A great little place on 18th street where all kinds of people go although it is a gay bar with a great atmosphere. They dont do food here.
Visiting.I got refused service at the bar because my ID was damaged. its a french ID and yes the corners were a bit damaged since Im 35yo and this was issued more than 10years ago. But there is absolutely no issue in verifying that the ID is good and the DOB is clearly readable. I even offered to show a picture of my passport on my phone.Anyways I went next door to Midnight Sun and there was no issue as well with other bars in Castro.Dont go complaining people dont support gay bar when you literally refuse service for stupid reasons.Bye.
I came here earlier this week with my boyfriend. Drinks were decent (by gay bar standards) and the ambiance was good. I thought the service was great until the bartender requested to close our tab early after a single round without offering us another order—effectively asking us to leave. We were a reasonably well-dressed, quiet gay couple and it was a slow, early tuesday evening. Why give us the boot? Extremely alienating.
Came to the city for the first time ever on vacation. Of our 6 night stay, we were at Moby Dick’s 5 of those nights. Nate and Bryan treated me and my best friend like they had known us forever (which is rare to find in the bar scene). We will always come back here when we return to the city. Just a good down to earth bar. Thanks Nate & Bryan! These guys are an assert to this place. The drinks were fantastic. 10/10 would recommend!
This is got to be one of my favorite bars in the Castro. Great bartenders, a pool table and just a great place to hangout with friends. This is a drama free place, unlike some the other local places. And having Big Daddy on draft, made my day
I love this bar. Its a nice neighborhood bar. Love the large wall size fish tank. The bartender are personable. Not just wanting tops like other places. It Can get busy so be patient. Theres no patio so if you smoke u have to go out front. They have a bowel of complimentary condoms. Beer prices are low, drinks are as well. Great place to hang with your buddies
This local bar made us feel right at home. The beer on tap is in wide array and very well priced, as is the cocktails during happy hour. We had planned to bar hop most nights in SF, but always seemed to hang out here. A great casual spot where you can mingle, play pool and enjoy yourself.
Great low key bar. Had a pool table and a couple pinball machines. The aquarium at the bar was interesting too. Good place to relax with a drink
Im not the established audience for this establishment, but I had the time of my life here! Very reasonable beverages and a very reasonable price, but thats not what made the night. I met the most friendly and kind people Ive ever encountered. My wife and I will definitely be returning. If I could give 10 stars I would!
If your looking for a low-key dive, this is it. The crowd varies depending on the day of the week and the time of night youre there, but theres really nothing special about this, as one reviewer has already said, except the fish tank. The bartenders are friendly, and the drinks are strong. It being a little farther from Castro Street can mean a little less crowded. Definitely a place we like!
We were on our honeymoon and out to enjoy a night in San Francisco in early October. The name stood out to me so we walked on in and ordered some drinks on a Wednesday night. Little did we know they had a drag show starting a few hours after we arrived. Lucky us!! This was my husbands first time experiencing one. He loved it! Of course I loved it! Nice little place for cocktails, beers, maybe a game of pool, and an AWESOME drag show.
Much more of a Castro neighborhood bar than it’s neighbors. Also friendlier with fewer posers. Decent drinks if not amazing, at good prices. A better choice than The Mix or loud scene-y Sun. Here you can actually have a conversation with your friends.
This used to be one of my favorite bars in the city. I enjoyed their pool table and the overall atmosphere. As of July 28, 2021 they started discriminating based on health status and asking for health records which is a HIPAA violation!
Nice little bar on the corner of 18th/Hartford streets serving a beer and liquor until your hearts content. The bartenders are happy guys who all seem to draw the same crowd and although most bars in the Castro are a little pretentious this place leaves it judgment at the door. Nowhere else in the neighborhood can you find a fish tank with a phallic presence within. Plus you can get all the pear cider you want!
Always The Best Bartenders...!! Love Them All... So Professional & Dedicated to Us the patrons... Making our visits the Most Memorables. The crowd is always Fun. Good prices for Excellent drinks. Pool table and Pinball machines... Yeay!!
This is currently my favorite bar in the city. After watching the Giants World Series, Halloween, costumes, etc. This is the place where everybody and anybody goes. Low key, friendly, great selection of beer and powerful drinks. Still a classic in SF and hope it stays this way. Great great bar!
Ive been going here since 79. Visited there today, ordered a margarita was 1 of 2 persons in the bar, 35 mins later wanted another margarita, the bartender Mateo was more INDULGED into himself and could care less about customers. Mateo is not there for owners revenue making process. Joe Coletti, your attention neded. The time was 3:50-4p. Left the bar just before 4p.
Really fantastic people, atmosphere; its got pin ball, fun music, and pool. The only down side is that the beer selection is less than or equal to whatever you can get in Mom n Paps liquor store.
We were lucky enough to find parking in front of Moby Dick Bar. After having our first drink, we ventured off to site see and then returned to enjoy a 2nd drink. Our bartender was personable & down to earth. Cant wait to return.
This is probably my favorite bar in the Castro minus the trashy bathtub size urinal and the grumpy short bartender that never smiles.
Good crowd on a Sunday afternoon
Great bar, great drinks & great staff as well. Well worth a visit
Came here on Halloween, and it was pretty crazy. Given the location and the number of people coming through, I was surprised at how clean it was. Interesting mix of people when I was there, and I liked the layout, with an elevated open area toward the back where you could stand and talk.Although it probably goes without saying for a place called Moby Dick in the Castro, you dont want to go here if youre not comfortable around gay people. Fair warning: the mens bathroom consists of a trough with a mirror on the opposite side, so you literally have a row of guys standing there staring at each others penises. A little disconcerting for a straight man, but... well, its certainly a unique place.
Very chill place; the drinks were weren’t over-the-top expensive and the crowd was laid back and fun.
So great - it was the bartender’s bday and we all had a great time. Lots of fun, definitely come here!
Good music and good environment. They have a shared pool table and pinball machines. This is a good pace to have a beer or drink before party hard.
Great ambiance, loved it... Patrick is an awesome bartender, bought me & my friend free beers when we told him we are visiting from Africa.
First time and I LOVED it!! Music was great, even better vibes, and drinks were cheap! What more could you ask for?!
When youre fav bartender is on, this place is the cats meow. Wish my friend came to town more often, since this is where we hang and drink lotsa beers when he does.
Great bar. Only here for an afternoon drink. Couldve stayed longer. Friendly chat with locals and bar staff alike. Thanks guys.
Tropical fish, booze, pool, pinball, LGBTQ crowd. What more can you ask for? Look closely at the central piece of coral in the fishtank. Real or man-made?
Chill Sunday hangout to start off the night. The gal checking IDs at the door was delightful funny.
Thirsty Thu is awesome. Did shots with total strangers. Expensive but work it. Weekend daytime bartenders rock!
Great bar but please get rid of the annoying pool table! Put a dance floor instead or more tables!
Great playlists with cheap drinks. If you don’t get the frozen margs you’re fuggin up.
Had a great time and great drinks! So Cal resident thanks you!
Great bar 🍸 bargain Happy hours, really friendly atmosphere
Its a good bar and friendly bartenders.
Its a good bar. Nothing particularly special except the fish tank.

Warm, calm atmosphere. Very nice bar, and extremely nice waiter, passing through Paris we recommend 😉
