Kind of the premier gay bar in this city, but it has a smoking problem. There are events every night, for a large variety of people and interests. Im sure you will have a good time. Drinks are average price I suppose. My largest issue is the closed-in smoking area you have to walk through if you want to go to the outside patio. Its not technically indoors because theres a trellis for the ceiling, but it has high walls and does not have any airflow. Almost all the smokers hang out here for some reason, maybe for the seating. If you have difficulty with second-hand cigarettes or cigars you may want to avoid this middle room. I dont like going to this bar for this very reason. Also, if youre expecting to park your motorcycle out front like most other Eagle bars, youll be disappointed as the motorcycle spaces are usually occupied by cars. There is a sign for motorcycle parking only but its ignored 100% of the time.
Definitely a gay bar. I love the outside areasBartenders are friendly. If you are going for the first time by yourself I recommend you sit at the bar so you can talk to who’s sitting close to you and the bartendersI go here often!
Bartender overcharged me for an extra drink as well as my friend and then decided to tip himself $15 and close my tab due to shift change when I was right there. Only my third time in the place. I asked the next bartender how that is okay and he just said is what it is you didnt close it. I was right there. You cannot just charge people what you want and tip yourself whatever you want. In some cases there is an auto 20 percent but again that is if someone doesnt close out and leaves. You charged me a 30 percent tip and again without my consent. You arent Yakuza.
Definitely angry that it cost $10 to get in and the website wasnt updated to let you know. Website said $5I wouldnt have come and wont ever if it costs that againSo ridiculous. It looks most fun for people if they look a certain way.If you dont look the part like me youll have a different experience.Lots of rules that only apply to people less attractive.I still like the atmosphere though.
First time there and I’ll definitely be going back. Good drinks and friendly hosts. Great place to go with friends or solo.
This is a great bar. It brings back the feel of an old leather bar or bear bar with imagery on the walls and TVs to really set the mood. This is a great place to cruise or just play a game of pool. The drinks are good and the NA beer selection is one of the best in town and the owner and patrons are friendly. The patio is large and the inside is small so dress for the weather if you want to be outside and not under the heat lamps. I just find that a good reason to wear leather to the leather bar though.
Absolutely love this place. I used to go all the time when I lived in town. Now its a great place to visit old friends and meet new ones when I am in town visiting! The staff and owner are all amazing!
One of the best most pleasant communities and bars Ive been in..
I spent a week in Portland and went here every night. Amazing. Hot guys. About the only place to take your shirt off without getting yelled at. Go here.
Bbq Thursday is quite a lively social event!
Theyve turned over a fabulous new leaf with the new owner. Sundays are bumpin, weekend parties vary but check out the website for the vibe beforehand. It can vary as well as the cover charge.
Update:They called me and formally apologized. I personally received a call from the manager (Paul) and he apologized and said I can come back to the bar. He did not require me to take down this post. This is q clear example of their care and genuine concern for me as a person. Thank you specifically Paul for restoring my faith in the Eagle. I will be returning and updating this post since things have changed.
Music was great but the customer service and bartender were trash! He was rude, condescending and acted as if we didn’t have enough money to pay for our drinks. Perhaps because we were all women smh. I wouldn’t recommend
Love it here. My bar and always a good mix of men. The bartenders are cool. Energy is good on Sundays. Saturdays. Every day really. Just depends
Went in expecting a casual queer friendly space. Wasn’t expecting a dive bar with pornographic imagery on every wall. Also AC or swamp coolers would be nice.
Nice little gay bar with a newly enlarged outdoor patio in back. A small dance floor area. Several slot machines. A well stocked bar. Very enjoyable experience and they host a lot of events.
Neighborhood dive bar that straight people wouldnt drink in. Bar staff is attitudinal and unfriendly
My friend Billy took me here one night and it was quite an experience! When you walk in with Billy, the whole bar stops and yells out Hey Billy! The place is really dark but cozy. Everyone was super friendly and it was a good mix of people. The drinks were priced well and the service was great!
Inexpensive beer and fast service. This is a place my friend Billy loves. Its not my type of atmosphere nor is it a place Id go unless he wanted too. I do have fun when Im there with him. Oh, the employees are really friendly too.
Amazing bar full of wonderful people. The bar staff are incredibly sweet and funny, and the bar backs are always quick to remove old drinks and always have a fun joke to tell.
As The only leather bar I know of in Portland because its a fun and interesting place be prepared for a shock to the system if youve never been to a leather bar in any other city and also dont have expectations if you have. Theyve always got jello shots which I enjoy but a very limited bar selections they really cant make a good cocktail so kind of stick to the basics like cranberry vodka beer or maybe a pineapple vodka but again I always enjoy the jello shots
Service colder than my frigid ex. No room for free thinkers or those who don’t toe the party line. Welcome to the gay scene in Portland! With tolerance and inclusivity for everyone- except those who think differently.
A total blast. I love to hang with great people and you can find them here. I enjoyed the atmosphere / the bartenders are friendly and in general meeting people in Portland are very friendly. As an A sexual female the men are gentlemen. DO GO.
Hmm what I can say. Its not like there are overwhelming options as far as bear-bars go. I seem to have good luck meeting new people here, and usually find someone attractive to cuddle with. Maybe not the best place to go if you are trying to find someone special, cause the vibe is hyper-sexual with porn grinding away on 10 different screens throughout the place. If you can manage to endure the aggressive groping, you still might find a meaningful date or 2 with a little time and effort, I know I have.I like the atmosphere(aside from being blasted with porn.) The lighting and the ambiance is comfortable and inviting, and usually not too loud to have a nice conversation.Being the only real bear-bar in Portland, its a great place to go if you like fuzzy man creatures. It is positively packed with bears, cubs and their admirers on the weekends. There are themed and rotating events here nearly every day, and I have to say these are a stroke of genius that continuously attracts a varied crowd of fuzzy men for different reasons. On the not awesome side. At some time, some years ago, they quit serving good cocktails. No longer is one allowed to purchase AMFs, Long Islands, or the like. I mean, how dare one try to get drunk at a bar!? Also, Im 386 lbs, so thats just a nice way to start my evening adventures -- I am quite bitter about the absence of such beverages.Mostly I have a good time here, after CC Slaughters was taken over by twinks and straight people, this was the only bar left where I can consistently find the type of guys Im into.
I needed to use their ATM and my idea was checked at the door like everyone elses and I was allowed to use their ATM. Which was all I needed and the crowd seem fun and the employees were seem to be on point and welcoming.
Biden is quad vaxxed and has covid again, when are yall going to stop being tyrants with your vaxx pass, there is no reason to force people to alter their DNA for zero benefit, get bent with your blindly following the state. This gay doesnt play that way.
Saturday event nights are a great time! Great music, friendly attitude, locals and visitors alike are made to feel welcome. Dan and his team are doing a great job!
Todays Eagle has changed but still encompasses a diverse and respectful group of men and boys/twinks that are comfortable with the low but tolerant attitude towards that diversity of real people in the community. The staff is fantastic and no longer just caters to friends when serving up a drink or giving quick service, the theme parties are a bit more clickish but hey, diversity is keeping the place open and allows for whatever youre into (twinks, bears, fetish, disco, hard rock, house). Its a place where you can be all that you can be...what you are today!
I walked in with another pretty lady, not realizing it was balls out Thursday lmfao. This is perfect if thats what youre looking for, think I will come back when Im more likely to find some femme camaraderie :D
I love this bar.first things first this is a neighborhood bar. one of my favorite things about the portland gay scene is that its not all about a gayborhood, its about community. part of that manifests itself in amazing smaller gay bars sprinkled all around the city walkable for folks in those areas.second thing to know is that this is NOT the big city eagle that you are expecting if you are from out of town. it has the eagle soul for sure, some fun dirty things here and there but not like what youve come to expect in say new york or sfo. this place is nice folks and friendly bartenders, an awkward dance floor that you just gotta jump onto if you wanna show um how its done. people will join but you gotta pave the way ;) theres also a great patio with heaters for those who get chilly on a rainy portland day.all in all, i love it. simple, dirty light and welcoming. indulge in the theme nights and your cover will be reduced or even free! even if you dont its usually only 2 to 5 bucks.happy bear hunting ;)
Friendly, theres sexy porn on some screens distracting in a good way. The back patio is a little gem. (Heated and enclosed for winter - so privacy) There are a lot of events to get the less mingle capable folk more active. Right now all the menfolk are nude.
Have enjoy myself in the past but consitently everytime i go there it gets less and less friendly and more more attitude. At this point I go just to meet friends, can be a lot different with Oregon Bear events but on a average night just not that great. The staff in general (minus owner) actual are quite friendly, pretty capable.overall dont expect a Eagle, expect a neighbor gay bar with a Bear focus...not the Duck(RIP) or the Downtown Eagle in the day.
Fun placeFriendly peopleGreat staffDoor guy Dillon was sweetBartender Matt was awesome, kind, engaging, and super attractive.I hope to come back again.
I was at The Eagle last Sunday and got too drunk and posted a bad review. It turns out I was wrong and the staff actually did their usual great job of taking care of myself and my partner. I sincerely apologize to Paxton and his crew!
What can be said about this place? My friend Billy took me here and I had fun! The fact that they only took cash was really annoying! I thought that server was nice and the customers were very interesting and fun! I was scared, but had fun!
Fun and friendly environment. The door man remembered me after only going twice. Nice to be somewhere that feels safe
Weird one drink per person rule but the patio is Wonderful and its everything you can expect from the eagle brand.
Always a good, cool time with friends and new ones. Very enjoyable crowd. Great drinks. Fun themes!
Great place to come! Cheap drinks and fun atmosphere! Dan the owner is the best and the bartenders are the most amazing !!
Old school gritty roots gay bar, last one in town. Dont expect it to b anything its not. Love the staff. Great smoking patio.
My go to neighborhood gay bar, always find a friendly conversation no matter what day it is, bartenders are curteous & pleasant, has a nice back patio, manager has done wonders for this bar in the last year, greatly improved!
Sexy men. Personable and professional bartenders. Diverse events. This is my go to bar. If you cant have fun here....well, you know the rest. Come and ENJOY!
Never know what cover will be. Use to be leather and bears. Now you are likely to get a high cover 8+ bucks for some unknown DJ without bears or leather. Have been a regular but with changes it is driving out the old crowd for a downtown hip club in nw. The eagle seems to be reinventing itself.
NOT an Eagle..... much more of a TURKEY.This is a neighborhood DIVE bar which is so filthy no straight person would drink here! And yes, I do see that they promote themselves as a Leather Bar. ... the only people who believe that are people, who have never been to a REAL Leather bar
Was rejected twice for having a British driving licence despite the official US Travel website saying this was an acceptable form of ID whilst travelling in the USA.
This pub has a very sweet guy as a bartender. He made me feel so comfortable even though I was feeling awkward as I am visiting from out of town.
Love the Eagle. One of the few places where you can drink and smoke, albeit outside but it is covered and heated. Drinks are good and the staff friendly.
Great place to go. Great crowd, bartenders are the best!!It’s not a weekend with out a stop at Eagle Portland!!!!!
The staff was friendly, pleasant, hospitable, approachable and interested in engaging with all their customers. The drinks were solid and priced fair.
Laid back yet frisky atmosphere, smoking deck with Heaters for the winter time, and excellent special nights listed on their Facebook page... what more can you ask?
Friendly people, great space and good drinks. Wish I spent more time there, looks like itd get wild!
Worst DJ ever! It was Karaoke night, which I hate! I had to QI on my phone to sing.I was like, never mind! Hate
The atmosphere is good, the bartenders really nice and not too expensive. its worth it to go
Door men, trash. Absolutely AWFUL. Avoid this place like the plague
Great service, stiff drinks, hot guys.
Favorite queer space at the moment. Great drinks and great people watching!
Watch out bartenders will try and over charge you for drinks you may have not had.
Great place to meet a friend and other gay men
Dive bar. Love it here. Needs more space tho. One of the smallest Eagle Bars Ive ever been to.
The owner isnt a good person.
The boy I brought was five stars. The venue isnt bad either.
Very nice outdoor! I would come back here again in the future!
Good Times...Nice place to chill and have a drink, super friendly staff.
I haven’t heard many good things about them.
Traveling through, picked this gem, not to bad.
Friendlier than most places , lots of eye candy and great music
Love this place. Unpretentious. Friendly. Always have felt welcomed.
Awesome atmosphere, and really loved the place!
Super! The best gay bar in Portland.
I dont fit in...Im gay, but sadly I feel like Im at a gay KKK shindig
5 💫 all around. One of the best dates I’ve ever been on.
A gay safe space with fantastic bartenders!
It can get raunchy in here. You always have a different experience when coming here.
Friendly bears, decent prices, microbrewery beer on tap
So so fun! All peoples welcome here!
Bros, butts, n buds.. All the goods.
Fun little gay bar
Overall, Im quite pleased.
I got good good chills
Fun atmosphere
This bar is desperate!
Love this place
Chill place
Flyer for the event said $5 cover did not mention it was cash only. Couldn’t get in because my atm card wasn’t working. I had debit card to pay such bs 👎🏾
Bar with a bear atmosphere, it is very pleasant to spend the evening drinking, I was treated very well at the bar by a man with a white beard helping us with the choice of prepared drinks, being a tourist and not an English speaker, the drinks are strong, very good, The atmosphere is pleasant, many bears of age but you feel at ease, the only thing to improve the music a little, Recommended for Latinos.
I would like to give this bar 5 stars because we had a lot of fun playing pool, drinking on the patio and talking with friends. Sadly there is a bartender who is rude and treated us differently than the rest, I could say it was discrimination, but I cant say that. I hope to have better experiences on my next visits.
