NO DO NOT DRAG BRUNCH HERE. Thebuffet was out of food before they served the whole room and they let people go back for seconds before they served the room. And, the service and performance are equally unprepared and bad. Absolutely avoid this place. Back of house has no clue on how to prepare for a group this size and the service staff doesnt actually care. Total rip off.

Nellie’s Drag Brunch remains one of the craziest, silliest and fun days we’ve shared as a family. It was our first drag show ever and we had a ball. The buffet was nice but the desserts and drinks were very good. But that’s not the main event anyway is it? THE PERFORMANCES, oh my gosh. Great music and fantastic, energetic performances! There were lots of brides/birthdays & other celebrations happening and the performers made sure to highlight every last one. In addition to talented, they were so kind. Thank you to Deja & crew for a wonderful day out. Doug, you have an incredible bar. If you’re in NW DC, dont miss this one.

I never leave negative reviews, [check my history] but $35 ( 20%) tip. For a high noon and a frozen poured drink is insane. I would have stayed for the food and atmosphere but be careful as prices are out of control. I highly recommend the dirty goose across the street. Great prices and amazing bar tenders. Truly disappointed to leave a negative review 😪

Here’s the deal (in my opinion). You don’t go to drag show brunch for food. You go to be entertained. And these queens are fabulous. The food was perfectly mediocre. Protein was generally over cooked (I had pork chop and meatballs), veg was over cooked and stringy (asparagus). Carbs were pretty good (pasta salad, mashers, Mac and cheese). Dessert was good (banana pudding). Service wasn’t bad. Had to ask for water 4 times and had to wait a bit for drinks. But all of that said, I am 100% coming back. The show was great!! I LOVED the music. And some of the shenanigans were hysterical. And the drinks were STRONG (just the way I like them)! I had the Octopussy (because how could you pass that up) and it was tasty!!!!😂. Nellie’s is also very easy to get to from the metro station.

Trivia at Nellie’s has become my favorite part of the week!! Johnny the bartender makes the best drinks and has the most inviting personality! The Out of Bounds trivia team always keeps us guessing with their challenging and entertaining questions! Nellie’s is an absolute must on Wednesday nights :)

Had a birthday brunch on 8-4-24. Most amazing entertainment, great food, and great host. They accommodated my family member with a disability, staff is really amazing.. looking forward to another returning.

My friend and I went to a Taylor Swift night at Nellie’s last night, and we were very disappointed. The bartenders were nice, but the DJ played very few Taylor Swift songs. When he did play her songs, he would repeat the same ones. I understand that you have a variety of people going to the bar, but don’t call it a Taylor Swift night if you are only going to play a couple of her songs.

Very fun and lively queer bar on U-Street! My friends and I love going to this spot and the service is always so nice. If you’re looking for a LGBTQ+ bar to have drinks and a good time with friends - this is the spot!

Today!!! I attended with my cousin to the Drag Brunch at 1. We had a blast!!! With the bartender upstairs to the transition downstairs for the food and Mistress of Ceremonies to the performers. It was absolutely wonderful. I WILL be back. Such a wonderful experience.

Nellie’s has become a beloved Wednesday evening tradition all thanks to Johnny the bartender, as well as the amazing crew at Out of Bounds Trivia!! My partner and I always feel at home with how we’re treated, with every moment being filled with laughs and good memories. A Wednesday without Nellie’s just doesn’t sound right anymore. Felt nice being profiled at the door even though they claim all are welcome.Bouncer thought I had a police department hat on. Turns out if he actually knew how to read he would have seen that it was actually an auto racing hat.He also couldnt help but make a comment about me promising not to shoot him. He should be fired for that. But he wont be.

Saw my receipts after a night out and realized the bartenders added an additional tip. They already get an automatic tip. Make sure you watch your receipts. Now I have to waste my time disputing the charge. The whole place is unnecessary and ghetto.

Nellies is always a good time but they r always forcefully putting some of the girls out. The happy hour drinks r strong and the music is good. We got the wings and fries which of the three flavors(Buffalo bbq n plain) we got it was tasty. There was a long line inside to get to the upstairs patio. We decided to just stay downstairs since it wasn’t a birthday or a special occasion.They have something every nite sunday is drag brunch which is great entertainment(bingo game and performances) and good food.

Less than a week ago, I visited your establishment with a friend, and we encountered an issue involving one of your bartenders. The problem arose when your POS system temporarily failed. Despite this, two other customers were awaiting their drink purchases. Upon the bartenders request to swipe my friends card for the third time, my friend expressed his discomfort, given the card had already been swiped multiple times. Reacting unprofessionally, the bartender forcefully took the drink from my friend and discarded it, accusing him of seeking a free drink. This response was both unethical and unprofessional. In such situations, seeking assistance from a supervisor would have been more appropriate.Subsequently, the bartender summoned security. We later discussed the incident with your management team, which, disappointingly, did not offer a satisfactory resolution or handle the situation any better, echoing the accusation of seeking a free drink. Rather than offering an apology or a complimentary drink as a gesture of goodwill, the situation was left unresolved. Following this, my friend reached out to the owner of the business to discuss our experience but has yet to receive a callback.This incident is particularly disheartening given my history of patronage at your establishment, which has been reputable for years. Such treatment is unacceptable, and I hope you will address this matter accordingly.

Went here last night. They randomly started charging $20 to get in. They were so packed that you could not even budge in this place. Also wayyy too many people outside. I’m 100 percent sure that the amount of people inside was unsafe. Also, hire people that aren’t rude af to work the door.

They changed thier show time last minute, then expected us to be grateful.I have had blast after blast here, and thats why I decided to have my 45th here. Me and 8 others bought tickets weeks ago for the 14th of April 11:00 to 1:00 show.Two days before, the time has just changed in eventbrite. No one in my party, including myself, can go later because of other predetermined plans happening in the afternoon. Good news is I can get my money back. Bad news is I dont get the party of my dreams.The worst part is that I stead of apologizing, the email was basically You should thank us for this inconvenience you lucky duck! We screwed your plans because we were thinking of you! Teehee!

I visited Nellis in DC tonight around 12:40 AM, and unfortunately, I had a very disappointing and concerning encounter with the security staff. One of the security guards at the back entrance pushed me and falsely claimed that I had pushed him, which was completely untrue and unacceptable.Moreover, the demeanor of the staff at this establishment was overall unwelcoming and disrespectful. The lady at the front door displayed rudeness towards patrons, and the other security guard at the back entrance, who lied about the incident, was extremely hostile and unprofessional.As a newcomer to the area, this experience has left me feeling unsafe and unwelcome in this environment. It is crucial for establishments like this to carefully monitor their staff and ensure that they treat all patrons with respect and professionalism.I sincerely hope that management takes this feedback seriously and implements measures to improve the behavior and conduct of their security personnel. Everyone deserves to feel safe and respected in public spaces, especially when dealing with individuals in positions of authority.I urge others to be cautious when visiting this location until appropriate actions are taken to address these concerning issues.-

Stumbled upon Nellie’s Wednesday Night trivia one day with my friends and it has been a weekly staple for us since! The hosts are super fun, the crowd super encouraging and the prizes for winning are super sweet. Trivia is 7:30 and 8:30 on Wed (they do 2 rounds!). Johnny usually works Wednesday night trivias, but if not, make sure to ask for him — he’s super cool and sweeet!

Christian is the BEST Bartender EVER! Drinks are top tier and service is always with a smile! Christian is a gem to this establishment.

I’ve had one of the worst experiences here this past Saturday. The POS system upstairs stopped working which lead to my card being swiped multiple times. After the third time, I no longer felt comfortable with having it swiped again. The bartender then snatches my drink and calls security as if I was in the wrong for my discomfort. This has become a very hostile environment for no good reason. I then spoke to a “manager” on duty and got accused of trying to receive a free drink. I’ve been to this bar for years and have paid for every drink I’ve ever received along with additional tips. I’ve tried to contact another manager or the owner via phone and have not heard back. It is very disappointing to no longer want to return to a place I’ve had many memories and supported for over a decade.

I was let in the door with a stamp only to be denied entry. Lacking communication among staff. I think the person was threatened by me (5’10 masc denied by 5 foot masc). Can’t say for sure but I don’t have another explanation since I was let in the door and stamped just to be turned away. I’ve seen them turn away a lot of mascs it’s a trend.

I went to Nellie’s on Sunday May 26,2024. As I waited my turn in line to enter, the woman who was security of the door was very rude and made homophobic comments. But the big problem was how they allow so many people inside when the building isn’t that big to begin with. It was very unsafe and unethical. I will never ever come to this establishment ever again.

Came for Trivia which was fun, but Johnny made the whole experience a lot better! I really enjoyed it here.

It’s what you expect when you go to a popular LGBTQ+ bar. Loads of people and hard to move around. The security at the front were straight to the point. There is no entry fee so that’s cool. Drinks are a tad bit on the expensive side but they weren’t too watered down. The music definitely had us dancing non stop.I do think there needs to be a few more fans upstairs, I can see a few people including myself on the verge of a heatstroke.Overall it was a fun experience if you like a crowd.

Just went here for the first time a few minutes ago and had to leave immediately for fear of my safety. There were two incompetent security guards on 1/27/24 at approximately 11:20pm. The larger/taller one threatened to snap my neck with my bag because I, among all the other people who were annoyed waiting in the rain, were getting annoyed with them taking their precious time to do their job. I’m a 5’2 woman, who went there sober and wanting to have a fun time with my friends. Never again. People like that are why the crime/murder rates are so high in this city. I can almost guarantee that if we cross paths again, he’ll do the unthinkable.

Average entertainment.They are based on how big your group is. We went with big group. They tell you they are paid with tips up front even when if you are waited on last. They will collect all their tips after 3 seconds of dancing then dance for 5 seconds more. Tip collecting will take up all their performance. Some will only walk around collecting all their tips and lip sing. Thats all.They say come early for bunch at 1 but youll wont eat till 3pm.Brunch paid $60 per person. Food was average but the worst thing happened, they ran out of food so quickly.Drinks pretty pricy but lots of options. Again entertainment was average.I give 2 stars for the only girl who preformed with hype music till the end. She didnt touch any of her tips till her performance was over like a professional performer. The crowd went wild for her.

I walked in trying to sneakily use the bathroom but someone was there pestering me about getting a drink. I don’t drink but I also don’t know drinks. I spoke to her about all the different types of drinks. She was polite, strong, but also very helpful. I learned that cognac is okay. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Would come again if I didn’t need to pee.

I was visiting DC and saw good reviews so decided to give this LGBTQ friendly place a try. If I could leave ZERO stars I would. I went in around 7pm looking for a bite to eat and have a few drinks. Bartender told me I could sit anywhere. So I sat next to bar. Bartender didn’t ask me what I wanted to drink nor gave me a menu or told me how to access menu if it was electronic. Most awkward and wired and uncomfortable 10 minutes of my life! Can u imagine sitting in an empty sports bar and the bartender literally avoiding to serve you?!? I hate to say race was a possible factor but that’s only thing I can think of. I DO NOT recommend!!! Dirty Goose across the street much better for drink and they can recommend better places for food!!!! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS!!!!! They don’t deserve your money!!!!

In terms of entertainment its a good place and the drinks were good. The drinks were pricey and I wasnt a fan of their business practices. They tell you the price of the drinks than give you the authorization slip to sign over the check. It wasnt until i had already paid and tipped did I see that gratuity was included on the itemized check. I did not see signs or anything on the menú showing that gratuity is included. While it was an oversight on my part i felt it was sneakers on theirs.

Berny is the best bartender I’ve met in DC

Its my first time doing the party scene in Washington and I must say that this place gave me what I needed. Since Im visiting from Nyc my friend decided to bring me here. The atmosphere for me personally was very inviting all the way from the staff to my fellow patrons. I didnt get a chance to order food however the drinks were strong and very on point. When I come back to DC I definitely have to dive into the full experience!!

I had so much fun! I think I was here for 6 hrs and didnt even realize it!!! That is how much fun I had. Johnny the bartender was the best! HIS DRINKS were epic! The music was on point, the crowd was on point. The outside deck was decent too bc I got hot from dancing all night and needed some air! LOVED IT will def be back

Went there for one of the drag brunches.When you arrive, you start off upstairs in the bar, which has outside areas to stand.Then they bring you down in groups from big to small.Once downstairs, there are instructions and mimosas/blood Marys for all. You can also buy regular drinks on the menu and pay for those separately.Then they send you to the buffet line table by table--family reunion style! The food was on point! A good availability of vegetarian options, which was dope.The show was really entertaining and engaging! I had a great time!

I was really looking forward to this place and it was a complete let down. One of the bartenders was so rude and nasty. Not only did he charge us for top shelf when we wanted the drink special. They tried to tell us there were no drink specials on Saturday when the website clearly says $6 cocktails from 5pm to 11pm. They then got our food order wrong, promised us a free round of drinks for the inconvenience, and then charged us for the free round. Totally disappointed and never coming back again. If I could give zero stars, I would.

Absolutely wonderful space, people, atmosphere, drinks were all phenomenal! Only issue is the line outside cause everybody wanna be there, if you wanna come, come at 9 and youll have a great time!!

I haven’t patronized this bar In years due to the racism they towards people of color and nothing has changed I recently went and the bartender who was Spanish Jean after my friend thinking he was running out on a tab but just went to smoke a cigarette no one put our order in when we ordered food held our card and when asked where is our food we waited for the bartender stayed o thought y’all didn’t want food how did you think that when. Your holding our card and ran after my friend thinking he was leaving manager came over and didn’t give us a problem like we was in fault. I suggest if your African American and you want to enjoy yourself at a gay bar go to number 9 or fireplace this place is not for us they expect the worse from us. I will never go back and I only went to celebrate my friend. Nellies is racist establishment.

Food wasn’t too bad but all of our orders were wrong and the seating is a little disorganized if you go after 4 PM. We were shuffled around and ended up eating standing up. The music selection was good and the energy was very fun.

I was a little confused by the ID check being at the tables inside for a restaurant/bar, and that particular setup felt very uninviting. I went here with my partner, who is 57 years old, and he happened to forget his ID. We were denied entry because of this and were forced to take our business elsewhere (thankfully). We went to a gay bar nearby and had no problems gaining entry, no further issues, and enjoyed ourselves immensely. We will not be returning here.

Walked around DC, in and out of restaurants and bars, until we came from Nellie’s. We were welcomed with generous poor from Edwin. High ceilings and seating on the first floor, second floor was filled to the brim with DC’s Best Dressed. Escaped the heat of the dance floor onto a perfectly placed outdoor balcony, ideal for people watching. Again, Edwin stole my heart.

Thank you EdwinNew to DC Even on a rainy day he has been amazing and informational I recommend that he should be NELLYS SPORTS BAR full time bartender 7 days a week supper helpful and kind love the drinks keep it up guys love it here already plus the extra security I fill super safe.

Review is for drag brunch: loved the queens, my friends and I had a great time. But…the tickets insisted we get there by 10:45…no one let us in, doors locked until 11:10. We only got one plate of food each. I legit left hungry (and I’m small). Staff acts like you have time to get food whenever, you don’t. And we were kicked out by 12:50…less than two hours for $57 entry tickets?! No honey

This review is for the drag brunch only. A few days ago, my bestie (first time at a drag brunch) and I traveled here for a drag brunch. When we arrived around 1 p.m., there was a rope blocking the brunch buffet so our only option was to walk upstairs (the buffet was not ready yet). Once we got upstairs, my friend and I grabbed a table and sat down. When my friend came back after getting a drink, I asked if she got the complimentary one included in our ticket price and she was told that we would get that downstairs. Then around 2 p.m., one of the queens walked around & started scanning tickets in order of the largest party size (15 people) and the parties were seated downstairs. My friend and I saw the writing on the wall (that we would probably be one of the last tables since we were a party of 2) so thankfully we met 2 other sweet girls and formed an alliance. We were seated next. Even though all the windows were open (on both floors) and fans were blowing, it was hot! Thankfully I brought my fan which helped a little. When we got downstairs, it was cramped, crowded, & dreadful because of the humidity. Shortly after, they opened up the buffet and went table by table. Then around 2:55, it was announced that they would start shortly (this was not what I expected since I had to be at the train station by 5 p.m., but it all worked out in the end). The food was pretty good, but since it was sweltering I didnt have much appetite. Now for the best part of the brunch: the queens. They were amazingly talented and I gave them as much money as I responsibly could. Its certainly not their fault that the logistics, communication, and organization were non-existent. My friend enjoyed her first drag brunch which is all that really matters to me, but I highly doubt that I will ever come back again in the summer.

The servers are great, but the DJ was AWFUL the last few times weve been there and only plays slow hip-hop. As a result, theres really no dancing and it kills the vibe. When we went a few years ago, it was an awesome place to dance to upbeat pop tracks. If youre looking for a fun, upbeat club, look elsewhere.

Strong drinks and great atmosphere! I’ve never had a bad time here. Definitely go if you haven’t already and make sure you go upstairs.

Friendly, energetic, ok service! Wish it was larger in square footage. A little to cozy for me. VERY rustic decor. BUT, a nice experience. Decent food.

Such a fun atmosphere! Stopped by on a Friday night and loved how the rooftop turned into a dance floor. The DJ was great! Our server Anya recommended great drinks and also gave us tips on where we should go around DC! She made our visit great, we loved our time at Nellie’s!
