Stopped in on NYE for drinks. Of course the place was hopping and the holiday decorations were over the top. #1 is always a fun place to go for a cocktail.

I have been coming to this place over 10 years and it was so strange that this bar tender named Neil he was so rude to me and my friends we spent a lot of money at this place , his attitude has become rude and unacceptable and we dont feel comfortable coming over to this place if the management or the company can take action over his attitude or behavior it will be lovely. So we can come back to this place. Thank you we appreciate you.

Smaller bar but with a great neighborhood feel and diverse crowd. Easy place to meet friendly people as a visitor to the city.

Just want to share an experience from Sunday, 6/3 at 3 pm…I was spoken to in a very rude manner from the bartender Neil! I have been a patron for over 20+ years…Neil proceeded to tell me that he would not serve me because according to Neil, I don’t like him…He then said you are an Ahole! You are always an Ahole to me…I have been a supporter of all the bars & restaurants in the neighborhood & often recommend #1, but at this point I will no longer be a patron or recommend anyone to your establishment!!My best regards!

The staff is friendly and it is a great location.Shout out to the new manager Tom. I saw his leadership in action during Pride and was impressed.

This place is harvesting all the data off of your license barcode, they scan it really quickly and stores it who knows where and how long.RESPONSE: Keeping your customers safe requires that you collect and store information about people and blacklist people you dont approve of. By definition if you are using software to do this you are sharing with a 3rd party that your guests did not consent to. If it was about drinking age, you would just check the ID.I believe under CA law, you must have a notice at the point of data collection about the purposes/usage of the data and how you handle it. You have no such notice.

The security SUCKS. They kicked me out for bumping into people on a night where we were nuts to butts in there, after I asked security why I couldnt be served anymore. (I only had 4 drinks in 6 hours) Its like the security has nothing to do.The service by the bartenders is great.

This Bar is a neighborhood institution! Good amount of space, welcoming to all!!! They do have a patio space in back and offer live entertainment. On this visit had the best quality fun listening to Ria and Aaron sing tunes from an ENORMOUS request list!! Fun, fun, fun!

The new owners are very nice and you can tell they want to improve the quality of the place. Great DJ and a fun drag show on Fridays. Affordable drinks too. The backyard is the best part. I would suggest they get rid of the carpet inside though.

Number One is definitely one of my top three favorite bars in Hillcrest! The bartenders are very nice and friendly, the music is great, and the tight mix of locals/tourists gives it a very unique vibe compared to some of the other bars in the neighborhood. I personally like the weekend crowds, but I wouldnt be opposed to going on a weeknight for a special event or just to socialize with friends. Highly recommend!

Came on a Sunday evening from out of town for a Sunday/funday before returning home. Great space/vibe. Staff and clientele were very friendly.

Best gay bar in San Diego! I had so much fun here, staff is so friendly and welcoming. Such a safe space for the community! Fantastic music and there are always drag shows with incredible performances! I loved every minute spent in here!! Definitely the place to be!! :)

Way too loud. If the bartender cant hear drink orders, you need to turn down the music. Also get rid of the dirty smelly carpet. Gross

If your thinking about coming here rail is right across the street and better, the poor was very weak and the staff was not nice, the security lady at the front was the only kind person we meet. We saw this place as ranked number 1 in San Diego on a list and we were very disappointed, easily the worst place we saw this night.

Love this place. Since 2018 its been my (first) go-to neighborhood bar. Great atmosphere, great staff, inexpensive, strong drinks, nice diverse crowd. Holiday decorations arent what they were when Marc bartended there, but they still make an effort, and the new owners made some much-needed and overdue improvements - especially to the bathrooms. They were awful, and are now really pretty nice. Ive met some great people here, too!

I love this bar. Such a great, friendly environment. Staff are fab work prompt service and the music is great to have a good dance to. I cannot wait to see the expansion- always a good night out

Its cute. The drinks were cheap and decent, considering. Im new to San Diego and I can see myself frequenting here. Was it the best bar ever? Hardly. Was it a cute local bar where everyone seemed to know each other and was overly friendly? Yes.

Ive been to San Diego twice and visited this bar on each occasion, what a great atmosphere. I loved the shows. The staff are very friendly. I cant wait to visit again.

I went there on a Monday with my class and I got 1 beer in my tab. I paid it and it was 6.50 plus 2$ tip. Few days later I check and my card was also charged 14.47$ for something I didn’t buy. Now I had a few friends that bought me drinks but they paid for them on their tab. Did the bartender charge me for this drinks too?? I’m so confused as to why I got charged that extra 14$. I’m trying to call and call but no one answers the phone. I just want my money back.Update* I got my money back and all is good. They were very sensible about the whole situation. This is now our go to spot for a drink after class.

#1 is the go to place when you want good strong drinks with some chili guys. The drag shows are nice. I hope theyre able to expand the size of the bar to accommodate more people and events.

This has been our home bar for about 3 years now and the owners just changed hands and prices went up about a buck a drink but still affordable!Dont get tipsy or drunk here now days because Sam, one of the door guards, will 86 you for a period of time of his choosing. 4 month apparently for me.Very disappointing in the direction of what was once a great local establishment.Go to Gossip or Urban Mos. The Hole in the Wall is a great option as well.

Great atmosphere! Relaxed and welcoming. Love the vintage interior and the outside terrace is perfect for chilled drinks or a dance when the DJs are on or it’s busier 👍🏼

By far my favorite bar, and favorite gay bar in San Diego. They are very welcoming, and the patrons are generally non pretentious. There is an excellent back patio that allows smoking and is great for mingling, playing pool, and darts. The inside seating is quaint, cozy, and usually accessible. Thank you for being awesome!

Wowww where do I began? I USED to love this place for the vibes music and people but the racism here is obvious I feel. I was thrown out this past weekend for doing nothing and minding my business and didn’t even give me an explanation on why I was being kicked out. Disgusting. Never coming back to this 🗑️ establishment!

I love the vibe in this bar. Andrew and Jess are the sweetest bartenders in the world and the prices are great. I’ve never not had a great time going there. Highly recommend!

Happened to go during the week and met some wonderful, friendly, and hospitable locals. Clearly a the place to meet both new and old friends. Bartender never stopped smiling. Monday is leauge night if you want to play pool!

A great place to swing by for cheap and sturdy drinks. Back patio is fun with large screen for videos, and some nights have live music. Can be a bit smoky outside but always a good time in general.

The drinks here are fantastic! Not the cheapest, but for the gayborhood, their drinks are some of the best.

Went to last Saturday nights Drag Show. Supporting my friend KRYSTAL DETAIL killed it. I also enjoyed the other performances . Great place to hangout come out and support our Queens 💙💙💙

This was such a fun gay bar. The music was great, the bartenders were extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and the crowd was fun. This was a perfect Friday night party.

Call me Karen, but one can not enter this establishment without a mask and you can take it off right after entering. Perhaps they could hand you a mask for a $20 drink. So we were not allowed into the bar and I wasnt happy. I hate this kind of stupidity.

A nice place to have an after-work drink. The $16 cocktail was a bit much though. We’ll come back but just for a beer next time.

Upscale dive bar, fitting for the neighborhood and has been; there forever.. There is no type of patron, but a mix that always works. There are various nights such as karaoke, Pictionary to keep the evening interesting.

Tj was great tonight. I have noticed some changes within the past few months and morale seems to be lower than usual. Ive seen some changes and not happy about it but tj made the experience great! Ill always come back with this current staff!

I dont really understand it. The place is far from full yet theres a line out the door. I dont know what kind of suckers live in San Diego but if I werent meeting friends, Id never come to a place like this on my own.

Number One is usually a second stop, after Mos, but has been doing a great job of attracting a crowd with different events and fantastic prices on drinks. Ecclectic, fun, inviting, number one is always a fun time.

I was there for a Sunday when it wasnt too busy and the bartender was actually social and very nice. Im a big fan of a stiff drink and boy do they serve em. I actually feel like Im getting what I pay for

Visited a buddy in town, and went here with a group of his friends. The atmosphere was a blast, the crowds were fun, and the drinks were cheap. Three for three! Highly recommend.

Old short doorman is hateful first impression, bathrooms stink & worse than a porta potty, bartenders & management match the bathrooms. Go to Urban Mos, InsideOut or Fliks for some sense of class.
