San Diego Eagle

I recently visited the San Diego Eagle with a group of friends and had an extremely disappointing experience. Despite the bars reputation for being a welcoming space, we were asked to leave simply because a few of us didnt immediately buy a drink. This treatment felt unfair and unwelcoming, especially since we were planning to stay and enjoy the evening.The bar seems to cater primarily to an older crowd, and it became evident that younger patrons are not as welcome. The atmosphere, which could have been inclusive and friendly, was instead marred by this unpleasant encounter. I would not recommend the San Diego Eagle to anyone looking for a genuinely hospitable and inclusive experience. There are plenty of other places in San Diego that are far more welcoming and accommodating.

A mere shell of the namesake. Old and bitter bartenders who ask you to turn your phone down. Like honestly in all reality if you come on the right night it can be ok but otherwise, all they are doing, is trying to uphold a weird structure of power with these 60-70 year old bartenders ( I’m not ageist they just suck) attempting to keep things in an order and air of familiarity they like. 🤢 I didn’t have a good time and it’s NOTHING like the eagle in NYC

Came to San Diego with my boyfriend and 2 out-of-town friends to give them the California experience.Was very ashamed and disappointed that after being a patron of this establishment for years, we were rejected bc the couple we invited to join us was rejected for not purchasing drinks. “California law prohibits us from accepting patrons who do not purchase drinks. You just leave,” said the bartender. He poured out our drinks and demanded our exit.Very disappointing. Would not recommend. Based on the vibe, it appeared they only accepted older, more masculine (straight-presenting) patrons. Shameful sight for our community imho.

Went to this place with a group of 4. We entered and tried to order drinks for me and my boyfriend but my other friends were sober and the bartender told us according to California law everyone at the bar has to have a drink. In an condescending tone then he dumped our drink and we left. When my partner and I visited this bar last year we had no issues with a younger bartender, the older bartenders on the night of 5/22/ morning of 5/23 seems to be trying to keep appearances or cater to a crowd that we apparently didnt fit.

I’ve been to many bars and in Europe and to other Eagles , The events they have are great and a good turn out. So coming on a regular night it’s gonna be chill most the time. I’ve gotten great service not disappointed at all because I give the staff a lot of appreciation. Great public transit as well 2.50 with free 2 hr transfer.

I have been going to the Eagle off and on since 1997. I like the type of bar patrons there. I like especially that it is not a Hillcrest bar. The Eagle is a mans bar serving basic drinks, not fruity umbrella drinks. A majority of the staff is accommodating, attentive and welcoming. We are not usually bothered by negative residents from the high-priced condos nearby.

Moved here from out of state. Was very excited to find a gay bar with a familiar name and atmosphere to my home bar.Got great service from Steven, the doorman on my first visit and bartender on my second visit. Unfortunately, the owner demanded that I provide service papers for my k9, which is not a real thing that exists for service dogs and is a violation of HIPAA and ADA.Not sure if Ill be coming back, which is unfortunate because there arent many places for gay leather folk to really be themselves, so I was looking forward to becoming a regular customer.ETA: I did tell the owner that Service papers arent a real thing. That doesnt exist. His response was to keep asking me for it, then asked Steven the bartender if he has verified [my] service papers for the dog. Very unprofessional and as a business owner he should educated himself on the laws regarding animals and service animals in his establishment.

The staff is always great when I go, but unfortunately if its not an underwear contest night this bar is ALWAYS EMPTY if you dont get many weekends off like myself this isnt wear you should spend the 1 weekend night you finally have off bc it will be you and a bartender pretending not to stare at one another

If you’re trans, avoid the place. This space is for cis gay men only. The bartender made that very clear. Been to many other Eagles in other cities, this is the only one I’ve been shooed away by bartenders because someone in my party is trans. Learn how to serve the entire LGBT community or don’t serve us at all.

HIGHLY recommend this place. I went there the other night and met this adorable man named Dennis.We had a nice time together and the drinks are also reasonably priced. The music wasnt to my liking bit Im an old man so I dont expect to keep up with the kids.Jimmy at the bar was super cool and a pleasure to talk to also! Dennis was better though.If youre ever in the area definitely pop in for a looksie

All the neighbors locally dislike this place and the people who stand outside and drunkenly yell/fight/etc until odd hours of the morning every night. I was just watching someone get into a loud physical altercation there last night at 11 pm on a Tuesday night who then proceeded to whip out a taser and run away. When you ask them to be quiet, they yell profanities at you. I understand this is a neighborhood staple, but being respectful of those who arent awake at 3 am on a Sunday night would be nice.

Bar tenders there were P ***es Of S ***I just walked in and wanted to order my first beer sat where the bartender was and he told me to get away. Went to the Only other open spot at the bar and that bartender told me to get away too.So I had to stand away from the bar cause its crowded and couldnt order. Then I saw a couple guys go to the spot I was just at and they were able to order just fine. So i just left and went somewhere else. Dont know what I did to deserve that but never going here again.

The bartenders there are super cool. The drinks are cheap in price but good. The con is its patrons. There are dudes blowing each other in the restroom. Also the two times ive been there l, the bartender had to yell at two dudes to stop blowing each other in front of everyone. You’ll definitely catch more than just covid at the eagle in San Diego. The eagle in Portland seems tame conpared to SD.

I was staying in San Diego for my birthday and decided to pop in for drinks. Tom the bartender was a blast! Super friendly, talkative and interesting. Other patrons were really social and chatty too. Made this out of towner feel welcomed and right at home! I think I made some new friends for next time Im in town. Thanks yall! You really made my birthday a blast.

Came here last night the old dude with a hat who was a bartender was very rude and cocky for no reason even after I gave a good tip horrible service from him and kept giving me dirty looks all night made me super uncomfortable I wouldn’t go back here again just because of him and he charged me 10 dollars for a plain sprite

Always Fun. Always something to see. Not an S&M (Stand & Model) bar. The people that come here dont have any hang ups about anything. Ive been hanging at this place for 15+ years. Its okay to say hello to people here with out getting shade. Everyones always friendly. Drinks are affordable. Great place to get away to when you want to escape all the other usual mundane night life.

Had a great time stopping by today. It was a bit slower being a monday night, but that worked in our favor. Josh was a fantastic bartender and made two outowners feel welcome, hats off to the bar, will be back on our next visit.

Really fun Bar in North Park, San Diego

This place is the best! Not for Women (unless they are leather/fetish/kink) no wimps either! Only if you can handle a REAL leather bar , should you come inside. This place has a great croud of regulars, and the best staff there is. Please -- if you cant handle tge Eagle, then DONT GO INSIDE. Not for the faint of heart. Not for wussies.

Its an alright place. There are definitely better Eagles in other cities, but its ours. Could be little bigger. Its hard to draw intl events with no space to hold them. The bartenders are certainly friendlier than the butch queen at Richs.

This place is home. I have met many wonderful men that work here, and come here just to be around other great men and bond with each other. No other bars or even clubs give you that warm and fuzzy feeling of home away from home.

This place smells of urine and despair. Nights such as Wolfs Revisited Backroom Night are to be avoided unless you want to be involved in a police bust. The equipment is broken, a/c rarely is on, people have sex in the bar, and have piss parties. This is a very unsanitary place and is probably one call away from being shut down.

LOVE this place!Laid back clients, good service at fair prices. My favorite dive bar in San Diego!

I love coming to the bar when David is there. Hes funny and really cares about making sure you have a good time.

I have been coming here for years, I love coming here because I knoe a lot of the guys who come here and they know me. Happy to call this place my home bar!

Small bar can be very dead. But when its good, its good. Friday or Saturday nights are best.

I went home with a guy from here, but at his place he changed into a green full body suit and started screaming at his computer.

Nice friendly bar mostly for Bears like other Eagles.
