Hawthorn SF Nightclub and Lounge

We went to 4 different bars and lounges around the area and this is by far the best spot! The interior has plenty of room and doesnt seem crowded. The people seemed well dressed and I felt like Im in the Great Gatsby movie with the classic interior design, dancers, and amber lighting on one side. There are two different dance areas, one for more hip-hop and the other more techno/electronic music. Most of all everyone from the bouncer, bartenders, and staff were all friendly and helpful. Parking garage was not too far away (about 5 minute walk) which is also convenient.

They charged me 20$ to get in. I asked hiw it it looking to ight. Bouncer was silent, I walked in and it was dead. So i asked for a water, the bartender pointed to a sign that said 3$ for voss water, i handed 3 $ over, then she said plus tax. So i gave an extra dollar, she didnt even give change. So im like wow this place refuses to do better so im going to abandon it. I hope it closes down soon or gets new management. I honestly feel disrespected. I feel so ripped off.

My company hosted a very successful Cocktail Mixer event (happy hour) at Hawthorn, and weve had such excellent feedback on the event, both from our event partners as well as the attendees. The event staff (host, registration, coat check, event manager, etc) were incredible, friendly and always accommodating. Great place to host! Very cool and intimate atmosphere.

I rarely rate places bad cuz I gave reasoning to places I visit. I was referred with vip tickets to come here on 7/6 7/7 night. We even invited friend to have a good time here looking forward to a table. When we got here, the door guy stoped us saying one person in our group doesn’t have long pants and asked us to all go to change . In 2 hours, we came from a musical and decided to try again, he changed and said 50 dollars or 20. It sounds like a joke , we were serious visitors and we felt like we were barred at the door because the door man doesn’t understand the club. Anyway. Won’t go again, it’s a waste of time for people who want a classic time with easy check in.

This place was great! The owner talked to my friend and I for a brief moment and the man is a class-act! The bartenders were amazingly friendly and the drinks were great! Music, ambience, and clientele were all top-notch as well!

Fantastic bar and lounge with delicious craft cocktails and bar snacks. Live jazz music on Tuesdays. Comfortable seating, friendly staff, comfortable ambience, and great Void Soundsystem.

A nice, spacious bar with good cocktails and fresh, unlimited truffle popcorn. Servers were really nice, and the space, although dimly lit, was comfortable for hanging out and chatting with friends.

We hosted a client appreciation happy hour event at Hawthorn and were thoroughly happy with the entire evening. Chadwick & Charlotte were amazing to work with and were able to help bring my vision to life perfectly. To start off, the venue is absolutely beautiful with such unique décor and state-of-the art sound system.To go along with our Cuban theme, we hired Imangiere to cater our event. George was so helpful such a pleasure to work with to plan out our menu and Joseph was so professional and helpful during set up and throughout the entire event. The food was delicious!The floral that Jola from Blooming Alley created was gorgeous and perfectly complimented our theme. Our cigar roller, Patricio, was a huge hit as he rolled cigars for our guests. The DJ played the perfect blend of music complementing our theme. The highlight of our event were our Carmen Mirandas! Tracy is super-talented with costume design and make-up.Mark Sandstorm Photography does beautiful work and did an amazing job capturing the evening so well.All the bartenders, door staff, and DJ were fabulous & friendly.I highly recommend hosting a corporate event at Hawthorn. They are super professional, easy to work with, affordable and flexible. You won’t be disappointed!

I went to a private party for a dear friend. The club is swanky. Comfortable with a great sound system.

Its been a while since Ive been to Hawthorn....what a fantastic spot downtown it is! The space was beautiful, clean and the cocktail program was spot on. I had a seasonal rosemary infused drink and it was absolutely delicious. Upon arrival, the door man greeted us with a smile and the service and staff throughout the night were friendly, accommodating and nice. The dancer/performers were exquisite! Their costuming was sexy, yet elegant and chic and created such a beautiful tone and atmosphere. The sound system is incredible and the DJs played all the hits and kept me and my small group of friends dancing almost the entire night! It was great being able to go back and forth between the two rooms they have with two different sets of DJs and music styles. Definitely recommend this spot to anyone looking for a fun place with great music/dancing, ambience and amazing drinks!! Ill be back again soon.

This place is a hidden gem. Very easy to miss when walking by.Our waitress was amazing and Im very sad I didnt catch her name (she has a butterfly tattoo on her hand). Every drink she recommended was superb.If you love bourbon I strongly recommend trying The Larcenist. Now if you are like me and like something a little fruitier I recommen The Good Seed. Its like Namaste in a glass, sooo good.

My company hosted a corporate event at Hawthorn. From the moment we sent in an inquiry about the space to the last minute of the event night, we were so well taken care of by Charlotte, Chadwick and the entire Hawthorn team! The space is beautiful and has a warm vibe. The drinks were unique and perfectly crafted. We really enjoyed our time at the party and received great reviews from our clients. I cant recommend this venue enough!

Hawthorn is old and tired... Lazy music... and Expensive!! And full of wanna-bes. Go there only if you want to chill with dorks. Anyone who says it was cool or great is either high or drunk.

I met a group of friends at this location around 10:30pm on a Saturday night and it was just $10 to get in. To hang your coats they charge $3. Overall the atmosphere was classy and nice! The Dj that night played a good variation of music (pop,R&B,reggaeton). The bartenders were pretty fast with the drinks but some of them didnt know how to make certain drinks. One of the bartender guys had a slight attitude every time we ordered so we decided to stop ordering at one point. Drinks were a bit overpriced but honestly expected since its in the city. For two shots it was $33. For 4 cocktail drinks it was about $64. The security was nice and also offered some flipflops to a friend that couldnt walk in heels anymore. Dance floor is small and around many reserved tables. Bathroom was clean and not crowded on the girls side. Overall, I would come back again with some friends.

I celebrated my daughter getting married aka Mother of the Bride Party with my girlfriends and this was the perfect place. Great ambiance, the seating selections are top notch and and the customer service was on point before and during my night out. The bottle service girls were very attentive and professional and David (the doorman/security) was amazing, he checked on us and made sure we were safe at the end of the night while waiting on our Lyft. The crowd is good and the DJ in the Hip-Hop/top 40s section had everybody on their feet. Bottle service is reasonable and worth every penny.

Every time I come here I have a terrible time because the bouncers are so unnecessarily aggressive and ruuuuuuuuuuude

SOOO FUN! we had no trouble with bouncers or anything but we also came pretty early, around 9ish on a saturday night. the employees were really sweet and friendly!the dance floor is small so it gets pretty crowded to the point i kept on tripping and bumping into people, but the music rocks! they played a lot of pop and hip hop that had everybody dancing and singing, the vibes were great. they also had dancers come out later which was super exciting! the bathrooms were nice & clean as well.we left around midnight after it had gotten pretty packed, and since you have to go downstairs it was very stuffy from all the people so i wound up having an asthma attack—so i’d be careful and bring an inhaler if you have asthma as the air flow isn’t fantastic. but overall we had an amazing experience, best club we found in the area!

Had another awesome evening Hawthorn last weekend! Cool crowd and staff was amazing and bottle service was on point. Liked the cocktails and vibe was great as always. Be back soon!

I had a great experience coming into hawthorn this past Friday night. Security was friendly, courteous and attentive. I came in around 10pm, when the club started to fill in a bit more and I had perfect service. Bartenders had great suggestions for some tasty craft cocktails, the dj’s were great, particularly in the back room which lended itself well to more house/edm music. It was also really fun chatting it up with some of the bottle servers, who were hosting my friends birthday party. They did a great job, and were prompt to ensure that all our friends were taken care of, had fresh ice, mixers and cocktails. If you’re looking for a fun nightclub, with great dj’s and service - but with professional craft bar presentation, then this is the place to go!

This is a great craft cocktail joint, walk in, sit down and drink what the mixologist tells you to drink. Then relax and enjoy

Went there for the second time on May 14, 2022. This is a nice club, it has a cozy subterranean feel to it and top notch sound system. They dont play the music too loud either so you can still talk to people. Cocktails are expensive, like over $15. They have two dance floors, the techno room feels kind of dead with only a few people dancing and the music is lame. The other room is urban and pop music. Some of the music is good there but most of it is corny and cheesy. Interesting crowd, mostly just normal average people, so its not pretentious which is kind of cool. Even people in their 40s and 50s go there to go dancing.

Had a blast here! The vibes are so fun. Classy, swanky decor, awesome danceable set, friendly staff, super clean, beautiful decor, and delicious drinks! I cannot wait to come back and bring back other friends!

The dance floor is too small for my taste. They play okay music I guess. But for $15 entrance fee it’s not worth it. There are better bars in SF downtown than this.

The Hip Hop music was good, the EDM beats was just not for me and felt more like a trance music, but the customer service quality was top notch. I lost my wallet, and the securities found it for me in the middle of the crowds! Thankyou!

I had a great time for my friends Birthday party dancing to excellent music until I went and asked some questions and was asked to leave I did. Thank God the party contained till closing and they picked me up down the street at the great Pizza place.

Fun nightclub featuring a cage for go-go dancers. Came here for a friend’s birthday and he reserved a couple of tables, for which we needed to arrive at 11pm on a Saturday night. We got one of the pre-made cocktails and a bottle of grey goose which was plenty for 8 of us. There’s a small dance floor with the DJ as well as a back area. Club attire enforced. The DJ was good and played a mix of hip hop/EDM.

My Second visit here to continue my Birthday Celebration, this time my other friends came, and we had an even better time than I had the week prior, the music was great... But I do have to say that the guest DJ from Fresno was outstanding, the way he mixed was excellent, you couldnt hear abrupt changes in beats as he introduced a new song, he kept my friends and I on the dance floor... Thank you Again for a great evening! The whole staff provided awesome service as well, from the front door all the way to the bar, my friends whom had never been there were totally impressed! And, yes... Well be back! 👏

Although i got through the bouncer & paid for entry with no issues, when i got inside, a security guard told me that i had to take off my head wrapping/hijab... i find this to be extremely discriminatory.too bad cause i actually enjoyed the venue outside of this interaction.

The place was cool enough to make me want to again another time. The drinks piqued my interest, and although I expected their tiki drink special was going to be a typically trashy drink, it actually ended up being a pretty impressive cocktail. Its a bit to dark down in the bottom floor for my taste... Makes the place seem very uninviting. We also had to put in a decent amount of effort to get our bartenders attention, who seemed a bit too involved in a conversation with his bud considering every seat at the bar was full.

Great ambience, cozy setting, & great service! Celebrated my birthday here a couple of months ago, and it was perfect! Chadwick & his staff were so gracious, be it their email correspondence or impeccable service on the day of. Made me feel like royalty!The club itself has a way better(well-behaved, but still fun) crowd than most other clubs in the city. I think this is a reflection of the place itself!

Was here with some coworkers and friends for after work drinks. Poor customer service from bartender and cocktail waitresses. Orders were incorrect, drinks took a long time to come (place was hardly busy), and staff did not check-in on us for another round or to take food orders. Staff was rude when we were provided the wrong order, and stood at the corner bar chatting and on their phones. Manager did try to comp us for incorrect order, but the poor customer service ruined our evening and we unfortunately left early because of it. Nice, dark, vintage atmosphere but would not come back again.

Had a holiday office party here. They offer a wide variety of drinks and good cocktails. The staff are friendly and nice to talk to. In terms of drinks, they are one of the best I have been too. For office parties, the space is a bit too small for activities and food.

The place is interesting. It had two dance floors, one for house and one for hip hop. The bathroom was clean. There was weird paintings on the wall, but overall the place is nice. They have a cover charge at the entrance. Bring cash.

Great environment and friendly staff. Good prices and the bartenders take their time to make a well-crafted cocktail. Ive had a blast here and would recommend it if you like to dance without an aquarium feel to a club.

I organized a corporate reception at Hawthorn, all while being in NYC and the experience couldnt have been better. They handled everything from coordinating food, music and decor. Charlotte and Chadwick were wonderful to work as was their caterer who did an amazing job designing an eclectic and upscale menu for us. We had a group of just about 200 and it was the perfect size space. The ambiance was perfect for an edgy, classy event with the perfect amount of food. The bartenders got rave reviews for making excellent drinks. In addition, the CEO of the company I work with is a cancer survivor. We donate money to charities that fight childhood cancer. Chadwick read about our CEOs story and donated 5% of our bar bill to the cancer charity of our choice. Thank you again Hawthorn SF! You are the best!

Perfect place to go if you want to get roofied!

Interesting place to enjoy a creative cocktail. main room was spacious and lined with comfortable seating. bar was a bit crowded especially as the night went on which made getting to the wash rooms pass the bar and through the private party room in back a bit awkward. staff friendly if not fully informed to direct parties to their private functions. am going to try going back on a slower night...

Really nice upscale club. Nice main room with house music or techno, cool back bar with hip hop. Nice staff, gorgeous dancers, usually good sound. Last time I went sounded like blown speaker.

Awesome bar/club with great dancing. Ive known the owner, Chadwick for a few years. Hes a wonderful guy, who delivers amazing experiences. I dont believe you will be dissapointed on any night.

$10 cover. Not bad but for this place its about $9.50 too much. No place to go once you get down stairs. Wasnt even crowded and it was cramped down there. Couldnt find the bathroom. Wouldnt have been an issue if I could have gotten some service from the bar tender. He looked right through me like I didnt just pay to get in there.

This night could have ended in a better way. The promoter or security person wasnt nice right away. This happened Nov 2nd and it was a going away party for my friend that was leaving her current job. We even bought a table and several bottles. The problem started when I took my friend to the bathroom as she wasnt feeling well and he felt compelled to tell me to leave her alone like he thought I was doing something wrong. First Im gay and always will protect my girl friends. I made a comment and apparently hurt his ego and he kicked me out for no apparent reason. Ive been here several times and have gotten several tables in the past. I want to email management but you know what it was a one time thing and I want to give them a second chance. Next time please ask your promoters to act with more respect and to learn to listen to people before showing them out the door.

Walked in, was told I had to paid a $5 cover. Told them I was only here to briefly meet up with friends before going somewhere else. Paid the cover, then immediately after the same woman told me I had to check my bag, and that would cost $3. Meanwhile, a group of around 5 walked in behind me, asked if they could just go check it out for a few without paying. Bouncer says its new years, go have a blast!. Frustrated, I went in to meet my friends. We immediately left, I asked for a refund with no luck.Talk about getting scammed on NYE. Dont support these type of places!

Classy place for a date night or night with friends where you wanna spend time with some good music and drinks. Dinging 1 star because the menu changes after 9 pm and there are barely any drinks on the menu to order from. The menu before 9pm has some quality drinks. Larcenist is my fav. drink.

Had the most HORRIBLE experience! We were discriminated. This place is not for people of color that are born and raised in SF. We were kicked out because we were asked to move in a rude way. Seriously the most horrible experience I’ve have ever had here in SF. I have been to tons of other clubs and lounges in the city and this is by far the worst I have ever been at. And the music the play is not the best. Just FYI

Nice decor, friendly professional staff. Drinks were a bit pricey but its to be expected at a nicer club. We were here for Halloween and had a great time.

The place is located near Hakkasan downtown and is unmarked (no signs or anything). Theres 2 rooms- the main room has a bar and dancers in cages. The night we went was kind of boring only because the music they played in the main room was like one whole loungy electronic song and when we tried to go to the hip-hop room they closed it off for a private party! The first time I went here the music was much better, and they actually played EDM songs that were good. Bar has great service though, bartenders were attentive, fast, and friendly.

Love this place! Drinks are awesome, music is very good! People are nice!!! Even if you can not make it to the guest list, paying the entrance fee is worth it :)

I have been in the nightclub industry for 20 years in SF. Owner, promoter and Dj. The positives of Hawthorn are numerous in my opinion. Was there on a Friday night, mature, fun crowd. Mixed all the way through. That is what you want from a metropolitan city/vibe.There was enough space to dance, two rooms with beautiful speakeasy décor.Hawthorn also offers a world-class VOID sound system that keeps the beat in front of you.The go-go dancers are artistic and theatrical. Very professional and take pride in their craft.Nice and friendly front of house staff from the door to the General Manager - Andrew Saman.One of my top remarks is that they offer seats for free!! I love it. I dont have to buy a booth to sit. Good flow from room to room. Cant wait to go back with a group of friends!

One of the most versatile venues in San Francisco. You can grab a craft cocktail after work and relax with friends, or arrive later on and vibe to some of the best DJs in the city and beyond. The front room is a comfortable, loungey space with an incredible sound system, while the back room offers a more intimate experience on weekends that is more reminiscent of a really fun house party than a dance club. (the back room is also great for private events). Overall, the venue is casual yet swanky in the same breath and a unique alternative to the cities often one dimensional bar and nightlife scene.

Staff talked about having a dress code despite no dress code being posted anywhere on their site or the event page, and while letting other guys in with ripped jeans. If youre gonna turn people away for an arbitrary dress code, make sure its known so you dont waste peoples time, or come up with a better excuse.

Pretty awesome sound system. Great djs. Cant wait to visit again. There was a private function in the back room that was playing music a little too loud. Wish it didnt drown into the main room.

I loved it and I had too which was really unexpected because I didnt want to go in the first due to I dont fancy American m usic that much. But when I got there they were playing African music. I would love to come back again.

Love this place of good vibes and good times and music there and drinks. Hope they host really good events there and love the people there as they make it for what it is out there and women in leather skirts when they show up as they make a good happy glamorous scenes of really having a good time and just having fun there to social and make friends there.

Stopped by on a Saturday night and I was impressed. Friendly staff, good music, and love the vibe. It is not pretentious like other San Francisco lounge and clubs.

Poor attitude towards people when closing down the place. The barmen and security dont need to act like major a**holes while asking people to finish their drinks and leave. Never going there again. Plenty of other nice places out there.

My friend and I when last Saturday December 3 of 2016 and we made use of our credit cards. They charge more that we spent that night. And yesterday received a notification from my bank, telling that a random purchase had been declined,(pursachace that wasnt mine. I usually dont use that credit card but that night I forgot my other one, so I used it that night ) that if I recognized this transaction. So, I declined it and reported it as a fraud. I called the bank and they informed me that this was an online transaction from so city of south CA. Today I met my friend and I told her what happened to my credit card, I she told me that it happened to her too... at the same day as me, with just one hour of difference from my transaction fraud. So, we concluded that our information was stolen/hacked in the HAWTHORNE nightclub SF. So, it is a shout out to the nightclub and costumes to be awake of this. Someone is taking your cards information.

Comfortable & cool; awesome music quality played at levels that I could still talk with friends without having to scream in their ears; great drinks served by talented bartenders; aesthetically pleasing decor.

Biggest ripoff for a reserved table I’ve ever seen, they charge you $300 for a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka that is opened before it arrives at your table and guess what, it’s not Grey Goose!

Very unprofessional staff. Kicked us out prematurely. Place was empty, even on a Friday night and didnt have any good music playing. Would not recommend to anyone trying to have a good time

We came here to support our friend while he DJed here one night. Decent spot to grab a drink downtown SF. I still prefer something a little cheaper, but Hawthorn is by no means expensive for the neighborhood.

This awesome nightclub is very highend and has awesome entertainment, staff and management. Chadwich is an amazing niteclub owner. The experience is worth it! 100% must see.

Such a cool bar, cant believe I hadnt been here despite living so close. The only reason I take a star off is because we didnt know that the service charge was 21.7%, and only noticed the charge on card later. It wouldve been nice to know in advance given we also tipped on top of this pretty nicely.The entrance is tiny and kinda deceiving because inside the place is huge with plenty options to sit, stay at the bar or be near the dance floor. I made a reservation on a Friday for the same evening but when I arrived they had no seats left, they probably didnt receive my reservation in time. Despite that, the host was kind enough to find our group a seating spot, so brownie points for friendliness right there! Note that it Friday Eve so the bar is pretty full and yet our whole experience that evening was made because of how friendly the entire staff was, which happens rarely at a bar! The music was slightly loud so not your place, if you wanna just chit-chatSo we got seated, and the server brought drinks menu. They didnt have food that evening due to an event which she was sorry for, but they brought us their on-the-house truffle popcorns which I loved! The guy who made those came around to check-in twice and was super chatty and friendly as well, I forget his name but he mentioned we will be impressed by his horse-riding haha. :)Coming to drinks, great cocktails! I loved my tequila infused with spicy jalapenos and citrus, but on the second round I went with the bartenders choice, which for that evening was Wild Card. Turns out the drink was an amazing selection and nutty flavored, which for $7 was a steal! Im definitely bringing my gang again, so should you!

Chill-er vibes for the club scene. The two rooms seem to give a balance of trendy and local vibes. Bartenders were cool, drinks were solid.

I prefer it over other places in the area because its less packed and pretty cool. Gets packed later though. Drinks are ok - old fashioned is bad - because they add soda... WT...? Free popcorn :)

I dont get it. It is a Midwestern basement finished in the 70s. If said basement had an IG account of hot girls and and PR person. Must depend entirely on the crowd and we missed it.

Great venue for events. Close to transportation , parking, and hotels. 2 blocks from Union Square.

Chill lounge style environment. Not a spot for a loner, but bar tender was incredible.

Located in the heart of downtown San Francisco, a very caliente atmosphere. The waitress, who fortunately spoke French, offered to make cocktails or drinks according to our tastes, because we didnt really know what to choose on the menu. She also advised us to take an Uber, even though we were a three minute walk from our hotel. The security guards reacted well to the behavior of one of our friends who was very drunk. They explained the situation to us well. So if you want to have a safe drink, this is the place to go.

While it is extremely well rated, I personally found it wasnt really that busy for a Saturday. The music is good, friendly staff and very clean. I think they have a smoking ban. Nobody smoked in the club.
