind you, the town of Dewey has cleared out since Memorial Day is over and we are staying the rest of the week to relax. No crowds.Add Starboard to the list of locations that does not allow dogs during the summer as well. The Lighthouse is closed Monday & Tuesday, which knocks that recommendation from my friends out of the mix. Super disappointed I can’t try these places when I drove 4 hours in traffic to get here!
I’m so very appalled at the staff of this establishment. Me and my friends were there two nights in a row and the same bouncer assaulted multiple people for no reason. Tonight we were about to leave and the bouncer starts choking out my brother dragging him out the door for NO REASON. It’s a shame because otherwise the vibe of the establishment is great. This bouncer is on a power trip and needs to be fired immediately. I will never return here again.
Avoid at all costs. Friends and I stumbled upon this bar late Saturday night and decided to check it out while in the area. The women at the door were EXTREMELY rude and condescending to my friends and I. After learning the bar charges cover and deciding if we wanted to stay, an employee said, “Sorry if $10 is too much for you.” This was baffling, as we are all lawyers who could well afford the fee. Even after deciding we would stay, we decided against it given the hostile and unwelcoming environment towards my group. Please train your employees on proper client service, as comments like these can *really* rub potential customers the wrong way and give your establishment a bad reputation in a small town like Dewey.
Very nice location on the bay side of Dewey Beach DE. Live music. Lots of outside seating to enjoy the sunset. We had to wait for a table, but much shorter time than expected. One thing to beware of: many of the tables are removed at 9:00 PM for dancing! We didnt know this, but finished our dinner before our table was taken away.
Nice outdoor beach bar. Can dock your boat if there are open spots or anchor off shore and walk in. Both indoor or outdoor seating, though no A/C inside. Not a huge menu, but some seafood options, sandwiches, and the burgers are good. Specialty drinks from the bar are very tasty. Live music. Overall it’s a good time.We said it was our friends birthday and they went above and beyond. Brought out a whole cake (which was surprisingly very good) and got the band to sing.
This was the worst service Ive ever had. We had a party of 10. Waitress was rude, didnt check on us, someone else brought our food out. She forgot a whole meal for kids. The manager was just as bad. Didnt bother trying to make things right. Just didnt make us pay for the meal she forgot. The waitress wouldnt split up the bill. She gave me one bill and told me to separate it myself. Then added a 20% tip on already so we didnt get a choice of what we wanted to tip. Also using a credit card they charge you 2.5% fee. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone. The food was terrible too.
I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone. My boyfriend got choked and dragged out of the bar for picking me up at closing time by one of the bouncers... Im so upset because otherwise it was a great night. This bouncer needs to be fired immediately as he choked someone out the night before for no reason too. There is no reason to put your hands on someone regardless but especially when they are cooperating. I will never return.
Crab cake was good, but I wouldn’t call it ginormous. Value for what you get isn’t there unfortunately. Will still go there for the live music!
My friends and I had so much fun here! Security made sure everyone was safe and all guests had a good time! We will definitely come back!
One of the worst dining experiences ive had in a loooong time. The rusty rudder used to be a great place to take your family and enjoy the beach but things have seemed to fall downhill. I came here as a kid and my experience 20 years ago did not translate to my current experience at all . I decided to take my wife for dinner. Table seating was closed around 9 and nobody sat us. We ended up going to the bar where none of the staff would respond to us, and when they did it was unprofessional often walking away to look at his phone or ignore us on multiple occasions. Cant remember his name but hat backwards with a mustache he looked like a chad and behaved like one too. Never met a bartender so detached from the profession. If youre looking to take your family here, try and come around 6 but dont expect great service
Awesome spot for outdoor eatery by the water and watch the sunset. The band was great. I recommend to everyone who looks for a place to relax and enjoy sunset, food, drinks, and entertainment 👏🥂🍸🎉
Worst experience I’ve ever had. The food was bland and cold, and my friends burger was almost completely uncooked. He was sick afterwards. Do not recommend and would steer clear if you are in Dewey.
Good food, views, music, drinks, and atmosphere. The waitress always checked on us to make sure everything was good.
Great food. Live music. Service was a little slow but waitress checked in a lot ensuring she did everything she could while we waited! Kids loved by the water!
This place is an older, massive beach party shack. Which kinda makes it great, right? The setting on the bay is perfect. Families can enjoy the bands afternoon through evening, but its a party after that. Drinks were typical but poured heavy handed. Doesnt bother me...but others might want to know. I cant comment on food because I didnt get any this time. I wasnt hungry BUT I have to say that everything I saw come out looked amazing and, after leaving, I wish I had. Servers could smile more...but maybe it was a bad day. They all seemed a little down. The band was fun and...all in all...it made me wish I had won the the lottery so I could retire early and hang out daily.
Staff was very rude to us. We had tickets to see a band - they were 30 min late. Staff removed our stools and told us to move, which we did. Then security staff was very rude to us. Made us move again. We did. Then yelled at us a third time and we finally left because it was so stressful. Staff was rude for no reason - we were just standing minding our own business. Will never return to this place.
We ordered the artichoke crab dip and clam strips, but was disappointed by the experience. The crab dip tasted overwhelmingly like cream cheese, while the clam strips were bland and lacked flavor. The drinks were also mediocre. Its a decent place to hang out, but I wouldnt recommend it for the food.
Party ? YesRelax ? YesGood food ? YesAmazing view ? YesWhat else you need near the beach. Outdoor patio by the bay for lunch in the day time with live music. Bands perform here after they clear the tables from this area and it gets crazy. They also have indoor DJ area. Great location with sunset view in the bay.
The view is the star here. Average to good food is available, I had a decent crab cake sandwich, and service was efficient but overwhelmed by the large Saturday lunch crowd.
View was amazing (of the bayside). Food was great though pricey (you are at the beach-its going to be pricey regardless of venue), service was mediocre (seemed like a bunch of newly graduated teenagers-imagine that getting good help is hard in such a seasonal area).
A real mixed bag. Plenty of space, and dog friendly. Super views. Cutting down on the straws. Very tasty fries. On the other hand, no real vegan options - they have the beyond burger on the menu but not in stock. The beer selection is strangely 95% Annheiuser Busch stuff, pricey, and not really all that cold. The fruit tray with brown limes and stickers still on the lemons was a real bummer. Grapefruit crush was impossibly bad. Watermelon crush was fantastic, though. Bartenders were very nice.
$15 for a strawberry daiquiri with no alcohol in it....ordered crab and artichoke dip tasted like warm cream cheese. And wasnt too fond of the clams with sirracha in the sauce. Not a fan.
Crabcake was outstanding! Would go again just for that. The view from the outside seating was very nice.
The bar of much and many. Rusty Rudder has different vibes for different times. During the day its family friendly with chill live music by the bay but also has a club scene for those party goers. Service is a solid meh. They arent super attentive but they have a lot to manage. Its a good vibe all in all and worth visiting.
Great place to hang out in the summertime! We love going here for the great live music whether its the house reggae band, the Island Boys playing each evening or the rotation of bands they have playing late night. You really cant beat the great evening sunset views of the bay. This is a fun lively place to grab a few drinks meet some friends and now with a revised menu, the food is great too!
I ordered nachos. They were bland and the chicken on it tasted like it was from a can. I was very disappointed in the quality of the food I ordered.
Parking 3-6 dollars. Its drinks and pub food. You can watch a sunset while sipping your Bud Light. Wife had a salad and I, the fish taco. Food is okay and the drinks come in plastic cups. This by the way does not bode well for a margarita! Tables and chairs are lopsided, but staff were attentive. You can do a lot better if you are looking for a decent meal, but if pub food, and a refreshing Bud light out of a can at sunset is your gig then search no more.
We were there for their anniversary party and it was a BLAST! LOVE Seed Mama Jump played and the place was rockin!
I came here for July 4th weekend and had a BLAST! With the uptick in COVID cases, we were restricted to only sitting at the table, no dancing, or getting up. But the environment and our server contributed to the best time. Shout outs to our server AJ who was so much fun and personable! So much so we came back our last night and specifically requested to be sat in his section (lol!). The drinks are yummy and I had the crab dip, which I wish I had right now. The band on both nights were fun to listen to, as well - the scene was very Nashville vibes. Come here for your next Dewey trip :)
The Rusty Rudder is a place I used to avoid because whenever I was there it was really loud and crowded. However, I went there this summer (2021) and sat outside and it was great. The staff was very friendly, food and drink service was prompt and the food was good. The best part is sitting on that outside deck listening to live music. I had a good time and it changed my mind about the Rudder.
Views were fantastic and atmosphere was great. We went to see a band, great venue for that as you have water views no matter where you sit. The food wasnt great, didnt taste fresh. They didnt have a large beer selection and beers were $7.50 a pop. Mixed drinks werent any better. The bar staff wasnt very friendly either, they engaged with you as if it was an inconvenience for them. They werent engaged at all, just here to sling beers the one guy told me. On the other hand the table staff was very professional and accommodating. They have a good band lineup so definitely go to see a band, but dont take friends from out of town for dinner, better options in Dewey.
Came here for food, drinks, and the live music on a Saturday night with a group of friends, and we had an amazing time! The fried pickles & green bean app was tasty and huge, more than enough to share between five people. The clams, shrimp, and crab cakes were absolutely delicious and our service was super fast, even while staff was setting up for the band. The music was so fun and kept us going all night! Drinks were also excellent. The manager, GT, was so accommodating and attentive for our entire visit, and made sure we left safely. What a great guy and a great time! Highly recommend and will definitely be back the next time Im in town!
Came with a big group of friends all had fun till randomly one of us was kicked out by staff that had been oddly watching us all night, apparently he was kicked out because his button up shirt came undone .. while at a beach bar I wouldn’t think that is a big deal but staff seemed rude and eager to hurry him out making us all leave. Staff ruined our time. Bar tenders were arrogant to our group also. Bad place bad time don’t go.They also Think because they’re busy they can just forget about customer service and all of that. Maybe if the security guard that’s roided out stopped showing up to work 4 deep on a power trip trying to show how tough he is to every one got fired it’d be worth the trip. Guy was a douche bag over a button on a shirt lol
The food was cold and not exceptional in any way.Expensive!!!!Service was not great, the waitress was too busy.
The best thing about this place is the bayside view and convivial atmosphere. The menu is good and service is often spotty
So we have a Party of 7. We wanted to see if they took reservations and had another question....so I called....between 3:50pm and 4:05pm....8 times. It just rang and rang and rang.......
We stopped in for drinks after parasailing. Cool outdoor bar area. Fun drinks tropical drinks. I recommend the rum punch. Live music was playing at 3:40 in the afternoon on Labor day weekend. I dont know if its typically like that but the place was very busy for the mud afternoon. The large bar area was mostly full and there were people waiting for tables. The outdoor seating area overlooks the bay and seemed like a nice place to grab some food and relax.
Overpriced, mediocre food. Prices have gone up considerably over the past 2 years and they charge for parking now. This place has an abysmal yelp score, dont let the google rating fool you!BTW the ambiance is genuinely great - the view and the music. The service is fine. I just cant imagine paying this much for bad food. You really can get a better meal almost anywhere in Dewey. Money aside, I wouldnt waste calories on this. The fries are fantastic though. Get those and some drinks.
Had a very enjoyable evening here. The food was excellent, as was our server. There was a live band tonight, and they were excellent! Loved their choice of songs ,and the female singer has a lovely voice! We havent eaten here for a long time ( since before covid), but Im really happy to dine here again. We certainly will be back again.
Charged me a 2.5% surcharge for using a credit card. They are charging premium prices. 7-9 a beer. Such billshit! They are not your local small business.
Was there for a music festival brunch, the food was very good, but there was no real service. The seating for the concert was very tight and seats were extremely uncomfortable. But it had very good acoustics, enhancing the atmosphere.
Rocking restaurant and bar on the bayside in Dewey Beach! Always some band entertainment every night during the summer!
After being here last year and back in june, we were very excited to show our friends a restaurant we really enjoy. We had a group of 10 and after we were finally seated, waited another 10 min for the server. Another 15 for the drinks we ordered and even another 10 to order just the appetizers. So after 45 min we were ready to order. Between the 2 times the server came to table, she NEVER came to check on us. Finally ordered food and that took another 30 min to receive. One person ordered the beyond burger with blu cheese, thinking it was blu cheese crumble. No it was a slice of purple marbled cheese that soured her appetite. Never have any of us seen sliced blu cheese. Extremely disappointing after we were very excited to come.back here.
Go for the view/atmosphere. Food is okay and overpriced. I had 3 crab cakes this weekend and this was by far the worst and most expensive. My friends steak was also not great. My husband got the fish and chips which is hard to ruin so it was good. His first grapefruit crush may have been missing an ingredient, but the second one was good.I will say the fried green beans were AMAZING. Tip: Get extra of the dipping sauce to make the mediocre fries way better when you get your meal.
Came for dinner and stayed after for live music Food was fine, but changes drasticly after 9pm. Staff is mixed, but leans towards unfriendly and unapologetic. Drinks were weak (at the table or the bar later) and cover is $10 after 9pm on weekends - do not step a foot off the property (to grab something from the car or for a smoke) or expect to be charged another cover CASH ONLY. Lots of bouncers everywhere itching to toss you out. Also vomit all over the bathroom before 10pm left to sit all night, really? Maybe focus on those people.Fees:2.5% credit card transaction fee, every transaction$3/hr parking, $36 max/lost ticket$10 cover (free before 9pm but dont leave for any reason)
Rusty Rudder....a staple in Dewey Beach history! Great bands, with a deck right on the water. Multiple bars outside and a whole separate venue inside. I always hear great things about the buffet and restaurant, but havent eaten there in a really long time. Locals Night with Love Seed Mama Jump is a now 27 year tradition. Check this place out on a Thursday and enjoy great music and great fun, locals style!!
Food was good and waitstaff was excellent. However there was a very rude manager near the hostess stand that would not allow us to change our table. We were seated at an elevated deck and the wind was was whipping. I asked to move to the lower deck where it was less windy. The three kids in our party were cold. The nasty manager first said we could not move because we would have a different server. I offered to close out the tab for the drinks we ordered so we could move. She would not budge. There were several tables that were vacant and could accommodate us but she claimed people were already called to those tables. That was a lie because I kept my eye on those tables and they were not occupied. Lousy customer service. Wont go back. Too many other restaurants I will spend my money at. Nothing special here.
Location is great, food is not, prices are decent considering
Went around 4pm on a Monday with 7 people. Got a table right away outside on the deck. They have Alaskan Snow crab legs on the menu which made my week. Decent size menu. Lots of drink options. The service was okay, we got a couple things mixed up on our order but there were 7 of us and the waitress took the one order off the bill and we received the right order very fast! I would recommend!
Love this place is always been one of my favorite places in Dewey. Food, good music and great staff. Definitely have to give the rudder a try for both meals and nightlife not to mention the orange crushes. There are amazing.
We have the most beautiful memory as a family at this place. It was May, and it was a beautiful day - May 19, 2017, to be exact. I recall because my wife was pregnant with our 3rd daughter, and we decided to randomly head here for lunch as it was a favorite place of ours. There is a picture of me splashing in the bay in front of the restaurant with our two girls, taken by my wife sitting up at the table on the deck. The food was good, and the time and location on the bay was memorable. That was the last time we were at the Rusty Rudder, and thats what took us back this time, all these years later. We had about the opposite experience, for which I am very sad. The food tasted cheap (but wasnt inexpensive - whoever put this place as $$ is missing one); the cocktails we got were mediocre and expensive (no drink prices on the menu - go figure); and they ditched draft beers in favor of bottles. I just didnt get it (and why do I want to pay draft prices for bottled beer just because I am on the water). We had been there about a half dozen times in the past, and this last experience permanently steered us away. It was the most disappointing meal I had on our trip - and we ate breakfast at WaWa one day (which was surprisingly good but made better by being so cheap). Our bill was over $200 for the 5 of us, and it was next to Disney World in the ratio of quality:price for me.So, kind of like going back and watching Voltron as an adult - better to leave the nostalgia behind and leave the perfectness of it as a memory, because to watch it today is a bit of a letdown. We wont go back.
Music was actually incredible I didnt expect it at all. Will definitely come back
You know it is bad when the bartender didnt recommend anything on the menu and doesnt eat here. 😂 15 bucks for 2 beers, no thanks. The property itself is awesome and perfect view. This place was nice back I. The day. Not anymore.
Great Atmosphere - Service was ok. Apps were not good, chips were stale, guacamole was frozen crushed avocados with nothing in it.Our Main Meal was tasty. Great to drink & hang out but not so much for snacking.
Great view, good place for music and just relax.
We were there for a banana boat ride and decided to get lunch. Service was glacially slow and the server definitely wanted to be somewhere else. Food was average and the atmosphere was eh. Also, way too tight of tables so I constantly had to move to let a server or other guest reach a table beyond me.
Google says the Rusty Rudder is open. Walked around like the sign said and there were two people behind the bar. They looked at us and we said “Hi” but the guy closest just looked away. We walked in to look for staff to be seated because all the doors and windows were open. Bar staff watched us do that and said nothing. We walked back down and asked the male bartender if it was open and he said with an obvious attitude “no” without even looking at us. When we walked up he could’ve just said it was closed, not hard to be courteous. We won’t bother coming back.
We had our rehearsal dinner at Rusty Rudder and from start to finish everyone was incredibly accommodating and so friendly! They drafted up the menu we wanted weela in advance, Chris took super good care of our party that night and everyone raved about how delicious the food was! We are so grateful and we will definitely be back!
Great food and very friendly service by the waitstaff. The view was beautiful right on the water. Took a lot of pictures. There was a live band playing as well.I believe the band plays every weekend. Definitely stop by if you want to listen to live music while enjoying your meal. Overall, it was a great experience!
The food was decent but the service was terrible. We waited 20 minutes just for our drinks. Then one of them was wrong. Our food took forever and we had to ask if it was coming. We paid our bill in cash and the waiter gave us the wrong amount back and shorted us by $10. We had to chase him down to get the difference where he tried to tell us our bill was a different amount then what was on the receipt. He finally checked and apologized giving us the difference. The view is beautiful but that was the worst service I have ever had and will absolutely not be returning.
The view is fantastic at sunset, great vibe in Dewey Beach!
We stopped in for the first time for drinks and were not disappointed! The staff was friendly and the outdoor atmosphere a major plus - we will be back!! The bartender AJ kept us entertained and was amazingly attentive to every single order we needed. Ask for AJ - you won’t be let down!
NYE party experience. I don’t typically go to the Rusty Rudder since I’m still in my twenties, but we knew one of the bands playing on NYE. Tickets were $110 per person with $9 processing fee. Event description was “upscale food, open bar, and fireworks.”Apparently the Rudder thinks the word upscale means deep fried. Lots of spring rolls, egg rolls, chicken wings, chicken tenders. I will say the chicken wings were delicious and the catering staff did a great job keeping everything stocked. The bar experience was somehow more disappointing than the “upscale” chicken tenders. The bars were heinously understaffed which really seemed like a great business tactic to save money on “open bar” night if people have to wait 1hr+ for drinks. Some of the bartenders were killing it, attentive, efficient, professional, but few and far between. Others were your typical beach bartenders with their weird god complexes who do a shot every time a customer orders one and hits their weed pens with their homies while you’re waiting for a drink. The easiest place to order a drink was the back deck bar behind the band. But only if you were a lady and enjoyed your order being made wrong. Twice. Don’t worry though! If you can’t stand the wait at the bar and you’re thirsty, they had buckets of drinks sitting out. You could choose from water, brands of seltzer you’ve never heard of in the reject flavors no one drinks, or left over shandy that was so gross they couldn’t sell it all before summer ended.Overall, poor event planning, mediocre bartenders, good chicken wings, good bands. We left by 11 and went to the Dewey Beach Country Club, stayed until close, and had a great night!By the way, starboard has a pasta bar for $40 that night and they make a better orange crush.
Service was slow and not super friendly. The food was mediocre. The atmosphere was nice. We got to see the sunset with our dinner. The restaurant next door had live music that was so much louder than the live music here. They make you pay $3 per hour for parking at their restaurant which seems like a rip off to me.
This is a great place to grab a bite and relax. Beautiful views of the Delaware Bay mixed with some live music made for an incredible weekend experience. The food was delicious and reasonably priced.
Thats all they had was atmosphere. The food was terrible. We just got cheeseburgers and they were terrible. Charged $.75 for raw onion. Pitiful. Applebees burgers are much better and half the price. I wont go back.
Food was great for bar food. Suggest sticking with the bar basics, burgers and anything fried. Fries were delicious. Hostess was pretty rude but the bartender and our server were great!
Not able to recommend this place. The service was slightly lacking (Ill chock that up to lack of staff on hand), everyone was friendly. With that said, value is missing. At the time of writing, a bottle of bud light is about 7 bucks. Mixed drinks are at slightly above average market price. There are no deals on the menu. A cheap bite looks like an average bowl of soup for 10 bucks and a side of fries for 3. A basket of fries goes for 6 (somewhat reasonable) but 7 for a little old bay and 8 for cheese on top. The music was good, but this place is a bit reliant on older tourists/locals. Its a great restaurant concept, but you could go to the boardwalk and get the same great view and live music at a better rate for your food. There are so many great seafood places in this area, I am pressed to recommend this place due to the great competition they have. Just because its outside your hotel window, does not make it a good deal. The food was good, but not good enough to justify the price you pay.
Great view of the ocean. Good party atmosphere. I grit the shrimp salad sandwich, I felt it could use some more flavor. The rest of my party enjoyed their food. Our waitress was great. I would go back.
Im going to be honest with you. My boyfriend and I went to this restaurant with high hopes. We had gone last year and it was so amazing. However, this time there were no redeeming quality in the food. Actually I lied the one redeeming quality was the soda and the CANNED beer. We both got the Alaskan crab legs and they were anemic 🫠 and we only got three small potatoes and a unhealthy looking corn. Our waitress was so kind however food sucked. Also one of the older ladies at the front was very condensing to an older couple with a baby and stroller. That left an even worse taste in our mouths than the crabs. Not to sound like an ambassador but I personally would pay far more for the lighthouse right next door!! Now my boyfriend and I never complain but we do not want someone else to experience this disappointment :( Again I would never do something like this but I was very upset.
Absolutely worst bar i’ve been to! 4th of july weekend and I expect a long wait for a drink at the bar… didnt expect waiting for 30 minutes while the bartenders just sat and looked at me and my hispanic friends like we were children. All while serving manyyy older white men that came after us. After sitting in a ladys face for 30 minutes, im sure she knew what she was doing. I asked what the wait was and was told “not our problem” and another lady asked for napkins from a bartender and she mumbled “nobody has time for that”. Definitely wont be getting any money from me😊
Went to sit down and hostess was rude . When we were sitting asking for an umbrella due to medical issue . Hostess said couldn’t do it. When we got a table and was able to get one the umbrella took off flying . Almost hit another family . Went to hostess to ask for inside she said couldn’t do that and was rude and nasty . Finally got manager but was upset to stay.
The only restaurant I’ve ever been to where they don’t have miller lite and charge their customers to park. They have all bud lite products. Definitely catering to gays. We won’t be back!
A great live music venue right on the marina. Such an awesome spot to watch the sunset. The live music was great but there is a $10 cover charge later on (we arrive after 9pm). You can order late night snacks from a limited menu.
We always enjoy the live music with water views. Definitely a younger crowd but they don’t mind a family there honing in on their fun. Food and service have always been spot on. Bartender was none too friendly nor was hostess but waitress was fantastic. Hey let’s be honest, it’s hard to get restaurant staff these days so can understand some ornery folks working. Anyway we come every year and always have fun.
Great place to grab dinner with the family. We saw Chris Diller perform outside on the deck — dude rocks! Highly recommend the Rusty Rudder if you’re in Dewey Beach!
This “staple” bar/grill definitely relies on name recognition, the food was almost okay and the drinks were a little overpriced. The biggest surprise was when the sandwich “with coleslaw and chips” came with a little bag of brand name chips, not homemade hot chips. Everything is also served on paper plates with plastic utensils, which is a surprising decision for restaurant right on the water that relies on healthy sea life for most of their menu. The music was great tho!
We’ve been visiting for years, and primarily for the atmosphere and not necessarily the food. Last year I’d have given 3 stars. This year…5+ stars! The food was amazing and I asked our waitress about a possible change in chef. She said it’s the same chef, just that all recipes were improved. What a difference! The food was amazing, reasonably priced fir the location, and service was excellent. Heading there now for our second meal this week.
Food was sub par and service wasnt great. No slush drinks for lunch. The fish and chips tasted off, the fries were ok. Crab cake is way too small for the price, burger had gristle in it and the kids chicken fingers were overcooked and dry. Family of four was $96 for lunch. Very disappointed. No one refilled our drinks the entire visit. Im usually very easy going and pretty forgiving on reviews as you would see on my other reviews, with this one I just cant.
We go here 2-3 time a week. We are locals. The service and food have gone downhill for the last 4 years. Tonight they wouldn’t seat 4 of us it a table for 10. They said 6 of us had to be there. My children were hungry and the rest of the people were on the way. Literally down the street. But, wouldn’t hold it either. I go to support the bands that we love and are friends with. The singer asked manager if we could be seated. Manager still was resistant. So I asked if we could get a six top. She said not until all 6 get here. So they would have seated 10 top with 6, but not a 6 top for 4. Then I see 2 people seated in a 6 top and point that out. She just says they shouldn’t be there, but doesn’t do anything about it.My friends go there 10 minutes later and now and there is only a six top available and 8 of us have to squeeze in. The when we’re walking to the table and they make snarky remarks lol you don’t have to come here. Last year my husband gave $150 tip on a $50 bill to the only good waiter we’ve had.I’ve been coming here 22 years and this is how they treated regulars who tip well and spend a lot of money there.
I have 9kids and Im the busiest midwife staying here from Pa.. thank you, for a normal experience with my kids, the music, the food and drinks.. and nobody cared that we have 9 freaking kids.Really great food. Short wait for 100people. Kids can be loud. & The drinks are strong.
Highly overpriced [mostly] fried food. $25 for 3 Land Sharks?? They dont serve draft beer, Coors Lite, or Miller Lite. You have to pay to park, and they dont reimburse you, even after spending $126. Wait staff isnt friendly either.
The only good thing about our experience with the Rusty Rudder was the quality of the food! First off, you need to pay to park there to buy their overpriced food! We were a party of 8, and we needed 3 separate checks. The waitress informed us that they only do one. So that left us to figure out who pays what. We were quite annoyed. I assume that is because then they can force you to pay 18% gratuity, regardless of the quality of service. Our table was actually 2 tables put together, and 1 of them had a sign that said it will be moved at 9 pm. We didnt order until about 8 pm! When I asked our waitress if the table will be moved, she seemed to have an attitude about it, and said no, because you didnt even get your food yet. My husband and I each ordered the fish and chips, and we each received a pile of fries with a tiny piece of fish--for $23 EACH! Although there was no description as to how much fish you get, the picture showed multiple pieces. Additionally, when the waitress brought food or drinks to us, she would only hand them to one of us at the one corner of the table to pass to each other, even though there were plenty of other places where she could have served the food or drinks to the appropriate person. It took a long time for us to get our food, and I cant help but wonder if thats intentional so that you need to pay more for parking. After the meal and spending time figuring out who pays what, we asked the waitress if they will take more than one payment. She said they will accept 2 cards and the rest can be cash. But they cannot split up the bill?! We ended up asking to speak to the manager who said that it was stated on the menu, but who looks at the menu for something like that? The manager also unsympathetically said that is the policy and that we were to expect that because this is a resort town. This is unacceptable!
Went for dinner after all the other restaurants had an hour wait time and they could seat us right away. The service was great and the only reason for a two star review. The food left much to be desired, it is just hyped up bar food and the drinks were crazy expensive. Then you have to pay to park in the parking lot for dinner. Will never go back there to eat. There are many other great restaurants in the area that don’t charge you to park and the drinks are cheaper and better.
We docked to grab a bite and drinks to go... food menu was very underwhelming so we passed on the food. Prices a little steep but thats how everything is trending these days. Our server was very attentive, friendly and nice.We tried to get crushes to go.. our server checked with the bartender, he was told that we needed to purchase > $10 worth of food to get to go drinks? Seemed arbitrary from our view. Maybe there are regulations were unaware of.
Another great bay side restaurant in Dewey Beach. Great open beach vibe. Started off with an excellent rum punch drink. Highly recommend this. Our apps of crab dip, wings with the crab seasoning and the steamed little neck clams were outstanding! Our dinners of lobster roll, crab cake sandwich and the fish and dips were very good. But there should be more than one piece of fried fish, lol. Key lime pie is very good too. Our waitress, Mackenzie was great. Courteous and always smiling. Definitely recommend this and we will be back again soon!!
Staff was quick and so pleasant. I was here 15 years ago and its only gotten better. Loved the atmosphere and if youre into a view while you eat, sit outside. Literally a prefect end to my vacation. Try the watermelon crush w/ Redhill. Tastes like a fruit by the foot. Food was great as well. Recommend the sampler of you cant make up your mind like me.
The crab sandwiches here are top notch. My wife really enjoyed her lump crab sandwich. I enjoyed my crab imperial sandwich and my son got the mac and cheese. The service was good and we were not rushed and enjoyed a nice day by the bay. In case you also want to bring your favorite dog along, you can do that as well. A great lunch at Dewey Beach for sure. Enjoy!
The setting is lovely and the food was good not five star food but good. I was very annoyed though when we were done eating half of our party was in the bathroom and the wait staff came over to ask us if we were done so they could remove our table and set up the dance floor. we were not done with our drinks and other people were still eating but they were in a hurry to get us out of there because we were not purchasing anymore I guess.
Security on a power trip. Literally did nothing wrong. Was tossed on New Years and lost a shoe. Outside security needs handled. will not revisit with a big party
Great venue. On a sunny day you can walk out on the dock and enjoy a beautiful view. Their beer selection leaves something to be desired. But if you want some light fare and a refreshing crush mid day this is for you. They also have local bands scheduled which are advertised. Large outdoor seating area with views of the bay.
Great live music and delicious food
Great people.. CHRIS .good person I dropped off equipment from our Company BEL.COM had serviced. So I had lunch and a drink. My fries got cold fast. Heat Needs to be kept closer to product & not to far from heat lamp. Certain products need to be HOT!! other that that all good.. Drink was great and Nice Bartender. And I had a Awesome crab bisque soup.
Place is decent. Live music, staff is fairly friendly, they do a good job at attending to your needs. Bathrooms smell like a portapotty, and are hit or miss in cleanliness. One of my gripes here is that a table can only get one check and only split once. Kind of frustrating, and they fall back on it says it on the menu. While they arent wrong, it does say it, at the bottom in small print.
The view is great. The music by Mariella and Sam was awesome. The service was okay, they could improve. The food was okay. We had the nachos, we felt like we were eating chips, lettuce and tomatoes with jalapeno. We both ordered the flat iron steak with onions and mushrooms. Our steaks were 2 different sizes. We had to ask our waitress for everything including a steak knife.
Spend your money anywhere else but here. As a former employee I can tell you all these people are just money hungry. There’s mold in the ice and they don’t properly clean silverware. Overpriced for bland tasteless food and angry, mean management who is not only mean to customers, but also picks on and bullies new servers.
Sunday Brunch - 3 Alarm Fire featuring Jackiem Joyner, Maysa & Art Sherrod, Jr.; amazing meal and show. Beautiful experience.....
If I could give this review zero stars I would. Like many others we enjoy a yearly beach vacation and part of that vacation is coming for the buffet, which was one of our favorites. My husband and I have been coming here for 10 years and he’s been coming to the Rudder since he was a kid so close to 20 years. We came early to beat the crowd and noticed that the parking lot was not very full. Now we know why, we came for the buffet and got a very limited menu of choices. When we we asked to have a table inside we were sat in one of three indoor seating areas that was wide open out the bay with the doors open. We might as well have been sat outside. After being on the beach all day it’s nice to enjoy a meal inside in air conditioning and not have to swat flies away from your meal. The chairs at our table were sticky which was gross to start out with before eating. As for the food, my husband got the seafood platter, which was $31 and it was not worth the cost. If your meal comes with chips, which are Herr’s Kettle Chips, and you want to substitute fries it’s an extra $2.50. Overall I’m sorry to say that we will not be back and will no longer be recommending the Rudder. My recommendation to the Rudder, self reflect on why you’ve been a staple in many people’s vacations.
I’d leave zero stars if applicable. The waitress was inattentive and never once came to check and see how our food was after it was delivered to the table. It was insanely overpriced!! My crab cake sandwich, I mean slider, had next to no flavor and not to mention it cost $36 (you read that correctly) and was served with a .75 bag of chips and coleslaw. The kids food was served with packaged applesauce. The chips and applesauce could have been plated to at least be more appeasing on the stomach. I was shocked when the check arrived only to find out I was charged $2 for tap water. This restaurant is trying to be a caviar restaurant on a pollock budget. The restaurant left me with nothing but flatulence, feeling like I needed to stop for fast food and an empty wallet. Besides the view of the bay and the eye candy bartenders, don’t waste your time or money.
$9 bottles of domestics.Pass if youre thinking about not going.
The waterman crushes were delicious however the service sucked. We weren’t even offered a menu…took several minutes to get waited on for a drink. I guess if your butts not out and your not 22 you don’t get good service. Leaving to go where we are treated as welcomed. Remember mature women tips sorry you only got $2.
Hostess was awful! We walked up in a Saturday evening for dinner. I greeted and spoke and she just looked at me. We stood there for a minute and she starts walking never uttering a word! We werent sure if we were to follow her, but we did. Never said anything! Fortunately our server was great! The crab cake is billed as being huge for $30. It is not, but it was good .
It is for outdoor dining its open and had a wonderful breeze blowing our server was very helpful he knew the menu and helped us make a great choice. It had live music and they sound great. Big long pier going out into the bay what a great view.It was child friendly Dog friendly just a wonderful place to enjoy a meal and relax. I am so glad we made the trip to Dewy and found this 🦞🦀🦪🛥🌊gem 💎
Nice casual place to eat on the east coast. Its a sea food place and the serve other foods to. They had a live band playing that sang a variety of music. You can choose to eat indoors or outside. Very popular place for the locals. Service was not the best but could be more friendly toward the customers. I would go eat there again.
My granddaughter, (ex) daughter-in-law and I spent a long weekend at Dewey Beach. I must say that Rusty Rudder was my favorite place! The band was phenomenal, wait staff was excellent and our bartender, A.J., made our night extra special. Can’t say enough nice things about this place. If you are able to visit Dewey Beach or Rehobeth Beach in Delaware, stop in if you like fun and dancing and great food.
I will say, I was a little hesitant to eat here because of how crowded it was, usually very crowded places don’t do great with service or food because there’s too many people.I was so wrong! The staff were so attentive even though we had a big party of people, they were quick with drinks and our food came out quick and was well prepared. I really loved the Gochujang Cauliflower, so delicious. Live music was lovely to listen to as well as we ate on the water.
We have been coming to this restaurant for 30+ years and loved the buffet, one of the best around. Now they make you pay 3$ an hour for parking and make you walk around the whole restaurant looking for the host stand and you get a nice breath of cigarettes when you walk right through the front door! If you love filth and paying for parking come on in to the corrosive rudder! (DONT GO)
The food and drinks were great. The reason for the low rating is that our hostess was taking shots with other table patrons (at least 3 shots that we saw). Our hostess then charged us $70 extra dollars for drinks we never received. We were compensated but I’m pretty sure you’re not supposed to drink on the job...
Sat outside under cover. Dinner was ok, nothing to write home about. Except for the very loud, boisterous, intoxicated group next to us. Several other people declined being seated near them. Totally ruined our meal. And I have never seen a restaurant that charges you to park in their own parking lot. Only $3 per hour! We wont be back.
Kind of a dump. Waited 15 minutes for someone to take our order, and then we started waving down other waitresses to find the one that was handling our table. When she finally came over, she had a really bad attitude. The seafood dishes we ordered were mostly french fries with a few shrimp and a small crab cake. The best part of the night was watching the 50 somethings yell at the band to keep playing Jimmy Buffet. One of the guys in the band played the saxophone, so deserves a second star.
Awesome water view, phenomenal service by Jeff, so great I returned for a second night. Long Island iced teas nailed it, live music both nights and food was very tasty; first night I enjoyed the fried fish appetizer and the fish tacos were delicious. Second night had the steak cooked just right, fries seasoned great and very good coleslaw. Cant wait to go back.
The bar itself was well staffed with plenty of seating. There are also tables for dine in eating/drinking. The view of the dock and the water is perfect for a sunset dinner. The drinks are a little pricey but it is well worth it. There is parking that some days youll have to pay for.
The Rusty Rudder has always been an iconic place for my family to dine while visiting the shore. Known for their famous Seafood buffet...I took a chance going to their Mothers Day brunch. WOW, what a spread! They were very busy but seated us promptly...this place is huge and well equipped to handle any volume of diners. It is a great place for families. The ice cream sundae bar kept my kids attention. My family enjoyed our buffet brunch while overlooking the beautiful Rehoboth bay. The views are the best around...just wish we could have stayed longer to watch the sunset!Good food, great music and an incredible view. The Rusty Rudder never disappoints.
Waitstaff was super friendly and helpful. Food arrived quickly for our group. Food was good, but the location is amazing. Beautiful sunset views. Bands were great too. A fun Wednesday night!
We brought a group of friends from Maryland this past weekend, and they loved it as much as we do.. We love the food, atmosphere, and good time feel. We will see you again Memorial Day Weekend until then keep dropping it like its hot.
I will never go to this place again. I do not recommend it to anyone. Food was ok but the service was terrible. We stayed after we ate to listen to the band. They were fun! But at the end of the night they were literally pushing people out a minute after they closed. It was pouring rain and they wouldn’t let us stand under the awning for our ride to arrive in 6 minutes. One of the employees was screaming inappropriate things to someone. I saw one guy be pushed down the stairs by an employee. one girl just asked to use the restroom was literally pushed away. I still can’t believe how rude all employees were.
Awesome! We had a great night here, although it was rush hour and at its busiest time of the year, service was great. We sat by the bar for 20 minutes had couple of drinks until a table was ready for us.Food is great, Appetizers: fried lobster tail & steamed shrimp and clams were delicious. We ordered a seafood lovers plater and shared it (2ppl) it was fresh, delicious and satisfying.Waitress was really kind and friendly.Highly recommend
