My friend was charged for $1400 worth of massages without his consent. After many attempts to remedy this situation, massage envy staff refused to help. What this place has done to my friend is unacceptable. This will haunt him for life!
Massage Envy is ridiculous for expecting their clients/members to give them a minimum of 23% tip to 30% tip as suggested at their front desk. There’s literally a sign in front posted for it. It’’s shocking and appalling . Their masseuse aren’t paid the $5 an hour like waiters/waitresses at a restaurant, with no vacation /holiday benefits so why do they believe percentage minimum tip is even expected. So then their massage therapists EXPECTS THAT FROM CLIENTS. And you have to pay attention to the service times as well. 60 minutes paid service means 45 minutes, they shave off your time as well. This has happened to me more than twice. So you pay for 60 minutes for their package and gets jipped .AWFUL BUSINESS practice. Extremely off putting and I’d avoid them.
2 stars for absolutely absurdly poor management.Good Massage Therapists and Helpful Front Desk People. Great Location.However…Gone downhill the last few years. I don’t recommend becoming a member at this location. It has become a tacky customer experience with more excuses than massages.It is difficult to schedule a massage here due to turnover and low staffing issues. When I was able to schedule a massage-there was about a 25% chance it would be cancelled.Getting out of my membership that I had for years and years was a tedious process and they managed to get an extra month of fees out of me due to their own lack of efficiency and their dated gauche corporate membership cancellation policy.When I cancelled, I still had about $600 worth of unused credits accumulated (some leftover from Covid) which I still am willing to forfeit in order to prevent future similar losses.Talking to a manager is rare-the one woman I ever spoke to was bizarrely self-involved and didn’t even come through with the complimentary session I was promised when I showed up on site for a massage that they then cancelled on the spot.A few issues once in a while is fine, but the issues have been consistent for a couple of years now.Summary: Easy for the management to charge the credit card every month, difficult for the customer to receive a massage every month.
Management is not attentive to customers. I tried getting in contact with managers multiple times through the desk workers or over the phone and they were never available--honestly, I sensed disorganization. The ambiance in the massage rooms is good.
I booked my daughter a facial appointment on August 15, 2023 at the Memorial Drive location in Cambridge MA. Before booking the appointment, I spoke with customer service representative who answered the phone, Letitia, explaining the situation my daughter was facing with acne. I further questioned the 3 star rating & was told it was possibly due to communication. She recommended a specific aesthetician. After the service was completed, my daughter was in tears because there were no extractions completed doing the service. It was basically a facial wash. I reached out to Letitia immediately after the service and she said she would follow up with the manager. I waited three days and had to call back because I did not receive a call from the company. I finally spoke with Toni the account manager who was initially making excuses for the aesthetician, but in the end apologized for my dissatisfaction and recommended we come back for a discounted rate. I denied her offer because I was displeased with her combative conversation previously. I explained to her I was not looking for a discount of services, but more so a satisfaction of services.I think Leticia did a great job convincing me to book an appointment even with my skepticism, however I can now understand why this location does not a higher rating. My dissatisfaction is definitely with the service and the end result of my conversation with the manager.I want to attach this rating because Toni was not aware of the 3/5 star rating at the location she is managing.P.S. The employees names may be misspelled.
DO NOT do the subscription for this place. They make it seem convenient, but it is far from. They cancelled on me over 12x, made it incredibly difficult to unsubscribe, and refused to refund my unused credits when I moved out of Boston.For months the manager Raquel gave me the run around via email offering help, but never followed through. If you read prior reviews, you will see there are others who have had the same experience, which is disappointing.
This is by far my favorite location.. The therapist are very knowledgeable.. I worked with Tenzing today and she specializes in Sports/Swedish Massage. It was a good experience.Customer Service is great. Raquel did an amazing job at check in and checkout, very inviting and thorough..
Unfortunately this massage envy is super unorganized. A therapist left to take time off for herself which is GREAT and happens! However my much needed appointment that was scheduled far in advance was cancelled. The receptionist that called to inform me was really cool and kind. I wish i knew her name because they’re not all this kind. Some of them are really rude. I was also told that someone would call me back to schedule in for that particular day with another therapist and when i called back the next receptionist had no idea what to do or what was going on. Which is super frustrating. I’m a member and i don’t think i’ll be going back here.
Caressa was absolutely incredible. I could feel my muscle tension melting away like butter. Best massage I’ve had in nearly 2 years. And the front desk staff was so nice!!! I loved chatting with them as I checked out and they gave me awesome recommendations for other services I’m going to try next time I stop in. Definitely the best Massage Envy in Boston and the greater Boston area.
I can’t explain how wonderful it felt to go here and pamper myself. I went for a facial with Amelia and a 90 minute massage with Steven and it was an amazing experience. Amelia was so calming and understanding when it came to my skin. I have sensitive skin and she asked me questions about my skin to know what will work out for my skin the most. After the facial, my face felt so light, supple and it just glowed so much. I felt so beautiful, I couldn’t stop taking pictures. A facial with Amelia is a must for self care and I am already referring my friends and my hair stylist to her. The same with Steven, it was the best massage I’ve ever had. I have also referred my friends to Steven. I truly felt like a new person after. I have a very tight lower back, and we did a 90 minute deep tissue massage, and he was fantastic. He made sure I was comfortable, relaxed, and he made sure to focus on my problem areas. My back had never felt so loose ever! I felt like a new person! It was such a relief to not have that tightness and pain anymore. After the massage and facial, I was so relaxed that I went home and slept and relaxed the rest of the day. It was the perfect gift to myself for my birthday, and I will continue to go at least monthly as a new self maintenance and care routine for myself from now on. If you’re thinking about doing this for yourself, I would say just do it. You will not regret it. One last thing, this location was so inviting and professional. Danielle in the front desk made me feel so welcomed and she was so very polite to me. I can’t wait to come back.
Everyone who works here is very pleasant and professional. This is my favorite Massage Envy location.Caressa has bright smile and upbeat personality. You can tell that she really enjoys her work. She is very knowledgeable about different massage techniques and must have graduated first in her class when she was in massage therapy school. I feel very comfortable and relaxed whether I feel like chatting during the massage or just enjoying the massage. Caressa is like an artist in how she uses her hands and a doctor in her knowledge of human anatomy. Her main priority as a therapist is to understand the customer’s goals for the massage. I am very glad that I have found Caressa for my primary therapist because she has a great attitude and is very talented. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Caressa be promoted within Massage Envy to a director of training or move on to a top spa.
Management is not responsive to customers’ needs. I do not recommend their services. Period.
I had a great massage from Sean K. He addressed all of the problem areas that I had including some that I didn’t even know were causing me tension. This was followed by an amazing facial from Amelia. My skin felt rejuvenated and refreshed. Very relaxing too!
I had an amazing massage with Jonathan and a wonderful facial with Amelia. I had another facial scheduled in August. I am getting married soon and I got a “budget” of two facials and a massage as a wedding gift in preparation for the day. My budget was $300-$400, and I had it all planned out. However, I have decided to cancel the next facial and go elsewhere for the third. As I was checking out, there seemed to be a member of corporate there, who was pushing me to get the membership. I explained that I actually used to have the membership but I needed to cancel it due to financial struggles (I’m a teacher). They insisted that though the price has been raised to $75/month, it’s a good deal. I wasn’t doubting that I would save money then and there if I signed up for the membership, but these visits were a gift. I am also on an extremely tight budget as the wedding is very expensive and we just took on a mortgage. She told me that the person buying me the gift could just pay for a whole year, which is $900. That was certainly not an option. (You think they’d give a discount if you bought an entire year all at once, but I digress). She insisted until I told her “I’m sorry, I just can’t.” I then paid for my service and tipped my aesthetician. As I was about to leave, the manager continued about products, telling me that the results of my facial are pointless if I don’t maintain it with their $65 bottle of serum, and that they were 20% off. I again had to insist that it was not in the budget. I left feeling uncomfortable, feeling that I needed to resort to explaining my personal finances in order to get the pushy selling methods to stop. I worked in commission sales for years, and I understand the need for pushing for programs, incentives, and credit cards. However, my rule was “2 will do.” You ask twice in different ways, maybe offering incentives or deals, and if they say no, you stop trying. The first time I signed up for the membership, I was also pressured to do so, and I immediately regretted it upon leaving, knowing I could not afford it. I kept it for 2 years despite my services piling up and not being able to go monthly because I work multiple jobs. When my financial advisor told me I have to shave down my subscriptions, I had to forfeit all of the services I had paid toward, which stung. It should be made clear that the pushy selling was not by the front desk staff. The staff delivering massages and facials are also incredible. This seemed to be someone who was not often there, as she did state she wasn’t sure how to use the iPad because she’s not here very often. It seems I was just there on a day of a corporate visit. I will no longer be visiting Massage Envy and will find a small business to frequent.
I received an incredible massage (probably the best of my life) from SeanK. I appreciated his ability to understand pain points as an athlete and work through need areas. The next day I felt great and was able to jump right back into my training with ease. Caressa is also amazing and can really work through a deep tissue!I have also been working with Hannah on my skin care regiment over the last year and have been very pleased with her recommendations and the results.
The Cambridge location is very good & accommodated a last minute request for a facial. Had a massage with Christian & Facial with Amelia. Both excellent. Christian attended well to getting my tight spots loosened up. Amelia explained as she went - hot towel, technique of facial including massage of neck, arms & hands were amazing. TY
Cearssa was amazing! Not too many good firm/deep masseuses left but she is the one! Got so many knotted and stuff points around my body that I didn’t even know impacted the rest of the pains and stiffness I felt. I had a massive headache from the stiffness in my neck and I walked out with no headache at all :)
Sam is an excellent massage therapist. I always leave a session with him feeling great, and with tools to keep my muscles loose and healthy between massages. He’s also a great guy! Highly highly recommend.
Cambridge location: Sean K was good at his work! Was friendly but not chatty- straight to the business. Deliberate work, meaning he was mindful of problem areas or knots and tended to them until I found relief. I also told him which areas I wanted to focus on and he delivered exactly what I needed and more, meaning, I asked for a focus on shoulders so he approached the shoulders but also shoulder blades, range of motion, neck, etc. it was clear he was thinking holistically about what might be causing me problems.Already booked a follow up. I think I found my new person!
Mike N. is the best massage therapist Ive ever worked with, and Ive worked with a lot! I have chronic back pain/tightness and hip tightness that Mike is always a fantastic help with. Hes great a putting people at ease too, which I can feel is an important attribute in the field of massage therapy. Thanks Mike!
Mike is awesome! During our sessions he regularly checks in and explains why certain techniques are important and what they are good for. This is great for someone who is new. Hes the reason why I signed up for a membership! When I leave my shoulders and neck feel like jelly and all of the stiffness, soreness, and knots are eradicated. The first session I was sore for a day and a half but now that I go regularly I don’t feel much soreness after. It’s well paced he always has something new to bring to each session while building on previous techniques! Very communicative and knowledgeable. :)
The staff are all very friendly and I recommend seeing Caressa. She is very knowledgeable and knows what she is doing. I talk to her and tell her about the areas that are in pain or feel tight and she listens and takes care of it. She is proficient with deep tissue and more than proficient in trigger point therapy. Will go back again for another session!
Nerica is my new goto massage therapist!!! She listened to everything I had to say about all the spots that needed attention. She gave me one of the best massages I’ve had in a long time. Her pressure was exactly what I wanted nice and firm and she worked on my hips which were very tight. I’m definitely going to be a repeat customer!
As always it was a fantastic session. Arrived knotted and uncomfortable- left loose and limber feeling a million times better. Caressa is AWESOME. Interactive, funny and engaging she is an absolutely master!!! Ready for the next session already 😊
Ryan was great!! He applied the perfect pressure and focused on all the places I’d requested. He made sure to ask if I wanted more time in areas I said I’d like focus on. The location was clean and very professional. I’ve been to many locations and seen several therapists but this by far has been top experience.
I have been coming to this establishment for many years primarily for the god send that is Marla. She is not only the most lovely person and truly customizes your massage to your needs and pressure, but her hands are magic! Every time I leave from having a massage from her, I am in better spirits and experiencing less pain. I cannot sing her praises enough!
My wife and I went in for a 60-minute massage. We also ordered an exfoliating foot treatment ($15 add-on). The add-on basically reduced our massage to 40 minutes and the foot treatment was ~10 minutes. The whole session ended in 50 minutes.We basically paid more for less massage time. Not recommended.
I’ve had shoulder pain for nearly 10 years and have seen tons of massage therapists around the city and abroad. Jinglan is not only extremely kind, but her attention to each muscle is just eye opening and really relieves so much tension. Highly recommend as I go every month and would recommend doing an hour and a half it’s worth every minute for the self care!
After reading several of the reviews here, I was skeptical about trying this place.We had a couples massage booked and there were several things that was great and a few minor things that I believe can be better worked out.When we first arrived, we were nicely greeted by a gentleman. He gave us our paper work to complete, asked us about our area of focus which was nice. He also asked in advance if we needed to use the restrooms before we got started which was a good idea.One of my smaller complaints about the couples massage room specifically was that the massage beds are so far apart from one another. You literally have to scream to hear the other one when having your face down (one star deduction). The room was also very cold. A chilly breeze was coming from the top which wasnt great even though the beds were warm.MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT: the one hour massage is not actually one hour but rather a 45 minute massage (for us at least). When my partner asked her MT, we were told thats 10 minutes is assigned to actually getting changed (5 min before and 5 min after), so what about the rest?This is pretty unacceptable . It will not take anyone that long to simply undress and get under a sheet. Also, our MT were a few minutes late to start and a few minutes early to end according to that tiny digital clock in the corner. (One star deduction)As for the massage its self, (side note: I am physician so I am very familiar of the anatomical landmarks on the body), I have to say that my MT was on target with exactly what I needed to be done. Im not sure, maybe because she knew that I knew every specific muscle I was asking for, it made her pay closer attention. She did an amazing job. I was more than satisfied with her work.Once we were done, we were nicely greeted again outside and given a glass of water followed by our problems noted or general diagnoses of what they thought was wrong. Well as a physician I am very aware of specific issues I have. After all I have been treated by my fellow colleagues. To be told the things I was told seemed more like over exaggerated to make you think you have those problems and you need to come back.At the end, we were once again greeted by the front desk and I was getting ready to battle the NO THANK YOU I DO NOT WANT A MEMBERSHIP but thankfully we were only given a pamphlet about membership information which I thought was so much better than all the reviews I had read about pressuring customers into signing up. I also was happy to leave a gratuity separately for both me and my partners MT without feeling pressured to do so.I would certainly be happy to come back as a regular but I would be willing to do that if my one hour massage is one hour and not 45 minutes.
A few weeks ago arrived to the facility for a 90 massage. I was told a few minutes before my appointment that there was an emergency. I have not received a call from anyone to offer a complimentary service, or yo rebook.
Mike Nguyen helped me avoid having deeply debilitating pain from longstanding inflammation and a frozen hip by loosening and popping over 20 lactic acid bubbles near my joints over five 90-minute sessions. He understands how to reach the deepest layers of tissue/muscle and can quickly diagnose the places where deep tissue massage will benefit the body. All elbows, finger kneeding, and pressure, he will gladly sweat out his efforts to help you heal. I am very grateful to him for his dedication to Physical Therapy and Sports Massage. Plus, he gives great recipes for good dishes! Fun and talkative, I have enjoyed his personality and plan to keep going back, as I am a serious athlete and will need his expertise to keep from painful injury.
I was nervous because of the reviews but I needed a massage so bad ! Booked same day and seen SAMC ! He was so professional and made me feel comfortable . Marla was great she took the time to understand my needs and customize my massage. I am not particularly fond of all the covid restrictions but that is no fault of staff. The cloth case you have over your face made it hard for me to breath.

Great service and a really kind staff. I was seen by Hiwot for a 60 min massage targeting a shoulder pain. She was a perfect help and my body feels incredible now!
The location was great very clean and staff was friendly. However, the quick fix massage was a joke as they use a massage gun for 30 minutes and the gun did nothing. Don’t waste your money on the 30 minute quick tension fix. A waste and I’m still in the same pain as I was.
Carlos was amazing! He found and fixed most of my problem spots. I wish I had more than the 60 minute time allotment because my back needs serious work, but he really got the job done.
I was very stressed out, I have depression and signed up to get some relief. The man who massaged me asked me if I would get in an upward dog pose which would expose my chest. I felt very uncomfortable and I declined. Also, I was supposed to get a full body massage, but he only worked on my back the whole time. I called and left a message with the front desk to speak to a manager, but never got a call back. I havent felt comfortable to go back there since, although I feel I deserve some sort of reimbercement. The two stars are mainly for the really kind sweet girl with short colorful hair at the front desk who I originally signed up for my membership with.

I have been a member for a couple years now but needed to pause my membership due to a surgery. I had a few remaining massages to use and when I showed up to use one after scheduling it, they had cancelled it without telling me and had no availability prior to my operation. I have called several times, walked to this location looking to get this resolved without any help from the staff. I have asked to speak to a manager and have received zero response or acknowledgement.

This location is extremely hard to schedule with. I was canceled on multiple times. I decided to cancel my membership as a result and it was extremely challenging to book for all the accrued hours I needed to use up.
Javier has been excellent to work with on some pesky deeper muscle tightness. The center itself is well run and well-located in Cambridge with easy parking and welcoming staff.

I had some membership issues. I noticed I was not on the optimal account type within hours of signing up, and tried to rectify the problem by phone, to no avail. I submitted this concern online and received a return email that stated, Once a membership is processed, there is no way to go back and edit it so unfortunately, there is nothing we can do... They are using their own arbitrary policy to absolve themselves of any responsibility to provide customer service.It is now a week later and they have refused to fix the issue. At the very best interpretation, this was a miscommunication that ME refused to fix. At its worst interpretation, I was purposely tricked into paying more $. Either way, ME has refused to provide even the minimal level of customer service needed in order to rectify the problem.Edit: I have received very good service since the above post, so I am changing my review to 4 stars.
My masseuse Timi was excellent, she relieved the tightness is my back that’s bothered me for months. I highly recommend Timi to anyone who’s had persistent pain.
