Austin has changed a lot since I began coming in the 80s. One thing hasn’t changed. Continental Club IS STILL Coolest Spot In Austin! Whether it’s catching HH show or staying out late. Gets crowded but never claustrophobic. Getting a drink is never difficult. Hot Rods out front. Horses visiting now and ten, always a great time! Steve and his staff are Austin Royalty. DON’T SLEEP ON CONTINENTAL CLUB!!
It’s what as expected, a perfect tourist, dive bar. Wonderful as an unabashed palace of people watching and faded red walls. A rider trying to enter on horseback. A whirling dervish of excellent dancers and a band playing the same old country songs for the hundredth or thousandth time with the best of their talents and remaining enthusiasm
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️We had a fantastic time at The Continental Club! The atmosphere was electric, with a great live band that kept the crowd entertained all night. The service was friendly and efficient, ensuring we had everything we needed to enjoy the evening. The ambiance of the club is perfect for a night out with friends, offering a unique and vibrant experience. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking to enjoy great music and a lively atmosphere.
While I was in Austin Texas I was asking where would be a good place to hear music. The Continental club came up a few times so I decided to go here. Parking was not difficult and was easy to find. Prior to the band I came to see was a more popular group covering Elvis songs. Pretty active group and crowd which all had a good time with a lot of dancing. As I went in you can definitely tell since it was significantly warmer with all ceiling fans cranking. I didnt order any food but ordered vodka and orange juice and sat down and waited for the show to start. Unfortunately the drink wasnt good at all and it was the only one I ordered. The staff was okay but I guess they were spent from the previous show. As the room cooled off I was hoping they would turn down the ceiling fans but they kept everything on high even though there were about 20 people in a room that could fit about 50+. It just made things a little uncomfortable. The band, with guest dj, was good and played popular songs which kept everybody in a good mood. I left after about an hour along with a few other people. Would like to revisit if there are any solo guitar artists playing.
Came here for the Soulman Sam concert and absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was great, and the waitress serving us could not have been friendlier or more attentive. The band looked like they were having the time of their life on the stage, and honestly so did we. It was one of the best concerts l have ever been too. They dont do food but they did have a nice craft beer on tap. All in all this was our favourite evening in Austin.
Had a blast at The Continental last night. The West Texas Exiles were stellar - such an awesome surprise. We also loved the band/singer than followed - Jade Marie Patek. AMAZING voice. We were exhausted, so headed out before the set was done, but will definitely be seeking her music out! Drinks, service, dance floor, etc. were all great as well :)
Attempted to watch an elvis tribute show - as soon as we walked in the old woman in front was unfriendly while purchasing tickets. After spending $150 on tickets there was NO SEATING FOR A 3 HOUR SHOW despite arriving 30 minutes earlier. (they probably only had 20 seats - despite website saying it sits 200 people) Woman did not accommodate this and wasn’t offered any chairs so our group decided to get a refund. After this, woman became even more unprofessional and began TAKING PICTURES OF US LEAVING WITH HER PHONE. When asked why we’re getting our picture taken without consent she said because we got stamped and didn’t want you coming back. Have never experienced such unprofessional from an establishment and suggest not wasting your time and money here. The disgusting treatment from the woman worker matched the grotesque atmosphere of this place.
Awesome place to enjoy great music in Austin. Easy access. In their web page you find the details about the shows, prices (some are first come first serve, others require tickets in advance) and hours.
This was a pretty funky old bar. Nothing fancy at all here thats for sure. I was told this was a good place to hear music and we did hear some good music there. However as I said the place was old and not just in like a cute old way but in a rundown very very old way. I made sure to keep my hand over my drink the whole time because there was lots of dust strings hanging down from the ceiling that could fall down into anything. So a great place to go listen to music the bartenders are quick and making good pours but just keep in mind where youre going
Very intimate venue with great bartenders and live music. Open since 1955 so I can only imagine the artists that have come through over the years. Five rows of high top seating with six seats per row, some comfortable booths against the right wall that can fit 4. Bar lines the left side of the venue. Full bar available, mixed drinks were well done (old fashioned, vodka cranberry, vodka soda lime). Thanks for a great night out!
Really nice place for live music. I found the details and local features of these bar very welcoming and local. Such a nice place to enjoy some music while you have a drink. We arrived before the show started, no entrance fee, you can leave tips to the band. Prices for the drinks are great! People are happy and nice, staff was amazing!
When visiting Austin, this place is a must! It’s quintessential South Austin. 3 musical acts/day 7 days/week. Just amazing place. A must must see.
Really nice and cozy place to catch a show. The servers were fast and friendly.
This place is beyond legendary, and amazing in my opinion. Being from Tulsa, Ok; Id have to say that, the clubs, and the music scene in Tulsa sort of pale in comparison to Austin for a number of reasons. And believe it or not, there was a Continental Club in Tulsa on 1st and Elgin, but shut down. Coincidental? Who knows, but this place in Austin gets 5 stars all the way. I kinda wonder as legendary as this club is, did Jimi Hendrix ever play there? Cheers
Legendary club for live music. Friendly staff, good sound and always great band lineupUPDATE: Still one of my favorite live music venues in Austin!
We had so much fun here! With an upstairs and downstairs location, we had the opportunity to see two amazing bands perform in one night. There was sufficient seating and room to stand in both places, and in the upstairs location, we got to watch several talented audience members dance too! Highly recommend the experience (but not the cocktails)
So fun! What a great, historical venue. You can sit there picturing what it must have been like to go to a show in the 50s, the place looks like its barely changed! The music was great, the staff were friendly. We had a lovely time and went back a couple times during our 3 day trip.
Unnecessary loud for the size of the room, or the crowd. Great music. Friendly staff. Going back, soon as the ringing stops.
We were in their attic. I forgot what it was called but this was my first time there. I’ve been to the one in Houston many times and I have to say I like both venues. I didn’t see the interior of the downstairs but upstairs is intimate and if you are going to see a show get there early because there’s a couple of couches up against the wall😊
Love the music and atmosphere here!!! What a gem! We only came for the music but the bar and staff were fabulous too.
Continental Club never disappoints. Always top notch musicians with guest appearances that blow your socks off. The boyfriend had never been & absolutely loved it.
My fiancée and I had the pleasure of going to The Continental Club for the first time last year and I’m still telling people I know about it. ABSOLUTE 10/10 experience. I went on a Thursday night and it’s still one of the most memorable nights of my life for me.
$14 for a very weak gin and tonic? And Im supposed to tip on top of that? Give me a break. At least the music was decent.
Top notch music venue/honky tonk. No food, but can bring it in. Friendly staff and spectacular musicians. Dont miss it!
Great music bar and loved the atmosphere BUT the rest rooms are shocking. a TOTAL DISGRACE - come on team sort them out it’s 2024
A fun, though small, music venue. Not much room to sit, but there is enough room for dancing. Street parking was easy to find.
Slightly disappointing first visit to a legendary place. We went to see our friend and musician Dale Watson on our first visit to Austin. Lots of us lined up at the door an hour or so before it opened only to have a bus load of folks be let in in front of us that never waited in line. We all raised hell and the younger guy at the door told us, theres plenty of other live music places in this town. Not very appreciative of the customer at all. The show was great and the other employees were too.
This place is absolutely Amazing. Great music, great service, such cool atmosphere and vibes. Its so Austinite! You can seat to listen to the music or dance, whatever youre feeling like doing. What I found really great is that the place has AC and makes such a big difference in this unbearable heat. The entrance is Cash Only and theres an ATM inside if you need it. We had a great time. The only issue I had this time was that the sound was so extremely loud with the band 40 acre mule that it made it impossible to enjoy it. We had to stand on the side but it was still hurting so we had to leave. Overall this place is a Must visit. I brought some guests visiting from Chile and they absolutely loved it. I cant wait to come back!
The Continental Club in Austin embodies the soul of live music. Its intimate setting, dimly lit ambiance, and diverse acts create an unforgettable experience. From blues to rock, the stage pulsates with energy. A must-visit for music enthusiasts seeking authenticity and a taste of Austins legendary scene.
Some the best music that Austin offers. Good drinks too
Iconic music venue in Austin. A must visit for a show!
Attended a happy hour show. There was plenty of seating when we arrived at 6 PM although most seats were taken by 7. Friendly crowd, gathered that many were regulars. No food served. Margaritas were good. Pretty full entertainment calendar with 2 or 3 performers almost every day.
Fun dicey bar with live music. I didnt like that there was a cover charge.
Always a treatFree music on Friday nights 6:30 pm with a very talented Henry Herbert
Three generations of my family have enjoyed numerous shows through the years at the Continental Club. The team is cool, kind and caring. I even won a Fender Stratocaster there at a benefit show several years back. My 93 year old Mom enjoyed her last visit to the Continental Club after getting out of rehab and before leaving for a nursing home. She had to break out her blues harp and play a few tunes. Thank you Continental Club for many great memories.
What an excellent bar. This place was one of the bars I was told to check out when I went to Austin. Im glad I did. We had an amazing time there. There is live music plays every night. The continental has 2 floors with different kind of music on each. The drinks were fantastic and the drink were extremely well priced. Id recommend you check it out when your in Austin.
So reliably your live music go-to place in the “live music capital of the world.”
Went to check out a band last night. $12 cover charge. He was great, an actual singer/songwriter who talked about each of his songs. It wasnt the place for us as it was packed and there were seats for maybe 1/2 the audience. We got there right when they started and it was standing room only and very crowded. Hard to move around or enjoy your drink. The waitress was running around doing a great job taking care of everyone though.
One of the best bars for live music in the world.
Awesome atmosphere. A must visit spot down town.
Historic place, go see a band have some shots, get teleported to another place.
Great music and nice atmosphere!
Very good music and experience, but I didnt like that in order to get in theres a cover that needs to be paid only in cash with no flexibility. We asked to use the ATM located inside and they refused because somebody else was using it and made us wait outside for a lot of time...Why not accepting credit/debit cards?Very inconvenient and suspicious...===Re to owner: You can pay them trough a check, a wire transfer, etc... Their paying convenience represents your customers inconvenience.
Spent a hot Saturday afternoon in the cool, dark friendliness of the C. Club with several Lone Star longnecks and a great band with a front man who got to the stage from his wheelchair with the help of the strong arms and mutual respect from his band mates. Dont remember the foursomes name, but very listenable. Played for tips til the paid night acts came on.A great memory of Congress St in Austin, TX.
Its a rectangle with a stage on one end and the entrance on the other and a bar on one side. This happens to be the best layout for a small music venue. This place is that. Its awesome. Great bartenders. Great bands. Its a classic for a reason.
Yup, 5 stars. Great music late night, even on week nights. Expect a small cover charge. Centrally located. Retro and slightly grunge atmosphere. Country blues type music. Fun. Definitely recommended when in Austin Texas.
What a super fun time we had watching the Peterson brothers perform. Wonderful club for music lovers!
Good small venue for live music
Live music capital of the world right?Where else are you going to go? 😂😂The owner definitely, genuinely cares, and the staff you interact with most likely does as well. Occasionally they have slow nights regardless of music quality, but Id still purchase in advance if planning a first time visit
Such an excellent and intimate live music venue! Were visiting Austin and had the pleasure to listen to a great band at the Continental Club. The musicians were professionals and all performed really well - we had a blast!!! Cannot comment on the mixed drinks but we were happy with the beer selection. Overall, our experience at the Continental made our trip substantially better. Would definitely recommend this place to everyone who enjoys good live music at a great atmosphere!
Always love the Continental Club. My good friends Dash Rip Rock played in Houston and then on Saturday in Austin. Thanks for being such great hosts!
It has been many many years since Ive been to the CC. I was with a couple of girl friends of mine and we got there around 9:30. However, the guy at the door would not allow us in because you had to pay a separate cover charge for the next band. So they were clearing the place out . The guy at the front door was a jerk and very, very, rude. As he was telling us all this he allowed two very young girls to go through without stopping them, or checking their ID or anything. It was off-putting and I felt unnecessary. However, once inside the band was good, the service was excellent, the drinks were good and even though there was a line to get in, it was busy without being too crowded. I would recommend just requiring a cover charge regardless of time of day and whomever is playing so that you can avoid the unnecessary clearing of the establishment, confusion and rude guy at the front. You are the Continental Club after all. Really!?! This is the only reason for three stars.
This is a legendary venue. Dale Watson was absolutely the best show. I had so much fun and it’s so rich in history. It’s a must experience type of place.
I very rarely leave reviews as I understand how owning a business can be very difficult. But I will say, I had 12 of my team at this bar and dont recommend if you have a large crowd. While I understand keeping employees is important, knowing you have a highly irritable bouncer can be dangerous. I spoke to the manager about an incident and while I understand he took the bouncer (pool table) side in the instance, this persons behavior is irrational and dangerous. He was incapable of understanding a persons physical disability and chalked it up to being impaired by alcohol. I will say 100% that was not the case and he got physical with her as she was limping. To the manager, I ask that you think twice with this bouncer. Tread carefully with large parties as from our experience they are not trained to handle that.
We were waiting outside to get in to hear the band playing and met some wonderful people . We had a blast!. This is not a large venue; it is just the perfect size for really enjoying the band on the stage. Cover was reasonable, as well as the drinks! just a short Uber ride from our Hotel downtown. Cant wait to come back!!!!
What an Austin icon. Add this to your list of must visit Austiny locations.
I consider this my home bar even though I pass a dozen or more great live music venues to get there this is the BEST! We love the employees and the entertainment is always incredible. Theres so many good shows just go check out their calendar on their website and pick one. Theres plenty of locals there but we are all very welcoming to visitors and love to share the greatest live music venue in Austin with everyone that comes to visit!
Worst service ever. Walked in happy to check out a new spot in Austin but while ordering the bartender asked How much have you had to drink? I replied with 1 drink, she then proceeded to say, you seem thirsty. I immediately felt uncomfortable. My drink tasted terrible. I dont trust I got what I ordered. Not a good experience. Watch out at this bar. Brunette bartender with glasses needs fired. Wish I could give zero stars. Highly recommend the White Tiger next door, awesome people with excellent service!
Showed up with a party of 4 at 9:30, we’re told the show was at 10:15, paid $48 to get in, after buying more drinks the show never came on by 10:50, asked for our entrance money, had an extremely rude exchange with the doorman to get our money back and left empty handed with no live music. Waste of money that we could have gone for free at any non live music bar in the citt
Smaller than I expected. Bar staff was great! Dale Watson was very good, would definitely see him again. Dance floor is a bit small, but we made do. Overall a very good experience and would go back.
Cool little and I mean little spot. Great live music. Reasonably priced drinks. Its like going to a house party in NYC with the cool casual Austin vibe. Definitely recommend you experience one of their live music sessions.
I have been going to the Continental Club for a few years now. My first time there was during Lonestar Roundup. One of my favorite bands does five nights there, so I spent a lot of time there right off. Even though it was insanely busy, the staff was on it and friendly. Its small, but the energy in there was huge.
Had a great (first time) visit and heard a B52s cover band. Place had some seating, good beer selections, good prices. Id definitely go back again.
We could not come to Austin and not visit the Continental Club. Its reputation as an awesome music venue is wide spread. The have a happy hour Monday through Friday from opening to 7pm.This is a fun dive bar that has great music and cheap drinks. Dress was relaxed and casual. Seats are scarce so if sitting is important arrive early. If you dont arrive early you will be standing the entire evening. Standing is not a problem if you enjoy connecting with the energy the room. There was plenty of dancing and lots of smiles. The service was friendly and quick. There is a calendar of entertainment on their website with other details that can be helpful.
Best place to catch live music! Our go-to when in Austin!
The Continental Club is a great place to enjoy some great music while on S. Congress. I always try to hit this spot earlier in the evening because it can get really busy later in the night. I think I really like the bands that are their regularly. Great blues place. Its always fun to be here! I highly recommend it!
Continental club came highly recommended and we were looking forward to an evening of good blues. AND THE BLUES WERE GREAT! Unfortunately, the bar tender was not. We arrived around 5:30 pm and were thoroughly enjoying the band. My 3 friends got a round of drinks, their first of the evening. We went back for a second round and were told we were too intoxicated. We literally were sitting in the back of the room in the provided seating area listening to the music, doing nothing out of the ordinary. I asked for an explanation, the bartender said we had clearly been drinking all day. I told her we had just arrived downtown, she said she had to do what her manager said. I asked to speak to the manager. The manager said she backed her bartender and couldnt legally serve intoxicated people. I asked how we were overly intoxicated and she just said she trusts her bartender. Unfortunately the night we had highly anticipated ended quickly because we did not feel welcome.
Good music but the cover is $10 (includes only the entry) and the beers are ridiculously expensive (up to $10 dollars + mandatory 20% fee). For that money Id pour the beer myself. I think this qualifies as a tourist trap. Abort, abort!
Great venue to check out local bands. Good vibes. The staff here are friendly.
Owner/manager wasnt very friendly, but amazing music, great sound, perfect venue.
It was great! Not to pricey and the bartenders and waitresses and bartenders were awesome! One pet peeve though... Soul Man Sam was plating and I thought he was opening for Dale Watson... But they ushered everyone out and then the second crowd came in??? I found that odd but maybe Ive been home too long! Both shows were awesome! Forgot how much I loved Dale!💓💓
Awesome experience! Willie Pipkin was on the keyboard and was so entertaining. The harmonica player was so talented and had. Great voice. I couldnt stop stomping my foot and clapping my hands and enjoyed every minute.
Love this place. Everytime I visit Austin, I visit this place. They have live music performances everyday and the cover charges differ depending on the artists performing. The club itself is small and had limited seating, so if you arrive late to the place for a popular artist, youll most likely have to stand. The bartenders are friendly. You can also get beer at the back but thats cash only. There is no food offered here.
Really cool and classic spot on soco (south Congress) in austin with a variety of live music. Small cozy place, fun atmosphere. Keep it up continental, support these folks for keeping austin as its meant to be. From alternative to house, country, indie. They play a lot of genres. Look them up. Even country dancing is available if you pick the right show.
Classic Austin! While the artists may not seem to have the space to throw a concert level experience, you wouldnt be paying attention. The music erupts from the stage, regulars are spinning and twirling right up front and always happy to bring in a novice. And most importantly, when you have absolute legends performing the space is the best music venue in the world. My friend and I sat back and witnessed a legend who played with the likes of Johnny Cash lead a band with new and very talented musicians continuing the tradition. When you go, you are guaranteed to see a legend or a star in the making!
A dive bar with good live music. The bartenders are friendly and the drinks are not overpriced. Note that the cover is cash only but you can use a card at the bar.
Beautiful and historic Club. Its a must do if youre into older music.
Live music was good, service not so much at first. Bartender did not know really what she was doing. Afterwards, with the waitress it got loads better. Parking is a guesswork. This place does have old charm but overall it is not one of the best places to go.
I went twice. The first time I was told to leave or pay the cover of $8 because some random performer was playing. Its cool I understand the business tactic however I did not appreciate being told by 3 people about the cover charge in a matter of 30 mins. I went in for one beer!! Other than that, the bar had a warm vibe, drinks were good, decent priced-- which is why I went back the second time.
Classic, live music venue with great acts. This place is timeless and classic. There arent many spots like this in the US.Stop in around five and avoid paying the cover and get some happy hours deals.A great Austin iconic bar. Dont change a thing, you are perfect just the way you are!!
The greatest small club venue in America bar none! Nothing more be said , its classic Austin and the heart beat of the Tx music scene! Not just a show , its an experience not to be missed and slap in the middle of the Austin S Congress scene , which is awesome in and unto itself! Bucket list stuff for sure , the Wednesday night shows are Americas best club show
Great music. Great vibe. Nat at the bar is the best. Shell make the trip worth it, if the music doesnt. Great bartender. Also check out C-Boys. Or just ask anyone in Austin when you get there and theyll tell you what I am.
Wonderful small intimate live venue located right on the main street of South Congress. Excellent sound system. Few seats inside so arrive way to claim your place. Lots of neighborhood restaurants to go to before the show, all in walking distance of The Club. Excellent shows, we will be back.
$10 cover but the Peterson Brother Band(they play on Monday evenings) was well worth it. Nice drink pours/specials. Great mixed crowd. ladies the restrooms are clean!!
We visited The Gallery which is upstairs from the larger venue. Highly recommend! The music was fabulous and the bartender was friendly and helpful. We had fun watching a group of very talented dancers. Oh, and the bathrooms were surprsingly really nice!
Great place to pop into for live music. During the week it’s a more low key place than some others on Sixth Street. Cheap drinks and along a nice street.
Although I was not able to enjoy the live music slated for Saturday night, I did enjoy the ambiance of the club with its bluesy rock and jazz tunes in between the bands. Its a cool place to hang and socialize.
This classic Austin music dive never disappoints. Live bands 7 nights per week, early shows rarely have a cover charge. An amazing musical lineup of local, national and even international touring bands combined with reasonable drink prices make this my go to music venue.
They really need to step up their cocktail game.Response to the owner: Specifically the drinks were not good. An Old Fashioned is not made with crushed ice, only one large cube, otherwise it dilutes too quickly and too much. The Cosmopolitans were left on the table as undrinkable.
Cant beat the daily line-up of amazing musicians who play this stage! Staff is super friendly and accessible. Classic real deal Austin live music venue!
Such a cute space. The performer we saw was a very nice older gentleman and they were a blast to watch. I didn’t like the drinks but you don’t go there for a drinking.
Not usually my scene, but I am glad I stopped by while I was in town. I really enjoyed my evening with Nikki Brown. She had a wonderful voice and had a talented supporting cast. Low key atmosphere, somewhat similar to what I anticipated being a New Yorker. I thought the $15 cover was high. I usually pay $10 in NY. Aside from that, it was a fun evening and I also love that I didnt have to pay for parking.
On a Friday night, this place is a great venue for live music. Many people use this stop as a starter before heading downtown for the other clubs. If you enjoy good music and a slimming of the crowd after midnight, this might be all you need.
This place is great! Very friendly staff and bartenders and the music was PHENOMENAL! If your in Austin and enjoy live music youve got to check this place out! We will definitely regularly visit here on our trips to Austin!
They have a really cool patio.
Just got charged me for FULL bottle of mineral water to make a single Ranch Water!!!! WTH is happening? My single Ranch Water was $13 with cheap tequila. Hilarious, AND embarrassing for the dude bartender....... NEVER, EVER has that happened, nor will again. Who charges for a full bottle of drink mix? THAT guy. Be wary of the guy who hands you a whole bottle of mix WITH your drink. Whats the next charge, full bottle of tonic, Coke with your Crown, ice, wah? ON TOP OF THAT BS, THEY UPCHARGED ME FOR RESPOSADO WHEN I DIDNT REQUEST IT. Hell, I dont even think they have that brand in respodo! WHAT A TRAINWRECK OF JR BARtending! Feels intentional, straight up. Bet the Irish guys got killed. Here, even non-local Texans get screwed afterall.......
I saw Jo James last night with killer back up musicians and can not believe the quality of the show with no cover! What a great talented group and Jo is amazing. Highly recommend seeing him ( I downloaded his latest LP this morning.
Truly the best club in Austin. The best music coolest staff. Best place for dancing, Adult beverages and local color
We came through from some time we spent in San Antonio, and wanted to hear a band that a friend of ours recommended, so we headed to the Continental Club for our first visit. Not knowing what to expect, we were a little on edge.Walking up the street to the venue, the old school signage and vibe was already looking good. Then we went inside, and it was glorious! A true dive bar, but just dripping with music history (for instance, Stevie Ray Vaughan had his album launch party at The Continental Club?? On that same stage??). We heard the band and it was great. The bar staff were great, too. Highly recommended.
Fabulous live music both at the main downstairs venue and at the side room upstairs. There were shows at 6:30 (free), 10, and midnight ($10 cover) tonight
Its always a great place to hang & listen to some fine music!
Went twice on Saturday. The matinee set was great and free. But the late night set was horrendous! Paid the cover and got inside and what the band lacked in talent (and that was a lot) they a attempted to make up in volume. Had one drink and left disappointed.Continental is a great live music club. I was just unlucky that Saturday night
Went to see a band Antonio something or other their music was Lively and the place was very happening people on the inside here are friendly bartenders and wait staff are definitely on the job they do not make you wait very long for a drink at the bar where we stood and they definitely take care of watching over your drink to see it going low and theyre offering you another drink before yours is even done they are constantly keeping an eye on the customer satisfaction in a place that was so small and jam-packed with people they are doing a great job in this place with the music as well as with the crowds and also with the bartending and the wait staff serving promptly I have been here one time before several years ago and decided to stop in to see this band that was playing on their schedule and I will definitely continue to check the schedule for good bands and good music I recommend this place for sure! I may see you there
This was my first visit & besides having a long line to get in, standing room only inside, the band FlyJack was AMAZING! The talent was over the top!! Had me zoned in & absorbing the energetic vibes till 2 a.m in heels! Been in Austin since 84- Ive been missing out!
Come for the experience. Tickets at the door are $10 a pop. The bouncer wasn’t the friendliest when we asked if food was being served inside (since our show was a 8pm gig) and he said “no” to which we asked “can we bring food?” “if you want, but we don’t like it” (he later elaborates that it’ll be fine if we clean up after ourselves). Came on a Saturday night and it wasn’t full. Saw Soulman Sam for $10. The club was OK. Smells of a place with not much ventilation and average acoustics.
Saw The Paladins play last night (4/12/19) and if was AWESOME! Our names were on the list for friends of the band and we got in with no hassle, anytime we went to get drinks, we were at the bar for less than a minute before being helped (considering it was a packed house, thats AWESOME!), bathrooms were clean... ish... And we had a great time. Ill DEFINITELY be back there again!
A No-Frills iconic Austin venue with friendly staff. Get there early to get a spot close to the stage, the place usually gets pretty crowded but everyone is understanding and we are all there for the music. We recently went to see Jesse Dayton open for Horton Heat and decided to splurge for two of the six VIP seats. At first we felt crammed-in to the spot at the bar just to the left of the entrance, however it had a great (raised) view and the bartenders were attentive. Get there early to get the best choice of those six seats. Of course, Jesse rocked our socks off!!! His clever wit is greatly appreciated in these not-so-funny times.
Being in Austin one of the best known live music scenes in the US, I felt that if I didnt see some live music on my visit would be a catastrophic failure. So on my last full day in Austin, one of the main things on my list was to go see some live music, and the continental club was on the top of my list of where to go. Continental Club is a great and intimate place to watch music.
I’ve been coming here my whole life. Still the same cozy honky tonk that literally feels like a time machine in the best way possible. Stumble in on pretty much any night and you’ll find great live music.
One of the better places to see a show in Austin. Some good names roll through but the local unknowns dont disappoint at all. Sweet location too, lots of options to check out before or after a show. Its not the biggest spot so get there early.
Great music venue. Was able to easily get a good spot and see the stage. The band playing at the time was really good. One note: if you’re expecting fancy cocktails then this isn’t the place for you.
Great venue, Fantastic show.! Wait staff was attentive. Exceeded my expectations. Looking forward to coming back!
Came in after ACL for a late night show and the door man, can’t remember his name (white dude with overalls), told us our friend was over served. He was fine, but essentially ruined our night. 1st and last experience at the Continental Club. Thanks!
I was visiting for SXSW and was recommended this place by a local. It was exactly what I was looking for: A place to chill and have a quiet beer after a long day. A bad had just played, and though I missed it, the post-show vibe was reminiscent of Nashville (my hometown). If I lived in Austin, I know I would frequent this place.
Long haired kid door guy is a four eyed loser. The club is a tourist trap and way cooler places all along Austin.
I dont really go to bars, but I went to this one with a friend. It looks classical, and theres a nice band there too. The music is said to be Texan. When we arrived, it wasnt crowded. But when the band started singing, the place got crowded quickly.
This is an iconic Austin live music venue, where some very famous local musicians, mostly jazz, blues or rock, have played throughout the years. Located smack dab in the middle of the South Congress strip, The Continental Club attracts more of the 30-50 year old crowd than the early twenty somethings (perhaps due to the $10 cover).Service at the bar is fast and attentive; no frilly drinks or crazy infusions here. Just local beer and Jack n cokes here. If youd like a seat for the show, Id recommend arriving 20-30 minutes early, as the place can get packed depending on the night. They do have a small dance floor as well, if youd like to take a date out for a night of live music and dancing.
I was surprised how small this club was. The sound was loud but didnt drive me away. There is a variety of bands and some have a cover charge and some sdo not. Call or check in to find out. They have early music for happy hour.
Fantastic place to see music in a small venue, just be prepared to wait for drinks & get mashed while watching the show. There is probably going to be the obligatory drunk, pretentious ass that thinks that sitting is a good idea during a packed show& hates you for blocking his view ...
