My wife and I were in Providence for the weekend and Free Play was on our itinerary. After stuffing our faces with some tasty pretzels from The Malted Barley, we decided to walk a few blocks over to the barcade.Im an 80s baby and previously visited a barcade in Salem MA. I had a good time there and was hoping to do the same at Free Play and share in the experience with my wife.We walked in thru the front door and had to pause a moment as I stood there in wide-eyed wonder looking around the place. Arcade games wall to wall. Neon signs. Dim lights. It was as if I was a teenager all over again entering an arcade. The wave of nostalgia was unreal. But the big differences are that I didnt have to save my allowance and beg for a ride to the arcade. Free Play is conveniently located near downtown Providence and $12 provided UNLIMITED play. Oh--and Im old enough to buy one of the many cocktails they pour up.After paying the cover charge to enter, we bellied up to the bar. I ordered Rainbow Road--ayo, shout out to Mario Kart--and a DownEast cider.Made our way over to Skeeball to get a few rounds in and then perused thru the venue to peep all the other games.Dig dug. Time Crisis. Marvel vs Capcom. Mortal Kombat. The Simpson. Pac Man. Galaga. Star Wars. Street Fighter. Honestly, let me just stop. Because the games they DONT have is a shorter list. And I havent even named all the pinball machines lined up on the wall. But lets keep it moving because just when you thought the 1st floor was a blast from the past, at 10pm the dance club inside Free Play opens. The Rewind Retro Dance Lounge is a dance club located on the 2nd floor of the barcade. Doors open for them at 10pm and remember that $12 cover we paid earlier? Yea, it covers your entrance into the night club too.Heading up the stairs I was expecting to dance the night away to the typical 80s and 90s songs every other dj tends to play. Not that theyre bad--it just gets old after a while. I mean how many times can you hear This is how we do it or Poison before your eyes roll out of your head? Thankfully, that wasnt the case at the Rewind Retro Dance Lounge. We were some of the first people thru the door and made our way to the bar. I was in the middle of ordering new drinks when the dj dropped Young Hearts Run Free by Candi Staton. Im pretty sure I let out an audible shriek as I jumped and ran to the dance floor. The absolute bangers didnt stop there. Music sounds better with you, ABBA, Daft Punk, The Bee Gees, Rick Ashley, Depeche Mode. Seriously, the dj didnt miss. When was the last time youve been in a club and Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode dropped? We danced for hours and ended our night around 1am because we had some activities planned in Newport later that morning. In my opinion, Free Play Bar Arcade is worth a visit if youre in the area. Were already planning our return trip in November for my birthday. That place has no business being that damn cool.
What a great time! $7 to get in. I’ve been to plenty of places like this and usually it’s every 3rd game is out of order and it’s gross. This was clean, and all games worked well! The beer selection is good and the cocktails are quite creative. For those that are interested there are a bunch of rhythm games, including modern stuff I’ve never seen. Overall a really great experience.
Easily the best arcade in New England that I’ve ever been to. Maybe best in the country. Game selection is excellent, owner is super chill, and live events/ outdoor spaces are awesome. Only wish they were closer to Boston. Value is also excellent. You can’t beat just paying a cover for unlimited play. My only complaint is that the cocktails are mostly super sugary stuff geared towards college students but if that’s the target demographic so be it.
Went to this place a week ago, and can happily say that the games are fantastic. If you are with a group even more fun to be had. Drinks were served in a very unsanitary bar sticky surface and random tips all over. And the bartender who served me was very unprofessional, rude and intoxicated. Even demanded tips for just opening a can. If you plan to visit please save your money for better food and drinks elsewhere.
What can you say! A place with pinball machines new and old at that. What is that my favorite cabinet TAPPER! I had to drive to Funspot in NH to plat Tapper. Love this place The best thing is they are building one close to home and it opens in the fall! Super excited.
This place is amazing. Most weekdays you pay $7 to get in and $10 on the days they have the dance floor open (I think Friday’s and Saturday’s). Then inside all the games are set to Free Play hence their name. So worth it and the drinks are priced well. I’ve yet to have the pizza here but I’ve heard it’s good. They also have an outdoor smoking area if you’re into that. The variety in games is great and the recent additions of new games have been welcome. Totally great place for a night out with friends.
The value for fun is awesome and theres so much to do always! I love it here and the staff it awesome. The drinks are good too and the crowd is friendly
I feel like they need to clean a tad more, so when you walk in it doesnt smell like a mens locker room. Other than that, best selection in games especially the pinball machines because thats why we went there to begin with. Big variety of old school games and they even have newer and old game console systems in the back if thats your pleasure. A few snacks and drinks, but we werent there to eat. We cant wait to go back to play more pinball!
This place was SO FUN!!! I was surprised that it cost $7 to enter but was incredibly pleased to learn that all the games are included with the cost of entry. The name may have given it away but I didn’t realize. There were so many options and so many games to play. The machines were all really well maintained. It was really cool to try games I wouldn’t normally want to pay to play.I wish there was a NYC location, I’d go there in a heartbeat.
Great games. Great atmosphere! They have just about every game you can think of! And its all set to free play for 7 bucks during the week and 10 on the weekends. Thats not bad at all.
Had a great time here! Entry price is reasonable, game selection is excellent, staff was pleasant and helpful, and the bar was on point. Finally beat House of the Dead with my husband!!! We will definitely be back. :)
Great environment. Good selection of machines with a lean toward group activities - DDR, guitar hero, 4+ player beat-em-up, etc. A few hard to find gems such as Killer Instinct and D&D Tower of Doom. Fun themed cocktail choices.Outside of a steering issue with one race game cabinet, all the machines we tried were clean and in top notch shape.
We recently rented Free Play out for my nephews 12th birthday party, and the kids had a blast! It was a fun time for the adults too! Ive been here a few times before while out with friends, and while I dont go to Providence often, this is the place I recommend to everyone. The games are nostalgic, the atmosphere is good-old fashion fun, and the staff are super nice! Zara, our bartender was fantastic, the drinks she made were absolutely perfect! Anthony, the owner, was so accommodating and so helpful with our party. I cannot recommend this place enough!
Always a good time. I take my son to the Family Fun Days on Sundays and he loves it. Great for adults and kids. Been a few times on Adult nights and also had a blast. The pizza is good and the adult beverages are decent.
What a gem! For only $7 per person you get to play all these awesome old time favorites fo as long as you want. Great date night. Fair warning the drinks are a bit pricy and their pizza was terrible. It was partially burnt, we were only able to eat the very middle circle because a thick part of the crust was just too hard so would not eat there again but would definitely go back. Friendly staff. Clean place. Highly recommend it, just eat before or after.
Game selection is excellent, staff was friendly. Wishing there was a bag check though since they don’t allow backpacks. I travel down from boston often w my bike and need to carry a bunch of stuff all the damn time. It would be really nice to kill time here but there’s not really anywhere to stash my bag!
Entry price is pretty cheap and the booze selection is great. So many amazing games however we arrived around 815 and by 9 the place got so packed it was really hard to find a game to play. They should limit the people inside. 2nd floor has a dance floor & music, when we went it was karaoke. Place needs more tables just for sitting and talking.
This place is awesome. Ive been here a few times now, and will definitely be going a few more. My only complaint is that the Buffalo chicken pizza I ordered was practically flavorless. But the drinks and atmosphere as great.
This place is AWESOME! Great way to spend a night.. Its more of a younger crowd but Ive seen people of all ages.. Who doesnt love video games!
FreePlay is the place to go! Lots of of fun arcade games, dance floor, smoking area, the best air hockey community and they have the BEST customer service. The bartenders always serve with a smile, and one specifically, Daren, saw that I got injured off the air hockey table and went out of his way to find the best medical supplies around and doctored me up. 11/10 place, you have to go!
This place has so many games that you won’t find at other bars. Retro arcade games as well as rhythm games such as SMX, DDR, WACCA, sound voltex, etc. Definitely come here if you have free time to spare. You will not regret it.
This spot is lit.. a little crowded on Fridays and Saturdays..but still gr8 vibes..no drama just fun..good drinks.. a little pricey some of em but still good selection.. outdoor smoke area..all the games work..its lit lit..oh and its cheap to get in and all games free..guess thats why some drinks are pricey which is totally understandable 😏🔥.
Free Play is Super Chill and fun atmosphere for 21+ retro gaming! Its also only a 7$ cover charge.I didnt drink anything so Im not sure how reasonable the alcohol is or not unfortunately. There are also some real relics in here so make sure to take the time to walk around a few times and make sure you catch everything.
Great games, drinks and music! Always a good time. Just wish it had better parking, but thats the city for you!
Me and my boyfriend love it here for date nights! It can get crowded but with so many machines there’s never not something to do. There is a dance floor upstairs but it’s not great the djs everytime we’ve gone are terrible. 😅 and there was a bartender with blonde hair that was incredibly rude when I didn’t tip on one of my three rounds upstairs. So we stay downstairs and keep to the nice staff that’s always on the downstairs bar!
Our last night in Rhode Island and we wanted something to do and found this place. It was 7 dollar admissions and then you can play all the games you want for free. They have all the classics from street fighter to the Simpsons to NBA jam. They also have DDR. I wish they had guitar hero, but this is definitely a fun spot to go to and they make good drinks.
All the video games you love and recognize for 12 bucks admission o. The weekend. You cant go wrong with a dance floor and good dj too Fun for all ages. Ill be back for sure
If you like old fashioned arcade games, this is the place for you. They have a lot of different games from skee ball, air hockey, pac man, you name it. They also have live music upstairs in the weekends, the band we saw was extremely talented. The place sort of has a weird smell but I think its the nature of the old equipment @amp_eats (instagram and Facebook)
Awesome barcade to play classic & new arcade games. Cheap cover to get in and all games on free play. Awesome staff as well. Highly recommend.
One of the greatest places ever. $10 cover charge for all the old school games you could ask for - set on free play!! Played so much skeeball too - only game we had a hard time getting on was air hockey but hardly a bummer. Wow, if Boston had something even close to this.. ugh what an amazing place.
Awesome adult experience, yes this place is for 21+ but its still Awesome. So many games some classic some Ive never played before. Awesome drinks and great atmosphere! Definitely recommend trying it out if you like classic games and the best part is every game is FREE yes FREE you can play a game as much as you want. For example my friends and I beat the entire Simpsons game while we were there. Absolutely worth checking out! Cant comment on the food though, havent tried it but I definitely will at some point.
Cool place except for playing sound voltex. Who knows how much beer has been spilled on those cons. Anything above a 16 is downright impossible with the amount of misfiring.
First time here and it didnt disappoint. Had a blast. You can have a drink and play many games for free with all types of genre of music. Door price is also very fair. I would definitely recommend.
Monday nights at Freeplay have been a staple for my friends and I for a few years now. It’s a safe space for LGBTQIA and they host drag shows. There’s a lot of new local talent that gets to showcase there. The bartenders are friendly and efficient and Kyle always guesses my drink before I even ask. There is such a great collection of games here and it really speaks to my elder millennial nostalgia. The crowd is very mixed and changes every week. There’s always hand sanitizer available.
One of my favorite places to go for nighttime fun in Providence! The cover is super reasonable, the game selection is great, and the karaoke and dancing upstairs is a blast!
Awesome place to hang out. Service at the bar was fast and friendly where we ordered a tasty 12 bar pizza that was enough for two. Gameplay was pay once for unlimited access to every game (except for photo booth: (protip- great lighting for selfies))The plethora of games to choose from allow for a high re-visit value as trying to play every game might not be possible in a single visit. Classics such as air hockey ( 1v1 and 4-way), skee ball, Dance Dance Revolution, and pinball offer great value as you can increase your skill without having to drop in constant quarters.Lots of retro games to play which can quickly lose their appeal without the nostalgia factor, but modern games such as competitive Mario Kart (one unit was broken for launching items) are worth coming back to.Pinball fans were well served with about 6 classic machines operational. Bubble hockey was a blast but unfortunately one of the players was a little broken making the matches kind of one-sided.Good vibes.
I went for Gayme night on Monday. Go a bit early to play the games but the drag show is a must see! I’ve never been so welcomed, great vibes! There were plenty of games to choose from. Can’t complain for $4.00 cover. I’d like to see them repair some of the games but I don’t know anything about arcade maintenance. The drinks were tasty as well.
Loved getting here early and having the place to ourselves. Got a little crowded around 9. Parking next door is 22 bucks.
Oh hey, this is DGAF... Or at least it used to be. Im wicked happy with what theyve done to the place, it used to be a club but not its a spacious barcade. In true fashion to this location I started the night off with a drink and dancing, just this time it was DDR and not a live DJ... With the same music 😂. Great place though totally beats all the barcades Ive been to in the Boston area, by the shear amount of space this place has you dont need to constantly worry about bumping into people.
A very good friend introduced me to this place. Playing the free arcade games is worth paying the cover charge. There is a full bar, and food is available. It is a great place to go with a friend or go alone and make new ones. Definitely will return another time!
$7 cover weeknights, love the dance floor up top 🫶🏼. Glad colosseum is gone bc nothing good was ever going on in that place and this is way better. All games free once you’re inside. Specialty drinks are $11-$13. Fun place in general. Decent selection of pinball machines.
It was like taking a trip back to my childhood/teenage years. There were so many cool games and after paying a $7 cover all the games were free! Much less expensive than any arcade Ive ever been to. We went on a Sunday and it wasnt very busy so we didnt have to wait for any games. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. We went for a date night and it was a lot of fun. They also do a family day one Sunday a month. Im definitely considering bringing my grandkids.
What an awesome fun concept. $10 for tons of free arcade games. Not to mention top notch bar service and drinks. Upstairs is a DJ spinning fantastic music if you want to turn up and dance all night. Family and friends really enjoyed their unique experience here! Fantastic bartenders as well.
This place is super fun! It’s got tons of arcades and games, a bar, a dance floor on the second floor. Cool spot to hang with friends
The area around is a little sketchy but its really cheap to play that many games and the outdoor part is a great event space
Solid experience, drag queens and arcade games is all you can ask for!As far as Providence activities, I would say that free play is among the most fun Ive had in a night with relatively low hassle. We went on a Monday for a drag event and I loved it! Its a solid bar experience, with an acceptable selection of alcohol, but the main draw is clearly the events and arcade selection.Overall its a good night out! Id recommend stopping by for one of the special events.
This arcade bar offered free play air hockey, skee ball, pinball, and arcade games with great music on a Monday night with only $5 cover charge per person. Staff was very friendly with fast service of delicious arcade-themed drinks. The womens bathroom was extremely clean and well kept. Hand sanitizer was available for use between games. Excellent value for a fun evening out and would certainly return if ever back in Providence.
This place like the games Here have only gotten better with time!, the new japanese rhythm games they added gave it such a cool vibe!
Ive been on a Wednesday night and a Friday night. Wednesday was dead, and upstairs club wasnt open, but I kinda liked it like that. Friday had a live band outside which was great both times I went. The upstairs club was fun, but they need to play better music. Drinks were DELICIOUS! Bartender was soo nice and made the best drinks! Overall very fun time out if you like video games
This place is a MUST if you are a fan of arcade games. Classics, pinball, skeeball, even Japanese rhythm games! Some machines could use a little TLC, but with a cheap cover charge for UNLIMITED free gameplay theres plenty of options to choose from!
For 12 you can play everything. Not too full during the week. Several types of machines. They have three dancing ones. Amazing place to go any day of the week. They have parties upstairs in the weekend and those are amazing as well. The crowd is also diverse and chill. Love it here.
Free play is always a great place to hang out and play all the video games from your childhood…. How can you go wrong for 12$ and every video game under the sun!
My favorite arcade bar. Maybe my favorite bar. Life goal: top high score on the JAWS pinball machine
We went on a weekend night and paid a cover fee to get in, from there you can enjoy live music outside or all of the games inside for free. The outside section is a little small, no matter where you hangout you will get a whiff of the cigarette section. There are two bars to order drinks from but the cocktails we got were very sugary and didnt seem like the highest quality. The games were fun, we would often have to wait for them as it was a bit crowded but the wait was never too bad. We got the pizza which was pretty good but there was no plain cheese option, it comes spicy! Definitely a great night out for a date or big group.
I drove all the way from New Hampshire to there for the family day.And we were there in opening time and I couldn’t enter because it was crowded exactly in my time to enter with my family.I am extremely upset because I tried call few days before and no one answer the phone or call me back because I was predicting it could happen and I wanted to buy tickets in advance.Terrible experience in family day.I don’t recommend to go.
I have come to this place 3 times and at first I wasnt a huge fan, but last night I changed my mind they have karaoke here sat night and omg its a lot of fun! They have a huge stage and also play karaoke bingo! I had the best time singing and playing bingo. The bartenders here are awesome very fast and sufficient. awesome customer service and loads of fun. I hear the mixed drinks are good as well but I just drink fireball so cant say much about that. oh Friday live bands as well. pretty awesome place I must say. 12 to get in cant beat it.
Great volume and variety of classic games. Even on a busy Friday night still plenty of accessible games with a group of 4 to enjoy. Cover was $20. Decent bar selection. Great night out with friends. Most games were functioning pretty well. Skee ball and air hockey were nice additions to classic cabinet style games from 80s and 90s.
Fantastic arcade bar. When I went it was $7 for a weeknight and $12 on the weekend. The cover charge is very fair considering the amount of games they have in house. They’ve got classics, driving games, Japanese rhythm games, air hockey, skee ball, and more. They also have an outdoor smoking area and a whole other upstairs area with a dj and dancing. Bartenders are friendly and offer up beer and shot combos. Good place to waste a couple hours at.
Awesome place, I love it. If you guys get a Taiko Drum Master game from Japan youll be SET.
Love the arcade and drinks, but the music is lacking. The live bands are awesome but the DJ always plays weird remixes/songs. Not worth dancing to on a Saturday. But for the arcade and bar downstairs, amazing!
I’m 30, so I was expecting to get lots of quarters to play these games. But once I found out that it’s ‘all you can play’ for a 10 dollar entry fee, I was definitely hooked. Drinks & pizza are great also.
Really awesome place, get a lot for the price of admission. Drinks are great and I am able to enjoy playing pinball for more than 5 mins without getting frustrated because it is free. They installed a few more modern rhythm games recently that are crazy fun - they have a memory system so I’d love to be able to buy a card to level up!
LOVE THIS PLACE! Hidden Gem in downtown Providence. Only 10$ entry per person to experience everything youd like in a night out, in one location. On the first floor, is all you can play arcade games with a full bar, to enjoy with your friends. Feel like dancing?? Make your way to the second floor, where you have a nightclub with another full bar and DANCE FLOOR, to take your training from Dance Dance Revolution, to the test! They could upgrade/fix some games on the first floor, overall great experience.
Really cool place with good drinks and a great game selection. Super reasonably priced. Definitely a chance to get back in touch with your childhood arcade experience. I happened to be here after dinner on a date that went super well conversationally and so we just grabbed drinks and chilled by the bar area and didnt play any games at all. Definitely will come back though and play the heck out of Simpsons, Turtles in Time, and X-Men. If you come in with a bag or purse just be prepared to have it searched thoroughly. Also save yourself some trouble and dont have a camera with you. Ive heard that theyre really strict with that and may not let you in.
This place is awesome if you are in the area I highly recommend it. You pay 10$ and then you can play unlimited games, arcade, pinball, air hockey, skee ball. They have all the classics and some newer games really nice. Theres a bar inside with very friendly bartenders, we actually met the owners who were sitting at the bar and asked us if everything was to our liking.
This place is a great concept, but its burdened by its poor management. Things are reasonably priced, but many of the games are broken which you dont figure out until you start playing them. If you open a tab at one bar, you cant use that same tab at other bars in the establishment, which there is no excuse for this day in age. Finally, their tab system is pretty flawed, as I was charged for many more drinks than I purchased over the course of the night. In their defense, I didnt stick around to resolve the issue, as the place was packed and my DD was ready to go. If this place was managed better itd be an amazing establishment.
Such a fun nostalgic place. Have gone over a dozen times. For $10 you get to play all the old school games for free. They have such a variety. Classic
Pay your cover and all games are free inside! Theres a good variety of games, including a couple of 4-person air hockey tables! Definitely going back again soon
Great games, great atmosphere, TONS OF FUN. $7 cover charge gets you inside but ALL THE GAMES ARE FREE. Great place to go with friends or for a fun date to help ease the tension (I recommend air hockey personally 😁). All in all great place to go out and have fun.
One if the best places in Providence. Prices are going up, but honestly..12$ fir unlimited gaming. Lots of drinks for a chill 21+ group and frankly as someone who grew up on the old cabinets, it brought back a lot of fun memories. If you have not been to this one, please go and check it out., have a drink and order some flatbread pizza. They do have a family day that rotates between both locations, so yes there is time set aside for kids to experience the old style games.
Awesome place to hang out have a drink, play some video games or see some good bands. #Rewind
Casey is the most amazing, handsome, interesting, charasmatic worker we have ever had the fortune of meeting, especially at this fine establishment. We had trouble with the airhockey table, the pucks were missing and he got us new ones. He even made sure our puck slid properly and switched it out for us a second time.He later helped us with the drink selection. Amazing insight, great to talk to, could have chatted for hours on end.Overall great guy, I will definitely be returning, and be sure to stop by and say hi to Casey!
I came to check out their pinball lineup and while theyve got a very good lineup, the way they are presented needs a lot of work. For some reason, they have pinball in very dark areas. While pinball in the dark isnt super fun, it can work if you know what youre doing. Free Play does not, unfortunately. They arent using anti-glare glass nor playfield screen blockers so the screen and UV/red overhead lighting create harsh reflections on the glass, making it difficult to see the ball. Worse, the balls in these games apparently are never replaced so they are dark and dingy, making it even harder to see the ball in the dark. There are some other issues too. Almost all of the machines have a noticeable lean to one side. The sound is set very low so you cant hear any of the machines. The only sound you here is the super-loud air hockey table clinging over and over again. A few of the machines have weak flippers, which is inexcusable for a commercial establishment with a lineup like this. Change your coil sleeves, guys. They are 15c and 5 minutes of work. Also, there seems to be no process for reporting broken games. I feel bad because a lot of people will experience pinball for the first time at this place and it is not a good first impression. For better players, they have Stern Insider leader boards on display which would be cool but they are off to the side on these small cheap LCD screens with a poor viewing angle so you cant read them unless youre right on top of it. They should be on big screens on the same wall as the machines. Ive also been told they reset all the high scores every couple of months which I defeats the purpose of even bothering. The selection of video games is excellent and Im sure the experience is better since it doesnt matter if those are in the dark. I found it pretty comical that they card people who are clearly 40+. Seems like a waste of time. Its nice to see great titles all in one place, and if they work on presentation, theyll have a really nice place to play pinball.
Very cool spot. Old school games, like going through a time machine. Brings you back to the good old days. Definitely recommend it.
You pay less than 20 bucks to get in and play over 50+ retro games. no more comments on my end, just go and play and have fun!
I love it here, but it gets really crowded on Family days. Sometimes you have to wait a really long time in line to play the game you want.
OMG! If you were born in the 50s, 60s or 70s and remember fondly the arcades of our youth, this place will bring it all home. Inexpensive (basically free) Freeplay has a HUGE assortment of pinball along with all your favorites - Pacman, Blaster, shooting games, dance-off machines, skeeball, racing games...if you remember it...its probably here. A cold brew, good food, and an ambiance reminiscent of those old arcades will leave you smiling. A huge winner for me!
Great Games, beer and fun.... all the Iconic games from the past all for a reasonable entry fee. Been there a few times. It can get crowded on Saturday night. So get parking early.
It had great retro games and the atmosphere was pretty cool. It has all the games that I grew up on. Trying to find a place to park was a game in itself in which I finally got one 3 blocks away. The place was way over crowded and there was nothing to clean a gaming machine before using it. It has a great bar but the drinks tasted a bit weak. Other than a trip down memory not worth the trip again.
We had a great time but I recommend going on a weekday instead of a weekend. There were too many people Saturday night and not enough games to accommodate everyone. The food was okay, we got.a pepperoni pizza its super thin and tased like a typical pie would. The drinks are a bit expensive too. All in all, its a fun place to go and we had a great time.
Had the time of my life! Its cash only to get in. I played so many game that brought back so many memories. There is a small club on second floor.. i was too chicken to venture there. Small bar downstairs didnt get any drink. Overall i had an awesome time.
DDR machine was decent, especially P2 side. PIU cant hear anything.
Fun stuff. Games I have not played in 30 years. Need to practice more..I will be back.....in fact have been 2 more times since our first try. We keep remembering games and .......yes they have them. Took a whole bunch of friends here for my 50th birthday....as a break....spent 1 hour totally worth it.
This place is wild. They have a very large collection. Most of the games are in good working order. I wish the mars attacks pinball was working. The club upstairs was a fun option. The dj was playing 90s music. We had a great time dancing. I didnt try much to drink. The prices seemed reasonable. It was a nice mixed crowd of people. The volume of people Saturday night was disorienting and a number of times I had to skip a game I wanted to play because it was in use. Overall I had a good time.
I love this place. It usually gets packed on the weekends in my experience. I dont mind the $10 weekend cover here as all games are free to play. Some of the machines dont work the best (buttons sticking, driving games glitching or not working, etc.) But the majority are in decent working order. They also have a dance floor upstairs on the weekends. Definetly worth the trip in.
I visit a lot of Barcades and arcades in my travels. This one is one of the best I’ve been in. 99% of the games were all fully working, and kept in excellent cosmetic condition as well. Great bar , decent food too. Thus is probably the best deal in RI. A must visit if you into pinball and video games.
Always a great time. An incredible pinball selection.
Worst place ever. Overpriced high priced watered-down drinks. Yes, I said watered-down, I seen the bartender adding water into a liquor bottle.
Great place to get out of the rain and spend a couple of hours.
Price went up to $12 but not bad. For all you can play and cheap drinks and some good music. They currently have different bands perform every Friday.
Im terrible at surviving in video games, so having an arcade that basically has an Unlimited Quarters cheat turned on is AMAZING. Im pretty sure we used the equivalent of a few hundred dollars in quarters in one night. Free Play is so much better than oldschool arcades or newer places like Dave &Busters, the number of games is staggering, so there really IS something for everyone, and they games all WORK, none of them are broken and sitting there unplayable. 10/10 Ill be back anytime Im in Providence.
Who doesnt love video games? Great if youve been playing them all your life. Drink was great. A little on the stronger side but not complaining. The games that my friend and I played were working fine. Except for one. The right input wasnt working. Happy they have more Japanese music game machines! Security was friendly. A lot of people. Great time for summer activities. Parking took a bit to find but overall had fun.
Amazing place to hang out. Absolutely worth the money.
What a pleasant surprise, this was. My fiance and I just moved here a few months ago and had this saved to our list of places we wanted to visit. For his birthday, we decided to take a drive downtown and check it out. There was a great selection of games here, from old arcade games, excellent pinball classics, skee ball and air hockey. There was also a full bar. The lights, the sounds and the smell are sure to take you back to your childhood. We planned on a short stay but ended up having so much fun, we stood for three hours. The staff was great. The crowd was great. We cant wait to return.
This place is awesome and it even has family day every other Sunday
Was such a fun time. My wife had my surprise 50th birthday here and it was a blast with all my friends and family. Best part is you pay a cover charge and after that you can play all of the games unlimited the whole night. ABSOLUTELY will come back!!
Super fun. Go here over Dave n’ Busters!
Alot of old school games and a few new ones. Air hockey, pinball and more.
Such rude and dismissive security. I took one step onto the dance floor on the second floor and literally fell and hit my head because there was such a built up puddle. Fine, yeah, it’s a dance floor (never had that experience at any other club I’ve been to in all my years of going out) but I told the security guard (not even complaining) to just put up a wet floor sign and he was like “go and put some napkins down yourself.” As if I should do this places job. 20 minutes later I saw him actually wipe it down after being so dismissive of me.
Glad to see this place reopened!I find Free Play Bar Arcade to be a solid attraction if youre looking for a fun night out with a nice variety of games. We came here after dinner on a Saturday evening and didnt have to wait, but by the time we left at around 9, it was busy. If you dont want to wait to play some popular games, Id recommend coming here somewhat early! They have a good selection of games ranging from old classics to more modern games and the price is reasonable.Overall, I will definitely be coming back.
First time here omg I relived my childhood playing old school pinball video games when they first open.. highly recommend
Really fun bar, has an exceptional number of games for anything youd want to play from sports games, to coop, to competitive. The number of rhythm games is also exceptionalOn top of that the bar is well stocked with all the regulars as well as some fun themed cocktails and their pizza is no joke either.Worst part about it is that there isnt one closer to home, would 100% come back here
Tons of fun for $7 entry fee! Decent drink options. Only issue is the lack of transparency regarding bags. Purses and the like only! I had friends turned away because they had backpacks
Really fun spot, lots to do and not too expensive. Only arcade I’ve seen that also has a live band outside and they were killer. Music choice in the place itself was also really good. 10/10 spot
It was a lot of fun on family day. Crowded like crazy and the bartenders were very quick and friendly. The pizza? I dont recommend it. But the games?! Loved them all. Even the ones I forgot I hated when I was younger. Its definitely a fun, special treat for my son and his friend. We will be back for sure.
One of the BEST spots in the city! They have a great space, 2 bars, tons of retro and cabinet games, airhockey, and upstairs, theres a dance floor and DJ. Also, the staff are amazingly good people. Several times a friend or I have lost jewelry there, and its been returned every time. Great place, with amazing people!
This is one of the best bars Ive ever been to and I cant recommend it enough. We were out for my friends bachelor party and someone mentioned it so we decided to go. $10 cover ($7 on weekdays) and they have almost every arcade game you could wish for and they are all set to Free Play. We were having so much fun and then I happened to see there was an upstairs. I expected there to be more games and was happily surprised to find there was a dance party and another bar. Cant wait to go back.
My favorite spot in providence to go to on the weekends hands down.
Lots of fun! Old style arcade games and pinball machines. Unlimited play for $10. Dance floor on the second floor with great vibes and music. Highly recommend for a fun and cheap night out!
Hands down, the best gaming place Ive ever visited. It was so nostalgic for me and I had a blast, along with the small group of friends that joined me.Theres a $10 charge at the door, but you can play the games as long as you want. They even had my favorite game, Dance Dance Revolution!I highly recommend this place. My friends and I will be returning soon!!
I’m sure it’s fun for everyone, but as people who grew up in the 80’s with these games I feel like it’s even more fun! It’s super reasonably priced to stay for as long as you want and play whatever games you want(they are literally all free once you pay the $7/person entrance fee) and there is a bar! Also, the staff that we met was great. They were all super friendly and nice. I’m from out of state, but if we come back to Providence we would definitely be back, and would absolutely recommend it to anyone in the area.
Probably 60-70 arcade games from the 80s. $10 cover and all the games are free to play. Most of the games are in good working order; a few had minor issues like buttons sticking, etc. Its a bar and sells pizza. Not too crowded early evenings on weekdays, but packed with college kids on a Saturday night. Very friendly staff.
My friend brought me here to celebrate me paying off my car. The staff are absolutely fantastic and the drinks are tasty! I dont know what I can say about dozens of video games that isnt obvious. It is an awesome spot!
This place is freaking awesome. $10 cover gets you unlimited play on 100s of games that you miss and love. Drink selection is on point and is reasonably priced. Great for anyone 21 to dead. Check it out, you really should. Games you miss, love, and some that you havent even heard of. Dancing too, and its not a sausage fest. Love it.
Awesome 80s retro arcade packed with tons of classic games and a great pinball selection as well. Add some drinks to the mix for even more fun!
The best bar to chill with friends. Its only 10 bucks cover then its unlimited games and a fantastic dance floor. Smoking area outside but gated. Friendly staff!
How did I not know about this place before? This is such a cool place! Lots of games, good drinks and a fun dancing floor upstairs! My new go to place from now on!!!
Love this place! Perfect Date Night Place ( can be 21 or 51) We go out with our adult children here and all play air hockey together!
The games were a lot of fun, the staff was very pleasant, I like the bartenders they were patient, polite, and accommodating, the clientele were not big drinkers, polite people, the drinks were about average in price. I cant wait to go again.😊the absolute best thing is the arcade...they have every kind of game and you pay the 5 or 10 admission and you can play every game you want for as long as you want and its free!!! People have had a birthday party, etc there. The beer is only 4.00 and the staff and the owners are great. They just had their 1 year anniversary and it was great. There are a few parking lots close by and during the week frequently there is no attendant so it is free! Otherwise, at these lots they are $10.00. Call to make sure they are not doing repairs, etc. But I think they are closed Monday and Tuesday. I am addicted to one pin ball machine myself but...they have it all.Its a little money for for all you get. They have different type medium size pizzas. Of course, you must be 21.
This is my go-to place to get drinks with my buddy after work, the staff is super friendly and they have some of the best cocktails around; the medieval madness and Terminators are probably my favorite two drinks from any bar around. Not to mention theres a plethora of awesome arcade games and a dance hall upstairs thats open on Saturdays. This place is awesome!
Really enjoyed my birthday here. The vibe was a litter odd downstairs if in being honest. It didnt bother me and I just did my own thing. The dance floor upstairs was hella fun and one of the bartender even bought me shots for my birthday.Everyone here was super friendly and happy to have some fun! 10/10 would recommend for a group
Really cool arcade. Its more geared to Japanese style DDR and other rhythm games. But they have most of the big classic arcade machines youd hope to see. Plus a bar. The best part is that every machine is set to free play and you only pay $7 to enterThats a crazy good deal
The bar and the atmosphere were great and the drinks were reasonably priced, additionally the cover charge was more than reasonable. I give 3 stars because 1 in 7 arcade machines I walked up to were broken to the point of unusablity (or very close to it). Its disappointing that I feel the need to give 3 stars but, if you promise an arcade bar, deliver an arcade bar. Do NOT deliver a handful of broken machines that you expect your patrons to pay for.
Went in with a friend for some games and drinks. Came out with ringing ears and a headache. This place is really good fun and I loved going on Gayme Night on Monday, a lot of really cool people, but the music needs to turn down a bit. It is plain too loud and if you dont go with earbuds youre going to regret it.
Great atmosphere and choices of games, all available for a really affordable cover charge. Definitely a super fun experience that I would recommend. That being said, we forgot to leave a couple nips and a pepper spray in our car which were noticed and confiscated during bag check. They said they could hold onto it and it will be there for us when we leave. We said okay, and when we were leaving and looking for our items they said we wont be giving it back to you. This kind of sucked after a fun night out and Im still bitter about it, but then again I probably shouldnt have trusted leaving anything with them in the first place and just walked them back to the car.As concessions for the nip-napping I leave them with 3 stars. The place is great but make sure you dont leave any items with them as you might not see them again.
My child and I went to check out the Family day they have on some Sundays, $10 admission and all the games are set to free. My kid is autistic, so when we go somewhere, we take a look around to see how crowded, loud, etc. it is and if it is something that we can do that day (for those who are unfamiliar, people with autism can have sensory sensitivities and processing difficulties, another thing a lot of people dont realize, their ability to tolerate things they are sensitive to can vary day to day)We have never had an issue at any establishment with being able to take a look around before deciding whether we can participate or not. Until now. The lady working admissions did not want to let us take a quick look, I explained the situation, and finally I suggested letting us walk in about 10 feet, still in her line of site, just so we can see if my autistic kid wanted to go here or if it was too loud or busy today. The owner came over and said in the future we would not be able to do that. It was really surprising, in this day of so much more autism awareness, that they were not open to a tiny request that would make their establishment more accommodating to a kid with disabilities.
Bartender was fun and friendly he made my night. Will be coming back
This place is awesome. $10 bucks to get in and all the unlimited free games you want! drinks arent too pricey; nowhere near Newport prices. Theres a club/bar/dancing area upstairs on the weekends too, so its a two in one type vibe.
Had not been to this place until recently and I certainly feel like I have missed out. This barcade is an insanely cool place, lots of fun arcade games, several you have never heard of, many you have. the alcohol is good, and on Friday and Saturday nights you have the dance floor upstairs.one critique I have is the dance floor is polished tile, which means the second someone spills a drink, dancing becomes more like trying to balance an ice cube on a bowling ball, Im not sure I have been on a more slippery floor before. I fell down twice.also to no fault of the venue, the parking is tough
10$ cover to get in and all the games are free to play! They have plenty of games to play and its very clean. The bar has some interesting(and potent) drinks as well as pizza! Highly recommended for a great night out.
Some games don’t work and proper signage indicating that, would be great! Other than that, great drink selection, still a lot of games, popular spot, and there’s food. Parking could be better… I had to pay $20-$30…. Which is insane.. for this reason, I rarely go.
I really liked this place; great selection of games, cheap (and good) pizza, a variety of beer on tap and bottled/canned, and a fun selection of cocktails. The place fills up on Saturday nights - be careful of those uneven stages, they are just waiting to jump out and get you.
This is a great fun place with many arcade games, most in good working shape. Theres so many great classics, its awesome. They have bar pizza if your hungry and a decent selection to drink from. The drinks are where they make their money, so expect average to above average drink prices because the fun is basically free after paying a cheap cover charge.
Great place and no its not like Dave & Busters. Its a 90s arcade with a bar. You pay a cover and all the games are free play. They have a solid booze selection and great beers on tap, I think they sell pizza too, but the reason I come here is all in the first two sentences. Lots of date night happening on the Friday we were there celebrating my nephews birthday. Its a great time and I would do it again.
Hours of fun for only $10! So many games and a bar with a decent beer selection and reasonably priced drinks. They allow re-entry before 9 too so you can play for an hour or two, take a break to grab a bite to eat, and then play some more or dance the night away at one of their themed dance parties. This past Saturday was 80s/90s.
10 stars, hands down... talk about nostalgia in 1 place....from video games all free by the way with a 1 time entry fee...on fridays/Saturdays, its $12 and seriously the price for drinks in downtown is excellent and the dj upstairs was amazing
Great atmosphere at this arcade bar! So many games to choose from that even on a busy Friday night you didnt have to wait to play. Its a steal that for just a $10 cover you have access to free play all of the games, as well as access to the club upstairs if you decide you need a dance break! The beer selection is great and constantly changing. Ill definitely be back with more friends!
This is the place that arcades should strive to be. If you love the arcade, the real arcade, not the rip-off casino-in-training that every other arcade has become in such a short time, then this is the place for you.Wide variety of machines. All of them are well kept. Small cover for unlimited play, and great prices on food and drink. Whoever came up with this place loves what they are doing, and they deserve to succeed.Keep it up free play. You are my new home away from home.
We had a lot of fun playing the pinball machines.
This is literally the BEST place in Providence! Your admission gets you free games the whole night, drinks are well priced and the staff is amazing. Plus, the Retro Dance Lounge on Fridays and Saturdays is the best club vibe around. Great people, upbeat music and security that keeps the guests worry free. The DJ only plays the best hits from the 80s, 90s and early 2K... And there is nothing better than watching an entire dancefloor suddenly jam out to Journey or see that everyone still remembers the dances to NSYNC 😂
Very crowded but a great and pleasant atmosphere. Brought back a lot of old memories for me and Im sure a lot of other people too! Decent prices for drinks, lots of games so be patient for your turn!
I had a lot of fun down there. Drinks arent too expensive, and if you like old school arcade games, a lot of the classics are here. My only gripe is that some of the machines dont work 100%, but a lot of them are 25-30 years old, so some wear is expected. Great place, though, and Ill be going back!
