If you’ve come to Clarksdale in search of looking The Blues, then you gotta find your way to Red’s. Backed by the river and fronted by the grave, this timeless venue transcends the present, connecting any who enter with a Delta Blues tradition in the Land of Cotton that’s as rich as soil itself.Orlando, Ashley, and the other members of the Red’s team are not just great hosts, but stewards of a juke joint tradition that stretches back here over a century. And the BBQ (Fridays, Saturdays) is damn good, too.Don’t miss it!A++
Amazing place. Ok, the interior is old and basically falling down, but what you get is the most authentic blues club imaginable. We attended for my wife’s 60th Birthday and had the ‘best birthday ever’. Big ‘A’ was playing with his band and boy, can they play. Looking forward to seeing them in the UK next year some time.Forget the aesthetics of the place (actually don’t, take it in….they make the place so much more than any sterile, commercialised venue could hope for). The patrons, clientele and band were all fabulously welcoming and friendly.Big shout out to Big ‘A’ for playing a dedicated song for my wife.
Had so much fun last night that Im going back again tonight! Loved how the band kidded with each other, the servers & folks they recognized in the audience. And of course good music too!
Great place. We came for Lucious Spiller Band and it was unforgettable experience.
I wish they had a few more comfort dishes Cashew chicken or Vietnamese spring rolls. Beef and green beans.
The best time Ive had in years. I grew up in Clarksdale but I was to young to know anything about Reds. We had an amazing time. We danced with Ellis and Luscious Spiller was the highlight of the night.
Iconic blues bar in cdale. Cheap beer and real people trying to make a living playing the blues as used to be.
The place is decaying. Get past that and immerse yourself in experiencing real blues in the home of delta blues. It’s true that most of the audience for our night with Lucious Spiller were people like us, travellers exploring the rich heritage and difficult recent history of the region. But Reds represented a window into a world that I had only read about before, and an experience that certainly enriched our trip down the Delta.
The real deal juke joint. Great Blues music!
Filthy, dirty, smelly and filled with garbageMusic was unremarkable, chairs were broken , seat cushion torn, ripped and filthy , tables sticky , garbage around the bar - looked like an episode of the HOARDERS. - Health department should shut it down . Smell was horrible - Bathrooms indescribable
There was a fabulous guitarist with a combo. His name was Anthony Big A Sherrod, and he could really play. This is an intimate setting where you are 10 ft from the musicians. People are dancing, and there were both locals and tourists from the US and international visitors. We were there in 2015, and the cover charge was $7. Not to be missed.
Had one more time of my life at Reds. Big T and The Family Band were playing with a guest appearance from Ghalia Volt. They rocked the house down, I didnt want to leave at closing time. Ellis, the doorman, is quite a dancer :) Everyone was so nice and friendly, cant wait to go back!
The most authentic blues joint you will ever find. The people and the music are top notch. If you love the blues, you gotta go to reds
Best blues club experience Ive ever had!!!!!!!! A true Mississippi juke joint.
This place is a legit juke joint and definitely worth the visit when youre in Clarksdale. A wonderfully full calendar of local and visiting artists, many of whom stop in and will play a few tunes with visiting bands (Lucius Spiller joined in with Mark Muleman Massey when we were there - and Mark and his amazing band carried me when I was allowed to join in on the drums for a few songs). Beer available at the bar (thanks Charles!). Cover charge depends on whos playing.
So, you have the touristy blues destinations, and then you have the authentic real deal jukes. Reds is the latter. Food, beer, blues. That simple. Go in and act responsibly and have a fine time. Keep a lookout for upcoming events. They bring in more of the authentic blues performers than the other venues.
Incredibly cool live blues space. As real a juke joint as Ive ever experienced. Awesome music, great people, totally welcoming. All-around awesome!!
The lady taking admission was sitting with her back to the door and playing on her phone when I entered. So I didnt know she was taking admission. When I walked past her she immediately grabbed me by the arm and spun me around like I was in 5th grade. I immediately left and Ill never go back. That door lady needs to learn some proper etiquette of how to get someones attention, and work on not being so rude and unattended.
This is one of the most authentic juke joint experience youll ever have. If you love blues, you gotta go to Reds. Say Hi to Charles, the bartender - what a teddy bear!
Was down at Reds a couple of years ago, made the journey just to be in a real, true, juke joint. Im a blues harp player from New Zealand and this was my pilgrimage,I was going there to listen, and maybe learn a little,I did,and also got to play with Bud Welch one night and a 1 hour set the next night with The Big A. I was humbled by their generosity. Quite frankly, this was my life time experience, every thing else doesnt quite measure up. If youre in the delta,go see Red!
This juke joint is a special place. It is historic and current at the same time. The music and enjoyment that happens here has happened many times before and will happen many times in the future. It is the antithesis of popular music and yet the base of popular music. A culture all its own, frequented by all walks of life. Cold beer, good barbecue and blues music are on the menu at Reds. Also, introduce yourself to Red Paden, proprietor extraordinaire. An experience required for street cred in most blues bars world wide.
Change the e to a u and the s to an e.We had paid our cover charge plus threw money in the bucket first go-round plus bought beer.Band took a forever break (Big T and Family was a good band).Dark and RED neon in there so you cannot see all the things on the wall.2nd go-round of the bucket, we passed. Well, we got the royal treatment from Red.He came and sat right in front of us and stared. I never looked directly at him, but I could sensethat he was not pleased. I whispered to my friend for us to go, not really knowing what was up, but knew it had to do with the tip-bucket. I got up and went on out, thinking my friend was following. Finally when he came out he said that Red had jumped him about videoing. Everyone had seen us doing this almost as soon as we walked in. Not buying it. Just plain RUDE.
Having read much about juke joints, and Reds in particular, as well as having purchased the documentary We Juke Up in Here DVD, we had a good idea of what Reds was all about. If you find yourself drawn to the Mississippi Delta and are looking for authentic live blues performed in an intimate setting, (which happens to be one of the best ways to experience any performance) then look no further than Reds! At first it is like walking into any small town local bar/club as an outsider, while some may be a little hesitant, relax and stroll on in. Just observe Reds one important cardinal rule: shoot no video. Observe that, behave yourself, buy a beer, have a chat with Red, soak in the atmosphere, relax, buy another beer, chat some more with Red, laugh, start to have a good time, buy another beer, laugh some more, and get in the mood for some good music. Kick back and enjoy the up close performance, drink beer, and enjoy something very unique. We stayed till the band finished (Lucious Spiller) and left out of there around 2am. And remember: Its hip to tip! Thanked Red, the band and were on our way having had an experience of a lifetime. Reds Is What It Is.....the Best!
Truly iconic. Do not miss this original juke joint when you visit Clarksdale.
Want real authentic Delta Blues…. RUN HERE!!!! But don’t tell everyone…. That’s why it’s the best!!! Skip all the others!!!!
Great band, great venue, Charles/bartender was nice, and Red was very accommodating. Thank you Red for helping to keep the Blues alive.
We arrived 2 songs before the end of the set and got kicked out just as we walked in from the dude who was playing because we tipped him our last 2$ and not 7$ each(!). He literally stopped the show. Thats not how tips work, especially when youre about to finish the set!
Red’s is the real deal for the blues. If you’re in the area or planning a trip to see the blues up close and personal, get on down to Red’s ASAP. Bring cash, tip the band, and the bartender!
They only have a couple of brands of beer. A very intimate atmosphere and good music. If you are in Clarksdale a fun place to drop in.
Funky grungy beautiful dirty and awesome real juke joint for some real music and blues!!
WONDERFUL music. But the cleaning and maintenance crew must have died off 5 yrs ago. An experience you will long remember, I know I will. I would go again.
We are visiting Clarksdale on our “Blues Trail” trip from New Orleans to Memphis. This was a wonderful place to hear Big T!
Absolutely amazing place! Heard fantastic blues for 3 hours with stories, surprise guests and just really good blues. Can STRONGLY recommend!

But we are open this week of Jjf
This place couldnt have passed Code Inspection!! This had to have been an abandoned building they just opened up and charge people $10 to get in and the bathroom is worse than an Out House!! NASTYYY!!! OMG!!
The real deal for blues lovers
Absolutely the coolest blues/juke joint anywhere. The whos who of blues have all played here and many more wish they could
Good blues. No frills. They have a shirt that says everything you need to know: It is what it is.....Reds.
Stopped here many moons ago en route to Mardi Gras. One of a kind experience.

Great vibe. Friendly. Enjoyed a great evening here!
Authentic, soulful music. A must for anyone with a passion for hearing the roots of rock and roll.

One of the best places to listen to blues without a doubt, super authentic! If you go you will enjoy it a lot, but above all, be careful because there are many mosquitoes in there. One night I had about 50 bites on my legs. But it was worth the visit 😅
Reception more than limited. Dirty place...and no choice of drinks...luckily the music was good
Lets see it looks like a club from the outside, its hard to get in but when you pass the door youre left ohhh how beautiful
Would love to come back to Clarksdale anytime 🌞🎶🎸🍺🎼
