If youre a member of the LGBTQIA+ (or an ally) community, you should check out the Apothecary 39 located at the 39th Street District (aka the strip). Its pretty chill in there and has a hipster/lounge atmosphere. It also has a patio and the bar is NON-SMOKING but you can smoke on the patio. It does close earlier than the other bars of the strip.First impression:This place is old. No really, Ive been told the building is more than 100 years old and was part of the original Route 66 mother road. It has a lot of history and if you talk to the older local crowd, they will have plenty of entertaining stories. Its nearby various LGBTQIA+ clubs, restaurants, and a hotel. You can park in one spot and then do a bar crawl throughout the night. However, you should start your night here.Menu:I drink Miller Lite and when I want a shot I go for Jameson (its an Irish thing). However, there is a special menu of cocktails you can order from. Keep in mind sometimes the liquor they use may be out of stock. This can apply to items off the special menu as well.Atmosphere:There are plenty of places to sit at the bar or throughout the establishment. Dont expect anything exciting playing on the TVs and the music in the bar is picked by the bartender thats working that night. There is a pool table, but its not a professional version. The bathrooms are NOT updated and are what you would expect from a typical bar. Cleanliness would be compared to the other bars in the area.Customer Service:For the most part, the staff is friendly. Youll get service with a smile and they will do their best to get your drink order to you. Keep in mind they deal with a lot of intoxicated people and so if youre a little too much, youre likely to be told to calm down. At peak times, you will wait in line but the cocktail will be worth it.Price:Its a little steep but is similar to the bars within the 39th Street district. You can find drinks cheaper elsewhere, but youll need to go somewhere else in the city. You are paying for the location, the community, and the convenience of being near other locations.Overall:I like this place. I go there often. I feel comfortable and I have always had good service. Its quieter than the other bars. So if you want to have a conversation with someone, you can. The bartenders will get to know you if you frequent the place and if you have a regular order, theyll remember it. You should definitely stop by and stay a while.
Ive been here a number of times. Its just a nice place to grab a drink and hang out. The bartender is great, the ambience is nice, they play late 90s/early 00s music 99% of the time, and they have great drink prices. Its a 100% accepting a chill crowd. Non-smoking inside, but they have an outdoor space for smoking/vaping.
I really enjoy AP39! Its the only smoke free bar on 39th street and has a great atmosphere. The bartenders are professional, and no drink is off limits or too complicated. It attracts a friendly crowd and hosts a great Bingo night, and often has fundraisers for charities. Its always a good time!
Wife & I came here on a Thursday for Happy Hour. SMOKE FREE, gotta love that! 1 pool table, great cocktails & outdoor patio. Very nice place & friendly bartender. Good Happy Hour prices as well.
Surprisingly cozy for a bar, nice local cocktails and a great place to chill with your libation when the crowd calms down. Overall a great start and end of a weekend local bar crawl.
Its a pretty classy space and the bartenders do know how to make a great drink. These guys know their stuff and wont look at you like youre from another planet if you ask for something obscure. On the minus side its a bit too subdued for my tastes. It also has a slight hipster vibe that can come off a bit pretentious. This is the kind of place that will appeal to some and scare away others.
I LOVED this place when I first viseted not long ago. The cocktails are professionally, nay, artistically crafted and the atmosphere is as classy as it gets wile still being fun.
I loved this place! The bartender and I talked for hours and he was so attentive and personable. The atmosphere was so cool, and I love the architecture of the building. I will be back!
A wonderful place in the middle of the gayborhood. Chris the bartender was nice and had some good recommendations. Nice crowd. Try the fruit loops martini - it was fantastic.
Artisanal cocktails, furniture you wish you had, and a non smoking atmosphere (smokers go to the patio its lovely youll be fine Im one to) also the only place in the gay district to get a mojito or bring a conservative mother without scaring her
One of my favs. Wish there was a drink menu but its aight. I love love love the cozy atmosphere
