Even though this place has generally bad reviews, But, I wanted to try it myself. We sat outside. Although other places were very crowded, this place was very calm. We later understood the reason for this. I can say that everything was even below standard. BBQ sauce was too heavy. It tasted better without the sauce. The service wasnt bad. But, He just asked if he could bring the bill after the meal was over. In hospitality, when asked about this guest, it is understood to simply say go. Its not necessary. Its not crowded anyway. We are already up.
A nice little gem in the gaslamp area. Went later in the evening and it was quiet compared to all the other places in the surrounding areaThe burger I got was called the duke and so good! Filled with pulled pork alongside a beef patty and everything was seasoned well and flavourful. The bbq sauce for the pulled pork went so nicely on the burger and soaked into the bun nicelyFor it with a side of onion rings and the rings were so nice and crispy! The vibe of the place was like a saloon which was pretty cool. Loved the whole them of the place and it’s not a bright spot, but really went well with the whole mood of the eveningService was great. Super quick and quick with the drinks and food tooGreat job overall
Looking for lunch places that are easy breezy during San Diego Comic Con? Found this place today! It’s great; we ordered a pull pork sandwich and a bbq cheese burger with a side of fries, plus two Arnold Palmers (half lemonade, half iced tea)! While it was “crowded” there was enough movement for us to find a place to sit rather quickly (went around 1:30ish), and the staff was friendly and patient from start to finish. Definitely a future option for us thru the next Comic Cons!
Good food with good atmosphere! Both indoor and outdoor seating available. I had the Gaslamp Burger which was tasty and had plenty of bbq sauce. Fries could have had more flavor considering the price paid. Pop tasted somewhat watered down with not enough syrup. A little loud when the bar had patrons but otherwise very comfortable.
So expensive, but honestly just about everything in San Diego is super pricey for travelers - so in regards to portion size and quality, Id give it a 9/10 and 8.5/10, respectively. Our server was a solid gent, and the food came out piping hot fairly quickly. Id be hard pressed to say any BBQ in Cali can compete with other regions of the country, but Id be lying if I said I wasnt delighted and satisfied with my time here. I wont say when Id come back here because there are just many options in Gaslamp, but it was spectacular for what I wanted at the very moment I was there, so 5/5 overall
Visited San Diego from Vegas and I must say I think this place is a bit overpriced for the quality of the food. We ordered mozzarella sticks to start off with and was surprised at how small they were for $15!! . The bacon cheeseburger was a bit dry, shrimp skewers with potato salad were ok but not worth $30. Pulled pork Sliders are also just ok, but not worth $15 for 2. Server was nice and gave my dogs water, appreciated that part but other than that, I don’t think I will recommend this place.
The staff is friendly and always taking care. The food was good. Affordable prices. You should try the cheese fries or the natchos. Good selection of beers and cocktails. The location is good. We were outside and still got some sun.Again here having different burgers. Still attentive staff and burgers are very good!
Seat yourself and order from the counter. Fastest service I have ever had. Juicy pulled pork was delicious… you can’t go wrong with this option. The fries required a bit of salt and catchup but were otherwise okay. The prices are STEEP(high) and do not reflect the quality of the food; I would expect better for these prices. I would eat here again if I needed a quick bite and money were not an issue. Nice and clean bathrooms.
Service was good! Went in to watch a few games and right away we were taken care of. Ordered the chicken nachos, bbq beef ribs, and chili fries with chicken. Nachos were with the cheese sauce but there was a generous amount along with sour cream. Did have to cut up some of the chicken chunks, also good portion. Beef ribs were fall off the bone. Did not try the chili but the fries were nice and crispy.
So many choices around that area but we decided to try this one. Well it was worth every damn penny we paid there. Food was amazing and one of the few places Id have a smoked meat but I wasnt disappointed at all. Friendly staff and kept checking on us even though the place was full. We had few drinks in addition to the meals and it was a well spent afternoon. I cant wait to go back and try more things from their menu.Update:Went there on Saturday and yes downtown was crazy because of comic-con. Place was super packed but staff got us a table in less than 5 mins. Since it was packed and comic-con, I really expected service to be slow but I was wrong. We got our order in 10 mins and OMG the food was amazing. We ordered ribs (they recommended it to us) and a pulled pork sandwich. Sandwich was overloaded with pulled pork and BBQ sauce was delicious. I had to share some of the pulled pork to be able to eat the sandwich. Pulled pork was so moist and buns were soft.Ribs were perfectly cooked and they were falling off the bones, you it was cooked properly when you can pull the bone with nothing left on it. BBQ was so good and tasty that we had to order extra sauce on the side.
Came after a Padres game as we wanted some wings and heard it was good BBQ. Sat down outside and there was vomit on one of the tables (not their fault I am sure, but it was not fresh vomit either...). We sat down on the opposite end at a different table. It seemed like we were an inconvenience to them. Took our drink orders and then we ordered some appetizers (wings). They were ok (tasted like Costco wings with generic sauce), but still hit the spot. They never came or asked for our main order (menus sat in front of us for 15-20 minutes). No refills on water or other drinks. Other people after us were served and got their main course. We decided to go somewhere else. Maybe just caught them at an off time.
Great place for beer and BBQ. I had the gaslamp rib burger and onion rings with an Octoberfest. It was a good combo. I ended up adding the onion rings to the burger and adding more BBQ sauce. I highly recommend. I would give five stars except there was a small bone in the burger. It didnt take any from the meal to me tho. Service was fast and easy I just ordered at the bar. I went in the evening and it wasnt too crowded and was super relaxed.
Not a fan. We wanted a nice patio outside, we got that. We wanted to share some apps for lunch, after trying the chicken nachos and onion rings, I wasnt about to give more money for food I can make better at home. Onion rings were burnt, chips stale cheap nasty cheese, processed chicken, no way would I have the BBQ here they cant get the easy stuff right..our server/Hostess didnt know much about the city or the food. I wont go back.
The pulled pork was okay, a little overly wet, not what I would call moist. The chicken Caesar salad was very good. The service is fast, and the staff are friendly. The location is convenient if youre already in the area, but it can be challenging to get there for parking and accessibility. I dont know if Ill go back, but it was worth going once.
Awesome food and even better service! We stopped here just wanting something a bit more “down to earth” and comfortable and we got it! The prices are highly competitive based on the amount of food you get. Definitely the best BBQ in town, plus the service was great. Despite them being very busy they still made their rounds in a timely manner. Seriously, Gaslamp BBQ was so good we had to come back for a second taste and I’m glad we did. I’ll be sure to stop by whenever I’m in the San Diego area.
We had to be responsible adults and go to the bank, this place was within sight of the bank so we thought wed try it. It was that odd hour halfway between dinner and lunch (we like to call it linner), there was one person at the bar that was gone by the time we finished lunch The waitress was nice, the place was clean and casual (arent most BBQ places casual?). We both ordered the Pulled Pork Platter. It was pretty darned good! I used lots of extra sauce, the hubs decided he didnt need it - but added a bit more at the end of his meal. He enjoyed the meal so much he didnt add hot sauce (which is a good tell for him). We frequent SD, its usually our vacay spot, so we will definitely go again. Thanks for reading my review!
I frequent here at least once a week! This place is awesome. Their rib burger is my favorite. Yes I put a pic up! Ive had their pulled pork sliders, nachos, the chili cheese fries, and much more. I could talk all day about it but you need to experience this place for yourself. Staff is very friendly. Its a seat yourself place and they are attentive to you. I highly recommend because ITS THE BEST BBQ IN DOWNTOWN. Yes the best i mean that other famous place cause it was in a movie doesnt even compare. Gaslamp BBQs foos is flavorful and unique. Its not your usual BBQ place. Their beer selection is on point too!
The Gas lamp BBQ seems to be this under appreciated restaurant/bar located in the heart of the San Diegos Gaslamp district. It serves some decent food and provides affordable drinks with a good atmosphere. Each time Ive passed here during my run of the Gaslamp, it tends to be pretty slow. Great for me because you get fast service! When I came here last, I had the their delicious pulled pork sandwich.
Last time i was here was when the pandemic was just beginning and was not really satisfied but was walking around gaslamp looking for a place for lunch came across restaurant and decided to give another try and was very pleased food was very good good portions i ordered pulled pork sandwich fries and 8wings to take home but did not get wings untill after i paid my check which i found weird cause no other restaurant did that to me and i have eaten at a few in gaslamp but im still giving 5 stars cause everything else was top notch
Omg. I have missed smoked bbq. I wasn’t sure of what to expect because of the dive bar feel in a town where atmosphere is everything but bbq sounded good and drew me in.Let me just say-I died. It was so so good. I tried the ribs and pulled pork combo. I normally don’t care for pulled pork but even that blew my mind.I came here to google just to figure out where I ate so I can go back.
We we’re happily surprised at how good their food was because we just needed something quick to eat on a whim. Try their tortilla soup, they actually make it authentic Mexican style in tomatillo soup. That one bowl breathed new life into me. We also split a small rack of ribs and I’d put those up against any south-side of Chicago rib joint any time. Delicious indeed.
I had the brisket and it was really good. Big portion and it was not dry. A couple TVs and opened up to the street, pretty nice.
Split a spare RIB sandwich w the kid, definitely recommend, it was delicious & hit the spot! Coleslaw is rather boring & seemed too fresh, Coleslaws gotta marinate & soften a little, this was like dressing was thrown over a cabage mix right outta the fridge & served, do not recommend.Seems pretty popping on weekends, dead on weekdays. They are in a pinch when it comes to staffing (as of the end of July 2021) is what I gathered as I returned a day or two later to chill on the patio & drink some beers.Good for people watching out on the patio. Both times service was pretty good considering there is a staff shortage.Only went inside to use the restrooms, which were clean & well maintained. Barkeep supervised my beer while I was away & that made me feel safe.Bar area seemed nice & tidy as well. This was all during off hours.I recommend if youre not in a hurry & want some yummy BBQ & beer.If you enjoyed this review or found it helpful, PLEASE, give it a LIKE! 👍
Pulled pork was delicious and moist. Sauce was good, service friendly. Price is reasonable for the area.
Good place for a quick lunch. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and the bartender was the only waitress as well. 1 person for about 5 tables and she handled it perfectly. Food came out fast and good. Chicken nachos, ribs and pulled pork sandwich. My favorite was the ribs, must try! The best part is that they are pet friendly!
Place is overpriced and food isn’t all that good. Had a drink and ordered food to go and I shouldn’t have. Definitely not welcoming for a person that looks like me. On top of that, charged me all that money just to get my order wrong! Skip this place, you’re not missing anything. Never going there again, wish I checked order before I left.
I ordered pulled pork. It was Kahlua style pork with BBQ sauce on it and was nasty.
We have tried twice to eat at this restaurant but we were turned off both times. The first time an employee was standing in the doorway smoking a cigarette, which is disgusting and illegal (he was not the required 15 ft from the entrance). The second time, tonight, a customer inside at their table was vaping, which also is illegal. We probably won’t try again.
The location, service, and friendliness were fine. However, with all the choices in the downtown area, this one is NOT worth the stop. The chicken nachos were ok except that the chicken should have been shredded. The size of chicken chunks was so big they would roll off the chips or just be too big to eat on a chip alone. Now, the $20 burger was really the reason for this review. A frozen patty warmed up with a small amount of pulled pork. Absolutely no flavor except for a BBQ sauce. Tomato was cold and crunchy. The whole thing was terrible, and I would not recommend this as a place to eat.
Great place to eat BBQ, I had the Gaslamp rib burger with fries and was very delicious.
I think i made the mistake of ordering ribs for lunch. They were flavorful, but they needed to cook longer. I also dont like the hidden charges for whatever reason, just price the food appropriately.
Went here prior to a Padres game for lunch. The place had almost no crowd (it was a Monday afternoon, 1:30pm). Food was good. We had a pulled pork sandwich, brisket sandwich and a burger. Seemed a bit over priced, but considering it is in the Gas lamp I guess it was normal.
Listen Listen, my father was a pit master and YOU CAN NOT RE-HEAT PORK IN A MICROWAVE!!! Thats what the Duke sandwich was. I paid for smoked BBQ and I got oven baked Re-heated pork. The fries where good though. Sorry Gaslamp. You gotta do better.
Food was good for the price, but nothing spectacular. Also had a very small beer selection.
Great little bbq spot. Loved the wings and rib sandwhich.
Very laid back, all of the staff are very nice and helpful. Great selection of BBQ foods and drinks. Been here 2 times so far, and anticipate more visits. Great prices and comfortable atmosphere.
It’s all right but doesn’t attract any local residents.
Pretty solid. I quite liked the pulled pork and tri tip. Latter was a tad too peppery, but delicious nonetheless. Baked beans were a solid B, B+. Slightly watery.Their bar is Very well stocked, though it was a little early for me.
Overall it was good, but very expensive for a small amount of food.
Came here from out of the US and all I wanted was BBQ and just happened to stumble across this place right around the corner from my hotel. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Sam and Priscilla. Both of them so friendly and great recommendation for the beer. Food was awesome! Hot and tasty! I had the pulled pork sandwich with fries and coleslaw. Absolutely delicious! I will definitely go back before I go home! AWESOME!!
Bartender was cool! Gave us info about the city, things to do, and made some good drinks. Kitchen didnt help how great the front of the restaurant was doing. Cold cheese on my nachos, cold pulled pork. Had to send it back 3 times before it came back hot and flavorless. Unfortunately I would not go back.
I was on a trip to San Diego with my father as my best friend was getting married and I was the maid of honor. We had one free day and decided to check Gaslamp Quarter for dinner where we found this place nearby. The food is a bit pricey, but well worth it. The atmosphere is stellar, the staff were friendly and charismatic. The food was some of the best we have had on this trip. The Mozzarella Sticks have some serious breading. Tasty and gooey! I ordered a ribeye steak and it was delicious. The fries are great too. They even have free wifi!!Would recommend to any vacationer who doesnt mind spending a bit more. Its well worth it for those looking for a cozy experience without the hassle more famous spots can bring.
Not very tender. Tried tip and not very flavourful, no smokey taste.
Just average. They serve tri-tip instead of brisket. It was a decent sando, the chicken nachos was tasty but some parts seemed under cooked but over all the meal was good. Plenty of seating, staff was friendly and attentive. I ate on the patio. Theres a small bar inside as well with a variety of drinks.
The food and service was great. The prices are reasonable too.
Great place to grab a cheap Brew and shots
Oof - I’m here for Comic-Con so I’m *sure* their food is not up to its normal quality. I paid easily 2x or 3x the normal price for a sopping wet tri-tip sandwich that was definitely, in no way smoked. Not even liquid smoke lol. And I found a beard hair in my fries. There was no amount of bbq sauce that could give that sandwich flavor. Heads up for anyone in town for a big event, this ain’t the place to go for enjoyable food. It is technically food, though. So there’s that.
This place was great! We stopped in and I got the beef ribs and my buddy got the pic 3 with the pork ribs, chicken, and pulled pork (I think) and everything was great. The coleslaw wasnt too messy and was a good side to all of that.Theyve got an interesting selection of drinks also. The prices were good, the place was clean, the food was great so well be back whenever were in the area.
I walked in at whim, looking for REAL BBQ, thanks to Google. Im glad I did. Absolutely, loved it!! Adam was the first who greeted me as I walked in, i sat at the bar. He made some suggestions on the BBQ beef ribs, Im so glad I did. They were so well cooked, I didnt have to eat holding the ribs, they just fell off from the bone itself!! The meat itself was peeling off, I ate the WHOLE THING‼️Adam at the bar was the host who made me feel at home. I even had a 🍺 beer, havent had one in soon long, nice and cold. Adam set the atmosphere and the tone talking g with everyone in GASLAMP BBQ. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves BBQ.
Not sure why this has a decent rating. Service was good, place looks like a good watering hole so that may be the reason. I gave 3 stars because of the food. I ordered the John Wayne 2 meat plate, tri tip and pulled pork. The trip tip was cut so thin it looked like Sandwich meat and it tasted like it was cooked in a microwave. My heart sank when I saw the tri tip. The pulled pork wasnt bad but it did taste bland, the plate was waterey , not juicy. Im sending Gordon Ramsey vibes to this place. Waitress/bartender was great and I left a tip for her. I can see a better rating if they change up their cooking method.
BBQ. Rib. Sandwich. Three simple words but OMG what they do not tell you about the heaven on a bun that arrived at my table! Bold yet slightly sweet sauce, tender and perfectly done rib mean (like the flap on the back of a good set of St. Louis ribs,) ripe tomato and lettuce. Pure heaven. Wifes burger looked very good too, but my attention was fully focused on my own food. People seemed to be clamoring to eat outside when inside was nearly empty. Service was good too. Prices were a couple of dollars less than all of the big fancy places a couple of streets over and well worth the walk.
Ive only been here during Comic Con. It is yummy, but portions are a bit smaller than other bbq places. However, that is to be expected in the gaslamp and especially during a big event like comic con. I have come here a few times only because it isnt too far off from the convention center, people watching is great and food is actually yum!
We came here while in town for Comic Con. The wait was short and the food was delicious. Not sure if the cost was reflective due to to the convention happening in town but I honestly wouldve paid it again because it was good. The staff was nice and patient even with all the craziness. We recommend the restaurant to those who were looking for a place to while in town as well. Definitely coming back next year.
We did not wait that long that is a good thing. One server was helpful. The one with short hair,I did not got her name. I should have had her than the other lady. She served the plate but just dump it on our table. And my knife was smeared with potato salad that by the time I pick up my knife I got potatoes on my finger. No fork serve and table napkins serve. I have to ask. For a price like that service should at least be better. I ordered a baby back rib but instead I think I got beef rib. Should it be a baby back rib be pork? I could be wrong.
This place had very good service. But ither than that it was lacking. The pulled pork was horrible, the ribs were pretty good though. But that pulled pork sandwich was unforgivable.
The food was good but the service was above and beyond. I ordered The fajitas but did not realize they did not come with tortillas. I asked for a possible side of tortillas and was told they didn’t have any. But in a matter of a few minutes I was brought out three corn tortillas and I was happy as can be. When A business goes out of their way to make sure the customer is happy like they did how could it be anything but five stars!
Great food. Prices were reasonable. Staff were very nice. We were in SD for 2 nights and ate hear the first night. After walking around the Gas Lamp area we could not find a place that we liked at a decent price so came back for the second night. Did not regret it.
Shrimp scampi tasted like thawed no flavor. Ribs were awful too soft you ate with fork and they come poured sauce on top tasted store bought. Rolles were grilled hamburger bun. But server was very nice
Super nice food, friendly staff, nice atmosphereTry the rips, they were amazing!
Food was good for the price.Cons: Mac&Cheese was gross tasted like it was made with nacho cheese from a ball park.Slaw lacked flavor, need seasoning.Pros: Ribs were perfect.Potato salad was excellent.
I honestly had the worse experience ever! It took them 15 to 20 min for the server to stop by my table. I asked what was the issue she said “too many new people” are you kidding me? That shouldn’t be the customer issue… Anyways, I waited another 30 to 40 min to get my food and it was so cold.. the girls attitudes it’s the worse.. seems like no one really wants to be working there..
I had a late lunch 2 pulled pork sliders wirh yummy coleslaw and a glass of wine. Perfect size. It was very quiet customer wise so good service. Good music.
Great food and fairly priced meal in the Gaslamp District. Friendly staff came here 3 times on our visit.
I had the most delicious lemon martini and appetizers here. The staff is so kind and friendly and a it’s great place right in downtown. Will definitely come back next time I’m in town!
This is probably closer to a 3.5 rating because of the service. We ordered the bbq wings, baked beans, and ribs with coleslaw. The food was meh. The baked beans looked and tasted like they were out of the can. The coleslaw lacked flavor. The wings and ribs lacked flavor as well. I guess San Diego is not known for its barbecue. Our server, Legend, was great. He did an excellent job all the way around.
Stop in for lunch yesterday and really enjoyed it. Ordered the bbq chicken cesar salad and chefs choice salad and both were delicious. Good portion size and the bbq sauce was really good. The service was very friendly and the drinks were great as well!
Portions were small. Service was great. We were seated right away. Our waitress was very friendly. The restaurant can be cleaned up a bit more. Given it is a barbecue place, things were a little sticky. Food was pretty good. Ribs were juicy and tender
Over priced for what you get. Their bbq is literally baby back sauce. The pulled pork sliders were 14$ for 2 TINY sliders. Wasnt even that good. Went there because it was the closest restaurant to our hotel. Came from out of town and was not impressed.
We got the ribs and the slice tri-tip hazard entree and shared it. The ribs were excellent the tri-tip not quite up to the same level but good. Service was excellent they were very helpful and accommodating and it was fun sitting out on the table on the patio outside and watching the street scene.
My mate and I were looking for a place to watch Liverpool play one morning. The restaurant wasnt open yet, but the owner invited us in and sat us at the bar. He was so nice! The bartender was also very friendly. There were great drink specials, I go back every time Im in San Diego. The food was good too, we went back every day we were there to get an appetizer and some drinks.
Ribs were delicious, service was outstanding, we sat on the patio and enjoyed our food and some wine while people watching, on a fabulous evening. We had purchased a bottle of wine elsewhere, they have cork service here so that was more convenient to drink our bottle with dinner instead of sitting in our room drinking it.
So heres the thing. Is the food the best? No. Is it good enough when Im drunk in the Gaslamp District? Absolutely. Good vibes nice people. Ribs were dry but Im not too picky when Im having a good time.
This place was awesome. Wife and I were walking through Downtown San Diego on a Saturday afternoon and couldn’t find really anything was open. Stopped by and the Gentleman working was awesome. Food was way better than we were expecting, super friendly place and quick service! Anytime we come back through we will defiantly be coming by for an afternoon bite!
Not the best bbq that I have had but not the worst either. I had the beef ribs and they were ok but did not stand out and the sauce was on the plain side. My wife had the rib burger but again nothing really that stood out. I would have really liked to see brisket on the menu, the menu seemed a bit limited. Overall it was a very average experience.
Unfortunately I will not go here again. Ribs were dry with no flavor (had to drown them in BBQ sauce). Burger patty is to small for their BIG bun. Over priced for what they serve. Very disappointing for sure. 😔
The staff is really great, and the food is standard fare. It was close to my hotel so it had a high convenience level with a friendly casual vibe.
Bbq was delicious!! Half of is a bar and half is a restaurant...since its downtown parking could be a little hard to come by but the bbq is definitely a try if you have never had it here before. Also the salad is pretty good, decent price and great value..
I DO NOT RECOMMEND GOING HERE. If I could give it a ZERO I would. This is probably the worst BBQ I have ever had. This is definitely more of a local BAR than a BBQ place. You could tell that the BBQ sauce was prepacked. The food was horrible, It also came cold. The beer was poured into the wrong kind of glass which had caked on food. It was disgusting. The staff was more interested in messing around with the regulars at the bar than doing their actual job. If you go here you have been warned.
BBQ was pretty good. Everyone in my group seemed to like it. They did have bbq sauce on the table and needed it. Food could have came with more sauce on it but it was okay. Would probably go again. They have tables inside and some outside.
Amazing food! I got the bbq chicken Cesar salad and my hubby got the bbq pork sandwich with potato salad. Huge portions, excellent prices. Friendly staff, restaurant was comfortable and completely empty when we were in around noon. Employees followed COVID protocol, tables were clean, hand sanitizer available, QR code menus all around! Great place to eat, would eat here again!
This was an awesome restaurant with great food and prices. Service was amazing. You know it’s going to be good when the cook comes out with the server to deliver your food. Highly recommend this place.
The service was exceptional, the food was delicious. We felt a little out of place upon entry- it’s a sports bar and we brought our kids- but Sam & the staff made us feel very welcome. High praises, high recommendation.
The ribs were tender and fell off the bone, the potato salad was pretty good, and the bbq sauce was tasty (what there was of it)...thats where the positive comments end.The pulled pork had an odd flavor in the seasoning that didnt blend well with the BBQ sauce. After our food came out, we were pretty much ignored, so no chance to get more sauce for the ribs. We had to flag another server to bring us our bill, the guy seating people to take my card, and our server returned with my card and receipt. Will not be going back and I hope there some better bbq in San Diego.
Tri tip was okay, yet a little dry and you can tell they used liquid smoke to add smoke flavor. The ribs were way overcooked and chewy. Pulled pork tasted like a sausage (not in a good wBBQ. The sauce (which is heavily needed to make the ribs and pulled pork edible), tastes like lays BBQ chips and no heat on the spicy version. Would never order anything other than the tri tip if I was forced to go back. Which I would do kicking and screaming because it was considerably less than mediocre. Avoid this place at all costs if you enjoy good bbq.
Average experience that is somewhat forgetable. I should have taken the lack of smell as a sign. A decent BBQ place smells like BBQ the moment you walk through the door.I had the Santa Fe burger and the quality is about the same one would find in a fast food restaurant with only slightly larger portions and at double the price. I dont drink but it seems they have a wide selection of beer.
Everything was good. We ordered pork rib, tri tip, sausage & beef rib. Beef rib was my favorite, bean & onion rings were awesome as well. Will definitely go back next time when we are in town.
The food was great. Had the John Wayne all the meats were tender and tasty. A sweet bbq sauce. Salad very large and French Onion soup was really flavorfull. We also had the tri-tip sandwich. Tasty fries and onion rings. The draft beer selections are plentiful and priced fair. The best thing was the service. Always checking back and all components served with good timing. Irene was a breath of fresh air in efficiency and very charming. She makes a good drink too. We will definitely return often! 5 stars today.
The food is definitely not worth the price unless its for happy hour. Ordered a sandwich, chicken kids meal, and hamburger. Only the sandwich was good. The other two meals felt like I could have purchased it from the frozen food store and saved my money and time.
Pull pork sandwich I had is one of the best. I couldnt put it down on my way home. Family owned, they smoke theyre meats and very friendly staff!
I drive all the way from Ranch Cucamonga to San Diego which is like a two hour drive, just for the bbq ribs and potato salad. It is the best ever. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Highly Recommend this place for bbq. Cant wait to try the tri- tip when it comes back on the menu.
I met up with someone for an offer up deal here. I didnt order anything, but they were really nice about me putting a guitar pedal board on their table especially since its been on the ground many times. I probably wont eat here because parking in downtown is atrocious and I avoid crowded spots with a bunch of tourists. Plus I heard Carls Jr. has BBQ sauce. The people eating seemed to enjoy their food alot nor did they mind a guitar pedal board at one of the tables either.
My husband is always wanting BBQ food and our normal spot was not open so I decided let me google somewhere else. Well, upon further review Gaslamp BBQ had the best reviews. Well... Id like to say the service was POOR and disappointing. As far as the food goes that was received was not good at all.Never have I seen bell peppers and onions on top of a BBQ sandwich. 😒Definitley wont be back.
Fast friendly service. Good beer and wine. Mediocre food. Ribs just okay. Salad and Cole slaw rather bland. Generally overpriced
The three man team held it down! Loved the warm greeting when we arrived, the help with menu item description (thanks for the heads up on the spicy mac) and the fast service. The baby back ribs melted in my mouth and the sauce is delicious. Thanks Spencer for a delightful evening. Well be back soon.
Expensive (what do you expect it’s downtown gas lamp) even though they do have happy hour it still a bit pricey. Also the guy never gave me my change back, although it was a dollar (the beer was $9) I was clearly sober and reading the menu so I know I wasn’t tripping. Yes it’s only a dollar, but if you’re handling people’s money when they’re drinking you should be somewhat considerate about their money
We ordered the Platter with 3 options. The bbq was really mediocre. The mac n cheese was very disappointing. It was box mac n cheese. The ends of our chicken sausage were hard (probably from microwaving it). The pulled pork was a little off as well. Wish we would have ordered something else. Felt like a huge waste of money. My husband and I were very disappointed.
Food was good but Ive never had the worst service than I did there lastnight and it was my first time dinning there🤷♀️Five tables received their meals before we did and they were seated after us😒Ive worked in the restaurant business for years and there needs to be more awareness communication between the staff there! Loved my Bbq bacon cheeseburger though😋
My husband had the ribs and they were awesome. I had the Tri Tip and it was horrible. Our waiter came to our table after my husband was finished and I said my food wasnt good and he did offer something else but a little too late......I would not recommend this place. Too many awesome places in that area, skip this place! I love the Gaslamp area minus Gaslamp BBQ.
Customer service terrible. Food was less than to be desirable. Out for a conference stopped by on Monday over an hour before I was even waited on. Definite local spot. Stopped by tonight for confirmation and what I experienced Monday was the same thing all over again. Difference is this time I waited on food while watching the game. Unfortunately you have to rate restaurants with at least a 1. Save your time and money.
Not even worth 1 star. Ordered a half rack of beef ribs. Way to salty, one of 5 ribs had zero meat on it, and top it off way over cooked. Stray dog food. They should have said pay us $23 bux for beef ribs for your dog. I knew I should of went to the OB BBQ HOUSE for my beef ribs. NEVER AGAIN. Stay away unless you like dog food. OB BBQ HOUSE FOR THE WIN!!!!
Excellent BBQ! Even the sides were award-winingly delicious! Low key atmosphere with TVs around the open restaurant. Seating is available outside. The service was wonderful. I would absolutely come back!
I’ve lived downtown in and around the Gaslamp for six years and for whatever reason never really stopped by Gaslamp BBQ until last night. WOW, Ok, I had apparently forgotten how outstanding their food really is. The meats are all well-seasoned and cooked perfectly and the baked beans and potato salad are out of this world! Food in the Gaslamp area typically isn’t the best but Gaslamp BBQ knocks it out of the park. It goes without saying, the drinks are pretty awesome as are the staff working there. Thanks so much for the fantastic BBQ, great service, and cool atmosphere!
Friendly Service only one server so she wasnt as quick around lunch time with all the tables, but before the rush she was very friendly and quick. Delicious Burger too and the Mac and Cheese was just the right amount of spice
It was OK. The server was very nice. Tri to was on point. Riva were a little dry and the pulled pork had an anise note I didnt care for.
The beef ribs had good flavor theres onion rings options but you get exactly 5 rings for 30.00 a plate you would think you get more than 5
Our wait staff was wonderful. Both the waiter and the restaurant manager were very helpful kind courteous made our experience very enjoyable. Unfortunately both my wife and I had the tri-tip. I dont know if its a California thing but it was extremely dry and had very little flavor of smoke. Being Keto I try to depend on meats that are moist and not using any barbecue sauces I had to actually ask for butter to use as a lubricant to get this stuff down. It was rather bland my wife had the same opinion. My sons Burger add at least almost an entire childs bite before you got to a Patty and they claimed it was such a large Burger the only thing a large was the bun.
The place serves there own smoked.meats. I had the ribs they were just ok. The three people I was with had the ribs on a bun which the waitress said was a favorite of hers. No one likes it. I tried a piece and it had almost no flavour. Service was ok but I would not return
When i first saw this place i thought no thanks until i actually set foot inside.. the bbq was yummy and the service (at the table) was great. we tried to come in for drinks on our last day of con but the bartenders were super busy hanging with their friends... :( no worries though. we still enjoyed the day before when we ate.
I had the slaw, beans and rib burger. The slaw is made fresh: the carrot and cabbage is still crisp when its put in front of you. The beans were fantastic: they use a lighter Yankee bean recipe that theyve tweaked with jalepenos among other things. Finally the ribs were fantastic: I have had worse BBQ from award winners at The Ohio State Fair. Highly recommend this place if you like BBQ.
Im rating only a 3 for a few reasons;1. When one is on the hunt or desiring bbq ,its the smell that attracts you, this place had none. We just happened to find it as we walked through the area and wanted a cold beer.2. We ordered beer. Average price, and a basket of fries and onion rings. The basket of onion rings were way under the expected size and greasy. The main menu wasnt that impressive, I will have to try a combo plate next time Im there so I can sample real food. Atmosphere is not that of a bbq joint, more of a restored restaurant selling bbq, if that makes sense.Hopefully others will find this place enjoyable, I am like, blah.
It was O.K. Jessy was the server. I had the rib and chicken combo with fries and I added on BBQ beans. The ribs came out this gray color, it looked more like they had been sous vide or instapoted rather than bbqd. They were tasteless and overdone. They were kinda swiped over with a basic BBQ sauce. The chicken was hard and was just dipped in that same sauce.I had to remind Jessy about my beans, which were basically doctored up canned beans. But the atmosphere was O.K., so theres that. Otherwise, unless you dont care and just want to drink, Id skip this place.
It was just ok. We was treated like we were an afterthought.
Been in few times for BBQ chicken. Really good, sit at bar. Had new turkey sandwich which tried. Ok, but sticking with BBQ. Good service.
Good bbq. Good smoke line.. Pretty dang big portions. Really, what more you want at a BBQ house? Came during Covid. One of the few places that was open along the Gaslamp main street. Pulled pork wasnt as juicy as I would like, but the portion size made up for it. Servers wore masks, but not really enforced for diners. Seemed like a place with a lot of regulars which is always a good sign.
Really awesome quality of the food combined with an authentic american ambient and very kind service made our lunch just GREAT! Totally go there!
Waited an hour for myfood. They cant handle any kind of high capacity, l couldnt even imagine this place for Comic-Con. When i finally got my food the sandwich was good, the beans where generic canned beans.
Went there during Comicon, which was a mistake, as the prices were probably inflated. The food was flavorless unless you doused it with the runny bbq sauce that was on the table.
I never do this but Im in so much pain I have to let out my anger. I had their 1/2 rack of ribs and a side of fries at 6 pm. It is now 10 pm and Im at home clutching my stomach hoping I dont throw up but I have a trash can nearby just in case. This was the last thing I ate so there is nothing else that could have done this to me. I feel so horrible I might give up meat for the rest of the summer. Worst food experience Ive had in years.Edit 11:30 pm: I just threw up and my apartment smells like bad bbq. I will never eat at this establishment again.
The pulled pork had no smoke flavor. Was a bit bland but had a weird garlicky, pepper flavor then added BBQ sauce it.I ordered the Comic-con cheesy fries with pork and my wife the pulled pork sandwich. It was as if they bought the pork, seasoned it and added BBQ sauce rather than actually BBQing it themselves
Went here while visiting San Diego. There werent many people here and the service was super slow. We had to ask several times for things we originally ordered and repeat ourselves about everything we had already said. The chicken tenders and fries appeared to be pre- packaged frozen food.
Ordered the John Wayne platter and got a huge mound of cole slaw and very little ribs or chicken.
Went here last week for lunch. It was okay, the pulled pork wasnt the best but the ribs were pretty good! Drinks were okay as well.
The positive reviews here are lies. This is the worst bbq ever. Food is pre-cooked elsewhere and heated up in the microwave or something quick and then barbecue sauce is basically poured on the food out of the jar. Ordered barbecue chicken and try tip and both were absolutely terrible. Everything is store bought microwaveable quality. Stay away
The food I order was wonderful. Staff was VERY friendly and professional. Establishment was very clean. Its a wonderful place to go with family and friends. I will be back soon
Hot wings were good, caution ⚠️ they may be too 🔥 for some people...😉
Very good service. Huge portions. No red or amber beer (but that seems consistent here in San Diego).
Went for happy hour. $5 beers and shots. Tried the BBQ slider... just OK. Only one sauce and its nothing special. Ill give it one more try for the ribs and see how it goes.
We ordered a pulled pork sandwich (my husbands favorite) and a bbq chicken sandwich...neither was good. We were super disappointed because we love barbeque food but the flavor was severely lacking.
Happy Hour always!! Or at the least drink specials always! $5 shots & tap beers! We always drop in here right before or right after Berkley Pizza right across the street so we havent eaten here but always drinks here!
Food was dry dry dry. Owner and pit master should be embarrassed and close up shop. Arbys is 1000 times better. 1 star for cold beer.
Bruh... over a 100 bucks for 4 beers and a titos vodka and onion rings? Fuuuuuuuudge. I get it prime real estate.
In the world of pretentious food a light shines bright! Continue on my country brothers! Great food and great service!
Great onion rings. Solid pulled pork very lean but doesnt have any smoke to the flavor. Good-sized portion.
Food is terrible. ordered the Tri Tip bbq plate and tasted like sliced roast beef that was put in the microwave, then smothered in BBQ sauce. Cups were also very dirty. I would not recommend anyone eating here.
Okay, I never actually ate at this place but Im in town visiting from Chicago and passed by this place a few times. I figured it would be a good place for some BBQ so me and the family walked in, sniffed and oddly enough we could not detect the faintest whiff of anything being bbqd. Im sorry, but how is it possible for a BBQ joint to not smell like BBQ? Instead, it smelled like an old tavern. Needless to say we made a quick U turn and chose another spot.
The ribs are tender, full of flavour, the staff is friendly and takes good care! Good atmosphere! I would recommend to go here.
Carlos is the man, just came in and he made us feel like regulars. Great prices, spot of love. One of my favorite places to drop in
When I first got their.. Im like okay cool this is a bbq restaurant in downtown sd.. but then it hit me thier is no smell of smoke but Ill give it a try anyways it might be good but the food Their was absolutely gross.. no flavor or seasoning.. .. and the baked beans consist of baked beans and red and green bell peppers that is yuck .. I suggest dont eat their and waste your money or time
Great bbq - came here after a Padres game and the meal did not disappoint! We also thought the burger was phenomenal.
Great service, all American atmosphere. American football on. Good variety of beers on tap. Large portion sizes of food and decent too.
We had beef ribs and they fell off the bone. The meat was tender the barbecue sauce is off the chain Add the food was good with flavor
Guy there was rude my bbq pork was cold when I asked to have it hotter they did it but basically some guy called me a liar said it was just a chunk of it. So obviously its microwaved. Definitely not worth the $.
Gas Lamp BBQ is great, I had the pulled pork sandwich while visiting San Diego for a conference and it we as quite delicious. They even provide conference attendees a discount with conference badges. During my week long conference Gas Lamp BBQ stood out as one of my favorite meals. The sandwich bread even large enough for a second meal!
Great drinks! Great outdoor patio! The bbq was good, the sauce had different flavor then I have had at other bbq restaurants, but not bad! Worth trying out!
Dont know how they can call this BBQ, they ran out of ribs and they didnt have brisket on the menu. I understand the cost because of location, but I would have rather pushed out and found better food.
Shoestring French fries, nothing special there. Got a burger with pulled pork. Pork was good but not enough. Burger tasted frozen. Price was good.
The food was excellent. It was all delicious. It was a great place to hang out with friends & catch up. Glad they were open during Covid.
