Cool band playing tonight on a Wednesday, the crowd can hang, I liked the selections the band played and the popcorn was fantastic and free!! however the whole thing was just too loud for the venue. Sound guy wasn’t at the board most of the time. They could use a shield for the drummer, tone down the keys and the vocals. I would add a lot more sound proofing. With the cover I paid I would have liked to stay longer but my ears were ringing from the volume. Would love to see how they can improve the space as a venue particularly.
Here in Austin on vacation, and I have a former coworker who lives here and he wanted to take me to some live music. I have never been to a hole in the wall lounge and I admit when we pulled up I was a bit skeptical because parking lot was dark, its literally like behind an abandoned building and if I was alone Id prob bypass it lol. But once we got inside, it was a vibe. Those musicians were so amazing! Truly put their heart and soul in it. And it was jam session now so anyone in the audience who was a musician could sign up and play wjth the band. Let me tell u, everyone was getting down with the get down! Lol. I had the time of my life
Live Music venue! Harks back to old Austin! You are missing world class entertainers like Brian Scartocci on a rotating set of top notch musicians in an intimate grungy get-your-blues-here setting. Full bar with serious cocktails. We’ve enjoyed EVERY time we’ve been at the Skylark Lounge. My friends know what this endorsement means…
One star lost because a place this busy should have a dedicated busser. Tables shouldn’t be left dirty for extended period of times. Another star lost for the leaky AC unit flooding the seat/booths up front. Did not feel comfortable eating or drinking here. One good note is that the music and energy was dope!
This place is very laid back, and the folks working there are extremely courteous. Drinks are great for the price, and the music experience is amazing. The parking is not great, though. Get there early if you want a spot.
You’ve heard of a dive bar, but never a dive bar with live music and excellent jazz at that have you? I went with a friend from New York, who is not into such honky-tonk kind of places we went into the back, which has old gasoline, stand signs and metal from rooftops and all sorts of Bricker brackand she actually really liked it. Phil is terrific as all the people who work here and the music was just spot on. I don’t know why I haven’t been here before but I’m definitely going to go again it’s an original.
I thoroughly enjoyed RITUALs performance 🙌🏾 I always look forward coming on a Wednesday to vibe to great tunes by Butter & Jam. The Thursday Funk, Blues & Open Jam with Goldie Pipes is always a great time as well. Highly recommend the live music, food and uplifting environment. Ive met some dope local artists here too! Excellent place for musicians to network.
Amazing experience at Skylark... this place is unsuspecting and I almost passed it by upon arrival but went inside just the same upon meeting the pianiston his way in. So glad I did. Mary, the one of owners introduced herself to me and spent time chatting for a while. She is also in charge of booking the music acts and does a phenomenal job! This folks have true talent and everyone there has an absolute appreciation for the music. There is a beautiful patio out back (also through a very unsuspecting door under a faded patio sign by the stage. Met some great people on the patio and christened the new outdoor bar! Theyve got picnic tables and even a fire pit.Mary even went so far as to chase me down in the parking lot as I was leaving to make sure I had gotten a koozy!! Super nice. Thanks Mary!If youre looking for something authentic with great people, go to Skylark.
Blues bar. We had a beer and listened to a few songs. They came to our table and wanted $10 if we stayed so we left. Music was pretty good.Update to owner: I have added pictures that I took while there on July 27th. We arrived at 5:00 pm. Please advise if this was your place. It was the bartender that came to our table and asked for the money. This place has so much potential, but it would be so much better if bartenders would interact in a friendly way with customers.
Every person I tell this place about thanks me over and over. This is what ATX is all about. Great people, music, eclectic crowd and celebrating life.
Great vibe, super crowd and always good live music
Funky place with good music. An old Austin throwback. Free popcorn, no other food.
Soul man Soul and the band had the place rocking and the bartenders were awesome
Your typical dive bar. Decor was really fun, music was lovely. Margarita was decent.
I like the funky outdoor area with mismatched lawn furniture and random lawn ornaments. Too bad I didnt get pictures of it. They was even a very large TV (more than 50 inches) outside helping make it cozy and casual. The wall around the outdoor area looks like it was made from salvaged wood and signs and such. Its a classic southern space.
Very chill lounge . Always exceptional service, Phil the manager is always very attentive and has done a phenomenal job with the place since he has been managing. The food is even is better way better! Only complaint is that I wished they stayed open till 2 am, being an industry worker i dont get to enjoy this hidden gem as much as I would like to .
One of the premiere spots for live music in Austin, nicely tucked away in an unassuming locale. It’s not especially wallet friendly, (if you don’t get there early you’ll pay a 10 dollar cover) but the performers and ambience make it worth shelling out. Funk and soul, dancing, and a top-flight patio. You oughtta check it out.
We have gone to the Skylark on and off for years. Last nights show with James Speer was fantastic. One of the best I have ever heard in Austin and we go to many venues. Initially, there were just a few of us -yet he played like he was putting on a concert at Carnegie Hall. His drummer was also great, and they played well together. It was fun to see the Skylark lit up like that again and they have made various improvements in the last couple of years. We will be back and we will also look for James Speer.
Amazing Austin legendary musicians exclamation point and the sound guy was awesome
Amazing people, great vibe and music. Had a wonderful time
Soul Man Sam sang Hole in the Wall last night, which describes The Skylark Lounge, but in a good way. What a great little joint with a friendly, awesome atmosphere. We found this place because some of the fancier places were sold out, but you just show up to the Skylark and pay a low cover. What a lucky break, because we had the greatest time.
Phenomenal live soul, blues, funk performances. Consistently great sound. Parking is about right for the size of the club but adjacent merchants are tolerant.Booths, high top tables, small dance floor, XXL back yard with tables & seating.Full bar, impressive slate of draft beers & ales,. Free ice water.Outstanding kitchen.Im there most Saturdays, every Sunday for Soul Man Sam and frequent special guests.I usually tip the soundman because no matter where I am in the club I can hear everything.
Places like this are so needed in our community! BUTTER & JAM! Where have you been all my life🙌 How did I not know we had LIVE MUSIC going on every Wednesday night right here in ATX?!?! Thoroughly enjoyed myself 💯 All of the amazing artists/musicians there were a total DELIGHT! Super friendly staff. Come enjoy the vibes✨
Austin treasure. Soul Man Sam Sundays are the perfect weekends end
Intimate. Casual. Great music. Small cover. The performers love when you dance in their small dance area. Been there twice this week. Left happy each time.
We stumbled upon a true Austin bar looking for live music on the east side... Unassuming, reasonable cover, and not too crowded... until the band starts. We had the pleasure of seeing Erica Young, The Voice of Erica and her show absolutely crushed it. Funk music to get you on the dance floor with a very talented band. Erica could obviously sing, but her banter between songs was the best.Great drinks by the bartenders. Had a perfect michelada.Even the patrons were great. We absolutely adored meeting Vernon and sitting with him at the best seat in the house.I seriously cant wait to go back and I havent felt that way about a bar in a long time.
Incredible funk jam session on a Thursday night. Great crowd, beer and atmosphere. Not 100% sure on accessibility, but sure a wheelchair could make it with assistance. No idea on washrooms. Unsurprisingly this is a LOUD venue so be careful with service dogs. Will definitely be going back!
Some of the best jam/blues music in Texas. I saw butter and jam play there, which they do. Very cultural vibe. Great for listening and dancing, and if youre a skilled musician you might even get to join in the fun. DJ on the back patio. No draft beers, but they have bottles and it works out pretty okay on price. They also have a couple food items that are quite delicious. Maybe try the chicken basket?
Blues all night long. Quintessential Austin vibes.
You haven’t lived in Austin till you’ve caught a Soul Man Sam show.
Probably the coolest dive bar and music venue in Austin.
A friend an I wanted to hear some music and do something new on a Saturday night. I have been hearing great things about Skylar Lounge so we went. I will say its in a odd location and looks a little sketchy from the outside but we had a great time. We got there a little before the first act went on (a suggestion so we could get a seat) and we got a parking space up front (they have someone directing for parking - and he was great). Went in and found a booth and got a drink. They have great prices and the bartenders were wonderful. Loved the live music, vide and crowd! We were super hungry and got food from the spot inside (random hole in the wall - by the pool table). Id eat beforehand and not eat there. It was the most plain/basic fried chicken sandwich ever.I cant wait to go back for more shows!
Love this little joint with a piece of History attached to it great place to listen to The Blues and other great musicians on certain nights. Its definitely a place I would go back again and again! Its a dive what is the first group of people when did the first group of music that I loved everybody was friendly and I could have stayed all night. It was a really fun experience and anybody who goes to Austin needs to experience this place and the great Music City of Austin
Be careful pulling into the parking lot, since there are some large pot holes. I came in around 8:00 p.m., on a Sunday night.Inside the Skylark Lounge it is dark, with interesting paintings on the wall. The place looks much better on the inside. The Mens Bathroom has only one working urinal. The pool table looks like it has been played a million times. The back patio is a large sitting area. The long wooden tables have pillows to sit on.The bartenders I observed, enjoy providing good drink and cocktail service, and also get their dance on.I saw Blues music for the first time live !!! Soul Man Sam (Austin Legend), and his band performed cover songs and spontaneous blues riffing. Another Man in Sams band is a great R&B singer.Come here early Sunday Nights and you will not bedisappointed in the live Blues talent !!!
Man this place is such a gem!! The ambience, music, service .. all of it was awesome - perfect actually!! The location seemed kind of shady but once I got inside I didnt have a care in the world. Its super dive-y and there is barely enough seating to hold everyone so you will most likely end up standing if you get there on the later side. Weekends are packed. We went on a Sunday and it was super duper packed! Dont worry though cuz if you cant find a table then youll just end up dancing more and having more fun!! I cant wait to go back and check out all the different bands that play here.Drink prices were decent. Lighting inside is super dark inside so watch your step! Parking is very limited and if you are handicapped then you must tell the people there so they can move cones around to make space for you.
Great band!!! Butter N Jam plays every Wednesday night. Been enjoying them for years and they never disappoint. Thanks Phil and all for making this place feel like home. Skylark is definitely my Cheers, where everybody knows your name.
Skylark? Campy, Live Music and Always FUN. 🍸🍸
Dive bar/lounge, but this is definitely a compliment. Very low key cool atmosphere. Saw Margaret Wright on a Friday and she was so cute. Worth a trip if you like dive bars with live music. Also a nice local beer selection for this type of place.
This place is just amazing in every way. Great vibe, great drinks, great food & GREAT music (Butter & Jam). Phil was awesome. Definitely 5 stars. Highly recommend
Wonderful experience. We are visiting from Florida and found this place by accident. Loved everything about it...a funky dive bar is the description online and that fits. The band, the Soul Supporters are top notch. Definitely go see them at Skylark.
Classic dive bar, with great live music, reasonable prices and a back patio with fire pit.
Blues, Jazz & Old school music is what makes this dive of a place so special and unique. This place has a very cosy, warm atmosphere that makes you feel like you know everyone. The first time I drove up to this place I thought I was lost. Your Not..... Drinks are very reasonably priced. This gem of a place make you feel welcomed.
I absolutely love this juke joint, dive bar because they bring in the best performers for authentic feel good music! The drinks are affordable, the cover charge is affordable, the bands pass a tip bucket to offset their costs. Parking fills up fast, get there early. Dirt parking lot and uneven so use caution in the dark. Venue attended by long time locals who are up in age and younger generations who don’t always respect the music and stay quiet during a performance, but everyone gets along beautifully. The venue owners are gems!
Awesome little hidden gem in Austin! We came on a Monday night. It was very laidback with a great band playing and lots of spots to sit. Would definitely recommend checking it out if you’re looking for a place to go in the neighbourhood.
Great place to listen to blues music! Great performers!! Soulman Sam (John Washington) and the band are very entertaining! Also, Brown Sugar ...she is very good as well. My husband and I enjoy going when we visit Austin. Voted best blues place in the nation!!👍
Only our second time but already cant wait to go back. Had a great time with friends tonight. My first time there was for my anniversary and my wife and I had an amazing experience. Weve decided that is our spot going forward.Whether its just us as a couple or with friends like tonight, we will be regulars at this wonderful establishment.
Cant believe I just found out about this place. My new favorite for live music. It can get really crowded and parking can be a pain at times, but so worth it. Excellent outside patio area with a bar that is sometimes open, although I wish they would pipe the live music from inside onto the patio area. Drinks are reasonable and they serve beer and liquor.
Great bluesy, soulful atmosphere. Drinks are moderately priced, the music is always amazing, and theres even a kitchen serving up snacks. My only qualm is that the parking is a little horrendous, but would highly recommend.
Hardcore dive bar. Great dark atmosphere. Booths, tables, full bar, and rank piss smelly restrooms. On the other hand, they book great live blues acts. I like this place, but its not a date spot unless your partner is raunchy enough to fart in front of you. I gave it a 5/5 because of the bartender, dim lighting, and music.
This is a great place full of character. Its a dark fun lounge with great music. Weve always had a great time here. The parking can be challenging just like any popular place in Austin.
I always enjoy the live music 🎶
The best blues dive bar anywhere! it’s a little hard to find tucked away on airport blvd in east Austin. It has a rich history of black culture.
My wife and I stopped by the other night with some friends, we a both from Austin, born and raised and had a great time, and were even greeted by the owner and asked to please come back! We will be soon!Great Austin bar with great live music, gives you a feel for what Austin is all about!
Example of old, weird, funky Austin. Soul Man Sam is a great singer and Willy D great on the saxophone. Also the fried chicken is homemade and really good, not some pre frozen Tyson tenders
I absolutely love this neighborhood bar. Its down to earth, great blues and jazz music, delicious food, and lat but not least are the most wonderfully efficient, kind, and joyful staff I have ever met. I would highly recommend The Skylark Lounge to anyone looking to have a great night out.
Good experience, just no AC in the building
This place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights is awesome!. Dead center EAST AUSTIN. Dont let that keep you from going. The name has changed over the years, the crowd is a little more hipster, but it IS Old school rhythm and blues. Original building, so nothing fancy, small dance floor so you dance nice and close! Look for the arrow sign!
Great Place to catch live music.
Fun bar with a laid back vibe. The outdoor patio is nice. We expected to hear blues but Soul Man Sam was covering older hits with a blues vibe and not really blues. Reasonable priced drinks and grub.
Ive been here 15 minutes and its already become my favorite Austin bar. The atmosphere is wonderful, staff is friendly, and right now Margaret Wright is playing; perfect. The patio is eclectic and relaxing. Just come here, ok? You wont regret it.
Wonderful venue for Blues, Soul, and Jazz. One of the best in Austin. You have to see Birdlegg here sometime- hes great in any venue, but this is his best show. I come here on random nights too, its always a good time.
They are playing characters there and absolutely trying to roofie people.I am positive that if we had one more drink, something bad was about to happen. And thats why they rear ended our vehicle on the way out.I have pictures and prove me wrong.I was never cut off,our tab was 66.00 and I bought their scam girl a drink or two.I have pictures of where the guy in the grey suv hit us.
Dont be discouraged by the outward appearance of what looks like an old yellow shed ( There is more to the structure that appears when you turn into the parking lot.) This place has been around for many years but thats one of the things that makes it unique. Its a intimate setting where you can enjoy some wonderful and very talented blues musicians and singers! We loved seeing Blues Boy Hubbard and The East Side Kings with TT Brown and also Miss Lavelle White! These featured artists are in their eighties and have been entertaining audiences for many decades. It was a real treat to have been able to experience seeing them live! Besides the great music, the owners Johnny and Mary Ellen are very special people that will treat you like you are part of their family or old friends! They are very warm and hospitable and will make you feel right at home. All of the staff are very nice and are very accommodating as well. The drinks are very reasonable and the pizza is very good made with high quality ingredients. I have worked in the hotel food and beverage industry for many years and I was very impressed with the owners attention to detail and dedication! Dont miss going to this special place!
Oh my!! I absolutely loved this place! Soul man Sam and his band were Amazing!! I went with a group of eight and we had a blast! Definitely worth going if you want a tru blues experience!! I even got to get on stage to sing a blues songs with them! Drinks were good and they have a llittle food place in the back that suprisenly served really good food. The fish and shrimp was like a burst of new Orleans flavor. Really good! This is one of those gems that people just dont know about! But the place was packed all night till 2am!! you will wanna go back once you go for the first time! Absolutely loved it loved it!!! Definitely go if youre looking for a different type of entertainment!!
Great old school live music bar. You can get close to the band. Great atmosphere
If its blues you are looking for-- Skylark is hit or miss. I have seen several acts billed as blues who play 3-4 songs to prove they can do it and then move on to whatever. And consider yourself warned-- do not pay a cover to see Billie Bravo.
Hands down the best jazz, soul, and funk-live music joint in town. No doubt. If youre into that kind of vibe, do yourself a favor and visit. Youre welcome.
Some of the most interesting and unique cocktails in the city.Every time I come here I get greeted with warm faces and lots of love.Brian and Mo are the best. The menu is constantly changing which is fun because you get to try all kinds of new things every time you go!
Awesome little seedy, shady in the right 70s dive bar kinda way. The live music is always great and entertaining. Large patio in the back. Definitely worth checking out.
After waiting online for weeks to see if they would reopen post-covid, I was so overjoyed to find out the live shows were back and better than ever. The dark ambiance and vibe reminds me of the cherished bar rooms my grandparents would attend in New Orleans. The music will have even the stiffest person on their feet in less than 5 minutes. The bartenders are sweet and attentive. Phil made me a signature cocktail that made me forget I didnt like gin. The music had me on the dance floor, swaying my hips and shaking my thang all night. Soulman Sam and Birdlegg are true legends in the blues scene in Austin. This place really should be a historic landmark for holding down the Eastside ✊🏾
I cant believe I havent been here earlier. It feels like old Austin - beautiful live music in a large, dimly lit bar with cheap drinks. I liked the bartenders, too. Personable and real.I am a huge fan!
Ohh yes! The Skylark! Great location to enjoy the blues. Lots of character. I would have never visited the place on my own (it’s far from the touristy areas in Austin) but I was lucky to go there with a music tour. I will come back next time I visit Austin.
Austins best venue to hear great blues and soul music!! To boot the audience is absolutely the best youll find they love the music and they Faithfully support this bar 7 nights a week
Gave it one star because of the staff. Great music - they deserve a 5 star, but sadly, the staff here is that bad. I went there once already being warned of the rude bartenders. Theyre awful - one girl flipped me off and threw a towel at my head. Im filing a report with the BBB. No one has responded to me since this happened last friday. Craft drinks suck too.
This is a great dive bar. Do yourself a favor and check out MARGARET WRIGHT in her award winning happy hour show. She is amazing and will make you get up and move!
Love this place, and everyone is so kind! Great music and really friendly people
I interned as a college student there. I think the crew is amazing and the music is authentic blues. Any musician and music lover could enjoy the lineup. The food is good i just wish there was more selection.
We had a fantastic time at the Skylark Lounge last night and ended up staying for over 6 hours. Owner Johnny just started a tradition of giving free drinks to the first patrons in for the night and that was us, so we were off to a good start. He was very friendly and told us about the history of the bar. We immediately felt at home. By 7 PM the place was getting busy and the band was setting up. We ordered a pizza which was delicious. The first act was an old school blues band that we really enjoyed. At 10 PM the band for Miss Lavelle White started playing - they were outstanding. The dance floor was busy and everyone was enjoying themselves. We stayed until the 2nd band finished their last song. You should definitely go here if you enjoy blues music in a casual atmosphere.
Skylark lounge is an iconic blues and funk bar of Austin. I always loved visiting whenever I lived in Austin and would frequently go on Sunday nights for Soul Man Sam and Miss Lavelle White. Both class acts! The place always gets packed but keeps the good vibes high, youre sure to have a good time. Would highly recommend for anyone visiting Austin to drop in to the Skylark lounge on a Sunday night or even if youre a local that has never been you are missing out on a real gem!
The band was great. The singer made me laugh. The only thing that I didnt like was the bartender lady. I ordered a shot and sat at my table for a little before taking it. After I did finally consume my drink, I asked my friend if she wanted something and she asked for a vodka cranberry. So I ask the bartender for a double vodka cranberry and she tells me she cant serve it to me bc I just had a shot. Now I would understand if thats a policy at the bar but it wasnt even for myself. I was pretty mad. So we left.
Nice ppl good music 🎶
Went to see Brian Scartocci , great show had a great time. Crowd was a diverse group of people. The bar inside has a cozy hole in the wall feel with their red desk lamps and booth. I suggest get there in advance of a show you want to see because some seating is set up with your back to the stage. From the outside the lounge looks like a shack, don’t let this discourage you. No food I side but they have a food truck outside and they bring it to you inside once it is done. Oh and let me mention it again, Brian Scartocci and his band deliver a great show with great old soul music.
Came here to see a friend of a friends band play. I had always passed this place when visiting a friend who lived off Airport and Manor and always wondered what it was. Well...now I know. So, parking here can be kinda tricky and thankfully, though the lot was full, there was a guy directing traffic for parking and able to guide the large truck we were in to a suitable makeshift spot. There was a cover at the door and the place was absolutely packed. The seating layout here is a bit weird and not conducive to walking through at all, so we kinda had to elbow and push our way towards the stage. Lucking another friend was there and secured a corner booth w/some wooden chairs. The chairs were extremely uncomfortable, btw. This place is pretty old and run-down looking and very much had a neighborhood dive bar feel. The crowd was a pretty eclectic mix of older folks, young folks, hipsters, cowboy types, and barflys. The band was great, but the acoustics are not here, so it was very loud and raw, especially right by the stage. People also tried making a dancefloor and were doing two-step, swing moves which was fine until my friend got elbowed in the face by one of the dancers sitting by the booth.I ventured out to the patio which is an open, weird, and quirky space with all sorts of brick-a-brack and definitely had a much different crowd than the one inside. It was also where the smokers were hanging out, so I went back inside.I decided not to have a drink here for three reasons: the drinks were way over-priced for a dive bar, the bartender was rude when I asked about their drink offerings, and I have been told by several other people (including the friend I went to see the show with) that they grossly water down their drinks. That being said, I am glad I came to support my friends friends band as they were fantastic, and got to check this place out. I can see why this might be the kind of place certain types enjoy and frequent, but it was not my kind of dive bar or scene. Even if the band were playing again, I do not think Id come back here as this place seems to have their regulars and I felt instantly like an outsider not being one of them.
From the time you walk into Skylark Lounge, you feel that wonderful, intimate vibe reach out and make you feel at home. I have never had anything but a great time when I go here...never. This is a spot for Blues and you should be prepared for it to come out into the crowd and grab you and include you in it - because it will happen! Also, a great outdoor area out back (with walls made of everything you can think of) where you can chill, kick back and enjoy your drink of choice. One of my favorite places to go to in ATX.
Crazy parking attendant got attitude because I parked in an open spot in the front with plenty of space? I was trying to meet some friends here who had arrived about 30 minutes earlier and did not pay a cover nor were told thered be one soon. Doorman asked me to pay a cover and wouldnt even let me quickly go explain to my friends what was happening. I guess I just missed the cut off for cover but it was 730pm, and I could see my group. Guy was just on a power trip. First and last time I try this place.
We were in town visiting and dropped in with our son Spencer Lemann who at the time was 16. We asked if it would be possible for him to join the incredible band onstage for a tune or so and they very graciously invited him on stage to play his guitar, sing, and jam with the band! He and we had a wonderful time! The musicians up on stage were incredible, truly, so kind and generous!!! We sat back eating and drinking and Skylar was almost totally full, so it was particularly kind of them to take this risk. The owner could not have been nicer and even posed at the end with my son for a photograph, gave him a signed poster from Skylark that now hangs proudly on his wall, and wrote on it that he could come play The Skylark whatever he comes back to visit Austin. It was a wonderful evening, one we will never forget!
Amazing venue and high quality live music. The $10 cover is a steal for the amount of talent that was in the building.
Took my dad to Skylark last night so he could wish the incomparable Margaret Wright a very happy birthday in person. Met up with our family friend Carlos; listened to a little world class blues; ate some good food; then talked a little business with the very friendly and accessible owner before calling it a night. This is the place to go when you want good music straight, no chaser!
World class musicians in a hole in wall Austin icon! Thanks Skylark!
Skylark is a great dive bar. It feels like stepping back in time. We go fairly often and always have a good time.
FYI: Google description says this place is BYOB. I came here for the first time tonight, with an uncracked beer in hand. I walk in and ask a table near the door if it’s truly BYOB, they didn’t know but told me to find out!I ask the blue hair Bartender and they say no, It’s not BYOB anymore, and that they can’t change the google description because it costs too much $$$.I say “thank you, I just wanted to confirm before I crack this beer in here. I’ve never been here.”I walk away, b-line towards the door, briefly stopping to inform said table that it’s not BYOB anymore. The bartender aggressively races over to me and my friend and asks us to leave in a passive aggressive fashion, literally 30 seconds after our initial interaction. This venue is very cool, but that Interaction didn’t need to be so rude. Not a big fan. They should really change that description.
Went there over a year ago. Had a blast. Great music. Great drinks. Great food. Real down south soul feeling. Will definitely be back
If you love good music, good vibe and good drinks this is a must in anyways… Just an amazing place you should visit if you’re in Austin
Amazing home in the wall with great music! I visit this place every trip to Austin!
Soul Man Sam on Sunday nights is just beyond. Incredible show and band, gets everyone pumped and dancing. I somehow end up emptying my wallet into the tip jar and dont regret it a bit.
Its a real nasty dive bar. The barback smelled like an ashtray. The female bartenders are apathetic with zero sense of humor. They act like you are lucky they are there for you. It seems to have a bustling regular crowd that they mostly cater to and dont care about new customers. I love divey bars and this one will go on without me.
The pizza was definitely a great choice!!! We will be back for more. Music vibe was good. However, the A/C was no bueno. It was mega hot so, we ended our night early!
Very much a dive bar. I was there on a weeknight, so it was fairly quiet, but I couldnt imagine anyone not feeling comfortable there. Good music, laid back bar. Just dont expect anything fancy ... quite the opposite.
Brooklyn and Phil were both attentive and wonderful. Everything about this place feels like what austin is supposed to be. Great music, great service, great beers.
First time here, saw some young chicks rock the house w some groovy indie stuff. The wine aint all that but theyve got Moscow mules and a cozy atmosphere. Really cool lil venue.
Excellent music. One of the best venues in town. Seriously good every time. And the bartenders make excellent cocktails.
From the outside this place doesn’t look like much, but once you’re inside it’s an oasis of live music and friendly bartenders. We got to see a live jazz band, and sit on a beautifully lit patio for a while to enjoy.
Excellent music. Excellent service despite how busy they were. They allowed my husband to do some live painting on the patio. We had a great first visit.
The band is so amazing, the staff is super friendly and the vibe is so chill and fun. This bar is going to be one of my homes away from home. Love the funk!
Pizza was good, music was great. Got to meet the owner, she was super chill. I will definitely hit this place up when I visit Austin.
Chill dark bar with great music. Parking can be tough but there is a small extra lot next door or across the street. The bar runs warm so dont overdress.
The Skylark Lounge is a great place to go. Its located in East Austin and this neighborhood is really up and coming. I highly recommend giving this place a shoot when visiting Austin. Great place to listen to some live Jazz or Blues.
Skylark is one of Austins best dive bars. Great patio area outside and live music inside. Catch Dickie Lee Erwin or Soulman Sam for great shows.
This is a great spot to go and chill and listen to live music. Also the food is really good. And dont forget to check out all the historical pictures on the wall!
Classic East Austin dive bar. Good music venue. Few and fewer of these are left in Austin. Visit while you can.
Love this place. Excellent live music with some regular local artists and traveling acts. Also, pizza and POPCORN. And a nice backyard patio with a fire when its chilly out.
Blues music at its best. The live band was first class. Unexpected level of coolness exuding from an unassuming hole in the wall bar.
My fave hangout spot since I moved to Austin!!! The friendliest crowd, always someone to dance with and just an overall good vibe!!!
Fabulous, off the beaten path to enjoy live music! Wonderful, toe-tapping bands. Bring your dancing shoes. Cover is only $7.
Love this casual place - this place has east Austin and old Austin vibe. They play great live music. Jazz r& b. I wish they had local beers
I went Aug 5, 2016. Was told there is $5 cover which I paid. Sat at the bar, ordered a beer. My bartender was blond. While Im watching the performer, my bar tender is yakking away with the guy sitting next to me. I ignored her for 10 minutes, then politely asked if she could have her conversation somewhere else since I gad paid $5 to listen to music. She pilitely told me that she HAD to talk to her friend, and that I could move. She had NO interest in the music or her job. She was rude to me, but especially to the performers. The guy she was talking had NO interest in the music, just in getting in her pants. I made it a point to not spend any more money there. I give 2 stars for the musicians. This bartender is worse than useless.
Im surprised more people dont talk about the Skylark. Its an east Austin staple and have some amazing music there. The staff is awesome and there is plenty of room and easy parking.
Close your eyes and sway to the music... Let the Skylark Lounge take you away from the hustle-bustle of the day... This place will elevate your heart and soul with authentic delta blues... Bring a towel because you are gonna want to dance your fanny off... Come in, grab a gratis bowl of popcorn, stop by the bar for a cold Blue Moon and prepare to be welcomed into the arms what I feel is true Austin entertainment...
Awesome place. Always great music in an intimate but lively setting. Back patio area has a great vibe as well.
My favorite band plays here! Charlie belle! It looks kinda funny outside but I promise its very welcoming and really chill inside.
Super lively lounge. Great vibes, good music and superb drinks. Definitely a spot Ill be going back to. 🍺☝️ Get a free Lyft ride when you use promo LYFTNEW50
Very cool little bar with local vibe. Best kind of dive bar. Good happy hour. Great music. Small parking lot on site and street parking
THIS place is AUSTIN. The mix of musicians and artists is EXACTLY what we need more of. There’s a spiritual experience here that’s unmatched.
Quaint, no frills bar for live music. Chill atmosphere for actually listening to the artists.
Ive been in the Austin area for over 6 years, and I love the Skylark!!! As a life long Bluesman who moved to Austin in search of a better place to live, and play, I can that the Skylark Lounge is the best real Blues club ,not only in Austin, but its one of the best in America!! As a performer/harmonica/singer, and and an international traveler, Ive never been to to such an honest Blues club!! I love to play with Johnny Latouf and his family staff!! I have always felt comfortable around Johnny because unlike most other owners, hes not there to search for something wrong, like most club owners seem to do! Actually most owners dont patronize the clubs they own, unless something is wrong! Its a family at the Skylark, and thats why its so popular!!! I tell my fans in other countries about the Skylark and when they visit our country, they do come to the Skylark!!! Now thats what I call international Charisma!! Long live the Skylark Lounge!!! Birdlegg, the Hardest Working Man in the Blues!!!!!!!!
Great old school place! They are restoring it instead is re-douche-ing it! Johnny is a really cool guy running it! Real Texas music, blues, r&b and more !
Great place, atmosphere and awesome live blues!!
I love this place so much. So genuine Austin. The Sunday night show is a MUST SEE.
Soul man Sam is a legend and I was grateful to see him perform at this amazing Austin gem, Skylark Lounge!
Best dive bar in Austin. Love Wed nights for Butter and Jam!!
Felt privileged to be able to check out Soul Man Sam during my visit to Austin. The Skylark is a hidden gem of soul here in Austin Texas. Definitely worth a stop!
Small place, but great vibes. Awesome live music, reasonably priced drinks, with very friendly and attentive staff.
Great little bar, wonderful music. Saw PK and the Gumbo Ya-Yas last night and they were fantastic. Will definitely go back.
Nice and chill spot for some great music
Skylark is great! Has a really nice vibe to it (pretty dark) and very good music. Fun people as well. Pizza was ok, not great.
Looks a little sketchy from the outside, but pretty nice and divey once you are in. Great back outdoor area and a great band. Lost a star for inexplicable only red lights scheme.
My new favorite bar in Austin. Great bartenders, music and patio. You have to see Margaret Wright and Blues Boy Hubbard and the Eastside Kings.
Usually they have a great band and drinks are reasonable. A classic Austin venue.
Skylark is as good as it gets in East Austin. Blues music always on point. Gentrified staff make it annoying. Poc make it great. Fax. More stars when staff makes customers priority.
Not for the Skylark lounge itself (it is fine) but for the food truck operator outside. He doesn’t accept card, and most recently I witnessed him taking a piss in the grass. With the lack of food options on site and the questionable safety outside (when I walked down to the Whataburger, a drunk woman threatened to shoot me), all I can say is to eat well beforehand or even pack snacks if you drove here.
Dont let the outside fool you. Inside is great music and a good drink selection. We took in a 7:30 show that was terrific.
Nice place for blues music fans. Not fancy. Very low-key. Good live blues and dancing too.
Im not going to say much because I dont want this place to be Columbus-ed. But, I love Skylark. While I was sad when Bernadettes went away, Skylark grew on me. I just wish they had kept the bras on the ceiling, but I guess you cant have it all.
GREAT atmosphere to have a couple drinks with friends. Huge patio around back with plenty of seating. Very intimate inside.
This place speaks Austin. It is a small dive bar with friendly people. The music is the BEST Ive ever heard in Austin. This is a must see!
Very unique spot. Not a lot of places to sit but we got there at 10 so thats on us. Would definitely go back.
I enjoyed Jazz Wednesday. It is a great opportunity to kick back, have a drink, and listen to some live music in a relaxing environment.
Great dive bar with cheap beer and excellent live Blues. Mens bathroom probably hasnt been cleaned since 1995.
Down home dive with a very southern feel. Check their online calendar and go when theres a blues jam, or a band playing. Theres room by the stage for some dancing.
Best lounge in the history of mankind. Always guaranteed to have some real good live music.
An unmistakably authentic local music scene. Heart and soul and faithful locals. Loved.
If you look at the picture, dont let it scare you. Theres a friendly lot attendant, helping you park, its dark and dingy BUT they book some of the best music in Austin off the beaten path!
First time visiting and the people were friendly, the drinks tasty and the music was wonderful! Definitely going back with my special lady.
It was awesome. The band was very talented and the guys were absolutly sexy. They put a good show.
You wouldnt expect much from the outside but inside this place has a great vibe, great music, and great food. Well worth going to see a show.
Reminds me of Sahara lounge. Vibrant place. I just wish they open Thursdays all the way to Sundays. Or add Thursdays and cancel Sundays.
A small slice of old Austin. Great music and an eclectic crowd. Fantastic patio in back.
Great dive bar. Great music but long wait at the bar for drinks
