As a venue its fine. Staff was nice. Sound is good. Etc. if I had to criticize anything it would be the amazing stench emanating from the restroom area. It was difficult to tell if it was the fault of the venue or of a single individual who ate something they shouldnt have, but holy Christ it had weight and flavor. We held our pee through the show.

Fantastic! If you get there early, you might have access to seating in the balcony, bring a coat as the air-con is cold in the balcony. For hearing protection, you can get the highest protection from a hardware store, 33 is the highest and the best (dont go without hearing protection). The adjoining Bar Bar restaurant has great food and drinks, we had a great dinner at 5 and had drinks until the doors opened for the concert at 7, concert started at 8.Mississippi Studios also has a bar. There is a good parking lot nearby, and it was $10.00 for 12 hours, well worth it as street parking is difficult.

I visit when the show is a particularly good one, but this venue seems particularly dismissive of patrons’ needs. There is no way to call the bar itself with questions, the showtimes are listed incongruously across different platforms, and my partner was told she couldn’t bring her purse into the club. (This is for a folk show and we are nearly 50. So i doubt the threat of a knifing is a real concern.) Its a shame because the bar has a great selection, the building is cool, and they book decent acts. But the management decisions are completely daft!

Only one bartender showed any respect. Everyone else working at this establishment, specifically those behind the bar- much like the entire town of Portland- feels as if asking how their day is going is an imposing question. Most of the bar staff needs to get a a reality check or new job out of service if they wish to participate in being a human being on the this planet we will are forced to live on. Otherwise cool spot with nice space and cool architecture. Get new staff that don’t hate themselves and take out on nice folk.

It’s a very nice, clean venue in a part of town that I’ve never visited. We had a great time seeing Amanda Shires & Company. She never disappoints. The listening room was on the smaller side being able to host around 250 folks. If I would have known about the upstairs seating then I would have shown up earlier. But I settled on leaning next to the sound board for the best ear candy so I could peek at the set list. I figured she’d play John Prine’s ‘Saddle in the Rain’ and it was stellar. The surprise of the evening was running into the opening act frontman of Honey Harper. Hailing from Adel, Georgia, we had plenty to talk about beyond the King Frog outlet mall. William is a super nice guy that doesn’t play your dad’s country music. We rambled on about Atlanta and such. Looking into his Wiki page, I see that he’s a part of the Fussell family. I’m pretty sure I haven’t heard that name since growing up in my hometown. South Georgia is represented everywhere I go, as it goes.

I absolutely loved watching Charlie Hunter play here! The seating is a little tight (rubbing shoulders with the people sitting next to you), which is no big deal for me, but it might bother others. I didnt eat here, but I did try ordering a whiskey drink called a Smoking Gun. When I asked the bartender if she knew how to make that drink, she looked at me like I was bothering her and told me no. She didnt offer to make me something else, didnt apologize for not being able to give me what I wanted, nothing. I ended up just ordering a beer on tap. I walked away feeling like that bartender had few drink-mixing skills and even fewer customer service skills. That one bartender notwithstanding this place has a comfortable, funky and jazzy atmosphere and I very much enjoyed my evening!

I am compelled to share my experience at BAR BAR, a venue with a connected bar area. While the atmosphere and service were satisfactory, I must deduct two stars due to a concerning observation regarding their tip screen system. Unlike standard practice where tip options are presented from lowest to highest left to right, BAR BARs screen presents them in reverse order. This seemingly deceptive arrangement could lead patrons to unintentionally select the highest tip amount, potentially taking advantage of those who may be distracted or inebriated. Such practices undermine the integrity of the establishment and erode trust with customers. I hope BAR BAR addresses this issue promptly to uphold ethical standards and ensure a positive experience for all patrons.

The fact that this venue doesn’t take violence seriously is absolutely unacceptable. My friend was hit in the face by another patron, who then lacked the courage to own up to it, and nothing was done when security was informed. The security staffs best advice was to tell him to just stand somewhere, so clearly they have zero regard for peoples safety. Came into Portland to visit friends and go to a benefit show at Mississippi Studios. The place is beautiful. the folks at the front doorwere very nice. The issue a friend and i had was with the bar staff. As she was going to order a drink, one of the bartenders was a little uprupt with her. I went and ordered a drink with a different person. When i tasted my drink i told the bartender that it was weak. He said that he disagreed with me- that, it was the measurement of alcohol that it was supposed to be. I didnt appreciate that comment. I didnt see him measure anything. Ive worked as a bartender, waitress and other positions in the service industry. For me the saying the customer is always right should be a mantra that anyone that works in the service industry should have. You want a person to have a great experience when they go out.Otherwise why bother going out?! In conclusion, Mississippi Studios is a beautiful location but some of the staff can rub you the wrong way. P.s. Try the french fries! So yummy! 😀

Not much of a menu, mostly burgers, but the burgers were really good! I also had the fried pickles which were crispy and not too greasy. You have to order food at the bar or a window and they give you a number for your table, but the process was simple enough and since it is a pretty large and crowded restaurant this was probably faster than waiting for a waiter. Good space for meeting a larger group of friends, though if you show up during peak hours it would be difficult to find a table.

Burger here was great. For 2 beers and a burger for $20 this was a good find while we where in town. Like the patio they have since its covered but lots of seating. They have a fire pit out back that seems to the highlight area. During the night the project movies on the Patio and they have a walk up beer window. Live music next store allows this place to fill up quickly on concert nights.

I really enjoy this venue. The best sound is on the floor. I find the upstairs with the seats is ok but more boomy low end. They have a huge variety of acts and dont push sound levels for quieter acts. Drinks are fairly priced for a venue and BarBar makes some great greasy burgers for before (or after) your show. Mid sized venues is where its at- you can almost always be close to the front if you want and it makes for great performances.

Got to see one of my favorite bands here. Big Business was spot on. The sound was really good here. I was a live sound technician in Portland for a decade and I was impressed. They have a Midas analog board that has been kept in good shape. The sound is just right for the smaller intimate venue. I highly suggest catching a show here if you can. Worth it!

I had the time of my life at the Tora show this weekend. This was my first (not last) time at this venue and hooollly f 😻 I am in love. It felt like the closest thing to loungin’ in my own living room jamming to one of my favorite bands.Love the rugs. Love the whole venue. LOVE the upstairs squishy cushy cushions - which, much to my dismay is where I ended up sitting all night because they were just SO damn cozy.Literally felt like I was in the comforts of my own home rocking out.Freaking superb. Supreme gold stars. Cannot wait to come back here probably next week 😂I also love the cups the drinks are served in. Even my basic B soda and bitters came in a nice tin cup.So so so so freaking cute. All of it. Did I mention I cannot wait to hang out here again and will be looking for every opportunity to do so?!

Alright so firstly, the food from bar bar was amazing.Whats not amazing is their incredibly judgmental and power tripping security guards... i had one beer, wasnt even drunk. got cut off by this random guard and kicked out of the Stella Donnelly show (one of my favourite artists ever) because i tried to explain in a civil manner, that he was mistaken, he kept escalating and raising his voice while accusing me of doing just what he was doing!!He refused to give me his name or any information(skinny balding white male who claims to be the security manager)so if thats the kind of people this venue hires then ill absolutely preach my experience against this venue, which is a shame, because music should transcend this sort of behavior

If you cant it beef, youll have fun trying to find something to eat... We were there before 3:00 so was able to get a fried egg sandwich which was pretty good. My great niece ordered a coke & got a glass bottle of coke that was made with cane sugar instead of corn syrup which I considered a great thing. Another of my great nieces ordered fried dill pickles, which was a new experience for most of us to try. My one nephew & all 4 of my great nieces thought the french fries were great - everyone who had the fries finished them off. Those who had the hamburgers liked them. So my nephews will most likely take their families there the next time they come to Portland.

Great beer selection, fair prices, and an unrelenting indifference to the length of the bar line. This particular bartender was so slow that as I become more uneasy about standing in line for along, I started to wonder if something was wrong with me and if I needed to schedule some mental health visits. It was deeply unsettling how much she didnt care that people were in line. They moved several people to a second bar leaving me in the #3 position. First person got three mixed drinks and it took 7 minutes. Second person got a pint and a Moscow Mule. This took 4 minutes. Im sure the drinks were amazing. To be fair, I heard the bartender say it was her birthday, and I guess you can do whatever you want on your birthday. She didnt seem to know either of the two people ahead of me, but I think theyre all BFFs now. Talk talk talk talk talk. Not an ideal time when there were, literally, 12 people queued up.I wanted to say something, but this seems like the place where six people will tell me to check my white male privilege if I dared to say anything.A lot of great shows here, but Ill probably skip the drinks/meal before the show next time.

Went here for a concert. The main bar is nice and theres lots of outdoor seating in the back. Some areas back there are kept pretty warm with heaters, others were a bit too chilly to sit at. The other half of the venue is the concert area, which has a standing room area, a bar, and a small standing balcony/walkway. Its a relatively small venue, but that just means you are closer to the band, which is great! My only concern was that someone on the balcony dropped their drink and it shattered on the floor next to me. Im glad that it didnt hit me or anyone else, but it might be a safety concern for you. Keep from the right side of the concert area, as that is where the balcony is.

I went there during the Mississippi fair. The service was really nice, I had a male bartender and he was very nice to me. The bathrooms were okay clean but I guess theres a lot of traffic so I get that. The food was very weak, $8 for just one sandwich was ridiculous. And it wasnt even that good. Ive honestly only been to one show here but the sound was great and I had a great time. The venue is small and the bands that play there are small too. Shows are really cheap but generally the bands are unheard of. I went because this small band I used to follow in Seattle made an appearance. I like the decor, it has a different almost old-fashioned feel to it that makes it feel like youre in a converted home. I checked out Bar Bar next door and they made a pretty fab margarita and had some tasty fries. The atmosphere and the vibe you get when you come is positive. Patrons come to enjoy great drinks and good conversations.Dont forget to try a burger. Theyre consistently tasty. This is a great bar, all the ingredients are almost perfect, but I have to say the food and menu is just so-so. Its a very limited menu, and I think the bar staple, the hamburger, is lame. The BLT is pretty good, excellent French frys, but thats just about it. There are some really fantastic hamburgers in Portland, but not here.
