This is the best place to dance in Boston/Cambridge. Thursdays are wonderful and the crowd and staff are always welcoming and polite. Dont waste your time anywhere else.
Middlesex needs to get a clue on Thursday nights. Stop bringing in these lo-fi, slow tempo, UNINSPIRING type DJ’s. DJ’s that can’t read a room or switch up from their game plan depending on what the room looks like. If you see 1 person leaving every 2 minutes consider switching it up. Secondly, no one goes out on a Thursday night to be lulled to sleep. We have our beds. No one cares about the caliber of the DJ or how many followers they have. CAN THEY BRING THE ENERGY?? CAN THEY KEEP PEOPLE DANCING ON THE FLOOR. I stopped entertaining middlesex a while ago and tonight was a true reminder why. Sheesh.
Vibe was average. DJ doesn’t know what he’s playing. Poor track selection. Could have been better. Spoiled our night.
Another awesome night! Bartenders & staff were fantastic as usual!I dont know how the staff can stay so calm & collected with all the grumpy people from like 3 days ago (Saturday).I heard Harvard lost against Yale so that could explain why students were so grumpy and complaining.DJ had a killer set!
If you are looking for a place where you can have a legit good time this is it. You arent going to get bottle girls with sparklers dancing around in almost nothing, but you will get a great place to dance and hang out. There is an escalating cover that starts at $10, and goes up to $20 as the night goes on. Its a small place so have realistic expectations. The Djs are top notch, the bar staff friendly, and hot!! What more can I say about this place, drop in and have fun...
Ive been going there for over 15 years, and have met really cool people over the years. This rating is about the totality of my experiences rather than my most recent ones. I love that its a mature crowd. The last couple of times Ive gone, the DJs have lacked feel. They cut songs off way too quickly and dont have a sense of what the audience is feeling. In general, I love that the music isnt poppy. You gotta be into old school hip hop/r&b and 70s soul to dig this spot.
If you like dancing, youll have a great time, and if you dont like dancing, why did you go? The DJ played a solid mix that kept all my friends with a 15 year age range happy, the drinks were tasty and the vibes were solid. Getting a drink is like getting a drink at any crowded place; if you engage with the bartender, it will happen a lot faster (we never waited more than a few minutes on a busy Saturday night). The crowd was extremely diverse by Boston/Cambridge standards. When we arrived at 9:30, it was basically full inside and there was no line. The coat check was clutch. My phone tells me I danced 3 miles in about 3 hours. The perfect place to go dancing when youre looking for house party vibes if any of your friends had a house this big.
Truly dumbfounded how they justify a $15 cover to white guy shuffle in a 20x20 single room with some guy in a wife-beater during what seemed to be DJ open mic night. Bartender was nice though.
This bar is absolutely terrible - do not go!! The music is really bad, and certain of the bartenders are extremely rude and take people’s credit cards, aren’t paying attention to the charges, give them to the wrong people and then disclaim responsibility. They also have no manager present, and the person “filling in” for the manager, Chris Young, was dishonest about the bar’s procedures for this type of credit card fraud (despite being an “accountant” and an utter lack of professionalism). There are so many better places to go that won’t rip you off!
I got kicked out from that place because I confronted the security guy that was keep banging and trying to open the bathroom door while i was in there( i was in there literally 2 min) it did not happen just with me. I told him that women take longer to pee than men but he said that it is not true. Probably he is a girl undercover and he knows all about that.Probably he feels empowered when he does that. Very very very rude!
Middlesex is a great spot for great music of all types (depending on the night), great peopple wiht good vibes. If you are looking for an attitude free great place ot dance, drink, and have a good time then this is the place. The staff is solid and could not be nicer. The bartenders are legit and hot!
So went there with a large group on Friday night around 10:30, it wasnt crowded so there was plenty of space to dance. The bar tenders are quick with taking your order and the bathrooms are very clean. The dj played an awesome mix of afro beats, hip hop, reggaeton and some old school hits. The place gets more filled up closer to midnight. $10 entry fee. Will definitely be back on account of the great music.
Went there on Friday night at 10:30 and forced to wait for 30mins with no reason because there were enough space inside. I expect good hiphop music but they never play that. All the way EDM or even some wired music. You also must join long Q for rest room. Just packed with young students who has no clue about music.
If you’re a young person don’t go here. I’m 23 and the average age in this bar was at least 35, it was filled with some of the weirdest and creepiest people i’ve ever seen in my life. Worse than anywhere else. We all wanted to go somewhere else within 5 minutes. Also a super overpriced cover charge. It’s worth maybe $5 but they charged $20. Music was 3/10- they literally played the Rugrats theme song. If you have to use the bathroom, the line will take minimum 15 minutes because it’s a single stall. For the same price, just go to an actual club and have more fun. The venue is boring- it’s just a big square room. The fact the owner replies to the 1 star comments and gets all trashy and defensive is all you need to know lol
If you wanna go dancing and not be around a ton of people this is your spot. The venue just has a dance floor and a bar, so it is pretty small. This is a good spot for a lowkey night out with friends. The music has been pretty good every time I have been there.
Minneapolis has a horrendous bar scene so I was excited to try out bars and clubs in a new state. Somehow, this was worse. There were 4 DJs and somehow the music got unplugged. Which I guess was fine because I didn’t hear 1 good song the entire time I was there.
Last Saturday night was my first time here and I had a blast! The DJ was on point that night! Typical drink prices and although its still not a huge dancing space, its definitely still a good time! May want to get there a little early as the line can get pretty long. Also, lines for the bathroom can get a little crazy but, that wont stop me from going back and shaking a little tailfeather!
This place is good on both Friday and Saturday nights. The dj provides a good mix of new hits and old school. The crowd is very young, maybe due to its proximity to the Universities. They do not have a big variety of drinks though. They have their own cocktails mix which is not too bad.
Drinks are overpriced. Th DJ did an okay job at best, didnt seem to know what songs the audience liked. Nonetheless, the place offers a great dance floor thats big enough to accommodate the huge crowd.
It was a nice lounge, I felt that the area they had was small compared to the crowd they had. They had people waiting outside to get inside so that is always a good thing. We got in early when there were less people so we did not have to wait for the line. The bartenders made sure that it had enough alcohol in cocktails and other drinks unlike other places where they put no alcohol. I recommend this place.
Iconic venue for electronic music
Not exactly upscale, but if you dont mind a tight squeeze, this is a fun place to just go and dance with some friends. Late nights its set up mostly as big open space to encourage dancing, and there is limited space for sitting down or putting your stuff (no coat check of course, just on the seats). So dont bring a huge coat/purse/etc unless you want to be worrying about it all night.
I went for 90’s night on 1/20/24 and it was bomb! Such a great vibe!
As far as nightlife, if youre not into the big club scene with overpriced cover charge, then Middlesex is the place. Ive been coming here for many years, although the crowd has gotten smaller throughout my experiences probably because of competing clubs. It gets more crowded closer to midnight, so theres balance of just hanging with your friends in earlier hours and the dance vibe towards midnight. The place is super simple so its great for casual night out
Came here for drinks on a Friday night. The always have new DJs so cover is about $10 and the line gets pretty long so come early if you want to avoid that. Given it was the end of the year and most of the area students are likely gone there was no line but the place filled up by 11ish. The music was a good mix of throwbacks, hip hop, r&b, and top 40. They have a coat check but most people just leave their coats laying around the edges of the room. The drinks are well made and run about $8-10 with a fairly attentive bar staff.
Horrible experience. Rude af service. Not safe for women by themselves—but the bouncers are good folks. Drinks are weak.
Enough space to dance and sit around when there is not a lot of people but their is not a single HIPHOP song being played. Mostly what they play is oldschool random songs. When you are a club and you are promoting to be playing the best songs and having the best DJ, then you would want to stand up to your pronounced statement. Unless you are on drugs I am sure no one would dance to that type of music. Play hit songs and entertain the crowd that is paying to get in the club to have fun on days off. Any way I got in I played the cover got a drink; finished my drink and left to another club, total disappointment.
Greatest of all time. No question.
Its basically just a dance floor w a bar, so if your not there to do either of those things then oh well! Our group had fun.Wish the DJ would have let some of the old school jams play longer than 30 seconds a piece, but mix was good.
Middlesex is a pretty solid club in the Cambridge area. Fridays or Saturdays are a fun time, but the crowd and music can vary a bit. Sometimes theres a line around the corner at 11:30, and sometimes you can walk right in at midnight. The music is generally pop/hip hop - stuff that people know. Bathroom line is usually long, but you can just dance through the wait.
Solid dance events (I.e. Make It New) and good bar bites but the setup for these events and bathroom situation are atrocious. Put the DJ booth in the opposite corner and completely redo the bathrooms to increase capacity and then this might make for a fantastic venue. Sound system is solid and the crowd can get really weird.
It is a mature crowd and a decent vibe but the Dj needs to play more reggae.
Actually very nice place to go and dance out yourself. Sometimes very crowded, sometimes empty. Drinks and service is fine. And acoustics are good too. This place is designed to dance in.
Awesome place for a night out. Staff couldn’t be more friendly if they tried :). The steak and fries was delicious and so was everything else we ordered. Highly recommended it!
I love the variety of events offered at this venue. The playlists are very good for the weekend dance parties. The bartenders make really delicious drink combinations. The cover is cheap.
Expensive cover early in the evening. Lame DJ who wasnt quite on top of things; uncommitted to his meh streetwear and his unsatisfied Thursday night crowd. Super odd speaker setup. In total, a very mediocre place thats not bad... but not good.
Hands down, the best dance club in central square. its just 1 large, dark room, where the dj spins all sorts of music depending on the night. check out thursday nights for some deep house sounds. on weekends they artificially inflate the line, so get there early or be prepared to wait until 12:30 to get inside.
Great vibes, dope music. Went on a Saturday and they played a mix of ragaetron, dancehall and hip hop. Dress code isnt strict either. Overall great time.
Awesome sound system, legit DJ, poppin dancefloor, and good looking crowd. But drinks are expensive and on saturday night the line for the bathroom is as long as the line to get in. Its probably faster to run over the the Asgard and come back. Also, watch out the sketchy dudes trying steal your wallet, or your girlfriend.
This place is smaller than a New York apartment, and why are the bouncers chilling outside with their gang of friends. Ironic how they all seem to disappear when police arrived. Find a better club in the Cambridge or Boston area.
Great atmosphere, dj had some bad transitions but overall good taste in music, great energy from the crowd and reasonably priced.
Went here for a private event and paid my bar tab with my card and left a cash tip of $7.00 on a $38.00 bill and wrote cash in on the tip line but they still added gratuity to my card of $4.00. I wasnt going to call and complain about $4.00 but I find it ridiculous that someone would do that.
I came here one evening and coat-checked an expensive coat. When I went back with my ticket to claim it, the coat was gone! They did very little to help me find it and did not compensate me one dime. Really recommend you go elsewhere on your weekend evenings.
The best place in Cambridge to dance the night away! If you want house party vibes, this is the spot! 💃 hot bartender also
There are few places in Cambridge/the Boston area that let you have a club night without an astronomical cover. Usually cover is around $10 and its cheaper to drink nextdoor. Its the closest atmosphere to southern European clubs in Cambridge
Make it New Thursdays is THE best night in the Boston area. Cant miss. If you like house or techno and are in Boston there is no other place better than Middlesex on Thursdays.
20$ cover and no requests or shakira….right….right…
Mediocre. The drinks were meh. DJ was ok. Space is very uninteresting and pretty small. Cover was $10 which is definitely not worth it for the size.
One of my favorite clubs in Boston! Good music and dancing. Also, kind staff. Pretty great!
Just not impressed. They should do something else with the set up. Seating is strange. Large bathroom lines infront of the DJ booth. Food was good though.
I love the minimalist atmosphere of this place. If youre going here club at night, make sure you get there by 10:00. Any later and you risk standing in some very long lines.
The music and vibes are great (especially for Thursdays), but they put the bathroom line directly in front of the DJ booth! Its insane!!!
Nice dance room. Nothin fancy just dance with no judgement. Good sound system. Great friendly staff.
This places varies A LOT depending on which night you go. For EDM on Thursdays, its always a good choice. Other nights, it can be a ride.
Went here for dancing, it was such a great night. Amazing music and fun lighting!
Great place for dancing and hanging out with friends. Theres a DJ playing a variety of music too.
Good play list but when requested a song the dj would not play it even though he said he would. Drink are very expensive!
I love the music, spacious dance floor, and they don’t skimp on your drinks!
Love Love the food selection. Last time I was there got an amazing cocktail and nachos and a quesadia . The nachos were to die for!!! the quesadia was really good too!
Very straightforward establishment, drink and dance. Really picks up around 11:30-12:00.
They have good DJs come through every so often.
DJ needs to listen to his audience. Dull as it gets.
Best house and techno DJs in the world every Thursday for a party called Keep On.
+great DJs+fast bar service+huge dance floor with lively crowd
Best vibes youll find !!
Comfortable atmosphere for any age. Hip hop & r&b.
Literally the best place to dance on the weekends. One of my favorites.
Great Saturday night spot with well priced drinks and cheap cover
Door guy was obnoxious but once inside we had a chill time and the DJ was awesome.
Skip this club, the bouncers record you and when an individual asked for his debit card he started getting recorded without consent.
Good crowd, good music, great staff....always a good time
Sometimes the music is hit or miss. But we usually have a good time.
If you can get in, the music is great and fun vibe here
Fun place for drinks an dancing. Good dance and R&B music.✌
Small place no re entry underwhelming not worth it to go
Three words... MAKE IT NEW !!! I will always love this place because of its amazing Thursday nights.
Great local spot, dance floor. Always fun
Good luck, seen the entire story and video posted on Reddit. This club is a DUB.
Went for HouseBoi...great staff/drinks, awesome crowd...
Cool people and music. Too small and crowded for an overpriced cover.
Didnt enjoy the ambience at all. Music was pretty disappointing as well.
Best Dee Jays and great vibe . I love the place
DJ Kon is on another level. Awesome venue.
Great sound and great ambience. Every single time!!
Thursday night is one of the greatest club nights in the world
Bare bones but good music and fun for dancing
Hip hop music, young mix of people, cheap drinks. What else do you want?
Awful layout, Bicep was 5 stars though
Small space, could have better seating
Great DJs. Come here to dance.
There is a bald bartender who looks like an arab, who is very Disrespectful.
Decent place to be at 10:30!
Best place in cambridge to dance on Thursdays
The smoked old-fashioned was really good
Slowing down entry when you have a discounted price before a specific time is Unprofessional
Very long wait, but a very good place
Venue is awesome, the dj was decent
Best club in the Boston area on Thrusdays only
Packs with sweaty dancing college kids. If thats what youre looking for, it does the trick, I guess.
Music is good. Prices are decent.
Good music on Thursday night
Maybe the clubbiest place in Cambridge. Fine if youre into that.
Great place to go have fun, and have fun😃!!!
The offer a burlesque night which is kick-ass.
Its only one room, not super interesting
This place is nice but there are better places
Ride bartenders the place is just not worth it
No light, like dancing in the cave.
Huge fan of the Thursday night events.
Best DJs in boston
Great place to go out at night
Rude bartenders, long queue and boring music
Best bartenders ever!

Weekly Techno things

Good times!
Super
House music!!
Over hyped
Absolute trash
Okay drinks
Middlesex is a fun place to dance, but my friend was having a panic attack outside and the bouncer wouldnt let me bring her ice water, after we paid cover charge, no matter how much I insisted that it was only water. he told me that if my friend was actually panicking then she could go inside and get her own water, which is obviously not feasible if youre having a panic attack. I ended up having to scoop ice out of the cup and leave the water with him. would not go back if youre a woman who wants to feel safe with the staff. a bouncer also yelled at us for being in the bathroom for too long
Intimate venue for unh-tiss, unh-tiss, unh-tiss.
Hello Sir
