Headline: This is THE place to be if you want a fun, memorable night of dancing and nightlife in NYC. EDIT: Came back another time after this — still a phenomenal clubbing experience.Details: I’m no stranger to nightclubs, and I’m sure everyone is used to the nightclubs with the (boring) house music and it’s a one-dimensional experience. The music here is not that different from the aforementioned music, the experience certainly is. There’s a LARGE main dance floor with elevated surfaces, performances, a high ceiling, lights, and I think it’s important to note that it’s not all fenced off for reserved tables; in fact it seemed like it was all general access, which is fantastic.Exploring the other spaces: there’s a karaoke room, multiple bars, a casino/minigame type space, confetti room, mirror room — the service and energy of the people working here is amazing. You won’t be bored, there are things to do, and a night to live! My friend and I got our tickets about a week in advance for the earliest (cheapest) time slot and the space got busy pretty quickly, so don’t be worried about an early time slot. 10/10 I want to come back, the most memorable nightclub I’ve been to in NYC so far.EDIT: A friend who loves to party came into town, and after mulling over places to go clubbing, this is where I settled on (I was only resisting because I wanted to try somewhere I hadn’t been, but I knew all along this was the right choice for her). It was, maybe if possible, an even better experience the second time. Did NOT disappoint — so much fun with the people and the dancing and the vibes; so highly recommend!
It’s definitely a good time if you’re having a birthday or want to try something new. Best smelling club ever😂 Incense in the bathrooms. It’s gets weird here and there’s a show that keeps you entertained the whole night. So weird so it’s a lot of fun if you’re into that. Music was great all night. Dancers everywhere. I will definitely be back!!Only showing videos of things I could post online here … the weirder stuff you have to come and see for yourself
Love this venue! There’s no shortage of things to entertain you with multiple floors to explore, crazy decor on every surface and live performance artists of every sort roaming around. It’s like house of yes but with way more space which makes it a way better experience. Incredibly nice staff as well from the front door hostess to the bar staff. So rare to have an overwhelmingly positive club experience in the middle of Manhattan!
This place was interesting, i loved everything about it - the shows, the music, the wacky awesome decor but didn’t like the crowd. it was unfortunate! still, with the right music, its doable… the speakers aren’t the best but the Stranger team really puts so much energy and effort into making your night a fun, unique and memorable experience…so I feel it deserves 5 stars. Even if my Heineken was $12 💚
Great time, and great performances but the drinks are insanely pricey at $30ish each. Not cool that they already sneak the tip into the price then ask you to tip on it again which is hard to catch. I tipped twice because of that and realized after. No way to push a back button. My friend paid $40 for one drink. I paid about $30 for a simple house vodka sprite. Also dont leave anything in coat check. There is no clear way to get it back on the website and if you call to ask they will hang up on you before you even finish asking where to access lost and found. Well thats what happened to me and I was being very friendly. I sent an email to the help address on the website and no one has replied. I need my jacket before I leave town and just need to know if someone will be there if I make the hour trip to go there today.Update: Came to the location to see if I could talk to someone since no one has responded to my emails or calls about what was left. No one here. Guess they have zero avenues to help you if you are leaving town. I repeat, dont use the coat check and dont leave anything at this club. If this was your wallet or cell phone you would be in a very bad position.
It was a really cool and creative set-up with amazing performances, but there is nothing in place to make the people who come in behave appropriately. The dance floor quickly became swamped with wasted finance bros and tourists. There’s a special interactive performance room that opens up after midnight but the people my friends and I were put into the room with were very loudly and constantly homophobic. One dude in his 20’s kept shoving me and cursing at me to get me to get out of line in front of him, and although I ignored him, I ended up in the performance room next to him, where we were supposed to play games like suck and blow. The performers were amazing but since they were both clowning and LGBTQ+ as character, all visible queerness was portrayed in that joking nature. Living in Brooklyn, it’s been a long time since I’ve been in such a queer-hostile space, with slurs and graphic sex acts shouted as threats. A consent door speech, as well as guardians to monitor and eject are necessary, because this is not an LGBTQIA+ safe space.(Also there’s no water easily available, which feels like another discomfort)
Now this is what you want in a nightclub - character, variety and just good vibes all around. There are three floors - a basement house music floor, the main performance floor and an upper activity floor (with karaoke, blackjack etc). The service team are very friendly and hospitable, and while prices are on the much higher end, you’re getting an unmatched entertainment experience. Definitely worth considering table service if you’re coming in groups.
We had the absolute best time for a night out on my Bachelorette trip. There’s games to play, face paint, karaoke, a comedy room and so much more. Dancers everywhere putting on a crazy show! One of the best club experiences I’ve had in NYC. Music was great lots of techno which never disappoints. My friends who don’t go clubbing often even had the best time. It got packed by 1-2am but didn’t stop our fun. Will absolutely be going back!!!
This club is different and entertaining with various performers and dancers who keep the fun going all night. My only criticism is regarding the music. I visited on a Friday, and for two hours I listened to the same few beats on a loop. Playing more relevant/trendy music plus a bit of EDM instead of exclusively Megan Thee Stallion would greatly improve the experience at this venue.
Not the typical club and that’s amazing! Strange, bizarre, a different vibe, the dancers just WOW!!!, it has to become one of the best nightclubs in NYC. This place is on another level, you have to see it for yourself but I just think they’re going to become very picky at the front, we will see.I’m coming back forsureeeee.
This place is almost impossible to describe. It’s wild. One minute you’re watching a circus act, the next you’re gambling for a hotel key card or getting some beads after using the restroom. It’s nonstop sensory fun.You most go. The experience is unlike any other. So fun. I can’t wait to go again. I’ll certainly bring all my friends.
I think the stranger is reaching for an opulent experience but falls short in many ways. The performers aren’t really giving a show, cocktails are $30, tickets range from $30-60 depending on how early you purchase your tickets. For this to be adjacent to Hell Kitchens great nightlife, fairly priced cocktails and no covers, the stranger is the complete opposite. The space it’s self is fun and great for a photo op, but that’s where it stops. I can’t really recommend this as a go to venue like House of Yes, but for a one off night or for tourist it would make sense.
I had a horrible experience with Laser. He double charged me for a shot. I don’t recommend him at all. UPDATE (08/20): The matter was solved promptly, and I am really satisfied with the team. Thank you very much!
This is not your typical club. Walk through the doors and be dropped into a multi-level experience where you can seek out your own adventure. There is not an inch that hasnt been crafted into art. If you are looking to sit at a table to impress with the size of your Grey Goose then this scene isnt for you. Yes its crowded in areas, but thats part of the energy. Head downstairs for a more intimate experience with some of the best house DJs Ive heard in a long while. Main floor is madness, but in a good way. Remember this is no granny lounge, wear your dancing shoes and feel it. Upstairs get lost in smaller rooms, and seating areas where you can hold a conversation if you wish. Everyone was friendly, multitudes of performers impressed, and if you get the chance be dazzled by Mark Mittons magic. mind blowing. Good times all around.
Had such a good time here! The black jack table and dare wheel are so much fun. The bartenders are amazing as well! The performers were also very good. Would definitely recommend this place for a fun night out.
Wouldn’t recommend for anyone over the age of 25 or gay people. Obnoxiously bro-y straight atmosphere. Female bartender served a woman and a white man before me despite me being right in front of her and in line before them.
If youve ever been to House of Yes this is like that 10x. Its a true dance club with so many activities inside for everyone. Its like an adult fun house. If someone ask you to go on a ghost tour say yes. Oh and something overlooked but is important is arriving at open. Its worth the entire experience. Great place.
Definitely pricey. From the cover, to the drinks you will spend some money here. That being said, it’s definitely worth it. The crowd was friendly, and the staff are all friendly - everyone is more than happy to talk to you. They have a lot of performers/games to keep you busy if you want to get off the dance floor.
I recently attended the Saturday night mind-blowing performances at a popular NYC nightclub, and it was truly out of this world! In particular Hodo Aliens performance and unique style, her mesmerizing dance routines, and stunning visual effects created an immersive experience that left me in awe. Her energy and connection with the audience were infectious, making it an unforgettable night. Hope to stop by again in the future to witness the extraterrestrial magic!
Okay this has to be documented because a year ago i visited the stranger with a group of acquaintances, did not drink at all but had the most amazing time kind of all by myself? i didnt pay when i went last time thanks to a promo code but we paid $25 each to get in before 11 and yes, i know thats early but why let people in before youve set up?? the frick frack blackjack was gone, the bottom floor was closed, the crowd was not good like not lgbtqia+ friendly, and i was so sadthe experience was completely different from when i went last time, the karaoke room, the fortune teller, the hidden gems, performances, the tarot card reader, the blackjack & die game, none of it was there & it was very hard to communicate with the staff to get answers and understand what was going onbeyond that though, ill just say the crowd is really what killed it - some of the comments that people said while we waited in line for the bathroom had me wondering if it was their first time in a queer-friendly environment or worse, if i had misread the stranger as being queer-friendly :(it was also tragic to bring people here (& convince them to pay when there are so many other options in ny!) after raving about it and having this experience
The Stranger truly lived up to its name, offering an array of weird and eclectic performances that added a unique twist to our night out. With acts spread across various rooms, the exploration aspect added an exciting dynamic to the experience. Admittedly, the crowd was younger and a bit unrefined, attributable to the open-door policy, but we found our people in the karaoke room, belting out tunes and sharing laughs. The night took another fun turn when we stumbled upon the downstairs dance floor, where we grooved until the early hours. The Stranger, with its eccentric ambiance and varied entertainment options, provides a memorable night out, even if its crowd could benefit from a more curated selection process.
Interesting, fun club. Second time there, always different performances, good Dj’s. Worth the price!
This venue was incredible. One of the coolest clubs Ive been to in the world. The person who put this together put so much thought into this. Amazing decor and entertainment. The DJs were also incredible. My only complaint is actually something that isnt the venues fault. The people there suckeddddd. Bunch of smelly tech bros and stuffy rich people. But again, not venues fault. The venue was perfect (except maybe get rid of that karoke room, nope). Its worth going but it deserves a better crowd.
Tickets were ~$50 and the rooms were all closed, nice crowd good music but not worth the price if you can’t access all the rooms
Besides having such a fun night, I wanna say they have THE BEST STAFF! Everyone is so nice and kind.Ps: love love love John Brown
Amazing night. 🎇This is what we call a true nightclub. We didn’t realize the time passing. Shows on shows, it never stopped, it was beautiful. Everyone was adorable from the coat check to the bar even some of the performers who were passing by us.Also I loved the fact that people were just being themselves in this club.I will be back ♥️
I ended up here because a friend was visiting and they wanted to check it out. Its was fun for a one time experience but its a super gimmicky club. Its trying hard to be a cool avant garde underground club in Brooklyn with overpriced drinks that include tips. They trick you into paying more tips because they are not transparent about tips being included with the drinks. Ask for a hard copy of your receipt before you pay.The crowd was mostly tourists with a sprinkle of finance bros and UES/UWS crowd. The performers were trying a bit too hard to be extra weird to create this illusion of something truly artistically intriguing.
I almost thought about giving this place one star just to balance the obviously planted/fake 5 star reviews. Let’s be fair. The place is fine. The COCKTAILS ARE INSANELY PRICED AT $31… it’s not even a clever price gouge for the club to make money as I saw several people with smuggled in booze. The layout is horrible. It’s just all unnecessary traffic. It makes it seem crowded but there is actually just heaps of random open spaces in random places. To me it read as someone who has seen clubs like this in Brooklyn and thought- I can pay to recreate this, but it’s missing a lot of magic. If you are going here, the sound system is decent. The performers are amazing, there was one monster costume that was hilarious. The magic show I saw was out of this world and the bathroom lines were really manageable. But…. Overall, if you never get around to this place… you’re not missing anything. You can save the price of a drink or two at the stranger and instead Uber to Brooklyn to pay way less for the experience you were trying to have.
I had an absolutely incredible experience! The venue was exquisitely designed with a remarkable creative touch. The acts were truly breathtaking, leaving me in awe. Moreover, the performers and staff were exceptionally kind and accommodating, going above and beyond to ensure a delightful experience for everyone. I wholeheartedly recommend this phenomenal spot to anyone seeking an unforgettable and enjoyable time. Enjoy the free popcorn!
Got there right at 11 which was a little weird cause it was empty but ended up being the right move. By 1am it was so uncomfortably crowded. Im sad I didnt see more of the performances but I couldnt handle the crowd. Was really fun before that
Utterly bonkers and so much fun. Ticket prices are high but it’s much more than a typical dance club. Think of it as a very inexpensive NYC show ticket rather that a club entrance. Half EDM club, half casino games for anything BUT money, half excellent burlesque show. Yeah, that’s three halves but it’s that kind of place.Staff is outstanding, everyone I interacted with was rock solid cool and kind.
It’s a good club but everyone hypes it up a bit too much. Def go if you’re in Manhattan but don’t go out of your way.
I Will NEVER come to The Stranger again! I wish I could give it ZERO stars. This place is basically a tourist and money trap, trying to pass as a unique and artsy/ queer experience but it is overshadowed by terrible customer service and corny, pretentious excess. I was there on Halloween night to celebrate a friends birthday. Wouldve thought with all the surrealism and artful presentation there would have been an amazing and unique party experience. Well after paying over $400 for just the entry tickets for my group of 3, I realized very quickly after entering that the place was a GIMMICK. For one, the actual club was divided and sectioned to ONE (1) available dance floor on Halloween night! A private party was being conducted in the downstairs area and no one was allowed to be admitted. There was absolutely no indication that there would be a private party limiting club space, and it sure didnt reflect the ticket prices for Halloween night. When I brought this to the attention of the manager, I was told there was nothing he could do and that they could not provide a refund or even a discount. So I payed full special event price for less than half of the clubs availability and an even lower barred experience. As a consolation I was given TWO (2) drink tickets which were not even enough for my party of 3 and the birthday friend had a terrible experience. I was highly dissapointed and felt basically robbed. Furthermore, the vibe overall was weak, the presentation for Halloween was just like any ordinary night with no costume appreciation or contest excitement...if there was it wouldve been nice to have these things communicated. Even staff, who are hired for their performance art seem to be just there to pass the time. And the overpriced and watered down drinks at the bar were shameful. This place is a complete and utter tourist trap and true new Yorkers should know to stay far away. It tries to lure people that want an experience like Brooklyns The House of Yes, but in Manhattan and comes off as a generic, repackaged and sterilized Queer/Alt/ Art House scene with zero Fx given for your feelings or bank account. I suppose only the desperate or extremely drunk would settle for this nonsense.
This place is great. Except for coat check. This place runs coat check like daycare. Just let a bunch of morons run around. “Is this your coat?” “I literally just handed you a ticket, how hard is this?” Don’t check your coat here, your will wait in line for an hour and it will literally destroy any good feelings you had about this place.
This place was terrible. the door person and one bartender were friendly. the performers barrel through you as if you weren’t standing there. young young crowd. if you’re 21 and wasted you may have a good time.
Worst club i’ve ever been to! the one bartender (worker?) wouldn’t let me and my friends into the “secret room” after waiting in line for an hour+. she gave ni explanation for this decision and told us after an hour and a half we weren’t getting in.i was also charged $62 for a double vodka soda and was nor informed tip was already included so left another tip.i then stepped outside for a quick smoke and they refused to let me back in despite all my friends being inside. as a result i was left alone on the street as a young woman with no way to contact my friends as their service did not workin the club. i explained this and there was no regard for my safety or anything.
Its a nice space but people were smoking cigarettes inside, which was somehow tolerated (despite the abundance of staff and personnel). Yuk. $40 for a corona and a gin/tonic. I probably wont go back.
To be quite honest, they discriminated against me based on an intellectual disability. P
It was a fun experience and overall a great night. The staff really gets into character and knows how to get the crowd involved. Shout out to the costume designers and make up team
Finally, a reason to go to midtown! The most exciting and unique club I’ve been to in a long time. The Stranger reminds me of places I frequent in Berlin and Prague - which is hard to find in NYC. It’s like a labyrinth inside with many intriguing rooms to explore and amazing DJs/music for dancing…plus cool, unexpected performances throughout. The vibes are wild, wacky, and sexy.
Meh. Shouldn’t have to squeeze through a mob of people on the dance floor just to enjoy the space. Way oversold which ruined the experience. $26/drink is ok but not after a $60 (after fees) price for entry. I’d go only if I had a table.
I had high hopes for this spot but there were way too many people to even move without sliding across some strangers nasty sweaty body. Seems like they went to house of yes and decided to make an even trashier version of it. Cheap “Art” everywhere, “performances? Lol okay, and the costumes the employees wear are laughable and awkward to look at with a straight face. This huge yet unkept space was a nightmare to navigate. Broken glass, spilled drinks, and vomit littered the floor. Literally had people spilling/falling into our private section, girls climbing on our sofas (not the employee dancers), got drinks spilled on me and my crew, and the overall vibe was just ronchi. Security are basically there as traffic control and service is impossible due to the sheer volume of people there. If you’re looking for a dope, fun, well organized, get what you pay for spot..this isn’t it. Whoever created this spot must have serious connections and a great marketing team because I don’t see real humans wanting to spend their money be here naturally or without influence. This place seems dirty and unsafe on so many levels. I won’t be returning, I’ll leave this one to the frat boys and reject nepo babies.
This place was AMAZING! I had so much fun because I can tell it was made BY queer people FOR queer people. That being said these frat/finance/tech bros were ruining the vibe for me throughout the night. I wish they were more selective about the people who attended.
If you’re under 18 this is the place they don’t care!!!!!Omg the bartender groped me in the bathroom and the drag queen laughed when I came out screaming, girls run!!!! I never thought race would make be scared in nyc!!! Go on your own risk!!!! Girls should bring a guy friend, be careful!!! Please girls protect each other!!!!!
This is the place to go to for a great night of dancing and sensory overload! Do yourself a favor and get a ticket. 3 floors of pure chaotic curious fun! You will not be disappointed and will find yourself going back again and again!
I literally came here alone because I was visiting from Chicago and heard about this place through TikTok. I had an absolute blast, made friends and let loose! The entertainment was amazing and I had so much fun. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to have a good night out in the city!
Not worth the entrance fee. Chaotic wannabe the box
Great club similar to the house of yes. With definitely go again. Parking is to be desired you have to look around.
Absolutely worth the cover. You can easily spend all night here and I’ve never been to another club like it.
Major disappointment. Beautiful setting crowded with backwards-baseball-cap-wearing bros in sneakers. Kills the vibe entirely. Bring back the velvet ropes please.
Absolute killer of a club, definitely go at least once! Its worth it for sure
Everything was pretty good till the coatcheck… still a good experience would probably go again in the summer to avoid coatcheck
Will randomly cancel your tickets the night before the event you bought them too. Don’t go here, can’t trust them.
Amazing new space. One of a kind. And the staff is nice and not pretentious like most Manhattan clubs
One of the only US clubs that compares to clubs in Europe. Incredible experience. Come prepared to spend a pretty penny on drinks.
Wonderful, weird night. Lots of rooms and hidden corners to explore. Performances and interactive installations throughout the night. A unique night club adventure.
ITS SO PRETTY!!! I had a great time working a private event here so Im hype to adventure more now that its open! Im obsessed with the design of the space!
Massive space with massive energy to match. The theatrics of the Box but in a bigger scale and so many wild surprises everywhere u look… nyc nightlife needed this badly!!
I love this place and Hodo Alien solo performance was an outside of this world energy… I would love to see Hodo👽 again… 🙏🏻 @hodoalien
Amazing club! Great music and dancing, thrilling performances, never a dull moment!
I can’t say much but this place has everything and anything going on it’s so out of place But so right I had fun
My favorite club in NYC by a landslide
Awesome club. Kinky, edgy, great service. Fun music. 3 stages
Big fun house nightclub with festive and circus like atmosphere.
Not any complimentary psychicsRude - just about rats and not future
Best night of my life. An incredible new addition to the Manhattan nightlife.
This is, without a doubt, the best club in New York City.
Worst place ever !
One of the best clubs in nyc
Funky and weird, loved it
Did not have fun.
So much fun!
Eeehhhh it’s okay
Dope!
A future legend in the making
Fun & funky
Stimulated
Its a psychedelic nightclub, I like the shows and they are always different. However, when it is later, I feel that the atmosphere is a bit heavy and the people are already too crazy. However, it is a good environment to go with a group of friends.
