I would first like to say the meat pie was delicious. The lady was nice and service was ok. This is a mom and pop shop not a fine dining experience so its expected but still very warm. I came because I really wanted some good oxtails and wanted to support black owned business. I would just say no to the oxtail unless you like the more bbq style oxtail. I personally came for a spicy more traditional oxtail and this was sweet bbq oxtails in my opinion! I seen there were other options that I seen other people order so maybe I just got the wrong item. Overall I rate this 2.5 just because I spent over $50 on food I just did not enjoy.

So to be real, this was my first time trying Jamaican food. I’ve been living in the neighborhood for about nine months now, and I decided to make an Uber eats order and take a nice walk up to the Building to pick up my food. $51 got me 6 smothered oxtails with Rice and Beans, Vegetables and 3 fried plantains. I also got a Jamaican Beef Patty and a side order of about 10 Sweet Fried Plantains. Overall the service was ok. The young gentleman who greeted me wasn’t the happiest, but hey everyone has their good and bad days, and who am I to judge? I feel like the oxtails should have came with a few more oxtails for the $37 price. Quality/taste of food wasn’t bad. It came out the kitchen hot. I would like to go back and try something like their Jerk Chicken. I would have given 5 stars but this is my first time trying any of these foods. I do know this place has a ton of good reviews so that says something about the place.

It was okay, I got their Jerk Chicken sandwich. My bread was stale hard to bite through and some pieces of meat were inedible. Flavor was there other than that. The service was friendly! If they did a full piece of meat vs. chopped up, it wouldve been better (just my opinion) & of course fresher bread.

The vibe of this place was so nostalgic. It reminds me of the Jamaican food places on the east coast. I knew the food was gonna be good as soon as I walked in and saw how simple the place was and how bad the service was.The service was typical of Jamaican food places; lowkey rude and uninterested. The food tastes pretty good. I got the jerk chicken platter and the beef patty. The chicken was moist and well-seasoned. The jerk sauce was decent. The beef patty could be better, the beef was good but the pastry was soggy around the edges. I thought I spilled water on it but no. Idk what happened, maybe just a bad patty. What I have a problem with was that I paid $20 for a jerk chicken platter (2 pieces) and only got 2 pieces of jerk chicken. Like... can I get some rice? Can I get some veg? $20 for 2 pieces of jerk chicken??? Why call it a platter if its just chicken? Also, I paid $6 for that doughy, soggy beef patty. Dont piss me off.

To be fair I went there today (Saturday 6th) & there was an outside party to celebrate Jamaican Independence so the back up foe food was out the door--literally!I saw ONE lady Taking inside orders, doing to go orders, and serving seated customers eating inside! It was crazee and wait both 2 order and get food was long.In instances like this we all just need to smile and be patient.I ordered easy-peasy: 2 patties and a Modelo (they were OUT of Red Stripe!🥸) & went outside to enjoy the Reggae music. Then came back and ordered to go and got another beverage, went outside and waited.Broought mine home: Food was hot, tasty & enough maybe for 3 days!

Listen. If I could eat here everyday I would. I do once a week. The vibe feels alot like an east coast restaurant- Philly. The food is authentic and so good- the peas and rice are refreshing! Sometimes when I eat them I feel like Im drinking water. The beef patties are spicy and flakey - so good. The plates are priced well - you get ALOT of food.

I experienced an awful customer service with this restaurant today. I came this morning with my daughter to the Yaad Style Jamaican which I have enjoyed for years. The parking space was full of trash. Upon entering the restaurant, the server stood and stared at us with no greetings. When asked if the restaurant was open, the gentleman stood quiet. He didnt come to our table to take our order and asked us to come instead to the counter to grab a menu and order. Waited for 40mns with no water served, no attention and had to leave.

Jerk chicken was delicious and moist, with a perfect little char on the outside… the sides were perfectly cooked and tasted nice and fresh. I haven’t cleaned a plate this fast in a while. Met the new owners, very nice people. They just got their liquor license, so there was no official drink menu yet… but they did have a tropical rum punch mixed up that was really really refreshing and dangerously easy to drink. I got to try a little bit of the oxtail too and it was delicious as well. Definitely coming back soon.

It doesnt get more authentic than this place. The rice and beans to start off with hits perfect hence my 5 star. The jerk chicken is to die for. Cooked perfectly with a light crisp skin and taste that goes all the way to the bone. Cook to order so be patient because the wait is worth it. I prefer to dine in to get it fresh and the vibe is cool. Have yet to go to the karaoke, but will soon. My 1st go to for that real authentic Jamaican food.

I had the jerk chicken dinner platter. It’s one of those dinner dishes that you eat and you sit down and immediately have the -itis. The food‘s so good you wanna pass out right after work because you’re so stuffed. The chicken is moist, spicy, and smoky. The jerk sauce when added to the chicken and also drizzled over the red beans and rice was a good finishing touch. The mixed veggies added a nice crunch to the meal followed by the plantains which added sweetness completing the meal. Oh no I give this a 5/5 stars and 10 out of 10 would recommend.

Ah Yaad Style. I keep coming back because of the friendly people and the delicious food. I see a lot of complaints about parking... there’s a public parking lot 30 steps away to the north. There’s a sign that says Liquor Store Parking, but that lot is for the general public FYI. If you’ve ever been to a Jamaican establishment, you know that there will likely be a wait time so come prepared to do that. Their jerk chicken is a favorite of mine - don’t think it’s as spicy as it can get but it has enough kick to it. Their dinner servings are generous with rice&peas, macaroni pie, plantain and veggies served with the entree. The food hits the spot every time I want a taste of home.

Yaad Style Jamaican Cuisine offers many forms of Jamaican jerk chicken, but one of their best is in a sandwich. It is also offered as a wrap, but the hoagie roll is the perfect foundation because it is light, fluffy, and soaks up the jerk sauce. It packs quite a punch and is served on the side for you to carefully calibrate the spiciness of the finely chopped chicken, but use it well because it enhances everything with a slightly smoky depth. Order a side of festival, a sweet hushpuppy-like fried bread, and dip it in the sauce, too. Ordering is particularly easy because the restaurant website uses Menufy, which allows you to order and pay online. So if you’re looking for an easy meal and a different kind of spicy chicken, venture out to Yaad Style and enjoy the jerk chicken sandwich.

FOOD: It was amazing. To begin, I visited Jamaica in 2022, and I know I flew out of there 10lbs heavier because my seat was tighter on that return flight home, lol!! So, in search of that experience once again landed me at Yaad. My food came out, and I proceeded to take my first bite of jerk chicken with beans and rice...and all I can say is that it did not disappoint. It made me smile, and i said, Oh yea, this is it right here. They nailed it!!SERVICE: From the folks at checkout registers, cab drivers, baggage claim attendants, hotel employees, restaurant workers and all of the above.......it felt like everyone I met on my trip to Jamaica deserved $100 tips/ donations. When I walked in Yaad, the young brother failed to provide any hospitality towards me. He was flat the entire time. This was my first time in there, I was undecided and had many questions... Each inquiry was met with a short reply, and I felt like I needed to hurry up with my order. I still gave a $5 tip. As I waited on my order, an older (and perhaps) regular customer gets a projected welcome, may I take your order? which was a noticeable shift from how I was greeted. Was I discriminated against? Dont know, but its how I felt in that experience.ATMOSPHERE: Very cozy and comfortable. Floors, scents, tables..... everything looked presentable and welcoming. Parking is a little better than terrible. I was blocked in by other customers as their parking appeared to be more like an ally onside the building.I will revisit Yaad again.

Two customers later as my order is being bagged... they asked for rice and peas, lady at register asks the cook and comes back and says 5 min. Irritated, but I said cool can I switch, she said no, you can pay for a side or come back another time because I already made your plate.Got home to eat and my Jerk chicken and it was char-burned and the meat was dry! Have to say I didnt actually get a chance to eat here, but Im leaving a low rating because of my experience. I love Caribbean food, its probably my favorite kind of cuisine. So I was very excited to try this place, as I travel a lot and its been a minute since Ive had some good Jamaican food. I ordered a lot of stuff, over $70 worth, curry goat, patties, and more. It was Saturday and I drove about 45 min to go pick up the food. I go inside to pick it up, theres a small handful of people inside eating. The guy behind the counter tells me, yeah I cancelled your order and refunded the charge. I was like what? Why? You couldnt have called me so I didnt have to drive all this way? Then he very rudely says, Youve been refunded sir, were too busy to take any more orders! I didnt argue or say much after that I just left. It just seems pretty unprofessional, I was so hungry that night! And I understand being busy, I would have gladly waited longer or tried to compromise with the kitchen to change my order, but I didnt deserve to be treated like that. Im not a disrespectful customer and Im not a Karen. That guy was totally nasty to me for no reason, and I wasted a lot of time driving all the way out there. So I guess if you eat here call first to make sure they have time for you and make sure the staff is in a good mood. For sure it was a very unpleasant experience.

Popped in early on a Wed for dinner, so place was kinda quiet. Jamaican vibe with reggae on the speakers. First think you notice is the great aroma of stewing chow. Modest place. Friendly staff. Menu says veggie rice, mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes are also options with a meal, but they didnt have these available; just rice and beans and white rice. Meals came with steamed veggies (which were great and a lot better than youd think being called steamed veggies) and plantains. We sampled the oxtails which was delicious! Well try them again when its a little warmer. All in all our experience was good.

Drove down from Seattle for the weekend and decided to go back here since it was delicious when I was here a year ago. Very disappointed took 25 minutes to receive my to go order. When I walked in the tables were dirty with trash and all the staff was in the back talking. I ordered a jerk chicken lunch, curry chicken lunch with a side of plantain and Mac & Cheese. First off the online menu says $4.00 for the sides they charged me $6.00. The plantain order had 9 thin pieces of plantain. The jerk chicken lunch had a small piece of chicken looked more the size of a duck thigh. There was no real heat on the chicken, I didnt even break a sweat. The chicken curry didnt look appetizing at all. I will definitely be bringing my business some where else. I know good island food my family is from St. Thomas so I have knowledge of the food.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Funny story, I called the restaurant to find out if the chef was Jamaican, when it was confirmed that a Jamaican was in the kitchen we knew the food was going to be good. What we didnt know was how good the food would be. We ordered the curry goat with rice and peas and fried plantains. We must have checked the food delivery app 100 times anticipating its arrival. WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!!!!!!1. Rice and Peas was fresh and vibrant in color. You could taste the coconut milk, scallions, thyme and pimento, all seasonings in every fork full. Reminded us if our aunty or uncles cooking in the country back home.2. The goat was tender and seasoned to the bone, you hear me!!! SEASONED TO THE BONE!!!!!!!3. Plantains are always a hit or miss but not the ones Yaad Style makes. They were not soaked in oil and they were cooked perfectly!!4. The fruit punch drink is to die for. It was homemade so you know it was good. We wished we ordered more.WE ATE AND LEFT NO CRUMBS!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVERYTHING WAS DEVOURED!!!!!!!🤣😁🤤🤤Hands up and down this is the best Jamaican food we have from a local restaurant!!!! Yaad Style Jamaica Cuisine serves the BEST Authentic Jamaican Food in the entire Pacific North West!!!!! If you are traveling and need a good meal this is the place!!. If you live in the area, then you already know this is the place!!!!!! Yaad is the real deal. If you want Jamaican food that is hand crafted by those that know the flavors of the island, have the secret recipes built into their lineage, and care deeply about the food they serve you, then this is your place. $10-$15 will leave you with a full belly, perfectly spicy lips, and a satisfaction that is hard to come by these days. Try not to be discouraged if the owners son doesnt give you a bubbly/goofy/over-the-top welcoming when you walk in; remember that his attention is focused towards cooking you a feast and running a family business. 10/10 will go back again.

Was looking forward to eating here. Drove past many times. I wanted to show support for a business owned and run by people of color. Felt unwelcome as soon as a arrived. Asked about a dish and told me he could not explain it to me if I have never had it. Then told me there was no fish and that was the reason I went there. Customers he knew recieved a warm welcome. Will never go back there again, because I felt unwelcome not because they were out of fish. I wanted to learn and enjoy some good food but it wont happen there.

Well I was not satisfied at all. The person behind the corner wasnt really that friendly being I told her I was from Seattle and looked forward to their food. Anything i chose to have they didnt have. And for as long as I waited for my plate, I shouldnt have been able to hold it but of course the food was luke warm as if it was microwaved or dipped out of a slow cooker that had been turned off.In my opinion if there is no effort to make things taste good and have it fresh and right, then why do it. Maybe my experience will be better next time. I was super disappointed!!

We got the oxtail plate and goat curry..wow. It was delicious! We asked for extra gravy on the rice - this a must! It was all so delicious and cooked to perfection. I didnt notice any after taste from their foil to go containers that someone else mentioned here. Weve had a hard time finding an open Jamaican restaurant, and we were so happy to find this place. I pray other Jamaican restaurants make it through these unconstitutional lockdowns too. 10 people can go wait in line in the restaurant and touch all the same surfaces but cant eat in it..whatever. Must not remove sacred useless cotton cloth from face! Most are not scared of this virus anymore. Its obviously not an issue for most to conduct their lives as they would normally and interact with the public as much as they would normally. Enough with shutting down businesses already, OR. Youre turning your cities into homeless trash heaps. Protect your elderly and weak, let healthy people live again. No one I speak from other states want to come here anymore, and I likely will never visit OR cities again. Parks and rural areas are a different story. Sad they are opressed by OR gov. too. I wish all the best for this company and OR residents who want to be free to pursue happiness.

Just moved back to Portland after being gone for 3yrs and was excited to find this place. I ordered my favorite dish, Oxtail. The girl behind the counter was quite unfriendly/unenthusiastic. You might drive by Yaad Style, since its on a busy stretch of MLK and you have to find on-street parking. That would be a mistake -- the food here is SUBLIME, and, even in just takeout mode, the service is superb.
