The vibes in this goth bar are immaculate! With a dark interior and black walls, they have multiple shows throughout the week (drag shows, karaoke nights). There are fun booths, barseats, and an outdoor patio. The space also includes a few arcade games (Ms. Pac-Man, Tetris) and a pool table. The bartender is also AMAZING. Besides the many delicious cocktails on the menu, she was also willing to make any drinks we were interested in trying! One does need to show ID before entering and note that on weekend nights, it does get quite crowded.
Finally got to chance with the wife to hit up the Wench. Stephanie and Jasmine had been trying for a long time to get us to just come out and check the place out and Im damn glad we did. Food is damn good, great place to kick start the night. Atmosphere is on the darker side, but was not a bad thing.Your vehicle maintenance family approves of the place and we will be back in the not too distant future to enjoy again. And see if our DeSoto will be there, I miss the old girl
The drinks were weak, which sucks considering how expensive each drink was. The staff was all incredibly personable. When I spend $100 on drinks and generous tips, is it too much to ask that I least get buzz? I think now. The atmosphere was great though, I went on 80s night and even sober I had an excellent time!
If you think you want to do karaoke here on Wednesday, go to the Silver Room instead. We were there at 9 and finally left at 10:45 while they were still slowly setting up. The food and drinks were good, though.
I love the Surly Wench pub. They have an amazing kitchen, the staff is awesome, the aesthetic is great, and the events they host are always fun, from burlesque shows, to karaoke night. If youre curious about this pub, you owe it to yourself to visit them.
Love the cool dark/gothic vibe of this place. Caught a burlesque show here which was super fun - with some impressive talent on the stage! I visited during the afternoon and again the same night for the show. Both times it was a challenge to get bartenders attention and they werent the friendliest. Maybe its part of the schtick because of the name?? Overall: diverse crowd, plenty of standing room, reasonable drink prices, friendly door staff, unique entertainment (they also have live music that isnt the normal boring stuff), outdoor patio - would definitely visit again.
Great dive bar on historic Tucson 4th Ave, in a somewhat historic building, in the heart of downtown Tucson. Nothing special about this bar to draw in more than the local regulars, but thats what makes this place great! It doesnt get crowded and the drink specials are plentiful! Bars like this charge proper drink prices, not the price surges seen in overly popular bars of today.
Went on a whim to dance and was delighted by an 80s alternative/new wave/goth DJ set. Good crowd of folks of all kinds dancing and having a good time. Felt super inclusive and not judgy. Did not eat here so I connot speak to that.
We are in Tucson for 2 nights and stopped by the Surly Wench for a drink and some food on a Sunday evening. Everything was so good. Our bartender Jennifer made us some great drinks and her Mai Tai was amazing! We shared a Royale Burger protein style (lettuce wrap) and not only did it smell amazing, it was so good! Being a Sunday night there were still quite a few people and the place is decorated just right. If youre ever in the Tucson area, this is for sure a must. Great food, great drinks and the staff is awesome!
Excellent place to have drink, shoot pool, and peruse the eclectic art on the walls and shelves. Karaoke weekdays is fun and DJ’s or burlesque on the weekend. Pretty sure to have fun here.
The Surly Wench Pub as an interesting visit to Tucson! While the style and concept were both interesting and new, paying a cover for a place like this was a bit off! But overall enjoyed our time there!
Its Hailsz For Surly Wench Owners&Suoer-Awesome Staff!Glorious Bartenders!&Especially for Funeline Revusited!Cos were the Original Kidz from back un the day!&A Soecial Hailsz For DJ Stubbs!Thank You! 💕 💞 ♥️ 💜 💙 🧡 🎶 🎵 💃 🥳 🍺 🍻 🍷 🥂 🍾!YEA!!!
Went in there with her friend to do karaoke. Apparently they had a KJ who was filling in that night who did not know what they were doing. Could not saying unless she gave them your email. Didnt even know how to work their own mics the main reason theyre getting a one is because of their karaoke show
We’re new to Tucson and went to the Surly Wench Pub for The Fineline Revisited goth night. We had a blast! I’ve been to goth nights all over the country and can say this one is top notch. Tons of people on the dance-floor, great DJ, great sound system and lighting. The drinks were cheap and the service great. Will be frequenting Surly Wench Pub, you’ve got two new patrons
Fun place / great dancing music late nights, nice atmosphere, kool staff/tenders👍🏽
One of my favorite places in Tucsons nightlife. The staff are always quick and courteous and there is no drop in the quality of service when the bar is packed. Theyre very involved in the community, often holding fundraising events for different local causes (animal shelter, Tucson pride, among others,) and they are extremely alt and queer friendly. The crowd skews older (mid 30s- late 40s) with younger alt people coming in later on the weekends. The drinks are a little cheaper than most places in Tucson with well drinks being $5 at happy hour and $6 full price, cocktails run from $9 to $12, in my experience, and food goes for about the same at anywhere between $10 and $20. The food tends to be a lot better than youd expect from any old dive bar, and the specials can be incredibly good.
It absolutely breaks my heart to write this review because I’ve always loved and talked so highly about this place. After out experience today I would implore anyone with ethnic decent to stay away. The rude ponytail bartender had the nerve to say “just to let you know in America we tip 20%” (we did tip just not to his liking) How is that even an acceptable way to run a business. Now this was for one round of shots not not like we had him making a million different drinks. After the one set of shots we left and will never be back.
Would. Give it 5 starts but both heaters outside were outt of propane so it was freezing on the patio. But great place friendly staff. Beers are mostly 6 well mixed are 7 or more
Surly Wench is a fantastic bar that pays great attention to appearances and has a wide selection of drinks. It attracts a special, artistic, and friendly crowd. Ive recently gotten turned onto their karaoke. It debatably is the best one in town- the host is very skilled, he knows how to mix the sound really well to get the best out of your voice. Plus, its on a stage, and everyone is a captive and supportive audience. If they did it on Fridays and Saturdays, theyd beat out Iguana for best karaoke in Tucson.
Had a blast there for karaoke while traveling through on business!Good food, good drinks... the cocktails werent pure alcohol so I didnt facepaint in my heels... and Black Hat Karaoke is just top notch!
Love this place. Great people behind the bar and nice crowd. Prices are great and they have PBR on tap! Nice place to relax and be sure to check out the walls. Cools stuff hanging there
Had a wonderful time at Goth night. Awesome bartenders!Didnt order any food, so I cant say anything about that. All in all, an excellent experience! 👍🤟
Had dinner and drinks at this Tucson staple tonight. Menu is typical pub fare but it is set apart by being cooked to perfection. Comfort on a plate! The Sonoran Wench Fries were delicious and not a flavor combo Ive experienced elsewhere. Nice range of beer either on tap or available in bottles/cans; lager, hefeweizen, IPA, stout, and porter (both local and national) theres something for every palate. Cocktail menu is unique and reasonably priced. I highly recommend the Grow A Pear cocktail; flavors are balanced, spiced pear notes shine. Havent had a chance to attend a show here yet but if the food and drinks are any indication then shows are probably awesome too!
Its okay. The atmosphere was strange: a mix of pirates, skateboards, Elvis and Dolly, skeletons. They advertised an 80s dance party for Saturday night and hardly anyone was there. The only advertising was a poster.I grew up in the 80s and 90s and didnt recognize any music- it was edited too much that even Shazam couldnt recognize it. We tried looking up several songs. We left after and hour and half.Drinks were good, although overpriced.
Nice layout with intriguing design. Friendly bartenders with fair drink $$. Awesome energy on the dance floor, especially when they host themed parties. This is one of my most trusted spots on 4th. Punk lives on!
Carlos was breath of fresh air in the service industry. Bringing with him the experience and personality to make customers fell like they matter. Love the vibe. Great job Carlos!
Honestly, I used to intimidated by this place before actually going inside lol. Recently went to grab a drink and one thing I love about this place is that even though Im not a regular they still treat me like one. The doorman is always very courteous, the bartender is very personable, and their food service is great! They also have new and unique drink specials whenever I go that are affordable. We were socially distanced in an outdoor area with nice music and lighting. Overall, a great place to socialize with friends in a safe and welcoming environment.
This has always been a good spot to drop by for a drink, with a good atmosphere.
I frequent the Surly Wench for the Fineline Revisited, and DJ StubbieGreat DJ, sound system, atmosphere, and reasonably priced.Good bar food and friendly fast service, the bartenders are great!
If you want to lose yourself on a dance floor during retro or disco night. A must. Drinks are cheap and not watered down, there is a pool table. The black cherry burlesque show is the first Friday of every month - been a full house for the last 8 years.
Not what it used to be. New bartender is horrible, no service, and serves her friends while not noticing you walked in a half hour ago. The barback noticed right away and was nice, but wasnt allowed to serve drinks. Maybe a better experience if they get a new bartender.
Great food good music bad bouncer/ crowd management.Three bartenders at bar, two were very busy one ignored me. Unsure if staffing or management issue. They need a person standing outside at the door and the guy collecting cover to be two different people. They let people smoking pot into the building and a guy obviously on something in a bathrobe with an led cape. Bf got assaulted by someone with plastic eggs in their hair. This crowd was totally out of place as it was goth night.Ruined our evening so we left.I love the food and the atmosphere but Im so upset about what happened to my partner I dont think we can come back ever again.
Love this spot! The drinks food and atmosphere are all great. The art on the wall is dope also. Very Tucson vibes.
Best karaoke in Tucson (Wednesdays and Thursdays). Also, try the elote nachos! Kitchen is open late for those who get hungry when they’re out drinking.
Although I regret not having sung anything tonight, I had a blast hanging out with friends all while having a great time for my first time ever visiting. Definitely worth a five star rating and will most likely consider singing something good at my next visit.
Great atmosphere and phenomenal karaoke by Black Hat Karaoke. Everyones friendly and the bartenders know their drinks. The pub food is outstanding as well. I definitely recommend trying Surly Wench Pub.
Food never disappoints nor do the drinks.
Moms tacos were amazing! My sister had a burger with cheese and basic toppings to be *safe* with a new to her place and said it was one of the best burgers shes ever had, that the meat was spiced beautifully. Staff were swift and awesome. Atmo fun and chill :)
Its dark in the best ways, theres an Elvira pinball machine and a jukebox with real CDs, absolutely amazing food, smoking patio, TV that seems to only play movies from before 2001, and the bartenders are all the good kind of sassy... Its an amazing goth/punk dive bar somehow hidden away on one of the busier avenues.Great atmosphere, definitely worth checking out.
The atmosphere of this place is incredible, if youre into a dark goth theme this is definitely the place for you. The bartenders are quick and friendly and theres always some sort of event going on in here from burlesque, to a local band playing, to karaoke. 5 stars all the way.
Love this place! Always great vibes! Phenomenal bloody Mary. Pool tables available. Also they have special events, I was there valentines day which they had comedy open mic. Was hilarious. Bartenders/owners were super nice. Highly recommend.
Walking by this pub on a Saturday night and heard the techo/goth bumping. We just had to come in, the $5 cover was well worth it. Great drink selection, friendly staff, the dj was fire, the decor is awesome and the smell of fabuloso puts my experience over the top.
My friend and I went in to the surly to try and sing a song, the karaoke DJ with the ponytail was extremely rude to her, kept talking down to her, and completely skipped her instead of putting the song up that she wanted. Im sorry you heard her wrong because youre drunk and belligerent and cant hear clearly. I always want to give Surly a chance, but each time I go there is always something that puts me off from this place. Will never return to here.
This place actually is very nice, abd let alone super awesome, located at 4th ave, best street in tucson and this place has very cool service, all the staff are chill yet professional and its also has a goth vibe to it which I really love,, and they play cool movies on the TV, they have shows every now and again, a place thats a must visit.
This place 86ed me for no reason. They said that I was with people that were stealing even tho I was at the bar alone. I was completely sober (hadnt even ordered a drink yet) and thought the bouncer was being a bit unreasonable so I asked to speak to the owner or manager. They refused and told me Im not allowed back. This is insane. They used to be my favorite place to drink after work. My old review of this place is below so you can see how I reviewed them before being treated so unreasonably. ☆☆☆☆☆The burgers are bomb and the drinks are cheap and strong. Its dark and surly and they have pool tables. Theyve got my vote for 4th Ave bars. They have lost a long time good customer which they obviously dont deserve anyway. Do not give this place business. They are garbage.
Made a quick stop for a drink, Sat/Sunday about 1 AM. The bartender was amazing as always. We discussed the history of the building and they worked their magic on a specialty shot. Always a great place to stop in, you can feel the old 4th ave vibes coming through the floor boards. 🖤
I went to support a friend that was in concert. It was very interesting, I must say. I definitely think the place has an awesome setup
Really interesting hole in the wall with great drinks and food. Great crowd for punks and misfits. The age group seems to be mostly 35-45.
This place is Awesome with great food. I absolutely loved the entertainment the night we were there. Old school 80s house, London Punk. It was perfect
Love the atmosphere. I love look at an oldschool jukebox and see the Misfits logo from across the room and then see all the rest of the great music it holds. The food is good definitely more than I expect from a pub.
I went to Surly Wench Pub last night for a Stranger Things night and I was very disappointed. They charged a $5 cover fee since it was a special event, but there was absolutely nothing that related to Stranger Things other than a few customers who dressed up. There were only two bartenders (plus 1 barback) and it took us over 40 minutes of standing at the bar to get our first round of drinks. The bartenders were clearly overworked and were rude in our few interactions with them.
There is nothing i dislike about this place. The drinks are inexpensive and STRONG. The events are fin and inclusive. Playing pool here is a divine testament to ones skill at billiards. The staff are attentive and genuinely care about you and your experience - a quality shared by precious few drinkeries. Even the food will knock your socks off. If you havent found yourself yet at The Wench on a weekend evening, you are simply doing yourself a grave disservice. Fix it. Today is Saturday. Go there, now. Stay til they close.
Have been in here several times over the past few weeks and a female bartender with bleached hair has been awful every single time, and is the reason myself and my friends group will not be going back. She was sarcastic and demeaning to me and ignored our orders. This place used to be welcoming but this woman has single handedly ruined it.
Great local spot. Shout out to Carlos, the bartender. Great guy and really knows his old fashioned. Good times.
Best bar on 4th / downtown. Easily. Amazing jukebox. Dark, punk rock, strong drinks, queer friendly, old school video games, burlesque nights...cmon. The Wench fxxking rules!
A long time favorite among Tucson locals, this niche pub is home to a colorful cast of regulars, a welcoming atmosphere for first time guests, an unparalleled staff for both customer service and making your food and beverage better than anywhere else, as well as the wackiest amalgam of decor ever assembled. You will never regret a trip to the Wench whether youre grabbing a quick bite, having a relaxing post-work drink with colleagues, settling in for an evening with friends, or enjoying one of the many live shows the venue has skillfully produced for 16 glorious years. So much more than just another bar on the avenue, Surly Wench Pub is a safe, welcoming, home away from home where even the worst days feel better just by entering the building. Do yourself and the Tucson community a favor and support this amazing small business so that they can continue to bring joy for many years to come.
First time going and we went to see the Jingle Belles Jingle Balls performance, basically a burlesque/manlesque show. It was a $10 cover for about 2 hours of entertainment. The people that performed did such a great job and had a great attitude!!!! It was a show great for everyone men and women and the holiday theme just made it that much better. Only wishes that they would have had some drink specials with the show but its another bar downtown. They do serve food but not a huge selection.
Best place to go on 4th Ave. Their live music, DJs and burlesque shows are great
This. Is. The. Greatest. Bar. In. The. World. You will never find a more welcoming environment, regardless of what you are looking for in a night out. Amazing service, great drinks, delicious food, fantastic shows, friendly staff, the list of amazing things about this establishment are too long to fully recognize here. It is my one and only destination whenever I go out for a night on the town.
Been a Burlesque performer here for a number of years and a patron even before that. Steph and Jasmine and the rest of the staff are so accomodating to me every time I perform and I consider this place my family. I cannot express how much I love this place and how tailored it is to my genre of music and people! Its my go to place when I want to go out and listen to old school alternative music and hang with awesome people! I will always be a supporter of this place and my home of First Fridays Burlesque! I love you guys!
I am 29 (so not under 21) and was soberly out with my fiancées family on a Saturday showing them Tucson. I was not feeling well, and realized I was going to be sick. I panic walked up and down the street and was relieved to see the doors open of The Surly Wench (which we have actually really wanted to check out since moving here a couple of months ago). The bar had maybe one or two patrons inside since it was only 4pm. I asked the bouncer at the front door if I could use the restroom and he said no, that I would have to buy a drink first. I told him I was going to be sick, and he said he did not care and it was policy. I had to throw up in a trash can on the street in front of the busy Saturday milieu and my fiancées family. I thought this was exceptionally unkind, and makes me not want to visit this bar anymore.
Kinda divey bar in one of Tucsons trendy area. Food is ordered at a kitchen window, and looked to be of the Im drinking tonight variety. The name is misleading though - the staff were not in the least surly. The bar selection was good, if not exceptional. We were in at a slow time of day, so the seats around the stage were closed off. There were a few pieces of ratty taxidermy on the walls, a couple of pool tables and a combination of booths and tables.
Best bar in downtown Tucson, hands down! Juniper the bartender was so perfect! Friendly, good pour, intelligent and charismatic AF. Love this place so much. Lets not forget about the best jukebox in Tucson.
Best place to relax and have fun in Tucson!!Wonderful owners and a great atmosphere.Good food available also. The #1 spot for the best Burlesque shows. We love it there and will always recommend it!!!!
The place is an institution for great local music. I look forward to working with them in the near future. They pour perfect drinks, theyre super friendly, and they have killer taste. 5 stars
Went to The Wench on a Friday night for the Pretty Things Peepshow. Go Go Amy and cast put on a great show. The burgers were delicious, the fried cheese (hand breaded sliced mozzarella) was supreme. Drinks were tasty and cold. All in all, a fantastic show and evening.
Bar tender was very nice and able to handle several people at a time. Had karaoke going and good songs. Prices are about normal but the environment was friendly and happy
Dope little bar. Karaoke night is fun! Lots of friendly people, chill staff, and the Sierra Nevada Otra Vez is super tasty. Moscow Mules on point too. Do recommend! Also the bathroom signs are hilarious, just pay attention so you dont go in the wrong bathroom. ;)
The wench is in a class all its own. Lowbrow dive bar with an awesome owner and the best bartenders, with a huge variety of events every single week. From comedy to karaoke to burlesque and oh so much more, the wench is a one stop shop for anyone looking to have an epic evening. Oh yeah, and they have delicious food, too! I definitely recommend Moms Tacos!
I visited Surly Wench as part of the Return of the Mermaids event on 8/12/17. The Wench hosted the Dark Sirens Dance Party.Theres two rooms at the Wench: the main door opens into a bar and seating area that costs nothing to walk in (they just check your ID at the door), and another door opens to a larger bar area with stage and dance floor; they charge you cover to enter the larger bar area, usually $5. The who thing feels spacious because of the high ceilings and curved booth seating. Prompt service from bartenders, dimly lit and decorated with everything Pirate themed, good music sets by the DJ, and a fair selection of beers on tap. Theres pool tables next to the dance area, and arcade style games at the opposite end.
Ive been going to the Wench for several years now and its become my new permanent place since Fly closed down. Ive always loved the diversity that i notice while I people watch and have never felt uncomfortable... even when Im the only one dressed in bright colors on fineline nights. Ive gotten to know both owners and staff over the years and have formed lasting friendships both with staff and strangers Ive meet there. Its my safe place to go when meeting a blind date as well as just going out solo. They dont ever have an issue when i do my sober months and just go out to socialize. While I know surly may not be everyones shot of whiskey but if youve thought about checking them out I say go for it you may find a new favorite place..
This is a fantastic spot. Great staff. Great drinks. Great food. Great prices. Awesome venue for music, dancing, or just enjoying an evening with friends. Very relaxing and open atmosphere. Highly recommend to check it out at least once.
Per-Covid this was the only club we would go dancing. It is like a family. Since Covid, they are not able to have club nights but they are serving food. They recently even opened up patio dining with heaters! They are very serious about Covid safety and all seating is respecting social distancing rules. If you are up from your table you will wear your mask. Also may I say that the food is great! Moms tacos are amazing and my new favorite!
Excellent atmosphere. Reminds me of Vieles Planet in Springfield IL. Most of the bartenders are great. We had a bad one last night that others picked up the slack for. Excellent drinks.
We had fun here! fast service, and good drinks with interesting names. they seem to have a lot of cool events happening on a regular basis like 90s night dance parties, and comedy nights
Love this play. If ur a rockabella, rocker, hipster, or goth person. This place can be for you. They have nice events, 2 pool tables, and a few games, with chill Vibe music in the back ground. Dont forget to try their special Burger.
Last night while in town I went with friends to a Burlesque show. As The show was about to start, someone named Kate stated she was the owner and began literally taking the chairs out from people who were disabled and elderly. She made a scene and ruined the evening. It was absolutely deplorable! I will NEVER recommend this place or visit again!! I would give negative stars x5 if I could! Save yourself a night out you want to forget. Disheartening, support local elsewhere.
No, if you want to see some real comedy go to a professional venue. The is a quasi lesbian hangout which is needed in a college town but unless that is what you are looking for then go to one of the dozens of other bars. As for the comedy, what a joke, no pun. Its like they enjoy playing comedians but fail to write anything good. Ive seen the same comics doing their same angry man hating white shamming material and they dont change a word as they must think that the nervous, awkward pity laughter is genuine laughs. Its like they are in some strange commune encouraging each other and not making any progress because they fail to put in the real work.As for the bar, the décor is cool but the atmosphere is awful unless you like it that way lol.
Amazing cocktails and friendly bartender! If you ever find yourself at the Surly Wench I highly recommend trying the “Metal Maiden” or “Salty Russian”! I will definitely be stopping in again the next time I’m in Tucson!
Favorite spot I found in the area, great music, pool, pinball (Elvira) and a handful of arcade games. Think they have live events too. Awesome service
We were very excited about the karaoke set up at the surly wench, there is a nice stage and microphone and sound system. But the MC, aka a small man with a ponytail, is extremely rude and antagonistic. This is the 2nd time we have gone with hopes of him being on better behavior but he obviously cannot control it. He demeans and antagonises anyone willing to sing a song he doesnt like. That is not a good business protocol. He also called me the first person of the year to be upset at his rude comments. He should change that to the first person of the year to have enough balls to say something about being upset about his rude comments. Its unprofessional, unwarranted, and basically unappreciated. We will not be returning. Good luck surly wench.
Ive always had a good time here. Good location, absolutely UN-pretentious, freaky and cool people and the occasional burlesque show! As someone else said, its got a dive feel but without the nasty creeper element.
Great place! Legit goth vibe. Excellent drinks. Chill crowd and staff. Killer music.Easily the coolest place Ive been out to in Tucson.
We had a great time at an 80s themed dance party. The staff was friendly, the bartenders knew their stuff, and the group of six of us enjoyed it thoroughly.
Bartender was friendly and asked if she made my drink sweet enough - never been asked before. However, bar itself was dirty, wet and never wiped down. Whole place looked dingy. Would not return.
The best place in Tucson quite literally for techno and Industrial Music. If you go on a night where you can catch DJ plastic disease, youre in for a treat. Highly recommend going if DJ Noir Tech or Mjito are also spinning. and last but certainly not least, if you go on a Saturday night make sure you asked for Jasmine at the bar, she has experience as a New York City bartender and she makes the best Hemingway Sidecar in the city, bar none. If youre not sure what a Hemingway sidecar is, dont worry she knows, as well as knowing many other eclectic and unusual drinks that most bartenders even if theyve been tending for a while have to look up. The other bartenders are great too, but she has really mad skills. As I move from Tucson to Washington DC now, I can honestly say shes the only bartender in the city that I will miss. All around a great bar to meet friends at or to dance to EBM, Darkwave, Synth, techno, 80s night, and they also do karaoke one night a week. Youll also find an older crowd here though a few college students do stop in from time to time, this is mostly 30 and 40 somethings and up. This is where youll find the crowd that waxes nostalgic for the 80s and 90s and where youll find the goths, the closet goths, the over-read and under-fed, and the blissfully odd and eclectic personalities of the Tucson Alt scene. Enjoy!
Paid a cover for 90s night and it was worth it...very busy, but bartenders are skilled and efficient.
The Surly Wench Pub epitomizes what gives Fourth Avenue so much soul and why I love it. Not only are the food and beverages ridiculously delicious, the Wench has created a safe space for anyone in the Tucson community to connect, make new friendships, or just dance. They regularly host a tempting mix of events including karaoke, comedy and dance nights. And yes, every Thursday there’s a tiki night. And of course I love the people. Everyone who works at the Wench looks out for everyone’s enjoyment and safety—sometimes that means doing things to code. Love the Wench and the owners there who make us all feel like family.
Slow day. The bartender was super cool. Had old 80s movies playing. Offered free pool, but I opted for vintage pinball and Tetris instead. Need to go back when things are popping!
I have loved this place since 2005. The owners care very much about thier customers, and are always trying to make your experience different from other bars. They offer things you cant see anywhere else! The Wench just kicks-ass! It is definitely one of the may things you HAVE TO SEE, when visiting Tucson! You wont be sorry!
First time there for karaoke 🎤😁😎 All I can say I had a blast 🥳
This weekend going out with family I went with friends to a Burlesque show. After spending hundreds of doars, as it was abig group of us and the show wa about to start, the owner Kate took a barstool from a family member that is disabled and told him to stand. She made a scene screaming and carring on. It was absolutely disgusting! I will NEVER recommend this place or visit again!! Anyone that discriminates against others is a POS. Please be aware and dont support this establishment.
The least normie bar on 4th (sorry IBTs the wench is better) its a place where a guy with a green beard usually doesnt stick out. They have good bar tenders decent selection of drinks. The music is usually interesting or they have a movie on the TV. They also have a great bar food menu that is actually priced like bar food (Im looking at you Congress). They have burlesque show the first Friday of the month. And I think karaoke on Wednesday.
This place is a blast and they always have fun events and shows. Never been too crowded, but its hardly empty either. One of my favorite bars downtown.
First time going last week and Karaoke was fun! I didnt drink but I had enough water and delicious food there. Yum!
Ah, the Surly Wench. Not exactly my scene but I will give them credit for trying. Ive seen them have a cover before which I think is a bit of a stretch for a semi-popular goth/metal scene but hey there are definitely people that like that stuff. I am into dance music and rap but I wont hate on the Surly Wench for going dark I was just thrown off by having to pay a cover. Its maybe more my friends fault actually. My rule for paying cover is it better be poppin with attractive people because Im shallow.
Went for alt/goth night. The music was great throwback to 80s, NIN, Souxie and the Banchees, Depeche Mode, etc. I am from out of town travelling solo, the crowd was not very engaging. The food is good. I got a black bean burger with tots. Its exactly what you would expect.
Without a doubt, the best bar in Tucson. Live music, djs, burlesque, fantastic staff, great food, awesome drinks, and so much more. Do yourself a favor and get there.
The Surly Wench has been one of my all time favorite bars since I first went there in Jan. of 2007. Ive always been welcomed with open arms (literally in almost all cases) and have always been treated fairly, regardless of my state of inebriation. LoL.
Fun place - very diverse crowd, not overly packed, friendly bar service, nice vibe. Enjoyed the 80s party!
Really cozy pub with air hockey and pool, lots of event, and interesting interior. Order the $4 double fister (whiskey + PBR) to get the night going (or to end it?). Will definitively come back to check out their fridays burlesque show.
Seriously bummed... we came for burlesque and the music was ridiculously loud. Maybe Im just old, but burlesque and bass dont exactly make sense with a crowd this small.Food was good and bar staff were great though. Just need to bring ear plugs.
This place is absolutely horrible. They discriminate against the disabled community, but only after you spend $100-$200 at their business. Then they will come up to you and publicly humiliate you for asking for a chair to sit down. When you write a bad review they either delete your comment, block you and then they write fake reviews to keep their business looking good. Dont support this place, they dont deserve to be running if they cant even accommodate to all customers needs. If you look at the recent reviews below mine, you can tell that their fake because theyre going against everything this review is saying.
This place is probably the bestest bar ever. Whether you wanna drink or watch a show, go here. I love the people and I love the place 🖤 do it people you wont be disappointed 🖤🖤🖤
I work a lot, which gives me a mighty thirst. Luckily the Surly Wench Pub, and staff have some of the best drink specials on 4th. With the constant flow of great performers, shows, dancing, live music like the lovely Tropical Beach, and other great musicians. Not to mention or over look all the amazing decor that adorns the walls of the Surly Wench. But all of that is over shadowed by their caring, attentive, positive, and out going staff. They make the Surly Wench a safe place for everyone. You only have to follow three rules. 1 Dont be a disrespectful or rude. 2 Dont be a creep. 3 Tip your Bartender. The only people who dont like The Surly Wench or its World Class Staff usually break one if not all of those rules. And that is too bad, because the Surly is da best. True Story. ....also, have you tried a Double Fister?
Wish they had a patio! Beautiful location in the heart of 4th ave. Friendly staff, great drinks, late night food options. For those with special dietary preferences, make sure to indicate that you dont want cheese or a bun if youre ordering theyre veg burger or taco options.
Great place strong drinks and great music. Love the vibe in the place too it feels as if youre on an old ship very cool. Would recommend to anyone who asks for a good bar
Came here just randomly. Cool set up and vibe when I was there. The bartender was friendly but there is $1 fee for each time you swipe your card so I would just keep the tab opened.
I really like the Surly Wench and make sure to stop by when Im in town. They have a pretty good tap selection and the service is always friendly. Bonus: first Friday burlesque shows.
My fave place to see friends, shows, comedy, pinball, pirates- the place has everything. Awesome staff, great drinks, yummy nachos and pinball to boot. Always welcoming, always awesome.
Great place to play a show . The sound was well mixed and a nice stage . Also pretty roomie with pool tables and booths as well . Also quick and friendly staff . No douche bouncer attitude so all around a nice place to stop in for a drink or a show
Best music selection and awesome bartenders. When they tell you something is spicy, though, you LISTEN. 😂
One of my favorite bars in Tucson.80s and 90s nights are the best.
FN love this place!!! Amazing drinking food, and the staff is awesome! Plus they have some great bands play. The Rumjacks played there which was sweet.
This place is the best bar in Tucson. So much inclusiveness and just a great vibe. Juniper definitely made my day with just her smile and great attitude.
Goth, new wave, industrial? Door guy was wearing a suit and tie. One of the bartenders was wearing a Hawaiian shirt. The bartender that looked appropriate to the venue was very ambivalent. She could not care less. Wtf. If you want a true goth, industrial, wherever experience, dont come here.
Surly Wench has everything you could want. Theres live music some nights,Ive also seen burlesque shows and stand up (not at the same time). A real treat is the film collection (try to guess whats playing)!
Most likely the coolest pub in Tucson. A few good memories of good service and food.
Awesome Bar to chill and play some pool. Music was pretty cool matching the theme for the night. Im from Austin, TX and was visiting for the weekend and it was a great time!
Best bar in Tucson, hands down! Though I havent lived in Tucson since 2007, I recently went back to visit some friends. Mandatory stop on a night out was the Surly Wench! Its expanded a little bit, but its got the same amazing vibe as it did when I left. Im still trying to find a place like it that has the same character here in San Diego. And did I mention burlesque shows? !!!!Consider yourselves lucky, because if I could box up this gem and bring it with me to San Diego I would! It is now and will always be my fav!BTW, the jukebox selection is seriously amazeballs!
Really cool atmosphere, fitness exactly what I was looking for. Drinks are pretty well priced and staff were all nice 😁 Will definitely being making this my regular spot.
Just left, we were the only people in the bar. The bartender was rude and preoccupied on her phone. The drinks were watered down. Cool name but we wont be going back. 👎
The best wench I ever had!
From the outside this place may seem a little rough, and if youre used to the kind of service that exalts you for no other reason than being a customer, you should probably keep walking. The drinks here are legit and if you dont have to hollar to make an order the staff isnt afraid to muddle. A big favorite here that you wont find done right anywhere else is a jamesons kami-kazi. Seriously, youve gota try it! Another one of the best features here are the burgers. My favorite is the salsa burger with mushrooms. Easily one of the best burgers in Tucson.
Very friendly bartender, reasonable beer prices, always good music playing. A welcome experience compared to the obnoxious din coming from all the other bars on 4th in Tucson.
DJ does a really good job. Everyone does their own thing. Good mix of people. Didnt eat here but food is an option. Didnt drink so dont know how expensive drinks are.
I love this place! Everytime someone new comes to visit me in Tucson (Im from the Northeast) I bring them to the Wench. If its karaoke, air hockey, pinball, or just a night of drinks; its always the Surly Wench!!!!
Great atmosphere, has a nice outside area, and the karaoke is so supportive and fun.
One of the best bars in Tucson. Local, authentic, and with a great vibe. Amazing staff, great music, and the perfect combination of things that make Tucson magical.
I had fun dancing on Fineline Revisited night, first and last Saturday of the month.
Jasmine is the best bartender here! You gotta try the hangover tots! Its fun to come here Wednesday nights and the first Friday of the month for Burlesque!
I stumbled onto this place while on a work trip and has THE BEST time!!! Good, cheap drinks, awesome horror themed atmosphere, and there was a burlesque show that evening!
Do not let the name fool you! True, there is a dark decor with stress on Elvira, skeletons, and taxidermy, but the people are really friendly and their burgers are something special. Loved it!
GOTH NIGHT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!Great specialty cocktails and pleasant bar staff.
Bar is played out. Who even goes to surly wench anymore is a common phrase with locals. Charging a cover on some days thats equal to a night club cover is a great way to lose customers. Avoid if you can. There are better bars on 4th.
The best events, wonderful staff, and amazing pub grub! My favorite place in Tucson! Highly recommended.
This was amazing!! The burlesque show was top notch and so much fun!!!
Tasty black bean burger and wonderful lemon, rosemary fries, plus a great juice drink at an outstanding price. Fun atmosphere and great service.
Decent venue to see a show. The place has a spooky vibe, cool decor, and dynamite chomp. Great stage!
Here for a birthday party. Had an 80s music theme for dancing. Good sound system. Kitchen open and bar busy. Good times!!
My friend and I went there to catch the burlesque show we heard so much about. It was a $10 charges the door, but that was
A staple of any visit to Tucson. Be patient when trying to get the attention of a bartender as they can be hard to flag down. Awesome selection of drinks and good prices.
Staff always so awesome! Music and DJS rock especially DJ Plastic Disease. My favorite place to go dancing. LOVE IT!!
Very fun judgement free zone!! Great spot for everyone! Alot of goths there, greatest night ever!
Awesome alternative experience. Seemed like everyone feels welcome here, any flavor of alternative or walk of life, even more normal style folks can feel welcome here as long as they comfortable with others and the ambience.
Perfect alt, goth, industria,l dark, moody bar & music venue. I want to gag it, stuff it in my trunk & take it home to Denver, teehee.
Always a good time! It’s a safe space you can comfortably go to alone, The staff is amazing!
Always have a fun time drinks are affordable and great atmosphere. Very down to earth crowd.
Great bar to go to any night of the week, the atmosphere is awesome and the food selection is even better. Always something fun going on here.
Love the place feels like home best drinks!!! I hear the shows are awesome will have to check it out.. The food is great!!!
Really great funky bar with great drinks, food, and staff!! A new go to place in downtown
Subculture bar with tons of history and different themed nights. Well definitely be back.
Believe this Pubs Setup and Offerings To its Patrons are Unique and Entertaining, a Must Visit When You Are IVisiting the Tucson Arizona Area and or Resides in the OLD PUEBLO.EnjoyBe Blessed
Good bar, good music, better than Congress with less people so you dont feel packed in. Bartenders are great, its the best have a couple drinks and dance bar on 4th...
My favorite bar in Tucson. Try the Cabin Fever maple whiskey in your next whiskey sour... I call them Waffle Sours - theyre delicious!
Theres a special event here pretty much every night of the year, the food and drinks are cheap and the dance parties are awesome. Highly recommend
Karaoke night on Thursdays. Fantastic bar food and great costumer service. Always feel very welcomed
Great attentive staff. Love the dark theme. There were people from all walks of life in there the last few times I have gone.
I love going to the place! Its one of my favorite spots on Fourth Avenue. Great music and the staff are awesome!
Best Vodka Sour Ive ever had here...They dont use the standard bar-fare sour ... so its not a tart over sugared mess.
The wench is a great spot to drink and maybe checkout whatever shows are going on. If youre trying to kickstart the night i would recommend you get a few double fisters!
Stop in here to grab a bite to eat. The bar well stocked, the staff was friendly. The food was good and fairly priced. Would come back again.
Bartenders are nice. The energy environment feel like a relaxing hang out. Cant wait for them to reopen
Went last night - bartenders were slow and didnt listen. They got several food and drink orders wrong and then insisted that I misspoke. Wont be returning.
Yummy food and fun atmosphere. More mature bar off 4th with interesting people and better music. Pinball machine!!!!!
Unique bar and the food is pretty darn good as well. Also the regular events make it a go to for a fun night out!
Always my first go to! Music is always amazing to dance to, people are beautifully eclectic, and drinks are always on point.
The vibe is always chill and the bartenders are very attentive. Love the double fister and the old movie that play.
Very neat place! Good price for drinks, has a unique style and vibe. Friendly and nice employees.
One of my favorite bars. More expensive but still cheap. Great for Goths and more for the alternative crowd. Youll never see a college bro here.
Cool spot on the 4th Street strip. Younger crowd. Cheap beer/shot specials. They had a tv playing Elvira which was fun to watch.
Moved away from Tucson 5 years ago, happy to see one of my favourite dives still going strong. Thank you!
Very Rude experienceI was on 4th av for trick or treat with my kids this place refused to let me use their restoom because i dont drink alcohol theirfore i wasnt a paying customer they had 1 person in their establishment and i hope this gets them closed down i am also disabled i just dont understand why people are so rude .
Its such a cool spot. The drinks, food, and vibes are awesome.
Erin was my bartender was definitely great. She treated me well and with respect and had a great deal of knowledge.
Good place to hang out. Staff wasnt as salty as they used to be back in the day ;). Solid beer prices.
A great jukebox, tasty kitchen, amazing atmosphere, some of the best events in town, and a $4 dollsr PBR and a shot make this bar a Tucson staple.
Best place to hang out, drink, dance, and spend time with awesome people. The staff is wonderful and I love them.
Love me a beer and shot of whiskey for 5 bucks! Love the dark, dim vibe. Reminds me of my emo days.
