Its was my time here. Came with my friends. The food was so delicious that we had some garlic nans and chicken curry along with the most delicious ghee roast chicken appetizer. Quite place, everything great but the service is off tonight dont know the reason. They have to work on it for sure.thank you.
This is the fastest review I have ever wrote. I ordered garlic naan along with rest of my food. They charge 5 USD for this size of naan. Is this a joke. I lost my hard earned 5 USD. I am not the one who writes review very frequently, but could not stop myself. Beware folks. Don’t lose your hard earned money. Already regretting.
They had the best chicken 65 and telegana goat curry! I would absolutely recommend it. I want to visit again to try the other recommended dishes. Prices were standard, considering its Boston/Cambridge.Easily among the best Indian restaurants in the Boston area in terms of food, although I think people dont know about this place because maybe its not advertised as well (?) and the restaurant environment could be made more appealing. The service was fine; servers were friendly and food was served on time. But when I went, it was not busy. So I dont know how the service would be in peak hours.
Today I ordered a Tiramisu cake from this restaurant and was extremely disappointed with my purchase($7.99). When the cake arrived, it was clear that it was spoiled. The texture was off, the cream had a sour taste, and the overall appearance was unappetizing. It was evident that the cake was not fresh and had likely been sitting out for too long.I will not be ordering it again and would advise others to be cautious when considering their products. A spoiled cake is unacceptable, especially when it comes to something as delicate as Tiramisu.
I have probably been to Tanjore like multiple times. Every time I think of something quick, good food, cheap drinks and casual I go to Tanjore. Tanjore has some Nepali food and Indian food as well as basic bar food. I have basically tried everything there and every single dish is good. I love their momo, tikka masala, probably one of the best briyani and their wings are bomb as well. Tanjore is cheap and food quality is amazing.
Ive revised my review of Tanjore Bar and Restaurant to a mere 1 star, downgrading from my initial 2-star rating. The atmosphere remains puzzling – is it a bar, a restaurant, or a nightclub? The disjointed experience persisted, exacerbated by multiple servers attending to me in an almost empty room. Despite the decent food, the loud music made dining a challenge, and the prices seemed more aligned with a restaurant. However, what prompted the downgrade was the realization of the prevalence of fake positive reviews, which misrepresents the true experience. With this in mind, I cannot recommend dining here, as there are likely better options to explore in Cambridge.
We went to dine in looking at the name Tanjore restaurant . Assumed that southern Indian food will be served as Tanjore is in TamilNadu. But So disappointed and then had to eat regular northern Indian Dishes. But food was good and place was Alright to dine in.
Nice restaurant with great Indian food . Kids loved the special order made Egg Fried Rice . Mixed veg pakora was ultimate .
I started going to this bar for the cheap beer when it first opened, and was never disappointed in that regard. They also had amazing chicken tenders with tasty sauces that kept my friend and I coming back. Now they have a full menu with incredible food. Perfect spice levels, the best naan I’ve had in Boston, and still, fantastic beer prices. The staff is friendly and kind and it has been a joy to see them grow. I rave about this spot to all my friends, and will keep going as often as I can. Thank you for good food, beer, and great vibes!
The best chana masala ever! I wouldnt hate it if there was less oil in it.
Excellent Andhra Chicken Curry! I ordered it mild - after a bite or two, it was just right. Fun people behind the bar too, good atmosphere for watching playoff baseball. I SHALL return!
As a bar at 10pm on a Saturday, service was abysmal, took forever, and tried to overcharge for an undersized beer. The mojito tasted like straight simple syrup. Bars have one thing to get right: drinks. Seems they don’t know how. The atmosphere inside was clean with bright new colors, but felt kinda off, maybe a little creepy.
The portions are kid size portions and the food doesn’t taste at all good . I wouldn’t recommend any Indian food lovers from this place.
This place is the best. Stopped in for a drink ordered a couple apps. Pavin at the bar was so personable & explained & recommended the food for us. Raj was also great. We will definitely be back here
Very nice food loved their spicy boneless chicken biryani
Everytime I come in, everyone is always welcoming and I always connect with such great people. The bartenders make great conversations. Especially, Zorro. He makes the best cocktails. Better yet, ask him to surprise you, you wont be disappointed! 😊
Great place to have friends for a bday or any sort of gathering. Drinks are well priced, oh and did I mention the food is incredible. The chicken curry was amazing and some of the best I’ve had around Boston. The owners were very kind. Great hidden central spot to get drunk at and eat some curry.
The holi event they hosted was genuinely one of the worst experiences of my life. Nightmarish. Will remember forever.
Super tasty food but for the prices its a very small serving. disappointed
Good Indian sports bar but the food is not that great to charge 20$ an item
What a great add to the neighborhood! We were sad when People’s closed, but thrilled that Tanjore has taken its place. It’s great to have a stand by with a solid, fairly priced beer list, great food (we have enjoyed both the ‘standard pub fare’ like chicken tenders as well as the Nepalese / Indian food), plays sports on multiple screens with the sound on, and has a comfortable casual vibe.
This place has super weird vibes and the staff is unfriendly. The music was way too loud, couldn’t even talk to my friend. Police came by multiple times throughout the night. Also saw them giving delivery drivers orders from the trunk of a car in the driveway. Would not recommend.
I came in for lunch a few months ago. They were new and seemed promising, so I stopped in again to get a drink and unfortunately observed a significant decline in quality. This time I ordered a long island ice tea. One of the reasons I go to a bars is to admire the bartender’s craft. My drink was however made with a Keurig style machine, and in addition to that, arrived incorrectly made. I told the bartender that it was made incorrectly, and he placed a new ice cup right under the spout of the machine and made a new incorrect ungarnished drink. It seemed he was a bartender with no idea of how to create a simple cocktail.
We went for the lunch buffet. The butter chicken was very dry and lacked much flavor. The chili chicken was much better in terms of chicken as well as flavor and spice.
Their lamb pepper fry had nice kick and crunch. Chicken 65 and biryani delicious as usual. Love Tanjores authentic Indian flavors!
Achi was lush, would definitely recommend this little hidden gem! 100% worth visiting! Perfect ice cold sam adams 🤘🏽
People coming gere and wait 40-50 min. u need change your team or closed this place!!!!!! im never come back!!!!
Had some of the best Indian food here. The kicker is we thought it was an Irish pub, and boy were we pleasantly surprised when we walked in and found out it was an Indian food pub. Service was amazing.
Came with friends for lunchFood was very disappointed ☹️Chicken 65 was dry like serve pakora biryani was tastelessServer didnt came once in table to see the feedback of food no musicOrder papad took a hour restaurant was slow not so busy no condemned serve with any food unless biryani all the corner of resturant was cold
My sons friend and he went for food, but they charged my son twice instead of charging both cards. Not willing to refund and tell us that we are blaming them. Poor customer service with bad service at the restaurant (messed up the order there)
More of a dive bar that serves good indian food than an Indian restaurant. Good selection of beer for $6 which is crazy. Kitchen stays open late, and the food is very good (although would love a spicier option). Im surprised this place isnt more crowded
Great food and great people. Very friendly atmosphere. Will come here again!
Chicken 65 had amazing flavor. Telangana goat curry was perfectly spiced. Tanjore just gets Indian food right every time.
Great food, friendly staff, cheap cheap drinks! And never slammed like the rest of the places in Central. Go before it becomes too popular!
I will echo what others have said that the event security are aggressive and its insane that the business owners would agree to have all their patrons kicked out so the event (karaoke 🤦🏻♂️) can collect a cover charge. We were given an ultimatum, stay and pay or leave (huh? Ive already been here spending money). Most of the bar immediately emptied and the security was still harassing and corraling people outside on the sidewalk.
Place looks good but didnt have a great experience with the food. Chicken biryani was average, veg chowmein was salty drenched in soya sauce. Buffalo sauce dipped chicken wings were a disaster. Hence the 2 star.
PSA: Do not go here, as the security guard may attempt to steal your ID.The security guard confiscated our IDs and refused to give them back for around 30 minutes, during which time she was physically and verbally threatening toward the female members of our group. We ended up having to call the police over to prove our IDs were real and force her to return them. Meanwhile the owner was a bystander who admitted that they dont have an ID scanner and simply smoked a cigarette outside while this all unfolded. That said, even if you get into the bar incident-free, youll have only gained entrance to a building that smells like a sewer.
Pretty unique setup for an Indian restaurant. Has more of a sport bar vibe that serves awesome Indian food. The Vindaloo and the bread (similar to parantha) were fantastic.
Could taste the effort that was put into making our order satisfying. We had placed a big order of chicken wings and all the different types of flavours were delicious.
Garlic Naan was indisputably from trader joes, and despite its small size for its price, it was the best part of the meal.
An up and coming Cambridge bar with the twist of an Indian food menu. Its usually not busy but the staff are friendly and the drinks are cheap. Not a cocktail bar, but they have at least a dozen brews on tap and TVs to watch the game.
Had dinner last night amazing food , paneer 65 was very soft and made me rember indian street food, veg fried rice made me feel my home town so yumm
Super tasty and super cheap ($12!) lunch buffet with a great variety of options. You get free tea with the buffet, and super hot fresh bread that they are continuously churning out. My favorite part of the buffet are the pakoras and that DELICIOUS chicken curry - its super tasty especially with that naan bread. Overall, I highly recommend this place!
Wonderful food. Tried their goat fry biriyani very very tasty. Good service too. Love to visit again.
Amazing food , tried Telangana goat curry and boneless chicken biryani . So good and yum.Love to visit again
Tanjore is my new fav Indian restaurant in the Cambridge area! Fresh, flavorful, filling food w/ generous servings for the price (and enough to take home as leftovers!). We ordered the samosas, Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Korma, Paneer Saagwala, and Chicken Biryani and my oh my - SO delicious!!! Staff are also really friendly. Cant wait to come back :)
Food was not at all good, even if you order extra spicy they will serve you sweet food. Doesn’t suit for Desi’s
This place rocks.Great food, good seating, friendly staff. Best bar in walking distance for chilling with friends and having a drink.
This is a very special place to be the food is great the people are the best i and it is diverse inexpensive and you never know who might drop by come to taquery and support the cause of life! I am Ian Anderson and Billy jo!
The food quantity that is being served is very less and also they are taking lots of time in serving ordered food.
Food is really good , I just flew to India so authentic biryani and pepper fry is a must try .
Once you get inside, you will feel there are just few items in buffet. But everything is there. It doesnt have many many unwanted dishes. Whatever dishes they have , all are delicious and authentic. The restaurant is perfect 👌 .Beautiful ambience, super friendly and humble staff, delicious food with chai added. And prices is decent and affordable.
I am a vegetarian, I find this place is absolute bliss for indian food must try veg items paneer penner fry and paneer pasanda is so soft and delicious, amazing service
I would love to tell this place has the best chicken fried rice I recently had in my times , loved it with chilli garlic mushroom .
Fantastic restaurant on Mass ave.! Both bartenders are fantastic. Also tons of TVs and cheap beer for sporting events. I recommend!
This was some of the most blandest “food” I’ve had. I’m not even going to call this Indian food. Ordered with GH, and they have a 5-star rating there. Only reason why I went with it. Should’ve looked a little harder at their 3-star rating.Such a waste. Everything was in a weird brown sauce that tasted bad. Save your money.
I’ve been eating Indian food for years and this is hands down the best i’ve had. Their chicken 65 is a Cambridge staple
The sign outside states theres specials; when you go in, the bartender states there isnt. I asked about the lunch menu and was told its the same menu as the dinner menu with the same prices and portions. 🤷♀️🤯
First off, we walked in because they were selling 2$ PBR. How do you turn down a 2$ beer, even if PBR?Second, there are a couple of confusing points to get out of the way. The old standby Peoples Republic bar is gone, a victim of COVID and THIS Tanjore has moved in taking its place. Tanjore itself was an old Harvard Square standby, but that location is no more, also a victim of COVID, but THIS Tanjore is now reincarnated as of the Summer 2022 in this new, if classic, location. So to the food. We had tasty Indian binari and Nepali mo mo dumplings, both good, and as already mentioned we had the throwback 2$ PBR - admittedly a promotion, but shaving two decades off the price of a beer, thats amazing - and in Cambridge, who knew it was possible. They also had a good selection of 6$ drafts. Also amazing. So go. Give it a try. Its worth it, and while there, offer a toast in mourning to the old Peoples Republic, may its memory live on.
This is my go-to spot for Indian lunch buffet for three reasons: 1) all you can drink chai 2) delicious, delicious goat curry, and 3) its relatively cheap! There isnt a great selection for vegetarians.
I went there today, and oh my goodness, what a complete 180 in the service that Ive become accustomed to. Went in for the lunch buffet, but at the end of our meal we were informed that their credit card machine was down. This apparently happened shortly after wed walked in, and nobody informed us. Then, when using the ladies room, there were mouse droppings all in the corner. We wont be returning. No thanks.
We were really excited to get our main dishes because the appetisers (samosa and chicken pakora) were amazing! We ended up being slightly disappointed with the curries. They were OK but lacked in flavour and spices. Not bad, just not amazing. The service was just fine, quick and friendly. I would go back there and choose something else just to see if we were simply unlucky with our choices.
The restaurant owner recognized me from a game show and gave me and my friend our meals for free. He was so full of life, joy, and kindness and was truly dedicated to customer service. The fact that the Chicken Chettinad was on point was just the cherry on top😋
In terms of location, its very convenient next to a bus stop & the Red Line. Service is top-notch. Prices are more than affordable. Upbeat vibe.
The food was okay. The spices were very interesting and I was told by someone whod been to India that it seemed authentic. However: it made me feel a bit sick after, mostly because I found a dark, curly hair in my creamed spinach. Gross.
Best Indian food I’ve had in Cambridge. Cool vibes at old Communist Bar
Had a good time. Great selection of appetizers.Friendly staff and great service .
Our favorite Indian restaurant in the area. We order take out frequently: they tell us it will be 45 minutes and theyre usually here in 20! The lunch buffet is good too
The new owners are very friendly. The ambience is very cozy and chic. Beer prices are decent. Definitely worth visiting if in town.
Flavors out of this world. Gobi 65 is incredibly delicious
When we asked for spicy biryani ( we said spicy times), it was so good and spicy that we were coughing with every bite. The owner was so sweet, he came to speak with us, asked us if we wanted to return it but we loved it, and later gave us free kulfi to satiate the spice!
The name is very misleading for anybody expecting the food to match taste of authentic South Indian cuisine. Location & accessibility - very good, ambience - average, service - not good, stale chutney was served which was replaced with refrigerated chutney which was not any good either. delicacy - forget it. [Above was based on the order made on South Indian combo that included 1 idli, 2 vada, 1 dosa, 1 sambar and 1 shrimp biryani. ] idli was extremely fragile, sambar was served boiling hot and average in taste, vada was not consistently fried, dosa was hugging potato gravy as if if they were just married :D thus killing the crispiness of dosa.] All in all - a total waste of time and money.
Visiting from jersey. absolutely amazing. food knocked my socks off and pricing is more than reasonable
Most authentic Indian food i’ve had in Boston by far, the biriyani I had was delicious
What a beautiful place to spend my First Night of 2023. Thank you Tanjore!! Best food with Vegetarian Momos and Nepali Bhel.
Delicious Food. We had ordered for a group of 75 people. The quantity was really good enough. And the rates are very good. Food is also tasty. Enjoy your time here.
Tanjore - to me is one of among of my best restaurants in Cambridge. Their service is incredible and joyful.
Lunch buffet is good, place was bustling. 10% discount with Harvard student ID which makes it very reasonable. Chicken tandoori and lamb dish were spot on.
Love the food here. The owner is a sweet guy. The Indian food here is the most authentic indian foor i have tasted. Being Indian myself, eating here brings back nostalgic memories ♡
Blasts music way too loud, keeping the entire neighborhood awake.Food is overpriced and mediocre.
Ill give 2 stars because the people were nice, but I did not enjoy the food. I threw a lot of the food away.
Stopped in for Patriots game and lunch. Food terrific. Service friendly and prompt.
Good food and a wide range of specialties. Had a hard time deciding because everything sounded really good and interesting. Quiet spot, reasonably priced. Wished I had gotten desert.
Appetizers were ok but avoid ordering the South Indian dishes. Very disappointed. Should have read the prior bad reviews before we went! They are accurate even after nearly 8 years!!
Not authentic Indian food at all. Lamb vindaloo was not hot but very tangy. Gulab Jamun was served dry and cold (as in directly out of the fridge). Horrible.
The food here is soo delicious and service is outstanding.
Must try. Gongura Daal and fried momos !Worth the price !!Will come back soon …
Total waste of Money. Not recommended. Place is over-hyped. Food is stale, no proper place to sit. Not hygienic & Overrated
Excellent place, impeccable service, amazing owners. I rarely give 5 stars, but this place truly deserves it. Don’t hesitate!
My go-to Indian place in cambridge. Solid saag panneer, a great lunch buffet, and a student discount! Love the guys here. They are willing to make things pretty spicy, which I am a fan of.
We went here very late for dinner, so it was very loud. Tasty food, friendly staff.
Love their food.. especially the starter mattari vegetarian food is very homemade types with not too many ridiculous spices other restaurants put. healthy good food so love it!
This is delicious! Best Indian food Ive had in the Boston area so far. Highly recommend the Chicken Vindaloo
The security guard tried to charge entry fee for this Indian restaurant. A scam out front. Can guess how the restaurant / bar would be.
Ordered rasa vadai and it tasted bitter. Achari bindi was sweet instead of spicy worst was veg biryani..total disaster no flovours or salt ! Dissapointing
Worst food I had in any restaurant in Boston.. Dont get fooled by the name. It doesnt have any relation to the taste or variety of food you get here. Also the staffs are not friendly. Onion oothapam was the only dish we ordered and it was bad...
Tasty indian food, have discounts for students. Its a bit inconvenient they open at 5 pm during weekends, so you cant have lunch in Saturday there.
Very mild, watered down spices, too sweet chat papri , vadas were very dry/hard not fresh, saroson saag was likely to be spinach rather than authentic mustard greens
Friendly and comfortable. good food, cold beer filled to the top of the glass
Best vibe for all of music highly recommended for Bollywood and Nepali lovers should show their move here.
Nice size portions, vindalo nice and spicy. Creme sauces a little on the boring side. Nice selection of vegetarian.
Great sports bar alternative in Cambridge. Love coming in here for fairly priced food and drinks to watch a game.
Very good food. Recommend the chicken momos and chicken 65.
The place is quiet and neat.Limited menu but good food.
Good Indian buffet with samosa, chai in Harvard Square for less than $12!. Finding on street parking is a problem, but there is a paid parking garage right next to the restaurant.
They have a student meal deal of $13. You pay $14 and get an entree with rice of your choice, a naan and a samosa. Best deal!
Really, really yummy food, low-key atmosphere, pleasant people - just what we wanted!
Welcoming environment, awesome food, awesome services, great people :) :) Been there twice and gonna be regular customer. :) 😋 😋
Hands down, Tanjore is the best Indian food in Harvard, especially after Cafe of India closed. The layout is a bit weird though, like theyre not sure if theyre a restaurant or a bar.
One of it’s kind in Indian cuisine , amazing food .
The best delivery option for indian in the somerville/cambridge area. I hope the food remains consistently as good as it is right now - Im sure this will become a delivery staple for my household.
Affordable lunch buffet in harvard square. They have variety selections and they rotate each day. Very delicious food. Unlimited Naan!
Really tasty Indian food for a reasonable price! Definitely better than Maharaja next door.
Delicious! Went here twice in a month! The student deal is really good you get naan, a samosa, rice, and a dish for like $14
Boneless chicken biryani is amazing , love this place .
The lunch buffet has a variety of options - from chaat to desserts. Located near Harvard University makes it an ideal place to grab meals.
Good Indian food
Best taste in Boston so far!! It manages to get authentic taste of all dishes it serves and its cheaper in comparison to other similar restaurants :)
My favourite place throughout my time at Harvard. Delicious food and very friendly staff. Check out their buffet.
By far my favorite indian restaurant in Boston. The Chaat Papri is amazing and the tikka masala is great. Staff is very nice.
Very average food. Sambar was watery and no dish we ordered tasted close to South Indian or even Indian.
Such good food! And cheapest beer in Boston!
Food is okay, over-salted. Music is loud and obnoxious.
The lunch buffet is quite nice. I like the puri chaat that you can put together yourself. Thats a bit less commonly seen.
Great food, nicely priced drinks, great staff!
Great atmosphere, nice food and affordable price
Food is always delicious, staff is always polite, place is clean. Favorite dish there is the chicken tikka masala.
Place is awful. Dont know what they call it Tanjore when the food has absolutely no connect to South Indian food. No parking. Ordinary service. Stay away!
Weird vibe, but they kept the murals from when it was the Peoples Republic and those are tight
Great food! Amazing service!!
Great food and ambience. Also Great people. Reasonable price for food and drinks.
Awesome place highly recommend
Just tried to give this place a 5 star review only to find I already did that 2 years ago. So I guess I agree with myself, this place is incredible!
Worst food I have ever tasted in any resturant!. Dont belive with the name and go for South indian food!.
Great weekday local bar—fantastic TVs for football games, Guinness on draft
Best Indian restaurant in Cambridge!Outstanding food and great service.
Food was great! Would definitely go back, best Indian food ever!
Great for lunch buffet in Harvard Square; also does catering orders in advance.
Good Punjabi place to eat with South Indian theme :-) Have fun... dont miss on the Saag & Rajma
Great wings and tasty beer (had Taj Mahal)
Decent Indian food - not as good as Maharaja qualitywise, which is just around the corner.
Fantastic tendies, cheap beer. What more do you need?
Good portions for a fair price. The buffet is excellent too.
Good Indian food. The brunch is pretty unbeatable in the Cambridge area.
Wonderful place. Wonderful food
Amazing service and Food is authentic
Dont expect authentic food here... Forget about South Indian... You may get Americanized Indian food.
A GOOD INDIAN OPTION IN AN AREA NEARLY OVER-RUN WITH INDIAN OFFERINGS. HUGE MENU AND FRIENDLY SERVICE AS WELL.
Nice buffet spread, authentic indian flavours, close to T station
Food was good and specially masala dosa and sambar.
Good ambiance and good serving
Not a good choice, its NOT at all a SOUTH INDIAN HOTEL as its name says. Dont get fooled by the name.
Best Nepali flavor chow mein.
Best vibe. Best for sports.
I love the chicken tikka tandoori. This is my favorite Indian restaurant.
Good service varun was a kind server good food
One of the most cost effective buffets for south Indians
The place is closed, could not locate the restaurant via google maps.
Food was authentic and affordable. Cleanliness debatable.
Great buffet, good authentic Indian food
Noodles and samosa chat was amazing
Have great time with kind employees
Good food, slow but courteous service
The food was very authentic. The service was excellent.
Cheapest Indian buffet in the area, and generally friendly staff.
Amazing buffet. . And I tried alot of them in the Cambridge area
Nothing good about their food except their prices are low.
Excellent Indian food and service.
Best lunch buffet around. Period.
Good food and good service 👍🏻we like it🔥
My go-to for takeout Indian food in Harvard Square.
Great tasting South Indian food.
Only few items are good. Not too good not too bad.
Get standard Indian food. Food is ok.
Very friendly owner from India, come back here all the time
Awesome lunch buffet with student discounts!
Buffet is great and so is the price
Good food
Reliable for good food and quick service
Good food for a fair price!
To the business great spot all about the food and great food at that
Bad taste... not an real tanjore or Indian food
Everything just matched the vibe
Quite good. Often not busy -dont let that fool you.
Delicious Indian buffet for lunch.
Try their momos ❤️❤️
Lunch buffet was absolutely amazing
Food was tasty!
Good Indian food in Harvard Square
Lunch buffet is very good
