This place reminds me of the dives I used to hangout in when I was in art school in Baltimore. Loved the old school vibe, dour bar tender and vintage look of the place. I’ve been to pubs in Edinburgh like this... Ahhh to be young again and seated in a nook having deep conversations surrounded by age old furniture and hip kids. I hear that they have a dance floor downstairs w dope music but we had to leave for our next appointment. I can imagine this place being lit at night.
Rented out the basement for my bachelorette this weekend and it was the best decision Ive made!!! Kaarin and the entire staff were INCREDIBLE from the moment I booked. She was responsive, accommodating, and kind throughout the planning process. On the day-of, the staff (door staff, bartenders, DJ etc.) were so kind and helpful and went above and beyond to be sure my friends were happy. The DJ Addy even came over to check in on me several times throughout the night. Incredible experience and I will be telling all of my friends to book here. Cannot recommend Von enough for your next event!
Shhhhh! Don’t tell anyone how great this place is. Just come in in, relax by candlelight, listen to the good tunes, appreciate the lack of pretension and keep the secret. Don’t tell your friends. And don’t post a five star review like I’m doing now.Random detail as post-script: When I was last there (Jan 2023), the bartender was playing very cool Belgian music and other tunes in French. Tres chic. But still sans attitude, which was great.
Shhh, dont tell anyone about this place because its fantastic!!! Happy Hour Frozen Drinks is what brought me inside. They also have a huge outdoor set up on a Bleeker Street closed to traffic. When you go inside the bar is right there with some of the coolest bartenders around. Go downstairs and there is a second bar and a dance floor, which kinda looks like a fighting ring but whatever. And if youre hungry they have snacks! Delicious pizza, I got with prosciutto and greens, fresh from the brick oven on a wooden palette and into my belly. Oh, and did I mention that they are dog friendly! Sh, dont tell anybody and lets keep this place our secret ;)
I was here for the Listen Bar pop up event. Von seemed cool enough of a place to grab a drink but there were no signs or help directing people to the Listen Bar event. Many of looking like lost lambs but eventually ventured further back and found a second room with the entrance to the basement. Cool that Von hosted the Listen Bar event as nonalcoholic bars try to find a footing. The Listen Bar event started late. I ended up getting stuck in a corner by the bar because the event was so well attended. It was packed! The downstairs bar was a nice space, even if I only got to experience one corner of it. The NA Actual Sunshine cocktail and the Pilot Kombucha was tasty. Will attend future Listen Bar events if they do more pop ups or get a permanent space.
A solid - Almost Berlin style - watering hole with pretty average prices and selection, with a consistently nice crowd (when not filled to the brink) and incredibly nice staff. Masked as a no frills wine bar this places got a secret though.. Nope! Not the $5 and up drafts. Not the sparse seating arrangements.... Yup! stuffs going on downstairs I tell ya. Bring ya dancing vibes and find out for yourself ;)
A place with a good atmosphere and delicious wine. Its nice that there are outdoor seats.
Cool bar, nice bar tenders. Felt relaxed and unpretentious.
Great dj downstairs and my one cocktail was good lol I was too cheap to keep buying but 10/10 want to repeat the experience
Every other Thursday, the basement hosts experimental and fresh music like no other spot in Manhattancheck out @under_bleecker_street
The place is nice. It has areas where the music is dominant and others where its not. Theres also a dance floor on a lower level. Its a very enjoyable place to spend time. There are many options. The prices are relatively reasonable. I recommend it.
Never tried their food but the cocktails are well-prepared, very tasty! The prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is good.
Love the atmosphere! Super spacious inside and has even more in their basement, which has a bar and dancing! Drinks and bartenders were awesome too. A good vibe to meet someone for a drink or take yourself out for one solo.
Staff is great - made my birthday very enjoyable
Hadnt been to Von in quite a while, and Im glad to say it remains a comfortable low-key hang with a terrific variety of wines - other beverages, too. Miss the bartenders I used to see, but I got over it. Not too horribly packed on a Friday evening, at least when we were there, and Im sure well return.
Nice spot. First bar after arriving NYC. Good beers, lovely atmosphere. HaPpYhApPy
Came here on a rainy afternoon during Happy Hour and the vibes were so chill. The bartender was also really nice, I asked for a frozen margarita since it was discounted for Happy Hour but the machine was not working so they gave me a regular margarita and honored the Happy Hour price. So kind of them! But honestly, I wound up liking the mule a lot more 😅 menu is short and sweet and prices are standard for NYC
Came here for a friends birthday celebration and had a really, really great time! The downstairs area was my favorite. The ceiling is made of wine corks and the walls are stone/ brick and gave off a wine cellar vibe that I fell in love with. The DJ came around 10pm so we ended up dancing the night away which was so fun! I also had some of their brick oven pizza which was DELICIOUS! Definitely go here for a good time!
Horrible service from the bartenders. On a slow Wed night night we waited standing at the bar to get their attention for 10 minutes or more. Neither of them made even eye contact with us, let alone tell us it will take a minute. God damn, acknowledge our presence at least. I understand its a dive bar but this one was bad. Zero star. Ill stick to Wilfie and Nells.Edit: Thank you, owner, for the reply. That helps a little. We were there Wed Mar 8th 8:04-8:18pm according to my Timeline.
Had a great night here for dancing at the lower level, on a Saturday night. DJ had a nice mix of hip hop, new and some oldies. Bar staff, security, and coat check were all good! Dance floor was packed tight, but still enough space to get the groove.
Von is a great neighborhood spot. Throw backs to classic bleeker/Bowery vibes. Friendly staff and patrons. Great drinks. Best happy hour in the hood. Get either chill drinks upstairs or brace yourself for the great dancing downstairs. Downstairs is very crowded, college age. But always fun. Go here on the weekend if the line is too long for Ghost Donkey.
Pros:- small and cozy spot- easy to find seats before 9 on a Friday night- bartenders are friendly- bouncer is nice- music is early 2000s feel good songsCocktails and other drinks are between $13-$15.They also have mocktails.
We really enjoyed Vonn, a very nice stop following a tour in Little Italy, Soho, and Chinatown in the very cold weather recently. A great spot to enjoy delicious hot toddies, interaction with very pleasant staff, and a cool vibe! A good place!
One of the great hidden gems of the East Village. Wonderful bartenders who make artistic tasty cocktails. A rare ambience that is soothing and sophisticated. A fine quiet place to take a date. Nice hip dance space downstairs with good music. A little something for everyone. My favorite bar.
I went here for my birthday last night - the goal was to dance to good music and have good times. The DJ kinda ruined the evening, he refused to play any songs our party requested and the music taste was just off. If you’re looking to go out somewhere, I’m not sure if I’d recommend Von after last night.
Visited here for one of their monthly stand-up shows and was not disappointed. About six young comics performed and they were all consistently good. A singer performed an short acoustic set afterwards and everyone stayed around to watch her, she was that good. This was a great way to spend a Sunday.
Went to Von after dinner since I was curious about this rustic yet refined NoHo wine bar. Although the bar offers a laid-back experience with hardwood floors, exposed brick, weathered wood bar, and golden glow of candlelight, I found it to be stuffy and boring. Not to mention the almost non existent service! We walked in around 10pm had one glass of wine after wait for the bartender to finish his never ending conversation with what seemed to be his friend. I was let down since it is a very cute place but its NYC and nobody has time for bad serviceAlso, it is small with not that much seating. Giving 2 stars for the cute ambiance!
Von’s been my favorite bar for a while. Great cocktails and beer list up top, and is usually quiet enough that you can be heard. Downstairs dance floor is usually tame but is great for big parties.
The space is cool (large enough due to two rooms on the street level and a dancing space in the basement, w/ several functioning bathrooms), the music was fine and the rowdy was eclectic. The only downside was the bartenders. Unresponsive, not engaging and the hesitation in making cocktails that werent on their list.
This little corner of Manhattan has a nice selection of wines, beers, and signature cocktails. This place has a cozy setting and a perfect casual place to grab drinks after work.
Great small bar always hopping. Can find a nice spot in second part of bar in back to sit at with friend or date. Bartenders and staff are friendly. Fun place to meet for a drink or two and then head downtown somewhere else or just meet for a drink. Located next to a lot of other bars and restaurants. Easy to get to from subway. A lot of a younger NYU and slightly older crowd.
Came here last Saturday night. The downstairs DJ played mostly rap, some R&B. He did a lot of old school tracks lol. There was surprisingly enough room on the dance floor to breathe and we wound up staying till 3 am so It was fun but the ambiance, at least downstairs is nothing special.
Nice hangout spot with a lot of space. Check out the basement for de dance. Good selection of hip hop. Wouldn’t call it a wine bar so I think that’s a bad descriptor. Definitely relaxed and not a bad place to chill.
Biden bar/dance hall underground.Vibe is nice but it’s too small for large parties.Approximately 50 ppl is the maximum.Drinks are ok but staff are nice.
I simply love this place! Cesar, Ryan, Venny, Marina, Max, and Matt are some the best mixologists in the city. I always have a great time at the bar!
This is the best bar in new york. great service, drinks, music, decor and vibe. the owners are super cool and totally involved in the management of the space. the staff is friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. theres a wide range of choices to drink, pretty much whatever your heart desires and your wallet can endure. but prices are totally reasonable. whether its the DJ or the bartenders choice, theres always good music pumping. this is my go to spot for both intimate gatherings and blow out parties. theres a cool cavernous space downstairs that can be reserved. Von is classy, but not too precious and the bathrooms are not horrifying. conveniently located, Von is the spot to hang out, whether youre a local or a visitor. i highly recommend!!!
Great bar and really nice servers. I even forgot my wallet there and they helped me get it back so quickly! I work in SoHo, so Im sure Ill be back for many more happy hours.
I love that this place exists. Cozy, great cocktail menu (negroni love) and well-picked wines. The bartenders are super friendly. Thank you for making such an awesome space!
Great spot. Good atmosphere. Downstairs can be fun. Dont expect a wide selection of beer. Usually lighter stuff on tap--Stella Artois, Bitburger, Brooklyn Lager, that kind of thing. Fine for summer. But you can expect nice signature cocktails, good wine, and good service.
Aside from 91 bucks for 6 shots of tequila (casamigos) its a good place. The dj downstairs was dope. Great music all night.
Great for Sunday happy hour
Vibe is really chill, music is (almost) always good, and their cocktails will have you in the best mood. Im going down 1 star, only because half of the times Ive been here on usually a Saturday night, the AC either isnt non existent. Its the only negative thing I can say, you cant come here without coming out drenched in your own and others (ew) sweat.
Monday and Tuesday nights are truly wonderful at this bar. Walk in from Bleecker Street (@Bowery) and you are immersed in a realm of eclectic music (courtesy of Caitlin, who also minds the bar). It’s never crazy busy on these nights, so I usually pick up a sandwich at nearby Bite (at Lafayette) and cozy up with a draft to enjoy the tunes, which might include Glen Campbell, Nick Cave, or Shirley Bassey. Von is NYC at its best.
Looks like a small quaint bar from the outside, but go inside and find yourself in a basement bar with a dance floor. This is a weekday spot if you dont like over crowding, because on weekends it can get overbearing with the masses. Great drinks and nice friendly staff. Great place to hang out, just be wearing of how big the crowds get.
Love the decor and the dim lighting but I walked in and the woman bartender was having a conversation with someone on the opposite side of the bar. I waited for quite some time. Then, more people came in and she served them first than us. What a dissapointment. Walked out right after.
Just off the avenue this place manages to not be aggressively packed during happy hour. A G&T is 10$ but they dont really have a well. So thats a 10$ cocktail with actual good gin. Dark funky atmosphere, good looking people, and they sell kettle chips for a dollar
Celebrated my birthday here and had a really good time. DJ Add-a-lesson had the dance floor rocking all night long. The bar prices were a lil steep but expected. But for the life of me why dont they carry Ciroc or any other vodka except Titos? And why cant I buy a bottle or get bottle service?
Von really is like two bars in one. On the top floor, you have a very relaxed bar scene where you can chat it up with folks without having to yell over one another. Downstairs is a different scene. The DJs downstairs are aiming to get the party started, primarily with a mixture of throwback and current hip hop & R&B. Its just a fun place to be.
I always enjoy my time at Von. The bouncers are fun and upbeat so the night always starts off well. The downstairs area is one of the cooler basements Ive been in. The drinks are reasonably priced and strong.
My husband and I came into the city to celebrate Valentine’s Day. We planned to begin the evening at Vonbar for open mic night. Unfortunately the Gravy Train event coordinator never showed up. Comedians were waiting to perform and audience members were waiting to be entertained. How extremely disappointing and unprofessional. The bartender said she would text the person to find out where he was. This was to no avail. What a shame!!!
Seemed like a decent place when I went but it was way overfilled. I could barely move around and the basement was like a sweat lodge. Drink prices arent terrible and the bartenders were ok but overall I wasnt that impressed. Lots of pushy people without manners as well.
I enjoyed my nights here chatting with my amazing robotics friends here: the future CTO of Apple and the best Ping-Pong player+most beautiful robotics women scientists in the NYC. (XD
What a strange place. I wont be coming back.So we were told we had to order food & couldnt just have an after dinner drink (fine, I understand this is now a NY law - I didnt realize it when we first walked in since I no longer live in NY, the manager had to explain it to me, & did he - in quite a condescending tone). That aside, to air on the side of fairness: its not factored into my rating...We ordered 3 drinks (2 spicy margaritas & a glass of wine), the Sophia pizza & guacamole & the bill came out to ~$65. The guacamole was 1 tablespoon - literally, 1 tablespoon - placed in a small mason jar to appear larger. It was served with chips - that tasted stale - & a small mason jar equivalent of pico de gallo. The pico had a nice kick & was tasty, in all fairness. The guac & stale chips - even though it was only $5, were a total waste of time. The Sophia pizza, to our surprise, was lovely - served with arugula on top & drizzled with a bit of balsamic glaze (not made fresh - I think he mentioned its sourced from a Brooklyn restaurant - but passable). Is it worth $15? Nope. Also, they had no plates. Zero plates to eat on. If you have to serve food with drinks, I feel like investing in some cutlery & plates (even disposable) is necessary. We used a lot of napkins - which just seemed silly. And to conclude, the service leaves much to be desired. I really really feel for small businesses, its a tough time, & Im game to support how/when I can. But Id check some of the arrogance & assumption, & replace it with a bit more kindness & open mindedness.
Great place to meet people every night of the week. Drinks are strong and worth the price. Love the music and dancing.Bring a few friends and meet some new ones.If you love having a good time.......check out VONS!
Ambiance is very good. Bartender was polite enough. Except for the air conditioning which I felt was on and off the day I went, i felt this place is really worth it. Will definitely go back.
Security guards are physical, rude, and threatening. One of them pushed my boyfriend down onto the ground (that was covered in glass) for being in his way. It was his birthday, and he was minding his business, dancing with his friends. Alberto (if he gave us his real name) pushed him onto the floor and further threateningly advanced him for absolutely no reason. The dance floor was very crowded and some nudging is expected, but not this kind of violent behavior. He has been celebrating his birthday there for 3 consecutive years, and always has 30+ people. NEVER AGAIN will we step foot into this place.
Great fun. Have planned to go there for some time and glad we finally made it. Wonderful neighborhood vibe. Great cocktails 🍸.
Usually come here on the weekends for the drinks and a place to dance. The DJ is always crushing the music. Its usually hip hop. Love this place! #dancefloor #nocover
My favorite is upstairs. Any day of the week. Bar staff is great. Drinks are reasonably priced. The music playlist is always on point!!!
Nice bar, goo drinks, friendly bartenders and great atmosphere. A bit dark for my taste, but Darkness in bars are common I guess, They also have a nice semi separated back room area
Bar is on the small side. Not something i would spend my whole night at, but was perfect for stopping in for a drink or two which we did. The bartender working was super pleasant
I came here after a birthday dinner with my sister. Very nice venue with a dance floor downstairs. I had a whiskey neat. I like the wall hangings.
Cozy bar with decent folks. Cocktails were good, bartender friendly, and generally clean. It is just a good bar, not anything themed or trendy. Go for a drink.
The wine was bad and the beer selection was so bad I got wine. DJ was not great, wouldnt take song requests and didnt feel the vibe of the crowd. Only played what he liked. Not a fan
Good beer selection and wine selection. The downstairs room looks awesome. Just wish there were a way to get in on Friday and Saturday nights when trying to meet friends late.
The drinks are good but the service is lackadaisical at best. Maybe hire a second bartender?
Good mix of upstairs bar and downstairs dancefloor. The downstairs space can feel crowded when more people are there, but thats to bei expected.
Magic spot... downstairs lounge and dance floor
Loud, dark, unfriendly. The Bullit Bourbon I ordered was def not Bullit & my friend said the same thing about his Jack Daniels. Very shady biz.
Solid drinks. The “cocktails on tap” were “fine,” but cocktails made by bartender way better
This has been my spot for years. Very friendly crowd. Downstairs dance floor is great and always fun.
Drinks are bad. Bourbon drink was watered down and wine was sour (probably opened for days) pathetic.
Favorite bar in Manhattan.Prior to covid always busy. Upscale without pretentiousness. Great owner and staff
Apart from the one time i stumbled upon a subterranean hip hop dance party on some random weeknight (uhm why doesnt that happen more often?), this place has always been packed...and yet somehow, pretty much always worth the visit.
Decent sized spot. Bigger than it looks. Good staff. Drinks are a little pricey but they play good music
Was nice music, but I waited so long my drinks at the bar :(
Great spot. Only issue was the back to back Heart then Don Henley on a Saturday night. There is retro and then there is just bad.
Von is one of my favourite places in NYC. I love the fact that you can have a conversation upstairs, with more mellow music and seating, then go downstairs and dance.
I went here for an event for a non-profit organization. It was held in the basement level. The bar is seemingly made up of mostly wood and its gorgeous.
I like how dark it is... But naturally it gets rowdy on the weekends. Great place for a loner drink or for a date you deem worthy.
Went on a Saturday night and the music was great, we danced all night. Great vibes and good drinks.
Good event space downstairs, very nice ambiance!
Been going for years & will continue to do so. Fantastic bartenders and staff. Bring a baby. Youll get free drinks.
Great bar in the Bowery neighborhood. Dancing in second bar in the basement and a chiller atmosphere and main bar on the main floor.
Good vibe for walking in and grabbing a drink after dinner plans without a reservation.
Friendly bartenders, low key atmosphere and very dog friendly. Stay upstairs for a casual drink or go downstairs to dance.
Love this place. Our go to place for good hip hop and a chill dance floor with good drinks.
Amazing old school bar. Dancing downstairs and great drinks.
Dog lovers 🐶 Good beer on tap. Nice Happy Hour. Not loud and obnoxious.
Small and cute. You can even order in food. No pretzels or bar snacks but delicious cava!
Nice vibes, more spacious than it looks in photos.
Love this low key spot. Gets pretty crowded at times but the bartenders are great and so is the people watching.
Good place to just sit at the bar, dance or even have a private party.
Everything was chill, as far as I could tell.
Mixed experiences of an amazing time with fun dancing in the basement to times where it was way too crowded and way too small a bar in the basement
Great first date spot! Super chill vibes with great drinks.
Fun bar. Go to the basement dance floor for the real fun. It is kind of tucked away though so you need to look for the steps down.
Really nice crowd, always great drinks with friends here always 👍👍👍
Best bar in NY. Come here every time I visit.
Fun place to dance with after a drink.
Great place. We were downstairs for a party and it was really cool.
Fun spot with different areas to suite what youre looking for, from a regular bar, lounging area, or dance floor
Upscale bar and lounge w live music the owner is very down to earth great crowd
Solid no-frills bar upstairs with dj and dancing below.
Great bar, awesome staff. Highly highly recommend
Nice staff/owner/bartenders!Really funny comedy show on Sundays at 7!
Great drinks and hip hop dancing in the basement
Drinks are terrible. We tried several and all were inedible; far too sweet and loaded with sour mix.
Dimly lit, not too crowded, decent beer selection and plenty of seating.
Great bar. Great staff. Great place to meet friends for a drink.
Love love love Vinny. Definitely stop by and let him make you a drink.
Chill wine bar with cool decor. Downstairs is a good function room.
Good atmosphere that could accommodate couples to 6 at a time comfortably.
Usually good music downstairs will get you in the dancing mood.
Good music but definitely gets crowded downstairs.
Dark and romantic, but also a great place to meet with friends after work and on weekends.
Its a nice chill spot. Could get a little crowded but good chill music.
Dont know about the food, but across the board Service, Atmosphere and value was cool.
Low-key under the radar spot for drinks. A bit more expensive than it needs to be, even considering the neighborhood.
Great bar. Fun vibe and good staff.
Good cheap cocktails with outdoor seating during Covid-19.
A characterful old school wine bar. Theres a cool downstairs area too.
Love this funky place. Awesome basement club.
Classic hip-hop DJ downstairs after 10pm on the busy nights.
Great drinks and friendly staff.
Great vipe cool spot for after hours
Cool place...once a week guess bartenders for a charitable cause
I asked for a gin and tonic got gin and seltzer. Went back to ask for more tonic and got more seltzer
Went for the Moscow Mules at Happy Hour! They are delicious!
Boring scene upstairs, smells like pee downstairs. Bar tender was rude.
Casual little beer and cocktail bar with a decent dance scene in the basement
I loved this place hours and hours of fun and good music!
Nice environment friendly staff great drinks
Cozy space with friendly staff. Nice for a getting together with friends.
Fantastic, fun wine bar with a downstairs lounge
Great events downstairs on Tuesdays. Cocktails are da bomb
Fun spot, strong drinks & great service!
Nice ambiance. Quaint, relaxing, good music, nice location.
Great bar to hang out, nice service!
Sat night packed with people. The music was great.
Literally iconic i love this place 💜
Cozy little bar, but the downstairs is where the party is at... usually
The worst service I have seen for any bar downtown
Vonnie the definition of Happy hour. NYs finest
Love the basement at Von. Great winter bar
Nice place to meet people and drink good wine and beer.

The Break Fresh crew throws the best parties there.
Great service, attentive staff, fine food ...
Ambiente. Cozy. Not too loud.
Good beer, dancing floor downstairs.
Great happy hour and frozen mosco mule!
Local crowd, good wine selection.
Cool spot. Great for birthday vibes.
Chill and dance floor gets lit after 12am
Ratchet music and a fun place to dance. Go to the basement.
Very crowded. Downstairs is cool.
Nice spot
Just an amazing experience ✨️
Great wine bar!
No words, just thank you. Always will be in my heart.
